Бауыржан Момышұлы | Bauyrzhan Momyshuly, USSR military commander, strategic and tactical.

04:15
Bauyrzhan Momyshuly 24 December [O.S. 11 December] 1910 – 10 June 1982) was a Kazakh-Soviet military officer and author, posthumously awarded with the titles Hero of the Soviet Union and People's Hero of Kazakhstan. Momyshuly was born in Orak Balga, a now abandoned Aul in the modern Zhualy Districtin southern Kazakhstan, to a family of nomadic herders from the Dulat tribe. He lived with his relatives until the age of thirteen, but spent his teenage years in Soviet boarding schools. After completing his secondary education in 1929, he worked as a teacher, a secretary of a district committee and as an assistant-prosecutor. He was later employed as a department chief in the Kazakh ASSR's Central Agency for Economic Planning. In November 1932, Momyshuly was conscripted for a two-year service in the Red Army, and posted as a cadet in the 14th Mountain Infantry Regiment. After his discharge, he studied a course in economics in the Leningrad Institute of Finance and worked in the Kazakh branch of the Commercial-Industrial Soviet State Bank. On 25 March 1936, Momyshuly was again called for military service, becoming a platoon commander in the Central Asian Military District's 315th Regiment. He remained in the military for the next two decades. In March 1937, the regiment was transferred to the Far Eastern Front in Siberia. While not subject to repression during the Great Purge, the remark "unreliable, with extreme nationalist views" was inscribed in his personal dossier in 1937. His biographer, Mekemtas Myrzakhmetov, believed this happened because Momyshuly was known to read the poetry of Magjan Jumabayev and works of other authors associated with the Alash Orda. In 1939, Momyshuly was assigned to command the 105th Infantry Division's artillery. From February 1940, he headed the 202nd Independent Anti-Tank Battalion, based in Zhytomyr. In January the following year, Lieutenant Momyshuly returned to Kazakhstan, serving in Alma-Ata's military commissariat. When Germany invaded the Soviet Union on 22 June, he was appointed a battalion commander – Kombat – in the 1073th Regiment of the newly formed 316th Rifle Division, headed by the military commissar of the Kyrgyz SSR, Major General Ivan Panfilov. In September 1941, the division was sent to the front in Malaya Vishera, at the vicinity of Leningrad. During October, as the Wehrmacht advanced on Moscow, the 316th – now part of General Konstantin Rokossovsky's 16th Army – was transferred to the theater and tasked with defending the highway passing through the city of Volokolamsk and the surrounding area. Momyshuly's battalion was assigned an eight-kilometer-long sector along the Ruza River; Senior Lieutenant Momyshuly took part in 27 engagements during the defense of the Soviet capital. From the 16th to the 18th of November, he and his unit were cut off from the rest of the division in the village of Matryonino, yet managed to hold off the German forces and eventually broke out back to their lines. For its performances, the 316th was awarded the status of a Guards formation on 23 November, and named the Panfilov 8th Guards Rifle Division in honor of its fallen commander, who was killed in action on 18 November. In late November, Momyshuly was promoted to the rank of captain. Momyshuly participated in the Soviet counter-offensive and was severely wounded on 5 December, though he declined to be evacuated to receive treatment. In March 1942, war correspondent Alexander Bek arrived in the 8th Guards Division. During the spring of that year, Bek convinced Momyshuly, who was reluctant at first, to cooperate with him in writing a novel about the fighting in Volokolamsk, which would eventually be published in 1944 under the title Volokolamsk Highway. Momyshuly strongly disapproved of Bek's book, which he claimed to be an unrealistic depiction of events, and criticized the author relentlessly for the remainder of his life. In April 1942, his commanding officer approved his promotion to the rank of major. In August 1942, his superiors had submitted a highly positive report on his conduct, and he was recommended to be awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. The proposal was rejected. The poet Mikhail Isinaliev, a friend of Momyshuly, wrote that a former political officer from the 8th Guards told him that this was due to his Kazakh patriotism, which was regarded as dangerous nationalism by the unit's commissars. Momyshuly joined the Communist Party during the same year. In October, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel. After eight months, he became a colonel. During 1943, due to the effects of his old injury, he was forced to rest in a hospital for a prolonged period. After being released from the hospital in March 1944, he underwent an advanced officers' course in the Voroshilov Academy. On 21 January 1945, Colonel Baurzhan Momyshuly was appointed as the commander of the 9th Guards Rifle Division, a unit of the 2nd Rifle Corp https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wi

HELP BLOCK ASIAN CARP

02:08
URGENT ACTION IS NEEDED TO PROTECT AND PRESERVE OUR PRECIOUS GREAT LAKES… JOIN THE CAUSE! Sign the petition at https://blockasiancarp.org/take-action It’s not too late to block invasive carp from the Great Lakes – but your voice is needed! The Great Lakes Basin Partnership to Block Asian Carp is rallying support for immediate implementation of a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plan to reduce the risk of invasive carp from entering the Great Lakes through the Brandon Road Lock and Dam in Joliet, Illinois. The problem: Silver and bighead carp, two types of invasive Asian carp, are steadily making their way up Illinois waterways toward Lake Michigan. If these dangerous invasive species successfully infiltrate the Great Lakes, they will wreak untold environmental and economic damage. The Solution: The states of Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin, the city of Chicago and the province of Ontario have committed to move forward as soon as possible with the Army Corps of Engineers’ plan, which offers a combination of solutions to block Asian carp migration at the Brandon Road Lock and Dam. We need Illinois’ full support in preventing Asian carp from devastating Great Lakes ecosystems. The project won’t cost Illinois taxpayers anything, Michigan is willing to pay the tab, but the Army Corps can’t move forward without Illinois participation. Add your voice to the growing chorus of Great Lakes states residents urging Illinois leaders to back the Army Corps of Engineers’ plan before it’s too late to protect our waterways. Sign the petition at https://blockasiancarp.org/take-action urging immediate action at Brandon Road Lock and Dam. And don’t forget to ask your friends and families to please join the movement!

Watch This Video of China Military H-20 Nuclear Capable Strategic Stealth Bomber [revealed]

06:04
Watch This Video of China Military H-20 Nuclear Capable Strategic Stealth Bomber [revealed] (Video/Thumbnail Picture just For Ilustration) The state-run Aviation Industry Corporation of China, or AVIC, may have given a first look at the long-rumored H-20 stealth bomber in a promotional video that apes Northrop Grumman’s famous Superbowl ad teasing what is now known as the B-21 Raider. The clip, which highlights the consortium’s various civil and military products, as well as those from its subsidiaries, has a number of other significant nods to the country’s strategic aviation capabilities, past and present. China Defense Online posted a copy of the video, which combines file footage with slick computer-generated graphics, online on May 8, 2018. Though the presentation has AVIC branding only, it is specifically a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Xi'an Aircraft Industrial Corporation, or XAC, which the Chinese government founded in 1958. XAC is reportedly responsible for the development of the H-20 and is also the primary firm behind the Y-20 airlifter, the country’s largest domestically designed aircraft. Now, it's important to note that AVIC is no stranger to putting together lavish video presentations to mark major anniversaries in Chinese military aviation. But hidden at the very end of the just over five-minute long video is the brief view of what appears to be a flying-wing style aircraft under a sheet with the text "The Next..." in English. The clip never specifically mentions the H-20 and doesn’t give any details about the aircraft, but it seems very likely that this was at least meant to represent the ongoing project. This is exactly how Northrop Grumman teased the B-21 on national television in the United States during Superbowl XLIX in2015. To date, there have been no official pictures of the Raider and only very limited concept art of that aircraft. Some have even suggested that the two clips are so close that the Chinese one may, in fact, be a heavily edited rip-off of Northrop Grumman's ad itself and not part of the official AVIC video at all. It is definitely possible that China Defense Online added its own teaser to the end. However, a side-by-side comparison of the two clips shows that they are very distinct in many of the details. The timing is still slightly curious, though. The AVIC video began making the rounds shortly after James Drew, a reporter for Aviation Week, made a cryptic post on Twitter that many thought might lead to the first actual images of the B-21. Strategic Assets for Nuclear War: "Readiness" 1978 US Air Force; Air Force Now Special Report

United States Air Force film AFN-105 Originally a public domain film, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and one-pass brightness-contrast-color correction & mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strategic_Air_Command Wikipedia license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ Strategic Air Command (SAC) was both a Department of Defense Specified Command and a United States Air Force (USAF) Major Command (MAJCOM), responsible for Cold War command and control of two of the three components of the U.S. military's strategic nuclear strike forces, the so-called "nuclear triad," with SAC having control of land-based strategic bomber aircraft and intercontinental ballistic missiles or ICBMs (the third leg of the triad being submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBM) of the U.S. Navy). SAC also operated all strategic reconnaissance aircraft, all strategic airborne command post aircraft, and all USAF aerial refueling aircraft, to include those in the Air Force Reserve (AFRES) and Air National Guard (ANG). However, SAC did not operate the KB-50, WB-50 and WB-47 weather reconnaissance aircraft operated through the mid and late 1960s by the Air Weather Service, nor did SAC operate the HC-130 or MC-130 operations aircraft capable of aerial refueling helicopters that were assigned to Tactical Air Command (TAC), then Military Airlift Command (MAC), and from 1990 onward, those MC-130 aircraft operated by the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), or any AFRES (now Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC)) or ANG tactical aerial refueling aircraft (e.g., HC-130, MC-130) operationally gained by TAC, MAC or AFSOC. SAC primarily consisted of the Second Air Force (2AF), Eighth Air Force (8AF) and the Fifteenth Air Force (15AF), while SAC headquarters (HQ SAC) included Directorates for Operations & Plans, Intelligence, Command & Control, Maintenance, Training, Communications, and Personnel. At a lower echelon, SAC headquarters divisions included Aircraft Engineering, Missile Concept,[1] and Strategic Communications. In 1992, as part of an overall post-Cold War reorganization of the U.S. Air Force, SAC was disestablished as both a Specified Command and as a MAJCOM, and its personnel and equipment redistributed among the Air Combat Command (ACC), Air Mobility Command (AMC), Pacific Air Forces (PACAF), United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE), and Air Education and Training Command (AETC), while SAC's central headquarters complex at Offutt AFB, Nebraska was concurrently transferred to the newly created United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), which was established as a joint Unified Combatant Command to replace SAC's Specified Command role. In 2009, SAC's previous USAF MAJCOM role was reactivated and redesignated as the Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC), with AFGSC eventually acquiring claimancy and control of all USAF bomber aircraft and the USAF strategic ICBM force...

Chinese Military Strategist Liu Kui Says India's Aircraft Carrier Strategy 'A Failure'

05:59
This video shows you that Chinese Military Strategist Liu Kui Says India's Aircraft Carrier Strategy 'A Failure'. A Chinese military strategist at a People's Liberation Army Navy think-tank has dubbed India's aircraft carrier strategy a failure, calling for China to expand its own carrier programme as the PLA Navy readies its aircraft second carrier. Liu Kui, of the Naval Equipment Research Institute of the PLA Navy, said that the recent decommissioning of INS Viraat, which left India with one aircraft carrier, had shown that India's long-time strategy to dominate the Indian Ocean with three aircraft carriers was "falling flat". "The Indian Navy's dream of having three aircraft carriers has fallen flat because it overestimated its R&D capability and the country's overall strength, and undertook an excessively massive strategy that eventually got stranded," said Liu, in an article published on the PLA's official website, in Chinese and in English. "To achieve the goal of three aircraft carriers, India, while extending the INS Viraat's service time, invested a lot of money to modify the INS Vikramaditya and carried on with the INS Vikrant development, but the seemingly efficient 'three-pronged' approach didn't go as successfully as expected," he said. "The INS Vikramaditya has cost so much money that the new INS Vikrant that should have been commissioned in 2014 won't be completed until 2018, and whether India can meet that deadline is still uncertain." Lessons for China :: He said there were "lessons" for China from India's experience, and that it should carry on with its aircraft carrier programme as well as enhance civilian-military integration to boost capabilities. His comments came as Chinese military officials signalled that China's second aircraft carrier - its first home-grown one after the refitted Liaoning - would be ready for sea trials by 2019. At the on-going session of China's National People's Congress or Parliament, which announced a 7 per cent hike in defence spending, several military experts have called for a boost to the Navy's funding and to expand the aircraft carrier programme. PLA Navy Rear Admiral Yin Zhuo, who is also a member of parliament, said China "needs two carrier strike groups in the West Pacific Ocean and two in the Indian Ocean. So, we need at least five to six aircraft carriers." In the article, the PLA Navy expert, Liu Kui, said that Indian navy strategists had envisaged "two aircraft carriers in order to 'dominate' the Indian Ocean and control the Bay of Bengal east of India and the Arabian Sea" and "a third aircraft carrier as a mobile force to provide quick aid or sail to other sea areas critical for its interests." India's ocean strategy "However, in comparison to India's ocean strategy, its aircraft carrier development hasn't been a plain sailing," he said. "First, India isn't capable of independent ship R&D and modification. Second, India's strategic layout isn't consistent with its overall national strength." He also said India had a "carrier complex" and "mistook the deterrence of aircraft carrier for combat capability". "It is imperative to develop aircraft carriers, but it cannot be hurried through. Not all carrier-borne aircraft can be put into combat, but India insisted on increasing the number of aircraft carriers under such circumstances." He concluded there were lessons for China, starting with providing "continuous support to the development of aircraft carriers." air carrier, aircraft carrier, aircraft carrier for sale, american aircraft carriers, biggest aircraft carrier, carrier air force, carrier ship, china carrier, chinese aircraft, chinese aircraft carrier, chinese carrier, india vs china military, indian aircraft carrier, indian carrier, indian navy in, indian navy strength, largest aircraft carrier, navy aircraft, navy aircraft carrier, new aircraft carrier, new carrier, new chinese aircraft carrier, russian aircraft carrier, us aircraft carriers ====================================================================================================== DISCLAIMER: The facts in the video are totally based on the facts reported in various news agency hence Global Conflict is not responsible to any side-effect of the video. The word "Seabee" comes from initials "CB". The Seabees have a history of building bases, bulldozing and paving thousands of miles of roadway and airstrips, and accomplishing a myriad of other construction projects in a wide variety of military theaters dating back to World War II... History World War II In December 1941, with U.S. involvement in war soon expected on both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, Rear Admiral Ben Moreell, Chief of the Navy's Bureau of Yards and Docks, recommended establishing Naval Construction Battalions at a newly constructed base at Davisville, Rhode Island (part of North Kingstown). With the attack on Pearl Harbor and the United States' entry into the war, he was given the go-ahead. The Davisville Advanced Base Depot became operational in June 1942. Camp Thomas, a personnel-receiving station on the base, was established in October of that year. It eventually contained 500 Quonset huts for personnel. On August 11, 1942, the Naval Construction Training Center, known as Camp Endicott, was commissioned at Davisville. The Camp trained over 100,000 Seabees during the Second World War. In California in May 1942, a base for supporting the Naval Construction Force was established at Port Hueneme in Ventura County. This base became responsible for shipping massive amounts of equipment and material to the efforts in the Pacific. The earliest Seabees were recruited from the civilian construction trades and were placed under the leadership of the Navy's Civil Engineer Corps. Because of the emphasis on experience and skill rather than physical standards, the average age of Seabees during WWII was 37. More than 325,000 men served with the Seabees in World War II, fighting and building on six continents and more than 300 islands. In the Pacific, where most of the construction work was needed, the Seabees landed soon after the Marines and built major airstrips, bridges, roads, gasoline storage tanks, and Quonset huts for warehouses, hospitals, and housing. They often operated under fire and frequently were forced to take part in the fighting to defend themselves and their construction projects. In the Pacific Theater they built 111 major airstrips and 441 piers, tanks for the storage of 100 m gallons of fuel, housing for 1.5 million men and hospitals for 70,000 patients. The Seabees were officially organized in the Naval Reserve on December 31, 1947. With the general demobilization following the war, the Naval Construction Battalions (NCBs) were reduced to 3,300 men on active duty by 1950. Between 1949 and 1953, Naval Construction Battalions were organized into two types of units: Amphibious Construction Battalions (ACBs) and Mobile Construction Battalions (MCBs), which were later designated Naval Mobile Construction Battalions (NMCBs) in the early- to mid-1960s to eliminate confusion with Marine Corps Base (MCB) in Vietnam...

The History Of Sony And Samsung

This video is sponsored by Skillshare Patron: https://www.patreon.com/neoscribe Awesome T-shirts and Mugs: https://sfsf.shop/support-neoscribe/ Growing up in the 1980s and 90s, Sony was the Flagship Brand for almost all things electronics and Samsung were perceived as a low-end brand. Fast Forward to 2003 I bought a Samsung Yepp MP3 Player and I was blown away by it, and it changed the way I thought about Samsung products. Then it seemed like all of a sudden, for me at least, by 2010 Sony was not the flagship company they used to be and Samsung was the Flagship company for almost all things electronics. This is the story about the how Samsung replaced Sony as the King of the electronics industry. It’s a story about leadership and it begins with Sony’s founders Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita. Ibuka and Morita were engineers who met as researchers for Japan’s Navy Wartime Research Committee during WWII. After the war, Morita saw an article about Ibuka’s plans for a business venture and he reached out to Ibuka to join the business. In 1946, Morita and Ibuka founded the Tokyo Telecommunication Engineering Corporation on a rented floor of a department store. The company’s technology was limited in the beginning but Morita and Ibuka had a wonderous vision for the company, which was to contribute to society by providing new products to consumers that were based on liberal, open corporate culture. To compliment this vision, Morita and Ibuka centered the company around brilliant founding principles of Freedom and Open-mindedness that in time was in-grained in the corporation’s culture leading them to produce so many ground-breaking products for the next 50 years. Samsung was founded before Sony in 1938 by Lee Byung-Chul as a small export business selling fruits, vegetables, and dried fish. Eventually, Samsung branched out into a variety of industries, such as insurance, securities, and retail. Samsung Electronics was established in 1969 and humbly started producing home appliance parts for Sanyo Electric Company. Then, without the technology to produce colored TVs, they started producing black and white TVs in 1970 which were outdated by then. Samsung eventually produced colored TVs by 1976 and also began to produce a diverse array of products, such as microwaves, washing machines, and refrigerators. On top of that, they established vertical integration by manufacturing components in-house. In 1980, Samsung acquired the government-owned telecom equipment maker Korea Telecommunications Corporation and started developing switchboards, telephone, and fax manufacturing systems. For a long time, Samsung products lacked the technology to produce expensive and more profitable products and the Samsung brand was perceived as cheap and low-quality. Three factors led to why Sony declined so quickly in the digital age. First, when Idei became President, Sony had a lot of debt and was in poor financial shape due to major acquisitions in music and movies along with expansion overseas and Idei had that looming over him and he made decisions shift to focus on short-term profit. Second, Ohga put off identifying his successor until he was close to his mandatory age, and by the time he selected Idei, he did not have time to mentor him. Under the leadership of Lee, Samsung’s strategy to dominate the electronics industry came from two tactics, Aggressive Investment and Speed. This strategy originated from the company’s approach to their DRAM business. When Samsung entered the DRAM market in the 1980’s they were 5 years behind their competitors in technology. In efforts to close the gap, Samsung completed its first production facility is just 6 months, a project that usually took two to three years. Samsung managers and engineers simultaneously managed the design, plans, and construction of the facility, sleeping at an on-site barracks, only going home once a week to change clothes. Today, Sony is led by its new President Kenichiro Yoshida and under his direction, the company is doubling down on content as they recently made a $2 Billion acquisition of EMI Music Publishing. Sony is now the largest music publishing company in the world with an insane library of 4.3 million songs and growing.

April 19th, 2011: Pakistan on Tuesday successfully conducted the 1st flight test of the newly developed Short Range Surface to Surface Multi Tube Ballistic Missile Hatf IX (NASR). The missile has been developed to add deterrence value to Pakistan's Strategic Weapons Development programme at shorter ranges. NASR, with a range of 60 km, carries nuclear warheads of appropriate yield with high accuracy, shoot and scoot attributes. This quick response system addresses the need to deter evolving threats. The test was witnessed by Director General Strategic Plans Division, Lieutenant General (Retired) Khalid Ahmed Kidwai, Chairman NESCOM Mr Irfan Burney, senior officers from the strategic forces, scientists and engineers of strategic organizations. On this occasion, the Director General Strategic Plans Division, Lieutenant General (Retired) Khalid Ahmed Kidwai said that the test was a very important milestone in consolidating Pakistan's strategic deterrence capability at all levels of the threat spectrum. He said in that hierarchy of military operations, the NASR Weapon System now provides Pakistan with short range missile capability in addition to the already available medium and long range ballistic missiles and cruise missiles in its inventory. The successful test has also been warmly appreciated by the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan, who have congratulated the scientists and engineers on their outstanding success.

The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Frantic Wikipedia license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ Operation Frantic was a series of seven shuttle bombing operations during World War II conducted by American aircraft based in Great Britain and Southern Italy which then landed at three Soviet airfields in Ukraine. The operation began in June, 1944 and ended in September... Overview American plans to use air bases in the USSR began as United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) staff studies soon after the German invasion on 22 June 1941. After the Japanese attack on the United States on 7 December, the concept was expanded to hit the Japanese Home Islands from Siberia. However, Soviet air cooperation was negligible through 1942, and it was not until the Foreign Ministers' conference (Moscow Conference) in Moscow in October 1943 that the American delegation raised the issue formally with Foreign Commissar Vyacheslav Molotov. At the Tehran Conference in late November 1943, President Franklin D. Roosevelt personally proposed the use of Soviet bases by American aircraft to Marshal Joseph Stalin... Operation Frantic, originally known as Operation Baseball, was intended to permanently establish three heavy bomber groups in Soviet territory, but only a small contingent, about 1,300 men, was eventually detached to the American bases in the USSR. During the four months of major operations, 24 targets in German-held territory, some never before within effective range of the American strategic bomber forces, were attacked... The operations were reduced and finally discontinued due to 1) a catastrophic German air attack on the bases in June, 2) Soviet hostility and non-cooperation that began in August, and 3) the inability of the Americans to receive permission to use the bases for support of the Warsaw Uprising, which soured relations between the two countries. The main operational difficulty encountered by the US forces was inadequate force protection by the Soviets. The Soviets refused US requests to introduce adequate radar-guided artillery and night fighter support, and US aircraft were frequently fired upon by Soviet forces... Operation Frantic has greater historical importance for the development of Soviet-American relations than for its effect on Germany's war effort. Starting out with high hopes, it eventually set a discordant note that foreshadowed the Cold War...

Glen Hiemstra, Futurist, was telling audiences about global warming and climate change...in 1987. He was writing about the age wave and the end of classic retirement...in 1995. Glen was previewing nanotechnology...in 1989. He was describing genomic science and biotechnology even earlier. Glen was studying how the Internet would change human and organizational communication in 1981, before the Internet was even a public network. In the mid-1980`s he was telling people about the coming economic growth of the Pacific Rim countries. By 2001 Glen was describing peak oil and the coming energy transformation as the greatest economic opportunity of the next half-century. As early as 2006 Glen was telling people why the debt bubble would burst, as it did more than a year later. To deal with breakthrough trends like these Glen was helping large and small companies, educational institutions, government agencies and communities re-think their future vision. Oh yes, and Glen Hiemstra was the one professional futurist with the foresight to register Futurist.com and become Founder and CEO of the website visited by people from 120 nations each month. Stalingrad 06 - Strategic Offensive

03:39
On the Road - The Red Army Choir Stalingrad 06 - Stalingrad Strategic Offensive Operation 19 November 1942 - 2 February 1943 Recognizing that German troops were ill prepared for offensive operations during the winter, the Stavka decided to conduct a number of offensive operations of its own to exploit this weakness, with the recognition that most of the German troops were redeployed elsewhere on the southern sector of the Eastern Front. Seen in post-war history as a pivotal strategic period of war that began the Second Period of the Great Patriotic War (19 November 1942 - 31 December 1943), these operations would open the Winter Campaign of 1942-1943 (19 November 1942 - 3 March 1943) taking on the strategic and operational planning structure below, employing several Fronts, and some 15 Armies. Soviet Order of Battle Southwestern, Don, Stalingrad Fronts Operation Uranus 19 November 1942 - 30 November 1942 Southwestern Front 1st Guards, 21st, 5th Tank, 17th Air Armies, and the 25th Tank Corps Don Front 24th, 65th, 66th, 16th Air Armies Stalingrad Front 28th, 51st, 57th, 62nd, 64th, 8th Air Armies Kotelnikovo Offensive Operation 12 December 1942 - 31 December 1942 Stalingrad Front 2nd Guards, 5th Shock, 51st, 8th Air Armies Middle Don Offensive Operation (Operation Little Saturn) 16 December 1942 - 30 December 1942 Southwestern Front Don Front Operation Koltso (English: Operation Ring) 10 January 1943 - 2 February 1943 Don Front 21st, 24th, 57th, 62nd, 64th, 65th, 66th, 16th Air Armies The Soviet counter-offensive planning used deceptive measures that eventually trapped and destroyed the 6th Army and other Axis forces around the city, becoming the second large scale defeat of the German Army during the Second World War. During the siege, the German, Italian, Hungarian, and Romanian armies protecting Army Group B's flanks had pressed their headquarters for support. The Hungarian Second Army, consisting of mainly ill-equipped and ill-trained units, was given the task of defending a 200 km section of the front north of Stalingrad between the Italian Army and Voronezh. This resulted in a very thin line, with some sectors where 1--2 km stretches were being defended by a single platoon. Soviet forces held several bridgeheads on the western bank of the river and presented a potentially serious threat to Army Group B. Similarly, on the southern flank of the Stalingrad sector the front south-west of Kotelnikovo was held only by the Romanian VII Corps, and beyond it a single German 16th Motorized Infantry Division. S. Korea's defense ministry unveils comprehensive military reform plan "Defense Reform 2.0"

03:07
국방부, 국방개혁 2.0 세부내용 발표 A long awaited plan to make necessary changes and upgrades to the nation's military is finally unveiled. It centers around using technology to build a more versatile, efficient and effective fighting force. Park Ji-won introduces to us "Defense Reform 2-point-0" The Moon administration's "Defense Reform 2.0", a long-planned comprehensive scheme, aims to modernize the nation's defense structure to better counter the ever evolving transnational and nonmilitary threats and challenges. "We will pursue the Defense Reform 2.0 in order to establish new forces that go in line with the changing times. Our ultimate goal is to make a developed and democratic armed forces. The two pillars that will sustain this goal is the confirmation of civilian control over the forces and a balanced development of the three branches of the military." The reform will touch on four main subjects,... namely military structure, military management, organizational culture, and military acquisition sector. In regards to the reforms on military structure,... South Korea will continue to pursue its three-axis defense system-- the Kill Chain pre-emptive strike system, the Korean Air and Missile Defense or KAMD strategy,... and the Korea Massive Punishment and Retaliation system. Based on the staunch three-axis system,... the South Korean military is aiming to fully prepare for the transfer of wartime operational control,... from the U.S. in the near future. By 2022, the number of troops will be reduced from the current 620-thousand active men and women... to half a million. Secondly,... regarding military management,... the ministry will shorten the duration of the nation's mandatory military service by two or three months. Enlistment in the army, including the marines corps, will be shortened to 18 months from the current 21 months. Service in the navy and air force,... will be reduced to 20 and 22 months, respectively. The reform plan will also increase the number of women in the ranks... and reduce the number of generals, from the current 436 to 360 by 2022. As for the military's organizational culture, the defense ministry will introduce a series of measures to enhance the welfare of soldiers,... such as increasing the troops' salaries,.. and allowing the use of cell phones at military units. Lastly, the ministry says it will eradicate corruption in matters related to defense acquisition,... and increase global competitiveness of the military business sector. The reform is expected to cost around 240 billion U.S. dollars over the next five years. Meanwhile,.. Defense Minister Song Young-moo also vowed to strongly pursue reforms at the embattled Defense Security Command,... saying it is his responsibility to successfully carry out the military intel unit's reform. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strategic_Air_Command Strategic Air Command (SAC) was both a Department of Defense Specified Command and a United States Air Force (USAF) Major Command (MAJCOM) responsible for Cold War command and control of two of the three components of the U.S. military's strategic nuclear strike forces, the so-called "Nuclear Triad," land-based strategic bombers and intercontinental ballistic missiles. SAC also operated all USAF jet aerial refueling, strategic reconnaissance, and airborne command post aircraft. SAC primarily consisted of the Second Air Force (2AF), Eighth Air Force (8AF) and the Fifteenth Air Force (15AF), while SAC headquarters included Directorates for Operations & Plans, Command & Control, Maintenance, Training, Communications, and Personnel. At a lower echelon, headquarters divisions included Aircraft Engineering, Missile Concept, and Strategic Communications. In 1992, as part of an overall post-Cold War reorganization of the U.S. Air Force, SAC was disestablished as both a Specified Command and as a MAJCOM, and its personnel and equipment transferred to Air Combat Command, Air Mobility Command, Pacific Air Forces and United States Air Forces in Europe, while SAC's headquarters complex at Offutt AFB, Nebraska was concurrently transferred to the United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) which was established as a Unified Combatant Command... Strategic Air Command was originally established in the U.S. Army Air Forces on March 21, 1946, acquiring part of the personnel and facilities of the World War II command for CONUS air defense, Continental Air Forces (CAF)... SAC transferred to the United States Air Force on 26 September 1947, concurrent with the latter's establishment as a separate military service... It was described as the "Western Pentagon," a "...four-story, reinforced concrete and masonry office building..." above ground and a "...segregated, adjacent three-story below ground command post." This was the description of what would become Building 500 at Offutt AFB and the new headquarters complex built expressly for SAC, with construction commencing in 1955. SAC headquarters moved from the A Building at Offutt to Building 500 in 1957. The underground nuclear bunker "...had 24-inch thick walls and base floor,…10-inch thick intermediate floors, and 24-to-42-inch thick roof"—containing a war room with "six 16-foot data display screens" and "the capacity to sustain up to 800 people underground for two weeks."... After SAC's 1st Missile Division was activated on 18 March 1957, SAC HQ established the Office of Assistant CINCSAC (SAC MIKE) at the Air Force Ballistic Missile Division in California on 1 January 1958. SAC MIKE was responsible for missile development liaison, theintermediate range Jupiter and Thor missiles having been transferred to SAC for alert in 1958. Beginning on 1 February 1958, a SAC Liaison Team was also located at the NORAD Command Post at Ent AFB, Colorado... The 31 May 1992 USAF reorganization moved SAC bomber, reconnaissance and aerial command post aircraft, along with all Tactical Air Command units and aircraft, to the newly established Air Combat Command (ACC). Air Mobility Command (AMC) inherited most of SAC's KC-135 Stratotanker and KC-10 Extender aerial refueling tanker force...

#48 | Panzer Corps | Afrika Korps - Arabia (1/3)

52:01
12 October 1943 Intelligence informs us that the English managed to build up a considerable force in their East African dominions and intend to retake the Suez Canal. Their plan, we believe, is to split their force, with one prong of the pincer enveloping the Canal from the Arabia peninsula while the other approaches from the south. My orders are to penetrate Arabia and defeat the English before their plans can develop further. My only objective is the complete destruction of the enemy's forces but success here will of course have the added advantage of bringing the Arabian Peninsula and its vast oil reserves under our complete military domination. ------------------------- Difficulty is set to Rommel and we are trying to do a (almost) blind run here. I will explain some advanced tactics and my thougths about different strategic approaches. For explanations on basics and game mechanic I recommend watching my playthrough of the Wehrmacht campaign. Downfall - Hitler's Outrage (Original Subtitles, Extended Length)

05:54
EXPAND THIS DESCRIPTION FOR DETAILS AND INSIGHT Here's the scene that has become so virally popular on YouTube, in all its original glory. This entire movie is amazing, the acting superb, the history accurate. I consider it one of the best WWII movies ever made. Army Detachment Steiner (Armeeabteilung Steiner), was a temporary military unit, something more than a corps but less than an army, created on paper by German dictator Adolf Hitler on 21 April 1945 during the Battle of Berlin, and placed under the command of SS Obergruppenführer Felix Steiner. Hitler hoped that the units assigned to Steiner would be able to stage an effective counter attack against the northern pincer of the Soviet assault on Berlin. In the event, Steiner realised that the forces under his command were inadequate, and refused to attack. Read more about Steiner's failure to attack: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_Detachment_Steiner The two ladies in the beginning are Hitler's secretaries Traudl Junge and Gerda Christian. Read more about Traudl Junge: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traudl_Junge Read more about Gerda Christian: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerda_Christian The man that tells these two ladies that Hitler has nothing to lose in the beginning of the scene is Hermann Fegelein, whose name Hitler is screaming in another scene from this movie that has also gone viral. Read more about Hermann Fegelein: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermann_Fegelein The woman Hitler kisses at the end is obviously Eva Braun, his long-time girlfriend who married and committed suicide with Hitler. Read more about Eva Braun: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eva_Braun Read more about Hitler's very last days: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Adolf_Hitler Read more about the Battle of Berlin (the battle occurring in the background): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Berlin The actor who totally nails Hitler's mannerisms and speaking style is Bruno Ganz. Read more about Bruno Ganz: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruno_Ganz The following is an excerpt from an interview with Bruno Ganz appearing in The Guardian, regarding his role in the film and how he prepared himself for it: "I had some doubts when I was first offered the part of Hitler in Downfall. I asked myself whether I really wanted to get involved in this ugly, terrible stuff. But it was also a temptation - the subject has a fascinating side - so I agreed. I did four months of research. The producers sent me a tape, secretly recorded in Finland in 1942, with Hitler's natural voice - not the screaming orator we are used to, but a soft, attractive voice, a calm baritone. I tried to capture that. I became convinced Hitler had Parkinson's disease: there is newsreel of him presenting medals to the Hitler Youth a few days before his death, and you can see his hand shaking, so I visited a hospital and observed Parkinson's sufferers. There was no strategy in the film to say: "Let's show a new Hitler." I just wanted to show him as the evidence and the testimony of witnesses suggests. Witnesses say he was kind to dogs, charming to women, nice to children, but then he could just say: "Let's kill 5,000 people." In the film, when he and his generals are discussing military problems, one says to him: "What about the 100,000 young German officers on the eastern front? They are going to die." He says: "But they are born to die." He was completely pitiless. What fascinated me was that he was not just supported by the German people; he was loved. The relationship between him and them was almost religious. There was also that Wagnerian undercurrent - the hero dressed in white, standing against a corrupt world. Look at the bunker - the way Goebbels's wife is willing to kill her children because she can't imagine life after national socialism. It is like a cult. So it helped me that I am Swiss, not German. I'm not saying that I couldn't have played the part if I had been German, but it was useful to be able to put my Swiss passport between my heart and Mr Hitler, so that he couldn't touch me. Having played him, I cannot claim to understand Hitler. Even the witnesses who had been in the bunker with him were not really able to describe the essence of the man. He had no pity, no compassion, no understanding of what the victims of war suffered. Ultimately, I could not get to the heart of Hitler because there was none."
