According to WHO or World Health Organization more than 30% Indians consume alcohol on regular basis and an average Indian consumes around 4.3 litres of alcohol yearly. 2.Tobacco:Tobacco is a product prepared from the nicotine-rich leaves of the tobacco plant by curing them. Tobacco can be taken in many ways but chewing, snuffing, smoking are some the common ways it is taken. According to the World Health Organization or WHO, India is home to 12% of the world's smokers. Approximately 900,000 people die every year in India due to smoking as of 2009. 3.Cannabis or Marijuana: Cannabis is also known as marijuana among other names, is a psychoactive drug from the Cannabis plant intended for medical or recreational use. Cannabis in India has been used since as early as 2000 BCE. All forms of cannabis are currently illegal in India, with some limited allowances made for some traditional preparations. It is commonly smoked rolling joints but can also be consumed in form of charas, ganja and bhaang. 4.Heroin or Opium:Opium is the dried latex obtained from the opium poppy. Opium latex contains approximately 12 percent of the analgesic alkaloid morphine, which is processed chemically to produce heroin and other synthetic opioids for medicinal use and for illegal drug trade. Heroin or Brown Sugar is one of the most consumed drug in India. 5.Hasish: Hashish is a drug made from cannabis. While herbal cannabis is referred to as Marijuana, hashish is cannabis resin.It is consumed by smoking, typically in a pipe or bong.As pure hashish will not burn if rolled alone in a joint, it is typically mixed with tobacco or another type of herb for this method of consumption. 6.Prescription Drugs: Prescription drug abuse one of the most popular drug usage in India. Drug abusers usually get addicted to medications. Painkillers containing certain chemicals , such as Vicodin. Pharmaceutical preparations containing narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances are some the other drug abuse can be seen in India. 7.Methamphetamine : Methamphetamine not popular as others but due to its increasing use is still quite popular in India.
