http://www.gobeyondthebrochure.com/5-things-i-wish-i-knew-about-before-attending-u-s-naval-academy/ - Don’t bring anything you don’t have to. In addition to being relieved of most of your hair, you will be given everything you need down to pens, pencils, and nail clippers on your first day. Everything else you bring will end up in a storage room for the first couple months. When you see it again, whatever it is will almost certainly not be useful to you and will be a pain to store or dispose of later. So, take the chance to start fresh in a new place with absolutely nothing but the clothes on your back, which will themselves be placed in a cardboard box for shipment back to where you came from a couple hours after you arrive.

U.S. Naval Academy - 5 Things You Must Do On Campus

http://www.gobeyondthebrochure.com/5-things-you-must-do-at-the-u-s-naval-academy/ - You must stay on track to graduate in eight semesters. It’s somewhere between a good idea and a rapidly fading dream at most schools, but you must graduate from the Naval Academy in eight semesters unless you are a very exceptional case. If you fail or incomplete a class that is a prerequisite for another series of classes that you can’t complete within four years, you’re either going to mandatory summer school or in danger of being summarily booted.

http://www.gobeyondthebrochure.com/Five-Things-I-Wish-I-Knew-Before-Attending-California-State-University-Long-Beach/ - When applying to colleges, it is often hard to get an authentic feel for the school before you have to make that crucial decision to attend. There is only so much one can discern from those generic college tours and even during orientation weekends. However, part of the college experience is that steep learning curve; living away from home for the first time is simultaneously exciting and terrifying.

http://www.gobeyondthebrochure.com/5-things-to-avoid-at-u-s-naval-academy/ - Don’t think you’re special. This trips a lot of people up, starting on the first day. If you got into the Naval Academy, like any top tier or elite school, you probably were in fact pretty special wherever you came from. On Induction Day, you’ll be getting your head shaved (guys) / hair cut (girls) alongside 1,200 other people who were special wherever they were from. In the land where everyone’s special, no one is special. Get in line with everyone else, keep your mouth shut, do your best at whatever gets tossed at you, and help your classmates in the early going.

http://www.gobeyondthebrochure.com/10-things-i-wish-i-knew-before-attending-california-state-university-northridge/ - People commute from all over to go to CSUN. That can be great, especially if you’re a commuter. But if you’re an 18-20 year old, either directly out of high school, or transferring from community college, you might want more of the stereotypical “college experience.” It’s not impossible to have that type of experience, but it takes vigilance. A lot of your friends will be driving back to Santa Clarita, Hollywood, the Westside, and other parts of LA after class – they might not be as available to hang out as they would have been at other local choices like UCLA or USC.

The prestigious faculty, successful graduates, and its prime location in New York City speak for itself at least, that was all I knew about the school before I made the final decision. Seven years and three degrees later, I would like to share my stories and some inside information that I’ve learned about this place that I can proudly call my “home.” I was the only one who went to a music conservatory from my local public high school. At MSM, basically everybody is a wonder-kid in their hometown from all over the world! Regardless of their nationality, age, gender, or major, each and every student here is crazy talented.

Upon arrival, I felt daunted and lonely. That only lasted a few weeks though, and before I knew it, I was talking to anybody and everybody around campus because I realized that I wasn’t alone they were all new at some point or another. The gluttonous dining halls, complete lack of curfew, gigantic auditorium style classes, and endless on campus events allowed me to revel in FREEDOM! Still, there was a lot that I didn’t expect, some things more pleasantly surprising than others.

These are the five things I wish I had been told before I kicked off my fast paced and zany four years at UChicago. University of Chicago’s reputation for academic rigor is not exaggerated. For some students, this means long hours in the library. For others it means showing up to every single class attentive and fully awake. Most students take far too long to realize that the most important part of their UChicago education is not the compulsory stuff like classes or homework.

SF State does not have enough on campus housing for incoming freshman. If you’re a freshman, the best way to ensure you get a spot in the dorms is to fill out the housing packet and send in your payment as soon as the university stars accepting applications. From there you will either get accepted or be put on a waitlist. The waitlist is always a gamble, but if you’re from the Bay Area or are close enough to commute in for a while, there’s a good chance you can get into the dorms a month or two after school has started.

This was how it was for me when I went to study at Bloomsburg University to pursue my dream of being a lawyer. Here are five things I wish I knew about Bloom before I chose to attend. Bloomsburg University is located on a beautiful Pennsylvania landscape with green trees and fresh air. Most of the classes are held in five buildings located next to one another around what is known as the academic quad. When the weather is warm the campus is filled with lively people – for when it is cold, the buildings are only a short walk from one to the other. With an awesome library updated with the latest technology as the headpiece to the setting, Bloomsburg University’s campus is the best place to be. The only sources of food on campus from from Aramarc, a chemical company that produces highly processed food that is not good for your health at all. Anywhere except for the commons, all you can really get are burgers and chicken sandwiches, fried appetizers, pizza, low quality salads, and processed shelf snacks. The wraps are acceptable but the prices are ridiculous. At the Commons, they try to give it a more home cooked feel but you can taste fakeness in what they are trying to pull off.

So please, hear me out and bear it for about 500 more words. Danke.

Dartmouth College - Five Things To Do On Friday Night

02:17
http://www.gobeyondthebrochure.com/Five-Things-to-Do-on-a-Friday-Night-at-Dartmouth-College/ - Definitely, go out fratting, play pong, spend time talking to other people in a basement. If you’re a freshman, you will probably be going out with your freshmen floor in conspicuously huge groups, called “shmobs.” It’s better if you plan ahead and stop by the frat that your trip leader is part of and proceed to try to “get on table” to play pong. If you’re a sophomore, play pong in your basement with your own sorority sisters or fraternity brothers with all the competitive spirit of an Olympian.

California State University Long Beach - Five Things To Look For On Campus Visit

02:27
http://www.gobeyondthebrochure.com/five-things-to-look-for-on-a-campus-visit-to-california-state-university-long-beach/ - Visiting college campuses is one of the most important things you can do in order to make an informed choice about your school. In some cases, you may visit a campus twice once before you apply and then again after you have been accepted. These campus visits are critical for getting an authentic “feel” and experiencing daily life as a student. I had to audition into CSULB’s dance program, so I spent a weekend in Long Beach touring the campus and the areas around the school and meeting with the current students and faculty of the dance department.

UMass Amherst - 5 Things I Wish I Knew About Before Attending

02:19
http://www.gobeyondthebrochure.com/5-things-i-wish-i-knew-about-umass-amherst-before-attending/ - College is probably the best and worst time you will ever have in your life. That being said, I have a love-hate relationship with my alma mater, UMass Amherst. I remember walking into the Southwest territory of the campus, for my first day of orientation, and the amount of electric excitement pulsing through my body was outstanding. Here I was; my first official step to freedom’s door, the freedom from high school, curfews, and a lack of autonomy. I thought for sure the next four years of my life would be full of orange mocha Frappucinos, blackout bliss, food comas, and learning some pretty cool things about life.

Sam Houston State University - 5 Things to Avoid

02:20
http://www.gobeyondthebrochure.com/5-Things-to-Avoid-at-Sam-Houston-State-University/ - For the most part, SHSU is an organized, safe, and all-around clean University. As far as the day-to-day goes, there is not a whole lot you need to avoid. For those things that should be avoided you have this handy list to help you out. Never walk through the tree lined path between the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (A.K.A CHSS) and the Teacher Education Center Buildings after dark.

University of Florida - Five Things to Avoid

02:22
http://www.gobeyondthebrochure.com/five-things-to-avoid-at-the-university-of-florida/ - There are many unspoken social rules at University of Florida, like to not wear your high school sport’s shirts, or play humans vs. zombies on campus; and, there are other rules of more practical relevance These rules have been learned over an entire college experience, and are undoubtedly the most important. No matter what the season is or how beautiful of a day it might be, it is very likely that it will rain at least once. So, always be prepared and keep an umbrella on you. You may need it for an unexpected monsoon, the persistent humidity, or even just the harsh sun’s rays. Just remember that nothing is as miserable as shivering in the freezing lecture halls while you are soaking wet, and you will certainly find a permanent place in your backpack for an umbrella. Even if the meals seem delicious during Preview, when you come sleep in the dorms and get used to campus before your semester stars, it is meaningless. The food quality is a trap- it goes down almost immediately. More importantly, the meal plans end up being overpriced because extremely easy to end up with leftover money on your balance that cannot be spent anywhere else, and because you could spend less money cooking for yourself.

Cornell University - Campus Food Quality

02:33
http://www.gobeyondthebrochure.com/Campus-Food-Quality-at-Cornell-University/ - It might be sad, but it’s true: a majority of college dining programs we investigate aren’t well received by students. What’s to blame then? It ranges from a lack of fresh ingredients to poor customer service and everything in between. Consider that the average college meal plan costs between $7 and $11 per meal translating to thousands of dollars over the course of a year. Hard working students simply deserve more, because balanced meals with proper nutrition are essential to scholarly success.

Full Sail University - 5 Things To Know On Campus

http://www.gobeyondthebrochure.com/hindsight-being-20-20-5-things-to-knowabout-full-sail-university-before-you-arrive/ - Full sail University with a self explanatory title like the one we have here, I normally wouldn’t bother with much of an introduction. But I have an undying commitment to honest journalism, so I have to make one thing clear before continuing. I am NOT a Full Sail University student, contrary to how our title reads. However, I have spent the better part of the last 3 years living with 4 Full Sail students, and in the past week I’ve interviewed many more.

Purdue University - 5 Things I Wish I Had Known Before Attending

02:30
http://www.gobeyondthebrochure.com/5-things-i-wish-i-had-known-about-before-attending-purdue-university/ - Recently, Kathy Foust, who earned an M.Ed. From WGU Indiana, held interviews with several college students in an effort to learn more about their experiences. Jamie Mitchell, one of the interviewees, attended Purdue at West Lafayette, Indiana. His major was agricultural engineering. Jamie shared many experiences with Kathy and offered to share some of the things he wished he had known about Purdue before enrolling there saying that knowing these things early one would have made his experience more affordable as well as more sociable. Everything is so exciting during that last year of high school it’s easy to forget some of the dates that can make your freshman experience at Purdue much easier.
