Building Systematic Theology - Lesson 1: What is Systematic Theology?
Throughout the history of the church, faithful Christians have used systematic theology to communicate the teachings of our faith. Systematics has proven to be a helpful tool for expressing ideas clearly, and for organizing them in ways that increase our understanding of Scripture. At times, this approach to theology has been misused, but when employed in submission to Scripture, systematic theology provides Christians with a reliable method for understanding and teaching biblical truth. Course Goals: Explain the history and justification of systematic theology. Describe the method and uses of systematic theology. Lesson 1 compares New Testament theology with Systematic theology, surveys historical developments, and explores the values and dangers of Systematic theology. Learn more at: http://www.thirdmill.org

Love is an Ability
It’s more universal than anything, yet not everyone has the same idea of what love is exactly. In this video, Father Mike Schmitz makes a good case for why love is not a feeling but an ability. Just like any other skill, we need to learn how to do it. Simply being passionate and having strong feelings for a person is part of it, but will these emotions alone pass the test when love calls us to be selfless or to sacrifice for the one we love? Father Mike challenges us to “will the best for our beloved.” Doing this will lead us deeper into the beautiful mystery that love is. This video appeared first on http://www.ascensionpresents.com. Catechism of the Seven Sacraments Book Teaser
Catechism of the Seven Sacraments uses the classic brick toys as a storytelling and educational tool. Join hosts Fulton and Cynthia on a biblical adventure as they journey from creation to salvation and discover the importance of God’s sanctifying grace. Set in a vivid comic-book format with stunning photographs, this book makes profound theological concepts accessible to both the Catholic and the curious, the child and the adult. About the Authors: Kevin and Mary O'Neill and their seven children are the creative minds and dedicated hands behind this book. When Kevin and Mary discovered questionable interpretations in a popular brick-illustrated Bible, they took matters into their own hands and created this book with the help of their children. Using thousands of their own toy building blocks, they constructed and photographed each scene illustrating the Catholic sacraments, while weaving a biblical narrative of salvation history.

Lecture - Joseph Shulam "Simply Paul: Who is He and Who are His Opponents?"
Lecture – Joseph Shulam “Simply Paul: Who is He and Who are His Opponents?” (Joseph Shulam is a Hebrew scholar and Christian minister in Jerusalem) Given 7pm - 9pm on Saturday April 2, 2016 at The Lanier Theological Library Chapel in Houston, Texas. It is part of the Lanier Library Lecture Series. A series devoted to bringing world class lectures to benefit the community of all those who might be interested. I am indebted to the generosity of the library to allow me to share these videos of theirs. Please support them by visiting their website for more information and resources: http://www.laniertheologicallibrary.org/ Even in the first century the disciples of Yeshua (Jesus) had difficulty understanding Paul and his writings for several reasons. One reason Joseph Shulam proposes is that Paul was a lawyer and wrote like a lawyer. Also, Paul was a very religious Jew by his own confession and the audience to whom his letters were written had very little understanding of the Jewish world and Hebrew Bible. Further, Paul held to the Jewish/Pharisaic worldview of God’s program for history (past, present and future). Even the Jews had a hard time understanding Paul and his theological ideas because they were in a struggle for survival and did not see the bigger picture and solution to their problems. Shulam proposes that we allow Paul’s own words to describe himself and his background in order to define his identity and his theology in the best way and to identify his opponents most accurately. By getting Paul’s clear view of himself we can better understand his battles both inside and outside the church. This lecture will give you fresh insight into some of Paul’s most difficult passages. Bio info: Joseph Shulam was born in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1946 and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1948 just before the establishment of the State. He grew up in Jerusalem where he was introduced to the New Testament in high school. Joseph immediately identified with Yeshua, which eventually led him to faith in the Messiah. As a result, he was rejected by his family and traveled to the United States to finish high school in Georgia. He returned to Jerusalem and studied Biblical Archaeology and Bible at Hebrew University. He returned to the U.S to study New Testament and Chemistry at David Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he met his wife Marcia. They have two children and two grandchildren. In 1969 they started a congregation in Tel-Aviv. In 1972 Joseph began 3 years of rabbinical college studies, followed by more graduate study at Hebrew University. In 1981 he established the Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry and in 1982 purchased a building on Narkis Street, the first for a Messianic Jewish congregation in Jerusalem. This building was renovated and expanded with support from around the world. It was dedicated in March 2015. Joseph has lectured extensively around the world and has encouraged disciples in most European countries, as well as Finland, Bulgaria, Russia, Brazil, China, Egypt, Japan, Korea, Cyprus, Greece, and Israel, of course. Joseph has written and partnered in writing several books, including commentaries on Romans, Acts and Galatians. He also authored "Hidden Treasures: The First Century Jewish Way of Understanding the Scriptures"; "Planted in the House of the Lord" "God, Israel, and the Church"; "Starting a Messianic Jewish Yeshiva" and "Speak Tenderly to Jerusalem".

Signs of the End Times: A Catholic Perspective
Ralph Martin and Peter Herbeck, give a Catholic view of the End Times . Video Source: Renewal Ministries https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrjstBS3HXw Find Quotes and Texts mentioned in video, below: St. John Paul II, "We are now standing in the face of the greatest historical confrontation humanity has gone through. I do not think that wide circles of American society or wide circles of the Christian community realize this fully. We are now facing the final confrontation between the Church and the anti-Church, of the Gospel versus the anti-Gospel. We must be prepared to undergo great trials in the not-too-distant future; trials that will require us to be ready to give up even our lives, and a total gift of self to Christ and for Christ. Through your prayers and mine, it is possible to alleviate this tribulation, but it is no longer possible to avert it. . . .How many times has the renewal of the Church been brought about in blood! It will not be different this time. . This confrontation lies within the plans of divine providence. It is a trial which the whole Church… must take up. " – Bicentennial talk given in the United States by the future St. John Paul II, then Cardinal Karol Wojtyla of Kraków, Poland Saint Paul 2 Thessalonians 2, 2 Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our assembling to meet him, we beg you, brethren, 2 not to be quickly shaken in mind or excited, either by spirit or by word, or by letter purporting to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.[a] 3 Let no one deceive you in any way; for that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness[b][c] is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God. 5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you this? 6 And you know what is restraining him now so that he may be revealed in his time. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way.[d] 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, and the Lord Jesus will slay him with the breath of his mouth and destroy him by his appearing and his coming. 9 The coming of the lawless one by the activity of Satan will be with all power and with pretended signs and wonders, 10 and with all wicked deception for those who are to perish, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11 Therefore God sends upon them a strong delusion, to make them believe what is false, 12 so that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. Catechism of the Catholic Church: The Church's ultimate trial 675 Before Christ's second coming the Church must pass through a final trial that will shake the faith of many believers.574 The persecution that accompanies her pilgrimage on earth575 will unveil the "mystery of iniquity" in the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth. The supreme religious deception is that of the Antichrist, a pseudo-messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of his Messiah come in the flesh.576 See also CCC 676 , 677, 672 ...According to the Lord, the present time is the time of the Spirit and of witness, but also a time still marked by "distress" and the trial of evil which does not spare the Church564 and ushers in the struggles of the last days. It is a time of waiting and watching.565 See more CCC at : http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p1s2c2a7.htm More sources: Article: http://www.catholicity.com/mccloskey/final-confrontation.html Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9VSIWWp1vo Book: The Final Confrontation: The Present and Coming Trial and Triumph of the Church Paperback – 2009 by Mark Mallett (Author)

Biblical Series I: Introduction to the Idea of God
Lecture I in my Psychological Significance of the Biblical Stories series from May 16th at Isabel Bader Theatre in Toronto. In this lecture, I describe what I consider to be the idea of God, which is at least partly the notion of sovereignty and power, divorced from any concrete sovereign or particular, individual person of power. I also suggest that God, as Father, is something akin to the spirit or pattern inherent in the human hierarchy of authority, which is based in turn on the dominance hierarchies characterizing animals. Luther and the Protestant Reformation: Crash Course World History #218
In which John Green teaches you about the Protestant Reformation. Prior to the Protestant Reformation, pretty much everyone in Europe was a Roman Catholic. Not to get all great man, but Martin Luther changed all that. Martin Luther didn't like the corruption he saw in the church, especially the sale of indulgences, so he left the church and started his own. And it caught on! And it really did kind of change the world. The changes increased literacy and education, and some even say the Protestant Reformation was the beginning of Capitalism in Europe. The Seven Deadly Sins were a list of psychological flaws first identified by Christianity in the 4th century. Elemental Science Curriculum Reveal! [*EDIT below*] Earth Science & Astronomy for the Grammar Stage
[**EDIT: It actually has 36 weeks of lesson plans! I said 40, listed off 30 (I can add, promise lol) BUT I forgot to mention another 6 weeks for a Stars and Space unit! So to be clear, it has 36 weekly lessons in total :) Welcome! Today I'm sharing my new homeschool science curriculum by Elemental Science. I intend to use this for the 2017 - 2018 school year with my First grader and Kindergartner, plus whatever my other three littles are interested in doing with us. We will be using their Earth Science & Astronomy for the Grammar Stage set. It's a unit studies program, and so far I am thrilled with the layout and the many ways I'll be able to make it my own. It is a secular science curriculum, but we are Catholic so I am being careful to watch the content for anything that goes against our Catholic theology. I also believe I'll be able to add our Catholic faith quite well given the set up :) Can't wait to delve deeper into our unit studies! Please subscribe to see more of our homeschool journey! Theology in Dialogue with R.C. Sproul and Derek Thomas
On Friday, January 15, 2016, Dr. Sproul was joined by Ligonier teaching fellow Dr. Derek Thomas for a relaxed and informative evening of theology and dialogue. These notable theologians and pastors answered questions submitted through social media and from a live audience at Saint Andrew's Chapel in Sanford, FL. The topics addressed included God's nature, Islam, finding a local church, Scripture, and more. Questions: 1. Does God choose not to lie, or does His nature dictate that He cannot lie? (02:58) 2. What's the greatest challenge to biblical Christianity today? (03:19) 3. Can Christians truly have assurance of salvation? (03:51) 4. Were Adam and Eve saved? (04:31) 5. Why does the church argue against head coverings using first-century culture when Paul argues from Genesis? (05:06) 6. What is your favorite hymn and why? (07:13) 7. How did they determine approximate dates for various books in the Bible? (08:00) 8. Was the average Old Testament Jew able to gain a complete understanding of the Trinity? (10:35) 9. Do you believe that we are headed to a point in which the government will require churches to perform "same-sex" marriages? (13:10) 10. Why is wisdom personified as female? (16:10) 11. Do Muslims and Christians worship the same God? (16:50) 12. Do you believe that Christians need to do a better job of defending their faith (especially as it relates to Islam)? (19:00) 13. Is there any support for complementarianism in the creation account prior to the fall? (20:23) 14. Did Jesus, during His earthly ministry, have the ability to sin? (22:40) 15. Martin Luther - PBS Documentary - Part 1 of 2
Martin Luther - PBS Documentary - Part 1 of 2 (Part 2 of 2: at http://youtu.be/zK3iRNWUths Martin Luther OSA (German: [ˈmaɐ̯tiːn ˈlʊtɐ] 10 November 1483 -- 18 February 1546) was a German monk, Catholic priest, professor of theology and seminal figure of the 16th-century movement in Christianity known later as the Protestant Reformation. He strongly disputed the claim that freedom from God's punishment for sin could be purchased with monetary values. He confronted indulgence salesman Johann Tetzel, a Dominican friar, with his Ninety-Five Theses in 1517. His refusal to retract all of his writings at the demand of Pope Leo X in 1520 and the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V at the Diet of Worms in 1521 resulted in his excommunication by the Pope and condemnation as an outlaw by the Emperor. Luther taught that salvation and subsequently eternity in heaven is not earned by good deeds but is received only as a free gift of God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ as redeemer from sin and subsequently eternity in Hell. His theology challenged the authority of the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church by teaching that the Bible is the only source of divinely revealed knowledge from God and opposed sacerdotalism by considering all baptized Christians to be a holy priesthood. Those who identify with these, and all of Luther's wider teachings, are called Lutherans even though Luther insisted on Christian as the only acceptable name for individuals who professed Christ. His translation of the Bible into the vernacular (instead of Latin) made it more accessible, which had a tremendous impact on the church and on German culture. It fostered the development of a standard version of the German language, added several principles to the art of translation, and influenced the writing of an English translation, the Tyndale Bible. His hymns influenced the development of singing in churches.[6] His marriage to Katharina von Bora set a model for the practice of clerical marriage, allowing Protestant priests to marry. In two of his later works, Luther expressed antagonistic views toward Jews, writing that Jewish synagogues and homes should be destroyed, their money confiscated, and liberty curtailed. These statements and their influence on anti-Semitism have contributed to his controversial status.[8] Martin Luther died in 1546, still convinced of his Reformation theology, and with his decree of excommunication by Pope Leo X still effective. On his deathbed, Luther was asked, 'Are you ready to die trusting in your Lord Jesus Christ and to confess the doctrine which you have taught in his name?'. He answered, 'Yes' before taking his final breath.
