Seattle Cancer Care Alliance denies access to people who wear glasses & to older people

01:14
July 4, 2018: With their choice to use light value, low contrast type in their website - instead of using common-sense fundamentals of graphic design with accessible black, high-contrast type, the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance execs choose to disenfranchise most of the population. ~ They could choose to use functional, accessible graphic design. But needlessly this campaign against access goes in-tandem with their disrespect for the 48 million hearing impaired and or deaf Americans with their ongoing choice to show ads on Seattle area tv network stations that have people speaking but which lack cc's (closed captions). ~ The SCCA is composed of the University of Washington Medical Center, Seattle Children's Hospital and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The UW Medical Center ran tv commercials for years in western Washington without cc's. Now that the UW Medical Ctr is part of the SCCA, they continue the same disrespect and contempt to the hearing impaired, to the deaf, and to seniors and the elderly ~ Years of recommendations to the UW Medical Center and to the president of the Univ of Washington re the lack of cc's have been met by silence. ~ If the SCCA wants to make their website funtional and accessible they could choose to use black, high contrast type. That would go along way towards making the site readable for everyone (and not just for a few younger people who do not wear corrective eye wear) ~ The reason why optometrists only project alpa-numerics (letters and numbers) in black, high-contrast type during patient eye exams is evidently and obviously beyond the understanding of the administrative and medical executive directors of the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and their divisions within. It need not be.

Seattle Children's Hospital: hearing impaired, deaf donors, volunteers, patients, staff not welcome

01:37
Despite numerous complaints - the Seattle Children's Hospital and their corporate allliance colleauges with the The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance: The University of Washington Medical Center and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Care Alliance - each continue to disrespect and show contempt for the 48 million Americans who are hearing impaired and/or deaf with their continuing broadcasting of tv commercials showing people talking but which lack cc's. (closed-captions). ~ Hearing impaired people, friends, family and colleagues of the hearing impaired, and disability rights organization staff, and staff of organizations and non-profits that advocate for the hearing impaired and or the deaf are urged to contact the University of Washington president, the Univ.of Washingon medical center's CEO, President and Chief Medical officer, and the chief medical officers and Presidents of the Seattle Children's Hospital and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and urge them to enfranchise - not disenfranchise - the hearing impaired and deaf. ~ Emails and phone calls to the president of the University of Washington have been met with silence by the staff of the president since 2014 (re the UW Medical Center ads without cc's). By denying access to the hearing impaired and or deaf, the Univ of Washington is violating Federal laws as the recipient of Federal monies. ~ The Univ of Washington continues to run tv commercials in western Washington without cc's. ~ The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance continues to run tv commercials in western Washington without cc's. Time for new leadership who show respect for everyone, including the hearing impaired, the deaf, seniors and the elderly. It is now July 2018.

Preventing Opioid Addiction in Patients With Cancer

02:48
Jaron Mark, M.D., a gynecologic oncology fellow at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, discusses the opioid crisis, and the steps that his institution is taking to combat potential addiction in women who undergo surgery for gynecologic cancer. According to Mark, the crisis started in more than three decades ago when research was published in the New England Journal of Medicine stating that opioid addiction is low in hospitalized patients. People misinterpreted these findings to mean that opioids were not addictive, and by the 1990s, these drugs were being heavily marketed and prescribed. At Roswell Park, Mark and his team found that many women who had surgery for their cancer reported not using the opioids that were prescribed to them. So, they stopped prescribing opioid pills for patients undergoing minimally invasive surgery or minor outpatient procedures.

Native American Herbal Medicine - The Power To Heal

04:52
Native American Herbal Medicine The Power To Heal http://healthynewsarticles.com The Native American natural medication practice is often forgotten these days in favor of Chinese or Ayurvedic practices. This is a great pity when all of the herbs made use of by the indigenous therapists expand wild in the USA. As opposed to expanding them in our yards, we pay thousands of bucks to have the comparable shipped to us in containers from China or India. At the exact same time, we ignore much of the various other lessons that Native American recovery has for us. Generally it was thought that the power of organic medication to recover rests partially in the plants, partially in the healer and also partially in the person being recovered. Today, traditional western medication motivates us to believe that all power lies with the doctors and the medicine. We do not take any type of share of the responsibility for our own sickness or healing, which is a great error. While some plants absolutely have clinically observable impacts, it is likewise true that our perspective when we use a solution has a large amount of power. Belief that the treatment will certainly aid you is necessary, therefore is having an authentic dream to get well that is not undermined by a need for the attention that being ill could get us. The power of organic therapies utilized by Indigenous American individuals was enhanced by the trust fund that they had in the spiritual, nearly magical, power of the healers. The medicine man or shaman was selected inning accordance with his birth position in culture and his all-natural ability. Often there would certainly be a household connection with medication as well as tribal religion. It could be considered that blind confidence in modern medical professionals would certainly have the exact same result, however it does not since the spiritual facet is missing. Medicine was seen as a concern of taking care of the spirit as long as the body, and also numerous ceremonies were exercised both by therapists as well as by the individual being dealt with or his or her family members. A major result of the ceremonies that the healer executed was to enhance his recognition and concentration so that also without any of the research laboratory examinations that are done these days, he could properly identify the issue and see the most effective treatment - not simply for the disease, but for the person. Events taken on by the afflicted individual would certainly cleanse the body and mind to prepare them to make the best possible use of the remedy when it was taken. This spiritual aspect of organic medicine is entirely ignored today. We take herbal solutions in much the same way that we take chemical medications, presuming that the material has all of the power as well as we have none. In fact, several physicians in addition to alternative medical practitioners today would agree that it is the ill individual that does the healing, and not the solution. The body's capability to heal itself, known as homeostasis, goes to the root of all healing. It functions by removing toxic substances, fighting back versus condition with antibodies. All that medicine does is to help the process along and also eliminate challenges to recuperation. If we can avoid the mainstream western sight that the body and mind or spirit are two separate points, the importance of a spiritual facet to recovery becomes really clear. The state of the sick individual's mind is as vital in the recuperation process as the state of his body. This does not imply that we have to carry out tribal dancings or made complex rituals. We could change them with other spiritual practices including reflection as well as prayer. But examining the spiritual aspect of Native American organic medicine could aid us shift our emphasis and understand that in a sense, we constantly have to recover ourselves. This One Nutrient Prevents Breast Cancer, Study Confirms

In fact, 23% of invasive female cancers and 18% of all cancer deaths worldwide are from breast cancer. Breast cancer can also affects men. Although research on breast cancer cure has taken several decades so far, it still hasn’t provided positive results. One study has found that anti-cancer medications based on curcuma can help in the treatment of breast cancer as they destroy cancer cells in the breast. The study, conducted by several specialists in this field including Ramesh C Gupta, Ph.D. from the University of Louisville, found that curcuma can considerably reduce tumor size. Another study conducted by Washington State University scientists at Texas A&M has found that antioxidant compounds in peaches can prevent breast cancer cell growth and development. The study results showed that regular consumption of at least 3 peaches a day can significantly speed up recovery in breast cancer patients. According to the researchers, these compounds can cut down the risk of metastasis, the primary killer in breast and many other cancers, when added to anti-cancer therapies. In laboratory tests, these powerful antioxidants have proved effective in destroying breast cancer cells while leaving the healthy cells intact. During the study, lab mice were given extracts from “Rich Lady” peaches, which killed even the most aggressive breast cancer cells. In the study results, published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry, the researchers explain that certain phenols in the fruit account for the amazing cancer-fighting properties of peaches. They also added that the extracts given to mice were five times more toxic on cancer cells as opposed to normal cells. Follow-up tests also confirmed that the compounds prevented cancer from growing in animals. Unfortunately, breast cancer is constantly on the rise, and only last year 232,000 new breast cancer cases were registered in the US alone. It’s also been estimated that this life-threatening cancer is predominant in Western countries. The fact that these natural phenolic compounds have shown great efficacy in reduction and prevention of breast cancer tumors is very promising for new and more effective treatment of this disease, especially because the chemotherapy agents that are currently used are very toxic and attack healthy cells along with cancerous ones. As the trial only included lab animals, further research is needed to confirm these findings, in which case, peach extracts may really become a promising alternative for breast cancer treatment. *** learn more Natural-Remedies → http://the-serious-healthy.com/Natural-Remedies

Deep State's Death Blow to America's Working Class? Opioid Crisis, Big Pharma, & Death of Gary Webb

09:31
Big pharma companies are now facing a record number of lawsuits for their part in sparking America's opiod epidemic. The Daily Caller reports that as of 2016 "opioid overdose made up a staggering 66 percent of all drug overdose deaths --- surpassing the annual number of lives lost to breast cancer." They go on to report that there are now over 75 cities and states mounting lawsuits against pharmaceutical companies for helping spark the crisis through "knowingly false advertising." Last week, officials in Winnebago County, Wis., joined 11 other counties in another massive lawsuit against big pharmaceutical companies, claiming that drug makers "flooded patients with dangerous prescription opioids" while fully aware that, “their opioid products were addictive, subject to abuse, and not safe or efficacious for long-term use,” reports Oshkosh Northwestern. In some ways, this current crisis can be compared to the emergence of the crack-cocaine epidemic in the 1980's and 1990's. Several theories have claimed that the CIA intentionally ignited the crack-cocaine epidemic back in the 1980's as a means to generate revenue for secret operations, with others believing that their goal was to intentionally target and break down African American families. Gary Webb wrote about the CIA's intentional flooding of crack-cocaine into African American communities in 1996. An article from The Telegraph summarizes his findings with some key quotes from Webb's book 'Dark Alliance': [Quote] “It is one of the most bizarre alliances in modern history. The union of a U.S. backed army attempting to overthrow a revolutionary socialist government and the uzi-toting “gangstas” of Compton and South-Central Los Angeles.” Perhaps most damningly, Webb wrote that crack was virtually unobtainable in the city’s black neighbourhoods before “members of the CIA’s army” began supplying it at rock-bottom prices in the Eighties. "For the better part of a decade,” he wrote in the intro to the first piece in the trilogy, “a San Francisco Bay Area drug ring sold tonnes of cocaine to the Crips and Bloods street gangs of Los Angeles, and funnelled millions in drug profits to a Latin American guerrilla army run by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. He wrote about the cocaine trafficking trial of a former Contra leader named Oscar Danilo Blandon Reyes who he said testified that the CIA agent who commanded the guerrilla army told them that “the ends justify the means,” and that they sold almost a tonne of cocaine in 1981 alone, the profits of which were going to the Contra revolution." [/End Quote] After publishing this damning evidence against the CIA, Webb died in mysterious circumstances "Webb was found dead in his Carmichael home on December 10, 2004, with two gunshot wounds to the head." His death was then unbelievably ruled "a suicide" by the Sacramento County coroner's office." For years whistle blowers have alleged that the CIA has pushed conflict in the Middle East as a means of securing resources for the productions of opiates which are then transported to the West. In his book Rogue State, former State Department employee William Blum called out the CIA for their role in the cultivation and transportation of opium around the world. “The CIA flew the drugs all over Southeast Asia, to sites where the opium was processed into heroin, and to trans-shipment points on the route to Western customers.” Is the opioid crisis this decades version of the same nefarious Deep State tactics which tore apart African American communities, now being aimed primarily at white working class families? In October, President Trump called the opioid epidemic a "public health emergency". However, Jeff Sessions appears to be cracking down on relatively harmless marijuana use, while big pharma continues to push much more dangerous opioids to the public, as drug overdoses have now become the biggest killer of Americans under 50. Is the opioid crisis just the result of corporate greed? Or was this intended to be an intentional death blow against the struggling working class? meRIT Webinar: Tracing Our Ancestors Using Genetics to Investigate Genealogy

56:38
Can DNA testing help us understand the African American experience? Rick Kittles Ph.D. '89 is a leading voice on the ethical issues and controversies surrounding this question. Join us for a webinar investigating the science of DNA and its varied utility, how ancestry is inferred and its growing interest, and the significance of tracing African ancestry among African Americans in particular. **Presenter: Rick Kittles, Professor and founding director of the Division of Health Equities within the Department of Population Sciences at the City of Hope (COH)** Rick Kittles, Ph.D., is Professor and founding director of the Division of Health Equities within the Department of Population Sciences at the City of Hope (COH). He is also Associate Director of Health Equities of COH Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Kittles is well known for his research of prostate cancer and health disparities among African Americans. Dr. Kittles’ research has focused on understanding the complex issues surrounding race, genetic ancestry, and health disparities. Dr. Kittles received a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from George Washington University in 1998. His first faculty appointment was at Howard University where he helped establish the National Human Genome Center at Howard University. Over the last twenty years he has been at the forefront of the development of ancestry-informative genetic markers, and how genetic ancestry can be quantified and utilized in genomic studies on disease risk and outcomes. His work has shown the impact of genetic variation across populations in pharmacogenomics, biomarker discovery, and disease gene mapping. Although a major focus of Dr. Kittles’ work over the past years has been on measuring and utilizing West African admixture in studies of genetic disease among African Americans, presently he is expanding his research focus to further include Latino and Native American populations to further enhance the robustness of the experimental design of his research studies. Dr. Kittles has NIH-funded projects to study genetic and environmental modifiers of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels in order to improve our understanding of the role serum Vitamin D plays in health disparities. He is leading a multi-site collaboration studying modifiers of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels and their role on prostate cancer susceptibility. In 2010 Dr. Kittles was named in Ebony magazine’s “The Ebony Power 100.” Ebony selected the nation's top 100 African-American "power players" in sports, academia, religion, business, environment, science & tech, entertainment, arts and letters, fashion, politics, media, activism and health. In March of 2012 Dr. Kittles presented the Keynote Address to the United Nations General Assembly, “International Day of Remembrance of Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade.” Recently Dr. Kittles was named by The Huffington Post as one of “Fifty Iconic Black Trailblazers Who Represent Every State In America.”

BREAKING John McCain Rushed To Hospital Over Weekend… Here’s What We Know

BREAKING John McCain Rushed To Hospital Over Weekend… Here’s What We Know Source: https://goo.gl/3JMHAq Washington, D.C. – The office of Senator John McCain (R-AZ) released the following statement today: “On Sunday, Senator McCain was admitted to Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona, and underwent surgery to treat an intestinal infection related to diverticulitis. He is in stable condition. “Over the last few months, Senator McCain has been participating in physical therapy at his home in Cornville, Arizona, as he recovers from the side effects of cancer treatment. He has remained engaged on his work as Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and has enjoyed frequent visits from his family, friends, staff and Senate colleagues. “Senator McCain and his family are grateful to the senator’s excellent care team, and appreciate the support and prayers they continue to receive from people all over the country.” McCain, 81, who is also battling brain cancer, is said to be in “stable condition” after he was admitted to the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Fox News reports. Meghan McCain, the senator’s daughter and current co-host of “The View,” noted her father’s “intense grit and determination” in a Monday evening tweet. “Thank you to the doctors at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix and to everyone who is praying for him,” she tweeted. Fox reported thatMcCain, the long-time Republican Arizona senator and 2008 GOP presidential nominee, was diagnosed in July with brain cancer. “The prognosis is very, very serious,” McCain said at the time. “Some say three percent, some say 14 percent. It’s a very poor prognosis. So, I just said, ‘I understand, now we’re going to do what we can, get the best doctors we can find, and do the best we can.’ And, at the same time, celebrate with gratitude a life well-lived.” According to the American Brain Tumor Association, more than 12,000 people a year are diagnosed with glioblastoma, a particularly aggressive type of brain tumor. The American Cancer Society puts the five-year survival rate for patients over 55 at about 4 percent. Retire already dude. You and your fat daughter are liberals that hate Trump and none of us Deplorables want you around anymore. We wish you the best.

Preclinical cancer-target validation: How not to be wrong

01:05:27
Preclinical cancer-target validation: How not to be wrong Air date: Wednesday, January 24, 2018, 3:00:00 PM Category: WALS - Wednesday Afternoon Lectures Runtime: 01:05:27 Description: Wednesday Afternoon Lecture Series Published and unpublished studies by investigators in the pharmaceutical industry indicate that a disturbingly high number of academic laboratories' reports nominating potential new cancer-drug targets are either non-reproducible or, if reproducible, are not sufficiently robust to form the basis for drug-discovery efforts. The reasons are likely multifactorial, including the ubiquitous use of "down" assays in cancer biology (e.g. decreased cell proliferation, decreased tumor growth, etc.) that incorporate chemical and genetic perturbants that are prone to cause off-target effects, failure to adequately correct for multiple hypothesis testing, flawed logic when inferring causality from correlative data, and publication bias in favor of "positive" results. Improving the veracity and robustness of preclinical target-validation studies will require setting higher standards in terms of the logic, controls, and corroboration underlying their conclusions. These standards will hopefully discourage the now common practice of relegating target identification and validation experiments to the last figures of papers in an (often gratuitous) attempt to justify their "clinically relevance." Real translation happens when one has finally gathered enough knowledge to know what can be done, not by coercing basic scientists to be translational scientists. India Must Resist Diktats From US On Iran, Russia

07:20
What is wrong with the United States? Why is it issuing “sanction threats” to all and sundry? Why is it pressuring India against buying crude oil from Iran and the S-400 missile defence system from Russia? Such crude “gunboat diplomacy” by this superpower is saddening. Indeed, it is time for India to stand up and tell the US to keep away from meddling in the affairs of sovereign India, which is neither a part of the Western bloc nor a colony of any foreign power. India must tell the US that it comprises 1.3 billion heads, and is not an island state of 60,000 or even six million that can be easily bullied. India reserves the right to purchase its crude oil from wherever it gets the best price in the open market, and has every right to take care of its economic and security system in accordance with its needs. These threats by Washington only shows the acute sense of insecurity that it seems to be suffering from. Does it feel threatened by those who may not be in tune with its diktats? If that happens to be the case, then New Delhi must advise Washington to not become a victim of an avoidable, self-created and self-inflicted state of tension, that could easily lead to costly mistakes. Indeed, India should take its cue from Bruce Riedel, a former senior adviser to four US Presidents on the Middle East and South Asia, and show that Washington should take note of India’s concerns and not aimlessly fire in the air. It’s time to prove the US wrong to establish a favourable counter-point of diplomacy vis-a-vis the US attempts to thwart India’s sovereign state power. Bruce Riedel wrote in his book Avoiding Armageddon (2013): “In 1991, Robert Gates, US deputy national security adviser, was meeting Indian Army chief Gen. S.F. Rodrigues, during his visit to Washington... Gates urged India to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)... Rodrigues interrupted Gates almost immediately, asking: ‘Why are you reading me these talking points?... You speak about the importance of the NPT and want us to give up the nuclear option. America is the only country ever to use the bomb on an enemy, and you have built thousands of them. Yet you tell us not to do what you have done! And you give Pakistan F-16s to deliver its nuclear attack on our cities’.” Hats off to Gen. Rodrigues! He did what most Indian diplomats couldn’t or wouldn’t do, and had the guts and the gumption to tell the truth and show the US deputy NSA the mirror. Riedel’s final words, however, counter-mirrored the Indian government’s perennially inexplicable “softness” towards the US: “The general was simply more passionate in his denunciation and showed the new world order than the mostly soft-spoken Indian diplomats.” In 1991, the US message was clear. First, it’s the “new world order” of the monopolistic US player. Second, the general was “passionate” in professing his — and India’s — views. He took his job too seriously as he didn’t realise that the US was the boss and all the others pygmies. And third, the general was not the “competent” person to speak about India-US bilateral relations — for, after all, it is the “mostly soft-spoken Indian diplomats” who are authorised to do the serious business of diplomacy. Whether their softness is effective or not is another matter altogether. Riedel also clearly demonstrated the reality of the Indian establishment — how India has always acted in a weak-kneed manner before the US, except during the 1970s when then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi showed the Richard Nixon-Henry Kissinger duo their place in matters relating to South Asia in general and India’s looming 1971 East Pakistan-Bangladesh crisis in particular. In reality, the US still gives the impression that it lives by the old adage — “once the boss, always the boss, come what may”. That’s fine in a structured government hierarchy and in the military, but not in international relations and human behaviour. Should every nation follow each and every command coming from the United States? Is it even possible for an independent, sovereign country of 1.3 billion people like India to do so repeatedly? The Heat: China's two-child policy Pt 3

12:11
It has been more than two years since China abandoned its decades old one-child policy. Since 2016, all Chinese couples are allowed to have two children. But, so far the results have been mixed. Last year, China had 17.2 million live births, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. That number represents a small drop from 2016 when the number of children born in China reached 17.9 million. Despite the change in policy, some families still prefer to have just one child. The reasons include issues like the cost of raising children, housing, child care and fewer women of childbearing age. To discuss: Baozhen Luo is an associate professor in the department of sociology at Western Washington University. Song Zhang is the chief correspondent for the Shanghai Wen Hui Daily in the Washington D.C. Bureau. Wang Feng is a professor of sociology at the University of California, Irvine and the former director of the Brookings-Tsinghua Center for Public Policy. Richard Jackson is the president of the Global Aging Institute.

Meeting the Climate-Change Challenge - John P. Holdren

01:25:38
Dr. John P. Holdren, who served as President Obama’s Science Advisor and the Director of the White Office of Science and Technology Policy through both Obama terms, was responsible for interpreting, for the President, the state of climate-change science and its implications for policy. The analyses he provided played a major role in shaping the Administration’s climate-change policy, including the President’s June 2013 Climate Action Plan and the U.S. stance in the December 2015 negotiation of the Paris accord. In this talk, he updates his assessment of what the science is telling us about the urgency of increased ambition in addressing the climate-change challenge and will reflect on the gulf between Obama’s stance on this issue and Trump’s.
