Plan to Win! #4 Differentiation: Planning that Moves the Sales Process Forward

03:59
Welcome to Action Selling's Plan to Win series! Your go to resource for real-world solutions to real-world sales challenges. This week we're continuing our conversation on differentiation - how to plan your sales call so you consistently moving the sales process forward. Based on research conducted by The Sales Board, the most frequent mistakes sales people make is the failure to effectively plan for their sales calls. In fact, nearly 100 percent of sales people occasionally suffer from this issue and too often the results of this misstep is an extended sales cycle or a deal that simply lost forever. Action Selling suggests before each customer interaction there must be a commitment objective established. This is a goal you set for yourself to gain agreement from the customer that moves the sales process forward. Without a commitment objective you may be moving forward, but the customer may not. When a commitment objective is accomplished during a sales interaction you will know both you and the customer are on the same path towards gaining an agreement to work together. Example's of commitment objectives you may set when calling out a new prospect include: - agree to an initial appointment - schedule a needs analysis meeting - agree to an appointment with all the decision-makers involved in the buying process - schedule a demonstration or proposal meeting and ultimately agree to do business together Examples of commitment objectives that you might establish for a current customer include: - agree to add a new product to their purchases - upgrade to another product - become their exclusive supplier - gain confirmation that they are satisfied with your service Unfortunately, for our sales guy Todd, he has learned how to not plan the hard way. On a recent sales call with a big opportunity Todd set a number of objectives for himself. He wanted to learn: - what the customer had purchased in the past - about their decision-making process - their timeframe for making a purchase - make sure that he introduced his company While Todd learned all this information and talked about his company the prospect left the meeting feeling unenthusiastic, a little confused and frankly like their time had been wasted by setting only mere sales call objectives for himself and not a commitment objective, Todd felt like he had moved his process forward, but the customer felt like nothing had been accomplished. Needless to say Todd's voicemails and emails to the customer have gone unreturned. Fortunately for Todd and his company he now sets a commitment objective for each and every sales contact. By doing this his sales are up, his cell cycle is down by 25 percent and customers are excited when he calls them on the phone or walks through their door. Most important, because Todd set a commitment objective for every sales call, in the mind of his customers he is better then his competition. Thanks for tuning in. We hope the past few minutes have been worthwhile! In our next episode, will discuss how to begin each sales call perfectly so you can differentiate yourself, your company and your product in every selling situation. In the meantime, good luck and good Action Selling!

Do Nows | Videos for Teachers | matchminis.org

03:04
Makes the case for running a daily "Do Now", and details how to run effective lesson openings. For more videos go to https://www.matchminis.org ---- Here are the subtitles for the Do Now video. This must be a dream. I know it’s a dream because a group of students are talking about yesterday’s lesson as they enter the room. The bell won’t ring for another 30 seconds, but they’re already speculating about what I’m going to teach them today. And Toni Morrison is outside riding the class unicorn! Yeah. It’s a dream. Students usually enter class in a very different headspace than you want them to be in. Some of them are great at quickly gathering their attention. But more often the teacher needs to create specific conditions in which their class can quickly focus on the business at hand. My solution is a daily procedure called the Do Now, where students pick-up a handout and work silently and independently for the first few minutes of class. It sounds easy, but there’s a lot of nuance. Here’s how to run a Do-Now that promotes bell-to-bell learning, and sets the tone for hard work. First, establish the expectation that students will pick up the Do Now on the way to their seat every day. You can stand near the door to greet kids and remind them to grab it. Narrate the actions of students who are seated and working before class begins, because when the bell rings, it’s time to start working silently. Right now kids are solidifying key points from yesterday that will be relevant to today’s lesson. I also sometimes ask them to activate prior knowledge that will be useful for framing new material. When I return essays, I use the Do Now to have them reflect on their work. In any case, the work is self-explanatory and achievable. Most of your students should be able to complete most of the work in the time allotted. And I always include a challenge question at the end for students who might finish early. So what am I doing? First of all, I’m not taking questions. It’s a silent work time—and I want to follow my own rule—so I give them strategies for what to do if they don’t know the answer. Instead, I’m scanning the room, ensuring that everyone is working hard. If a student is making noise, or comes in late, I’ll get their attention and point to the Do Now expectations. Then, I do another lap around the room looking at their work, getting data about their understanding, and searching for something very specific. It’s what I call “The Great Mistake.” It’s an error that is either common to a lot of students’ work, or is essential to the coming material. Preferably both! Giving kids feedback is a key part of each of my lessons, but I only have a minute or two to recap the Do Now. What I choose to focus on needs to be high leverage. So after five minutes are up, I say, “Pencils down, eyes up – it’s time for… THE GREAT MISTAKE!” My kids get excited because they’re bought into a growth mindset, and I get to deliver strategic feedback. Everybody wins. And that’s my Do Now! It did take a few days to teach my kids the routine. But after I reinforced the expectations a few times, they totally got it. And now? The beginning of class is usually pretty dreamy. ----- Have feedback? Send it over. We'd love to hear from you. https://www.matchminis.org/feedback Want to learn more about Match Education? Lesson 4 - Business Strategy & War - A Video Guide for Startups

04:47
What the difference between business and war? Just the weapons – at least, according to one wit. When you start a new business it’s likely that you’ll have competitors who’ve been around for a while. They won’t be too pleased that you’ve arrived to take a cut of their profits. They’ll be looking for ways to stop you. That's where a good business strategy comes in. ------------------------------------ Transcript: What’s a niche and why do you need one? How do you create a strategy? What’s a Business plan? Do you actually need one? I’m Pat Hough and those are the questions we’ll be considering in this short video. In the last video you learned about the mission statement, strategy and goals. In this video we’ll cover finding a niche and developing a strategy around it Business has been compared to war. Of course there are many differences but there are also some striking similarities. I’m going to push the comparison as far as it will go in this video. Once you start your business you will be facing stiff opposition from your competitors - We’ll call them the enemy from now on. You have limited resources so you have to choose the battles you’ll fight carefully. First you must carry out several reconnaissance missions - to identify the strengths and weaknesses of your enemy. You must figure out what they’re doing before deploying your own forces. It would be great if you were able to develop a secret weapon. That would give you an advantage that the enemy doesn’t have. If you can - do that. If not, can you come up with a way of doing things differently? Can you attack from a different direction - maybe identify a target that has real value but is underestimated by the opposition? There is no point in facing the enemy head-to-head because they have the forces to wipe you out. You need to find areas where the enemy is weak and you are strong. Create a map, like this one, with all the key areas included. Then record the enemy’s strengths & weakness. Then - under that - record your own strengths and weaknesses. Now look for areas where the enemy is weak and you are strong. You need both of those things to coincide to find your ideal area. And that is your niche. Now you’re ready to create your strategy: First - confirm your Mission Statement - update it if necessary. You need be crystal clear about your final OBJECTIVE. Next, where are you going to engage the enemy? What resources will you need? What are the threats that you have to neutralise? What are the potential dangers? How are you going to rescue your customers from the hell they’re going through with their current captors? However, remember that some of them may not want to be rescued. If you need additional resources, you may have to look for outside help. That may mean that you will have to prepare a Business plan. This is a document that tell your potential allies about yourself, your forces and why you will win. If you don’t need external help - or they don’t need a business plan - it’s better to stick to a simple plan that you’ll be able to update quickly as things change. The problem is that everything will take longer than expected. You will meet unexpected problems. The problem is that plans never survive contact with the enemy. The enemy won’t just wait if they think you are a threat so your plan must be flexible enough to react to the battlefield. You need to have a strategy and a plan that you will actually use. To win. So the next steps: 1. Do the reconnaissance and identify the competitions strengths and weaknesses 2. Identify your own strengths and weaknesses 3. May them out and identify your NICHE - where you have the advantage 4. Create your strategy around the Niche 5. Set your GOALS Then go for it! You can map your strengths and weakness on the Engagement Map. It’s available for download on my site - pat-hough.com. Thanks for watching - Until the NEXT TIME.

Differentiating between the P & B sounds - English Accent Lesson to improve pronunciation

11:24
Differentiating between the P & B sounds - English Accent Lesson to improve pronunciation Blog : http://www.learnex.in/differentiating-between-the-p-b-sounds-improve-your-english-accent In English, there are many consonants which have similar jaw/mouth movements, but sound differently. The difference between them, usually, is the vibration felt in throat and the amount of air that comes out of one’s lips. They are called voiced and unvoiced consonants. In this lesson we will be discussing two such consonants: the B and P Website : http://www.letstalkpodcast.com Facebook : http://www.facebook.com/letstalkpodcast The jaw movement is the same in P and B, what changes is the lip movement and the role of vocal chords. B is the Voiced Consonant. It does not involve complex lip movement, but a sensation of vibration in your vocal chords. Also, there is no air, while pronouncing the letter. If you touch you throat gently while pronouncing B, you can feel the vibration. However, P in unvoiced, there should be no vibration but a lot of air from your lips. Let’s look at few words with the B and P sound. B P Bat Pat Bee Pea Bin Pin Born (B – ohn) Porn/Pawn (P- ohn) Bush Push Abort ( Ab- oht) Apart (Ap-aat) Cubicle (Q-bi-cal) Couple (Kuh-puhl) Fumble (Fuhm-buhl) Flapper Habit Happy (ha-pee) Zebra Zipper Cup Cub Dab Dip Lab Lap Mob Mop Tab Tap When we speak English, we have to be careful not to interchange and mix the B and P sound as change in the sound can change meaning. For eg. Simple means plain, where as , symbol means signs.

What is MARKETING STRATEGY? What does MARKETING STRATEGY mean?

03:30
What is MARKETING STRATEGY? What does MARKETING STRATEGY mean? Marketing strategy has the fundamental goal of increasing sales and achieving a sustainable competitive advantage. Marketing strategy includes all basic, short-term, and long-term activities in the field of marketing that deal with the analysis of the strategic initial situation of a company and the formulation, evaluation and selection of market-oriented strategies and therefore contribute to the goals of the company and its marketing objectives. The process usually begins with a scan of the business environment, both internal and external, which includes understanding strategic constraints. It is generally necessary to try to grasp many aspects of the external environment, including technological, economic, cultural, political and legal aspects. Goals are chosen. Then, a marketing strategy or marketing plan is an explanation of what specific actions will be taken over time to achieve the objectives. Plans can be extended to cover many years, with sub-plans for each year, although as the speed of change in the merchandising environment quickens, time horizons are becoming shorter. Ideally, strategies are both dynamic and interactive, partially planned and partially unplanned, to enable a firm to react to unforeseen developments while trying to keep focused on a specific pathway; generally, a longer time frame is preferred. There are simulations such as customer lifetime value models which can help marketers conduct "what-if" analyses to forecast what might happen based on possible actions, and gauge how specific actions might affect such variables as the revenue-per-customer and the churn rate. Strategies often specify how to adjust the marketing mix; firms can use tools such as Marketing Mix Modeling to help them decide how to allocate scarce resources for different media, as well as how to allocate funds across a portfolio of brands. In addition, firms can conduct analyses of performance, customer analysis, competitor analysis, and target market analysis. A key aspect of marketing strategy is often to keep marketing consistent with a company's overarching mission statement. Marketing strategy should not be confused with a marketing objective or mission. For example, a goal may be to become the market leader, perhaps in a specific niche; a mission may be something along the lines of "to serve customers with honor and dignity"; in contrast, a marketing strategy describes how a firm will achieve the stated goal in a way which is consistent with the mission, perhaps by detailed plans for how it might build a referral network, for example. Strategy varies by type of market. A well-established firm in a mature market will likely have a different strategy than a start-up. Plans usually involve monitoring, to assess progress, and prepare for contingencies if problems arise.

Branding Your Business

08:05
If you have never gotten into the middle of running your enterprise you have probably not focused on how critically important BRANDING is for your business. Yes, you’ve thought about cool names and logos, etc. – but you probably never have gotten very deep into the branding game. Think about branding as the identity of your business. You want the identity to be clear, strong and differentiated from others in similar businesses. The first thing everyone who begins to plan a brand should do is think about the unique aspects of what you are doing. Sometimes I actually try to think of my new brand as a person and ascribe traits to it. It is bold and aggressive or is it quiet and flirty? What I never do is copy off other big brands. If I try to copy off established brands, then I lose the character of my brand at the very start. Once I have a general sense of what makes my brand unique and how I want to position it in the world, I begin thinking of a name and that is what this lesson deals with today. Naming your business. Let me start out by saying that there is no right or wrong answer when naming your business. While it is generally a good idea to keep the name relevant to the business that you are engaged in, there are plenty of business names that have no meaning for the actual business they conduct – i.e. Google. Apple. If you look at these two examples and think about others you will uncover a principle even more important than relevance. That is size; the shorter the name the better. The shorter the name, the more people will remember it. Next, obviously, the name can’t be in wide use by someone else or have an active trademark on it. If I am naming a product business I am always going to ‘google’ the name to see if there are other products in the market with a similar name and then I am going to go to the search online the federal governments trademark names in a data base they have called TESS. It would be great if my name also has a .com internet extension available but I have had plenty of products sell big numbers that didn’t have the perfect web address. Take for example, Sensa. That product was a billion dollar a year seller and the main website was trysensa.com. And today the com extension is becoming less and less important with the growth of other extensions like .tv and .co. Next you will want to look at the relevant social medias and make sure your name is available in some direct form or another. I always look at Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. So to review - when naming a business, try to keep it short and relevant and hopefully have a good web extension available for it as well as direct social media addresses available. One of my new businesses that I will use as an illustration throughout these lessons is a new brand of CBDs. Legal CBD are derived from industrial hemp so hemp is the most relevant and recognizable term to have in the title. We decided on Hempnotics as the name since we like the ring of it and others responded favorably to the name. Unfortunately, there was a website called Hempnotics already registered so we added the word PURE making the new business name PURE HEMPNOTICS. It was relevant, only two words and the .com web extension was available as well as the direct social media sites. There were no trademarks so we applied for one and there you have it: Pure Hempnotics. The beginning of its branding for the world.
