Worm Farm Questions and Answers.

11:16
I had some questions from various peolpe about worms and worm farms so I have answerd them here. See my other worm farm videos here How to make a worm farm. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exdXKk3iBPY Maintaining your wormfarm. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCVqCW1dkpA 1. For the past 4 or 5 days I've had little bugs in there i dont know what they are but they look on first glance like tiny white eggs but up close you can see them moveing i also found a maggot in there, will this be a problem for the worm farm? if so do you have any ideas of getting rid of them 2. I've just set up my first worm farm today and was wondering how long the worm castings last when harvested, do they go bad if left a while or can they be stored for as long as you want? 3. Why do you need worm farms? What do you guys use it for? 4.Other videos that I have watched have put newspaper in it with the food scraps- do you know why? does it matter? Also some people have suggested putting air holes in the container with the food scraps/worms (along the side) - is that necessary? 5. Are there any plants that don't like worm tea? 6.When I come to making my worm farm can I just transfer worms from my garden compost bin straight into the 2nd bottom box together with some of the compost they are already living in ? 7. Where can I get those containers online? Thanks for watching and of course if you have any question I will do my best to answer them for you. http://www.theproductivegarden.com Follow us on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/theproductivegarden Music in this video intro is from www.pacdv.com/sounds/

How To Make a Top Bar Hive.

01:00:55
I am making a top bar beehive to include bees as part of my garden. In this video I show you pretty much step by step how I made this top bar beehive. Parts list Sides 2x 1100mmx300mm Ends 2x 450mmx300mm Follower board 2x 380mm across the top 130mm across the bottom 280mm deep Winter floor 1x 1100mmx180mm (optional) Roof frame sides 2x 1180mmx75mm Roof frame ends 2x 455mmx150mm I cut these with a gable roof angle but you could keep them flat if you prefer. The above parts should be 25mm if you live in a cold climate but I have have used 18mm ply as my winteres dont get to cold. Legs 4x 800mm and of a standard that will support the hive for many years. Roof I used 2x 1200mmx300mm ply that I used to make the hive but you could easily go down to 10mm ply as long as it is exterior grade. Top bars 430mmx34mmx22mm you will need about 30 and any straight grained wood should be fine. comb guides 300mmx6mm half round dowel You will need one for each top bar. You will also need some perpex if you wish to make an inspection window along with hinges and some sort of latch for the door. Screws, nails and exterior grade pva glue. The plans for this hive were obtained from http://www.biobees.com/build-a-beehive-free-plans.php http://www.theproductivegarden.com Follow us on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/theproductivegarden Music in this video intro is from www.pacdv.com/sounds/
