Woodward fieser rule in just five minutes: Part I

04:33
Woodward's rules, named after Robert Burns Woodward and also known as Woodward–Fieser rules (for Louis Fieser) are several sets of empirically derived rules which attempt to predict the wavelength of the absorption maximum (λmax) in an ultraviolet–visible spectrum of a given compound. Inputs used in the calculation are the type of chromophores present, the substituents on the chromophores, and shifts due to the solvent. Examples are conjugated carbonyl compounds, conjugated dienes, and polyenes. Music: https://www.bensound.com

Problems and Remedies for Tablet Coating in Just 5 Minutes

04:23
Understand Problems and Remedies for Tablet Coating Blistering , Chipping , Cratering, Picking, Pitting , Blooming, Blushing, Colour variation, Infilling, Orange peel/Roughness, Splitting . Chipping Definition: It is defect where the film becomes chipped and dented, usually at the edges of the tablet. Reason: Decrease in fluidizing air or speed of rotation of the drum in pan coating. CAUSE: High degree of attrition associated with the coating process. REMEDY: Increase hardness of the film by increasing the molecular weight grade of polymer. Sticking / Picking Definition: It is defect where isolated areas of film are pulled away from the surface when the tablet sticks together and then part. Reason: Conditions similar to cratering that produces an overly wet tablet bed where adjacent tablets can stick together and then break apart. CAUSE: Inefficient drying. Higher rate of application of coating solution REMEDY: Use optimum and efficient drying conditions or increase the inlet air temperature. Decrease the rater of application of coating solution by increasing viscosity of coating solution. Blistering Definition: It is local detachment of film from the substrate forming blister. Reason: Entrapment of gases in or underneath the film due to overheating either during spraying or at the end of the coating run. CAUSE: Effect of temperature on the strength, elasticity and adhesion of the film. REMEDY: Use mild drying condition. Cracking/Splitting Definition: It is defect in which the film either cracks across the crown of the tablet (cracking) or splits around the edges of the tablet (Splitting) Reason: Internal stress in the film exceeds tensile strength of the film. CAUSE: Use of higher molecular weight polymers or polymeric blends. REMEDY Use lower molecular weight polymers or polymeric blends. Also adjust plasticizer type and concentration. Cratering Definition: It is defect of film coating whereby volcanic-like craters appears exposing the tablet surface. Reason: The coating solution penetrates the surface of the tablet, often at the crown where the surface is more porous, causing localized disintegration of the core and disruption of the coating. CAUSES: Inefficient drying. Higher rate of application of coating solution. REMEDIES: Use efficient and optimum drying conditions. Increase viscosity of coating solution to decrease spray application rate. Blooming Definition: It is defect where coating becomes dull immediately or after prolonged storage at high temperatures. Reason: It is due to collection on the surface of low molecular weight ingredients included in the coating formulation. In most circumstances the ingredient will be plasticizer. CAUSE: High concentration and low molecular weight of plasticizer. REMEDY: Decrease plasticizer concentration and increase molecular weight of plasticizer. Pitting Definition: It is defect whereby pits occur in the surface of a tablet core without any visible disruption of the film coating. Reason: Temperature of the tablet core is greater than the melting point of the materials used in the tablet formulation. CAUSE Inappropriate drying (inlet air ) temperature REMEDY Dispensing with preheating procedures at the initiation of coating and modifying the drying (inlet air) temperature such that the temperature of the tablet core is not greater than the melting point of the batch of additives used. Colour variation Definition: A defect which involves variation in colour of the film. Reason: Alteration of the frequency and duration of appearance of tablets in the spray zone or the size/shape of the spray zone. CAUSE Improper mixing, uneven spray pattern, insufficient coating, migration of soluble dyes-plasticizers and other additives during drying. REMEDY Go for geometric mixing, reformulation with different plasticizers and additives or use mild drying conditions. Orange peel/Roughness Definition: It is surface defect resulting in the film being rough and nonglossy. Appearance is similar to that of an orange. Reason: Inadequate spreading of the coating solution before drying. CAUSES: Rapid Drying High solution viscosity REMEDIES: Use mild drying conditions Use additional solvents to decrease viscosity of solution. Bridging This occurs when the coating fills in the lettering logo on the tablet Cause: High spray rate, High viscosity of solution High percentage solids in the solution Improper atomization pressure Cause: Reduce spray rate, Reduce viscosity of solution Reduce percentage solids in the solution Use proper atomization pressure Subscribe the channel “PHARMA DIGEST.” Please share and like Video Music: https://www.bensound.com

Cholesterol Lowering Foods In Just Five Minutes

04:09
Understand healthy foods which lower your cholesterol; in just five minutes The National Institute of Nutrition recommends that every individual should consume at least 300 gms of vegetables (50 gms of green leafy vegetable, 200 gms of other vegetables and 50 gms of root vegetables) and 100 gms of fruit daily. • Low-density lipoproteins (LDLs) carry cholesterol to the tissues. This is "bad" cholesterol, since high LDL levels are linked to increased risk for heart disease. • High-density lipoproteins (HDLs) carry excess cholesterol back to the liver, which processes and excretes the cholesterol. HDLs are "good" cholesterol: The more HDL you have, the lower your risk for developing heart disease. Apple cider vinegar, Studies shown that apple cider vinegar when consumed with water showed a reduction in LDL (bad) cholesterol and an increase in HDL (good) cholesterol. Avocados: It contain significant amounts of good fats and fibre that helps boost good cholesterol and lower bad Beans and legumes like Bengal Gram (Chana), Kidney beans (Rajma) and Chick peas(kabuli chana), are rich in dietary fibre which help lower cholesterol levels and prevent blood sugar levels from rising too rapidly after a meal. Brown rice: being unpolished, retains most of its fibre and nutrient content that are otherwise removed from refined, white or polished rice. This high fibre content helps lower blood sugar and cholesterol. Broccoli The fibre in broccoli lowers cholesterol by binding with bile acids in the digestive tract and excreting it out of the body. Cinnamon, reduce blood sugar levels, triglycerides, LDL (bad) cholesterol, and total cholesterol levels in people with type 2 diabetes. Cluster beans: It is rich in dietary fibre (guar gum) which is beneficial in lowering cholesterol levels. Fenugreek seeds (methi), lower total cholesterol, LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglyceride levels in blood. Fatty fish like salmon, tuna, mackerel, and sardines are a rich source of Omega 3 fatty acids and proteins. fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids reduces triglyceride levels, increases levels of high-density lipoproteins (HDL), and therefore reduces the risk of heart disease. Garlic contains allicin which has shown to lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides. Ginger reduces cholesterol, triglyceride and blood sugar levels. It also raises HDL (good) cholesterol and helps improve blood circulation by reducing the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Green tea contains catechin polyphenols which are known to provide protective effects on the heart. Studies have shown that drinking green tea lowers total and LDL (bad) cholesterol but has no effect on HDL cholesterol and triglycerides. Ispaghula husk (psyllium) contains high levels of soluble fibre and is considered to be an adjunct to statins in lowering blood cholesterol levels. Lemons: Lemons contain limonoids, which has shown to reduce the production of apo B, a substance associated with higher cholesterol levels. Flavonoids, have potential antioxidant properties which reduce the oxidation of LDL (bad) cholesterol. Nuts and seeds - Walnuts, Almonds, Chia seeds, Sunflower seeds and Flax seeds (Alsi) provide considerable amounts of healthy fats (omega -3 fatty acids), fibre, and other heart friendly nutrients, which have shown to help reduce the risk of heart disease. Oatmeal and Oatbran, contains soluble fibre called beta-glucan can reduce total cholesterol. Music: https://www.bensound.com

Why World Student’s Day is celebrated on APJ Abdul Kalam’s birth anniversary?

02:09
Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam better known as A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, was the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. The most loved President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam was a scientist who made India proud with his missile defense programme. But his favourite job was teaching and that’s how he wanted the world to remember him. Dr APJ Abdul Kalam was an inspirational institution-builder and a team leader who always wanted India to become a self-sustained nation. He made no compromise on his penchant for teaching even after becoming the President. Wherever he went, he grabbed every opportunity to teach students, especially little children as he was a firm believer of children being the building blocks of a great nation. Due to his love for students and focus on promoting education, the United Nations declared his birthday (October 15) as ‘World Student’s Day’ in 2010. World Students' Day is celebrated on 15 October every year on the occasion of birth anniversary of A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. Causes of Sensitive Teeth

05:06
Sometimes cold, hot, sweet or sour foods may trigger a sharp, sudden pain that shoots deep into the nerve endings of your teeth. This discomfort is known as tooth sensitivity. Tooth is primarily made up of a material called dentin, which contains microscopic tubules filled with tiny nerve endings. A hard outer layer of enamel protects the dentin within the crown portion of your tooth, and the dentin extending down to the root of your tooth is protected by a layer of cementum. According to the American Dental Association (ADA) Mouth Healthy site, dentin hypersensitivity or nerve irritation occurs whenever dentin loses its protective covering of enamel or cementum, exposing the nerve endings to hot, cold, acidic or sticky foods. Ouch! Causes of Sensitive Teeth Sensitive teeth can be caused by the following dental issues: • Hard toothbrush and using a hard grip while brushing aggressively. You brush with too much gusto. Sometimes tooth sensitivity comes from brushing with too much force or using a hard-bristled toothbrush. • Tooth erosion due to highly acidic foods and beverages. • Even though tooth enamel is the strongest substance in your body, grinding your teeth can wear down the enamel. • Many manufacturers add tooth-whitening chemicals to their toothpaste formulas, and some people are more sensitive to them than others. • Over-the-counter mouthwashes and rinses contain alcohol and other chemicals that can make your teeth more sensitive • Receding gums, which are increasingly common with age, can cause tooth sensitivity. • An excessive buildup of plaque can cause tooth enamel to wear away. Again, your teeth can become more sensitive as they lose protection provided by the enamel. • Post dental treatment sensitivity common, but temporary, especially with procedures such as crowns, fillings and tooth bleaching. • A chipped or cracked tooth can cause pain that goes beyond tooth sensitivity. • fillings can weaken and fracture or leak around the edges. It’s easy for bacteria to accumulate in these tiny crevices, which causes acid buildup and enamel breakdown. Be sure to see your dentist if you notice this type of tooth sensitivity between visits; in most cases, fillings can be easily replaced. Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2017

03:03
The Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet has today decided to award the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine jointly to Jeffrey C. Hall, Michael Rosbash and Michael W. Young for their discoveries of molecular mechanisms controlling the circadian rhythm For many years we have known that living organisms, including humans, have an internal, biological clock that helps them anticipate and adapt to the regular rhythm of the day. Their discoveries explain how plants, animals and humans adapt their biological rhythm so that it is synchronized with the Earth's revolutions. They used fruit flies as a model organismto isolated a gene that controls the normal daily biological rhythm. They showed that this gene encodes a protein that accumulates in the cell during the night, and is then degraded during the day. Subsequently, they identified additional protein components of this machinery, exposing the mechanism governing the self-sustaining clockwork inside the cell. The clock regulates critical functions such as behavior, hormone levels, sleep, body temperature and metabolism. Source: www.nobelprize.org Music: https://www.bensound.com

World Hypertension Day is a day designated and initiated by The World Hypertension League (WHL), which is itself an umbrella to organizations of 85 national hypertension societies and leagues. The day was initiated to increase the awareness of hypertension. This was especially important because of the lack of appropriate knowledge among hypertensive patients. The WHL launched its first WHD on May 14, 2005. Since 2006, the WHL has been dedicating May 17 of every year as WHD. Music: https://www.bensound.com/
