How to Lucid Dream

Watch more Dreams & Dream Interpretation videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/35924-How-to-Lucid-Dream Learning how to lucid dream—that is, to be aware during your dreams that you are, indeed, dreaming—will allow you to live out fantasies, stop nightmares, and even road test some solutions to real life problems. Step 1: Start a dream journal Keep a journal and a pen next to your bed so you can immediately record everything that happens in your dreams. You’ll begin to see patterns, and that will help you realize when you’re actually in the middle of a dream. Step 2: Adopt some new habits Look intently at mirrors, book titles, and your watch face several times a day. In dreams, these images are always blurred. Looking at them while awake will increase their appearances in your dreams, helping you recognize when you are dreaming. Tip Pinching yourself when you’re awake is another good way to train your brain to recognize when you’re dreaming, because when you pinch yourself in a dream you feel no pain. Step 3: Talk to yourself Tell yourself as you drift off to sleep that you’re going to have a lucid dream. Research shows that simply instructing your brain to realize you’re dreaming—especially when you’re in the suggestible pre-sleep phase—helps boost your odds of doing so. Step 4: Set an early alarm Set your alarm half an hour earlier than normal. When it rings, stay awake 30 to 60 minutes, then go back to sleep. Because you likely interrupted dream-intense REM sleep, you’re now 20% to 50% more likely to have a lucid dream. Tip So George Clooney is about to kiss you and you feel like you’re starting to wake up? Pretend to spin around in circles. This keeps the dream going 96% of the time. Step 5: Start directing Once you’re attuned to the fact that you’re dreaming, start altering the action. Fly over mountains. Tell off your mother-in-law. Have a 'dream' date. You can also test problem-solving scenarios, practice sensitive confrontations, and speak to loved ones who have passed. Did You Know? Lewis Carroll was inspired to write Alice in Wonderland after having a lucid dream.

Jungle Bob is here to show you that owning a pet reptile or amphibian is not as crazy as you might think. In this video, he tells you seven cool facts about bearded dragons. When we think of the continent of Australia, we think of unusual animals right away, from kangaroos to platypuses to wallabies. They're all over there in Australia, it seems. But there are some that are not that unusual, just fantastic creatures. And one of them is the Pogona Vitticeps, the Bearded Dragon. There's a number of different species in Australia, but the popular one is the dragon you see in front of you here, that has dominated the pet world now for the last 20 to 25 years. In their native Australia, they're inquisitive creatures that easily inhabit areas where people are. They like to climb fence posts and look out to see what's going on. Males will dominate a territory and have multiple females as mates. And they're prolific breeders. They have up to 20 eggs at a time and they dominate the landscape they come from. They're quick when they have to be to escape predators. They're extremely fast runners. For the most part, they're kind of sit there and look out and see what's going on animals in the wild. They're very fun and animated to watch. They'll eat a variety of things from insects to greens to small pieces of meat, such as rodents. Bearded Dragons are largely protected now in their native Australia. They're no longer exported, which is very good. Thank you, Australia, for allowing us to have some of them. But because of their prolific nature, they are no longer hunted there and they're free to multiply and grow in Australia without any danger of being threatened by the pet trade or by confiscation. The Bearded Dragon gets his name, as you can see, the big male here is going to get a little territorial. First he gets up on his front limbs. And if he gets really agitated with the smaller one in front of him, he'll do two things. First, he'll start bobbing his head up and down to say, "I'm the biggest dragon in this area, so back off." And if that doesn't work, he actually throws out his throat. It turns black and he puffs it out. It looks like a big black beard. And that's where the animal gets his name. The Bearded Dragon will do that every time an animal is reintroduced into its area. If he wants to threaten it, he will throw that beard out. Sometimes in captivity they don't bother doing it anymore because they're so docile by nature and he knows this other dragon, so he's not really doing it at this moment. But two males together, one will dominate the other. He'll say, "I'm the biggest dragon here." If the other one is of equal size and equal temperament, they will fight. If not, the smaller one actually submits. And what they do is take their arm and they move it ever so slowly in a counter clockwise direction and the larger dragon will understand that that's like a person saying, "Don't hit me." He puts his hands up and says, "I don't want to fight." So, they work things out together in nature. In nature, of course, they can disappear and run in different areas. In a captive environment, they have to have that submissive language going back and forth between them in order to avoid fights in captivity. The Bearded Dragon, an Australian treasure for sure.

So right now I'm going to share with you five advanced techniques, some moves that you might not always think about, but some pretty interesting ways to kind of use your body and coordinate some motion. The first example is something called a rose move, and a rose move is when you actually open away from the walls, that your hips are facing in a different direction. Often times the way the holds are laid out on the wall will dictate whether or not these types of moves are going to be necessary. So the rose move would be when my left hand was here, and I'm crossing underneath with my right hand, turning my hips away from the wall. Another example of an advanced technique will be what's known as a knee bar. A knee bar is when you're using not necessarily your knee, but more commonly the to of your thigh, and you're going to use that thigh and your foot to really create some opposition and allow your body to really be weighted on just that knee bar, and the tension that you're getting between those two points. So right there you'll notice I can take all my body weight and place it right here on this knee bar with my left foot really pushing and getting that thigh up against that hold, which allows me to turn this corner. One other technique would be similar to using a toe hook, except you're using two toe hooks at the same time, which is also known as a bat hang. In this instance, a bat hang allows me to make this change in angle and complete this transition. So that would be a bat hang. Another technique is something known as a bicycle, and a bicycle is where you're using the bottom side of your toe and the top of your toe, which would be a toe hook, at the same time to basically squeeze one hold or two holds together to create that same sense of opposition, almost like closing a vice. So right here I'll use a bicycle on this yellow hold to keep both of my feet up, keep my body in position. So in this position, you can see one leg is pulling, the other leg is pushing the whole time, I have my core involved to help keep those legs up, my body in position. That's how you use a bicycle. The final move here is something known as a drop knee. The drop knee is a great way to kind of lower your center of gravity, and keep it in your base of support, which are the contact points you have with the wall. When your center of gravity is lower, your base of support, it makes you more stable, more capable of doing a move slowly, with a bit more control. So to get into the drop knee, I'll place my left foot on this hold, and then literally turn my knee in, dropping it down, and twisting up. That drop knee allows you to really keep your center of gravity nice and low within your base of support, making your body nice and balanced and stable, really allows you to suck that hip in nice and close to the wall, to get a little bit of extra reach out of that whole system. And those are a couple of advanced bouldering techniques you might encounter here in the gym.

How to Tie a Merovingian Knot | Men's Fashion

We're in New York. And I'm going to teach you how to tie the Merovingian knot. It's also called Ediety knot. So the way you want to start for this knot, it's a knot that goes around the narrow side quite a few times, so you want to wear the wide end fairly long compared to the narrow end, probably about 20 inches below depending on the length of your tie. So this is how you start. The wide end goes underneath the narrow end. You go over the top once and pull it out on the same side. So this is what you have. Now you go over to the front, underneath through the back, and now you should be in this position so the tie is upside down. So this is a tie from my friend Cara Patrizio from Capelli in Naples, Italy. And this is how you proceed. So your tie is upside down. You go around the back, through the top. You're almost there. Now the last step you have to complete is reverse the knot, loosen it gently, and slide the white part inside the loop that you've created for that. Adjust it nicely. Tighten the knot, and there you go. You have your Merovingian knot. So after spending so much time tying the knot, it's something you don't want to wear when you're really casual. It's really a knot that is used in formal occasions, probably wearing a three piece suit, for example, or a nice blazer. And definitely going with a sophisticated look with this type of knot. The guy who created this knot probably watch Matrix a little bit too much, but this is probably where the name came from, the Merovingian knot.

How to Train Your Bird to Talk

Watch more How to Take Care of a Pet Bird videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/217448-How-to-Train-Your-Bird-to-Talk Birds aren't like babies—you can't expect them to pick up speech just by babbling away at them. You need a plan. Step 1: Pick the right breed If you haven’t already bought Tweety, pick a breed that is known for its chattiness. Amazon parrots and African greys are the gabbiest, followed by macaws, male cockatiels, mynahs, and parakeets. Tip Female cockatiels, female budgies, grass parakeets, rosellas, and canaries don’t talk. Step 2: Choose an inquisitive bird Once you’ve narrowed your choices to a talkative breed, focus your attention on choosing a bird that seems alert and interested in what’s going on around him. These are clues that he’ll make a good talker. Step 3: Get a young bird Get a young bird. Like the proverbial old dog who can’t learn new tricks, an older bird is going to have more trouble picking up speech. Step 4: Name that bird Give the bird a name that is no more than two syllables. A longer name reduces the chances that he will learn to say his own name. Step 5: Designate a teacher If you’re married and/or have children, pick one person to teach the bird. If several people are trying to instruct the bird, it will only confuse it. Tip Birds learn more easily from women. Step 6: Time your training Start training at the optimal time. For smaller birds, that’s at four to six months. For bigger birds, wait until they’re six to twelve months. Tip Don’t teach a bird to whistle before training him to talk, or it will make the speech lessons that much harder. Step 7: Keep it simple Start training by saying a few simple words to Tweety, always using them under the same circumstances. For example, you could say 'Good morning' every day when you first rise, and you could reserve 'Bye' for when the bird can see you walk out the door. Step 8: Repeat words Repeat the words several times in each instance. You want the bird to start associating the sound you are making with the context. Step 9: Reward speech Give Tweety a treat every time he repeats something you are teaching him. Tip Remember that birds don’t just repeat what you want them to; they mimic sounds they hear. So if you’re suffering a bout of loud flatulence, or getting ready to rip someone a new one, stay out of Tweety’s earshot. Step 10: Unteach them If Tweety has picked up a bad word, washing his mouth out with soap won’t work. But ignoring him when he repeats the word will, because getting your attention is his main incentive. Step 11: Enjoy Now enjoy chatting with your fine-feathered friend! Did You Know? Talking birds often will imitate your phone’s ring tone because they get a kick out of watching you come running.

It is both mentally and physically enriching for your dog and it improves your skills as your dogs trainer. an easy trick that you can get started with would be paw, or some people refer to that as shake and what you want to make sure you do with tricks training is keep the training fun and positive for your dog. A good recommendation I'd like to give everyone is to resist the temptation to grab whenever training any behavior - you want them to think it through and in order for them to do that you need to break it down into small achievable steps so you're not necessarily looking for the end result you're looking for anything that's moving in the direction of that. So for paw I'm not going to grab at his feet because he might not like that he's also not using his brain if I'm doing the work for him so dogs if they often cannot get something with their mouth they use their feet so I'm going to put a treat right on Jack's nose and I'm going to have my hand ready when he tries to knock them out of my hand because he can't get them with his mouth and I'm just going to wait for that - I'm going to wait for any paw movement whatsoever - he moved his left paw just a little bit so that was a nice baby step - good I got a lot of movement out of the right one - I'm going to try again - good - I say the word good every time he does the behavior correctly and slowly it seems that I will be able to shake with his paw. The repetition of hearing the word good when his paw touches my paw so he makes that association. So now I think I'm ready to take the treats away - good - he ois still going to get one but I don't necessarily want to put them up front anymore and then we can work with a little duration so he can hold it there - oh beautiful - good and now that he's doing that readily if I'd like to put a verbal que on it I'm going to be able to say - Jack - paw - good - and now I've taught my dog to give paw.

Now, when it comes to potty training your parrot, the thing you need to realize is that birds are wild animals. They're going to poop every 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the species. So, the first thing you got to do is get out of your mind that you're going to have a perfect potty train that'll never poop on anything. Because no matter how good of a job you do, accidents will still happen. So, stock up on good cleaning supplies: a wetvac, a mop, anything you can use to clean your parrots nest is good. The less of a big deal you make about the parrot making a mess, the less you're going to encourage any of that type of behavior. Another strategy is to keep the parrot on parrot-approved places, like this tree right here. The bottom is made to be easy to clean. So, if the parrots spent a lot of their time on parrot places instead of on human furniture, you're less likely to have a mess throughout your house. Part of the strategy for keeping your parent on parrot-approved places is to do a lot of training, like the tricks we've been going over. If you teach your parrots tricks on their training arches and trees, they're more familiar with spending time on those places and their more likely to go over to them when they're out and about. Now, when it comes to actually the potty training process, you can't really do it the same way that you teach normal tricks such as clicking and giving a treat. That's known to make parrots hold it in for too long and that can actually hurt their digestive system. So, instead, it's important to encourage the parrot to poop on it's designated places but not mandate it. So, the strategy is to realize how long between poops that your bird goes. If you realize that you have a small bird and it goes every five minutes, that's going to be the number you go for. The bigger bird might be half an hour. But these guys, maybe about 15 minutes. So, what Im going to do, when I want to just spend time with my bird, I want to have him on my shoulder, on me, I will hold them and make sure that I'm not spending more than the allotted time between when they go to do their business. So, I might pick up the bird and hold it for ten minutes. Knowing that they're going to poop in 15. Play with them, do whatever I want to do with my pet. Then, I'm going to go and put them back down on their stand after ten minutes elapses. Now, I'm going to wait five minutes until they finally take their poop, whatever that comes out to. And as soon as they do, I'm going to make a big deal. Be like "Wow, that was very good! That's great!" And I'll come back over and pick up the bird and spend more time with it again. And then ten minutes goes by. I feel like a next poop is due. Before it can happen, I'll put her back down on the perch and wait until she does it. After you do this for a couple weeks or months, your parrot will catch on that the sooner they do their business when they're put down, the sooner you'll pick them up and keep spending time with them. So, they learn to naturally do more of they're business around their perches instead of on you or on unapproved human furniture areas. If your parrot wings aren't clip and they're flighted, they can even learn to fly back to they're stand when they need to go, which is really convenient if you lose track of timing. If they're familiar and accustomed to pooping on their stand, they'll fly over when they need to go. The last thing you can do to encourage your parrot do it's business on it's poopy perch is when you take it out first thing in the morning, put it down on it's perch and wait until it's goes. Most parrots hold it in at night and they have to go really bad in the morning and they try to avoid going in their cages. So, as soon as you take them out, put them right down on their poopy perch and let them go. And after they're done, you can pick them up and do your normal routine with them. This way, they learn to go to that designated place and to hold it in until you put them down and it's time to do it. So, that's some tips for you about potty training your parrot.

This technique is called sankyo. Or number three in the series of techniques that O'Sensei established. And again, this whole series, one through five, is going to start with ikkyo. So if we look at shomenuchi, ikkyo, you meet and down. Again, I want to lift the hand so that I'm looking at the palm of my partner's hand. Reach underneath. I'm going to wrap my fingers right around the inside of the palm. And the fingers are another aspect that I have. I'm going to step back. And think about pointing all of this directly at your partner as they turn and cut. Again, this is very similar to the sword work that we do in aikido. Again, I don't want to point the fingers down and cut with the butt of the sword. I want to try to cut out with the tip and the elbow of the sword. And I'm going to continue to move around the front, irimi tenkan and down. The pin incorporated here, sankyo pin. Alright. So again, you start with ikkyo. Ikkyo, lift, take the hand and step back, cut, irimi tenkan, straight down on the shoulder and pin. So if we look at the ura variation. Again, I move to the back side first, lift, continue to move behind and down, spiraling movement towards ugay's back. Up for the pin, pull through. Ura, lift, hand position, tenkan, and back. Up for the pin, pull through. Couple other variations that we'll often see, straight down, straight up. Can also use sankyo to create openings for other techniques. Sankyo, number three.

Step 1: Choose the right environment Choose an environment for studying where you will be free from distractions including phone calls, television, or other interruptions. Step 2: Prioritize your studies Prioritize your study materials so that the most important or the hardest is finished first. Step 3: Read for comprehension Read your materials over once for basic comprehension. Don't stress about remembering it all on the first read. Step 4: Read and take notes Read the material again, taking notes and summarizing the main ideas in your own words. Tip Make new material stick by relating it to something you already know or care about. Context and emotion enhance our ability to remember. Step 5: Use you senses Use your senses to assist with learning. When possible, don't just read, but listen to lectures or podcasts, and watch instructional videos. Build a rich understanding of the material. Step 6: Quiz yourself Quiz yourself without the aid of any notes. Write down your answers or speak them aloud. In other words, rehearse for the test. Tip Take a nap after a heavy study session to allow your brain time to rest. Napping after studying can help with recall. Step 7: Test yourself again Test yourself again and again, at different times of the day and week. This "self-testing" will reinforce your studies so that when the real test arrives, you'll be ready. Did You Know? In ancient Greece and Rome, people used the "loci" memorization method, which involves visualizing placing each thing you need to remember in a familiar room or on a familiar road, and picking it up as you take a mental walk around the room or down the road.

Swoop: My first way, of course, is the granny shot here, that's the best way to become a good shooter. Or you have the two-hand, one-foot fling. I'm all for... A: Real good (?) move right there. Swoop: You like that one right there? I'm workin' on my moves (?) about practice, man. A: But listen, we're gonna show people the proper way how to shoot the ball. Swoop: That's not the right way. A: That's not the right way. Swoop: The two-foot fling is not gonna do it. A: No. Swoop: No, OK. A: You see your leg right there? Swoop: Oh, but I was, yeah, that's how you gotta balance. A: Alright, you look like you're a dancer. Swoop: Oh, that's dancin' stuff, man. A: Yeah, you look like a ballerina. Swoop: You think so? A: So we're gonna let DP the correct way to shoot the basketball with good form... Swoop: OK. A: ...good balance... Swoop: Alright. A: ...and good follow through. Beef! Swoop: Beef! Both: Balance, eyes, elbow, follow through. A: There you go. Swoop: I do that, see? A: Now, we're over here with the expert, DP. He's gonna show us the basic fundamentals on how to become a better shooter. First you wanna get the ball, you wanna get good hand placement. You wanna form a 'T' with your hands right here, with your two thumbs and this is your guide hand, and this is your shooting hand. So, you wanna have your hands here. You got good leg placement. Good knee bend right here. His right foot is slightly in front of his left for balance. Swoop: OK. A: Eyes should be on the front of the rim, get that ball right over the front of the rim. Keep your elbow in, your right elbow here, in this case, 'cause he's right-handed. And you want to get good follow through on the shot. So he's gonna show us a couple repetitions on great technique. Repetition and muscle memory. Here we go. There's DP. Follow through. Bam. Follow through every time. Swoop: Not bad, not bad. A: There you go. There he is. Notice the follow through, notice the balance. Every time. Shot's the same every time. And then he just gets shots up there. Every shot, you want it to look the same. You want every shot to look the same. Follow through. Good muscle memory. Follow through. Good muscle memory. Move it back. Swoop: Oh, move back a little bit. A: When he moves back the shot still looks the same. It's a natural flow, natural shot. Every one goes in when you use the proper technique. Little toilet bowl action. Face. There you go. Nice. Follow through, all net. Swoop: All net. A: This is an expert, Swoop! Swoop: This expert! A: This is an expert! Swoop: Yeah, but what you say... A: [SS] Swoop: ...this is not gonna work for me. A: No, that's not gonna be what we're looking for. Swoop: That's not gonna work. But I'm working on it. A: No, no, no, that's not what we're looking for. We're looking for an expert to show us, and then... Swoop: There it is, OK. A: Alright, there you go. Swoop: OK, let's get that thing going, alright! A: Look at him [SS] go. Swoop: Oh, alright, OK. A: Look at him go, look at him go there, Swoop, see that? Swoop: There it is, there it is. A: It's all in the pass, too, Swoop. A good pass makes a good shot. Swoop: So shooting is all about preparation... A: Yes. Swoop: ...good form... A: Yes. Swoop: ...balance, muscle memory... A: Yeah. Swoop: ...repetition. A: That's a lot of things to remember. Swoop: Wow, that's a lot. A: But guess what? If you focus on your shooting technique first... Swoop: Right. A: ...then you'll be able to become a better shooter once you do it over and over again. Just to go over some of the key points. You want to have great balance, eyes on the front of the rim, keep your elbow in, and have a nice follow through on the shot. Bam!

You're going to need a cucumber. Just cutting the half first, and off, and slice, one more time. Then you're going to get the seeds out, then julienne. That's your julienne, cucumber. This is avocado. Take the stem off then go 360 degrees. Twist and then you slice. And that's your avocado. Now we are ready to roll the California roll. Sea weed, rough side up, this is a half sea weed with your hand. And I'm going to do it inside out. Inside the roll is, rice is outside. Regular roll is sea weed is outside. So we're going to spread the rice on the sea weed, cover each corner, each edge with rice then we flip over so that the rice goes outside. Now I'm going to flip over. Crab cake, avocado, cucumber. I'm Charles Brunold from New York. I'm going to teach you how to do a Pratt Knot today. The Pratt Knot is also called a Shelby Knot. I have the particularity to start upside down. So, you start with the tie the wide end about 12" below the left of the narrow end. Here I'm going in with a pretty skinny tie. So, the knot we are going to obtain is not as wide and fluffy as the one you would obtain if you did it with a wider tie, obviously. So, this is how you proceed. Starting with the tie upside down, you go the wide end underneath the narrow end, over, inside and out, over the narrow end. Just pull it in front with the wide end in front. Bring it underneath and just slide it inside the loop. There you go. You've got a Pratt Knot. Just adjust the knot. Tighten it and adjust your collar. So, this knot, the Pratt Knot is very suitable for any type of dress shirt, any type of collars. But, here I like to wear it with like a skinny tie and a widespread collar like this one. Seeing the result is fantastic. So, this is how you tie the Pratt Knot.

How to Spot Sexual Attraction in Eyes | Body Language

03:34
Watch more How to Read Body Language videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501674-How-to-Spot-Sexual-Attraction-in-Eyes-Body-Language Out of all the different non-verbal behaviors, I think that spotting attraction is without a doubt the easiest. We are very emotional creatures and when we're attracted to somebody, it's very, very difficult to hide. People think they're hiding it, but things always slip. One of the ways they slip are essentially the eyes. There are a lot of different ways you can use the eyes to determine whether or not someone's attracted to you. The first thing is essentially eye contact. For the most part, usually we make eye contact with people that we're interested in or people that we're attracted to. Right? But this is not entirely true. Some people are shy or anxious and they're not going to make eye contact. So what you're looking for essentially is a deviation in eye contact. So one of the ways you can use eye contact and there's a little trick that's very, very reliable. So what you're going to do is if you look at somebody in a bar or restaurant or on the street and they break eye contact vertically, so they look down. So you make eye contact with them and they break eye contact vertically and then within 20-30 seconds they reestablish eye contact, approach them. They like you. It's a very, very reliable thing. Essentially what they're doing. You stare at them. They're submitting to you and then they take a little second glance to see who you are. It's very, very, very reliable. The opposite of that would be if you look at somebody and they look at you and they immediately go and break eye contact. Nope, not interested. But what is reliable is they break eye contact and they come back. Break eye contact and then come back. Break eye contact and then come back. It's very interesting. And don't let it wait. If you see that, go right away because the more and more you wait. The more and more eye contact becomes very, very awkward. One of the things that I do in one of my classes is I have people stare each other in the eyes for three minutes without saying anything. They just stare each other in the eyes like this. Try that. Go out and try to stare somebody in the eyes for even 90 seconds. I guarantee you can't do it. It's awkward. It's so awkward because humans are not really at a level intimacy. When you stare somebody in the eyes is so awkward when you're doing it with a stranger. Studies will show that if you stare somebody in the eyes for 90 seconds to three minutes, all of a sudden you're going to like that person a lot better than everybody else in the room because you kind of shared this emotional connection. So eye contact is important in that respect. The second thing you can look for essentially is blink rate. Now, this is really cool. So blink rate correlate with emotional excitement. When we are emotionally excited, our blink rates tend to increase. Right? Average blink rates tend to be below 20 blinks per minute. For most people it really depends on where you are, but it's really hard to nail down what the average blink rate is. But in my experience, it seems to be around 10 blinks per minute. Right? So you see, whenever you see a sudden spike or a bunch of sudden spikes in somebody's blink rate in can be an indication of attraction. In my dating studies you see blink rates through the roof because the person across the table from you has an emotional response. You're attracted to them. The third way of kind of using the eyes to determine attraction is dilation. It's very interesting. Our eyes dilate when we're attracted to something. Right? Go out and find a Maxim magazine or a Playboy magazine or any cover that's predominately men focusing. Every single woman will have her eyes dilated. You never, ever see them constricted. The reason why is because men perceive women with dilated eyes more attractive than women with more constricted eyes. To the point of back in the day prostitutes used to put a specific toxin in their eyes to make them dilate.

Kristina: And I'm Kristina. Aaron: And we are professional dance instructors here in New York City, and today we're going to bringing you a series based on the waltz. Kristina: So the first step we're going to do is the box step which is like the most common foundational step for everything you're going to learn in the waltz. So just a couple of things really quickly. The waltz is a smooth dance, which means it travels around the room in a counter-clockwise direction, so if you're ever anywhere where there are people dancing, just kind of take note of the direction that they're going and make sure you join in and go that same direction. So we're going to start this pattern side by side. We're both going to begin with our left foot going forward. The girls just note that generally you will generally be starting this on your right foot going backward. So we're going to take our left foot. We have one step forward, one. Step to the side with your right foot, two. Close your left foot to your right foot, three. And then go ahead and take a step back on the right, side left, close right foot to left foot. So we have one, two, three, one two, three. And so a note for this, if you've ever seen waltz dancing, there is a rise and fall to this dance, so the downbeat is on one so we're going to call it, in its most basic terms, going forward, down, up, up, down, up, up. And that's just a really basic way to kind of get you familiar with the rise and fall of the waltz. You can kind of try to add that in. So let's dance this with a partner. So we're going to take our traditional dance hold, palm to palm, and then girls you're going to take your right hand and place it just below the shoulder. Gentlemen your left hand will be in her palm, right hand will be on her shoulder blade. So, another important note. When you set up, be slightly offset. So girls think about stepping slightly to the left. Guys, think about having her slightly to her right. That way you won't hit feet when you try to dance. So we have one, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three. We can also take this basic step and we can rotate it to the left a little bit, so we'll show you that right now. And one, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three. Now let's try that to some music.

Owning a pet reptile or amphibian is not as difficult as you might think. However, Jungle Bob says a chameleon is one of the exceptions. In this video, he explains why. Chameleons are sought-after pets and I really have to interview people long and hard to make sure they know what they're getting into. Because of all the animals in the pet world, chameleons are certainly the hardest to stay alive. By nature, they're extremely skittish. You see this one doesn't want to be out in the limelight here he doesn't like the bright lights that are on him. He wants to be in a tree and he wants to hide. But that's not possible today, so he'll be okay for a few minutes. As a keeper, he needs a couple of things to keep him alive. First, they really don't do well in a glass enclosure. Chameleons like airflow so a screen is much better for them. A screened enclosure where the air can flow through is great. They can also grab on to the screen with their nails and climb all around, it which they can't do with glass. Worse than that, though, in order to keep them happy is they will need a water source to drink from and that is not a bowl. Chameleons like this do not drink from standing water. They drink drips. When it rains they drink as much water as they can. But the only other water they get is basically dew in the morning that will form on the leaves and will start to drip off of it. And we will often see them licking the leaves inside their enclosures to get their moisture. If we forgot to mist them and forget to put that moisture on, put a bowl of water and go away for three days, they will die of thirst. They do not know enough to go down to a standing body of water and take a drink. Some species yes, Veiled chameleons, no. So, you really have to be a diligent keeper and keep your animal watered as best as possible. There are a number of devices on the market to do that automatically. But there's nothing like an old plant Mister that you use with your hand to make sure your lizard is drinking every day. As they get to know you they will take it right out of the end of the bottle in order to get their much needed water source. Chameleons are really an advanced lizard keepers pet. You cannot be a beginner and keep a chameleon happy. They have very fragile legs and arms. They need to be totally camouflaged and have places to hide inside or they become very short-lived. Even in the best of conditions chameleons are not long-lived creatures. Some only a couple of years. Some, five, six, seven years is about as much as you're going to get as chameleon pet. So, a wonderful, "Wow, what is that?" type of animal, but extremely fragile and you have to think twice whether or not you want to buy a chameleon. Of all the chameleon species veiled chameleons are absolutely the most hearty. The males actually this beautiful crest on top of their hand. And they can actually be taught to eat out of your hand by holding the food item here. They'll shoot it out of your hand. He's a little bit too nervous to do it today, but he'll eat it right out of your hand and that's a wonderful thing to observe in captivity. So there's the veiled chameleon, one of the best chameleons on the market.

How to Hula Dance

Watch more How to Dance videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/217848-How-to-Hula-Dance Get a little hula in your life by learning how to do these basic moves. Step 1: Stand facing your mirror with your feet about four inches apart. Bend your knees and put your hands on your hips. Tip Dance on a comfortable surface; the hula is always done barefoot. Step 2: Use this four-beat pattern for your feet. First, step eight inches to the right with your right foot. Second, bring your left foot toward your right without sliding it. Third, step with your right foot again, and fourth, bring your left foot toward your right, tapping the ground on the fourth beat. Switch directions, leading with the left foot. Step 3: Now bring your hips into the four-beat mix. As you step to the right, lower your foot toe-heel and lift your hip; repeat with your left foot and hip. Sway right, then left, right again, and then left again. Repeat to the left side. Tip Keep your knees bent – it helps your hips sway! Step 4: Bend your left arm so your hand is in front of the left side of your chest, palm facing down, fingers together and gently extended. Extend your right arm away from your body at shoulder level and keep your elbow slightly bent, your palm down, and your fingers together. Step 5: Without letting your left arm touch your chest, bend your elbows and wrists so they are swaying in a wave motion. On the first step to the left, switch so the left arm is extended and the right arm is in front of your right breast. Repeat. Tip As you move, keep your body relaxed but your shoulders still. Step 6: Look out at your extended hand while you're dancing. If mele, or traditional song, accompanies your dance, use your face and eyes to tell the story of the song. And don’t forget to smile! Hula dancing is for celebrations. Did You Know? 19th-century Christian missionaries urged Hawaiian women to replace the hula skirt with a high-necked, long-sleeved gown called a holoku.

If you could get over the fact that it's a spider, and many people don't like that arachnophobia is rampant, but it's really more of an education situation and once you realize how simple a tarantula is to keep and how hand-able some of the species are it becomes a most excellent pet. For our society being in smaller and smaller homes and apartments, this is ideal because a ten gallon tank is pretty much a large enough tank for any type of tarantula to keep for a long period of time. If you get a nice female tarantula, you can get one that lives for twenty to twenty five years. A very low investment in your time, low investment to purchase, some of these animals run to thirty dollars for an animal of twenty five years you can get an awful lot of enjoyment out of them. So what's the best place to get them? What's the best type of tarantula? There are wild caught ones and they predominate in the pet world. There are captive hatched ones those are tarantulas that the tarantula mother was taken from the wild and had babies in captivity so their not totally wild not totally domesticated kind of in betweeners. And then there are tarantulas that come from breeders that have multi generation lived in this country are free of parasites free of diseases and have been handled if you will from birth. That's probably the best way to go. A captive hatched baby tarantula we call it a spiderling or a sling they are a teeny tiny things some times an eighth of an inch wide and are very very very fragile How do you keep them? Well you keep them in a very small container. We use to keep them in little test tube vials in the old days. Now there is a number of enclosures you can actually have to keep the spiderling in. You gotta keep the moist ones moist if they are from that environment and the humid ones humidified but you have to really find a place where you can find the proper size prey. That's the probably the most important thing to keep in the baby spider. Little spider, little tiny insects. Most pet stores don't carry things like that. You're going to have to figure that out. We have solutions for that at Jungle Bobs in the terms of spring tails, little tiny isopod type animals that a baby spider can handle. They grow very quickly and it's very awarding to see a spider to grow from a little sling all the way up to an adult tarantula. And if you're lucky and get a female you've got a companion for the next decade or two.

A few, this one is called a Jersey Wally, this one is a Rex the grey one, this one is a Flemish Giant, this one is a New Zealand White and we have here a little buddy called a Lion Head and next to him is a Netherlands Dwarf. We actually DE-emphasize breeds when people are adopting bunnies we always tell them no matter how beautiful the rabbit, no matter how much you love the breed, the thing to pay attention to really is the personality. And I told Amy once that is kind of like when you are dating a guy that is just really gorgeous and you find out that the personality isn't there, you don't care about the looks after a while it is very, very interesting. I had somebody come into my apartment one time to adopt only a Lap rabbit. The Lap rabbits are the ones that have the down ears. We don't have a Lap rabbit here but they have the ears that go down like a Cocker Spaniels and this lady came in and she said she only wanted consider a Lap and I had a couple of Laps and she loved one of them and started righting the adoption papers to take him home. But every time she went by this other rabbits cage the rabbit would stick his head out and look at her and try to make eye contact with her and after a couple of minutes she said you know Mary I think this rabbits trying to tell me something . So I said I think he is too , why don't you put down the Lap ear rabbit and go over and talk to that rabbit. And long story short she did and ended up adopting that second rabbit and the rabbit was definitely reaching out to her. It wasn't a breed she was interested in but the personality was so out going and so affectionate and she just loved him to pieces. So, we always tell people look at the different breeds for sure, we get all breeds into shelters all the time but go by the personality. It is much more Speaker 2: But normally you wouldn't put a bunch of rabbits together like this because they always don't get along, right? Speaker 1: Thanks for saying that, this is a challenge to have all these rabbits together on the same table . We have male, male, next to each other female, female next to each other that's not an easy thing to do in the rabbit world. Were really careful about putting rabbits together and we're just doing this to give an idea of different breeds. We want to make sure that we stay safe here. Speaker 2: Wow. Speaker 1: We are keeping the rabbits from each other for that reason. Speaker 2: Look at all the different coats. Speaker 1: Look at all the hair flying in the air from all these different coats. Speaker 2: Rabbit breeds.

Jungle Bob is here to show you that owning a pet reptile or amphibian is not as complicated as you might think. In this video, he shares four tips about caring for a pixie frog. A lot of people come in to buy pets, they want that wow factor pet, and they're looking for a frog that's easy to keep while often pointing to a Pixie or a South African bullfrog. I do that because, I do it with a smirk on my face, because I'm going to see them a lot in the future, because these little guys here do one thing well, and that's eat. There's a misnomer in the amphibian world, and that is frogs eat nothing but flies. We often see pictures in kid's books and frogs smiling happily, shooting flies out of the air with their elongated tongues This is not true. Frogs are predators, frogs have teeth in their mouth, and they'll just about anything. And a little, baby Pixie frog like this, in about a year or two, will turn into a monster like this. Everybody, meet Jabba, we call him Jabba, the African Bullfrog. The African bullfrog, or Pixie frog, is a true predator, that will eat just about anything that gets in front of him. We've seen him eat fish, we've seen him pick birds that fell out of their nest. Once in a while, he'll eat a snake, a lizard, anything that he can get his formidable mouth on, he will grab. He does not shoot his tongue, that's a mistake. People think frogs shoot their tongues way up into the air to catch flies that go by. You think Jabba is living on flies here? No, flies are really hard to catch for an animal his size, and we'd have to feed him a thousand of them a day to maintain that body weight. So, instead, he sits there, burns no calories, and waits for food to be deposited. So, therefore, if he's in a terrarium, wow, what a great animal, because no matter what you drop in front of him, he's going to make a meal out of it. It's extremely animated and a lot of fun to watch, and the variety of foods, anything you could find, even something you find outside in the garden, you drop in front of Jabba and down the chute it goes. So, the African bullfrog is a wonder of the pet world these days. You need a pretty good size tank for a guy this big, they will get 2/12 to 3 pounds in size. The African bullfrog.

How to Survive a Hurricane

03:31
Watch more Hurricanes & Storms videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/471526-How-to-Survive-a-Hurricane Don't wait until a storm is heading your way! Survive a hurricane with these safety precautions. Step 1: Plan ahead Plan ahead. Know the location of local shelters and how you'll evacuate if you don't have a car. If you have family members with special medical needs, ask local officials if there's a registry so they get help in the event of power outages. Pick a place for family members to meet in case you become separated, and designate an out-of-town friend as the person everyone calls to report that they're safe. Get flood insurance if you don't already have it. Tip Make sure you know how to shut off electricity, gas, and water in case you're instructed to do so. Step 2: Be prepared Have the following supplies on hand at the start of hurricane season: a 3-day supply of water that provides 1 gallon per person per day; a 3-day supply of non-perishable food that doesn't require cooking; a flashlight and extra batteries; a battery-powered radio that can receive broadcasts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; a first-aid kit; and a 7-day supply of medications. Tip The Atlantic and Central Pacific hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30; the Eastern Pacific is from May 15 through November. Step 3: Get ready If a hurricane warning is issued -- meaning one is expected in the next 36 hours -- bring in anything that can be tossed around by the wind; close and board up all windows and doors with 5/8" marine plywood, unless you have hurricane shutters; clear rain gutters and downspouts; trim trees and shrubs; put your refrigerator and freezer on the coldest setting; and fill your car's gas tank in case you're ordered to evacuate. Step 4: Go to a safe place If you live on the first or 2nd floor of a high rise, make plans to take refuge with neighbors between floors 3 and 10 when the storm begins. Residents who live above the 10th floor should evacuate, as should mobile home dwellers and anyone living on a floodplain, near a river, or on an inland waterway. Step 5: Do last-minute preparations Shortly before the storm is expected to start, fill your bathtub with water so you have an extra supply on hand. Unplug small appliances and sensitive electronics, and turn off propane tanks. Step 6: Ride out the storm When the storm starts, stay away from windows and glass doors and avoid using the phone. Go to your home's lowest level and stay in an interior room, closet, or hallway. Have a mattress or pillow to protect your head. Monitor weather conditions on your radio and don't leave your safe place until local officials say it's okay to do so. Step 7: Avoid post-storm dangers If you lose electricity, keep circuit breakers turned off until power is restored, then check for frayed wires. If you see any, call the power company. Leave the house immediately if you smell gas. If you're returning home, don't enter your house if floodwaters remain around the building; you see loose power lines or structural damage; or you smell a gas leak. If you have any safety concerns at all, stay elsewhere until your home is checked by a building inspector or structural engineer. Did You Know? 2/3 of the hurricanes that hit land in the United States between 1981 and 2011 struck the Gulf Coast. The other third hit the Atlantic Coast.

And handling the ball with speed is good because it makes it more difficult for the defender to steal the ball from you. So right now we'll walk through a couple of quick drills that we use on a regular basis that help us to handle the ball faster. First ting we want to do is work on a particular drill and then you want to try to go for speed in it. Right now we have one of our coaches, Jerry, who's gonna time us on these particular drills. Right now Sammy will go for 15 seconds and what'll we'll do right now is he's gonna do his first set for 15 seconds and then we'll have him do a second set to see if he can increase his speed as far ball handling. So right now, Sammy will get nice and low. He's gonna cross over and go behind his back. Every time the ball gets to his right hand, he's gonna count the rep. So I'll count for him right now. Jerry when you tell me to go, we'll go. Jerry: Ready, go! Jason: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Alright. So Sammy did eight in 15 seconds. So now he has a goal where every time he works out he has a point of emphasis in the base as far as trying to exceed his time. Now I'll try to do something a little bit more advanced with the advanced ball handlers. And remember, everything that we do I'm gonna try to do with my eyes closed and head up. Jerry'll give me 30 seconds on this. Jerry: Ready, go! Jason: One, two, three, four, five, I lose it, I come right back. Eyes closed, chin up. Six. Jerry: Stop. Jason: Alright? So I got to about six and a half. So right now we'll have Sammy finish up to see if he can do it any faster than he did his first set. So again Sammy will have his eyes closed, chin up. He'll get low. Eight is his number to beat. 15 seconds. Jerry: Ready, go! Jason: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. Jerry: Stop. Jason: Alright. So you see? Now, Sammy worked on his ball handling. He was able to get ten. Those are the types of drills that you can do on a regular basis in order to be come a faster ball handler.

Jungle Bob is here to show you that owning a pet reptile or amphibian is not as complicated as you might think. In this video, he shares five tips about caring for a red-eyed tree frog. Tree Frogs are very popular pets in the reptile and amphibian hobby, and there are some easy ones to keep, like Dumpy frogs and Green Tree frogs. But if you get bored with those species, it's time to move on to the big game, and that is red-eyed tree frogs. Red-eyed tree frogs are beautiful terrarium subjects. I mean, they're one of our favorites as far as observing them in your terrarium, but they're more for the advanced keeper, in that they are extremely fragile. Just taking a look at some of the skinny little legs on these guys and the very narrow bodies can tell you right off the bat that they are not really the easiest things to keep. They can leap tremendous distances, as you just saw, but it's really more the temperature, the humidity is something you really have to pay attention to when you keep these things in your terrarium. We have a different word these days for terrariums and that is a vivarium, and that's where I would keep my red-eyed tree frogs. A vivarium is different. A vivarium has the substrate or the bedding where the animal comes from. It has plants, hopefully live plants if you could afford it and find a good source for them, throughout the enclosure. But in red-eyed tree frog world, which is a rainforest creature, you have to keep this thing wet, not just moist, I mean wet. Six months out of the year it's got to be soaking wet. So, we often put fog machines, waterfalls, misting systems like you see in the supermarket that mist the vegetables. Something like that that can keep the animal humid. Without humidity, frogs will vanish quickly. So, the red-eyed tree frog is a wonderful vivarium subject, but something not for the beginner. A mistake, even a couple of days of wrong humidity, could be the end of the frog. So, you got to do your homework before buying one of these. And always we try to stress getting them from captive-bred sources. That gives you the most healthy animal out there. The red-eyed tree frog, one of our favorites.

Well, they're wrong. If you know what motivates your cat, you can train it. Now, training with Fria today is going to be a little difficult because she's pretty snooty, but I'm just going to see if she has a reaction to her favorite treat bag. That can be a great place to start for coming when called. Many cats know the sound of their treat bag and get excited right off the bat when they hear it. So, let's just see if she wakes up. Oh, suddenly we're interested. Well, it's not an ideal time to practice coming when called. It is a good time to reinforce the association that hearing the treat bag means good things. Now, many cat owners already know about the treat bag effect, but what they don't know is that it's really easy to capitalize on it to teach your cat to come when called. The way to do that is to pair your cat's name with a treat. The great news is since your cat knows the sound of a treat bag or a treat canister, you can build on an already strong association. So, in this case, you might say your cat's name and then give them a treat. So, I'll go like this. Fria and then I crinkle the bag which means a treat is coming and then I give her one. Now first, when you're starting this you want to start right by your cat because they don't really know what you're trying to do. Start at a place where cat and you are most likely to be successful. So, rinse and repeat. Fria, crinkle, crinkle and then give a treat. Now, when you're ready to start working on coming when called you can begin working from a distance. I'm not going to do this with Fria today because she might walk right off the table if she happened to get up, but what you would do is the same type of behavior. Say the cat's name, crinkle the bag and as soon as they come over give a treat. Eventually, the name that you give your cat for this exercise will become as powerful as the treat bag and you'll see that when you give the sound of your cat's name that your cat comes running for that treat. Over time you can stop using food and use scratches or other positive attention that your cat enjoys as a reinforcer. Just remember that it's not normal for cats to come when called in the wild, so it's definitely a behavior that's worth paying for. That's how you teach your cat to come when called.

Speaker 2: Friends. A lot of people ask if it's a good idea to get a friend for their pet rabbit. We love when people get friends for their pet rabbits because rabbits are social animals who live in social groups in nature and they really enjoy the companionship of their own species. It's not so easy however to introduce rabbits and a lot of people have disastrous results and they call us after the fact instead of asking for advice beforehand and what happens is, they go to the pet store and they say, you know, "I have a female rabbit and I want to get a friend for the rabbit" and the pet store will say "Well, put the rabbit with another female, that way you won't have litters or whatever" and they sell the person what's supposed to be a female, it ends up being a male, the people have a litter a month later, so that's one possible ending. Another possible ending is they give them another female and the rabbits just don't get along and the person has no idea how to change this situation. So what we tell people when they want to introduce their rabbit to a friend is first of all, both rabbits need to be spayed and neutered so that they cannot reproduce and so that the hormones that drive them to reproduce will not be affecting their behavior when they're together. And what we do when we're introducing rabbits is house them side by side for a couple of weeks. In side by side pens with just enough air in between that they can't touch each other through the pens. And then we slowly introduce them and we do it by putting them in a constricted area and we wear shoes on our hands, tennis shoes on our hands. And we keep the rabbits from any kind of aggressive behavior and the minute they show any sign of aggression we plunge our hands down with the shoes on them to separate the rabbits. That way we don't get bitten, the rabbits don't get hurt, it's very easy. This is a bonded pair here now. These rabbits have been living together for a couple of years. This is a little Lion Head and this is a little Netherlands Dwarf. They're good buddies, bonded rabbits will huddle together, they'll eat together, they often do something called mirroring behavior where one rabbit will sit up and shake his hands and start to groom himself and the other rabbit will then sit up and shake his little paws and start to groom himself. Speaker 1: Copy cats. Speaker 2: Copy cats, copy rabbits, copy buns. And you'll see that in a bonded pair. It's really fun to have a bonded pair because you see behaviors that you don't see with single rabbits. One thing that really interests me is that even in the heat of the summer, these rabbits will lie together body to body, tight as can be when it's 90 degrees outside, they'll push their little bodies against one another in that heat and it doesn't bother them at all. They would much rather have the company of a bunny... Speaker 1: Oh, really? Speaker 2: ...than the coolness of separation. Yeah, it's really very touching to watch, actually. Speaker 1: You do have to consider that it's double the cost, right? I mean, it's... Speaker 2: It is double the cost. It's not double the space. Speaker 1: No, but the veterinary, I mean if you take them to the vet. Speaker 2: That's right. That's right. Speaker 1: The carriers, it's just more, but... Speaker 2: Well, not more carriers. If you take them to the vet you should be able to take them in one carrier. Speaker 1: Okay. Speaker 2: But the vet bills, the vet bills for sure, that's a big consideration. Speaker 1: Yeah, right. Speaker 2: If one gets sick, they're in contact with the other one, the other one is likely to get sick too, you may end up with two vet bills. So you do have to pay attention. Speaker 1: Double trouble, that's what I way. Double trouble. Speaker 2: On the other hand, when they have companionship of their own species, they're more relaxed an

How to Speak in Front of a Big Crowd | Public Speaking

03:25
Watch more Public Speaking Training videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/505059-How-to-Speak-in-Front-of-a-Big-Crowd-Public-Speaking How do you speak in front of a big crowd? You're in front of five hundred, or a thousand, or three thousand people. How do you do it? Here's the secret: it's no different than speaking to one person. Now, I understand it feels different. It feels scary. But here's the secret great speakers have. It doesn't matter if you love Ronald Reagan as a speaker, or Bill Clinton, or Tony Blair. All different speakers, different styles, different politics, but here's one thing they have in common. When they're speaking or were speaking to ten thousand people, or speaking to two people, they sounded exactly the same. So, here's the big secret when it comes to talking to large audiences: don't change yourself. Because most of us, when we're speaking to one friend or two buddies at lunch, we're animated. We're engaging, we're telling stories, and we're giving examples. Our hands are moving. Our face is moving. We get in front of a large audience, and all the things we do that worked for us, all the things that were interesting that made us easy to listen to, we take that, we ball it up, and we throw it in the trash can. And we put on this fake persona, my fellow delegates it's an honor to be here today. We become stiff and we become wooden. Our voice goes flat. We tense up. We grab a lectern. All these things we do because we're scared. The problem is, as much as I love crutches, these crutches don't prop us up. They bring us down. They make us worse. So, you've got to simply tell yourself you're talking to one person. You've got to use that tone of voice. Because these days if you're speaking to a large room of people chances are you're going to have a microphone, so you don't have to speak like this because that's really annoying. You speak in a conversational tone of voice. Here's the other trick: your eye contact. What a lot of people do is they're like this the whole time. They may be moving, but they have this glazed look in their eye. You don't want to do that. Or, they just zoom in here, zoom in here, and here. It's too mechanical. What you want to do is just look at one spot. Ideally, if you can see people, look at one person for a full thought. That's only five seconds or so. Go to another person in a different part of the audience. Pretend you're having a one on one conversation with that person for a full thought. And mix it up. That will make it more relaxing for you. You'll sound like you're talking to one person. And it'll keep your head from bouncing around and looking nervous and scared. The other final tip is, it's one of those things, the more you do it the easier it gets. Seek out opportunities to speak in front of large groups. Don't be one of these people that says, well I could speak to one person, or I can speak to two people, or I can speak sitting in a boardroom, but I'm not a public speaker so I can't. Baloney. If you've ever had one interesting conversation with one person in your entire life you already have all the skills you need to be a great public speaker in front of ten thousand people.

How to Feed Your Family Healthy Meals on a Tight Budget

Watch more How to Manage Your Money videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/34675-How-to-Feed-Your-Family-Healthy-Meals-on-a-Tight-Budget Sure, junk food offers lots of calories for not much money. But you can create your own "happy" meals that are tasty, nutritious, and inexpensive. Step 1: Start with hot cereal Start the day with a hot cereal; they’re much cheaper than cold cereals. Oatmeal is a nutritional winner and very inexpensive if you buy a container of plain, old-fashioned oatmeal. Step 2: Stretch your milk Stretch your milk dollars by diluting a can of evaporated milk or some powdered milk with water to create whole milk. Step 3: Stock up on frozen veggies Stock up on frozen vegetables when they go on sale. Unless your produce was just picked, it’s just as healthy — or even more so — to eat the frozen stuff, which locks in the nutrients. Tip Canned vegetables are another cheap alternative to fresh, but rinse them before eating because many are loaded with salt. Step 4: Eat fruits in season Limit your fruit purchases to whatever is in season, the exception being bananas and apples. The former are relatively inexpensive year-round, and the latter are low in calories, high in fiber, and may reduce your risk of heart disease and cancer. Step 5: Snack happy Enjoy healthy snacks without spending a fortune by air popping corn kernels and buying nutritious nuts like almonds, walnuts, pecans, and peanuts. Buy in bulk. Step 6: Limit meat consumption Only eat meat two or three times a week, and make cheap meats as tender and tasty as pricier cuts by marinating them overnight or slow-cooking them in a Crock-Pot. Step 7: Eat alternative proteins Make the most of alternative sources of protein, like peanut butter, eggs, chunk light tuna (which is not only the cheapest kind of tuna, but also contains the least mercury), and beans. Tip Buy bagged beans in bulk -- the kind you soak overnight. They’re cheaper and healthier than canned beans, which are high in sodium. Step 8: Eat brown rice Eat brown rice. It’s a bit pricier than white, but much better for you and still a nutritional bargain. Step 9: Indulge in dessert Indulge in desserts by making them from scratch using nutritious ingredients that you have on hand. Bake your own oatmeal and peanut butter cookies; mash and freeze overripe bananas for "ice cream"; bake bruised apples with a little honey. Did You Know? As of 2007, 8.5% of the American household budget went to food eaten at home, down from 19% in 1960.

How to Turn a Pizza Box into a Solar Oven

Watch more Cooking Equipment videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/155609-How-to-Turn-a-Pizza-Box-into-a-Solar-Oven Save that last slice of pizza! You can reheat it in its own container, using the sun's power. Step 1: Draw a square Using the ruler and black marker, draw a square on your pizza-box lid, leaving a 1-inch border from the edge of the box to each side of the square. Step 2: Form the flap With the box cutter or utility knife, cut through three sides of the square you just drew, leaving the line at the rear of the box attached. Fold the flap back so that it stands up when the pizza-box lid is closed. Step 3: Cover the flap with foil Cover the underside of the flap with heavy-duty aluminum foil, which will reflect sunlight into the oven. Glue the foil to the flap, smooth out wrinkles, and cut off any excess. Step 4: Tape plastic sheet With the scissors, cut two square pieces of clear plastic wrap, each 1 square inch larger than the flap opening. Open the pizza box, and tape one piece of plastic to the underside of the hole so that the plastic covers it. Step 5: Tape second plastic sheet Close the lid, and tape the second plastic sheet over the top of the hole, creating a window that helps keep the sun’s heat in the box. Pull both sheets taut as you tape them. Tip Maintaining an airtight box is crucial in keeping the oven hot. Step 6: Layer the bottom with foil Glue or tape a layer of aluminum foil to the inside bottom of your pizza box for insulation. Step 7: Cover with black paper Cover the foil layer in the box with sheets of black construction paper and glue them into place. The black base will absorb light and generate more heat inside your oven. Step 8: Find best angle Close the lid, and you’re ready to start cooking! On a bright day, place your solar oven outside in direct sunlight. Adjust the foil flap to find the best ray-reflecting angle, and use the ruler, a stick, or a hard-plastic straw to keep the flap propped in place. Tip If you want to test the reflective angles of your oven before you head outside, shine a laser pointer onto the foil flap to simulate rays of sunlight. Step 9: Preheat Preheat your oven by leaving it in direct sunlight for 30 minutes. The box’s temperature will reach about 200 degrees, so while you won’t be able to cook a roast, you can reheat cooked food, melt cheese or chocolate, or—if you have all day—prepare a veggie stew. Step 10: Cook Whatever you decide to cook, place it—on its own, or in a heat-safe container—in the center of the oven, so that it is directly under the plastic-wrap window. Close the lid, leaving the flap propped open, and check on your food every 15 to 30 minutes. Did You Know? Earth receives more energy from the sun in one hour than our entire planet uses in a year.

5 Best Paintball Tips | Paintball

02:02
Watch more How to Play Paintball videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/497220-5-Best-Paintball-Tips-Paintball My name is Mike Peverill. I'm here at Pev's Paintball Park in Aldie, Virginia. I've been playing paintball nearly 30 years. I've played professional paintball with numerous pro teams all over the world. This facility here was built from the ground up for paintball, kind of like a paintball Disney Land. Our website is www.pevs.com. Hopefully you can come out and visit us sometime. A very popular question I get asked all the time is, ""Hey, I'm gonna go out and play paintball for the first time. You know, you've been playing for a long time. Give me your best tip."" And what I tell people, in all the years I've learned in playing paintball, professionally and on the circuit, and just for fun, is basically the first thing is always wear dark clothes. 'Cause when you're out there on a paintball field for fun, remember, the flashy orange colors, yellow colors, bright colors, even white sticks out, and makes yourself a target. I tell people to blend in. If you don't have camouflage clothing to wear, wear dark clothing. Wear long sleeves and long pants. And the other thing is, wear tennis shoes versus wearing boots. I see so many people come out wearing combat boots, and their feet start hurting them. Remember, think of paintball as a sport activity, not so much as real battle. So go plan to know that you're gonna be on your feet the whole time. And wear a good pair of comfortable tennis shoes or something of that nature. But wear dark colored shoes. I mean, even guys who come out wearing white tennis shoes, I mean, we look for those all the time. Guys run into the woods and say, "Hey, look at the guy's white shoes sticking out." So I tell everybody, the first thing you should always do is come out wearing dark clothes. The other thing is, when you're playing, play as a team. Find a buddy, get on the field, and remember, whatever you do, especially if it's your first time, don't run up the middle. Running up the middle allows yourself to be shot from both sides. A paintball field is like a chessboard. It's got boundaries. So it doesn't mean everyone can get around you, unless you go up the middle. So I tell everybody, get to the tape, work your way to the edge of the field. Work with a buddy team, so you can have some guy, someone to watch the inside, and someone to watch ahead of you, you know, you watch ahead of you, and you look both ways. But at the same time, cover the tapes and work yourself around. Most people always run into the middle. And when they run into the middle, they get shot from both angles.

Jungle Bob is here to show you that owning a pet reptile or amphibian is not as complicated as you might think. In this video, he shares three tips about caring for a Sulcata tortoise, also known as an African spurred tortoise and African spur thigh tortoise. Certainly, we get a lot of calls from people that want turtles or tortoises as pets. And we love turtles, but the reality of turtles is they swim in water and that's also where they do their business in the water. So, sometimes, it's not the most hygienic animal for families that have young children. We tend to move them towards tortoises, which are land creatures. And, often times, it's an easy decision to pick up an animal as cute as a baby Spur Thigh Tortoise. This is adorable because it's so cute and if you look at it closely, you're going to want to buy this because it's got a cute face, it eats grass, vegetables, fruits of that nature, and it's an easy purchase. Although you should buy an animal that's over four inches by law, often times, these animals are sold in pet stores to unsuspecting owners, who think either, A, he's going to stay in a small fish tank, therefore, he's going to stay small or, B, that he can't possibly get that big. Well, the reality is these tortoises grow fast. And though they're long-lived, it doesn't take more than five, ten years before you've got quite a nightmare on your hands. So, this can quickly turn into this. And this is something you really have to think twice about before owning. This is cute. This could be a nightmare. If you're an apartment dweller or living in the northern latitudes of the United States, where you can't let this thing out during the winter months, he's in your house, and it's the equivalent of owning a pony in your house. That's how much he eats and that's how much he's going to make his business. So, you've really got to think twice when you're buying something as small as this, as to what species is it. African Spur Thigh Tortoises, this is still a young one. He's going to get three to four times larger than this and live a century and a half. You have to will it to your great-grandchild the day you buy it. So, if that's your idea of a quality pet, go for it. Otherwise, look at the many other species of tortoises that are available that do stay a reasonable size. The Sulcata Tortoise is a magnificent animal, but I don't think it really makes the best pet.

Look for a stiff gait caused by rigor mortis, open wounds from decomposing flesh, and a hunger for human flesh. Step 2: Cover up Cover up to prevent potential zombie bites from turning you into one of them. Wear a mask with holes only for the eyes and mouth, long sleeves, gloves, close-toe shoes, and long pants tucked into your socks. You may look like a fashion victim, but you won't be a zombie victim. Step 3: Amass weapons Find a weapon to use in case you encounter a zombie. Grab a blunt object capable of bashing in undead heads or something to pierce the zombies' skulls -- even reanimated corpses can't survive severe brain injuries. Tip Don't try to reason with zombies -- their brain functions are limited to walking, moaning, and feasting on the living. Step 4: Head indoors Find a secure place to hide. Make sure it's located as far as possible from any graveyards and stocked with canned goods, bottled water, and projectile-firing weapons. Barricade the doors and windows to ensure your survival. Step 5: Fight back Hide out long enough to overcome your fear; then, attack back! Use human-scented objects to lure the zombies to low-lying areas; once they're contained, blast their brains from afar. Continue trapping and killing until all the zombies are dead, and it's eerily quiet enough for you to hear your still-beating heart. Did You Know? A traditional zombie cocktail is made with sugar, fruit juice, and 4 kinds of rum.

Victor: And I'm Victor Sho. LaShonna: And today we are going to learn how to Dougie. So we're going to teach you how to Dougie. This is a very popular dance that everyone's doing nowadays. And it's simple but it's just getting into the groove of it. I's pretty much a two step, with an up and down motion adding your arms. So let's just start with a two step. And the we're going to add on another layer, and then another layer, until you're doing the Dougie. You ready? So we're going to start stepping. Out together. Out together. Out together. Out together. If you're doing that you're good. From here we're going to add an up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, if you're doing that you're really doing good. Now what we're going to do here is add a head motion that goes with it. So every time you go to the side you go up and over with it. Think of pointing your head, in that direction. Up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down. Now we're going to add a different rhythm, single, single, double. And single, single, double, with the feet, we go single, single, double, and single, single, double. That's an up, down, up, down, up, down, double time. Up, down, up, down, up, down, double time. If you have this rhythm that's the basics of the Dougie. Now we're going to add some arms to it. So when you're doing the arms for the Dougie, when you step out the opposite arm is going to roll in. Up, down, up, down, up, down. Up, down, up, down, up, down. Make sure that your body's going up and down. Now from here let's add our single, single, double. Here we go, we have single, single, double. And single, single, double. And single, single, double. And single, single, double. And you can Dougie with a partner, and make it even more fun. Here we go. Single, single, double. And single, single, double. Single, single, double. And single, single, double... And that's the Dougie.

Now I'm going to do a Knee Bar from a couple different positions. A Knee Bar is like, as its a bar, it's just like an Arm Bar in that you have to squeeze your legs. All right? So, I'm going to try to pass the guard. I cup underneath his knee and I'm going to spin around this way. Now, my butt is very close, I hug, toe should be here, patella towards the knee, hug this way, if he doesn't tap bring him under, finish him this way. Okay. One more. Here, trying to pass, sit tight. Sit very tight here. Fall, if you can tap him. See how his patella is right to my body? Boom, here, underneath your arm. Boom. Okay. Another entry. One I like a lot, okay, is I'm in the guard, okay, get my butt off my guard. I elevate him, right? Hook. Lean my leg around here. Lock. Right here, and here. Okay? Another tricky entry with a Knee Bar is after a Sweep or a Guard Pass. Right? So here, I'm diving in the half guard and I roll him over, and what I do is I hook my foot under here, cross my feet, and drag my hips. So those are some interesting and very effective Knee Bar entries. The last Knee Bar I want to show you, okay, is a little show-offy but, okay we're here, boom, right now. Okay, what I'm going to do is I'm going to reverse mount him here and hug. And I go for both. Now I'm not going to kill both of his legs. He's going to be too strong. But I just shift one. Here, and again, bring it underneath my arm, here. Okay. So those are some nice Knee Bar entries. All right?

I'm going to talk to you today about the three principles to opening strategy. So when we get to the game we're always like, 'Uh, what do I do? There's so many pieces. I don't know how to start." Well I'm going to give you three steps that are going to help you create a strong, confident opening. First thing that we need to understand is these four center squares. These are considered a super square because this is where the center of the board is, the control center. For example, if I have my knight in the center of the board, my knight can control up to eight different squares, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. We can see that this is a very strong place for my knight. If I have my knight on the side of the board it can only control up to four squares, 1, 2, 3, 4. Therefore, my knight is stronger in the center whereas most pieces are stronger in the center of the board. So at the beginning of the game you want to think about center control. First thing we can try and do is get our pawns into the center. Very important to try to get our pawns to control the center. The next important step that we want to focus on is piece development. Now I like to think about my pieces as they are working for me. I want to give my pieces a job. If they're sitting back here they're not happy and they're not doing anything. So my next step is to bring my pieces out and have them working for me. Usually we bring out the knights before the bishops. So I can bring my knight to F-3 and my other knight to C-3 and then I'm bringing them towards the center. Notice how I did not bring my knight to H-3, that would not be a good choice. Towards the center. Next, I want to bring my bishops out, again towards the center controlling the center squares. The next step that we always want to consider is king safety, very important. I like to consider the king like a baby. The reason I consider the king a baby is because we always want to protect our babies just like we always want to protect our king. Therefore, the best way to protect your king at the beginning of the game is to castle. Now we have two places, two ways that we can castle. You can either castle on the king's side or on the queen's side. Right away I can see that I can castle on the king's side. To castle I move my king two spaces and then bring my rook to the other side and now my king is stuck behind a little fortress or, to keep with the theme of a baby, a crib and it is protected and safe. Just to review, the three important principles are controlling the center, piece development, and king safety. Those are the three things that we can do at the beginning of the game to go into the middle game confidently.

It requires the hammer lock, and to be able to change places when we're not facing each other. Give her the hammer lock step. This is where it gets complicated. First of all, I need to go under her right hand. I step forward. Now, from here we need to rearrange. I need to change places with her. In order to do that, I need to bring this hand down, and this one up. I have to do it at the same time, and slowly, so that I won't hurt my partner. Then, I can get myself out. Again, we find each other in a hammer lock position, and turn her out. Raise my hand, turn her around to hammer lock, walking under her arm, change hands from up to down, get myself out, and turn her. A little faster. You have walk, under, out. Let's try it with some music. Take all the time you need to do this step. And that's our Colocho step.

And then they forget to play with the cat. Well, it's actually really important because while cats do spend a significant portion of their day grooming themselves and sleeping, they are actually very active little creatures. They fluff to thier own devices. Left in an apartment with nothing to do, they can get into all sorts of trouble. So it's really important to find some toys your cat likes. I put some toys out here by Friah, but you can see she's much more interested in being petted right now than playing with them. The things to look at are, little robotic toys only with supervision. This is a hex bug and you can flip the button on it, turn it on and it'll vibrate and it'll move in all different directions simulating how a bug might move. This can be really fun for cats and it doesn't require you to do a lot of interaction, which is nice for busy people. Other toys that allow the cat to play by themselves are food dispensing toys like this one. All you do is you put little dry food pieces or treats in here and let your cat move it around in order for pieces to fall out. In fact, if you feed your cat dry toys, you should them out of food dispensing toys all of the time. Another fun thing to do with cats to keep them active is actually to train them. And one of the most fun ways to train a cat is to use Clicker Training. This is the book I recommend most often for my cat's owners that are trying to train their cats. It allows them to go through flash cards style and teach all sorts fun tricks. Everything from sit, to shake, to jump in a box, and basically the options are limitless. The more you do short, interactive sessions with your cat, the happier they're going to be. So make sure to play with your cat at least five to ten minutes everyday and that's how you keep a cat occupied.

How to Overcome Driving Fear | Driving Lessons

01:44
Watch more How to Drive videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/500666-How-to-Overcome-Driving-Fear-Driving-Lessons Today we want to talk about how to overcome fear in driving. Fear basically comes from the unknown, and it's very common in pretty much anybody who drives a car for the first time. So how do we take some of that fear out of driving? One way might be to go to a driving school. The first time you drive a car be in a situation where someone is sitting next to you with the ability to stop the car just in case something goes wrong. Driving school cars are equipped with dual brakes, so the instructor can stop you just in case anything goes wrong. One way to overcome the fear exactly would be to do that. The second way might be, if you're not going to go to a driving school, the first time you drive a car you might want to be off the road. Maybe you want to be in a parking lot or a situation like that, so that you can become familiar with the accelerator and the brake and getting the understanding of the feel of the vehicle without being on the roadway in a situation where you might do damage to the vehicle and you have other things around you which make driving more hazardous. The more you drive, the better you're going to get at it, and that fear is going to start to go away. You'll see that the second time in the car, the third time and the fourth time, you'll feel much calmer. A lot of those nerves will go away, because you'll understand that this isn't so bad. I can control the car. Then the fear will go away from you, and the more you drive, the better you will get t it. A lot of that fear will leave you, and then you'll be able to accomplish some great things in learning how to drive a car safely.

How to Have Proper Running Form | Running

03:41
Watch more How to Run videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/506904-How-to-Have-Proper-Running-Form-Running So we talk about correct running form. That word can really be thrown around, I'm not sure there really is correct running form, but there is running form that could make your run a lot more comfortable. Starting from head to toe, when you're running, you want to keep your chin down a little bit, you almost want to fell like you're, there's a thread at the top of your head, pulling you up. You don't want your chin too down, because you'll actually close off your airway a little bit. And you don't want your chin too far up, because you're not really sure where all that energy's going, and you can feel that tension in your neck start to happen when you do raise your chin a little bit. So try to keep your head level a little bit. Notice where you're holding tension. Slowly, through a long run, you can start to feel your shoulders creep up a little bit, and you can feel that tension in your shoulders and your neck. So if you relax a little bit, it can also help you reduce the amount of energy that you're using for your run. Now what you want to do with your arms, hold your elbows at about a ninety degree angle, and hold a very small fist, almost having your fingertips just touching the palm of your hand, and just relax your hands. And throughout your run, when you start to feel tension building up, just shake your arms out a little bit and relax your shoulder. Hold your torso up, straight. Engage your core so that you're holding up a good posture when you're moving forward. Don't lean forward, at your waist, just kind of gradually from your ankles all the way up to your shoulders, lean forward a little bit. So with your feet, when you're landing on the ground, you want to land on the ground right in the midfoot to the balls of your feet. Sometimes when you land on your heels, you're actually landing too far ahead of your body, so what happens is when your bodyweight hits the ground, you're creating this shock that's going all the way up through your ankles, your knees, and your hips. Again, over time that can cause a lot of discomfort and possibly an injury. So again, try to think about having your foot land right underneath your bodyweight, and with your hips, make sure your hips are forward, and make sure your hips are stable. One great thing about doing core exercises for running is that it keeps your entire core area stable while you're running. Sometimes when you're out running you might see people whose hips dip a little bit with each run. That can also cause injury down the road, so try to keep those stable, keep your hips stable, keep your hips pointed down, but you also don't want them pointed up too much. Just go in the direction that you're running. And when you're running and swinging your arms, swinging your arms forward but being careful not to swing your arms across your midline. What that does is that it almost throws off your balance a little bit. Keep your arms moving forward and again, keep your arms relaxed, keep your hands relaxed, but again try not to go across your midline too much. Just keep them back and forth. Let your arms do what they want to do, but keep them controlled just a little bit. Just try to stay in tune with your body, and just check in every once in a while and notice where you're holding tension. Starting a running program can be hard enough as it is, but when you start to notice how much tension you're holding it can take more energy away then you actually realize, and as you start to build up in your runs, maybe working towards that ten mile race, or working towards that half marathon, it can deplete a lot of energy that you're working so hard to get through the race for. Just try to relax, try to relax and have fun.

Now I know that you said that they're skittish and they're afraid of quick actions and stuff, but I'm a hands on bunny. I give my rabbit massages everyday. So tell me what's the good kind of massage. They like their head and cheeks massaged right? Why is that? Mary Cotter: They do. Well, when rabbits groom each other. . . The way I learned rabbit massage is not from a human. I learned it from watching rabbits, the way they interact with each other. They will lie next to each other and reach over and they'll kind of mouth or pluck the hair right between the eyes. Look at this rabbit's eyes are closing. Amy: Yeah, they love it. Mary: Yeah, they really, really enjoy that. It feels like another rabbit. And around the base of the ears, they love to be massaged around the base of the ears. Amy: And they like the tips of their ears kissed. Mary: Yeah, it's as if you're licking their ears almost, which we do but we don't often confess to. But anyway, rabbits love to be touched around the ears and head very, very gently. Amy also does. . . Her rabbit is a senior rabbit, a 12 year old rabbit, so she has learned to help that rabbit's arthritis by giving really gentle massage all the way down the spine and her rabbit just melts when she does it. Amy: Yeah, you just kind of find the spine here and you just kind of. . . Well you taught me just to kind of rub the fingertips on one side of the spine, the other side of the spine. It really puts her just to sleep. She likes this area rubbed a little bit. She'll start licking the floor when I do that. Mary: She's licking the floor because your hand isn't available. That's the thing, you can a rabbit reflexively licking. Rabbits want to groom you back. Amy: Yeah, she does. Mary: So if you're massaging a rabbit and they're really enjoying it they'll start, they'll lick anything available. If your hand isn't available it could be the floor that they're licking. This one's really enjoying this too. Amy: Yeah, they just love it. Mary: And a lot of people are interested in T-touch, which is great to learn. Amy: What's T-touch mean? Mary: Tellington touch. It's a way of doing massage that involves small circular motions in particular body areas. Amy: Oh, right, right. Mary: And you could do that. Do you need to do it? No, you don't need to do it. You'll find ways with your own rabbit, especially with your own rabbit where you know their reactions very well, that they enjoy and that are comfortable for them. But if you want to go an additional step and learn T-touch that's great too. Amy: A little tugging on the ear. One thing you don't want to do, I don't know if this is about something else, but we'll probably do it with rabbit handling. You don't want to pick a rabbit. . . I've seen people try to grab around here and try to lift it. Mary: Absolutely not. Amy: But just you'll know if you're doing the right thing by their expression. I don't know about bellies. My rabbit likes the side of her, like right here, rubbed. Mary: Yeah, I want to show you about belly massages. Amy: Oh yeah, let's see that. Mary: One time we use belly massage, if a rabbit is having gastrointestinal pain, which can happen when they eat a weird combination of foods and vegetables and they get gas pains just like babies do, but they don't cry like babies. Instead, they kind of hunker down and they look like they're hurting. Amy: It's like they're trying to smash their belly on the floor. Mary: Yeah, they could do what's called belly pressing. They can just repeatedly push their belly against the floor. Amy: To try to work the bubble out. Mary: To try to get the gas out, yeah. And so one thing you can do is belly massage. I will show you with this bunny. She's never had belly massage before. So we'll take her out of this. Amy: Oh, she's going to be in heaven. Mary:

Whenever I think of pinched harmonics the first person I think of is Billy Gibbons the guitarist for ZZ Top. A lot of other great players have made nice use of pinched harmonics as well. One of the things to keep in mind is that there are harmonics five, seven, and twelve frets away from every note as well as in other positions. For more details, I did do another Howcast lesson on harmonics, so you should check that out. Let's look at the position of the second fret, F sharp minor. My clearest harmonics here are twelve frets away. That's the fourteenth fret. So, just for demonstration, I'm going to use my first finger and I'm going to pick each harmonic. If I were to tap those it would sound like this. Okay. So, these aren't good for pinched harmonics because it's very hard to pick up here. What I want to do is go twelve frets higher, right. One two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve. Now, here I start to run out of room. So, I have to use the pick-up or the body of the guitar to memorize where I am. Now, using pinching technique I can find the harmonics. So, I'm just picking the note. As I pick the note my thumb is supposed to go over the harmonic. Now, I have to find this. No. There we go. Okay. So this is easy to remember because on this guitar it's pretty much right in the line of the pick-up. On another guitar it might be above the screw of the pick-up, and it's going to be in a different place for each key. A big part of this is memorizing where the harmonics are on the guitar. But since I know where the main harmonic is for F sharp I can figure out where the rest of the notes are. Alright, it's rough, but basically that's this pentatonic and harmonics. When playing pinched harmonics it really helps to be on the treble pick-up. It helps to have a lot of distortion, too. I can continue through the scale and play harmonics. Okay. Having mapped out the harmonics I can now play some licks and just throw in pinched harmonics here and there. Check it out. So, with pinched harmonics you sort of have to guess where they are. You're not going to nail them every time, but when you do nail them they sound cool. I hope you've enjoyed this lesson on pinched harmonics.

I'm Trudi Tapscott. Britt: And I'm Britt Bergmeister. Trudi: In order to get a modeling job, you need to go on a modeling casting and you need to go on an audition. What happens there? Britt: I mean, generally you go and meet the clients. Sometimes there will be a few girls there. Sometimes the wait will be five minutes. Sometimes there will be over 200 girls and the wait will be two, three hours. You've got to be open and you can't get frustrated. Bring a book. You're going to be waiting a long time. Bring water, bring snacks. Don't get frustrated. It'll come across when you meet the client, so just be happy. Be thankful that you have the opportunity to get a job and just show your happy, confident personality. Trudi: What happens? They ask you for your book or your first...? Britt: Generally, you'll walk in. They'll ask for your book and you hand them your book, maybe a comp card, and sometimes you'll have to take a picture or two just so they can remember how you were that day. Sometimes you'll have to introduce yourself to a video camera, and sometimes you'll have to walk. That's a big thing. You'll definitely have to walk. So, it depends on the client and what you're casting for, but generally they'll let you know. Just be prepared. Have your high-heel shoes. Have something that will show off your body. I usually wear black, something black and tight. So, yeah. That's generally what happens. Trudi: That's generally how it goes. Sometimes you're meeting one person. Sometimes you're meeting five. You walk into a table of five people. Britt: Yeah. Trudi: Sometimes everyone is in the same room. Sometimes you go in a separate room. I think that if the casting people have more than one person there, sometimes they talk amongst themselves or they talk about the pictures in your book. They ask you, "Who shot this?" or, "Who's the photographer?" It's really good for you to remember the names of the photographers that you shot with if they say, "Who shot this picture?" So, that information is good because if you don't know that answer then it doesn't make you look like the smartest model. Britt: Right. Trudi: So, you want to be able to know the information that they might ask in your book or, "Where did you shoot it?" Or, "When did you shoot it?" They're trying to get a conversation going, but there's not many questions they can ask you when they don't know you. They just want to kind of know things about your book. Then they might say things between themselves that are related to the job that might not make any sense to you and that might not have anything to do with you. So, you can't really let that effect you. It's not about how quickly they look through your book. They're fast. Especially in New York and Paris, and Milan, it's fast. They don't have a lot of time. Britt: Yeah. Trudi: So, the decision is made after. You're never going to know right then anyway, so it really doesn't matter. You just have to do the best you can, assume you're getting the job and walk out. That's pretty much what happens. Britt: They might not show any emotion at all. You can't take that as a no. They could be happy, they could be sad that day. They could be really annoyed. But just go in confidently and, hopefully, you'll get the job. Trudi: It's not your job to read them. Britt: No. Trudi: It's their job to read you. Britt: Exactly. Trudi: So, that's how it works.

Today we're talking about speed training drill for sprinters. There are a wide array of drills sprinters do, depending on their level of expertise and the events that they're running. But there are 3 basic ones that mostly every sprinter does. The high knee, the butt kick, and the major A. Running drills are basically designer to exaggerate certain portions of your running stride. So to maintaining proper form and that you’re getting the maximum amount of each step. The high knee is essentially exactly how it sounds. You run to in a slow progression, raise your knee up to a 90 degree angle in relation to your hip and the ground, and then bring it back down to alternate. There are different methods of doing it, some folks say each leg, sometimes you do it every other stride, there are a wide array of doing this particular drill but overall it will help you get your knee up for and get you up higher to increase your stride overall. The butt kick again, is exactly what it sounds like when your literally kicking yourself in the butt. As your slowly progressing down the track with your knee pointed to the floor, you want your heel to come as close to your behind as possible in quick succession. What this does is it helps exaggerate the motion of your leg coming back to its ready position from behind you. A lot of times you'll see sprinters and their biggest issue is their leg trails off behind them, it takes a long time for them to get their turnover back again. Lastly you have the major A which is an elongated skip designed for you to maximize your stride length while still making sure that your feet fall directly under your hip. Which is very, very important again? Over striding will have your foot land in front of you can actually slow your speed down and result I injury. And those are 3 speed training drills for sprinters.

All of these terms pretty much mean the same thing, you're gonna be doing the front crawl like you usually do but this time when your doing your front crawl your going to keep your face outside the water with your chin close to the water, right on top of the water as your doing the crawl. As your swimming the freestyle keep your face outside the water, keeping your eyes focused on one target. Avoid moving your head from side to side when your swimming the Tarzan or the lifeguard approach stroke. By keeping your head and your face outside the water and your chin in the water, your able to breathe and keep an eye out on whats going on outside the water for orientation if your an outdoor swimmer or if your saving a life like a lifeguard would. That's how you swim with your face outside the water doing the front crawl.

How to Draw a Monster | Graffiti Art

Watch more How to Do Graffiti Art videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/512058-How-to-Draw-a-Monster-Graffiti-Art Hi, I'm Paes 164. Now I am going to show you how to do a character. Once again, getting your base wall color down, I feel that black is a great color to start a character with, that way you kind of build up off your shadows. So I'm just going to do a little goofy little monster, something I might typically replace my E of my graffiti piece, so it'd be P-A, graffiti monster, S still representing my E. Let's go ahead and start off with the base shape of the monster and I'm going to use the same color that I'm going to paint my monster, a blue monster in for my sketching. Having that black as a background, as a base definitely eliminates spending a lot of time having to shade in all that black. You can just come in and see what I'm doing. I'm kind of just building this blue into the black and only as my base color. Doing some of the same flair techniques, as I've shown in the other videos. Kind of working my way all the way around the lip with this blue. Again, whether realistic or cartoonish the black really serves as a good base to fade into. I also came in with a little bit of a darker blue, but you can still see how I'm utilizing that black to build my shades up off of. I got these big bubbly eyes popping up. I'm going to go ahead and re-outline them white and color them in. Getting into your character it's definitely better to use thinner tips and outline tips. Like the graffiti piece itself where you're building up from a primer and building into it with the cuts and the fades and everything we talked about. Now I'm going to come in and also add a little bit of the background. Kind of the same type of landscape background that we worked on in other pieces, just by fading in my darker color purple. I'm using a little bit of a fatter tip. That way you get a nice fade easy. Right now, I'm going through and just getting all my outline done, some areas doing some thicker lines. I'm getting this setup for all the highlights I'll be doing in my green. All right, I'm working my way through this character looking pretty shabby-shabby. I'm just going to take a little bit of this green, something that's going to compliment the blue, do a couple of highlights and you know just have a lot of fun. Whenever you do do characters, like I said, it's just kind of a format on how to break it down. Whether it is realistic or cartoonish just get your base color down, get a good background color going. Use the right type of tips and just break it down and format it right back out. This green is really going to set it off.

Feeling like a Pawn? A lot of teachers use, what is called the ten golden moves, or sometimes it's also know as the bull's head, let me demonstrate. White brings up a pawn to the center, his goal is then to bring up the other pawn to the center. The two pawns in the center are what is known as a duo, it's a very valuable thing to have, it acts as a shield and you can develop your pieces around and behind it. You can develop one knight here to f3, the other knight goes to c3, this is four golden moves. White brings up a bishop, five golden moves, brings up the other bishop, six golden moves. The king castles gets to safety, seven golden moves, brings up the queen to get out-of-the-way of the rooks, eight golden moves. Nine and ten, the rooks come to the middle of the board and these are the ten golden moves. It's also known as the bull's head, the two center pawns are supposed to represent the forehead of the bull, the bishops are like it's horns and the rest of the pieces behind the two center pawns are like the body of the bull. And this whole unit is ready to go and start marching down the board and go get the black king. These are known as the ten golden rules, you might not be able to get your pieces on to these exact squares every time yourself, in fact it's your opponents job to try to stop you from being able to do that. But this is the sort of thing you're trying to do with your pieces in the opening.

How to Know When It’s Time to Quit Your Job

Watch more Raises & Career Advancement videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/81251-How-to-Know-When-Its-Time-to-Quit-Your-Job Are you ready for a job change, or should you stick it out in your current position? Asking yourself these questions will help you decide. Step 1: Note how you feel Note how you feel on Monday morning. Are you sick to your stomach at the thought that there are five days between you and another weekend? Not good. Tip If anxiety starts to set it on Sunday, that’s a bad sign. Step 2: Consider your workload Think about your workload. Has it recently doubled—or halved? Either scenario is a valid reason to be unhappy. Step 3: Weigh pros and cons Draw up a list of the job’s pros and cons. Do the cons outnumber the pros? Are the cons more troubling than the pros are enticing? Note: 'free coffee' doesn’t count as a pro. Step 4: Assess your value Assess your value to the company. Do you feel you’re being paid what you’re worth? Is your boss appreciative of your efforts? If the answer is 'no' to both, it’s time to go. Tip Unless there is a company-wide salary freeze at your firm, not getting a raise at your last performance review is a sign that you’re not valued. Step 5: Weigh your options Weigh your options. If you quit, could you afford to live without a salary for a while? The average job hunt takes six months—more, if you’re earning over $60,000. Tip Employment experts say job seekers must figure on one month of searching for every $10,000 they earn. Step 6: Rate the difficulty Be honest: could a trained seal do your job? Then you’re ready for a challenge. Step 7: Measure your crap threshold Measure your threshold for taking crap. Is it lowering? Are you on the verge of telling your boss at the morning meeting, 'By the way, nobody really wants to hear about your weekend potty-training the puppy—let’s get this show on the road.' Ta-ta and good luck. Did You Know? More than three-quarters of survey respondents said they're suffering from burnout at work, and more than half claimed they're under a lot of on-the-job stress.

Watch more First Aid: When Nature Attacks videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/20385-How-to-Treat-a-Sunburn Did all that fun in the sun end with a nasty burn? Let’s get you some relief. Step 1: Cool off your skin Cool off your skin with a cool bath or cool, wet compresses. If you opt for the bath, add a half cup of baking soda or several cups of colloidal oatmeal (available at drugstores). Soak for 10 minutes. Repeat as often as needed. Step 2: Apply something soothing Apply something soothing, like aloe vera from a plant or lotion, or 1% hydrocortisone cream. Tip Do not use petroleum-based products or products with benzocaine; they’ll just lock in the heat. Step 3: Take an aspirin If you’re an adult, take an aspirin; its anti-inflammatory properties will help relieve the pain. Tip Never give aspirin to children under 16; give them acetaminophen or ibuprofen instead. Step 4: Let your skin heal Let your skin heal. If blisters form, leave them alone; if they break, use an antibiotic ointment. Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do about peeling—but a moisturizing lotion can ease any itching. Step 5: Buy a good sunscreen Buy a good sunscreen and a big sunhat so you don’t get burned again. And stay out of the sun until your burn has healed! Did You Know? It’s easier to get sunburned at high altitudes because you’re less protected by the atmosphere—for every 1,000 feet you go up, your exposure to UV rays increases 4%.
