American Cancer Society (ACS) Survivor's Day San Antonio 1991

05:12
In 1991, I produced a video of a special day in the life of cancer survivors and their families. It was the Annual Cancer Survivor's day. The good people at ACS liked my presentation so much, they asked if they could be shown at a benefit banquet later that year. Many thanks to all the survivors and their families, The folks at ACS and mostly Steve Winwood for writing such a powerful, heartwarming song. Homeless Woman With Cancer in San Antonio

Mama D lost her apartment in San Antonio, Texas. She has cancer and is out in the streets. But now the city only has one homeless services so she'd rather sleep outside than be in 'prison' ________________________________________________ Subscribe here: https://www.youtube.com/c/invisiblepeople?sub_confirmation=1 Invisible People’s website: http://invisiblepeople.tv Support Invisible People: https://invisiblepeople.tv/donate On Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/invisiblepeople Invisible People’s Social Media: https://www.youtube.com/invisiblepeople https://twitter.com/invisiblepeople https://www.instagram.com/invisiblepeople https://www.facebook.com/invisiblepeopletv Mark Horvath’s Twitter: https://twitter.com/hardlynormal About Invisible People: Since its launch in November 2008, Invisible People has leveraged the power of video and the massive reach of social media to share the compelling, gritty, and unfiltered stories of homeless people from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. The vlog (video blog) gets up close and personal with veterans, mothers, children, layoff victims and others who have been forced onto the streets by a variety of circumstances. Each week, they’re on InvisiblePeople.tv, and high traffic sites such as YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, proving to a global audience that while they may often be ignored, they are far from invisible. Invisible People goes beyond the rhetoric, statistics, political debates, and limitations of social services to examine poverty in America via a medium that audiences of all ages can understand, and can’t ignore. The vlog puts into context one of our nation’s most troubling and prevalent issues through personal stories captured by the lens of Mark Horvath – its founder – and brings into focus the pain, hardship and hopelessness that millions face each day. One story at a time, videos posted on InvisiblePeople.tv shatter the stereotypes of America’s homeless, force shifts in perception and deliver a call to action that is being answered by national brands, nonprofit organizations and everyday citizens now committed to opening their eyes and their hearts to those too often forgotten. Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the way we think about people experiencing homelessness. Haven For Hope is a newly opened shelter in town. I only spent a little time there. Although the facility is impressive their solution seems more like institutionalizing homelessness. Please note that I never asked anyone to speak about this shelter, yet in every interview that was the topic. Street talk about services is not always honest, but in this situation, and from my own tour of Haven of Hope, I have to agree that this is not a way to treat people. Even for my interview they only allowed me to talk to the Head of Secretary. The 'airport security' and giving people the title of "prospects" and "members" gave me the creeps. But my concern is that homeless people in San Antonio are no longer given the freedom of choice. ________________________________________________ Subscribe here: https://www.youtube.com/c/invisiblepeople?sub_confirmation=1 Invisible People’s website: http://invisiblepeople.tv Support Invisible People: https://invisiblepeople.tv/donate On Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/invisiblepeople Invisible People’s Social Media: https://www.youtube.com/invisiblepeople https://twitter.com/invisiblepeople https://www.instagram.com/invisiblepeople https://www.facebook.com/invisiblepeopletv Mark Horvath’s Twitter: https://twitter.com/hardlynormal Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the way we think about people experiencing homelessness.

Breast implants cancer: Houston, Austin, Dallas, San Antonio

06:58
There have been many studies and many concerns about breast implants causing ductal carcinoma of the breast, the most common form of breast cancer. The silicone in breast implants is sterile and medical grade. Studies have shown that this substance does not cause any harm to the body, including ductal carcinoma. About 80% of all breast cancers are invasive ductal carcinomas. However, recently the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) identified a possible association between breast implants and the development of anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL), a very rare cancer of the immune system. It is believed that women with breast implants may have a very low but increased risk of developing ALCL. There is ongoing research to fully understand the relationship between ALCL and breast implants. ALCL is a cancer of the lymphatic system and can develop in various parts of the body; it can initially appear in the skin, in lymph nodes, or in organs throughout the body. Rarely, it may develop in the breast. According to the National Cancer Institute, ALCL is diagnosed in about 1 out of 500,000 women a year in the United States, and ALCL in the breast is diagnosed in only 3 in 100 million women a year in the United States. Recent studies have determined that the surface texture of an implant may affect the risk of ALCL in the breast; most patients with ALCL after breast augmentation have textured implants. If you have breast implants, these new findings aren't a call to change your treatment plan or to have your breast implants removed, but you will need to follow up with your surgeon in the event that you develop unusual symptoms after breast augmentation. Late-onset seroma and periprosthetic effusion are a rather common presentation for ALCL, and few patients present with a firm mass. Other non-specific symptoms are breast enlargement, tenderness, redness, and capsular contracture. Remember, the possibility of ALCL is very remote. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in the Asian American Community

43:25
Speaker: Lisa Eng & Kate Shen The American Cancer Society (ACS) is involved in the fight against breast cancer in many areas. Through its extramural research grants program, as of March 1, 2009 the Society was funding 218 research projects being conducted by an elite group of scientists. These projects were chosen through a rigorous peer review and selection process and all of them relate to breast cancer. This funding amounts to $118.1 million research dollars. Due to language and cultural barriers, many Asian immigrants do not have access to cancer prevention information, screenings, cancer care services and patient support programs. This disparity in health care results in a high cancer related mortality. In response to this need, American Cancer Society, Eastern Division launched the Asian Initiatives office in 2006. The goals of the American Cancer Society - Asian Initiatives are: (1) to promote public education on cancer prevention including community forums, radio and television educational programs, and translation of cancer related information into various Asian languages; (2) to arrange free screening services for breast cancer, cervical cancer, colon cancer and hepatitis B; (3) to provide free smoking cessation counseling and nicotine replacement therapy to help smokers quit; (4) to provide free services for cancer patients such as patient navigation, individual counseling, support groups, transportation for chemo/radiation therapy, pre or post surgery support, etc., and (5) to organize volunteer-driven community events, such as 'Relay For Life', and 'Making Strides Against Breast Cancer' to raise awareness about cancer prevention, early detection and survivorship while raising funds to support our programs and services. In order to continue providing our free programs and services to the diverse Asian population of New York City, we are seeking volunteers who are fluent in Chinese, Korean, Hindi, Bengali, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati, Japanese, or Vietnamese. For this presentation, Dr. Lisa Eng and Ms. Kate Shen will discuss the following regarding breast cancer in the Asian American community: - Breast Basics -- Anatomy, function - Disease entities -- benign and malignant - Screening - Treatment - Prognosis - US Asian American Breast Cancer Research Updates - Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk
