Mendelian Genetics

16:04
029 - Mendelian Genetics Paul Andersen explains simple Mendelian genetics. He begins with a brief introduction of Gregor Mendel and his laws of segregation and independent assortment. He then presents a number of simple genetics problems along with their answers. He also explains how advances in genetic knowledge may lead to ethical and privacy concerns. Med School: My Advice to High School and Premed students

07:07
Hey, I'm Student Doctor Thompson In this video I share some advice I have for High School and Premed students who wish to get into medical school. I skimmed over the "traditional" advice and went into what I think is much more important. I don't think you should forget about YOU. Medical school will be an option for just about anyone who wants it badly enough, so I'm not as concerned about you getting accepted, because I know if it is important enough it WILL happen, as I am concerned about the quality of life doctors will have in the future. It all starts with high school when we can really step back and make sure life isn't so serious that we loose track of what it is really all about and head for an unwavering path to premed, med school, residency, and a career that we aren't really even sure we want anymore. I talk about ruling out other options before starting medical school, hopefully to avoid having a mid-life crisis of sorts, or a mid-training crisis and hopefully to avoid leaving medicine all together. Anyways, it is clear that I'm not very good at writing, so I'll stop. Thank you for watching, please comment if you feel so inclined, and please subscribe to follow future videos from yours truly.

Chemistry: Introduction to the Periodic Table

09:06
Chemistry: Introduction to the Periodic Table The periodic table is the most powerful tool chemists have for organizing chemical information. Without it, chemistry would be a chaotic, confusing jumble of seemingly random observations. What makes the periodic table really invaluable is its use as a predictive tool. You can predict a lot about the chemical behavior of an element if you know where it is on the periodic table. We give credit to Dmitri Mendeleev for the first Periodic Table. He organized the elements in his table in order of atomic mass. Henry Moseley modified the table, ordering the elements in terms of atomic number. This is the periodic table we use today. BREAKING NEWS: The Periodic Table now has a FULL SEVENTH ROW! #113, #115, #117, and #118 http://www.theguardian.com/science/20... Donna Schieffer - What led me to become a teacher and my advice for young teachers

06:16
Donna Schieffer AP Biology and Accelerated Zoology Central High School West Central High School Unified School District Fresno, California Donna has spent her entire life in the Fresno area. After considering a variety of professional possibilities, she decided to major in Biology at Fresno State University where she graduated with a Bachelors of Science. She went directly from college to be trained and licensed as an Emergency Medical Technician. She also became a CPR instructor at a local hospital and eventually put her degree to work doing pathology in the hospital morgue, where she assisted in over one hundred autopsies. However, after three years, she found the work to be quite monotonous and, “out of the blue” she began to think about teaching as an occupations. Donna returned to school to get her Single Subject Teaching Credential from National University and did her student teaching at Central High School West, where she was hired immediately following the completion of her student teaching assignment. Donna has been teaching Biology and Zoology at Central High West for seventeen years. She later earned her Masters Degree in Nutrition from the Clayton College in Birmingham, Alabama. __________ The Carlston Family Foundation seeks to challenge all Americans to engage in addressing the critical issues surrounding the level of education in our country. Our program endeavors to find, recognize and reward educators in our public high schools, who, by their own example, demonstrate the value of knowledge through their commitment to their students’ academic successes, and to encourage other educators to simulate these successful teaching patterns. http://www.carlstonfamilyfoundation.com

This HD dramatic video choreographed to powerful music introduces the viewer/student to the wonder of DNA. It is designed as a "trailer" to be shown by Biology teachers in middle and high school and college as a visual "Introduction" to this amazing molecule, and how it has directed the tree of life on Earth. Please rate this video and feel free to comment. If you like it, please spread the word via any social media sites you can. The more teachers and students who can enjoy these dramatic videos, the better! To view all of my videos in Biology, Earth Science, and Astronomy, subscribe to my channel at: http://www.youtube.com/user/sfgregs?feature=mhum. I will be releasing new videos periodically. I wish to thank all the quality video and music producers whose postings enabled me to assemble this video for educational use. I wish to particularly thank Eric Whitacre for his beautiful animations of the tree of life. To best enjoy this video, turn up your speakers. The music is very powerful and dramatic! I can customize this video to add your name or school name at the end credits, for a very modest fee. If interested, email me at "fsgregs@comcast.net" Until recently, you were able to download my videos for free from my other video storage site (vimeo.com). Recently, however, they began charging a significant membership fee to enable that feature, so I regret that downloading from there is no longer available. However, you can search for and obtain free download addons for your browser that will allow you to download my videos from either YouTube or Vimeo.
