Their role is to implement the strategic direction that top management has chosen. However, if one of the four Ps is not in sync with the others, the entire plan becomes compromised. Imagine you are a marketing manager in a company that produces air conditioners. Your R&D team has just let you know they have come up with an amazing breakthrough – they have created an air conditioner that uses 50% less energy than any other air conditioner in the marketplace. Until this moment, your company’s strategy has been cost leadership, but this new finding allows you to create a differentiated product! So, what are you going to do? Tell the R&D team their amazing breakthrough is not in line with the firm’s strategy? Even though it might win the firm market share and allow it to charge more for its products, and marketing studies indicate potential improvements of profitability? Or perhaps, you could readjust the four Ps plan to correspond to a differentiated product that is going to cost more, will be sold by premium resellers, and will need an extensive advertising campaign… The second scenario sounds better, right? The 4 Ps can be readjusted and needs to be readjusted when one of the Ps changes. Think of the Ps as an ecosystem that must adapt to a changing environment. If one component changes, all four must evolve and adapt accordingly.

However, pricing decisions inconsistent with a firm’s competitive strategy can be dangerous, which is why companies should address the topic with much caution and attention. There are three important components we need to distinguish in this process. The amount a product costs to be produced, the price customers pay to buy the product, and the value they acquire from the product. If a company aims at cost leadership, then the focus will be costs (trying to keep them as low as possible). The company must offer a price slightly lower than the one offered by competitors. Conversely, if a firm’s strategy is differentiation, then the critical factor will be the value delivered to customers. Costs are not that important, as companies offering a differentiated product can charge more. So, pricing must be coherent with competitive strategy, although sometimes it is tempting to adjust prices to stimulate short-term gains of market share and increases of sales. Top-level managers have to stay focused on the big picture and make coherent decisions in line with the firm’s long-term strategy.

What is PERSONALIZED LEARNING? What does PERSONALIZED LEARNING mean?

10:17
What is PERSONALIZED LEARNING? What does PERSONALIZED LEARNING mean? PERSONALIZED LEARNING meaning - PERSONALIZED LEARNING definition. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ Personalized learning, individualized instruction, personal learning environment and direct instruction all refer to efforts to tailor education to meet the different needs of students. The use of the term "personalized learning" dates back to at least the early 1960s, but there is no widespread agreement on the definition and components of a personal learning environment. Even enthusiasts for the concept admit that personal learning is an evolving term and doesn't have any widely accepted definition. In 2005, Dan Buckley defined two ends of the personalized learning spectrum: "personalization for the learner", in which the teacher tailors the learning, and "personalization by the learner", in which the learner develops skills to tailor his own learning. This spectrum was adopted by the (2006) Microsoft's Practical Guide to Envisioning and Transforming Education. The United States National Education Technology Plan 2017 defines personalized learning as follows: Personalized learning refers to instruction in which the pace of learning and the instructional approach are optimized for the needs of each learner. Learning objectives, instructional approaches, and instructional content (and its sequencing) may all vary based on learner needs. In addition, learning activities are meaningful and relevant to learners, driven by their interests, and often self-initiated. Typically technology is used to try to facilitate personalized learning environments. According to researcher Eduard Pogorskiy: ICT and communications technology can be a powerful tool for personalized learning as it allows learners access to research and information, and provides a mechanism for communication, debate, and recording learning achievements. However, personalized learning is not exclusive to digital technologies or environments. In the rhetoric around 21st Century Skills, personalized learning is often equated with 'customization' (as found in the business world), with digital personalization used to the frame the learning experience as highly efficient. Problematic in this is the discounting of the highly relational and socially constructed space well defined in the research on learning. Narrowing personalized learning to its digital form also raises the concern of the echo chamber effect emerging in (hyper)personalized online experiences. Proponents of personalized learning say that many elements of curriculum, assessment and instructional design must be present in classrooms for students to succeed and often use software systems to manage and facilitate student-led instruction. Proponents argue that classroom learning activities must build upon students' prior knowledge and teachers need to allocate time for practice. Advocates argue that teachers must continuously assess student learning against clearly defined standards and goals and student input into the assessment process is integral. As stated above by the 2017 United States National Education Technology Plan, "Personalized learning refers to instruction in which the pace of learning and the instructional approach are optimized the needs for each learner." Conferring is a process in which this can be accomplished. Conferring, as defined by Julie Kallio, is a "regular, goal-oriented meeting between the teacher and student(s) where they talk about learning progress, process, and/or products." Conferring, more simply, is a way to provide more personalized feedback. Learning, in any context, requires some form of feedback. In schools, this feedback is almost entirely thought of as the teacher providing feedback to the student. The idea of providing feedback to advance student learning is best understood in the framework of the "zone of proximal development" or ZPD. ....

INBOUND 2016: Karla Morales-Lee "7 Positioning for Growth: How to Identify, Articulate and Market"

24:34
With a reported half a million agencies worldwide, having a strategy and plan for standing out from the competition is vital for the winning of new business. In this session, London-based positioning expert and new business careerist Karla Morales-Lee will share the secret to why some agencies win more new business than others. Described as “an entrepreneurial new business person" by Campaign magazine, Karla helps agencies to move past outdated and ineffective business development tactics such as cold calling and the sending of unsolicited direct mail. Her clients win more new business as a result of having a compelling point of difference and then illustrating and dramatising that difference through their agency marketing. She calls her expertise ‘building agency brands’. In addition to her consulting business, Karla is co-founder of The Art of New Business events and The UK Agency Awards. Both of these companies strive to improve the way agencies prospect for new business and highlight best practice in agency self-promotion. She sits in the advisory council for Women In Marketing (WIM) in the UK and has spoken at D&AD festival, the Worldwide Partners and Taan Worldwide global conferences on the topic of building agency brands. The session will cover: • Examples of agencies that position and market themselves effectively • How to use positioning theory to stand out in an oversaturated agency market • Frameworks for your agency to build its own effective new business strategy.

Strategies to Improve Secondary Students’ Writing Skills: Lessons from a WWC Practice Guide

01:01:02
On January 18, 2017, the What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) delivered a webinar on evidence-based practices for improving secondary students’ writing skills. The webinar focused on the three recommendations in the recently released practice guide, Teaching Secondary Students to Write Effectively. To support educators’ efforts to develop effective writing skills for students in grades 6–12, the WWC conducted a review of existing research and worked with an expert panel of practitioners and researchers to identify recommended practices that educators can implement in their classrooms. Presenters discussed the guide’s three recommendations and gave teachers in all disciplines actionable guidance on how to implement them in the classroom. They also discussed potential challenges educators may face when implementing the recommended practices, as well as advice from the experts on how to overcome those challenges. Administrators, professional development providers, program developers, and researchers may also find this information useful.

Instruction for English learners (EL) is most effective when it is high-quality instruction that directly addresses the individual EL student’s needs. Such high quality instruction is provided by teachers who understand best strategies, and who build full confidence in their understanding of how to implement these strategies appropriately in their classrooms, with their students. Systems of support can give teachers of ELs the foundations they need. The U.S. Department of Education’s Investing in Innovation (i3) Program is pleased to share the recording of our discussion with two i3 grantees working to improve English learner (EL) student achievement – Leading with Learning and Teaching English Learners Early Mathematics (TEEM).  Both projects provide models for improving teaching and learning practices and educational outcomes for English learner students through powerful teacher professional learning. How the CEO Defines Who You Compete With, and How to Win

42:01
Chief Executive Officer demonstrates the corporate strategy’s competitive view. Joining us for today’s show is Mike Dickerson, the Chief Executive Officer for ClickDimensions who knows how to make the number. Today’s topic is focused on demonstrating the corporate strategy’s competitive view. Mike leverages the How to Make Your Number in 2018 Workbook to access emerging best practices as a guide for our questions. Review the Competitors phase starting on page 70 of the Corporate Strategy section dedicated to generating revenue growth. For many companies, the CEO leaves competitive guidance up to a simple report of competitor capabilities developed by an analyst. This represents one of the least defined areas of corporate strategy by CEO’s for their marketing and sales teams. There is a better way to increase your team’s win rate against the competition. Mike Dickerson, the Chief Executive Officer for ClickDimensions, a SaaS-based marketing automation company with 3,000 customers. Under Mike’s leadership, the company has grown 45% in the last year with revenues of $45M. Mike will demonstrate how to define who you compete with, and how to win. Why this topic? Share battles often lead to below average revenue growth because the cycle of market share give-and-take rarely results in a permanent share gain for any one competitor. Sustainable revenue growth from share gain comes from changing the product or its delivery enough to create what is effectively a new product. Price wars do not result in share gain driven revenue growth because they can result in a decline in sales and are not repeatable. This is because customers will eventually push back, thus eroding any short-term revenue growth. Mike is uniquely qualified to speak on this topic as a CEO with a corporate strategy and planning background. He knows the importance of setting the right corporate strategy to enable his functional leaders to be successful. In the first segment of the program Mike discusses his company’s unique competitive advantage. There are three broad types of competitive advantage. The first is a superior product, and that's clearly the case here with ClickDimensions, who has built their product with an User Interface (UI) that’s differentiated. They have a very clear competitive advantage there. The second type of differentiation is price. The way that you can compete on price is that you have a lower cost structure than your competitors. As a result of that, you can be more competitive in pricing and offer a better value proposition. Mike describes a very unique go to market model, with a thousand channel partners that allow him to have a lower sales and marketing costs, so he can be more competitive from a pricing perspective, which is a brilliant strategy. The third type of competitive advantage a CEO can typically choose from is customer experience. A god example we can all relate to is the difference between a Four Seasons Hotel, as opposed to the Hilton. They both sell the same thing for the most part, but the Four Season's experience is quite a bit different, so they charge quite a bit more, even though it's the same product. That's called the customer experience. Listen as Mike describes his customer experience advantage. Here is a starting quote from Mike, and you’ll want to hear the full show to unpack this example and apply it to your company: Our longer term sustainable advantage is in our distribution system. Sure, we must stay relevant in our product – The product we have today may only be a part of our portfolio tomorrow. The pace of technology changes, certainly in the marketing technology space, and I'm not sure anyone has an exactly perfect view on where that's going to be. So, we'll have to react to that. But the long-term thing that I think we can build a business on is the unique distribution model and the support that we provide in that space.

School Inc. Episode 2: Push or Pull - Full Video

56:33
Education policy analyst Andrew Coulson travels to Michigan’s prestigious Cranbrook High School, one of the top ten private high schools in America, in “Push or Pull,” the second episode of School, Inc. Cranbrook -- and other excellent private schools in America --typically don’t “scale-up” to replicate their excellence on a larger scale and serve more students. So, is there someplace else where scaling up excellence is happening? The answer is “yes” and it is in America’s charter schools. But when charter schools compete with public schools, there is often trouble ahead. From those involved we hear how the Sabis School, tremendously successful in Springfield, Massachusetts, was prevented from operating in nearby Brockton, because a school superintendent decided such excellence was simply not in the best interest of his public school. For six years the American Indian Charter School, part of a small network of California charter schools, ranked among the top middle schools in California. But in the spring of 2013 the Oakland Public School District voted to shut down all three American Indian Schools, because the charter school had chosen to use its own special education services, and not those controlled by the state; that resulted in a loss of revenue to the public school system. Not every story has a negative outcome. When Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, the city’s vibrant charter schools came to the rescue, and provided the facilities and services which other schools needed to get back on their feet. Finally, Coulson travels to South America, for a comparison of how the success of Chile’s wine industry sets the scene for the growth of the country’s successful private school networks. Chile’s private schools consistently outperform schools in all other Latin American countries, but trouble is always on the horizon. Still the private school networks of Chile provide a note of optimism in Andrew Coulson’s journey to discover the secrets of School, Inc. Class 11 Marketing CBSE Chapter 3 - Segmentation, Targeting and Positioning

08:19
Types of Targeting: Large Segment Strategy: When a market is segmented and marketing resources are limited, the marketer may decide to pursue a large segment strategy. A mass market may be segmented say into three core segments. One of the segments, which is large enough and indicating 50% or more of the market would be the centre of focus. It may also be called as the Single-segment marketing. It means to concentrate organisation’s marketing efforts on a single segment. Unfortunately there are large risks associated with this strategy. Putting all the eggs into one basket can be hazardous. For example one-hour photo has lost to digital photo camera. Adjacent Segment Strategy: When a single segment focus has reached the point of full market penetration. After a single-market segment successful, the marketer opts for adjacent marketing strategy, a closely related segment is attempted next. Suzuki entered the Indian market with the Maruti 800 at the low-price end of the market (presently Alto serves this segment). As Maruti penetrated this segment, it moved to an adjacent segment in terms of price and quality by adding Maruti Zen. Next was entry into a large car segment with Maruti Esteem. Over the last 25 years, Suzuki effectively used an adjacent segment strategy and is a market leader in each segment. Multi-Segment Strategy: Market segmentation opens the door to multiple market-based strategies. For example in case of a power supplier, the segments may include domestic users, government users, commercial establishments, factories, occasional users, etc. The power supplier would serve all the segments at the same time. This strategy is known as multi-segmentation strategy. All of them would require separate marketing mixes. Nike produces shoes for golfers, tennis players, basketball players, for cricketers, and thus serves many segments relating to sports shoes. This strategy is also called as ‘differentiated marketing strategy
