The logistics function of the Army Ordnance Corps involves the mechanics of provisioning and procuring of all stores required to raise and maintain an efficient and effective fighting Army. The aim is to make available all kinds of stores to all units of the Army at the right time, in right quantity, at the right place and right cost. The Inventory range covers every conceivable requirement of the soldier from clothing to weapons, from a needle to a tank and also all munitions except fuel, fodder and medicines. The Inventory Management functions involve Provisioning, Procurement, Receipt, Accounting, Storage, Issue, Transportation and Disposal of all Clothing/Equipment /Weapons/Vehicles and Ammunition. Ordnance is also responsible for Ammunition Management for the complete range of Munitions from a pistol bullet to a Bofors Shell and all Missiles. Army Ordnance Corps procures a wide range of stores mainly from Ordnance factories and Public Sector Undertakings. However it taps civil industry and market for a large range of low tech general stores, clothing and automobile spare parts. The corporate world can be a strong partner of Defence Services in material support. For supply of stores to the Army, the registration with Director General of Supplies and Disposal / Director General of Quality Assurance / Ordnance Depots is the first step. Restoring the Everglades: Why and How
http://www.evergladesplan.org/pm/projects/landing_projects.aspx U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Jacksonville District http://www.youtube.com/user/JaxStrong http://www.saj.usace.army.mil/ This clip is from: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1HZJYbQeTQ Florida Everglades Cleanup: A River of Morass http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=La0xEsbxgl8 --- History In the late 1930s, the U.S. Department of Agriculture began studies of the muck thicknesses and other characteristics of the Everglades. Starting in the early 1940s, the U.S. Geological Survey began its studies in the Everglades under the leadership of Gerald G. Parker, Sr., as his first assignment with the agency and it was his first job out of college, so to speak. See: http://sofia.usgs.gov/memorials/parker/ By 1947, when Everglades National Park was established and River of Grass by Marjorie Stoneman Douglas, there had been a lot of science done in the Everglades. Also, starting in the early 1920s, aerial photography was flown of the entire Everglades, Lake Okeechobee and the coastal areas of Florida by the U.S. Navy -- all of that imagery lost in time. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers had been studying southern Florida since the Seminole Wars (3 of them) that were began by Andrew Jackson murderous campaign against Indians, In the 1880s, the Corps began measuring water flows and depths in the Caloosahatchee up through Lake Okeechobee into the Kissimmee. In the 1923, the Corps began controlling the water levels of Lake Okeechobee, after which hundreds (September 1926) then thousands (September 1928) were killed by the lake waters. The Corps doesn't acknowledge having involvement in south Florida -- even though its records show it -- until after 1928 when it began rediking Lake Okeechobee. --- This was the real kickoff for Everglades restoration: South Florida could well become "the only desert in the world that gets 70 inches of rain a year," Governor Reuben Askew said during the muck fires of the 1970s. In 1970 and 1971, Florida experienced a terrible drought. Muck fires burned through the everglades, and salt water intrusion threatened the Biscayne Bay Aquifer.173 Prompted by this crisis, and in response to the historical and widespread abuse174 of the state's land and water resources, Governor Rubin Askew called a statewide conference in August 1971.175 The conference, which was called to discuss potential approaches to solving the environmental problems Florida faced, "was attended by over 150 participants, including developers, state and local government officials, federal agency representatives, and environmentalists."176 [ WATER MANAGEMENT BULLETIN, Volume 5, Number 3, December-January 1971/72 http://everglades.fiu.edu/marshall/marsh012/marsh012.html ] In addressing those who offered only a cautious approach, one that would not negatively affect the agendas of developers and agribusiness interests, Askew replied, 'It is time we stopped viewing our environment through prisms of profit, politics, geography, or local and personal pride.' He warned that 'a failure to find appropriate solutions . . . would be disastrous to our economy as well as to our environment. The conference responded to Governor Askew's theme by drafting a strongly worded set of findings and policy recommendations. The report stated that 'an enforceable comprehensive land and water use plan ... must be designed to limit increases in population . . . to a level that will ensure a quality environment.'177 Florida enacted four laws in 1972 in response to this new focus on growth and the environment.178 Florida's approach differed from the other states discussed above in that it involved extensive state and regional involvement in narrowly selected areas, previously solely in the domain of local government.179 The four laws were a) The Environmental Land and Water Management Act, b) The Water Resources Act, c) The Comprehensive Planning Act, and d) The Land Conservation Act.180 Each piece of legislation was politically volatile, and involved many compromises.181 Source: THE CHANGING ROLE IN REGIONALISM (42 pages) http://www.law.fsu.edu/journals/landuse/vol19_2/vanrooy.pdf === Also see: http://planetgreen.discovery.com/videos/focus-earth-2-everglades-species-fading-away.html http://planetgreen.discovery.com/videos/focus-earth-2-restoring-the-everglades.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHuBjmkwq24 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPked5Zxt98 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_v_P8CAD3fc

The Maturity of The INDIGENOUS Airborne Warning & Control System
The system enables the armed forces to communicate with fighter jets and other AEW&C assets, while it also allows for Search and Rescue (SAR) operations, mission planning as well as record and replay for post mission analysis. The AEW&C system uses C band data link, Ku band SATCOM and a set of five V/UHF frequencies. The C band and Ku band links form redundant links for air to ground communications. The Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is developing three such systems at a cost of Rs 2,425 crore. Augmentation of airborne surveillance capabilities of IAF by way of procurement and indigenous production depends upon national security, strategic objectives and operational requirements of the defense forces and is reviewed by the Government from time to time. This is dynamic and continuous process. The Airborne Surveillance System is a game changer in air warfare. The AEW&C System is a system of systems populated with state-of-the art Active Electronically Scanned Radar, Secondary Surveillance Radar, Electronic and Communication Counter Measures, LOS (Line of Sight) and beyond LOS data link, voice communication system and self protection suite, built on an Emb-145 platform, having an air to air refueling capability to enhance surveillance time. A complex tactical software has been developed for fusion of information from the sensors, to provide the air situation picture along with intelligence to handle identification/classification threat assessment. Battle management functions are built in house to work as a network centric system of Integrated Air Command & Control System (IACCS) node. This system has been developed and evaluated through collaborative efforts between DRDO and the IAF, with coordination for certification clearance and quality assurance by CEMILAC and DGAQA. The AEW&C system has undergone all weather and environmental trials and has been accepted by the IAF for induction. =================================================== DISCLAIMER: Information, Facts or Opinion expressed in this Video are Presented as Sources and do not reflects views of INDIA TUBE and hence INDIA TUBE is not liable or responsible for the same. Public domain film from the US National Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and one-pass brightness-contrast-color correction & mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITT_465L_Strategic_Air_Command_Control_System The ITT 465L Strategic Air Command Control System (SACCS, SAC Control System, 465L Project, 465L Program) was a Cold War "Big L" network of computer and communication systems for command and control of Strategic Air Command "combat aircraft, refueling tankers, [and] ballistic missiles". International Telephone and Telegraph was the prime contractor for Project 465, and SACCS had "Cross Tell Links" between command posts at Offutt AFB, March AFB, & Barksdale AFB (SACCS also communicated with the Cheyenne Mountain Complex and Air Force command posts. The 465L System included IBM AN/FSQ-31 SAC Data Processing Systems, Remote (RCC) and Simplex Remote Communication Systems (SRCC), SAC Network Control Office, "4-wire, Schedule 4, Type 4B alternate voice-data operation", and one-way communication with "ICBM launch control centers" (the SAC Digital Network upgraded to two-way communications.) In addition to IBM for the "Super SAGE type computers", another of the 6 direct subcontractors was AT&T ("end-to-end control" of the communications circuits)... Development On February 11, 1958, Headquarters USAF published GOR 168 for SACCS (the Westover AFB command post was to get a computer system) and on April 1, HQ USAF changed the SACCS designator from Program 133L to 465L. SAC's QOR for the NSCS was issued September 13, 1958, and in October 1959 the systems cost had increased from $139.7 million to 339.8 million in 12 months: the Office of the Secretary of Defense—with "doubts regarding the validity of the entire 465L concept"—cut the program by December 1. In September 1960 the "installation of a SAC display warning system" included 3 consoles (e.g., BMEWS DIP in the Offutt bunker and on 7 December I960, the 465L Program was cut to ""a most austere approach" (an austere air defense sector was also established for NORAD, which soon planned a smaller BUIC control system.)" In July 1961, the Department of Defense redirected SACCS 465L to a pre-strike system and established a separate [airborne] post-attack command control system with air and ground elements. by 1962, "SAC installations, inclusive of those overseas and of tenant bases, peaked at 85." "Project 465L, the SAC Control System (SACCS) [with] over a million lines, reached four times the size of the SAGE code and consumed 1,400 man-years of programming; SDC invented a major computer language, JOVIAL, specifically for this project." SACCS "was delivered to Strategic Air Command by the contractor in March 1965" and was designed to survive nuclear attack and to provide rapid transmission, processing, and display of information to support command and control of SAC's geographically separated forces. On January 1, 1968, the SACCS attained operational capability (maintenance at Offutt and March were by the respective 55th Strategic and 33rd Communications Squadrons.) During construction of NORAD's nuclear bunker, SAC's 1963 plan for construction of a Deep Underground Command Center in Colorado beginning in 1965 was cancelled. In 1968, "after SAC completed its tests during March, AFSC arranged for modification of the SAC terminals for use with LES-6" for satellite communications. A SACCS remote communications van[specify] completed on 12 July 1968 was shipped to Andersen AFB, Guam, e.g., for supporting the SACADVON (30 SAC B-52s had deployed on 17 February 1965 to Guam for the Vietnam War.) Gradual replacement On October 6, 1975, SACCS officially integrated with the Worldwide Military Command and Control System when the original IBM 4020 Military Computers were replaced by Honeywell 6080 computers...

Special Team For Rafale Readies Ground Work, To Visit France
This video shows you that Special Team For Rafale Readies Ground Work, To Visit France. Indian Air Force's (IAF) elite test pilots are preparing the groundwork for constituting a project management team that will soon travel to France and work with Dassault in customising the aircraft for India's operational needs. India signed a Rs 60,000 crore deal with Dassault to procure 36 fighters under the medium multi-role combat aircraft (MMRCA) programme recently. The team will be constituted at the Aircraft & Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE) headquartered in Bengaluru, its commandant Air Vice Marshal Sandeep Singh confirmed to TOI. It was ASTE which did the field trials for all six contenders—Lockheed Martin's F-16; Boeing's F/A-18 E/F; European Eurofighter Typhoon; the Swedish Gripen; the French Dassault's Rafale and the Russian Mig-35. Out of the six contenders only the Eurofighter Typhoon and Rafale met all the 750 quality requirements, including weapon systems. ASTE clarified that they do not compare aircraft and that only clear them based on requirement and that the decision of picking one is made at a higher level. Singh, explained that the team, once constituted will have pilots, engineers and air crew. "The size of the team will vary. For the Su-30MKI for example, we had a 10 member team," he said. Given that the ASTE has already flown Rafale, a smaller team will be going to France. The advantage that this will give the IAF is that it will bring back a known platform, which its pilots understand. SU30-Brahmos integration soon :: Further, Singh said that the Su30-MKI and air-launched cruise system Brahmos will happen soon with the firing of the actual mi$$ile. "Advanced trials are ongoing as we speak. We've already completed a dummy drop and the next drop will be the actual mi$$ile," he said. The integration will enable IAF to strike targets 300km away and the aircraft had to be modified to accommodate this system. The IAF's initial requirement is for two Su-30 MKIs with BrahMos but it eventually wishes to integrate 216 mi$$iles on 42 Sukhois. The project was conceived in July-August 2012 and as TOI had reported late in 2015, some quality certification issues has delayed the integration, which was to be complete by the end of 2015. rafael, rafale, rafale deal, mmrca, india rafale, rafale aircraft, rafale m, iaf rafale, mmrca latest news, indian air force, rafale rc jet, rafale deal latest news, aim 120d, meteor, amraam, aim 120c, india rafale deal, india rafale deal latest news, rafale fighter plane, indian air force fighter planes Channel Link: https://www.youtube.com/c/GlobalConflict7 Bicycle - Reunited by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100870 Artist: http://incompetech.com/

Simon Sinek: Why Leaders Eat Last
About this presentation In this in-depth talk, ethnographer and leadership expert Simon Sinek reveals the hidden dynamics that inspire leadership and trust. In biological terms, leaders get the first pick of food and other spoils, but at a cost. When danger is present, the group expects the leader to mitigate all threats even at the expense of their personal well-being. Understanding this deep-seated expectation is the key difference between someone who is just an "authority" versus a true "leader." For more on this topic, check out Sinek's latest book Leaders Eat Last: Why Some Teams Pull Together and Others Don't now available for pre-order. About Simon Sinek A trained ethnographer and the author of Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action, Simon Sinek has held a life-long curiosity for why people and organizations do the things they do. Studying the leaders and companies that make the greatest impact in the world and achieve a more lasting success than others, he discovered the formula that explains how they do it. Sinek's amazingly simple idea, The Golden Circle, is grounded in the biology of human decision-making and is changing how leaders and companies think and act. His innovative views on business and leadership have earned him invitations to meet with an array of leaders and organizations, including Microsoft, Dell, SAP, Intel, Chanel, Members of the United States Congress, and the Ambassadors of Bahrain and Iraq. Sinek recently became an adjunct staff member of the RAND Corporation, one of the most highly regarded think tanks in the world. He also works with the non-profit Education for Employment Foundation to help create opportunities for young men and women in the Middle East region. He lives in New York, where he teaches graduate level strategic communications at Columbia University. Pentagon Sees F-35 Delivery Rate As Improving, But Still Falling Behind Schedule Again This year
This video shows you that Pentagon Sees F-35 Delivery Rate As Improving, But Still Falling Behind Schedule Again This year. The Pentagon’s contract management agency forecasts Lockheed Martin Corp. will deliver 57 of its F-35 jets this year, nine fewer than the company plans. The No. 1 defense contractor “did not meet contract requirements in 2014, 2015 or 2016,” and the Defense Contract Management Agency “forecasts that Lockheed Martin will not meet contract requirements again in 2017,” agency spokesman Mark Woodbury said in a statement. Company performance “has, however, improved from the 2014-2016 timeframe.” Meeting planned deliveries would be a confidence-building measure for investors and analysts who follow Lockheed, which reports its quarterly earnings on Tuesday, and for Pentagon officials who want to accelerate the pace of production starting in fiscal 2018. It also would help bolster the argument that the F-35 has moved past its worst days of delays and cost overruns. The delays aren’t a major revenue issue for the contractor. The accounting method used by Lockheed lets it book revenue on the F-35 program closer to when costs are incurred rather than upon delivery. “Am I going to guarantee we can do 66 this year?” Jeff Babione, the company’s F-35 program manager, said in an interview last month. “No, but I think everything I see is the factory’s running” and Lockheed will hit the goal, unless “we have some big problem.” The Government Accountability Office said in its annual F-35 report Monday that Lockheed “is improving aircraft efficiency and product quality” as production is scheduled to more than double over the next five years. Still, the congressional watchdog agency said that flight testing of the F-35 will take about a year to complete and require at least $1 billion more than planned. The Defense Contract Management Agency said it based its prediction that Lockheed will fall behind this year on “historical performance” and predicted the company will continue to deliver aircraft “an average one to two months later than contractually required.” But it also acknowledged that the Bethesda, Maryland-based company “continues to identify issues driving late aircraft deliveries.” Woodbury wouldn’t elaborate on the past manufacturing and parts flaws that resulted in delays except to note defective coolant-line tubing produced by a subcontractor resulted in Lockheed delivering 46 planes last year instead of the planned 50. f 35, f 35 aircraft, f 35 fighter jet, f 35 israel, f 35 jet, f 35 joint strike fighter, f 35 lightning, f 35 lightning 2, f 35 news, f 35 price, f 35 raptor, f 35b, f35 cost, f35 fighter, f35 plane, f35 program, f35 raptor, israel airforce, israel f 35, israel military power, israeli air force, israeli military strength, lockheed martin f 35 lightning ii ====================================================================================================== DISCLAIMER: Each and every content used in this video is not imaginary. They use pyrolysis, a non-burn process to convert 200 ton waste a day into biochar. 4:20 they would be taking 100% of organics out of the waste stream a a sort station. metal, plastics, glass taken out then the garbage can be used to create biochar for agriculture use or for waste to energy. 7:00 had meeting with County Council, no follow-up. Hard to get in with Department Heads. As a member of EAC he would propose projects but HELCO Commissioners like Curtis Beck would reject the ideas saying they needed no new energy sources, so waste to energy idea died along with solar and wind ideas. Their plant generates heat, methane, hydrogen and water which is used run 45% of their operation. The rest is solar and wind. 10:30 He would like DEM to open up an RFP, extend life of the landfill and use rock for roads in the County. Would share revenue streams with the County. 13:30 questions from the Commissioners 15:20 question about nitrogen and how it can be used for farming. Biochar is like coal. I tcan also be used to bind radiation 19:00 Director Bobby Jean Leithead Todd's report: article in the paper about negotiating with DOT about cost of moving lines. Bill 44 in limbo Zendo Kern making changes. Bill 79 will be amended to change to R&D. 22:00 GMO Bill 79 - BJ & Dora had emails going back and forth while she was still Planning Director to the effect that DEM wasn't a good place for it b/c they can't do oversight. R&D is the only dept that works with agriculture; they do education and grants for farmers. You'll need funding for testing and staff (voted down by Council last month). DEM does water quality testing, but they won't have money to test for GMO. 26:20 BJ has been traveling to all the baseyards. They need better equipment and do more education and get ppl to separate rubbish. May have to require private haulers to separate. Needs more analysis. 31:30 Landfill closure costs go on for 30 yrs, very high 32:20 sliver fill may add 10 yrs to landfill. 33:00 Dept of Health may not allow mining the landfill for road material. Mayor will meet w/ water supply this week to discuss costs ad billing. DEM will be moving to Waiakea Villas by Dept of Water Supply in September. Fees have not been raised since 2006 38:00 Dept. of Army permit for water quality testing - check with Dora Beck 38:45 is there a report from DOH inspection of landfill. They suggested a cover instead of using rock. RFP for a tarp. 40:20 bid for scrap metal svcs went out. Negotiating with Business Services Hawaii for another year contract. 42:42 Volcano/Glenwood transfer station repairs. Staff is at a CIP meeting with Finance to get funding. Greg and Dora working on it. 44:50 e-waste program discussion 48:00 don't stand on the garbage chutes 49:30 District member reports 49:35 Trina reports she met with researchers/pro-GMO papaya farmers. But it's moot now (b/c BJ told them DEM won't be handling the GMO regulation per the amended Bill 79 Draft 2 which has yet to be introduced) 50:20 CHair: Volcano transfer station needs funds 50:40 Sherman has not been able to meet with his Council Person who is busy with GMOs 50:50 John met with Greggor Ilagan regarding having mulch delivered to Puna. BJ suggests using mulch instead of gravel on the landfill. Parks and Rec also wants mulch. Huge demand for mulch in Hilo; quality is better at Pu'uanahulu. Be careful about transporting fireants 53:50 Hilo Landfiull Closure Plan: BJ says looking at engineering the other face (sliver fill) will add 10-12 years. Needs time to study and put out RFI (Request for Information) and RFP (Request for Proposals). Tonnages have gone down b/c of the economic downturn. Down to 400 tons/day now from 500 tons/day. Considering taking trash to Honolulu. Does not want to barge trash to the mainland. 58:40 waste to energy facilities are usually dealing with more tonnage than we have. some of the facilities use corn cobs or a more uniform feedstock. Scaling up from a demo model does not work and gets expensive. Wheelabrator's initial projections did not include permit process, went from $40-60M to $120M. Would have had to import labor pool and pay per diem. 1:03:11 Thom asks if we've reached out to Maui. A: not yet

Alex Janaway - Computer Games Producer
Alex Janaway is an associate producer at Jagex, a computer games company. There have been two big turning points in his life. One was when he was working in a movie stills archive, and he realised he wanted to do something more significant on the world stage. So he joined the Royal Engineers and spent a few years "running around building bridges, blowing stuff up." His second turning point was meeting his future wife. "The Army requires certain things of you. It requires you to give up certain levels of freedom. And I guess for me, having reached a certain age, having put roots down, I had to choose between one or the other, and she came first." So he left the army and got a job with Jagex. He plans to stay in the computer games industry now.

Monetizing Soil Health
Debbie Reed discusses research analysis of how to challenge existing paradigms in the water quality and carbon markets and how to prioritize soil health and make it a profitable cause. She shares where innovative project financing can lead to possible avenues for developing soil health credits to trade in a new marketplace. Throughout her speech, Reed highlights several scenarios in which soil health might be leveraged as a mitigating tool to reduce costs for various public and private spending projects. For example, the United States Army Corp of Engineers spends $1.3 billion a year dredging shipping lanes in waterways around the country. Bringing scientific data together about soil health practices reducing siltation can make agricultural best management practices a more attractive market. With the statistics of proactive versus reactive costs, hopefully federal funding can be redirected to support soil health causes. The private sector may also be worth pursuing for soil health funding as studies suggest that wind and water erosion cost the economy $43 to $59 billion every year. Agribusinesses that move product by barge are another potential investment source for siltation-reduction improvements. Reed thinks that water quality with regulatory load requirements might benefit soil health practitioners if a proper measurements and trades could be offered. For instance, a municipality could fund a group of farmers’ cover crop costs if it meant their water treatment plant received fewer fines on heavier-load times. What is crucial for moving forward is how and in what ways can soil be quantified as an asset. Reed suggests that uniformly-accepted quantification of soil health assets is a necessity to ensure the future of these types of market trades. Quantification tools must be integrated and user-friendly across multiple markets at a much greater scale. The simpler and more transparent the platforms for measurement and verification the better for the overall benefit of the soil health community. Tools for quantification that aren’t transparent cannot insure robustness to government agencies and in turn face issues convincing buyers. Another important aspect that can be borrowed from carbon markets is credit stacking. The ability to stack or bundle credits in carbon, water quality, etc., has proven to be extremely valuable in the market place. For instance, if an organization can buy credits that cover their water quality, carbon, and soil health credits in the same transaction, they would be more likely to do so. Debbie Reed is the Executive Director of the Coalition on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (C-AGG), the leading US multi-stakeholder organization focused on creating voluntary, sustainable, incentive-based agriculture and climate change solutions for farmers, ranchers, and society. C-AGG catalyzes change by overcoming challenges and sharing successes to help farmers and ranchers become more efficient, profitable, productive, and sustainable. Ms. Reed is also the Director of DRD Associates LLC, an organization that provides technical and strategic support to organizations in the realm of sustainable food and agriculture. Debbie previously worked at the White House Council on Environmental Quality as the Director of Legislative Affair and Agricultural Policy, White House Climate Change Task Force, and in the U.S. Senate, as Senior Staff on natural resources and agricultural issues for U.S. Senator Robert Kerrey of Nebraska. She has also worked in the USDA as a special assistant to the Deputy Under Secretary for Research, Education, and Economics and as a special assistant the the Administrator of the Agricultural Research Service. Reed has also worked for the WIC Supplemental Feeding program and for various nonprofit organizations dedicated to promoting human nutrition policies. Reed spoke before the 2nd Annual Meeting of the Soil Health Institute in St. Louis, Missouri on July 14th, 2017.

Prince William follows his brother into the British Army
SHOTLIST APTN Edingburgh 2003 1. William in sweetshop UK Pool 31 March 2005. 2. VS Prince Harry Prince Charles and Prince William in Klosters. UK Pool St Andrews 23 June 2005 3. Prince William getting receiving his degree. 4. VS Prince Williams greeting people. PRINCE WILLIAM FOLLOWS HIS BROTHER INTO THE BRITISH ARMY Prince William, a former art history student noted for his charity work, is shedding his sensitive image and embarking on a career in the British army. The 23-year-old prince expressed delight Friday at news he had won a place at the elite Sandhurst military academy, where he will follow a gruelling training programme aimed at honing his leadership qualities. The young prince, who is second in line to the British throne, learned early Friday that he had successfully passed Sandhurst's selection process and would join his younger brother, Prince Harry, at the college south of London. Harry, 21, enrolled in May, about a year after finishing his high school studies. The elder son of Charles and the late Princess Diana had previously announced his intention to train to become an army officer. He graduated in June from St. Andrews University in Scotland with a masters degree in geography. Art history was his major field of study when he began at St. Andrews but he switched to geography during his degree course. Since graduation, William has begun to undertake solo royal duties, including a trip to New Zealand. He also spent time learning about land management on various country estates - including his father's Duchy of Cornwall - and recently began a work experience placement in the charity-services division of HSBC, one of Britain's biggest banks. Royal officials have also said he will join a mountain rescue team. William has said he plans to do work with AIDS charities in Africa - a cause closely associated with his late mother, and last month he followed in Diana's footsteps by becoming patron of a British charity for young homeless people. He also packed boxes of emergency supplies for survivors of the Asian tsunami, along with his brother Harry, earlier this year. Last November, William said in an interview that he would want to fight on the front line if he joined the army. "The last thing I want to do is be mollycoddled or wrapped up in cotton wool because if I was to join the army I'd want to go where my men went and I'd want to do what they did," William said in the interview with Britain's Press Association and the British Broadcasting Corp. "I would not want to be kept back for being precious, or whatever, that's the last thing I'd want." A spokeswoman for Clarence House said it was unclear when next year William would enroll at Sandhurst. Students can start their course there in January, April or September. Stories from the Apalachicola: An Endangered River
WFSU presents a production of the Florida State University College of Communication and Information. Stories from the Apalachicola is the result of an interdisciplinary effort called the Apalachicola River Project. Students in Digital Media Production, Media and Communication Studies, English and Environmental Science and Policy partnered with Apalachicola Riverkeeper, a nonprofit group dedicated to preserving and restoring the Apalachicola River, its bay and watersheds. The group provided boats and kayaks so students could navigate the river to collect water and soil samples, record video and write stories about the effects of reduced water flow on the oyster industry, fishing and the delicate ecosystem. Students interviewed oystermen, beekeepers, legislators, historians, biologists, and the Riverkeeper, each with their own perspective on this critical time for the Apalachicola. Freshwater flows on the Apalachicola have been altered for decades, as the Army Corps of Engineers has restricted flows during droughts and modified the river channel create a shipping lane for barges. This has caused a decline in tupelo and other trees in the floodplain forest. And in 2012, during the lowest flow period ever recorded for the river, the Apalachicola Bay oyster fishery crashed. Communities along the river and bay look towards a future where the river might not provide for them as it did in generations past. For more information on the Apalachicola River Project, visit their official website: http://www.apalachicolariverproject.com/ For ongoing coverage of the Apalachicola River and Bay system, visit the WFSU Ecology Blog: https://blog.wfsu.org/blog-coastal-health/?cat=375 Did you find Stories from the Apalachicola informative?  Did it motivate you to want to help the river and bay?  Let the filmmakers know in this short survey: https://fsu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_ah4UOjQjF9kz0J7

The legacy of widespread contamination from the leftover nuclear weapons waste from the Manhattan Project Era is documented and real. Please feel free to share your story, and/or pictures of your loved ones. Many lives have been affected from downtown St Louis, to Weldon Spring, to St Louis airport, Coldwater Creek, Latty Avenue, to the most critical and complicated site at West Lake Landfill. If you grew up here but moved away and you have a story to share, please do so. Let's use this group as a way to reach out, support, pray, or just offer a few kind words to each other. Thank you. Other ways to help: Contact your Federally Elected Officials, ask them to have this site moved from Superfund under the EPA to Formerly Utilized Sites Remediation Action Plan aka FUSRAP under the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. This applies to all States, not just Missouri. The more voices of concern that is heard, the stronger the message will be that this site needs to be under the Army Corps. The meeting held on January 22nd further shows why this site should be moved from Superfund to FUSRAP. Just Moms STL continues it's 3+ year work to find ways to help the Communities near the landfills on both sides of the Missouri River be safe from not only the underground Bridgeton Landfill fire with its Toxic non-radioactive fumes, but on what needs to be done to keep that fire from the Nuclear Weapons waste located in the adjacent West Lake Landfill just 800-900 feet away.
