I needed some help getting it back together again because of this. Firstly I tested the clutch plate slip. They were under spec and needed changing. I then drained the black diff oil out and started to remove the rear attachments. The speed sensor, rear bolts and rear casing itself then came off. Then I pulled out the side flanges with a bit of persuasion and impacted the side bolts off, again with a bit of persuasion. It was then a matter of lifting the LSD unit out of the casing. The pinion gear was next. The 30mm nut required a low profile socket so one was made on the lathe. The gear then took a lot of whacking to get out. I then set about removing the main seal with a lot of force. Once out, I could then remove the pinion bearing. Once most of the internal components were out I de-greased the main parts. I then did my best to remove most of the super thick rust from the main casing. I also remove the old mount from the rear cover. Then I blast everything. The main case needed more hammer and chiseling as the glass would just bounce off. Once all the rust was gone, it was time to paint. Etch, wet on wet, and base coat were added to make the outer parts look new again. Then the smaller metal pieces were de-rusted and polished. I wanted to replace as many parts as possible for this restoration. The bearings, seals, bolts, gasket, oil, and O-rings were all sourced from bearingkits.co.uk and BMW. Once everything was dry, cleaned and ready. Me and a friend set about taking apart and rebuilding the LSD itself. This involved the punching, pushing and pulling of bearings and racers. Once the pinion bearing was back in, and tight. It was time to test the preload of the gear. This was achieved by a special tool created by http://www.preloadrr.com/. Once set to the correct resistance. It was time to reattach the LSD and side flanges. I could then test and adjust the backlash using yellow paint. I then cleaned up the gasket face and applied some RTV gasket sealant. Once smoothed down I could then apply the paper gasket and have it be held in place by the RTV whilst I attach the rear cover. The speed sensor, drain plugs, bolts and ID tag all went back on before I filled the diff with brand new diff oil. The restoration was then complete. This restoration took 1 week, was a lot of fun and a massive learning experience. - Disclaimer: I am no professional. Especially when it comes to electrics. Battery Care and Maintenance Tips -EricTheCarGuy

18:39
Battery Care and Maintenance tips was actually suggested by my good friend and forum moderator at EricTheCarGuy.com, College man aka Paul Krawsek. I thought it was a great idea for a video so I ran with it. The batteries in our vehicles are often overlooked until they don't work. With a little time, some relatively inexpensive tools, and a basic knowledge of what to look for, you can keep your battery working for a very long time. DIY Rust Repair Cheap And Easy!

In this video I filmed from start to finish as I repaired the door sill on my 2009 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg. This is by no means the "right way" to do the job. The only way to completely remove rust is to cut it out and weld in a replacement piece of steel. This video is for those of you who are sick of looking at a rust spot on your car and don't want to spend the money at a professional auto body repair shop. In this video I explain the step by step DIY process of how to repair rust and paint your car, motorcycle, tractor, etc.

7 Tricks That Can Make Your Car Last Longer

08:26
If you want your car to serve you longer and save money on expensive service and maintenance, pay attention to these simple yet really important rules. Experts recommend a few things to keep in mind and a few common mistakes to avoid to make your car last longer. If you stick around till the end of the video, we’ll tell you how you can fix a cracked windshield with garlic. Having the correct tire pressure is a sort of “Goldilocks” situation. If it gets too low OR too high, you can have serious problems. Don't forget about seasonal tire changes and remember to swap your front and rear tires at least once a year. Sharp acceleration and abrupt braking might feel like fun, but they’re actually extremely harmful to vehicles. If you decide to park on an incline and put your car in Park, it puts too much pressure on the transmission. In rare cases, it can even become dislodged or break down. So the best option is to use the emergency brake. With the help of the symbols on the car's dashboard, your car can tell you when something's wrong, like when the engine's overheated, something's wrong with the electrical system, or the brake fluid level is too low. Go to an auto repair shop as soon as possible to save yourself from expensive repairs or even an accident. Weighing your vehicle down excessively does nothing good for the car's suspension, steering, transmission, tires, and engine. Plus, overloading increases fuel consumption and makes the car more difficult to handle. Remember that cars, just like people, need regular check-ups and “health” tests. Music: Retro - Wayne Jones https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS Keep your tire pressure in-check. 0:40 Take it easy on the gas and brake pedals. 2:03 Park correctly. 2:42 Don't ignore the dashboard. 3:54 Don't forget about vehicle inspections and repairs. 5:13 Avoid overloading. 6:03 Don't overload the clutch. 6:50 Bonus: fix a cracked windshield with garlic! 7:18 SUMMARY -Check your tire pressure at least twice a month (but once a week is even better). While adding air to your tires, make sure they aren't warm to the touch and don't overfill them. -If you’re a fan of sharp acceleration and abrupt braking, remember both of them are actually extremely harmful to vehicles. Plus, you’re just burning more gas than you need to. -Avoid throwing the car into Park before coming to a full and complete stop. The same goes for putting the car into Drive or Reverse before stopping fully: don’t do it. -If you notice the engine light flashing while you're driving, slow down right away because this might be a sign of a serious problem. The brake light lets you know that somewhere in the braking system something has gone wrong. -Check your car’s manual to find out how often you should change your oil or air filter and remember that a lot of it depends on your driving habits. Get yearly inspections and keep in mind that routine maintenance will depend on the season and the mileage. -Get acquainted with the maximum load capacity for your car and stick to it. Try to get rid of all of the useless stuff in your car. -Don't hold the clutch in at long traffic lights. During short stops, shift to Neutral and press the clutch right before you start moving. -Take a clove of garlic, cut it lengthwise down the middle, rub the cut side over the crack, and wipe away the excess juice with a paper towel or napkin to keep the crack from getting worse until you can get it repaired. Ford F-150: Basic Maintenance on your Truck

04:15
http://ford-trucks.com/how-tos is the leading Ford F-150 and Super Duty resource for technical DIY guides. Watch this video for tips on how to maintain your Ford truck and keep it running for years to come. For the full article, visit http://www.ford-trucks.com/how-tos/a/ford-f150-basic-maintenance-schedule-359521. Oil keeps your engine lubricated to perform its best. When it gets old it starts to break down and lose its lubricating properties. Once this happens, parts in the engine will begin to overheat due to the friction and will eventually lead to the engine seizing. Change your oil every three-thousand to seven thousand miles or three months. Whichever comes first. Check your engine oil via dipstick twice a week. Refer to the owner’s manual for the proper weight oil and the amount to use. Transmission Fluid Like engine oil, this keeps your transmission both lubricated and cool. Without it, transmission components will wear against each other and eventually break destroying the transmission. Changing this fluid is a bit more challenging than your engine oil, but definitely doable for the weekend mechanic. Check the level of fluid monthly using the dipstick. Change the fluid every sixty thousand miles. Refer to the owner’s manual for the proper ATF to use. Engine Coolant Without coolant, your engine will overheat and die very quickly. It’s important to make sure your coolant level is within the markings on the reservoir, especially if you live in a hot climate. Likewise getting a proper mixture of 50/50 antifreeze to water is important as well. The antifreeze will protect your engine from below freezing temperatures, without it hoses and fittings could freeze over and crack causing leaks. Check the coolant twice a week using markings on the side of the reservoir. Change the coolant every seventy to one-hundred thousand miles. Brake Fluid This is a more involved task and not something recommended for the beginning mechanic, because a mistake could mean redoing it all over again or a catastrophe. Your brake fluid is what makes your brakes work by using the fluid pressure to compress the pistons on the brake rotors, without it your brakes can fail. The brake fluid should be changed every thirty-fifty thousand miles. Check the fluid once every two weeks by taking a look at the reservoir. Make sure that not only the fluid is up to level but that the fluid is a light clear color. Use only DOT 3 or 4 fluids to fill, Check the owner’s manual to see which is for your car. Power Steering Fluid Your power steering pump is linking to your main drive belt, so keeping the fluid full is a necessity. If the fluid starts to run low you’ll be greeted by a whining sound when you try to turn the steering wheel. If it runs completely dry it can cause the pump to seize which can break your drive belt, leaving the truck inoperable. Check monthly using the marker on the reservoir. Top off as needed with fresh fluid. Check the owner’s manual to see for preference. Tires Without tires, your truck won’t go anywhere so it’s important to make sure they’re in good shape. A tire blowing out on the interstate can be deadly. You’ll want to: Inspect for uneven tire wear – this can be a sign of a bad alignment or wrong air pressure in the tire Check tread depth – the penny head test can tell you when it’s time to replace Check air pressure – this can be trial and error if not using the OEM spec tires, otherwise refer to air pressure stated on the door jamb sticker. Spark Plugs Spark plugs let your motor convert your gasoline into power by providing the spark for it to burn. Faulty spark plugs can lead to misfires which can lead to damage cylinders and blown motors. Check the state of the plugs every three months. Change them every sixty to eighty thousand miles or when bad. Change them all at once to keep the spark uniform for combustion. Check all these components regularly and you’ll be on top of the major things that will keep your Ford running daily. By doing these tasks you’ll know that you’ve prevented a ton of things that could leave you and your faithful truck on the side of the road.
