Structural Genomics Consortium at UNC

01:31
Science has cracked the sequence of the human genome, but translating that knowledge into medicine has been painfully slow. New treatments are desperately needed for a wide range of diseases from cancer and neurological disorders to devastating parasitic diseases like malaria. Targeting the human kinome, we will create a Chemogenomic Index—showing thousands of drug molecules that block the activity of proteins involved in many diseases—and distribute our results freely to scientists around the world. By using these drug molecules to connect hundreds of kinases with specific diseases, we can accelerate the discovery of new treatments at a rate never before achieved. For the first time, our generation will be equipped to pursue drug treatments for human diseases that have been overlooked or hidden in the genome.
