CUP - Cancer of Unknown Primary @CUP_Jo
To raise awareness of Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP), the CUP Foundation -- Jo's friends hit the streets to ask people who they would most like to have a cup of tea with. CUP is hidden cancer which has spread, but its origin cannot be identified which makes treatment extremely difficult. Help us raise awareness right now by sharing. Who would you like to have a cup of tea with? What is Metastatic Cancer?
What is Metastatic Cancer? Let’s learn about Metastatic cancer. When cancer cells break away from the primary spot where they were formed and spread to other parts through lymph system or blood, it is known as metastatic cancer. The cancer cells form tumours in other parts of the body, which are known as metastatic tumours. However, both the primary and metastatic cancer are same in nature. Often, a metastasis occurs in the stage four of many forms of cancer, says cancer.gov. Metastasis is a serious stage as it means that the cancer was strong enough to spread to other parts of the body. As metastatic cancer is similar to the primary form of cancer, so, for example, if breast cancer spreads to lungs, it will be called metastatic breast cancer, not lung cancer. The treatment for the metastatic cancer would be like that of stage IV breast cancer. Because the cancers may be similar in nature, doctors can often fail to locate the primary spot of cancer. Such a diagnosis is known as cancer of unknown primary origin, or CUP. So that is the information about Metastatic cancer. What is Metastasis?
What is Metastasis? Metastasis is the spread of cancer cells to new areas of the body (often by way of the lymph system or bloodstream). A metastatic cancer, or metastatic tumor, is one which has spread from the primary site of origin (where it started) into different area(s) of the body. Tumors formed from cells that have spread are called secondary tumors. The cancer may have spread to areas near the primary site (regional metastasis), or to parts of the body that are farther away (distant metastasis). Let’s learn about diagnosing metastatic cancer. Cancer that has spread from the primary (original) site to other places in the body is generally classified as advanced. When the cancer has spread only to nearby tissues or lymph nodes, it is called locally advanced cancer. When the cancer has spread to other parts of the body, it is called metastatic cancer. The liver, lungs, lymph nodes, and bones are common areas of spread or metastasis. Even when cancer spreads to a new location, it is still named after the area of the body where it started. For example, a person with breast cancer that has spread to the bones is said to have breast cancer with bone metastases. If a cancer has spread widely throughout the body before it is discovered and it is unknown exactly where it started, it is called cancer of unknown primary origin. Treatment for metastatic cancer aims to slow the growth or spread of the cancer. Treatment depends on the type of cancer, where it started, the size and location of the metastasis, and other factors. Typically, metastatic cancer requires systemic therapy, or medications given by mouth or injected into the bloodstream to reach cancer cells throughout the body, such as chemotherapy or hormone therapy. Other treatments may include biological therapy, radiation therapy, surgery, or a combination of these. Even if the cancer has stopped responding to treatment, many therapies can ease side effects and improve quality of life. Palliative treatments, which may be the same treatments used to treat cancer, aim to relieve symptoms and side effects. So that is all about metastasis. 7 Early Symptoms of a Serious Disease You Must Know
The human body is made so that it sends us signals as symptoms to let us know something’s wrong. Sadly, many of us overlook such signs, thinking it’ll be all right anyway. That’s why we gathered several symptoms that may signal cancer – we recommend taking them very seriously. However, if you see any of these in yourself or one of your close ones, don’t jump to conclusions. Many of them may speak to very different diseases, so it’s still best to consult a doctor. TIMESTAMPS Skin neoplasms 0:45 A persistent cough 1:19 Skin itching 1:45 Bowel function changes 2:08 Secretions when urinating 2:30 Abrupt weight loss 2:50 A persistent sore throat 3:26 SUMMARY - Neoplasms are considered to be a sign of skin or breast cancer. Other symptoms include: • Hard knots in the breast and/or armpits. • Irritation or rash of unknown origin that’s not associated with a food or cosmetic allergy. • A decrease in appetite. • Abrupt body weight loss. • A uterine neoplasm causes genital itching. • Brain cancer may provoke itching in the nostrils. • Mucous or purulent secretions. • Spontaneous defecation. • Pain in the kidneys. • Chronic weakness. • Hoarseness of speech proceeding to loss of voice. • Coughing up blood, bad breath. Keep in mind that these observations can’t and shouldn’t be used to diagnose yourself because they may be associated with other diseases. However, if you’ve noticed any of the above, don’t ignore them. Consult your doctor, and have yourself examined. Vaginal Cancer | Cervical Cancer Stages | Vain Cancer | Cervical Cancer
Vaginal Cancer | Cervical Cancer Stages | Vain Cancer | Cervical Cancer Description Vaginal cancer is a rare type of cancer that begins in the vagina or spreads to the vagina from other body parts like the cervix, womb, or ovaries. The former type is called primary vaginal cancer, while the latter type is known as secondary vaginal cancer.1 The exact cause of most vaginal cancers is unknown. A number of other conditions may cause cells of the vagina to become cancerous. However, scientists have zeroed in on some factors that may cause vaginal cancer.2 There are different kinds of risk factors. Some risk factors such as the person’s age or race can’t be changed. But others preventable factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, and diet can definitely be changed. Sometimes, a person with one or more such risk factor may never develop vaginal cancer. On the other hand, not having any risk factors doesn’t mean that a person won’t develop the disease.3 Some well-established causes of vaginal cancer are mentioned here. Uncommon Types of Cancer
http://www.healthybalanceddiet.org Uncommon Types of Cancer • Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma This type of cancer affects the nasopharynx. It affects the back of the throat and the nose making it hard to detect because of its site. The nasopharnyx contains squamous cells and because of gene mutation these cells over reproduce. The real cause as to why gene mutation happens is still unknown but studies have shown that being infected with the Epstein-Barr virus increases cancer risk. During the first stages, the symptoms are not visible but as the stage advances, lump in the neck due to inflamed lymph nodes are seen. Other symptoms include nasal congestion, blood nasal discharge, presence of blood in saliva, headaches, loss of hearing and recurring ear infections. • Vaginal Cancer Vaginal cancer is an uncommon type of cancer among women. This type of cancer happens along the muscular tube that links the outer genitals to the uterus specifically in the cells that lines the birth canal. According to health experts, primary vaginal cancer that originates in the vagina is very rare as there are various types of vaginal cancers. Symptoms of vaginal cancer are abnormal vaginal bleeding, lump in the vagina, pain during urination, watery discharge, constipation and pelvic pain. • Heart Cancer Heart cancer is very rare because it can either come out as primary heart tumor or secondary heart tumor. Malignant heart cancers come in different types such as leiomyosarcomas, liposarcomas and angiosarcomas to name a few. Heart cancer can lead to death in just two years of diagnosis. They are fatal cancers because it can block the blood flow in the heart and quickly infiltrates the myocardium causing death. • Appendix Cancer We may have all heard of appendicitis but rarely appendix cancer. A malignant type of appendix cancer called mucinous cystadenocarcinoma affects the wall of the appendix or the epithelial cells of the mucous in the peritoneum. • Male Breast Cancer Breast cancer could be something we may hear often but this becomes common because it happens mostly to women but breast cancer among males makes it an uncommon type of cancer. This type of cancer spreads in the lymphatic system and blood stream in males similar to what happens to female breast cancer. Because males have smaller breast size as opposed to females, detecting it makes it easier. But most cases of male breast cancer are found in their 3rd to 4th stage. Sister Mary Joseph nodule
In medicine, the Sister Mary Joseph nodule or more commonly node, also called Sister Mary Joseph sign, refers to a palpable nodule bulging into the umbilicus as a result of metastasis of a malignant cancer in the pelvis or abdomen. Gastrointestinal malignancies account for about half of underlying sources, and men are even more likely to have an underlying cancer of the gastrointestinal tract. Gynecological cancers account for about 1 in 4 cases. Nodules will also, rarely, originate from appendix cancer Pseudomyxoma peritonei. Unknown primary tumors and rarely, urinary or respiratory tract malignancies cause umbilical metastases. How exactly the metastases reach the umbilicus remains largely unknown. Proposed mechanisms for the spread of cancer cells to the umbilicus include direct transperitoneal spread, via the lymphatics which run alongside the obliterated umbilical vein, hematogenous spread, or via remnant structures such as the falciform ligament, median umbilical ligament, or a remnant of the vitelline duct. Sister Mary Joseph nodule is associated with multiple peritoneal metastases and a poor prognosis. This video is targeted to blind users. Insights into Cancer: Head and Neck Cancers
Head and neck cancers and cancers of the throat used to be diseases seen only in elderly patients but are on the rise in younger and healthier patients. There has been a rise in the number of these cancers, particularly those caused by particular forms of the human papilloma virus which, when found early, are highly treatable. Advances in treatment have focused on preserving function and quality of life. The treatments, however, often require a multi-disciplinary approach using a combination of modalities. Dr. Abie Mendelson will discuss the many advances in robotic surgery. Dr. Allen Chen will talk about radiation treatment and the importance of preserving function. Dr. Deborah Jean Lee Wong will explore the chemotherapeutic agents that help sensitize the tumors to radiation treatments. These treatments, even in their best form, take a toll on the physical well-being of the patient and often require considerable symptom management. And Carolyn Katzin, an Integrative Specialist with specialized training in nutrition, addresses how to manage nausea, swallowing, eating and maintenance of body weight. The information presented will assist patients and families in making decisions, understanding treatments and preserving well-being into survivorship.

Lung Cancer - Overview, risk factors & screening - (Part 1 of 3)
This video was developed by the Task Force to provide primary care physicians with key information about lung cancer screening. The video references the Task Force’s 2016 lung cancer guideline recommendations. The video explains disease progression; lung cancer screening; and the Task Force lung cancer screening guideline recommendations, including the overall benefits and harms of screening. Lung cancer: Overview, risk factors & screening The Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care is a group of experts who develop recommendations to either screen, or not screen, for specific diseases in primary care. Lung cancer is a disease that occurs when cells in the lung start to grow in an uncontrolled way. The cancer may begin in one or both lungs and could spread to other parts of the body. Lung cancer is one of the most common types of cancer diagnosed in Canada and is the leading cause of cancer-related death among Canadians. The chances of survival 5 years after diagnosis with advanced lung cancer are one of the lowest cancer survival rates in Canada. Lung cancer may not cause any symptoms during the early stages of the disease. By the time people start experiencing symptoms, the cancer is usually at an advanced stage and difficult to treat. Who is at risk for getting lung cancer? Smoking and age are the biggest risk factors for lung cancer. Almost all people who get lung cancer in Canada are over 50, and the disease becomes more common as people age. More than half of new cases of lung cancer are in people older than 70 years of age. Cigarette smoking is the main preventable cause of lung cancer, accounting for more than 80% of cases; other causes include, exposure to radon, second-hand smoke and other air pollutants, occupational exposures to smoke and asbestos, family history and prior radiation to the chest. What does screening mean? When doctor’s screen for lung cancer, it means that they are looking for lung cancer in people who don’t show any signs or symptoms of having the disease. The idea behind screening is that if doctors can detect lung cancer when the disease is at an early stage, they may be able to treat the cancer earlier and thereby lengthen the person’s life. Screening involves casting a wide net, with an imperfect test, to identify people who may have cancer. People with abnormal results will have to undergo extra, more invasive tests to determine if they actually have cancer. The test may also identify those with abnormal results who do not have cancer. The Task Force recommends screening for lung cancer only in people aged 55-74 years who have a history of heavy smoking and who are either current smokers or who quit within the last 15 years. Screening does not apply to people with a history of lung cancer or who are suspected of having lung cancer. That is because screening is done to detect people who have no indication that they may have cancer. People with a history of lung cancer or who have symptoms should be monitored closely by their doctor. If you have any questions, please consult your doctor. Pet Health Tips - Some Great Pet Health Tips
Pet Health Tips - click here: http://www.HowsMyPet.com How much do you know about pet cancers? An important part of looking after your dog is tracking its health - that's why we designed our Hows My Pet software - Ultimate Pet Organizer - All pet owners want one thing - for their loved pets to be healthy, happy, playful, and active. When animals become spiritless or inactive, pet owners should consider veterinary care. If symptoms progressively worsen, animals should be taken to a veterinary hospital. Many common diseases and illnesses found in animals are easily cured; however, cancer is best treated at an animal hospital staffed by board-certified oncology professionals. While cancer in animals can be quite common, there is no clear indication what causes cancer. More Pet Health Tips: One type of cancer common in dogs is mast cell tumors. Mast cell tumors can occur at any age and most commonly occur in the superficial layers of the skin, but can also occur in the spleen, liver, and bone marrow. Certain breeds of dogs are more inclined to be affected by this disease - thought to be a genetic trait. Breeds that can become victims to mast cell tumors are Boxers, Bulldogs, Beagles, English Setters, and Golden and Labrador Retrievers. Boxers top this list and require regular check-ups by a primary care veterinarian. An alert pet owner can notice such cancer at a very early stage; however, many times it can go unnoticed. Veterinary doctors may stage the tumor by performing a needle aspirate biopsy/cytology, complete blood count, serum chemistry profile, lymph node aspirate, and an abdominal ultrasound to check the liver and spleen. Further testing may include urine analysis, bone marrow aspirate, ultrasound, and X-rays. If mast cell tumors are detected, the best treatment is complete surgical removal. There are many specialty and emergency animal care hospitals that offer 24-hour emergency care and a full array of board-certified specialists for serious or critical conditions. These facilities are generally high-end surgery centers as well. It is considered safe to remove the mast cell tumor, as well as the tissue that surrounds it within a range of 2-3 cm. In some areas, where this 2-3 cm rule cannot be applied, a repeated biopsy and radiation treatment are done to ensure no further growth. Low-grade tumors can easily be cured through local surgery, whereas high grade tumors may require systematic procedures or chemotherapy. For this reason, it becomes crucial to continuously check your pet health to prevent cancer and seek treatment in early stages. While the cause remains unknown, seeking immediate treatment is an effective, preventative measure to ensure pet health. If large bumps are detected in your pet, it is important to remember to visit the nearest veterinary hospital that offers specialty and emergency animal care. Pet Health Tips A well-equipped modern veterinary hospital can increase the chances of your dog's survival. It is a leading cause of cancer death in men and women in the United States. Cigarette smoking causes most lung cancers. The more cigarettes you smoke per day and the earlier you started smoking, the greater your risk of lung cancer. High levels of pollution, radiation and asbestos exposure may also increase risk. There are many types of lung cancer. Each type of lung cancer grows and spreads in different ways and is treated differently. Treatment also depends on the stage, or how advanced it is. Treatment may include chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. Lung cancer that originates in the cells of the lungs is called primary lung cancer; however, cancer may also spread to the lung from other parts of the body. Metastatic cancers spread to the lungs most commonly from the breast, colon, prostate, kidney, thyroid gland, stomach, cervix, rectum, testis, bone, and skin (melanoma). More than 90% of primary lung cancers start in the bronchi such lung cancer is called bronchogenic carcinoma. The specific types of lung cancer are small cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, large cell carcinoma, and adenocarcinoma. The last three types of lung cancer are often referred to as nonsmall cell lung cancers. Alveolar cell carcinoma originates in the small air sacs of the lung (alveoli). Although alveolar cell carcinoma can occur at a single site, it often develops simultaneously in more than one area of the lung. Less common lung tumors are bronchial carcinoid (which may be cancerous or noncancerous), chondromatous hamartoma and sarcoma. Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system; it may start in the lungs or spread to them. Lung cancer is the rapid growth of abnormal cells in the lung. It can start anywhere in the lungs and affect any part of the respiratory system . When we breathe in, the lungs take in oxygen, which our cells need to live and carry out their normal functions. When we breathe out, the lungs get rid of carbon dioxide, which is a waste product of the body's cells. Cancers that begin in the lungs are divided into two major types, non-small cell lung cancer and small cell lung cancer, depending on how the cells look under a microscope. Causes of Lung Cancer 1. How about us adults too? Learn more at http://www.ThomasDeLauer.com Colostrum is a milky fluid that is secreted from mammals the first few days following giving birth. It differs from milk in that the antibody levels are up to 100 times that of milk for the purpose of fighting diseases from bacteria and viruses. Main purposes include: 1. Delivering nutrients 2. Strengthen immune system 3. Intestinal microbiota balancing 4. Gastrointestinal health 5. Enhance tissue growth and repair It is high in nutrients and low in fat, making it easy for newborns to digest. It serves the purpose of both delivering nutrients and helping to pass immunity from pathogens from the mother to the child. Homologous transfer occurs from the mother to the child of the same species. Heterologous transfer occurs from the mother of one species to a member of another species, for example from cows to humans. Bovine colostrum is that from cows. It is hypothesized that bovine colostrum could help with intestinal problems in humans. Hyperimmune bovine colostrum has been created by humans by giving cows vaccines. -The cows produce antibodies against these disease agents and pass these through the milky fluid -Currently being tested for treatment of diarrhea caused by rotavirus in children, AIDs and following bone marrow transplant -The hope is that these cow antibodies will work in humans, however thus far the antibodies do not seem to be very active in humans A 2014 study published in the Nutrition and Reviews journal looked at 51 studies looking at the benefits of bovine colostrum in humans. -Studies hypothesized that bovine colostrum could provide immunological and gastrointestinal benefits -Of the studies that have confirmed these benefits, they had poor methodology and the results were not confirmed by repeat investigation *Further studies are needed to draw clinical use conclusions The colostrum makeup varies by mammal depending on their reproductive strategy - this means that the content and the purpose of the colostrum differs between species. Immunoglobulins are a family of proteins found in milk, mucus and blood. -The antibodies in colostrum -Different classes: IgM, IgA, IgG, IgE, IgD -IgM - associated with primary infection, the first time an organism is exposed to an antigen. -low potency in preventing infection -IgA - found in mucosal secretions -IgG - the main immunoglobulin found in bovine colostrum and milk Human fetuses receive the majority of their immunoglobulins through the placenta, not through the colostrum. -The colostrum immunoglobulins seem to help gastrointestinal health here -High IgA, low IgG and IgM -Human milk and colostrum have very similar immunoglobulin properties Baby cows receive the majority of their immunoglobulins through the colostrum. -Very high IgG, lower IgM and IgA -Bovine milk and colostrum have very different immunoglobulin properties. -The IgG concentration decreases rapidly There are other compounds and growth-factors found in colostrum when compared to milk. Becoming a popular supplement for athletes: - In spite of not well understood value of bovine colostrum in humans - Intense training can strain immune system - possibility that BC could help with this - Also hypothesized to help muscle growth and repair - Increased nutritional concentration may help performance - Bioavailability of components in unknown Few side effects have been found, so it is currently considered safe. Gregg Braden - The 7 Essene Mirrors
From the perspective of the ancient Essenes, every human on the earth is an initiate in the Mystery School that we call Life. Whether they are conscious of it or not, every human will experience in the presence of others mirrors of themselves in that moment. If we have the wisdom to recognize those mirrors, we may accelerate the evolution of emotion and understanding. What the Essenes said was that for us to know and master ourselves in this world, we will see one or some combination of mirrored patterns in others. The seven mirrors are progressively more and more subtle. Back in the '70s, we heard about the first mirror, of who you are in the moment. The notion was that if you find yourself around individuals who are angry or dishonest, they are showing you your dishonesty or anger. Sometimes the mirrors would apply, but sometimes they wouldn't. We had discovered the first mirror, but had yet to see the other mirrors, such as the second mirror, which reflects what we judge in the moment. This is tremendously powerful but very subtle. The ancient Essenes had a very sophisticated understanding of interpersonal human relationships and the role of emotion in those relationships. It's the role of emotion that we have carefully sifted out of our Western experience up until very recently. Now, as we go back into these texts, we see that it is emotion that proves the power and, when coupled with logic, true magic and miracles occur.

Medicine by Alexandros G. Sfakianakis,Anapafseos 5 Agios Nikolaos 72100 Crete Greece,00306932607174,00302841026182,alsfakia@gmail.com SUBACUTE NECK MASSES Subacute masses are noticed within weeks to months. Although these masses might grow somewhat quickly, they often go unnoticed at onset because of their asymptomatic nature. A persistent asymptomatic neck mass in an adult should be considered malignant until proven otherwise.6 Because delayed diagnosis contributes to decreased survival in conditions such as laryngeal cancer, it is paramount for family physicians to recognize common presentations of head and neck cancers.7,8 Squamous cell carcinomas of the upper aerodigestive tract are the most common primary neoplasms of the head and neck, and their metastases are often the source of cervical lymphadenopathy of unknown origin.8 Common presenting symptoms include nonhealing ulcers, dysarthria, dysphagia, odynophagia, loose or misaligned teeth, globus, hoarseness, hemoptysis, and oropharyngeal paresthesias.8 Lymph nodes associated with malignancy are usually firm, fixed, and matted. However, any persistent cervical lymphadenopathy or symptoms in the setting of risk factors, nonresponse to antibiotics, or unclear etiology warrants further investigation.7 Risk factors for upper aerodigestive tract cancers include male sex and use of alcohol, tobacco, or betel nut (commonly chewed by Southeastern Asians).8 Additional risk factors for oropharyngeal cancer include a family history of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck and poor oral hygiene.9 A subset of squamous cell carcinomas with increasing prevalence includes those related to human papillomavirus infection (especially high-risk human papillomavirus 16).9,10 These lesions present with rapidly enlarging, lateral, cystic lymph nodes; persistent cervical nodal hypertrophy; palatine or lingual tonsillar asymmetry; dysphagia; voice changes; or pharyngeal bleeding.10 The population most at risk is 35- to 55-year-old white men with a history of smoking, heavy alcohol use, and multiple sex partners (especially involving orogenital contact).9 Nearly 80% of salivary gland tumors are benign and arise in the parotid gland.1 These tumors are unilateral, asymptomatic, slow-growing, mobile masses, in contrast to malignant tumors, which may have rapid growth, skin fixation, pain, or cranial nerve involvement (especially cranial nerve VII [facial]).1,11 An intraparotid or isolated pre-auricular lymph node is another diagnostic possibility. Excisional biopsy is the preferred diagnostic approach for these tumors following review of contrast-enhanced CT or FNAB results.11 Persistent glandular enlargement with symptoms of xerophthalmia and xerostomia may point to Sjögren syndrome, whereas a hypertrophied, fibrotic gland may suggest chronic sialadenitis caused by a duct stone (sialolith) or stenosis.12 Skin cancers, especially melanoma, also metastasize to local lymph nodes. When a primary head and neck cancer is not evident to explain regional lymphadenopathy, physicians should search mucosal areas (nose, paranasal sinuses, oral cavity, and nasopharynx) for melanoma.7 Rarely, metastases from basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma lead to lymphadenopathy.7 Constitutional symptoms of fever, chills, night sweats, and weight loss may point to distant metastases. When metastases manifest as supraclavicular lymphadenopathy, FNAB reveals a malignancy in more than one-half of cases, with age older than 40 years being the major predictor of malignancy.13 The most common primary malignancy sites that produce cervical lymphadenopathy include the lungs, breasts, lymphomas, uterine cervix, gastroesophageal area, ovaries, and pancreas.13 The neck is a common area for lymphoma to present as a painless lymph node that may grow rapidly, and subsequently become painful. Early constitutional symptoms often precede development of diffuse lymphadenopathy and splenomegaly. In comparison to lymph nodes associated with metastatic disease characterized above, those associated with lymphoma are usually rubbery, soft, and mobile.11 Hodgkin lymphoma has a bimodal age distribution (15 to 34 years and older than 55 years)14 and rarely presents extranodally, whereas non-Hodgkin lymphoma is more common in older adults and is likely to present extranodally in the tonsillar ring located in the pharynx.1 Contrast-enhanced CT of the neck, chest, abdomen, and pelvis helps stage the lymphoma and provides possible biopsy sites.1 Rheumatologic diseases account for 3% of disorders presenting with enlarged salivary glands and 4% of those presenting with cervical lymphadenopathy.15 The rheumatic entities that most commonly cause salivary gland or cervical node enlargement include Sjögren syndrome and sarcoidosis.15 - video upload powered by https://www.TunesToTube.com

Signs of Head & Neck Cancer
It's been called the '15 minutes that could save your life'. Screening for head and neck cancer is a small time investment that may help doctors find a problem when it's most treatable. "We would love to screen lots more people," says Dr. Phillip Andrews. He is an otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat specialist) on medical staff at Lee Memorial Health System. "The earlier we catch any cancer greatly increases the chance of curing it." Head and neck cancers include any cancer above the collar bone, outside the brain. Dentists commonly screen the mouth and tongue, but doctors perform a thorough exam. "It's not invasive at all; we look at the skin of the face and the neck. We look in the nose, we look in the mouth, in the throat; we look at the voice box and feel on the neck," says Dr. Andrews. Unlike cancer screens that are linked to very specific tests, like a mammogram, a colonoscopy, the PSA or PAP test - oral cancer screenings look for signs and symptoms. Including ones that you should share with your doctor. "Any sore that doesn't heal in the mouth, on the skin, in the nose, it's something that does not heal - you've got to be concerned about it," says Dr. Andrews. "If you're hoarse more than three weeks you've got to have somebody look at it." New or unusual pains can also be a red flag. "Pain in the throat, difficulty swallowing that does not go away after two or three weeks. Pain in the ear that is unexplained could be coming from a throat cancer, because the nerve that supplies the two areas is the same." A lump in the neck should also be checked out. Head and neck cancers seem to sneak up on people, so if you suspect an oral cancer- speak up. CT scans - Lung cancer
My mom (age:64) Asian diagnosed with lung cancer. Summary: She is diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer with rib cage bone metastasis. X-ray, CT on Thorax and Adomen, MRI on spine, blood test, Sputum cytology taken. CT scan show diffused nodules on both lung with consolidation on the upper left lobe. MRI shows compression fracture on T9 and T12 and minor press on spinal code. Blood test shows elevation of CEA tumor marker, 50x of normal reading. Sputum cytology suspect of Adenocarcinomas. Treatments: She has RT therapy for 2 weeks to treat the back pain followed by a week rest before Iressa intake for 6 days. Before the Iressa, she is on oxygen support but she is able to put it off for hours. After the iressa, she relied on the oxygen support more heavily and still breathless. There is an acute onset of dyspnea or worsening of the breathlessness, with cough and fever. She is under antibiotic and cough mixture to control the lung infection. Diagnosis (details) before treatment: Radiograph of the chest - There are extensive patchy confluent parenchymal opacities in both lungs with a larger opacity in the left upper/mid lung (measuring 3 x 4 cm); these are likely of infectious etiology. An underlying mass in the left upper/mid lung cannot be excluded. There are no pleural effusions. The heart size is within normal limits.Mild degenerative changes of the spine are noted. Blood Test: Alphafetoprotein 13 ug/L (0-9 normal) CEA 252 ug/L (0-5 normal) CA125 15 U/mL (0-35 normal) CA19-9 12 U/mL (0-35 normal) Sputum cytology - Atypical cells suspicious of adenocarcinoma (3ml of bloodstained mucoid fluid was used, 4 slides examined show a moderate cell yield. Atypical cells showing enlarged nuclei with coarse chromatin and pleomorphic nucleoli are noted. The cytoplasm are vacuolated. Microorganism and inflammatory cells including neutrophils and lymphocytes are noted in the background) CT THORAX AND ABDOMEN IV contrast-enhanced multi-slice contiguous axial sections of the thorax and abdomen were obtained. Total 90 ml of intravenous Omnipaque 350 were administered as contrast medium. Comparison was made with previous study dated 05/02/07. Diffuse subcentimeter nodules are seen in both lungs with areas of coalescence. Collapse consolidation of the anterior segment of the left upper lobe with some heterogeneous enhancement near the hilum. There is no pleural effusion detected. The tracheobronchial tree is unremarkable. Enlarged right paratracheal, pertracheal, subcarinal and bilateral hilar lymph nodes are noted. A few right supraclavicular and left axillary lymph nodes are also seen. The mediastinal vessels, cardiac chambers show normal opacification. The visualized thoracic aorta is of normal caliber with no significant thrombus formation. The liver is enlarged and again shows multiple large cysts. Mild interval increase in size of the segment 6 cyst now measuring 10.3x8.3 cm. This is seen displacing the right kidney inferiorly. No suspicious focal lesion is seen. The hepatic and portal vessels show normal enhancement. The biliary tree is not dilated. Gallstones are seen. No evidence of cholecystitis. The visualized pancreas, spleen, kidneys, adrenals and opacified bowel loops are unremarkable. Multiple sclerotic foci are noted along the sternum, thoracolumbar and sacral spine compatible with mestastasis. Compression fracture of T9 vertebral bodies noted. Metastatic body lesions involving the left scapula, right 6th, left 4th, 9th and 10th ribs are noted. Comment: - Collapse of the anterior segment of the left upper lobe with some heterogeneous enhancement near the hilum. Underlying malignancy cannot be excluded. Bronchoscopic biopsy is suggested. - The pulmonary nodules in both lungs are suggestive of metastasis. - Mediastinal lumphadenopathy - Diffuse bony metastasis as described above. - Hepatic cysts, the one in segment 6 showing mild interval increase in size. - Gallstones.

Don't Ignore These Early Symptoms of Breast Cancer
Anyone can develop this breast cancer, and it is still not clear what causes it. However, certain factors put you at a higher risk. Women who get annual mammography screenings are much less likely to die from breast cancer than those who do not. Although it is more common among women, men can also get breast cancer. Here are some important warning signs of breast cancer. 01:02 Lump in the Breast or Armpit. 02:05 Red or Swollen Breasts. 03:09 Nipple Discharge. 04:07 Pain in the Breast or Chest Area. 05:06 Changes in Breast Appearance. 06:03 Nipples Become Sensitive. 07:02 Itching on the Breasts. 08:01 Pain in the Upper Back, Shoulder and Neck. Feeling a lump in your breast or armpit may be the first warning sign of breast cancer. Such lumps are often hard and painless, though some may be painful. A lump under the armpit may feel hard or thick and dense as compared with the armpit on the other side. Do not panic when you notice a lump, as it is not always cancerous. A few common causes of breast lumps are hormonal changes in the body, a breast infection and fat necrosis (damaged tissue). It is important to have your doctor check out any new or suspicious lumps on your breasts to determine the cause. When breasts hurt, most women think it is due to premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and when breasts feel hot or appear red, they usually suspect an infection. Swollen breasts with soreness or redness might even be a sign of breast cancer. A tumor located underneath a breast can push on tissues, making the breast swollen and sore. In some cases, the swelling is more prominent under the arm or under the collarbone. If you have this symptom for more than a week, be sure to see a doctor. Discharge from your nipple without any squeezing or touching of the breast may make any women wonder. Other than breast milk, any kind of nipple discharge can be a warning sign of breast cancer. When a tumor starts in the milk ducts just under or around the nipple, it may cause irritation and infection, leading to discharge. If you notice any nipple discharge, particularly clear or bloody, get it checked by your doctor. Such discharge can also be due to an infection or other condition that needs treatment. If you have an ache, sharp stab or pain in the breast or chest area, it is not a good sign. Sharp pain that comes and goes or a mild electric sensation that you may experience from one breast to another may be a sign of breast cancer. A tumor located directly behind the nipple or in one of the milk ducts often causes pain and discomfort in the breast. Though not necessarily a warning sign of cancer, pain in the breast or chest area can be due to other serious health issues that may need treatment. At times, breast pain can be due to hormonal changes in the body, birth control pills, poorly fitting bras and stress. Any change in the shape or size of your breasts is a matter of concern. You also need to keep a close eye on dimpling, shrinkage and recent asymmetry of the breasts. Deep tissue growth in the breasts may affect their shape or size, leading to physical changes. As these changes are more about appearance than feel, you might become aware of such changes while looking at yourself in a mirror. The Earth is Not Alone - Space Documentary HD
Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLlYCwYnM3k U.S. space agency NASA announced the discovery of more than 200 new planets on Monday, 10 of which are believed to be about the right size and temperature to support life. Of the 219 new suspected planets to have been discovered by NASA's Kepler telescope, 10 were found to exist in the so-called 'Goldilocks zone' of their solar system. This refers to the distance between the planet and their star, which is neither too hot nor too cold to support complex life. The presence of liquid water on these "rocky" Earth-like planets is seen as a key ingredient required for the existence of life. "Are we alone? Maybe Kepler today has told us indirectly, although we need confirmation, that we are probably not alone," Mario Perez, Kepler program scientist, said at a news conference. NASA launched the Kepler telescope in 2009 in a bid to discover whether other Earth-like planets are common or rare. The latest identification of suspected exoplanets – planets outside our own solar system – brings the tally discovered by the Kepler telescope to 4,034. The number of worlds thought to be approximately the same size and temperature as Earth is around 50.

Doctor Claudia Henschke talking to patient LEAD IN : A new study offers the strongest evidence yet that screening smokers for lung cancer with computerised chest scans can save lives, much as mammograms do for women with breast cancer. STORYLINE: The new study suggests that those at risk of lung cancer can greatly increase their chance of catching the cancer early if they undergo a CT scan. The scan which takes about 20 seconds and produces around 600 pictures of the lung area allows doctors to better identify small abnormalities in the lung. CT scans are sophisticated X-rays which produce images of the lungs from many angles and can reveal pea-size growths long before they produce symptoms. Interest in the scans rose in 1999, when Dr. Claudia Henschke of New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Centre published a landmark study showing that they found far more tumours than conventional X-rays did. Her new study, reported recently in New England Journal of Medicine, extends these results to a larger group of people and reports on survival. My Unknown Diagnosis
This is my video of my unknown diagnosis. I have been to way too many doctors in the past years, still leaving with unanswered questions. It started almost three years ago, towards the right side above my lip. Then over time, it continued to move to different areas on my face, spreading at a rapid rate. Its like it is moving under my skin. Whenever I notice that it is spreading before it opens up, under my skin the area becomes dark and looks very inflamed. The tissue becomes as if it is dead. Sometimes it bleeds bloody puss because it appears like an ulcer with a whiteish cottage cheese discharge that comes out of it. The pain on my face is excruciating , and almost unbearable. I was treated with almost every type of antibiotic, I have done every test (ex. cancer, aids, etc) and everything came back negative . I have done multiple biopsy's and one of the doctors stated that when he tested the tissue that comes out of my face he noticed that it was only found in people who have been burned. Another doctor thought it was "sarcardosis" but the test came back negative. The only medication it responds to is "sod sulfacetamide/ sulfacet-r lotion". Sometimes my face will heal on the skin, but under the skin it is still hard and painful. I really hope that if anyone out there sees my video and might know or have any idea what it is or how to treat it. I have had this for too long and has taken a huge toll on my life. Please contact me immediately at: patj18326@gmail.com or simply leave me a comment Thank You

Lung cancer, also known as carcinoma of the lung or pulmonary carcinoma, is a malignant lung tumor characterized by uncontrolled cell growth in tissues of the lung. If left untreated, this growth can spread beyond the lung by process of metastasis into nearby tissue or other parts of the body. The vast majority (80–90%) of cases of lung cancer are due to long-term exposure to tobacco smoke. About 10–15% of cases occur in people who have never smoked. These cases are often caused by a combination of genetic factors and exposure to radon gas, asbestos, or other forms of air pollution, including second-hand smoke. Worldwide, lung cancer is the most common cancer among men in terms of both incidence and mortality, and among women has the third highest incidence, and is second after breast cancer in mortality. Learn the signs of lung cancer to catch the disease early and ensure a positive outcome. Below are some early signs of lung cancer according to healthline.com. No Warning Lung cancer may not produce any noticeable symptoms in the early stages. In approximately 40 percent of people diagnosed with lung cancer, the diagnosis is made after the disease has advanced. In one third of those diagnosed, the cancer has reached stage 3. Cough That Won’t Quit Be on alert for a new cough that lingers. While a cough associated with a cold or respiratory infection will go away in a week or two, a persistent cough that lingers can be a possible sign of lung cancer. Don’t be tempted to dismiss a stubborn cough, whether it is dry or mucus-producing, as “just a cough.” Change in a Cough Pay attention to any changes in a chronic cough, particularly if you are a smoker. If you are coughing more often, your cough has a deeper or hoarse sound, or you are coughing up blood or more mucus than usual, it’s time to make a doctor’s appointment. Breathing Changes Shortness of breath or becoming easily winded are also possible symptoms of lung cancer. This symptom can occur if lung cancer blocks or narrows an airway, or if fluid from a lung tumor builds up in the chest. Make a point of noticing when you feel winded or short of breath. If this symptom occurs after climbing the stairs to your house, bringing in groceries, or performing another task you could previously do without finding it hard to breathe, don’t ignore it. Pain in the Chest Area Lung cancer may produce pain in the chest, shoulder, or back area. This aching feeling may not be associated with coughing. Tell your doctor if you notice any type of chest pain, whether it is sharp, dull, constant, or comes and goes. You should also note whether it is confined to a specific area or is occurring throughout your chest. When lung cancer causes chest pain, the discomfort may result from enlarged lymph nodes or metastasis to the chest wall, pleura (lining around the lungs), or the ribs. Wheezing When airways become constricted, blocked, or inflamed, the lungs produce a wheezing or whistling sound when you breathe. Wheezing can be associated with multiple causes, some of which are benign and easily treatable. However, wheezing is also a lung cancer symptom, which is why it merits your doctor’s attention. If wheezing continues, don’t assume it’s asthma or allergies. Have your doctor confirm what’s causing it. Raspy, Hoarse Voice If you hear a significant change in your voice, or if someone else points out that your voice sounds deeper, hoarse, or raspier, get checked out by your doctor. Hoarseness can be caused by a simple cold, but this symptom becomes worrisome when it hangs on for more than two weeks. Hoarseness related to lung cancer can occur when the tumor affects the nerve that controls the larynx, or voice box. Drop in Weight An unexplained weight loss of 10 pounds or more may be associated with lung cancer or another type of cancer. When cancer is present, this weight drop may result from cancer cells using energy in the body. It could also result from shifts in the way the body uses food energy. Don’t write off a change in your weight if you haven’t been trying to shed pounds—it may be a clue to a change in your health. Bone Pain Lung cancer that has spread to the bones may produce pain in the back or in other areas of the body. This pain may worsen at night while resting on the back. Additionally, lung cancer is sometimes associated with shoulder, arm, or neck pain, although this is less common. Be attentive to your aches and pains, and discuss them with your doctor. Headache Headaches may be a sign that lung cancer has spread to the brain. However, not all headaches in people with lung cancer are associated with brain metastases. Sometimes, a lung tumor may create pressure on the superior vena cava, which is the large vein that moves blood from the upper body to the heart. This pressure can also trigger headaches. Talk with your doctor if your body shows these symptoms.
