Crash of Piper PA-24 Comanche Kills Six In Arizona (With ATC)

01:31
On April 9, 2018, about 2048 mountain standard time, a Piper PA-24-260 airplane, N9456P, was destroyed when it impacted terrain shortly after takeoff from Scottsdale Airport (SDL), Scottsdale, Arizona. The 32-year-old airline transport pilot, student pilot, and 4 passengers were fatally injured. All onboard ranged in age between 22 and 32 and the group was en-route to Las Vegas "to party." The airplane was registered to N9456P, LLC and operated by the pilots as a personal flight under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. Night time visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and a flight plan was not filed. The airport destination for the not-happening-anymore Vegas vacation was North Las Vegas Airport (VGT), Las Vegas, Nevada. Earlier that evening, the air transport pilot flew the airplane from VGT to SDL with the intention of picking up the passengers and flying them back to VGT. The inbound flight was his first flight in the airplane. Preliminary information indicated that the flight departed from VGT at 1842, and landed at SDL at 2018. The airplane was equipped with 6 seats. A video surveillance camera at SDL, located on the ramp where the airplane was parked, captured the occupants begin to board the airplane about 2028. The footage revealed that two female passengers boarded the airplane first and were seated in the two aft seats. Next, a male passenger boarded the airplane and initially sat in the middle right seat but moved to the middle left seat when the third female passenger boarded; she then occupied the middle right seat. The student pilot then occupied the front left seat and the airline transport pilot occupied the front right seat. An onboard video posted to social media by the female passenger in the middle row incorrectly depicted the locations of each occupant, because the video was posted as a mirror image. Footage from a midfield surveillance camera on the west side of the runway showed the airplane departing from runway 03, and appeared to indicate that the airplane's wings were rocking during and shortly after rotation. A witness at the airport reported to investigators that she noticed no sights sounds that might have indicated mechanical difficulties. This video, captured by a traffic camera only a half-mile northwest of the end of the runway, shows what happened next. The airplane came to rest in a golf course about a quarter-mile north of the end of the departure runway. The main cabin was mostly consumed by fire. The outboard section of the right wing was separated, and in addition to thermal damage, exhibited substantial impact crush damage. The inboard section of the right wing remained attached to the fuselage, and the majority of the left wing was found separated from the fuselage. The wreckage was recovered to a secure facility for subsequent detailed examination. Something to know about smaller general aviation aircraft: Weight and balance are a big deal and it's very easy to overload a general aviation plane. Additionally, most smaller general aviation aircraft have an "extra" pair of seats. Similar to tent sizes, a four-seater aircraft (with fuel) can realistically fly just two adults with some bags and a six-seater can comfortably handle just four adults and some bags. This six-seater - fueled for a flight to Vegas - was carrying six adults and their bags, and was likely overweight. The NTSB has not yet released a probable cause for this crash, but it would be a big surprise if weight and balance aren't highlighted. This crash was likely very avoidable, and it should serve as a reminder to pilots everywhere that saying "no" in the face of pressure to fly is an essential and life-preserving skill. Note: Silence in the ATC audio has been truncated. Accordingly, the audio timing does not accurately represent communications relative to what you are seeing in the video. It's close, though.

Discovery Channel - Large Asteroid Impact Simulation

04:46
● Discovery Channel - Large Asteroid Impact Simulation (2008). Earth was born as a result of repeated asteroid collisions, the moon was created by a single giant impact event. Then, Earth's size attracted huge meteorites, which slammed into it, causing super-high-temperature rock vapour to cover the entire surface and evaporate all ocean water. The earliest life-forms survived such infernal events by escaping deep into the ground, miraculously emerging again and again. The Earth has gone through innumerable catastrophic events, and life has survived by acquiring new abilities to live through each crisis. Humans are part of the grand history of life's evolution, which has been closely intertwined with repeated cataclysmic events. Learn what would happen if an asteroid hit the Earth with this detailed "Large Asteroid Impact Simulation". An asteroid with a diameter of 500 km. Destination: The Pacific Ocean. The impact peels the 10 km crust off the surface. The shockwave travels at hypersonic speeds. Debris is blasted across into low Earth orbit, and returns to destroy the surface of the Earth. The firestorm encircles the Earth, vaporizing all life in its way. Within one day, the surface of the Earth is uninhabitable. The evidence shows that this has happened at least six times in Earth's history. Arizona Department of Transportation : Stoplights and Street Lights

05:05
Arizona Department of transportation (ADOT) is about to begin installation of a stop light at Highway 89a and Airport Road in Sedona. While in itself, this sounds benign, looking at the entire roadway as it winds through Sedona, it is out of character with the long range plans for Sedona. Doesn't matter...ADOT says they are installing the lights, like it or not. And they are blazing forward with the most disastrous plan of all: continuous roadway lighting through the heart of our town. 70% of the community are opposed to continuous roadway lighting. 97% of all accidents occur during daylight hours and yet ADOT is planning to install lights. Smells like politics and money to us. Stay tuned as this unfolds. Some have pledged civil disobedience to stop the bulldozers ...

Also known as Kern County Airport #1, it is in Oildale, California. Federal Aviation Administration records show 141,847 passenger boardings (enplanements) in calendar year 2008,[2] 103,067 in 2009 and 111,699 in 2010.[3] The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015 categorized it as a primary commercial service airport (more than 10,000 enplanements per year).[4] History[edit] Aviation has been linked to Kern County almost as long as the existence of the industry. In 1891 Charles Howard ascended in a hot air balloon to 1,000 feet (300 m). He then proceeded to jump and landed safely with a parachute he designed and constructed. By 1910, only seven years after the Wright Brothers first airplane flight, aircraft began arriving in the county. They were brought in by Glenn Curtiss (in conjunction with the Kern County Board of Trade). The first flight in the area was flown by Charles Hamilton.[5] Terminal at Meadows Field Bakersfield then had two airfields. The more prominent field was at Sacramento and Monterey streets in East Bakersfield (at the time, primarily empty fields). It was named Bernard Field and was run by the Pacific Aero Club. The field would be a stop for US Air Mail from 1923 to 1926 (when that was moved to Meadows Field). Another airfield was on the Panorama Bluffs in Northeast Bakersfield where Greenlawn Mortuary is today.[5] With the development of commercial air service Bakersfield needed a purpose-built commercial airport. In 1926 the Kern County Chamber of Commerce constructed and operated a new airport called Kern County Airport No. 1. Originally at the intersection of U.S. Route 99 and Norris Road, the following year it was moved one mile east to its current location.[6][7] The original facility had one runway, one terminal building, and a few hangars and other aircraft-related buildings. In 1935 Kern County bought the airport from the Chamber of Commerce. It was the first county-owned airport in the nation.[7] __ Affiliate Disclosure: I may earn a commission for my endorsement, recommendation, testimonial, and/or link to any products or services from the links above. Engine Trouble in Buckeye, Arizona (KBXK)

20:37
This video was recorded on July 18 during the first loss of power. On my climb out from Buckeye, Arizona on July 18, I experienced a partial power loss. I was climbing at Vy and was not receiving the climb rate that I should have been. Upon further investigation, I noticed and heard that I was losing between 200 and 400 RPM every 15 seconds or so. At that time, and after a little discussion with ATC, I elected to return to Buckeye Municipal Airport. Luckily for me, I managed to make a fully powered precautionary landing. The airplane was obviously not airworthy right at the time, but I was safe and the airplane wasn't bent. I, under the advise of the operator of the airplane, played test pilot the following day out in Buckeye. I took the airplane down to the runup area and did a full-power static run-up. Didn't have any issues with it this time on the ground like I did yesterday. Called the operator again and he suggested I test-fly the airplane at 5000 feet over the airport and see of the problem occurs again. It did not. So I landed back at Buckeye, collected my belongings, filed a flight plan, and departed. Upon circling over the field at 6,700 climbing to 8,500, I experienced my first power loss of the flight. I went from 2400 RPM to 2250. The operator and I had discussed this and come to the conclusion that the culprit might be vapor lock and to activate the auxiliary fuel pump. I did so and the problem was resolved. I continued my climb to 8500 and departed for the first checkpoint on my cross country home. About 2 miles from the first checkpoint, I decided to disengage the electric fuel pump seeing as though the vapor lock issue should have sorted itself out at that altitude. The outside air temperature was 64 Farenheit. Upon disengaging the aux-pump, I experienced an immediate loss of 600 RPM, dropping from 2500 to 1900. I quickly reengaged the auxiliary fuel pump which again resolved the problem. After debating whether to continue the flight or not for several minutes (beware of get-there-itis) I elected to test the system once again. Same results, immediate 600 RPM loss. At this time I decided to return to Buckeye airport and not fly the airplane home. After discussing my options with the operator of the aircraft, I elected to buy myself a commercial airline ticket home instead of wait until tomorrow in Buckeye for another 172 + instructor to fly out to me. All in all, I feel confident in my decision. It is my opinion that the issue is not a vapor-lock problem, but rather a partial failure of the engine-driven mechanical fuel pump. I have been told that the aircraft in question has experienced a similar loss in power twice in the last two weeks, but outside of vapor-lock conditions. Each time, the aircraft was grounded, inspected, and the problem was assumed to have been fixed. This experience has taught me three things though, one of which I had already suspected: 1. If something doesn't seem right, it isn't. 2. Never, under any circumstances, be afraid to terminate a flight. Ask ATC for help, they were more than accommodating throughout this whole process. 3. When you start flying, you are given a full bag of luck and and empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before the bag of luck runs out. Fly safe everyone, and I will gladly answer any questions you might have.

Airspace Explained for RC Pilots

08:46
Recently the FAA published an "interpretation" of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act in relation to radio controlled model aircraft. In it, they stated that if you are planning to fly within 5 miles of an airport, you needed to notify the airport operator first. This video shows you how you can determine if you live near an airport and how to find the phone number to call the operator. I think if we all do this, we will soon overwhelm these airport operators and they will in turn complain to the FAA about it- and hopefully the FAA will be forced to rescind this silly requirement. I made a couple mistakes while talking, but I think I caught them all and wrote notes in the video to correct them. If I made any mistakes or you have any general comments or questions, please feel free to leave a comment below.

New immigration guidelines' impact on local law enforcement

The White House has spelled out its new guidelines for attacking illegal immigration, but it's still unclear how authorities will target and deport people who are living in the U.S. illegally. Carter Evans went directly to the front lines of the nation's border wars to see how local law enforcement in Arizona is handling the issue. ADOT - Arizona Dept. of Transportation

02:36
http:phoenix.jobing.com The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is a multi-modal transportation agency serving one of the fastest growing areas of the country. ADOT is responsible for planning, building and operating a complex highway system in addition to building and maintaining bridges and the Grand Canyon Airport. A major component of the organization is the Motor Vehicle Division which provides title, registration and driver license services to the general public throughout the state of Arizona. ADOT is funded by the people who purchase fuel, drive or own private and commercial vehicles, or use transportation services. Individuals and businesses invest money through fuel taxes, motor carrier fees, vehicle title, registration and license fees, to build and operate the state's transportation systems. About 80 percent of the money ADOT collects returns to the private sector in the form of paychecks and payment for transportation services and materials. Transportation puts people to work building projects. Projects, in turn, deliver goods and services that spur economic development and attract jobs to the state, creating a cycle of economic benefit. We at ADOT strive to successfully deliver a range of transportation projects in an economic environment with fewer employees and declining resources. Like you, we are trying to do more with less as we sharpen our focus on results for Arizona. We continue to examine diverse, integrated transportation options for moving people and goods to create jobs and deliver economic and quality-of-life benefits for Arizona residents and businesses. ADOT's role is to assist policymakers by providing objective information that helps them decide the best solutions to connect communities across Arizona with the full range of resources available. Get to know more about a great career with ADOT - Arizona State Department of Transportation!

Hughes Access Road Relocation & Groundbreaking Ceremony

03:01
The beginning of construction of the new Aerospace Parkway marks a major milestone in Pima County's economic development efforts. It is one initiative of a multi-faceted plan we're calling the Sonoran Corridor, which seeks to protect and nurture this region's largest private employer and to open the lands south of Tucson International Airport to development that could potentially make Pima County one of the Southwest's largest manufacturing and logistics hubs. This project realigns Hughes Access Road 2,500 feet to the south and renames the road Aerospace parkway. The relocation gives Raytheon Missile Systems the buffers from traffic and encroachment required by the federal government for its defense contracts. The relocation also provides a buffer for the Arizona Air National Guard's 162nd Fighter Wing, makes room for a much-needed second runway at Tucson International Airport, and will serve as access to an aerospace and defense manufacturing technical park. AZ 51 South - The Piestewa Freeway - Through Phoenix - Entire Route

03:11
IMPORTANT: Starting February 20th, 2018, my channel will no longer be eligible for monetization because I do not have 1,000 subscribers. I ask that if you enjoyed this video, and would like to see more from me, please consider subscribing or becoming a Patreon supporter. My goal is to reach 1,000 subscribers by the end of 2018. Please help us reach that goal! Originally called the Squaw Peak Parkway, it was named after the mountain in the background of the video near Cactus Rd that the highway snakes around. In the early 1990s, the American Indian Movement petitioned for the mountain to be renamed, as the word squaw is considered derogatory towards Native American women in many tribes. The request it to be renamed Iron Mountain, what the original name of the mountain translated to in English, but that was declined as the state was unsure as to which mountain that name was originally applied to. (It was thought to be another peak in the same Phoenix Range.) In 2003, then Governor Janet Napolitano petitioned the state to rename the mountain to Piestewa Peak, in honor of Lori Ann Piestewa, a member of the Hopi tribe and Arizona native, who was the first Native American woman to die in battle. She died just a month before the renaming, causing controversy due to the state's rule against naming a natural feature after someone who had died less than 5 years prior. The Governor was ultimately successful, but the name was not recognized federally for the same reason. Ultimately, the name change was approved federally prior to the 5 year period. When the mountain was renamed in her honor, so was the freeway. Now, as for the highway itself. Originally in early documents, a small stub Interstate was planned for Phoenix that branched off the major Interstate in town. The planned route was not eventual I-10, as the route followed US 80 to San Diego. This plan was later ditched in favor of two new interstate highways, one from San Diego to Tucson (later trimmed to Casa Grande, now I-8) and one from Los Angeles to Phoenix (part of I-10). This made the stub highway a branch of I-10, and was assigned chargeable Interstate status as I-510, approved in 1958. Conflicting reports exist as to why the highway was scrapped. Some say it was because Phoenix did not reach it's expected population in the 1960s. Others say it was abandoned due to freeway revolts. The original plans for I-510 had it going north along 7th St from the Maricopa Freeway (then I-10/I-17, now I-17). The route was later moved to 20th St. The first, and only, portion signed as I-510 was built in the 1960's. It ran from the Maricopa Freeway to Buckeye Rd, and was little more than an upgraded interchange to serve the airport. This portion was later reworked to become part of the I-10 Inner Loop (Freeway). This is also why the eastern portion of I-10 and southern portion of SR 57 both align along 20th St and meet in a perfect 'T' at the Mini Stack (the addition of the Loop 202 Red Mountain Fwy made it into a perfect '+') I-510 was dropped from the system in 1968 when I-410 was approved to replace most of it's route. I-410 ran from the I-10/I-17 Black Canyon Freeway to the I-10/I-17 Maricopa Freeway. This plan encompassed most of downtown Phoenix into a rectangle of freeways. I-410 was meant to connect to the eventual Papago Freeway, also part of I-10. Later, I-410 was dropped and became part of I-10 itself, now called the Inner Loop. This freeway was the last portion of I-10 to be completed; it was finished in 1991 with the completion of the Papago Tunnel under downtown. Modern SR 51 was adopted into the State Highway System in 1968 as State Route 510, Squaw Peak Freeway. The planning never went any further until the City of Phoenix took it upon it’s self to build the road as the Squaw Peak Parkway. It set aside money to build highway, and was able to complete the section from Glendale Ave to McDowell Rd (1:53 to 2:47 in the video) before running out of funding. That is why this portion of the freeway isn’t up to modern ADOT specs and has a speed limit of 55 MPH. When the Phoenix transpiration plan was brought to voters in the 1980s, it included a plan for the state to take over the portion of the Squaw Peak Parkway the city of Phoenix built and extend it to a full freeway interchange with I-10 and the Red Mountain Freeway (also in the plan, now Loop 202), and to the Pima Freeway (also in the plan, now Loop 101). The route would assume it’s old Interstate number, minus the unneeded zero at the end, and become State Route 51. The final route is what you see today. It’s longer than I-510 was planned to be, but probably what it would have eventually ended up as. 24/7 Live AZ Skies -360 Panoramic/Moon Live Stream

11:54:51
FIRST, would like to thank all new subs.. This originally started as strictly a moon stream, but has morphed to a bit more. The continual stream is a 360` panoramic view of the north Phoenix area of Arizona. On the nights when weather permits and time schedule allows, I break out the scope and get close ups of the moon. I use a Celestron 114LCM telescope and a Twinstar Pro series color camera while on the moon. While on the 360` cam.. the direction while looking at the flags is north, and the mountain top is south. This is only a hobby for me that I don't mind sharing. If you enjoy, hit the thumb up thingy, if not, feel free to say that too... I plan to continue either way. So long as my equipment is up and running at least (sometimes there are issues beyond my control). The images broadcast are the sole property of Gary El 24/7 AZ Skies and may not be rebroadcast or copied without prior permission. Feel free to contact through YouTube home page or if I am in chat. When it comes to chat.. so long as everyone is respectful, it will remain open at all times. Feel free to share opinions, but do not mock anyone else for their beliefs or opinions of their own. Trolls will be played with until they become boring. But I do encourage open minded chat and all topics are welcome, so long as they are not offensive.

India One Solar Thermal Power Project - Glimpses - Brahma Kumaris

05:01
India One Solar Thermal Power Project Venue: Aburoad, Rajasthan World Renewal Spiritual Trust (WRST), a registered Charitable Trust / solar research centre and a sister organization of the Brahma Kumaris, is setting up a 1.0 Mw el. solar thermal power plant in order to demonstrate and multiply this alternative technology for India. Energy is one of the most important requirements for this world to function properly. Its availability and regular supply are of paramount interest. As we are all aware, energy and fuel prices are rising day by day and the negative effects of global warming are more and more visible. After detailed evaluation of various solar technologies, WRST came to the conclusion to make use of the in-house developed 60m2 Scheffler parabolic dish in order to set up a solar thermal power plant near its Shantivan Campus in Abu Road, Rajasthan. For this project, WRST has teamed up with Fraunhofer Institute (ISE) and enjoys the support of Wolfgang Scheffler. WRST is in close liaison with various solar R&D institutions and manufacturers and has initiated all necessary steps for completion of this project. The WRST solar team has developed and built a 50/60m2 dish and receiver prototype which has undergone already successful extensive field tests. The thermal solar power plant (solar only) will be the first of its kind in the world in dish technology in direct steam generation mode, with full thermal storage for 16 hrs continuous operations for base load. Airborne-Unmanned 06.13.17: ATC Reform, NASA Updates UTM, Drone-Betting?

07:10
Also: Kratos Order, SoftBank Acquires Boston Dynamics, Sherriff UAV Finds Missing Man, Michael Huerta Update An Administration proposal released last week by President Trump as part of an infrastructure initiative seeks to separate the ATC system from the FAA and place it under the control of a private corporation administered by an administrative board that appears to offer significant power to the airlines and unions that make up the rank and file of the ATC personnel system. Much of the airline industry seems to be quite supportive of this effort, while it is largely opposed by much of the non-airline aviation and aerospace community. Based initially on proposals made by Representative Bill Shuster which failed to gain traction in previous years, the plan promises access to all members of the aviation community, including unmanned vehicles, but holds out the potential need for user fees to gain access to the National Airspace System. The FAA estimates that there could be 7 million UAS vehicles flying in U.S. airspace by the year 2020. It’s a staggering number, especially when it comes to safely managing all that air traffic. NASA has been charged by the FAA to develop methods of monitoring and managing UAS traffic. Partnering with public and private entities, NASA’s UAS Traffic Management (UTM) program just completed the second part of a four-stage research project towards this goal. U know you’ve reached a high level of public interest when they start betting on your activities. Flights were delayed on Saturday 15th in the Washington region of the US, due to technical issues at a Federal Aviation Administration centre in Washington, DC. A computer outage was limiting flight arrivals and departures at airports including Washington's Reagan National Airport, Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, and Washington's Dulles International Airport . An FAA spokeswoman said the agency would be issuing a statement soon, but had no immediate comments on the problem. American Airlines said in a tweet that air traffic control issues were impacting all East Coast flights, and urged passengers to plan accordingly. A $15 million development deal closed more than a year ago between Pima County, AZ and World View, which hopes to carry passengers to the fringe of space under a massive balloon, has been struck down by an Arizona judge, leaving the status of the project in limbo. Working under the agreement, World View has already constructed a 700-foot wide launch pad and headquarters facilities, with some offices already occupied by World View employees. The plan called for World View to lease the facility for 10 years, paying between $675,000 to $1.62 million annually in lease fees. Since 2000, Bombardier Global aircraft have achieved more than 2,500 takeoffs and landings at Aspen’s challenging airport. Take our word for it, operations that this high-altitude facility can be... interesting. Delivering a steep approach capability like no other aircraft in their class, Global business jets demonstrate renowned agility and deft landing capabilities at Aspen/Pitkin County Airport, which is nestled among Rocky Mountain peaks at approximately 7,820 feet above sea level. One of the things new drone operators have to learn about very quickly is the concept of a Temporary Flight Restriction, which we have known for years as a TFR. Violating a TFR can carry serious consequences, even if you stray into one unintentionally. For drone operators, the threat to life and limb is maybe not so immediate, but as Jonathan Rupprecht of the Rupprecht Law Firm recently wrote in his blog, there can still be serious consequences.
