Is religion no better than Prozac? | Ajahn Brahm | 06-06-2014
Is religion just about the feel-good factor, helping us to feel better about business (suffering) as usual? Prozac: The Military's Secret Weapon
U.S. combat troops are taking daily doses of antidepressants to calm nerves strained by repeated and lengthy tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. The medicines are intended not only to help troops keep their cool but also to enable the already strapped Army to preserve its most precious resource: soldiers on the front lines. Data contained in the Army's fifth Mental Health Advisory Team report indicate that, according to an anonymous survey of U.S. troops taken last fall, about 12% of combat troops in Iraq and 17% of those in Afghanistan are taking prescription antidepressants or sleeping pills to help them cope. Escalating violence in Afghanistan and the more isolated mission have driven troops to rely more on medication there than in Iraq, military officials say. At a Pentagon that keeps statistics on just about everything, there is no central clearinghouse for this kind of data, and the Army hasn't consistently asked about prescription-drug use, which makes it difficult to track. Given the traditional stigma associated with soldiers seeking mental help, the survey, released in March, probably underestimates antidepressant use. But if the Army numbers reflect those of other services — the Army has by far the most troops deployed to the war zones — about 20,000 troops in Afghanistan and Iraq were on such medications last fall. The Army estimates that authorized drug use splits roughly fifty-fifty between troops taking antidepressants — largely the class of drugs that includes Prozac and Zoloft — and those taking prescription sleeping pills like Ambien. In some ways, the prescriptions may seem unremarkable. Generals, history shows, have plied their troops with medicinal palliatives at least since George Washington ordered rum rations at Valley Forge. During World War II, the Nazis fueled their blitzkrieg into France and Poland with the help of an amphetamine known as Pervitin. The U.S. Army also used amphetamines during the Vietnam War. The increase in the use of medication among U.S. troops suggests the heavy mental and psychological price being paid by soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. Pentagon surveys show that while all soldiers deployed to a war zone will feel stressed, 70% will manage to bounce back to normalcy. But about 20% will suffer from what the military calls "temporary stress injuries," and 10% will be afflicted with "stress illnesses." Such ailments, according to briefings commanders get before deploying, begin with mild anxiety and irritability, difficulty sleeping, and growing feelings of apathy and pessimism. As the condition worsens, the feelings last longer and can come to include panic, rage, uncontrolled shaking and temporary paralysis. The symptoms often continue back home, playing a key role in broken marriages, suicides and psychiatric breakdowns. The mental trauma has become so common that the Pentagon may expand the list of "qualifying wounds" for a Purple Heart — historically limited to those physically injured on the battlefield — to include posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Defense Secretary Robert Gates said on May 2 that it's "clearly something" that needs to be considered, and the Pentagon is weighing the change. Which means that any drug that keeps a soldier deployed and fighting also saves money on training and deploying replacements. But there is a downside: the number of soldiers requiring long-term mental-health services soars with repeated deployments and lengthy combat tours. If troops do not get sufficient time away from combat — both while in theater and during the "dwell time" at home before they go back to war — it's possible that antidepressants and sleeping aids will be used to stretch an already taut force even tighter. "This is what happens when you try to fight a long war with an army that wasn't designed for a long war," says Lawrence Korb, Pentagon personnel chief during the Reagan Administration. http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1811858,00.html

There are certain drug combinations you should be cautious of; here are the most common. Aspirin should not be combined with blood thinners because, although it relieves pain, it also thins the blood, so the combination can lead to internal bleeding. Aspirin can also decrease the effectiveness of gout medications and increase the strength of some diabetes medications. When taking certain antibiotics you should know that antacids and other products containing calcium may decrease the effectiveness of your antibiotic. Also, some antibiotics can greatly decrease the effectiveness of birth control and blood thinners. If you're on antidepressants, don't mix newer antidepressants such as fluoxetine and paroxetine with older mood-lifters such as phenelzine, because it can increase blood pressure. Don't combine antidepressants with St. John's wort or migraine drugs because it can cause confusion, fever, high blood pressure, and tremors. Certain asthma medications, such as bronchodilators, should not be combined with antidepressant drugs or beta blockers, due to a risk of increased blood pressure and a loss of drug effectiveness. The effectiveness of diabetes medications such as glipizide and glyburide can be blocked by several drugs, including corticosteroids, hormones, diuretics, and antipsychotics. Other drugs that increase the effects of glipizide and glyburide, including blood thinners are: insulin, MAOIs, aspirin, and gout medicine. For heart medications, the common heart drug digoxin can lose effectiveness if combined with antacids. Their effects can be amplified by other drugs, including diazepam and antiarrhythmics. Nitrate heart drugs can trigger low blood pressure if taken with the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra, generally known as sildenafil. Also, the combination of the blood pressure medications, atenolol and reserpine can cause a slow heartbeat and lower than normal blood pressure. Please make sure your doctor and pharmacist are aware of all the medications you are taking, both prescription and over-the-counter. If you have any questions about the potential harmful drug combinations I spoke about, talk to your CVS pharmacist. We're here to help. Source: CVS Caremark Health Resources

CBD Oil Side Effects Warning (Do Not Buy CBD Until You See This)
3 simple tips to follow before buying: 1. Always check the CBD purity, it should be 50% and more. 2. Choose products made in the US or Canada. Due to strict regulations this is your quality guarantee. 3. Do not expect to purchase quality and safe to use CBD oil for pennies. High quality CBD oil should cost at least $45-$50. Choose another product if that amount puts you into an uncomfortable situation financially. Brands that I trust and recommend: 1. Verified CBD Oil (http://verifiedcbdoil.com). This is probably the oldest brand of CBD I know. Tons of success stories and quality I have tested myself - these are the reasons I have been recommending this brand to my friends and family for years. The only downside is that due to their recent TV "fame" they are often out of stock and can be hard to get. Official website: http://verifiedcbdoil.com Benefits and Side Effects of CBD Oil Cannabidiol, or CBD as it is commonly known, is a very interesting chemical. And it is responsible for many people changing their views on marijuana use for medicinal purposes. While everyone has heard of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), not many are aware of CBD. The two chemicals are both contained in marijuana, but they serve very different purposes. While the THC in marijuana is will get you high, CBD is a chemical with many benefits from a medicinal point of view - and it does not have the same side effects on the body as THC. What are the Health Benefits of CBD Oil? The ingredient CBD has been used for many years to make several products. One of these products is CBD oil. According to many studies which have carried out on this product, there are many different health benefits associated with it. First and foremost, it can help people who are experiencing excessive nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy or some other type of medical treatment. It is also great at reducing the seizures some people get on a regular basis. Another benefit of CBD oil is how it helps combat inflammation and neuro-degenerative disorders. It is also great for anxiety and depression sufferers. So if you are suffering from one of these conditions, you may want to talk to your physician about the possibility of getting on CBD oil for a few months. CBD oil also contain various o nutrients like carbohydrates, amino acids, vitamins such as vitamin B1, B2, B6, D and E, trace minerals such as calcium, iron zinc, magnesium potassium, and several other compounds required by the human body for healthy functioning, such as chlorophyll, carotene, ketones, glycosides, nitrogen-based compounds, etc.. Unlike THC, CBD oil doesn't make you high. The CBD in these this product will not make you feel the same as the THC does. This is because THC is a psychoactive chemical whereas CBD is not. It does not act in the same manner when it comes into contact with your brain's pathways. It does not interfere with your psychological or psychomotor functions either. For those who want a simpler explanation: CBD oil is 100% safe and won't get you high! Are there Any Side Effects of CBD Oil? Whereas CBD oil has been proven safe for human consumption, some researches done on it have identified a possibility of side effects in patients taking the oil. One study which was published in 1886 in the International Journal of Neuroscience showed that CBD oil could cause some mild side effects in patients with dystonia. These side effects include dry mouth, hypotension, sedation, psychomotor slowing, and lightheadedness. However, there are no side effects which have been reported when CBD is taken in high doses. As you can see, you should not worry when taking CBD oil as its side effects are very mild. Buy CBD oil today and experience the many benefits associated with it. How Should Antidepressants Be Discontinued?
http://www.rxwiki.com/articles/news_s... Ask a pharmacist your questions now! http://www.rxwiki.com/askrx/questions Antidepressants are used to treat depression. It is very important not to suddenly stop taking an antidepressant in order to prevent discontinuation syndrome. Antidepressant discontinuation syndrome includes various symptoms such as anxiety, feelings of sadness, headaches, dizziness, and nausea and vomiting. These symptoms may occur if an antidepressant is stopped suddenly. These symptoms can occur if you have been taking an antidepressant such as paroxetine or sertraline for longer than 6 weeks and suddenly stop taking your medication. I do want to mention that antidepressants can take several weeks to become effective. Therefore, it is important not to stop taking your medication if you do not initially see a response. If you want to stop treatment and your doctor has agreed, then your doctor will gradually lower your dose until your medication is stopped. Your doctor will work with you to develop a plan to lower your dose over about two to four weeks. Generally, the antidepressant dose will be reuced by about 25% per week until the medication is stopped. It is important to let your doctor know if you are experiencing any feelings of sadness or your depression begins to worsen while your medication dose is reduced. As with any medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist any questions you may have.

How to Treat Depression Naturally (With and Without Drugs)
More details: http://www.dietvsdisease.org/how-to-deal-with-major-depression/ Depression is traditionally treated with medication, but new evidence suggests certain foods and nutrients may be highly influential too. This could be revolutionary considering less than half of those affected receive formal medical treatment. In this video I'm looking at what foods and nutrients are scientifically shown to help. How to Treat Depression Naturally (With and Without Drugs) First and most importantly, I want to make this super clear, although pharmaceutical antidepressants and other medications are not perfect, they are usually a fundamental part of treating severe depression. You should certainly not stop taking your medications without first speaking with your doctor. They are really important. In fact, most of the supplements I'm about to mention appear to improve the effectiveness of antidepressants, so medication and natural remedies seem to work synergistcally. ST. JOHN'S WORT STUDY: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18843608 St. John’s Wort is a medicinal herb with powerful anti-inflammatory and antidepressant properties. A major Cochrane review including 5,489 patients with major depression concluded that St. John’s Wort extract: Is superior to placebo in patients with major depression Is similarly effective as standard antidepressants (SSRIs and TCAs) Has fewer side effects than standard antidepressants, although there are some non-responders. The caveat is that St. John’s Wort should not be taken alongside antidepressants. This is because it’s known to interact with many medications, particularly those for serotonin signalling in the brain. Therefore it’s more of a potential alternative to antidepressants, perhaps when they are not suitable, rather than a complementary treatment. ZINC Zinc is an essential mineral that appears to interact with neurons in the brain. Those with depression tend to have lower zinc levels than normal. Studies show that zinc supplementation alongside antidepressants can help reduce depressive symptoms in as little as 12 weeks. In fact, zinc therapy on its own may even improve symptoms. Supplements are most useful in this circumstance, but it’s also recommended to eat a variety of zinc-rich foods including oysters and shellfish, meat, legumes, nuts and seeds. FISH OIL Fish oil, particularly supplements, are rich in healthy omega-3 fats, specifically DHA and EPA. STUDIES: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26978738, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21939614, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18247193 Large review studies consistently find that fish oil, especially EPA, is useful in treating severe depression. It seems to improve the effectiveness of antidepressants by up to 30%. The evidence is less conclusive among cases of minor depression though. SAFFRON Now this was a surprising find when I was researching this topic. There have been several well-designed studies using saffron extract to help treat depression or minimise the side effects of antidepressants. In fact, two studies of depression patients found that both saffron extract and saffron petal extract performed equally to an SSRI (fluoxetine) in reducing depressive symptoms. [The evidence right now is not as solid as it is for the other supplements, so I wouldn't get carried away just yet. Plus saffron is the world’s most expensive spice so yeah, there's that.] Lastly I want to say that you don’t have to deal with depression alone. Speaking out about it will typically actually be a tremendous help. Whether that is talking with a professional, or with your friends or family. For much more information on dietary treatment of depression, including the recommended dosage of the supplements I've mentioned in this video, click the link in the youtube card or follow the link in the video's description.

5 Turmeric Benefits For Skin, Inflammation, Pain, and Depression
Today we're going to discuss turmeric - and the curcumin in turmeric. There are over 10,000 peer reviewed articles that have been published discussing the turmeric benefits. It's one of the best natural healing compounds, and acts similarly to cannabis in the body. It's the root of the curcuma long plant. The active substance in turmeric is curcumin. Let's look at some of these turmeric benefits: Turmeric vs NSAID and OTC pain medications Turmeric benefits for pain management is outstanding. Turmeric when it went head to head with these medications, won. Turmeric Benefits: 1. Turmeric and Platelet Aggregation: Blood clots. Turmeric has been shown to reduce the platelet aggregation and the risk of blood clots in people. This has to do with the anti-inflammatory nature of turmeric. Blood clotting is one big symptom of chronic inflammation. 2. Turmeric can help with depression Scientists think this has to do with the interaction with BDNF in the brain. There was a study that looked at 60 humans with major depressive disorder. The biggest drug for major depression is called prozac. They put prozac head to head against curcumin. They found that all of the patients tolerated curcumin well, and it was considered equal in effectiveness to prozac. 3. Turmeric Benefits for Inflammation: This is probably one of the absolute best curcumin benefits. The inflammation fighting is incredible. 4. Turmeric benefits for skin: There was a study that had 814 participants that used a turmeric powder paste that cured 97% of scabies on the skin. 5. Turmeric for arthritis. Zoloft vs. Paxil: Desperate for Relief of Paxil Withdrawal
Again, I do NOT recommend anyone to do what I had done. It is not common that what I had done resulted in negative consequences but it carries possibility and do not take such a risk. Despite my stupidity and personal disgust over SSRI's and the lack of discontinuation "syndrome" acknowledgment and support by the very people that prescribe them, it is still best that you do seek counsel. Just advocate for you and your situation. I cannot stress this enough. Do not take risks when it comes to your life. What I had done, despite the fact I currently feel swell carries way too much of a risk for me to ethically recommend to anyone. The decision described in this vlog was due to the emotional, physical and mental strain of the withdrawal. Secondly, I truly recognized that I am needed by others, which only further shows how irresponsible this act of desperation was. SEEK MEDICAL AND/OR PSYCHIATRIC ATTENTION IF YOU HAVE SUICIDAL THOUGHTS, HOMICIDAL THOUGHTS, OR ANY SORT OF EXPERIENCES THAT MAKE YOU SUSPICIOUS THAT YOU HAVE EVEN THE SMALLEST CHANCE OF CAUSING HARM TO YOURSELF OR TO ANOTHER. PLEASE & THANK YOU. For those tapering and currently hurting from withdrawals from these SSRI's ... my heart goes out to you.

This Is Why You Should Eat Cashews More Often!
OUR WEBSITE : http://justhealthrelated.com/ This Is Why You Should Eat Cashews More Often! You probably already know this by now but nuts in general are very healthy for us. Some like walnuts and brazil nuts provide more specific benefits. All nuts and seeds contain beneficial fats, B vitamins and magnesium for a healthy mood, but cashews are one of the few connected to lowering not only anxiety, however also protecting us from stress as well as mild depression. That being stated, did you know that 6.7% of Americans over the age of 18 will be affected by a major depressive disorder this year. This is around 14.8 million people and most of them will resort to prescription medication like Prozac. Minor side effects to Prozac include: Cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, aching throat Drowsiness, dizziness, feeling nervous Mild queasiness, upset stomach, constipation Increased cravings, weight changes Sleep problems (insomnia) Reduced libido, impotence, or problem having an orgasm Dry mouth More major side effects consist of: Extremely stiff muscles, high fever, sweating, fast or uneven heartbeats, tremors, overactive reflexes Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, feeling unstable, loss of coordination Headache, problem concentrating, memory issues, weakness, confusion, hallucinations, fainting, seizure, shallow breathing or breathing that stops Severe skin reaction– fever, aching throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain, followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads out (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling. All The Right Nutrients Luckily, nature has you covered. Cashews contains iron, magnesium, Vitamin B6, protein as well as omega-3 fats, which are all nutrients that help combat depression and anxiety naturally Dr. Andrew Saul, featured in the popular film Food Matters, even states that cashews are such a win for depression and stress that they provide the same mood-boosting effects as Prozac! Though we can’t make any guarantees, taking in ¼ cup daily is a fantastic way to try it out on your own due to the nutrition powers this modest nut has. Why Cashews Work Trytophan (amino acid): Cashews rank one of the best plant-based sources of this amino acid (trytophan). This amino acid plays a vital part in the absorption and production of serotonin. A depletion of serotonin can make us feel anxious, stressed, and simply sad. Trytophan is discovered in many plant-based foods, however is incredibly dense in cashews with 1000-2000 milligrams per ¼ cup serving. Magnesium (mineral): Magnesium is vital to a healthy state of mind and nerve system, helping treat depression and anxiety as a result. Cashews contain around 83 miligrams per serving. Niacin: One of niacin’s unique properties is its ability to help you naturally relax and get to sleep more rapidly in the evening. Listen to this story about a woman who was dosed with niacin to fight her anxiety. Niacin is found in cashews. Vitamin B6: This vitamin helps in reducing depression and improve general brain health by helping magnesium reach cells more effectively. This is terrific news for those of us who wish for a more natural way to treat anxiety or for those who react terribly to Prozac. Also, cashews are tasty and can be used to make many different recipes. Other health benefits of cashews include improved heart, bone, and oral health, improved nerve and muscle function. Nervous Breakdown Symptoms -- 10 Early Signs that Someone Needs a Break!
http://utahtexans.com/ Click on the link above for a free video guide to dietary supplements. Today I'm going to go over the main nervous breakdown symptoms, and a few tips to not get it. Under immense pressure and stress some people just come apart at the seams, and are unable to function normally. This breakdown could last a few seconds to days. The interesting thing is that a nervous breakdown isn't a scientific term, but created from society. The reason being is that almost everyone has experienced this breakdown at some time in their life. This is one of the major risks when taking on too much responsibility or pressure, and commonly seen with great people and celebrities. Remember Britney Spears and how she shaved off her head and checked into a mental hospital. During World War 1 Germany gambled there entire future on a flanking move that would knock the French out out of the war, so they could deal with Russia. When their huge massive flanking move was lost at the battle of the Morne the supreme German General Moltke suffered a big nervous breakdown. Unlike a disease like measles or the flu virus, a nervous breakdown can have a wide range of symptoms. A few of the major ones closely resemble depression. This includes not being interested in activities that were once enjoyed, changes in sleep or eating patterns, thoughts of suicide, and rapid mood swings. Other common indicators would be similar to a panic attack. A few examples of this would be difficulty breathing, rapid heart beat, sweating and lots of anxiety. One of the warning signs that nearly everyone that experiences a nervous breakdown has would be social withdrawal. Social problems is for the most part the reason for the breakdown. This means isolating themselves from others, including friends and family. The big problem with this is that close friends and family is what a person usually needs in times of crisis. Of course this all depends on the friends and family right? In the most extreme cases nervous breakdowns could even manifest hallucinations, flashbacks and extreme paranoia. Another famous nervous breakdown would be the billionaire Howard Hughes who locked himself into a dark screening room for four months. He was famous for using tissues to pick up objects and noticing dust or stains on people's clothes demanding they take care of them. He was insanely paranoid of germs. Nervous breakdowns, panic attacks, depression all can be helped with a little bit of rest, relaxation ,medication, yoga and some Kenny G music. There is also some things like Valium, Prozac and therapy. Apart from expensive drugs herbal remedies can be just as effective. To further help you I have created a video based guide on using herbal remedies and supplements. This guide can help you identify good products over poor ones, as well as show you a few alternative therapies that will blow you away. Plus it's completely free and to learn more simply click on the link http://texasvitamins.com/go/youtube.html

The Effects of Antidepressants and Anxiety Drugs: Experts Panel
Are you getting enough information on the treatment of depression and anxiety? What are the results of pharmaceutical treatment of these disorders and how safe are these drugs? Experts Panel with Gabriel Cousens, M.D., Irving Kirsch, Ph.D., Robert Whitaker, Gwen Olsen Connect with The Real Truth About Health http://www.therealtruthabouthealth.com/ https://www.facebook.com/The-Real-Truth-About-Health-467500836655781/ https://twitter.com/RTAHealth Robert Whitaker - investigates how the influence of pharmaceutical money and guild interests has corrupted the behavior of the American Psychiatric Association and academic psychiatry during the past 35 years. He documents how the psychiatric establishment regularly misled the American public about what was known about the biology of mental disorders, the validity of psychiatric diagnoses, and the safety and efficacy of its drugs. He also looks at how these two corrupting influences encouraged the expansion of diagnostic boundaries and the creation of biased clinical practice guidelines. This corruption has led to significant social injury, and in particular, a societal lack of informed consent regarding the use of psychiatric drugs, and the pathologizing of normal behaviors in children and adults. Robert Whitaker argues that reforming psychiatry will require the neutralization of these two corrupting influences—pharmaceutical money and guild interests—and the establishment of multidisciplinary authority over the field of mental health. Gabriel Cousens - Not all depressions are alike. And despite the attention given to Prozac and other drugs, there quite literally is no magic pill. Someone who suffers from depression needs a customized, individual program, one that attacks the personal, biochemical roots of the problem. Dr. Cousens shows how to heal depression safely by synergistically rebalancing what he calls "the natural drugs of the brain," using a five-step program of mood-boosting substances, vitamin and mineral supplements, and a mood-enhancing diet and lifestyle. Grounded in cutting-edge science, yet accessible and safe, he shows how to regain your optimism and energy through balancing your own biochemistry. Irving Kirsch - Irving Kirsch has the world doubting the efficacy of antidepressants. Based on fifteen years of research he makes an overwhelming case that what the medical community considered a cornerstone of psychiatric treatment is little more than a faulty consensus. But Kirsch does more than just criticize: He offers a path society can follow to stop popping pills and start proper treatment. Gwen Olsen - The United States health care system is killing Americans at an alarming rate, even though we spend over fifteen percent of the Gross National Product (GNP) on health care. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, our health care outcomes ranked only fifteenth among twenty-five industrialized nations worldwide. Adverse effects from prescription drugs have become the third-leading killer of Americans. Only heart disease and cancer claim more lives. We trust our doctors to inform us and our government to protect us from medical malfeasance that may put profits ahead of consumer health and safety. But the fine line walked by the FDA between the interests of the pharmaceutical manufacturers and the American public has continually been crossed. The result is the unleashing of an unprecedented number of lethal drugs on the U.S. market! Passionate believers in whole food plant based diets, no chemicals, minimal pharmaceutical drugs, no GMO's. Fighting to stop climate change and extinction.

You CAN End Anxiety Chest Pain For Good
Find The Effective Treatment For Your Anxiety Disorder http://www.PanicAwayProgram.org Although anxiety is accepted as being a normal and healthy emotion, some people suffer from intense anxiety, which ends up affecting their lives and causing them to keep away from certain situations that they used to be able to deal without difficulty. If you are suffering from anxiety then you should begin on finding an appropriate and effective method of treatment. http://www.PanicAwayProgram.org The first thing you need to do is determining the type of anxiety disorder you suffer from. There are five main types of anxiety disorders: generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and social anxiety disorder. Effective treatments for each anxiety disorder are accessible, and new and enhanced treatments are always becoming available. Non-medication treatments Once you have found out the type of anxiety that you are suffering from you will be able to find the suitable anxiety disorder treatment. Mild anxiety disorders can often be treated relatively simple with relaxation and breathing techniques. Yoga, for instance, is a great type of exercise that can really help with anxiety and related health conditions. This is definitely something that should be tried prior to more serious forms of anxiety disorder treatment. If your anxiety is more severe or constant, then therapy or counseling may become the best option. Cognitive behavioral therapy for one has been confirmed to be very effective in the treatment of all types of anxiety disorder. In this therapy you work one on one with an experienced and qualified mental health professional, who will assist you to deal with your fears in a safe and controlled environment. Over time you will be able to find out the root of your anxiety and from there work towards developing a treatment plan that will lead you to your normal life. You can also select an anxiety disorder treatment plan that involves natural and herbal treatments. Herbal remedies such as valerian root and kava kava have over and over again proven to be effective at treating anxiety disorders and depression. You do need to keep in mind that just because these herbal remedies are natural it does not indicate that you do not still have to be careful. If taken inappropriately, these remedies can actually worsen your anxiety. Hypnotherapy, biofeedback, and acupuncture are other options for anxiety disorder treatment. In order to determine which one is going to work best for you, you need to talk to your doctor. You may need to try a few different methods before you find the one that works best for you and your particular anxiety condition. Medications for anxiety disorder Generally, most treatments for anxiety disorders include at least one prescription medication. If you start taking medication as a treatment for anxiety disorder, it is important to understand that this should not be a long-term solution and you should keep working with a certified mental health professional in order to determine the root cause of your anxiety. There are several common medications for anxiety disorder and one of them is selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Serotonin is known as the brain's all-natural happy drug. Scientists believe that a lack of serotonin is the source of depression, anxiety, and panic attacks and therefore the purpose of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors is to increase the levels of serotonin in the brain. Some familiar brands that use selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors are Prozac and Zoloft. Benzodiazepines are another choice of medication, which act like minor tranquilizers. They decelerate the body's nervous system, giving it an all-over calm. These types of medications can be addictive, so they should only be taken as prescribed. Some well-known brand names are Xanax and Valium. Another medication that is used to treat anxiety disorder is antidepressants, which affect the neurotransmitters in the brain. Effexor is a good example of this type of anxiety disorder medication. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) are very strong antidepressant drugs that should only be taken as a last resort after all other treatments have been tried. These drugs can be lethal when combined with certain other drugs and foods. One thing that need to be noted, anyone who takes antidepressants may become more susceptible to suicide, especially when they first begin to take them or when the dosage is changed.

Cigarettes & Depression
Just a quick chat about cigarettes and how I feel they play a significant role in stunting my progress in battling depression. It seems obvious that cigarettes would be detrimental to your mental health in some way or another but reading up on it and seeing the impacts it has on your mental health in more clinical terms is definitely an eye opener. ---------- Sounding like the title of a Tom Waits song, romanticized by its performance in a dark New York Jazz Club, but there’s nothing romantic about the matrimony of cigarettes and your brain. For a while now I’ve been cognisant of the fact there’s more than likely a direct if not a passive or tenuous relationship between my smoking habit and my low moods. While I’m aware that smoking isn’t the route cause of my depression, I wanted to do some research and understand further what sort of role my dirty habit is playing. I didn’t have to look too far on Google to solidify a lot of my suspicions. Studies show that there are a number of dances the brain and cigarettes do, all unsurprisingly to the complete detriment of your mental health. People who are already depressed are more likely to smoke, further increasing symptoms while looking for a way to alleviate stress. People who smoke are more likely to become depressed as nicotine damages the pathways in your brain that help regulate your moods. Smoking causes depression, depression causes smoking. It’s a vicious self-perpetuating cycle that’s hard to break. It’s something that I have certainly not yet surmounted. I smoked on and off when I was younger. I eventually quit. Until my lowest point of depression that resulted in a bad break up left me clutching stereotypically at, well straws.... death straws. I’ve been averaging a packet of 20 a day ever since. Sometimes two packets a day depending on just how worthless I’m feeling. It’s a quiet form of self-harm and the kind of disregard for your health and wellbeing that too often goes hand in hand with depression. For all I know I could be in a much greater place right now if all those years ago I didn’t turn to cigarettes as a crutch. And now I feel myself stuck in a cycle where I don’t feel equipped mentally to take on the task of kicking a now deep-rooted habit. The takeaway from this isn’t do as I do, or even do as I say. I’m not leading by any example, as I’m completely subservient to a lot of damaging vices. I just want to make you aware. Give you something to think about and more importantly hopefully deter you from falling into the vicious cycle I’ve fallen into if you’re currently on the precipice of reaching for a pack to alleviate stress. It doesn’t alleviate stress. It causes more stress by creating a dependency on something and giving you the impression of being de-stressed when you spark up and feed that addiction. You’re not alleviating stress. You are feeding an addiction that’s helping to keep you where you don’t want to be. What am I going to do personally about this? Well , in pursuit of a healthier state of mind I’ve got a lot to do and smoking is by no means the only thing. However I feel like taking some sort of control of my habit is a good way to start. Setting myself up for failure by saying I’m going to quit tomorrow isn’t going to be an effective route for me. I don’t operate like that. However aiming to smoke 5 less cigarettes a day for a few weeks is something I can probably handle. Baby steps is the way to go for me and eventually If I can get down to a couple of cigarettes a day I’ll be able to feel proud that I’ve achieved something and fingers crossed, finally quit smoking. I’ll keep you guys updated but in the meantime feel free to let us know in the comments if there’s anything you know you could be doing better to facilitate a clearer and cleaner path to a healthier mental state. https://www.everydayhealth.com/depression/smoking-and-depression.aspx https://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/smoking/Pages/stopping-smoking-benefits-mental-health.aspx https://psychcentral.com/lib/can-smoking-cause-depression/

How to Sue Drug Companies for Free
Defective drug legislation is big right now. Pharma is rapidly becoming the next big tobacco but on a much grander scale. Class action lawsuits with 10,000s of victims are lashing out against drug firms while even State governments level more lawsuits against them. Law firms are suing pharmaceutical companies for unethical marketing practices, a failure to warn the public about potentially harmful and sometimes deadly side effects when they were known about prior to marketing, downplaying side effects while hyping up benefits, etc. If you have been damaged by a medication you can potentially sue and in most cases lawyers will take your case for free. Some drugs that are listed on law office websites as defective drugs include; Vioxx, Bextra, Celebrex, Crestor, Baycol, Viagra, Cialis, Risperdal, Seroguel, Zyprexa, Adderall, Ritalin, Neurotin, Paxil, Prozac, Ambien, Zoloft. Some defective drugs have been associated with death, suicide, homicide, neurological damage, heart attacks, diabetes, excessive weight gain, sexual dysfunction, impertinency, vision loss and a host of other side effects. Virtually every psychotropic (psychiatric) drug is listed on some defective drug website including antidepressants, antipsychotic, anti-anxiety medications (anxiolytics), etc. Drug companies that are being sued include Eli Lilly, Pfizer, Johnson and Johnson, Janssen, Abbott, Novartis, Wyeth, etc. You can get a free legal consultations just by doing a search with the drug name and the world lawyer.

The oil of St. John’s wort helps to stop pain and cure minor burns. Simply, apply this oil to the burn right after getting a burn. Get a clean bowl or basin and then soak the burned area. You may also use a muslin cloth soaked in St. John’s wort oil to keep the burned area for 1 hour. Apply it a few times on the first day with a burn. 2. Mix equal parts of St. John’s wort flowers, arnica tincture, witch hazel bark, and chamomile flowers well. Then, add 5 drops of lavender oil and 2 tbsp. of cold water in this mixture. Next, soak a cloth in this mixture and gently put it on the affected area. Allow it to be on for 13 to 15 minutes before removing it from the skin. Repeat this process 1 or 2 times per day within 3 days. 4. St. John’s Wort Benefits On Health – Works as an Antidepressant:. Many studies show that St. John’s wort may help fight mild to moderate depression and anxiety and has fewer side effects than most other prescription antidepressants, such as loss of sex drive. However, it does interact with a number of medications, so it should be taken only under the guidance of a health care provider, especially if you already take medications for depression. In many studies, St. John’s wort uses seem to work as well as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), a popular type of antidepressant that doctors often prescribe first to treat depression, such as Prozac, Celexa and Zoloft. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, researchers aren’t exactly sure how St. John’s wort works; some have suggested that the herb acts similar to a SSRI because it makes more serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine available in the brain. These neurotransmitters help improve your mood and can be responsible for treating symptoms of depression. In studies using the rat forced swimming test, an animal model of depression, St John’s wort extracts induced a significant reduction of immobility. In other experimental models of depression, including acute and chronic forms of escape deficit induced by stressors, St John’s wort extract was shown to protect rats from the consequences of unavoidable stress.
