This pharmaceutical drug is used to treat congestive heart failure, high blood pressure and many other medical conditions. Research and clinical studies prove it to be a very effective drug class for many, as it works by causing the blood vessels to become enlarged or dilated, and thus causing a reduction in the blood pressure. This lowering of the blood pressure makes it easier for the heart to pump blood and it can improve the function of a failing heart. In the United States, 10 ACE inhibitors are in use: Ramipril (Altace) Enalapril (Vasotec, Epaned) Quinapril (Accupril) Captopril (Capoten) Benazepril (Lotensin) Lisinopril (Prinivil, Zestril) Fosinopril (Monopril) Moexipril (Univasc) Trandolapril (Mavik) Perindopril (Aceon) NOTE...that the brand names of all of these above end with the suffix “pril”. NOW.. let’s take a closer look at this drug class, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, these drugs are helpful in treating heart, blood vessel, and kidney problems... Mechanism of Action: The human body is an amazing organism…In order to regulate water and blood pressure, our body follows special mechanisms. For example when the blood pressure drops too low, the kidneys release renin into the bloodstream. Renin then reacts with a protein called angiotensinogen that is produced by the liver. As a result, they form angiotensin I. Then another reaction converts angiotensin I to angiotensin II, with the help of angiotensin-converting enzyme found in the respiratory system. This whole mechanism is known as Renin-angiotensin system (RAS). Angiotensin II is a powerful substance. It circulates around the body in the bloodstream and induces several changes on the cardiovascular system. Such as stimulating adrenal cortex to release adolsterone and Constricting or narrowing down the blood vessels around the body. Aldosterone increases the reabsorption of water and sodium in the tubules of the kidneys. As a result, The volume of the blood and the concentration of salt in the blood increase leading to high blood pressure. The constriction of blood vessels results in high pressure inside the vessels, which also means an increase in blood pressure. Both of these events cause the heart to exert more pressure while pumping blood into the main arteries. Hence, it reverses the low blood pressure but it can also lead to other cardiovascular disorders if it persists for a long time. ACE inhibitors reduce the impact of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) on the blood pressure by inhibiting the angiotensin converting enzyme. As a result, The conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II is slowed down which brings about several changes in the cardiovascular system. The rate of water reabsorption in the kidneys drops and so volume of blood decreases. And the blood vessels relax and become dilated. Both of these factors “reduce the work load on the heart,” (this phrase is a simple explanation that the nurse might give to her patient to explain how the ACE inhibitor

Turmeric may reduce protein loss for weight lifters
Turmeric has scientifically been found to have a number of benefits. One that's least explored is how it may be able to help athletes and weight lifters prevent the loss of protein through urine. Studies show that strenuous exercise can induce protein loss through urine. We are also aware that high protein diets may suffer lack of protein retention due to excretion of excess protein in urine. Whether you train vigorously or take in extra protein as a weight lifter, taking a 1 teaspoon dose of turmeric daily may help prevent loss of protein through excretion. http://nutritionfacts.org/video/fighting-lupus-with-turmeric-good-as-gold/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21742514 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18089464 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amine

What i Would Do ~ Getting Up In The Middle Of The Night To 'Pee' ~~~Nancy
Hi! I've got some thoughts on this topic, and want to share what I feel and what I would do for someone I loved, who had to wake up https://youtu.be/9ciq-p3vnKc in the middle of the night to 'pee'. What I think it is and what it might actually mean. What I speak about are things that I do - not suggestions. I don't offer health advice or medical info. This is just my experience and things that I do. Minerals are the key to health and the lack of dis-ease. Cancers begin with the loss of minerals. It is my opinion that epsom salts - used for it's magnesium sulfate (a mineral) can possibly be substantial enough to avoid the loss of minerals sufficient to avoid cancer and other illness. Also I add iodine (just a drop) into a glass of water; most frequently. A magnascent iodine might be best; or Lugols iodine (you can look for this on the internet. I use a drugstore iodine. A regular red iodine. ~~~Nancy "The following are ten common reasons for nocturia: 1. Sleep Apnea: 50% of people with sleep apnea experience frequent nighttime urination. This is because when we make vigorous efforts breathe against a closed airway, the heart muscle is stretched. It then puts out a hormone, atrial natriuretic peptide, which increases urine production. 2. Congestive Heart Failure: During the day, fluid accumulates in the legs due to gravity and the heart’s inability to pump normally. When we lie down at night, this fluid, without the influence of gravity, reenters the blood stream and causes an increase in urine production. 3. Diabetes: Elevated levels of glucose in the kidneys at night draw more fluid into the urine. This can result in increased urine formation and disturbing nighttime urination. 4. Increased Age: Increased age has been associated with decreased bladder capacity, as well as a tendency of bladder muscles to become overactive. 5. Alcohol and Caffeine: Late night ingestion of either of these can cause nocturia that ruins sleep. They both can induce a diuresis resulting in frequent awakening. 6. Medications: Late night use of diuretic medications such as hydrochlorothiazide or furosemide (Lasix). I always find it interesting when I realize that people are unaware that the blood pressure medication they have been taking at night contains a diuretic. The simple solution is to take the medication in the morning. 7. Neurologic Disorders: Neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s and autoimmune disorders such as Multiple Sclerosis are both accompanied by dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system (involuntary nervous system). This can result in severe bladder dysfunction and frequent nighttime urination. 8. Chronic or Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections: Nocturia can result from chronic or recurrent infection. Associated symptoms could include burning, fever, abdominal or flank pain. 9. Excessive Fluid Intakes: Some folks will consume more than 30% of their fluids after dinner. Restricting the amount of fluids close to bedtime and encouraging earlier consumption may alleviate the problem. 10. Obesity: We are not sure why, but in several studies, obesity, especially abdominal obesity, has been associated with an increased incidence of nighttime urination. This could be in part due to unrecognized sleep apnea but that has not yet been proven. The bottom line is that you need to be aware of how many things which could be easily reversed or treated that might be causing those trips to the bathroom and destroying your sleep." However, blood pressure drugs can and should be used if your blood pressure is dangerously high. Unfortunately, as I’m sure you already know, blood pressure drugs cause lots of negative side-effects, such as Depression and anxiety. Impotence Fatigue Kidney and liver failure Anemia Colon problems Negative changes in your blood sugar levels Skin problems and hair loss 4 different types of blood pressure drugs and natural alternatives to them. 1. ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) Inhibitors These suppress a powerful enzyme that causes arterial walls to constrict and cause high blood pressure. This keeps arterial walls relaxed, reducing blood pressure and decreasing the work that the heart has to do. Natural alternatives are French Maritime Bark Extract and one of my favorites, Celery Seed Extract at 300 mgs daily, which has multiple clinical studies backing it up.1,2 2. Beta Blockers These work by blocking the beta limb of the autonomic nervous system (ANS), which is responsible for raising alertness, heart rate, and blood pressure in flight-or-fight situations. Beta blockers blunt this physiological response to stress, reducing high blood pressure. There are two, natural solutions that are clinically proven to lower blood pressure and work similarly to beta blockers. The first is an amino acid called L-Arginine. A more potent version being Arginine Alpha Keto-Glutarate (AAKG). The second is an amazing herb called English Hawthorn Berry Extract, which has over half a dozen human clinical studies proving blood pressure lowering results at 900 mgs daily.3-10 3. Calcium-Channel Blockers Similar to beta blockers, they improve blood flow and vascular tone through narrowed vessels. Some calcium-channel blockers reduce blood pressure by encouraging smooth-muscle relaxation in the inner lining of your blood vessels—preventing spasms and helping them dilate. One of the most important vitamins you should be taking daily, is Magnesium. One of its benefits is that it works as a calcium-channel blocker. However, there are lots of different forms of magnesium and each has its various benefits, depending on your health goals. When it comes to lowering blood pressure, a patented blend of Magnesium Glycinate Chelate, Albion® Di-Magnesium Malate, Magnesium Citrate and Magnesium Oxide which is highly absorbable and has been clinically shown to lower blood pressure.10-13 4. Diuretics These drugs reduce edema and water retention in your body and lungs, by increasing urine output and the end results is lower blood pressure. You need to eliminate or reduce regular table salt and use natural salts such as Himalayan and Celtic. ======================================== Thank you for watching. It's free and very enlightening. Dr. Berg takes about the relationship between insulin resistance, potassium and blood pressure. Blood pressure is a potassium deficiency, not a a sodium excess. However, if someone has a problem with insulin, potassium is even more deficient. Potassium is controlled by insulin. When there is insulin resistance, potassium becomes deficient. By spiking potassium in a pre-diabetic or a diabetic state, the need for insulin can reduce. What Factors Cause An Increase In PSA Levels?
Often the concern that many men have when they’re informed that their PSA levels are elevated is whether they are at risk for developing prostate cancer. A PSA test is designed to measure the level of a protein in your blood called prostatic specific antigen. While prostate cancer will of course increase the levels of PSA in your blood stream, this increase isn’t always an indication of prostate cancer. There are number of things that can elevate your PSA levels that are not related to prostate cancer. In a majority of cases an elevated PSA may be an indicator of another disorder entirely that is affecting the prostate gland. Let’s take a look at some of the most common factors that can cause an increase in PSA levels. Causes for the increase in PSA Prostatitis: Prostatitis is the inflammation of the prostate gland due to a bacterial infection. The condition is treated with antibiotics and affects mostly males below the age of 50. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH): Benign prostatic hyperplasia is an enlargement of the prostate gland which can cause difficulty with urination or increased frequency of urination. The condition itself is non-cancerous and primarily affects men over the age of 50. A digital rectal exam (DRE) is also conducted to properly diagnose BPH or other prostate related issues. Age: Age is one factor we simply have no control over. As men age PSA levels will gradually rise. For example, men with a PSA of 2.5 by the age of 40 is considered normal. A man who reaches the age of 60 will have a normal level of 4.5, what’s ironic however is that a younger man with a PSA score of 4.5 could potentially be at greater risk for prostate cancer. Sex (Ejaculation): Ejaculation during sexual intercourse can slightly raise PSA levels. They will generally return to normal within 48 hours. This slight increase however isn’t enough to make a significant difference unless your PSA level is borderline above normal. Before having a PSA test done ask your doctor if you should avoid sexual activity. Above all else it’s important that you don’t panic and closely examine all the factors relevant to you that may be causing an increase in your PSA. Get all the information you can and speak with your doctor before considering a biopsy to accurately determine if you do in fact have prostate cancer.

Your heart, your fluid, your energy, your nutrients in and out of the cell is dependent on the sodium and potassium pump. However, potassium is the most difficult to get from the diet. High levels of cortisol (stress), insulin, sugar, diuretics, excessive salt, surgery, all can deplete potassium. However, you need between 7-10 cups of salad or veggies to get your daily requirement of 4700mg. Hey guys, Dr. Berg here. I want to do a video on the most important electrolyte. Let me explain what an electrolyte is, if you ever take salt and put it in the water and dissolve it, the sodium and chloride disconnect and they become two separate minerals and that fluid is very electrically conductive. Basically electrolytes have to do with minerals that help conduct electricity in the body. They help with a lot of different things. As far as the electrolytes, it will be like potassium, sodium, magnesium, calcium, chlorides, and all those minerals. Potassium out of all the electrolytes is the one that we need in a very large quantities. Why is that? Why do we need potassium in a large amount? I am talking 4,700 mg to 6,000 mg every single day and that is equivalent to 7 to 10+ cups of salad or vegetables every single day. Let’s go dig further into exactly to why we need potassium. There are something in the body called sodium-potassium pump. It is built in a little protein connected to an enzyme, it forms a whole enzyme in the surface of your cells and you will have between 8,000 to 30million of this little tiny pumps and they are little generators that generate electricity to allow things to go through the cell so it take a lot of energy, in fact the energy of 1/3 of your diet goes to running those pumps. You also have another pump in the stomach called the hydrogen potassium ATPas, it is basically another pump that is built with a potassium that allows you to create stomach acid to help you digest. This pumps are also in the muscles, nervous systems and the pumps in the nervous system used about 60% of your body’s chloric intake of energy. In other words, these pumps are really critically important in exchanging nutrition, glucose, amino acids and other minerals to allow them to transport in other cell. Potassium is essential for building the pumps to allow these functions right here, they charge the cell electrically, so your cells have a certain voltage to allow things to work and go in and out of the cell to create different energy. In fact your energy that you have that controls your metabolism is controlled partly by these little pump. So it charges the cell electrically, it gives you energy. It helps the muscle contracts and relax because it allows calcium to go into the cell as well. It controls the transport of calcium. DR. Health Tips - Warning Signs Of High Blood Pressure That You Shouldn’t Ignore
High Blood Pressure Symptoms. Please SUBSCRIBE : http://bit.ly/2e9Su11 As our blood flows through the vessels and arteries throughout our body, it creates a certain amount of pressure on them. Normal blood pressure is considered to be 140/90 and lower than that. The first number refers to the systolic blood pressure, which is the pressure of the heart when it beats. The second number is the diastolic blood pressure and it is the strain measurement of the heart when it relaxes during beats. Which factors can lead to an elevated blood pressure? Stress can definitely trigger the occurrence of high blood pressure. When we are under stress, our body produces stress hormones adrenaline and cortisol, which instantly causes blood pressure to rise. In stressful situations, our blood vessels constrict, putting more pressure on the artery walls as the blood flows through them. Genes also have a part to play. If your close relatives suffer from elevated blood pressure, the likelihood that you will be affected is bigger too. The good news is that we can control some of the risk factors by leading a healthy lifestyle and eating healthily. Nutrition also plays a major role. Diet high in saturated fats and sodium can significantly increase the risk of hypertension. It is therefore recommended that we eat an abundance of whole foods that are low in sodium and high in heart-friendly fats, vitamins, minerals and fiber. Sm0king, as well as excessive alcohol and caffeine intake, can also lead to a high blood pressure, in addition to leading a sedentary lifestyle and being overweight. The likelihood also grows with age. People who suffer from disorders of the endocrine system, diabetes, high cholesterol, and kidney problems are more commonly affected by elevated blood pressure. In some persons, hypertension can suddenly rear its ugly head in pregnancy, in which case it has to be treated instantly since it can lead to preterm delivery and other serious complications in both mother and the baby. Why is it so important to treat high blood pressure? Elevated blood pressure means that the heart and the blood vessels are under a bigger amount of strain than they should be normally. This condition increases the risk of having a heart attack and/or stroke, kidney disorders and dementia. The limbs are also affected by an increased blood pressure – the peripheral arteries in the legs suffer too. What are the warning signs to look for? The dangerous feature of hypertension is that it can go without symptoms. Some people are not even aware that they suffer from it. It is, therefore, necessary to have regular health checkups. The following symptoms, however, indicate a dangerous rise in your blood pressure and they have to be treated by a physician immediately: Blurred vision. Bleeding from the nose. A pounding sensation in the neck and in the ears. Severe headache. Blood in urine. A feeling of numbness. Heavy and difficult breathing. A feeling of lightheadedness and frequent dizziness. Bad circulation. What are the methods for treating hypertension? It is essential that you promptly consult your physician in case you notice a rise in your blood pressure. It can be controlled by a combination of medication and some lifestyle changes. Moderate exercising is considered as a natural way to control hypertension. When we exercise, the oxygen intake is increased and the blood vessels are widened, not to mention the stress relief that we obtain from being physical active. What about nutrition? When it comes to the role of nutrition, DASH diet is the recommended option not only for reducing blood pressure but for improving and maintaining health in general. The abbreviation DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. It includes the following: consuming dairy products that have a low-fat content; eating a variety of fresh produce; choosing fish, poultry, grains and nuts as a rich source of protein rather than foods that are high in cholesterol and saturated fats. Keeping Kidneys Safe - Know How Medicines Affect the Kidneys
If you have diabetes or kidney disease, it’s important to be careful about the medicines you take. This video describes how the kidneys work and how certain medicines affect the kidneys. Read the following resource to learn more about keeping your kidneys safe: https://www.niddk.nih.gov/health-information/kidney-disease/keeping-kidneys-safe This video was developed by the National Kidney Disease Education Program Pharmacy Working Group. For more information, visit https://www.niddk.nih.gov/ --- Transcript: If you have diabetes or kidney disease, it’s important to be careful about the medicines you take. Some medicines may harm your kidneys, especially if you take them when you are sick with the flu or diarrhea. To understand why, it helps to know how the kidneys work. You have two kidneys. Your kidneys act as filters. They remove waste and extra water from your body to make urine. The kidney is not one big filter; each kidney is made up of about 1 million tiny filters. Blood flows into each filter through a small blood vessel and out through a small blood vessel. These blood vessels can expand and narrow to change the amount of pressure inside the filter. The amount of pressure in the filter changes how much blood is filtered. It is important that the pressure be kept in a healthy range. If the blood vessel carrying blood INTO the filter narrows, blood cannot flow into the filter as quickly. This lowers the pressure inside the filter. Too little pressure means that your kidneys won’t filter enough blood. However, if the blood vessel carrying blood OUT of the filter narrows, blood cannot flow out as quickly. This raises the pressure inside the filter. Many people with high blood pressure, diabetes, or kidney disease take special kinds of blood pressure medicines, such as lisinopril and losartan and other medicines that end in “pril” or “sartan.” In addition to lowering blood pressure in your whole body, these medicines affect pressure in your kidneys and in their filters, by opening the blood vessels carrying blood out of the filters. If you have certain kinds of kidney disease, lowering pressure in the filters can protect your kidneys. But, if you get sick from something like the flu or diarrhea, the blood pressure in your body may already be low, which makes the pressure in your kidneys low. If you keep taking your blood pressure medicine, the pressure in your filters can get so low that your kidneys won’t filter normally. Certain pain medicines can also harm your kidneys, especially if you are taking blood pressure medicines. These medicines—called NSAIDs—have many names, including ibuprofen, naproxen, and others If you get sick, NSAIDs may cause the blood vessels carrying blood into the filters of your kidney to narrow, lowering the pressure in the filters. This causes the kidney to filter less blood. If you get sick and are taking blood pressure medicines, taking NSAIDs may cause the pressure in your kidneys to drop so much that filtering nearly stops. If you are taking blood pressure medicines or NSAIDS, especially if you have diabetes or kidney disease you should talk to your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist about how to prevent possible complications. In women, it is often characterized by low sexual desire or various disorders including sexual arousal, orgasm, and sexual pain. In men, erectile dysfunction (ED) is just that: difficulty getting or keeping erections sufficient for intercourse. ED is often the result of an untreated underlying condition, like diabetes or hypertension. Occasional use of marijuana may not increase risk of kidney disease
Occasional use of marijuana may not increase risk of kidney disease. The research does not address heavy users, the elderly, or those with pre-existing chronic kidney disease. Occasional and relatively light use of marijuana may not increase risk of kidney disease in healthy adults below the age of 60, suggests new research. The study, published in The American Journal of Medicine, found no association between current or previous marijuana use and kidney function. “Our research provides some reassuring evidence suggesting that there is no detrimental effect of infrequent, relatively light use of marijuana on kidney function among healthy adults under age 60,” said lead investigator Murray Mittleman, professor of Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. “However, our research does not address heavy users, the elderly, or those with pre-existing chronic kidney disease. Research is needed to evaluate the impact of marijuana use in adults 60 and over, and among those with existing or at risk of developing kidney disease,” Mittleman said. The researchers analysed a nationally representative sample of nearly 14,000 predominantly healthy adults aged 18-59 years living in the US who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2007 to 2014. The investigators found no statistically significant association between history of marijuana use and the likelihood of developing stage-2 or greater chronic kidney disease. Likewise, they did not observe a statistically significant association between the history of marijuana use and the incidence of microalbuminuria, a moderate increase in the level of urine albumin and a marker of kidney disease. - Please subscribe channel to receive daily video: https://goo.gl/VoQuqq

Are there any medications to avoid before Kidney Transplantation? - Dr. Sankaran Sundar
A patient who is going for transplant, normally before transplant they are on dialysis. The period of dialysis could vary form weeks to months to years, depending on the availability of the donor. When you are on dialysis, normally what happens is one of the function of the kidney is to keep the haemoglobin up by a substance called erythropoietin. When this erythropoietin level is low, they get anaemic and in olden days about 25 years ago this substance called erythropoietin was not available and patients were given blood transfusion. The problem with blood is blood can carry infection. It can be Hepatitis A, B, C. It can be even other infections like HIV or AIDS. So to avoid blood transfusion is very important when you go for transplantation is there a problem with blood is when you give blood, the blood actually forms what is called as antibodies in the patient. These antibodies can damage the newly transplanted kidneys. Infact we suggest a person going or transplantation to avoid blood transfusion and to avoid blood products to prevent what is called as sensitisation. Sensitisation means somebody who has received blood or a lady who has had multiple pregnancies, they have multiple antibodies in them, which can cause rejection of the kidney and the survival of the transplanted kidney can come down. So we suggest all patients on dialysis before transplantation to avoid blood and blood products to prevent not only Hepatitis in the HIV and other sort of infections, but also to see that they don’t form preformed antibodies which could damage the transplanted kidney and the kidney could reject.

Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) Treatment Medications Nursing Interventions Heart Disease Part 2
Coronary artery disease (also called coronary heart disease) NCLEX lecture video on the nursing interventions, treatment, and medications for CAD. CAD is the build up of fatty plaques due to atherosclerosis that causes the arteries of the heart to become narrow. This leads to restrictive blood supply to the heart muscle which can lead to chest pain (stable or unstable angina) to myocardial infraction (MI). Nursing interventions for coronary heart disease include education about modifying lifestyle such as smoking cessation, diet (low fat and calorie), and exercise. Medication management plays another role in coronary artery disease management. As the nurse, it is important to provide education to patients about being compliant with medications, how to take them, and possible side effects. Medications for CAD include nitrates (Nitroglycerin), antiplatelets (Aspirin or Plavix), statins (Lipitor), beta blockers (Metoprolol), or ACE inhibitors (Lisinopril). The main coronary arteries that supply the heart with blood include the left and right coronary artery. The left coronary artery branches off into the left circumflex artery and left anterior descending artery. The right coronary artery branches off into the right marginal artery and posterior descending artery. If ischemia has been present for a long time collateral circulation can develop as well. This is where tiny blood vessel re-route blood supply to the heart to pass the blockage. Signs and symptoms of heart disease include: chest pain (especially with activity and is relieved with rest which is known as stable angina), shortness of breath, feeling very tired. Coronary artery disease is diagnosed in various ways: lipid profile which measures the cholesterol levels, EKG, stress test, heart catheterization. Don't forget to check out part 1 of this lecture which covers the pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, risk factors, and treatments for coronary artery disease. Medix Select Prostate Revive Reviews Does Medix Select Prostate Revive Work And Any Side Effects
http://zenn7.com/ Enlarged Prostate The prostate is a gland that produces the fluid that carries sperm during ejaculation. The prostate gland surrounds the urethra, the tube through which urine passes out of the body. An enlarged prostate means the gland has grown bigger. Prostate enlargement happens to almost all men as they get older. As the gland grows, it can press on the urethra and cause urination and bladder problems. An enlarged prostate is often called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It is not cancer, and it does not raise your risk for prostate cancer. Causes » The actual cause of prostate enlargement is unknown. Factors linked to aging and changes in the cells of the testicles may have a role in the growth of the gland. Men who have had their testicles removed at a young age (for example, as a result of testicular cancer) do not develop BPH. Also, if the testicles are removed after a man develops BPH the prostate begins to shrink in size. Some facts about prostate enlargement: The likelihood of developing an enlarged prostate increases with age. BPH is so common that it has been said all men will have an enlarged prostate if they live long enough. A small amount of prostate enlargement is present in many men over age 40. More than 90% of men over age 80 have the condition. No risk factors have been identified other than having normally functioning testicles. Symptoms » Less than half of all men with BPH have symptoms of the disease. Symptoms may include: Dribbling at the end of urinating Inability to urinate (urinary retention) Incomplete emptying of your bladder Incontinence Needing to urinate two or more times per night Pain with urination or bloody urine (these may indicate infection) Slowed or delayed start of the urinary stream Straining to urinate Strong and sudden urge to urinate Weak urine stream

8 Foods that Are Actually Damaging Your Kidneys - Natural Health Cures
8 Foods that Are Actually Damaging Your Kidneys - Natural Health Cures Have you ever noticed that final powerful spray of water at the carwash before your vehicle gets a rapid blow dry? The water jets pulverize any remaining remnants of dirt. That’s one way to view how our kidneys work. Their job is to flush out toxins from the blood by way of urine. The National Institutes of Health reports that our kidneys filter an excess of 200 quarts of blood daily. That translates into 2 quarts of waste each day. They don’t get holidays or weekends off; they work day and night. Thankfully, our kidneys can wash away impurities while retaining vital nutrients floating around in our blood. Keeping our internal filters healthy and functioning properly is invaluable for nourishment and detoxification of our bodies. So naturally, whatever we eat and drink has a dramatic impact on our kidneys’ health. A steady diet of unhealthy food and drinks can strain their performance, and put us at risk. The good news is, it’s never too late to improve your diet and lifestyle, even if your kidneys are already impaired. In today’s video we will see how our kidneys react to too much consumption of 8 different foods and beverages. 1. Red meat We’ve all heard that protein is good for our health. But too much of anything can be harmful. For example, a diet that is high in red meat, which contains lots of animal protein, can damage our kidneys. The reason? Our kidneys need to metabolism this protein. When there’s a conveyor belt of rich protein headed toward the kidneys for cleansing, they just can’t keep up with the pace. When kidneys can’t eliminate waste products, there will be a build-up of acidic residue in our body. It’s always good to talk to your health care professional about the diet that’s right for you. 2. Alcohol Just like eating too much red meat can strain our kidneys, the same is true with too much alcohol; they will be unable to properly filter our blood. Also, too much alcohol can cause dehydration. This creates a domino effect: if our blood is dehydrated, our cells and organs will not be able to function properly. 3. Table Salt While our bodies require sodium to maintain proper fluid balance – especially in our electrolytes - an excess amount will cause kidneys to retain water. Too much salt can also increase the amount of protein that is eliminated in urine. 4. Caffeine Caffeine is a stimulant which millions of people depend upon every morning to help them become fully awake. But all of that caffeine in coffee, tea and sodas can jolt your kidneys into overdrive. The stimulant accelerates blood flow, which in turn increases blood pressure. Caffeine has another effect – it can lead to dehydration, just as salt can. Too much dehydration can lead to kidney stones. Most health experts recommend you drink no more than 2 cups of coffee or 3 cups of tea daily. Soda and energy drinks are beverages you may want to eliminate completely. Another source of caffeine is cocoa, which should also be consumed moderately. 5. Artificial Sweeteners Refined sugar has had a bad rap lately. That’s why companies began creating artificial sweeteners. It may sound better for our health, but they can still negatively impact kidney function. Try instead to steer away from artificial sweeteners and use stevia or honey to flavor your food and beverages. 6. Dairy Products While dairy products are an excellent source of protein, they should be consumed in moderation, especially for anyone who has kidney disease. The reason? Too many dairy products will increase calcium in urine which can lead to kidney stones. Carbonated Beverages Sodas and energy drinks are usually the chief instigator for kidney problems; they are loaded with caffeine, sugar or artificial sweeteners. They may taste better than thirst-quenching water or lemon water but they aren’t providing any health benefits for your kidneys. 8.
