Building Systematic Theology - Lesson 1: What is Systematic Theology?

01:37:29
Throughout the history of the church, faithful Christians have used systematic theology to communicate the teachings of our faith. Systematics has proven to be a helpful tool for expressing ideas clearly, and for organizing them in ways that increase our understanding of Scripture. At times, this approach to theology has been misused, but when employed in submission to Scripture, systematic theology provides Christians with a reliable method for understanding and teaching biblical truth. Course Goals: Explain the history and justification of systematic theology. Describe the method and uses of systematic theology. Lesson 1 compares New Testament theology with Systematic theology, surveys historical developments, and explores the values and dangers of Systematic theology. Learn more at: http://www.thirdmill.org

Catechism of the Seven Sacraments Book Teaser

01:29
Catechism of the Seven Sacraments uses the classic brick toys as a storytelling and educational tool. Join hosts Fulton and Cynthia on a biblical adventure as they journey from creation to salvation and discover the importance of God’s sanctifying grace. Set in a vivid comic-book format with stunning photographs, this book makes profound theological concepts accessible to both the Catholic and the curious, the child and the adult. About the Authors: Kevin and Mary O'Neill and their seven children are the creative minds and dedicated hands behind this book. When Kevin and Mary discovered questionable interpretations in a popular brick-illustrated Bible, they took matters into their own hands and created this book with the help of their children. Using thousands of their own toy building blocks, they constructed and photographed each scene illustrating the Catholic sacraments, while weaving a biblical narrative of salvation history.

Biblical Series I: Introduction to the Idea of God

02:38:29
Lecture I in my Psychological Significance of the Biblical Stories series from May 16th at Isabel Bader Theatre in Toronto. In this lecture, I describe what I consider to be the idea of God, which is at least partly the notion of sovereignty and power, divorced from any concrete sovereign or particular, individual person of power. I also suggest that God, as Father, is something akin to the spirit or pattern inherent in the human hierarchy of authority, which is based in turn on the dominance hierarchies characterizing animals. Luther and the Protestant Reformation: Crash Course World History #218

15:07
In which John Green teaches you about the Protestant Reformation. Prior to the Protestant Reformation, pretty much everyone in Europe was a Roman Catholic. Not to get all great man, but Martin Luther changed all that. Martin Luther didn't like the corruption he saw in the church, especially the sale of indulgences, so he left the church and started his own. And it caught on! And it really did kind of change the world. The changes increased literacy and education, and some even say the Protestant Reformation was the beginning of Capitalism in Europe. Building Biblical Theology - Lesson 1: What is Biblical Theology? (Part 2 of 12)

08:23
Faithful Christians have always recognized the importance of progress in biblical history, especially as it relates to humanity's fall into sin and to God's redemptive work. Biblical theology is a specialized discipline that studies this progress by tracing the development of theological ideas between historical epochs. Used rightly, this is a helpful tool for interpreting and applying the Bible. This lesson focuses on a basic orientation toward biblical theology, the development of biblical theology through the centuries, and the interconnections between history and revelation. Bishop Barron is a #1 Amazon bestselling author and has published numerous books, essays, and articles on theology and the spiritual life, in addition to his regular YouTube videos (@wordonfirevideo). Is Courtesy Required for Catholics?

FROM ATHEIST TO CATHOLIC: THE APOLOGETICS OF IMAGINATION

01:27:05
FROM ATHEIST TO CATHOLIC: THE APOLOGETICS OF IMAGINATION Dr. Holly Ordway, professor of English at Houston Baptist University On Wednesday, October 4, 2017, Dr. Holly Ordway, professor of English at Houston Baptist University and a convert to the faith, will discuss her journey from atheism to Catholicism. Dr. Ordway once thought she was “not God’s type” -- an atheist professor hostile to Christianity -- but she discovered that following the truth led her on an unexpected journey. In this talk, she shares her journey of faith from atheism, to becoming a Protestant, to encountering the fullness of the truth in the Catholic Church. In particular, she discusses how the imagination, working through stories and poetry, played a crucial role in her conversion to Christianity as well as her later reconciliation with the Church. Her story shows what it’s like to move from outside the Faith to inside, and provides encouragement and insights for those who are involved in apologetics, evangelization, preaching, and teaching. She is the author of Not God's Type: An Atheist Academic Lays Down Her Arms (Ignatius Press, 2014).

59:48
On Friday, January 15, 2016, Dr. Sproul was joined by Ligonier teaching fellow Dr. Derek Thomas for a relaxed and informative evening of theology and dialogue. These notable theologians and pastors answered questions submitted through social media and from a live audience at Saint Andrew's Chapel in Sanford, FL. The topics addressed included God's nature, Islam, finding a local church, Scripture, and more. Questions: 1. Does God choose not to lie, or does His nature dictate that He cannot lie? (02:58) 2. What's the greatest challenge to biblical Christianity today? (03:19) 3. Can Christians truly have assurance of salvation? (03:51) 4. Were Adam and Eve saved? (04:31) 5. Why does the church argue against head coverings using first-century culture when Paul argues from Genesis? (05:06) 6. What is your favorite hymn and why? (07:13) 7. How did they determine approximate dates for various books in the Bible? (08:00) 8. Was the average Old Testament Jew able to gain a complete understanding of the Trinity? (10:35) 9. Do you believe that we are headed to a point in which the government will require churches to perform "same-sex" marriages? (13:10) 10. Why is wisdom personified as female? (16:10) 11. Do Muslims and Christians worship the same God? (16:50) 12. Do you believe that Christians need to do a better job of defending their faith (especially as it relates to Islam)? (19:00) 13. Is there any support for complementarianism in the creation account prior to the fall? (20:23) 14. Did Jesus, during His earthly ministry, have the ability to sin? (22:40) 15. Does Scripture provide hope for a child who turns away from Christ as a young college student? (25:24) 16. If the reformers like Calvin and Luther didn't state explicitly their end times views, what would be their presumed view in your eyes? (28:38) 17. Have either of you changed your eschatological views? (31:45) 18. If you had a moment with one of today's prosperity preachers, what would you say? (32:40) 19. What doctrine in the Bible do you find the most difficult to accept and why? (33:31) 20. Are both of you hopeful for another awakening in our age? (35:36) 21 In Acts 2:38 it says that baptism is for the forgiveness of sins. What do you believe about this and why? (37:49) 22. What makes a church good and how do you find one? (39:36) 23. Does the incarnation mean that God has changed in space and time from that point on? If not, why and how do we respond to the question? (43:59) 24. Did the death of Jesus accomplish anything for the non-elect? (46:31) 25. What would you say to a Christian who doesn’t believe in the inerrancy of Scripture? (48:14) 26. What is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit? (49:43) 27. Can good theology and sound doctrine become an idol? (52:53) 28. How have the truths from your series "Surprised by Suffering" been a comfort for you as you have dealt with health issues? (56:19) Note: Answers given during Questions and Answers sessions reflect the views of the individual speakers and do not necessarily reflect the views of Dr. R.C. Sproul and Ligonier Ministries. The Book of Revelation Explained in Under 5 Minutes

04:59
Please watch: "Is Hell a Place of Eternal Torment or Will Non-Christians Cease to Exist?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2moiCbLIjLU --~-- THE BOOK OF REVELATION EXPLAINED IN UNDER 5 MINUTES! Have you ever wondered what the book of Revelation is all about? INTRODUCTION: And today we are talking about the book of Revelation, a book that has several different interpretations and one that many Christians avoid reading and some are even afraid to read it. But today I want to take you through a 7-fold chronological journey through the book of Revelation. 1. Background – Rev. 1:1 a. Name – The name of the book comes from the first verse, “The Revelation of Jesus Christ” which lets us know that this book is all about the unveiling or uncovering of the person, plan and power of Jesus Christ. b. Written in 95 A.D. by the Apostle John who also wrote the gospel of John and the letters 1, 2, and 3 John 2. Letters to Churches – Rev. 2-3 a. Letters from Jesus to 7 churches in Asia minor and each church b. Each letter exposes some aspect of the churches in that day and the modern day churches c. These chapters represent the church age in which we currently live 3. Tribulation – Chapters 6-19 – The next thing that will happen is the church will be raptured and the tribulation will begin. a. This represents a 7-year period of time after the church has been raptured where God allows those who are left behind one final opportunity accept Him as Savior. b. But the catch is that , because there is no church wickedness and evil are rampant throughout this section making it very difficult for people to choose Jesus. c. The final 3 ½ years of this period are what’s called the Great Tribulation. And man it’s gonna get bad (no drinking water, painful sores, sun will get so hot it will scorch the skin of men.” 4. The Battle – 19 a. After these things there is the battle of Armageddon. It won’t be much of a battle because Satan and his armies will be severely destroyed by Jesus. b. Satan will be bound for 1000 years 5. 1000 year reign – Rev. 20:6 – This is the actual Second Coming of Jesus Christ. All Christians from all time will reign physically on earth with Jesus. Satan will be bound during this time so there will no demonic influence for 1000 years. 6. Judgments – Rev. 20:11-15 – Satan & every unbeliever who has ever lived will then stand before God and be judged for their sins and then cast into the Lake of Fire for eternal separation from God. 7. New Heaven & New Earth – Rev. 21:1 – a. Interestingly enough there are only 4 chapters in the bible where there is a perfect environment (Gen. 1-2 & Rev. 21-22). b. And so what we see here is the magnificent story of God coming full circle and God reestablishing the perfect environment that He had intended. c. The Bible says that the earth, which is decaying every day, is not fit for eternity so God will destroy this current earth and create a new heaven and a new earth where we will dwell with Him throughout all eternity. I hope this short video if nothing more will encourage you to study this book and see the awesome plan God has the future and most importantly that this book will give us as Christians the comfort in knowing that no matter how crazy things appear in this world that God was, is and always will be in complete control. Sacred Scripture Lection Divina and the Catholic Teacher

03:23
To book Jonathan click here http://beingcatholic.com.au/staff/ To find out about the Going Deeper program click here http://beingcatholic.com.au/deeper1/ In this episode I share a simple way that Catholic teachers can immerse themselves each day in sacred scripture. The life of the Catholic teacher is just so busy and each day seems to demand more and more. How can the Catholic teacher avoid burnout and cynicism? By making some time each day to be present to the Lord in the Bible is a simple way that each teacher can begin to allow God a greater access to their lives. It's a way that God can speak to each teacher. So many Catholic teachers leave the profession due to burnout and exhaustion but the tools we need to not just survive, but actually thrive are closer than we think.

Session 21 Ecclesiology / Mary (conclusion) / The Apostolic Minisitry

01:08:45
Session 21: Ecclesiology / Mary (conclusion) / The Apostolic Ministry [Ecclesiology : theology as applied to the nature and structure of the Christian Church; the study of churches, especially church building and decoration.] With this session we conclude our study of Mary and ten explore the meaning of the Apostolic Ministry and Apostolic Succession. Where did the ideas of the Immaculate Conception and the Perpetual Virginity of Mary come from? How many Apostles were there? (hint: more than 12!) Were there women Apostles? Who are bishops, priests, deacons, etc? Bishop Peter Elder Hickman of Saint Matthew Ecumenical Catholic Communion addresses these questions and many more in this very accessible material for the general interest audience. This is the 21st in a series of classes providing an introduction to Catholic Christian theology, and serves as a general introduction to those who are simply interested in, or are inquiring about, Saint Matthew church or the ECC and/or theology. This series fulfills the Systematic Theology requirements of the Permanent Deacon Formation Program for St. Cyprian School of Theology. http://www.saint-matthew.org/ http://ecumenical-catholic-communion.org/

Genesis to Jesus PART 1 OF 2

15:00
What is the Bible, where does it come from and what is its purpose? How are Catholics supposed to read the Bible and what story does it have to tell? These are the questions we take up in this "big picture" survey course. Following an introduction to Catholic teaching about divine revelation and Bible, we jump right in and begin reading. We start with the creation story and Noah's ark, and trace the history of salvation as it unfolds in the series of covenants that God makes with His chosen people - from Abraham and the twelve tribes of Israel to Moses and finally to King David. We see how this history reaches its climax and fulfillment in Jesus and the Church. The aim is to give you a solid outline and overview of the story that the Bible tells, from Genesis to Jesus.
