Proton Pump Inhibitor Dangers

02:59
PPI Safety Issues Dr. Jack Cush writing in Rheum Now reviewed the safety of proton pump inhibitors, drugs that have been used for peptic ulcer disease, as well as reflux. Among the safety concerns are… PPIs will decrease gastric acid and may affect drug blood levels where absorption is acid dependent, including several antiretroviral and cancer therapy drugs. Other drugs, such as digoxin, may be absorbed more extensively when gastric acid is reduced; thus, digoxin toxicity may occur with PPI use. Warfarin's effect also is increased in patients taking PPIs. Decreased gastric acid can lower absorption of vitamin B12, calcium, iron, and magnesium. An analysis of 9 studies found a 40% increased risk of low magnesium with PPI. If severe, hypomagnesemia may lead to muscle weakness, tetany, convulsions, arrhythmias. Due to the lowering of gastric acidity, there is a higher risk of Clostridium difficile infection and community-acquired pneumonia among PPI users. Recent large reviews show that there is a 50% increased risk of chronic kidney disease and an increased risk of acute kidney disease with chronic PPI use. PPIs may decrease bone density and increase fracture risk by reducing intestinal calcium absorption. Given these impactful risks, clinicians should try to use the lowest possible dose of PPI and to discontinue PPI therapy if it is not essential. The benefits of PPI therapy must be weighed against their potential contribution to harm in susceptible individuals. Some patients may benefit from intermittent or on-demand regimens may be sufficient to manage problems or control symptoms. Comment: Food for thought.

This is for a variety of reasons and at the end of this video, I’ll give you natural solutions for improving your energy levels for both your BODY and MIND. However, what’s interesting is that the same reasons that cause fatigue for your body and mind, can also cause memory loss, cognitive problems and may lead to dementia and Alzheimer’s. And even though this is a part of aging, many people are experiencing these negatives at a much younger age. And one reason is due to the drugs people take. And I’m not even referring to weird, rarely used drugs - but some of the most popular drugs that you or someone you know may be using. So today I’m going to quickly list the top 5 drugs that cause short AND long-term memory loss, cognitive problems and actually lead to dementia and Alzheimer's I will also give you natural alternatives as well, so make sure you watch to the end of this video. Statin Cholesterol Lowering Drugs For almost 2 decades now it’s been known that cholesterol-lowering statin drugs, such as Lipitor (Atorvastatin), Crestor (Rosuvastatin), Zocor (Simvastatin) and similar statins cause memory loss and cognitive problems. In fact, this is what I personally discovered with my own parents in 1998 and why I found natural alternatives to these toxic drugs for them. And over the years, it’s been proven more and more that these problems are the RULE and not the “exception”. In fact, researchers3 have now realized well over 80% of statin drug users, experience memory problems. Sadly, these are one of the most prescribed drugs on the planet. At the end of this video, I’ll give you natural alternatives to these drugs - the exact formula my own parents use. Anti-Depressants As much as 20% of the adult population use anti-depressants1, which is a depressing situation. In fact, in the past decade, the use of anti-depressants has increased by over 64%. According to a Harvard study2, anti-depressants can cause memory loss. The worst one being Paxil (paroxetine). However, problems can also be seen with others such as fluoxetine (Prozac) or sertraline (Zoloft), or a different type of antidepressants such as duloxetine (Cymbalta) or venlafaxine (Effexor) Anti-Anxiety Drugs Depression and anxiety typically go together. And anti-anxiety drugs, such as Benzodiazepines, cause what is called anterograde amnesia — which is the inability to form memories from events going forward in time. The most popular “benzo” drugs being alprazolam (Xanax) diazepam (Valium) lorazepam (Ativan) temazepam (Restoril) clonazepam (Klonopin) chlordiazepoxide (Librium) triazolam (Halcion) Again, I’ll give you natural alternatives to reduce anxiety at the end of this video. Cold Medicines In a Harvard study2, cold or allergy medications also cause memory loss. This would also include antihistamines (brompheniramine, chlorpheniramine and diphenhydramine) Some well-known OTC would be Midol PM® or Tylenol PM® (containing Acetaminophen, Diphenhydramine) Motrin PM® or Advil PM® (containing Diphenhydramine, Ibuprofen) PediaCare Children's Allergy and Cold® (containing Diphenhydramine, Phenylephrine) Robitussin Night Time Cough and Cold® (containing Diphenhydramine, Phenylephrine) Benadryl® Sominex® Unisom® Sadly, I had taken some of these drugs many years ago… I thought that since it’s OTC, it’s probably safe, but they aren’t. A drug is a drug - no matter how you take it or where you get it. Heart Burn / Antacids Another type of popular category of drugs that cause memory problems is heartburn and antiacids. The worst being cimetidine (Tagamet). However, the problem is also seen to a lesser extent with other similar drugs such as lansoprazole (Prevacid), omeprazole (Prilosec), or esomeprazole (Nexium) I know a lot of people who take these drugs. I would rather they improved their diet, but some people would rather just take a pill. BONUS: Pain Medications ======================================== Thank you for watching. Heartburn Drugs: What Are the Risks of Taking My Heartburn Drug?

02:01
If you have taken Prilosec, Nexium or Prevacid, please listen to this important legal announcement. The Food and Drug Administration has issued several warnings to patients that are taking these types of drugs known as Proton Pump Inhibitors or PPI’s. According to the FDA, long-term use may cause problems with the body’s ability to absorb calcium, magnesium, and other nutrients. Patients who take these drugs for an extended period may be at risk of suffering kidney damage, bone fractures, heart attack and other serious side effects. Several studies have determined that there are potentially a lot of risks involved with the use of these types of over the counter acid reflux medication. In January 2016, a study found that PPI’s increase the risk of Chronic Kidney Disease by 20-50%. Damage to the kidneys may leave them unable to filter toxins from the bloodstream. Chronic kidney failure is not reversible, so any symptoms of kidney issues such as lack of urine production or fluid retention should immediately be reported to your physician. The FDA issued warnings in 2010 that PPI’s could lead to an increased risk of hip or spine fractures. Those receiving high doses for more than a year were at the greatest risk. The FDA also issued a safety alert that PPI usage may lead to low magnesium levels, which could lead to seizures, muscle spasm or an irregular heartbeat. If you or a loved one suffered kidney damage after using these drugs, learn your legal rights. You may be entitled to financial compensation. Call us right now for your free consultation.

How to naturally get rid of GERD

03:20
In this video I show you what I do to get rid of heart burn, acid reflux caused by GERD. If you are having this problem then just follow this video and it will help you to get rid of it. If you have a burning sensation in your chest (heartburn), usually after eating GERD is caused by frequent acid reflux. When you swallow, a circular band of muscle around the bottom of your esophagus lower esophageal sphincter relaxes to allow food and liquid to flow into your stomach. Then the sphincter closes again. If the sphincter relaxes abnormally or weakens, stomach acid can flow back up into your esophagus. Gerd occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the tube connecting your mouth and stomach (esophagus). This can irritate the lining of your esophagus. Common signs and symptoms of GERD include Chest pain Difficulty swallowing Regurgitation of food Feeling of a lump in your throat This constant backwash of acid irritates the lining of your esophagus, often causing it to become inflamed. This video will show you step by step guide to fix your lower esophageal sphincter Don’t forget to leave a comment

What Drugs INCREASE Your Risk of Dementia (Updated List 2018)

We take medication expecting it to make us better, or make us feel better. The last thing we want is to take a medication for one thing, and have it make something much more important get worse. If you are taking any of the Anti-Cholinergics as a long-term medication, then that is exactly what might be happening. Acid Reflux, GERD, Heartburn. The cause and solution by Dr. Peter Glidden

02:56
Acid reflux also known as heartburn or GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) plagues 20% of the population unnecessarily. Yes that’s correct unnecessarily! So why are Proton Pump inhibitors (PPIs) drugs like Nexium, Prilosec, and Prevacid among the highest-selling classes of drugs in North America? To the tune of 9.5 billion in annual sales. Because medical doctors have it wrong when it concerns Acid Reflux. They do not know what causes it and they don't know how to cure it. So they make Billions managing it... Here are eight risk factors that Do Not cause heartburn: Smoking Pregnancy Eating a large meals Eating just before bed Lying down right after a meal Drinking alcohol, tea or coffee Eating spicy foods, citrus, fatty foods, chocolate, onions or garlic Taking medication such as aspirin, muscle relaxers or blood pressure medication These factors are known to trigger heartburn. But remember correlation does not equal causation. Medical doctors have told you that acid reflux is a result of too much stomach acid - but they can't tell you why or how this happens (it doesn't). Their ad hoc solution is to give a PPI to stop the production of stomach acid….The result no more GERD. This is like cutting off a finger to eliminate finger pain. It is an out of date, juvenile prescription which completely misses the point. Par for the course in MD land. The reality of the situation us that Acid Reflux is caused by not enough stomach acid! It is used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers, erosive esophagitis, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). GERD is a condition where the acid in the stomach washes back up into the esophagus. Sometimes omeprazole is used in combination with antibiotics (e.g., amoxicillin, clarithromycin) to treat ulcers associated with infection caused by the H. pylori bacteria (germ). Omeprazole is also used to treat Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, a condition where the stomach produces too much acid. Omeprazole is also used to treat dyspepsia, a condition that causes sour stomach, belching, heart burn, or indigestion. In addition, omeprazole is used to prevent upper gastrointestinal tract bleeding in seriously ill patients. Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It works by decreasing the amount of acid produced by the stomach. This medicine is available both over-the-counter (OTC) and with your doctor's prescription. This product is available in the following dosage forms: Tablet, Delayed Release Capsule, Delayed Release Powder for Suspension Packet Nursing NCLEX Precautions Drug information provided by: Micromedex It is important that your doctor check the progress of you or your child at regular visits. This will allow your doctor to see if the medicine is working properly and to decide if you should continue to take it. Blood and other laboratory tests may be needed to check for unwanted effects. If your or your child's condition does not improve, or if it becomes worse, check with your doctor. Hypomagnesemia on Proton-Pump Inhibitors with other medications, Mixing medications can be dangerous; this is practically true for PPI (proton pump inhibitors ), which are commonly prescribed for Acid reflux, GERD, laryngo-pharyngeal reflux (LPR) ,or Heartburn. This happens when the patient is suffering from concomitant conditions like Autoimmune Diseases, Asthma , and cancer or taking medications for them. PPI's like Aciphex Nexium Prevacid Prilosec omerprazole Protonix may lead to severe Hypomagnesemia when taken along with Azathioprine Cyclosporins rituximab (Rituxan) methotrexate (Trexall) sulfasalazine (Azulfidine). Make sure you double check with your doctor if you are considering taking any of these drugs. Hypomagnesaemia symptoms include: muscles cramps and spasms, depression, cardiac arrhythmia Source -------------------------- 'Lemonade Legs': Why do Some Patients Get Profound Hypomagnesaemia on Proton-Pump Inhibitors? http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/artic... New research tells us: YES! Corticosteroids are a class of steroid hormones that are produced in the adrenal cortex of vertebrates, as well as the synthetic analogues of these hormones. They are often prescribed by physicians for chronic or acute inflammation. Corticosteroids are also prescribed for autoimmune disease: R.A (rheumatoid arthritis), systemic lupus erythematosus. Also other conditions like: Asthma, obstructive bronchitis and many others. How Can I Get Off Prilosec?

10:03
What is Prilosec? Prilosec, "the purple pill," helps with gastroesophageal reflux disease (or GERD). Now .. what is that? Reflux, what is otherwise known as heartburn, is when the acid from the stomach goes back up the esophagus and causes burning in the chest. Prilosec decreases the amount of acid in the stomach so that you don't have as much acid that can go back up the esophagus causing that heartburn. There are definitely other ways you can manage reflux, so that you don't need to be on Prilosec. The first way is to look at what types of foods you are eating and how you are eating. The foods that worsen reflux are fatty foods, greasy foods, and foods that have a lot of caffeine like coffee, black tea, and dark chocolate. You have a muscle at the end of the esophagus called the lower esophageal sphincter that keeps food in the stomach; keeps it closed. If that muscle relaxes, then the food can go back up into the esophagus and these fatty foods, the high carbohydrate meals, caffeine, alcohol, smoking all relax that the lower esophageal sphincter allowing acid to go back into the esophagus. Another reason why people can have reflux is because they have a hiatal hernia. That is when part of the stomach actually protrudes back up into the esophagus and then the acid also goes backup into the esophagus. So now that you know why some people get reflux, then we find ways to prevent reflux. The first is simply avoid the causes and triggers. When we reduce the amount of fatty foods, the caffeine, alcohol and when we stop smoking (which has a whole other section of benefits), then we help to maintain the tone of the muscle that keeps the food in the stomach after it passes the esophagus. If you eat too large of a meal and the food just sits there and doesn't get digested the way that it's supposed to, it can push back up and cause heartburn. So eat smaller, more frequent meals. Thinking about the types of food you are eating, if you are used to eating foods that are easily digestible, then throw something in the mix that is NOT, then you might throw a shock into the system. Again, you will have food sitting in the stomach undigested and it will push back into the esophagus creating more acid in the stomach and causing heartburn. There are also things that create just an influx of acid production. One of the biggest things is stress. Stress causes an increase in acid and it doesn't matter if it's physical stress or emotional/mental stress. If the body of overly stressed, it will produce too much acid which will go up the esophagus and cause heartburn. So some of the things that you might want to do in terms of relegating this reflux are eating the smaller, more frequent meals. You can also add some supplements that will help further the digestion. The biggest recommendation I make - probiotics. Probiotics help to maintain the natural process of the stomach and intestines. When you have that good natural bacteria in the stomach and intestines, then foods can digested the way that they are supposed to be digested. Another thing you may consider taking is digestive enzymes. If you don't want to take the digestive enzymes as a pill, you would look at foods like papaya or pineapple. Then there is ginger and pepper mint. You have to be careful with peppermint because by nature, peppermint relaxes the muscles and it could relax the lower esophageal sphincter and cause heartburn .. but on the same token, peppermint is also good for facilitating digestion. So monitor the amount of peppermint, or combine it with ginger so that you get the increase effects of digestion of the ginger and the peppermint and minimizing the reflux. Here's a little recipe for you! Acid Reflux Tea: 1/4 tsp of baking soda 2 Tbsp of aloe 1 Tbsp of honey 1/8 Tbsp of virgin coconut oil 4 oz of warm water Not only does it neutralizes the acid in the stomach, but the aloe vera helps heal the stomach lining, the coconut oil helps to decrease the inflammation, and the honey gives it a sweet flavor while coating the stomach as well. Drink this every night for 30 days and it will re-balance the acid system in the stomach. Another recipe? 1 part fennel seeds 1 part flax seeds 1 part fenugreek seeds 1 part spearmint leaves Add that to a tea and drink that on a daily basis. Fennel and fenugreek are very good for digestion, as well as spearmint. Flax seed provides the fiber that digests the foods and keeps it down. Finally, you want to eat foods that are rich in celery, potatoes (red potatoes, particularly) and cabbage. This soothes gastric inflammation, which can also increase the level of reflux or the feeling of heartburn.

Constipation and GERD? Magnesium treatment.

01:46
Constipation and GERD? Magnesium treatment. Constipation. Could Constipation Contribute to GERD? Hm... Yes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijTSuDeOpdw Constipation is a very common problem ,but how it could contribute to gastroesophageal reflux disease? Constipation means that food does not move from upper digestive tract down, meaning that person has no stool for more then a day. Food stays in the large and small intestine. When new food arrives, digestive tract still has partially digested food and "new" food has almost no place to go. Also, when food stays in the digestive tract for more then 48hs, it's become rotten and a lot of gas got form. Gas irritates the digestive tract creating an inflammation. Low grade inflammation in large and small intestine could easy spread into the stomach. Low grade inflammation in the stomach will cause decreased production of HCL (hydrochloric acid). The consequences of low HCL: food will stay in the stomach more then 1 hr 30 min and LES (low esophageal sphincter) will become "tired" , small opening will get form and food with HCL may go into the esophagus, creating GERD/ gastroesophageal reflux disease / heartburn. Constipation should be treated first. I use in my practice liquid Magnesium for fast results. here is the link to it: https://amzn.to/2IFZtyx. Take one or two tablespoons per day with water or juice. Choices Matter | Health Tip #3: How to Cure Acid Reflux

08:02
Link to my blog post about acid reflux: http://healthyfuturestoday.com/2015/10/25/acid-reflux/ Here are some of my go to solutions for acid reflux: 1) Slow Down and Chew. The average American chews each bite of food only a few times before swallowing it down hard, often with a gulp of water as a chaser. Try to chew your food until it’s liquid. This significantly reduces the work of your stomach. I know this seems simple, but sometimes the simplest remedies have the most profound effects. Just by chewing your food 20-30 times per bite and not drinking much liquid with meals (see below), you may resolve your acid reflux. 2) Drink as little liquid as possible with your meals. Ingrained in our dining culture is the practice of drinking beverages with our meals. But this habit is actually causing us harm. When we drink a lot of water or other beverages during meals, we are diluting our stomach acid. This makes it less potent, leading to belching, bloating, and acid reflux. Ideally we should hydrate 20 – 30 minutes before a meal and wait 1 ½ to 2 hours after a meal to drink. In between meals is by far the best time to hydrate. Have only a small glass handy during meals to help clear your palate (e.g. 4 oz). 3) Eat less at one time. Sometimes our LES gets blown open by the sheer volume of food we try to cram into our bellies. This is especially true when we eat at restaurants. Yes, the stomach will stretch, but only so far. Try to stop eating when you are 80% full. You have to leave room (literally) for digestion to take place. 4) Fix magnesium deficiency. This is a widespread issue in the US. The USDA estimates up to 90% of Americans don’t get enough magnesium. Low magnesium can cause your muscles to be too tight or to spasm erratically. This includes the LES. If you also struggle with any regular constipation, headaches, irritability, or tight muscles, try taking a magnesium supplement (start with 400mg magnesium citrate). 5) Stop eating foods that cause your LES to spasm. So here’s the solution to acid reflux that you didn’t want to hear. Unfortunately, we tend to love the foods that are most irritating to the LES. I know it’s hard to give up some of the foods we love, but continuing to eat them and just pop a pill to ignore the pain is likely to turn into a serious illness or disease some day. The most powerful food triggers include: cooked tomato sauce, citrus juices, coffee, soda, alcohol (especially wine), peppery or spicy foods, fried food, chocolate, and things with mint in them (e.g. gum, mints, toothpaste, tea). 6) Don’t eat or drink anything 2-3 hours before bedtime. Reflux can often be worst at night. This is when all of our muscles relax at least a little bit, including our LES. If you put food in your stomach and then go to bed before it’s fully digested, reflux is much more likely. The goal is to eat throughout the day such that you just go to bed with an empty stomach – but not hungry. Not eating a full 3 hours before bed is also an excellent way to improve the quality of your sleep. 7) Experiment with acid replacement. If you suspect that low stomach acid is the cause of your reflux, try taking 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in the middle of a meal (mixed in 1 -2 oz. of water). The idea is to put something more acidic into the stomach at the right time. And finally, a few words about acid reflux medications. Antacid medications such as Tums are only treating the symptoms – they do nothing to remedy the root cause. And long-term use makes acid reflux worse. If you’re taking a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) such as Prilosec or Nexium for your acid reflux, it’s important for you to be aware that long-term use of PPI medications (more than a couple of months at the most) is dangerous! PPIs act by reducing the body’s production of acid (remember acid reflux is often a result of too little stomach acid, not too much!). PPIs prevent the absorption of critical protein and minerals that, over years, can be the true root cause of ailments such as osteoporosis, arthritis, depression, heart disease, and diabetes. If you are taking a PPI and want to stop, do not stop cold turkey; that can actually do more harm than good. Slowly wean off the medication over a month’s time.

The stomach must normally be very acidic (between 1 – 3), the lower the pH the more acid it is. If the stomach pH is not acid enough, the valve won’t close. He also talks about the purpose of stomach acid and the symptoms. Purpose of the Stomach Acid: 1. Digestion of Protein 2. Absorb Minerals 3. Kills Pathogens (or Microbes) Reasons Why the Stomach is Too Alkaline: 1. Age (Looses Strong Acidic pH) 2. Medications (Especially Anti-acids) 3. Low Salt Diets 4. Junk Foods 5. Low Potassium Foods Effects of Poor Protein Digestions: 1. Not being able to build up the full strength of your tendons/ligaments. 2. Weaker Muscles 3. Losing Disc Height 4. Loss of Collagen 5. Loss of Protein in the Bone Other Symptoms of Stomach Acid: • Gas or Inability for Protein to Digest Remedies for Stomach Acid: • Apple Cider Vinegar – Helps with Digestion of Protein • Betaine Hydrochloride - Helps you Make Hydrochloric Acid • Potassium - Helps you Make Hydrochloric Acid • Sea Salt – Provides Raw Material to Make Hydrochloric Acid • Cabbage – For Ulcer Hey guys! Today we are going to talk about the relationship between GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disorder or Acid Reflux or Indigestion) and your Joints. There is a huge connection. Now, the purpose of the stomach is three full. No. 1, to help you digest protein. No. 2 to help you absorb minerals. No. 3, to kill pathogens or microbes. We are gonna talk about the first purpose right here. Normally the stomach should normally be very very acidic. Between 1 and 3, that is really acidic for everything that work right. Not just the digestion of protein, but the closure of the valve at the top. You have a little sensors in this valve, or receptors for pH. So what happens if your stomach pH is not acid enough, it just won't close. If it is really acid, it will tend to close so that is kind of how it works. When you have GERD or Acid Reflux the normal thought is "wow I have to much acids so now I need to alkalize my body. I need to take an anti-acids" which just makes it worse, you go from the feeling of a little relief and then the next time you eat it gets worse because you are alkalizing the pH. You are actually raising the pH, we want to keep it low and very very acid. The lower the pH, the more acid it is. There is numerous reasons why your stomach would become to alkaline in the first place. No. 1, as you age you loose your strong acidic pH.Medications especially anti-acids.Low salt diets because the chloride and the sodium chloride is the precursor to make hydrochloric acid. This occurs when the upper part of the stomach and LES move above the diaphragm, a muscle that separates your stomach from your chest. Normally, the diaphragm helps keep acid in our stomach. But if you have a hiatal hernia, acid can move up into your esophagus and cause symptoms of acid reflux disease. What is the cause of chronic heartburn? When severe heartburn and acid reflux happen nearly all the time, it could be GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease, says the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA). GERD is the chronic form of acid reflux, when food and stomach acids "burp" back up from your stomach after eating. How do you fix acid reflux? Drink one tablespoon of baking soda mixed with water. Eat raw almonds, which can balance your pH and reduce acid reflux. Drink a few teaspoons of apple cider vinegar every day; it helps your digestive system do it's job properly. Drink chamomile tea. Can you have a sore throat with acid reflux? Acid reflux into the pharynx, or back of the throat, can also cause atypical symptoms. You may feel as if you constantly have sore throat, or always need to clear your throat. Additionally, it may feel as if there is a lump in the back of your throat that won't go away. What is silent reflux? Silent reflux is a somewhat confusing term used to describe laryngeal pharyngeal reflux. It is a condition in which stomach acid causes throat discomfort. The term can be confusing because the condition is not exactly silent. It is marked by hoarseness, frequent throat clearing, and coughing. What does indigestion feel like? Belching, nausea and a bloated feeling are common symptoms of dyspepsia. Most people with indigestion feel pain and discomfort in the stomach or chest area. The sensation generally appears soon after consuming food or drink. Can chest pain be caused by acid reflux? Chest pain. Chest pain, which occurs because stomach acid is splashing into the esophagus, is a classic acid reflux symptom. But the pain can last longer and be more intense than expected. Many people mistake heartburn for a heart attack. Why do you get heartburn? Heartburn, also called acid indigestion, is a symptom of gastroesophageal reflux (GERD). It can occur when acid or other contents from your stomach "back up" into the esophagus. That's the tube food passes through going from your mouth to your stomach. How long can you have heartburn for? These symptoms can sometimes last up to 2 hours or longer. In some people, heartburn symptoms may cause sleep problems, a chronic cough, asthma, wheezing, or choking episodes. Heartburn usually is worse after eating or made worse by lying down or bending over. It gets better if you sit or stand up. How do you control a heart burn? These eight steps can help ease heartburn. Eat in a heartburn-smart way. ... Avoid late-night eating. ... Don't exercise right after meals. ... Sleep on an incline. ... Identify and avoid foods associated with heartburn. ... Chew sugarless gum after a meal. ... Rule out medication side effects. ... Lose weight if you need to. Can GERD cause ear pain? Benefits And Features Of Nexium Acid Reflux

01:01
http://www.free-health-care.info/wp/acid-reflux/acid-reflux-english/benefits-and-features-of-nexium-acid-reflux/ Benefits And Features Of Nexium Acid Reflux Fortunately for acid reflux sufferers, Nexium effectively treats the symptoms of acid reflux and provides relief for the pain and burning of heartburn. What Is Acid Reflux? The lower esophageal sphincter (LES) muscle connects the esophagus to the stomach. The LES forms a tight seal to keep stomach acid where it belongs in the stomach. When the LES relaxes, acid bubbles up from the stomach and penetrates the esophagus, where it can damages the sensitive lining of the organ. What Causes Acid Reflux? A variety of foods, conditions, and behaviors can trigger an acid reflux reaction. Caffeine consumption, in coffee, tea, or chocolate, can cause the reaction, as can overeating, wearing tight clothing, or being pregnant. What Helps Acid Reflux Symptoms? To some extent, the heartburn and pain of acid reflux can be avoided by avoiding the foods and behaviors that cause the problems. However, this is not always possible. For example, overweight people who are undertaking a weight loss program may have acid reflux symptoms that persist until they can lose a certain amount of weight. Taking Nexium for acid reflux is the perfect solution for people who find themselves in a situation where they need to treat their acid reflux symptoms. By taking the "healing purple pill," as Nexium is called, acid reflux sufferers can obtain 24-hour relief from heartburn symptoms. What Is Nexium? The official medical name for Nexium is esomeprazole magnesium. Nexium for acid reflux must be prescribed by a medical doctor; it is not available without a prescription. While Nexium treats acid reflux, it may also have a negative reaction when taken with certain other drugs, notably Coumadin, HIV medications that contain Aatazanavir, and drugs like ketoconazole, iron salts, and digloxin, which rely on the gastric pH being a certain level. Unfortunately, like any drug, Nexium does have side effects. The most commonly reported side effects are headache, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Most adults take 20 or 40 mg of Nexium for acid reflux once daily, and they get 24 hour relief. Notably, Nexium is gluten free. Persons with gluten intolerance have enough gastric distress to deal with without the added complications of gluten in their medication. Therefore, Nexium is proud to be gluten-free. Healing Nexium Acid reflux can cause severe damage to the esophagus. Nexium can heal this damage, usually within four to six weeks after beginning treatment. Is Nexium right for you? Only you and your doctor can decide. If you have persistent heartburn two or more days per week, talk to your doctor about taking Nexium.

5 Foods To Eat And Avoid When You Have Acid Reflux

01:11
Title: 5 Foods To Eat And Avoid When You Have Acid Reflux Acid reflux occurs when there is acid backflow from the stomach into the esophagus. This happens commonly but can cause complications or troublesome symptoms, such as heartburn. One reason this happens is that the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) is weakened or damaged. Normally the LES closes to prevent food in the stomach from moving up into the esophagus. The foods you eat affect the amount of acid your stomach produces. Eating the right kinds of food is key to controlling acid reflux or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a severe, chronic form of acid reflux. Reflux symptoms may result from stomach acid touching the esophagus and causing irritation and pain. Here are specific foods you can incorporate into your diet to manage symptoms of acid reflux if you have too much acid. 8 Signs that Indicate Your Body is Too Acidic and How to Fix it Fast

11:42
Like, Comment, Subscribe and invite all your friends to see our videos. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfR3Y90G-fFDYI6i7E7xPBQ Here are some symptoms that indicate your body is too acidic. 1. Excess Weight When your body’s alkaline balance is not maintained, there is excess waste product in the form of acid in your body. This excess acid is not being eliminated because the colon, kidneys, lymph system and skin organs responsible for flushing toxins out of the body— are overwhelmed with a torrent of toxins from the excess acid. The body deals with the excess acid by pushing it back into the fat tissues, where the acid clings to the fat cells. This is the reason you are unable to lose weight when your body is too acidic. Your body requires the fat cells to store the excess acid. 2. Weak Bones When your fluids are too acidic, your body will do everything in its power to maintain an alkaline balance to keep functioning properly. The body will compensate by pulling minerals from your tissues and other organs to alkalize and minimize acidity. One of these minerals is calcium found in your bones, necessary for maintaining their strength. Your bones become weak when your body depletes their calcium reserve in order to neutralize the acidity of your body. If you have osteoporosis or osteopenia, or you fracture your bones easily, your body might just be too acidic. This is the reason patients of osteoporosis and osteopenia are asked to refrain from acidic foods, such as beef, caffeine and soda. 3. Dental Problems Just as your bones hold calcium reserves, so do your teeth. Excess acid in the body also results in your system pulling calcium from your teeth to alkalize your body and prevent it from getting sick. A 2015 study published in the International Journal of Chemical Engineering and Applications notes that low pH levels in the mouth can cause demineralization of the tooth enamel. Further exposure of the mouth bacteria to sugary sweet foods and beverages can exacerbate the amount of lactic acid production in the mouth, resulting in cavities, the study further notes. As acidity in your body starts affecting your teeth, you may experience increased sensitivity to foods and drinks that are too cold or too hot. You may also develop cavities, which may be particularly painful when you consume something sweet. Another associated symptom includes bleeding gums, which may occur right after you brush your teeth. 4. Fatigue Too much acidic content in the body also makes it more susceptible to bacteria, fungi and viruses. An acidic environment is perfect for these microorganisms to thrive. Thus, hordes of microorganisms acquire a foothold in the digestive tract, gums, and other organs and tissues, triggering the immune system into overdrive to fight these infectious entities. Overtime, the immune system wears out and your body becomes deprived of energy. Furthermore, these organisms interfere with your body’s ability to absorb essential nutrients, such as minerals and vitamins. Poor absorption of nutrients affects the manufacturing of hormones and enzymes needed to produce energy. This further induces a state of fatigue. 5. Skin Problems Skin problems are dermatological manifestations of a low pH level. The skin is also one of the detoxifying organs of the body. When there is too much acid floating around your bloodstream, it becomes prone to bacteria and toxin overload. In such a scenario, the liver often falls short of eliminating all acidic toxicity from the body, and the skin tries to compensate by trying to flush them out. This process of detoxification manifests itself in the form of acne, allergies, rashes and eczema. 6. Mucus Buildup Mucus production is the body’s natural defense mechanism against an acid buildup in an effort to flush it out of the body through the nasal passage. It might also indicate an acid buildup in the nasal passage itself. If you suffer mucus buildup regularly, it is a sign that your body is overloaded with acid. Urgent medical attention becomes necessary in such a case because the constant exposure of the lungs to mucus expands and compresses it too often, eventually irritating it, and resulting in excessive coughing, wheezing, sinus problems, breathing problems and chest pain. 7. Muscle Pain Too much acid in the body can cause the muscles to constrict, which further obstructs the oxygen-carrying blood capillaries running through the muscles, causing strain and oxygen deprivation. It also obstructs the absorption of nutrients and vitamins from the blood necessary for proper functioning. In such an event, the deprived muscles overexert themselves to keep functioning, resulting in soreness and pain. Muscle pain accompanied by fatigue is an even clearer indication of an acid overload in the body.

Heartburn Pills Damage Your Heart, Kidneys and Bones…Here’s What You Can Do To Fix This

06:37
Heartburn Pills Damage Your Heart, Kidneys and Bones…Here’s What You Can Do To Fix This According to the latest statistics, heartburn is one of the most common digestive disorders in the United States. The experts warn that you should be very careful, because if it’s left untreated, acid reflux can cause irritation and damage to the oesophagus, lungs, vocal cords and throat as well as cause pneumonia, ulcers, and breathing problems. This condition can quickly become unmanageable as sufferers have trouble going about their daily lives because of chest pain experienced after meals and throughout the night. UNFORTUNATELY, more than 15 million Americans currently rely on prescription heartburn medication to manage their symptoms. Proton pump inhibitors, the main medication prescribed for the condition, are currently the most widely prescribed drugs in the world. The MILLION-DOLLAR question – how does heartburn medication work? First of all, you should know that there are many different types of heart medications on the market shelves today. And, some of them, like tums and pesto-bismol, are available over-the-counters. And others, like Prilosec, Prevacid and Nexium, can only be taken through a prescription. Heartburn “appears” when stomach acid backs up into the tube that carries food from your mouth to your stomach. Prescripion proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) reduce the production of acid in the stomach. This makes any stomach juice that may reach the esophagus less irritating. Ladies and gentlemen, this is very important for you to remember – these drugs are not a quick fix. They can have devastating side-effects and multiple studies have shown that 70% of patients taking them don’t actually need them. Here are just a few risks associated with this medication. Kidneys Disease A recent study, conducted by group of experts at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Health, has analyzed two sets of data representing more than 250,000 people in an attempt to find a link between PPI use and kidney problems. The experts found that regular users of PPIs were 13% more likely to develop chronic kidney disease than acid reflux sufferers that do not take the medication. Other studies have found that PPI use makes patients 20%-50% higher risk of chronic kidney disease. The condition is known to cause toxic overload, fluid retention and central nervous system damage. Heart Disease Study, conducted by scientists at the Stanford University in California, has found that people with gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD) who took PPIs had a 16 % risk of heart attack. They were also twice as likely to die from cardiovascular problems. Another study has found that the drug may lead to cardiovascular problems. The findings show that proton-pump inhibitors may not only lower stomach acid, they may also affect the health of the blood vessel itself. This is mostly because of the reduced levels of nitric oxide, a chemical which is produced to protect and relax blood vessels. This can lead to an increased risk of heart attack. According to Dr. John Cooke, chair of cardiovascular sciences at the Houston Methodist Research Institute, PPI users are 16- 21% more likely to suffer a heart attack over a 17-year period than chronic acid reflux suffers who were not taking the medication. Fracture Risk You should also know that the FDA has issued warnings about the increased risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures associated to PPI use. PPI use of at least 7 years was shown to make patient two times more likely to suffer an osteoporosis-related fracture. The experts also warn that 5 years of regular use was associated with an increase risk of hip fractures. Other affected areas included the wrist and spine. Nutrient Malabsorption We all know that the stomach acid is important for the body to absorb vitamin B12 and magnesium. Other nutritional deficiencies caused by the drug include calcium and iron. This can lead to: -Seizures -Arrhythmias -Muscle spasms -Anemia -Nerve damage -Psychiatric problems -Dementia NOTE: acid reflux medication can cause these problems within the first year of use. Unfortunately, supplements cannot remedy these deficiencies as long as the drugs are still being taken. And, one last thing – PPIs have also been linked to pneumonia and Clostridium difficile infection and PPI therapy has led to an increase in hospital mortality in about 90% of patients. How to Manage Acid Reflux NOTE: PPI prescription is an inappropriate treatment for most patients. They claim that all sufferers MUST start by changing their diet, stop smoking or reduce their alcohol consumption. -People, stomach acid plays an important role in breaking down food and absorbing nutrients, and also kills bacteria and microbes. And, long-term maintenance use of acid-suppressing drugs

Symptoms of indigestion can also be caused by: acid reflux disease (GERD) gastric cancer pancreatic or bile duct abnormalities peptic ulcers (sores in the lining of the stomach, esophagus, or duodenum which can be caused by H. pylori bacteria) Sometimes, there’s no known cause of indigestion (functional dyspepsia). Functional dyspepsia may be caused by abnormal muscle motility (squeezing action) in the area where the stomach muscles digest and move food into the small intestine. Read more: Learn about rumination disorder and indigestion » Diagnosing indigestion Your doctor will likely start by asking questions about your medical history and eating habits. You’ll also undergo a physical examination. And your doctor may order X-ray images of your abdomen to see if there are any abnormalities in your digestive tract. Your doctor may also collect samples of your blood, breath, and stool to check for a type of bacteria that causes peptic ulcers. Your doctor can use an endoscopic to check your upper digestive tract for abnormalities. During an endoscopy, your doctor passes a small tube with a camera and biopsy tool through your esophagus into your stomach. Then you doctor can check the lining of the digestive tract for diseases, and collect tissue samples. You’ll be mildly sedated for this procedure. An upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy can diagnose the following: reflux esophagitis ulcers inflammatory diseases infection cancer Treatment options for indigestion Medications Several medications can treat indigestion, but may cause side effects. Over-the-counter antacids like Maalox and Mylanta help neutralize stomach acid, but may cause diarrhea or constipation. H2 receptor antagonists (H2RAs) like Zantac and Pepcid reduce stomach acid. Side effects are uncommon, but can include: nausea vomiting diarrhea rash or itching constipation headache bleeding or bruising Prokinetics, like prescription medications Reglan and Motilium, improve the muscle action (motility) of the digestive tract. These medications may cause the following: depression anxiety involuntary movements or spasms fatigue Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) like Prilosec reduce stomach acid, but are stronger than H2RAs. Side effects include: nausea and vomiting constipation diarrhea cough headache backache dizziness abdominal pain Both PPIs and H2 drugs are typically used to treat peptic ulcers. If H. pylori are the cause of ulcers, these drugs are used in combination with antibiotics like clarithromycin and amoxicillin. Lifestyle changes and home care Medication isn’t the only treatment for indigestion. You may be able to improve digestion and relieve uncomfortable symptoms with lifestyle adjustments. For example: Eat smaller meals throughout the day. Avoid spicy, fatty foods that can trigger heartburn. Eat slower and don’t eat before lying down. Stop smoking. Lose excess body weight. Reduce the amount of coffee, soft drinks, and alcohol you consume. Get plenty of rest. Stop taking medicines that irritate the stomach lining, such as NSAIDs Reduce stress through yoga or relaxation therapy. Outlook Poor digestion is a common problem, but you shouldn’t ignore indigestion that’s chronic, severe, or doesn’t respond to over-the-counter medication. If left untreated, the symptoms of indigestion may interfere with your quality of life. If you’re can’t manage indigestion at home, speak with your doctor to fine the underlying cause of poor digestion.

Treat and Stop Acid Reflux with Natural Medicine - Dr. Patti Kim, ND

04:57
Low stomach acid causes most Acid Reflux symptoms, according to Dr. Patti Kim, ND (Naturopathic Doctor). In this video interview, Dr. Kim discusses: 1) The symptoms of Acid Reflux, including burning, heat or pain sensation in chest and/or throat area, regurgitation, belching due to the sphincter being weakened, feeling full sooner than normal, chronic sore throats or laryngitis. 2) The conventional treatment for Acid Reflux, including calcium carbonate antacids such as Tums, Maalox, Mylanta; or proton pump inhibitors such as Prilosec, Nexium, Prevacid and Protonix. 3) That neutralizing stomach acid or stopping stomach acid production with artificial drugs can be harmful to the body because of the numerous side effects associated with the drugs, and that this type of conventional symptom treatment does not treat the root cause. 4) That stress is a primary cause of lowering stomach acid. 5) That stomach acids leak into the esophagus because of a weak sphincter (often due to stress). 6) Factors that influence acid reflux: poor nutrition, foods that cause inflammation, eating spicy foods and alcohol. 7) Natural Medicine treatment of acid reflux includes: stomach pH may be tested; goal is to raise stomach acid (or lower if too high) through dietary changes, exercise, herbs, nutritional supplements, digestive supplements and Homeopathic remedies. 8) Especially important is removal of processed foods and eating whole, organic foods. 9) Dr. Kim has a great success rate of stopping acid reflux: most of her patients are symptom free within a week.
