These thermostat housings commonly fail on these engines and cause a coolant leak. They are a little tricky to replace on these Sport Tracs due to the design of the intake manifold. Some mechanics will loosen or remove the intake but in this video I will show you that the job can be performed without removing the intake. Thanks for stopping by and watching the video. My 2005 Ford explorer sport Trac seems to be having issues with my AC clutch. I believe that the clutch on the compressor may be damaged. When I have the AC turned off in the cab, the air comes out cold as if it's constantly running, even when it's supposed to be off. When it is turned on, it seems to still do the same thing. Any help would be great. -Thanks

Hi Everyone: The customer complaint is loss of power, running rough and the check engine light came on. Towed in this morning, no codes stored in the computer, starts ok, has a rough idle, just like a fouled spark plug or bad plug wire. Scan tool data showed 49 to 50 psi fuel pressure with the engine running ( the spec is 60 to 65 psi with the engine running ). The LTFT is minus 5 and minus 4, stays that way at idle and 2,500 rpm. The current ramp scope pattern shows a consistant spike upward in the pattern. This vehicle has a failing fuel pump ands now I have the facts to show my customer exactly what is wrong with his vehicle. Always ask your own mechanic for the facts if your not sure about something. Most vehicles equipped with external keyless entry keypads have the factory assigned code printed on the keyless entry computer but finding it is the trick! I was told by my local Ford dealer they could read it from the computer but they wanted $55 to do that. If you don't know the code for your keyless entry keypad, I'll show you how to find it here. It does involve about 1/2 hour of your time and a few hand tools but you don't need to pay the dealer anything. You can find it yourself for free. Note: This procedure involves removal of passenger side air bag. Please use caution handling air bags at your own risk and if unsure, seek advice on air bag and other safety precautions.

This is very similar for most of the 4.0 Ford V6 motors. The thermostat housing is a 3 piece plastic unit (Plastic, stupid!) that is glued together. The glue eventually fails, and youll start leaking coolant slowly or rapidly. I noticed some smoke coming out from under the hood one day, saw some coolant puddled on the top of the engine, and then a stream running down and hitting the manifold. I suggest ordering this part on RockAuto.com, you can choose 2 day shipping and still get it way cheaper than a parts store.

http://ford-trucks.com/how-tos is the leading Ford Trucks resource for technical, DIY guides. This guide will show you how to check your transmission fluid in just a few easy steps. For our complete step-by-step article, please visit http://www.ford-trucks.com/how-tos/a/ford-f150-how-to-check-your-transmission-fluid-356898. Dirty transmission fluid can cause issues ranging from a check engine light to damaged transmission internals. Heat and broken parts will shorten the life of your fluid, but in general, your transmission fluid will last the life of your truck. It's the first thing your should check if the transmission is misbehaving. This easy job takes fifteen minutes and costs nothing to complete. No tools are required on 2004 to 2008 trucks, but a 19 millimeter wrench is needed for post-2009 trucks with the 6R80 transmission. Step One - Locate the transmission dipstick Using the lever inside the vehicle, pop the hood and secure the hood with the interior prop. Most Ford F-150 trucks have the transmission dipstick located to the immediate left, or on the passenger side. It looks like a bright yellow ring. However, newer truck models with the 6R80 will have a hidden dipstick located on the actual transmission body. Step Two - Check the transmission fluid level A warm engine is essential to determine the quality of your transmission fluid. Your dipstick will have both cold and hot level indicators. You'll want to test the fluid while it's warm if your truck is in a driveable condition. Transmission fluid expands as it heats up, so a "HOT" reading is more accurate. To get the transmission up to the correct temperature, drive around until the engine and transmission is warm; a few miles should do the trick. Step Three - Visually check the transmission fluid quality Make sure your vehicle is parked on a level surface and pull out the dipstick. Look at both the color and the consistency of the fluid. It should be either bright red, or in some cases, nearly clear. If it is dark red, brown or black, you need a fluid and filter change. Don’t forget to replace the dipstick in your vehicle when finished.

Really made this quick to show the port to charge at. saw another video the guy never took camera up to show the location of the port. Always charge at low pressure not high side but low is always the right size to fit A/C hose charging ends so kinda hard to get it wrong. Sometimes you charge on a hose but here's where it is on the Explorer. So real quick. Made this just to show where to charge the A/C on a 2003 Explorer. Probably the same on other years also. Mine has the rear a/c in video I said my take 2 cans. Mine actually took 4 cans it was completely empty but I changed my condenser due to a front end accident. I also put a 3 ounce can of oil in. Totally ice cold works great for me. If you want to save money, charging your own A/C is the ticket but it only works if you have a car where the system holds the Freon in and the A/C compressor works. Also, very important to not at least in Wisconsin where I live Walmart has Freon for $4.88 a can its actually $14.95 a can at the car store. A ridiculous amount so buy at Walmart. I have 9 cars its always so cheap to charge A/C. I like the gauge attachment for the A/C. Once you buy the attachment to screw Freon cans onto it will last for years if you take it easy.

I created this video because I own a 2006 Ford Explorer and after I changed the oil, the dashboard Oil Change Required light stayed on. After researching online how to get it reset, I found that no one had a good answer. So I decided to make a video showing how I did it. Hope this helps other Ford owners out there. Please give this video a thumb up and leave a comment if you find it useful. This will help promote the video so others can find it, too. Thanks.
