Home Fire Escape Plans
In the event of a fire, remember - time is the biggest enemy and every second counts! Escape plans help you get out of your home quickly. In less than 30 seconds a small flame can get completely out of control and turn into a major fire. It only takes minutes for a house to fill with thick black smoke and become engulfed in flames. Have a home fire escape plan and practice it regularly to give you and your family the best chance to escape a fire.

Family Home Fire Safety Plan with Dale Jr., Kelley, and Amy Earnhardt
When Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kelley Earnhardt Miller were children, their mother's home was destroyed by a home fire. They all made it out safely, but the experience has had a lasting impact on their lives. This year, the Earnhardts are partnering with Nationwide's Make Safe Happen program and Nationwide Children's Hospital to urge families to plan and practice home fire drills. Parents can download the tools they need from the Make Safe Happen website and practice with their children until they can all get outside to their safety spot in less than two minutes. Dale Jr. and his wife, Amy Earnhardt, now have a baby daughter and the responsibility of parenthood has made them think about home fire safety for their family and want to teach others how to plan for and practice home fire drills ont heir own. They encourage families to create a written escape plan with two ways out of every room. Designate a safe meeting spot outside the the home and then practice getting out of the home in 2 minutes or less. Then post the plan in a space where the family can see it. Transcript: Dale: I’m Dale Jr and this is my sister Kelley. Kelley: We are here today working with Nationwide on their Make Safe Happen program, and Nationwide Children’s Hospital, to raise awareness for families, and encourage them to do home fire drills. Kelley: Well, when Dale and I were children, we were six and eight and had our own house fire. Dale: I do remember some of the images of that day and what that experience was like for me. Someone coming into the bedroom and getting me up. I walked out of the doorway of the bedroom and looked to the left and it was just a wall of flames. Kelley: Even as an adult today, there’s still something there that kind of resonates in my heart and makes it start beating faster when I start think about fire and, you know, I have three children. Putting that plan in place and talking about that with my family is really important to me. Dale you’ve got a small child and a family so I’m sure those are things you’re thinking about too. Amy: I’m Amy Earnhardt, Dale’s wife. It’s really important to me now that we have a child to not only know where to go but to share that with Isla so she knows the process once she’s old enough. I feel like after that moment though when she’s old enough to comprehend it herself, it’s going to be even more nerve wracking to make sure she does the right thing. Amy: Practicing a home fire drill is really important. It’s just as important as having the plan itself because if you don’t practice it them no one knows what to do. I think it’s really important to go over all these things with your children because you don’t know how they’re going to react. You want your kids to associate, you want yourself to associate, when you hear that smoke alarm go off you want to know how to get out of the house and that should be your trigger. Know your exit, know what to do, so it’s not a panic situation. Dale: One thing that’s important is that everybody figures out at least two escape routes from every room. Amy: And also make sure you write it down so that there’s a written escape plan for everyone to look for. Make sure the family knows where to meet once the fire has commenced and you’ve exited the house. There needs to be a safe meeting point outside the home. Dale: You can’t have the attitude that it’s not going to happen to you cause it could, and when it does you want to be prepared. Dale: Isla, being so young, she can’t, she won’t, be able to help with the exit plan. I’m going to have to be her exit plan. And so, as your family changes, and as your life changes, as your household changes, the plan changes. Amy: Visit Makesafehappen.com to learn more. You can also download the Make Safe Happen app for iPhone and Android.

Protect Our Nestlings - Keeping our Families Safe
http://www.mormonchannel.org/watch/series/mormon-messages/protect-our-nestlings Is your family protected? That is the important question President Packer helps us consider in this story of looking out for those you love. President Packer tells of a tragic scene he witnessed in his own backyard, where house finches made nests in the ivy. One day, he heard a group of finches cry out in alarm and saw a snake sliding out from behind the leaves. He knew the bulges in the snake’s body must have been baby finches taken from their nests “Not in the 50 years we had lived in our home had we seen anything like that,” President Packer says. His story illustrates the reality that even in our own homes we are vulnerable to the attacks of the adversary. It is vital that we take the necessary precautions to warn and protect our family members, especially children and teenagers. As President Packer reminds us, “You will do no greater eternal work than within the walls of your own home.” Subscribe to Mormon Channel for the latest videos: http://bit.ly/1M0iPwY Download the Mormon Channel App iOS: http://bit.ly/1yGRgRU Android: http://bit.ly/1ukxbeC Follow Mormon Channel Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mormonchannel Twitter: https://twitter.com/mormonchannel Instagram: https://instagram.com/mormonchannel Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/mormonchannel The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Does Your Family Have a Fire Safety Plan?
KETTERING -- Twenty-one people have died as a result of fires in Ohio so far this year. That's according to the state fire marshal's office. Deadly fire, after deadly fire, it's natural for fire safety to worry you. Mom of five Heather Harpant let us into her West Carrollton home to check out thier fire extinguishers. "We worry about fires all the time, you know," Harphant said while giving us a tour. "I thought we had two. We have one right there and I thought we had one inside." Heather did have one inside, just beyond the kitchen. The kitchen was a popular location in the dozen homes ABC 22 visited. Jeannie Wright went to her kitchen to check out her extinguisher, only to find it wasn't there. "It had expired and we got rid of it and I thought it was still in there," West Carrollton's Jeannie Wright said. ABC 22 visited Kettering Fire Battalion Chief Jon Durrenberg in his garage Thursday (January 29th, 2015) where his family's fire extinguisher is located. "You want to make sure that everybody's out, the fire department is called, and if it's a small fire you can try to make a small estinguishment," Durrenburg explained Thursday. Expiration dates are different based on make and model, but here's a professional life hack that works on all extinguishers. "Even though it says its good here, you may want to turn it over and tap it with a hammer to loosen [the inside] particles," Durrenberg said. Remember a fire extinguisher is just one part of a safety plan. "You can have an extinguisher, you can have smoke detectors, but you have to know how to get out! All that has to be thought of ahead of time," Durrenberg added. Does your family have a safety plan and everybody knows where to get out, and where to meet outside?

Music Without Copyright Published on Jun 20, 2017 Video transcript: If your house was on fire and you needed to get out would your family know what to do? When was the last time you checked your smoke detectors? In this video, I’m answering those questions for my family and sharing some information that just might help you keep your family safe. If you want to learn more about cooking, cleaning, laundry, planning, and health and beauty – then consider subscribing but definitely check out the show notes and the links below because that’s where I’ll put the information about the products I used in today’s video. In case you’re wondering why I started this challenge, we had a grease fire in the kitchen and after everything was sorted out, it turned out both our smoke alarms were defective. Then I wondered how many other people might have this same problem. I put on my community health nursing hat and did a little research where I learned that 3 out of 5 home fire-related deaths were associated with no working smoke alarms in the home. I made a preliminary video about our kitchen grease fire and another video with more information about home fire alarms, fire safety, and issued the Love Your Family Safety Challenge. The videos are linked above so and you can view them at your leisure. The challenge required you to do two things – video tape yourself testing your smoke alarm – that means causing it to sound off and create a family escape plan. Here’s our family escape plan – there’s just me and the hubby here and we have a two story house. If a fire breaks out on the first floor, and we are upstairs and our exit is blocked, the plan is to go out one of the front bedroom windows onto the roof and drop down into the front yard. If we are on the first floor, we’ll exit out either the front, back, or garage door depending on where the fire is. If our grandchildren are here visiting, my husband would check on whoever’s using the office bedroom and I’d check on the girls’ bedroom. That’s just to keep us from running around like chickens but, once we exit the house, the plan is to meet out front in the drive way or if the situation warrants, across the street from the driveway. If you want more information about creating a family escape plan for fire for your family, check out the links for the National Fire Protection Association above. You can download escape planning safety tip sheets and other worksheets to help you create family escape routes, practice fire drills, and more. They’ve got great information so do check them out. One more thing – you should also have a portable fire extinguisher and everyone should know how to use it. Keep it where it is accessible. Here’s my question to you: What other ideas do you have to improve fire safety in the home? You might have something to share that’s just right for another viewer. Let’s talk about it in the comments section. In the meantime, I'd like to remind you that fighting fires is everyone’s fight. PRAYER FOR MY FAMILY PROTECTION (Powerful). Dear Father God, I pray this prayer in the power of the Holy Spirit. In the name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, I bind, rebuke and bring to no effect, all division, discord, disunity, strife, anger, wrath, criticism, condemnation, pride, envy, jealousy, gossip, slander, evil speaking, complaining, lying, false teaching, false gifts, false manifestations, lying signs and wonders, poverty, fear of lack, fear spirits, murmuring spirits, hindering spirits, retaliatory spirits, deceiving spirits, religious spirits, occult spirits, witchcraft spirits, and all kind of evil spirits, I command all of them out of me and my family, and go to the abyss never to return, and do not send reinforcements. I bind all curses that have been spoken against me and my family. I bless those who curse me and my family, and pray blessings on those who despiteful use me or my family. I bind all spoken judgment made against me and my family, as well as judgments that I have made against others. I bind the power of negative words from others, and I bind and render useless all prayers not inspired by the Holy Spirit; whether psychic, soul force, witchcraft or counterfeit tongues, that have been prayed against me or my family. I am God’s child. I resist the devil. No weapon formed against me and my family shall prosper. I put on the whole armor of God. I am God’s property. Satan and your demons, you are bound from me, my mind, my body, my thoughts, my feelings, my home, my family, and my finances. My Lord God Jesus, please cover me and my family with your holy blood, and put a hedge of protection around myself, spouse and children throughout this day and night. I ask you Father God, in the name of my Lord Jesus, to dispatch your holy angels to surround me, my spouse and my children today, and to put them throughout my house and around our cars, souls and bodies. I ask your holy angels to protect my house from any intrusion, and to protect me and my family from any harmful demonic, or other physical or mental attacks. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, amen. Watch more powerful related prayers: https://goo.gl/dvSLaf

What is A Voluntary Plan? CPS Asked My Family to Follow One - California Attorney Ryan McGlinn
http://www.juvenilelawcenter.com California juvenile law attorney Ryan McGlinn talks about how Child Protective Services may ask for you and your family to follow a voluntary plan and what that means. When trying to hold your family together, it is important to work with Child Protective Services. They may suggest for you to follow a voluntary plan instead of going to court. The idea of this plan is that it is voluntary and your family is not forced to follow the plan, but it is in your best interest. During this plan, your family may be asked to enter counseling, rehabilitation classes, and even asking one parent to leave the home if domestic violence is an issue. If your family can complete this plan successfully over a given period of time, your children will not be removed from their home and your case may be resolved. If there are violations during this time, Child Protective Services takes the matter to court and your family may not remain together. Watch the video now to learn more. This is simply a video I’ve put together where I would like to pray for anyone within the sound of my voice. All I ask you to do is to agree with me as we seek our Heavenly Father. Please do continue to meditate on this prayer for yourself and for your family. Speak it daily and allow the Word of God concerning protection for your entire family to reach deep into your spirit. Let us pray... Father, in the Name of Jesus, I thank You that You watch over Your Word to perform it as You promised to those who are listening to my voice right now. “...I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled." - Jer 1:12 Father, thank you that you are the head of the entire family in Heaven and on earth and You deeply love the family I am lifting up to you right now. Psalm 139:17 says that your thoughts about this family are too many to count. Isaiah 54:17 says that no weapon formed against this family shall prosper so we bind and rebuke any plans meant for evil to come against this family... I thank You, Lord, that this family may lie down and You will give them all peaceful sleep, for You sustain them and make them dwell in safety. They shall not be afraid of the terror of the night, nor of the arrow (the evil plots and slanders of the wicked) that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor of the destruction and sudden death that surprise and lay waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at their side, and ten thousand at their right hand, but it shall not come near them. Only a spectator shall they be - inaccessible in the secret place of the Most High - as they witness the reward of the wicked. Praise You Father that this family we are praying about right now are totally and completely surrounded and protected by Your Almighty power in Jesus Name! Amen. Resilient Business: Family Communications Plan
http://emergencyplanguide.org/checklist - Family Communications for your Business Continuation Plan Does your company have a plan for emergencies? Whether it's called an Emergency Plan or a Business Continuation Plan it probably covers employee safety and lists steps to preserve important data and protect mission critical operations. The problem is, only something like 37% of small businesses actually have a workable plan. And we know from experience that as many as half of small businesses without a plan don't survive a major catastrophe. There are a number of reasons. My name is Joe Krueger. Virginia Nicols and I sponsor the Emergency Plan Guide website that helps people improve the odds for survival. Today we're dealing with one of the most neglected areas of the small business plans we've seen. . . . and that is the need for employees to get information on their home and family safety. Not knowing how family members have fared will be a major concern and distraction at a critical point in the company's survival. If your company doesn't have a Family Communications Plan, stick around for another two minutes and get ideas about how to set one up. It's natural that everyone's first concern is going to be the well-being of their loved ones. What's happening at the business will be secondary! People will first try to get in touch with family via phone. In a widespread disaster, phones may be overloaded or out altogether. If people can't get through, they are likely to leave work and try to get home . . .even if roads are flooded, bridges are down or streets are blocked with traffic. Abandoning the workplace can seriously jeopardize the facilities and company assets and put employee lives in danger. A good plan can prevent this from happening. The first step is to provide a means of reporting on damages -- near the workplace and in areas where different employees live. A simple battery-operated emergency radio like this one can monitor weather and emergency radio broadcasts. It costs less than $50, and works even when power is out because it's rechargeable using special batteries, a hand-crank or solar. Our recommendation: set up an Emergency Communications Center (or two) supplied with radios and instructions for how to use them. If you have interested employees, you may want to invest in a more sophisticated HAM radio system. With this equipment, trained employees can monitor police and other first responder communications. In either case, your Emergency Communications Center can share important, official news and updates. The Emergency Communications Center can also serve as a contact point for communications between employees and their homes or out-of area contacts. You probably have heard that long-distant phone communications are often working even when local circuits are overloaded or out of service altogether. Obviously, all contact information must be in place BEFORE the emergency hits. And, a back-up must be available on paper - because computers may not be functioning. To learn more about the Emergency Communications Center concept, log onto http://EmergencyPlanGuide.org and request our comprehensive 25-Point Emergency Planning Checklist. The website also includes resources for home and neighborhood. This information is presented as a public service.

Determine what additional training, equipment, and supplies are needed. Practice! Occasional drills can improve reaction time and help to avoid panic in an actual emergency But you, your family, and even closest friends will be safe. In fact, I've found a number of free or dirt-cheap ways to protect yourself, that are definitely more realistic. The single most important thing your family needs (after a plan) in the event of a hurricane, tornado, flood, or civil war. Top 7 ways to lock-down your house mere minutes after a terrorist attack. Terrorists and looters will have no chance -- in fact they won't even know you're there! Two heirlooms that are turning your living room into a death trap! Three minute fix will make all the difference in the world! (Hint: these can demolish your floor in an earthquake). One small factor that could be turning your windows into prison bars during a fire -- this is extremely important for houses older than 2 years old! Number one change you MUST make in your children's bedroom. This is most likely opposite what you have now -- but it makes a difference! These small changes can save your life, as well as make your home more secure. 5 TOP BENEFITS TO BEING PREPARED FOR A DISASTER: Being prepared will increase your odds of survival. You will feel more secure knowing that your family, workplace or classroom is prepared. You will feel less fearful and more at ease about an upcoming disastrous event. (This is especially evident with children.) It will give you a sense of pride knowing that you are able to help others survive until help arrives. Being prepared will show that you are being a responsible role model and care about the safety of your family, coworkers or students.

In this second video, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his wife, Amy Earnhardt, share the parts of a good Home Fire Drill Plan. The video looks like a NASCAR race press conference and Dale and Amy show their viewers the Home Fire Escape template, how to test the smoke alarms, and putting the plan in a place where all can see it. It is important for families to practice home fire drills so that children know the sound of a smoke alarm and know what to do and where to go when the smoke alarm goes off. Families are can download the home fire drill plan template from the Make Safe Happen website, draw out their floorplan, mark two ways out of each room and a safe meeting spot outside the home. Then practice getting out of the home in less than 120 seconds or less. Then share your Home Fire Drill 120 celebration on social media using the #HomeFireDrill120 hashtag.
