If You Suffer From Foot, Knee, or Hip Pain, Here Are 6 Exercises to Kill It. Between 15% and 25% of people in the US suffer from knee pain, which is the second largest cause of chronic pain. But even without it, we all suffer from minor injuries and tiredness from time to time. Here are some tips on how to use physical therapy to possibly make you feel better. Health is Wealth is always on guard for helping you stay healthy and pain-free. That’s why we want you to check out these six simple exercises to help you with knee, foot and hip pain. SUMMARY Heel Raises To start off, grab a chair and stand behind it. Raise one of your legs. Slowly raise the heel of your other leg until you’re standing on your toes. Slowly put the heel back on the floor. Repeat this exercise 10-15 times on each leg. This will strengthen your ankles and work on the muscles around the knee. Toe walking To work on weak ankles you should do the following: Sitting down or standing up, raise one leg. Slowly rotate the foot of that leg in a circular motion. Repeat this 10 times in an inward circle and 10 times in outward circles for each leg. Resistance training For this next exercise, you’ll need a resistance band. Fix the band around the couch leg or any other standing piece of furniture. Put one of your legs under the other, slightly bent at the knee. Grab onto a resistance band with the foot of the leg on top. Slowly pull the band, bending your foot toward your head. Repeat this 10-15 times on each leg. This incorporates the work of calf muscles and your inner and outer thigh muscles. Toe games To exercise your toes on a daily basis you can play a game called “grabbies”. Curl your toes on their own. Put a towel on the floor and grab onto it with your toes. Put small pebbles on the ground and try to put them in a basket using just your feet. Walking on balls To relax and train the balls of your feet: Find a tennis ball or a ball of a similar diameter. Sit on a chair. Place your foot on the ball and step on it. Slowly push the ball with your foot toward the toes and then backward. Enjoy the massage! Acupressure and foot massage are widely used around the world. If after a long day you have sore feet, place your two thumbs on the spots in the picture (between toes 1 and 2, 4 and 5; about 1 cm or half an inch deep) and gently massage it for up to 15 minutes for easy and quick relaxation. 9 Effective Ways to Fix Ingrown Toenails An ingrown toenail is a common problem and happens when the side edge of a toenail grows into the skin tissue around it. According to statistics, 18% of US adults have experienced it at least once in their lives. It’s important to treat ingrown toenails as soon as they start in order to prevent infection and to keep it from getting worse. Health is Wealth has gathered the most common and proven remedies against ingrown toenails. Remember, to be forewarned is to be forearmed. SUMMARY Prepare a tub with Epsom salt. Soaking your feet in warm water with Epsom salt will help you to reduce any soreness. Also, the nail will get softer and easier to cut afterward. Mix 2 tbsp of Epsom salt in warm water in a foot tub. Hold your feet there for 15-20 minutes. Try to repeat the procedure about 3 times a day for a better result. Use apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar is known for its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory qualities. It’ll help to prevent infection and relieve the swollen skin. Soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar. Cover the toe with a bandage and keep it like this for a couple hours. Dry the area thoroughly afterward. Make turmeric paste. Turmeric paste has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving qualities, so it will reduce the swelling and the pain from the ingrown toenail. Mix 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder with 1/2 tbsp of mustard oil. Cover the affected toe with the paste and apply a bandage over it. Hold it for about an hour. Repeat the procedure 2-3 times daily. Apply lemon juice and honey. Lemon and honey have a great antimicrobial effect on the skin. They’ll fight the possible infection in the affected toe. Apply a drop of lemon juice and a little bit of honey right onto the toe. Cover the toe with a bandage and leave it overnight. Repeat the procedure every evening until the toe gets better. Keep the nail raised with a cotton wedge. In order to keep your toenail slightly raised, place a small cotton wedge under it. Carefully lift the affected part of your nail with tweezers. Place a small piece of cotton between the toenail and the skin. Try to change the cotton wedge often, especially after soaking in a foot tub. Lift the nail with dental floss. This works better right after soaking in a foot tub, causing the skin and nail to get softer. Carefully lift the edge of the ingrown toenail with a piece of clean, waxed dental floss. Don’t dig too much into your toenail. Repeat the procedure each time after soaking your foot. Trim your toenails correctly. In order to prevent ingrown toenails from occurring again, learn how to trim your nails correctly. Always start trimming at the edges, not at the middle part. The smoother the edge, the lesser the chance of getting an ingrown toenail. Avoid sharp edges. Don’t cut them too short, as they may dig into your skin as they keep growing. Trim your toenails once every 2-3 weeks. Wear comfortable shoes. Choose open-toed sandals and sensible footwear in order to provide extra room for your toes. An ideal variant would be those made of soft fabrics that allow your skin “to breathe” while leaving room for your toes. Actually, tight and uncomfortable shoes are one of the reasons toenails might start growing into the skin in the first place. High heels aren’t an option either, as they add pressure to the toes. The dorsal wrist ganglion is the most frequently seen (60%-70% of all ganglion cysts) followed by volar wrist ganglions and cysts of the flexor and extensor tendon sheaths. Ganglion cysts of all types are more common in women than in men by a ratio of 3-to-1 and have been reported in children. Factors that may increase your risk of ganglion cysts include: 1. Your sex and age. Ganglion cysts can develop in anyone, but they most commonly occur in women between the ages of 20 and 40. 2. Osteoarthritis. People who have wear-and-tear arthritis in the finger joints closest to their fingernails are at higher risk of developing ganglion cysts near those joints. 3. Joint or tendon injury. You should also avoid drinking coffee, black tea, alcohol, and carbonated beverages because they can put more stress on your bladder. Train your bladder. Schedule bathroom breaks. To prevent incontinence, try to determine how often you go to the bathroom by keeping a voiding diary. Then add about 15 minutes to that time (for example, if you use the toilet every hour, schedule bathroom visits at every hour and 15 minutes). Go to the bathroom at each scheduled visit even if you don’t actually need to pee. Delay urination. You can address your overactive bladder by extending the period of time between your trips to the bathroom. Begin with small delays (about 30 minutes) and gradually work your way up to urinating every 3-4 hours. Practice double voiding. Double voiding is the technique of urinating twice in a short period of time. Here’s the most effective way to do it: Once you’ve finished urinating, wait for 20-30 seconds. After that, lean forward slightly and try to urinate again. Control your weight. Being overweight can aggravate bladder problems and cause stress incontinence. If you develop stress incontinence, your bladder leaks small amounts of urine when you’re physically active or when you cough or sneeze. Losing weight can help you relieve excess pressure on your bladder and surrounding muscles. Get acupuncture. Some studies show that acupuncture stimulation applied to the lumbosacral (lower back) region can help you increase bladder control and treat frequent urination by releasing stress and tension in the area. Strengthen your muscles. In order to control urination, you can strengthen the muscles of your bladder. First, you’ll need to identify those muscles by stopping the flow of urine midstream. Once you feel your pelvic floor muscles, you can start training them by doing the following exercises with an empty bladder for at least 6-8 weeks. Inhale, tighten your pelvic floor muscles, and extend your right arm beyond your head and right leg forward. Release your pelvic floor, exhale, and draw your arm and leg back to the initial position. Warming up the muscles Just like before any other workout, you’ll want to warm up your facial muscles. For this purpose, move your lower jaw forward and backward and then side to side. All movements should be performed slowly and smoothly without sudden jerks. Repeat the exercise 8-10 times. The scoop Open your mouth, and roll your bottom lip over your lower teeth. Imagine that you need to scoop water with your lower jaw. Move your head down in a scooping motion, and close your mouth while lifting your head. While performing this exercise make sure that the corners of your lips are completely relaxed. Repeat 5-7 times. Touch your nose A double chin is also associated with weakness of the hyoid muscles. That is why they also need to be strengthened. Stick out your tongue as far as possible, and try to reach your nose with the tip of your tongue. Keep your lips relaxed. Repeat 5 times. The perfect oval face If you want to return the shape of your face to a younger look and pull your cheeks up, do the following exercise: turn your head to the left, and pull your lower jaw forward, straining the muscles of your neck. You should feel the muscles on the left of your neck stretching. Then turn your head to the right and do the same movement. Repeat 5 times on each side. Hold the position for 5 to 8 seconds and release. Repeat 5 times. Resistance For this exercise, you need to make two fists and place them directly under your chin. Then begin to move your lower jaw slightly down on your fists, and strain your muscles while overcoming the resistance. The pressing force should gradually increase. When you reach maximum resistance, hold for 3 seconds. Then relax, and repeat the exercise 5-7 times. Smile Clench your teeth with your mouth closed, and try to stretch the corners of your lips as wide as possible. Now push your tongue against your hard palate, gradually increasing the pressing force. If you feel a strong tension in your chin muscles, then you have performed the exercise correctly. Hold this feeling of tension for 5 seconds, and then relax for 3 seconds. Repeat 5-8 times. Puffy cheeks Inhale deeply with your mouth, and fill it with air. Close your mouth, and puff up your cheeks. Now press your palms on your cheeks so that you feel tension in your muscles. Hold for 3-5 seconds, then release the air and relax. Other research indicates that getting too little or too much sleep may be tied to increased Alzheimer’s disease risk factors and a large Spanish study found that long sleepers may be at increased risk of developing dementia. Oversleeping is considered a potential symptom of depression. While many people with depression report insomnia, about 15% tend to oversleep. Varicosis, Willebrand’s, thrombocytopenia or leukemia are often caused by problems with blood circulation. Don’t postpone a visit to the doctor, especially if you’ve noticed other worrying symptoms: pain and swollen legs, bleeding gums, small capillary spots on the body, or nosebleeds. Vitamins, vitamins! We make sure that our kids get enough of them but we often forget about ourselves. Some unexplained bruises can be a signal that the body lacks the necessary elements. For example, B12 takes part in blood production, vitamin K is responsible for coagulation, and vitamin C plays a vital role in the creation of new tissue. Without it, vessels become very fragile. Another very important vitamin is P. Without it, the production of collagen is impossible, so the vessels become thin which leads to the worsening of the state of the skin. Iron balance is very important for the body. When there is a lack of it or too much of it, capillaries get worse. But don’t rush to buy vitamins — get yourself checked for vitamin deficiency first and improve your diet. The source of vitamin P is fresh green tea, apples, pumpkin, and garlic. Vitamin K can be found in bananas, eggs, nuts, and fatty fish. B12 can be found in liver, fish, cheese, and lettuce. While age is usually thought of as just the number of years you’ve been alive, people with identical ages often look – and seem – very different. In 2015, scientists at King’s College London published research suggesting that measuring the activity of around 150 specific genes gives a measure of ‘biological age’ linked more strongly to longevity than mere chronology. But genetic activity is only one factor differentiating biological and chronological age. Exercise, diet and weight can also make a big difference. This has led to various questionnaires which can give clues about your current ‘real’ age, and offer advice on what you can do about it. When using these quizzes, do bear in mind that some of the measures are still controversial. Test your strength. How strong are you? In general, people gain muscle up to the age of about 30. Afterwards, however, we start to slowly lose muscle mass and, hence, physical strength. People over 30 who are inactive can lose as much as 3% to 5% of their muscle mass per decade, and even the physically active lose some. This loss of muscle mass – called sarcopenia – means a loss of strength and mobility and, in the elderly, can increase the risk of frailty, falls, and bone fractures. Test your own strength. Do as many modified push-ups (on your knees) as you can without stopping, keeping your body in a straight line and lowering your chest within four inches of the floor. Keep going until you can do no more. Like flexibility, more strength is better. If you were able to do a high number of push-ups, you probably have a good deal of muscle mass and physical endurance. Add 1 if you did less than 10 push-ups. Neither add nor subtract for 10-19. Subtract 1 if you did reached twenty push-ups. Subtract two for more than 30.
