Most people don't know that when your sympathetic nervous system is activated (your adrenal glands) your blood is diverted away from your core where your digestive system resides. This causes food to sit and rot and causes GERD, indigestion, and heartburn. By activating the parasympathetic nervous system blood will flow back to the center of the body where it can digest food and the symptoms of heartburn, GERD and indigestion can be avoided.
