Full example on disturbances in climax communities from Educator.com’s AP Biology class. Want to know more? Our full lesson includes in-depth video explanations of communities. ►See the entire syllabus at http://www.educator.com/biology/ap-biology/eaton/?utm_source=YT&utm_medium=SEO&utm_campaign=APBIOYT In this video, we’ll discuss which disturbance requires the most time for a habitat to return to its original climax community. The full lesson discusses community along with competition and predation. This will be useful in AP Biology when studying ecology, species habitats, and primary succession. Like other instructors such as Khan Academy, Bozeman Science, and CrashCourse? Our AP Biology instructor is pretty awesome too. Dr. Carleen Eaton utilizes her M.D. from the UCLA School of Medicine to bring in real world applications and examples for her AP Biology class. Carleen covers all the AP tested topics from cell structure to evolution to the laboratory review. Dr. Eaton has been teaching math and science for over 10 years and has won numerous "Teacher of the Year" awards and is consistently ranked as one of the top instructors in California. Donna Schieffer - What led me to become a teacher and my advice for young teachers

06:16
Donna Schieffer AP Biology and Accelerated Zoology Central High School West Central High School Unified School District Fresno, California Donna has spent her entire life in the Fresno area. After considering a variety of professional possibilities, she decided to major in Biology at Fresno State University where she graduated with a Bachelors of Science. She went directly from college to be trained and licensed as an Emergency Medical Technician. She also became a CPR instructor at a local hospital and eventually put her degree to work doing pathology in the hospital morgue, where she assisted in over one hundred autopsies. However, after three years, she found the work to be quite monotonous and, “out of the blue” she began to think about teaching as an occupations. Donna returned to school to get her Single Subject Teaching Credential from National University and did her student teaching at Central High School West, where she was hired immediately following the completion of her student teaching assignment. Donna has been teaching Biology and Zoology at Central High West for seventeen years. She later earned her Masters Degree in Nutrition from the Clayton College in Birmingham, Alabama. __________ The Carlston Family Foundation seeks to challenge all Americans to engage in addressing the critical issues surrounding the level of education in our country. Our program endeavors to find, recognize and reward educators in our public high schools, who, by their own example, demonstrate the value of knowledge through their commitment to their students’ academic successes, and to encourage other educators to simulate these successful teaching patterns. http://www.carlstonfamilyfoundation.com

Vascular Plants = Winning! - Crash Course Biology #37

11:54
Hank introduces us to one of the most diverse and important families in the tree of life - the vascular plants. These plants have found tremendous success and the their secret is also their defining trait: conductive tissues that can take food and water from one part of a plant to another part. Though it sounds simple, the ability to move nutrients and water from one part of an organism to another was a evolutionary breakthrough for vascular plants, allowing them to grow exponentially larger, store food for lean times, and develop features that allowed them to spread farther and faster. Plants dominated the earth long before animals even showed up, and even today hold the world records for the largest, most massive, and oldest organisms on the planet.
