It's very important because our body speaks a language too and if it's not right, then we may send out the wrong message. Facial expressions Our facial expressions and our words should always match. Sometimes when we are thinking about something else and responding to someone the wrong expressions show on our face and that can create a misunderstanding. So please be careful with your facial expressions and make sure they match your words. Relaxing and being natural Especially in an interview it's important to show confidence as soon as you face or speak to the interviewer. You should sit confidently and make eye contact. Ensure that there is nothing in your hand which can cause a distraction for you or the person you are speaking with. Hand gestures Our hand gestures can express so many things without using words. We use our hands to wave, say ok, say something is nice or good, etc. For example if we want to say something is not good we show a thumbs down. Acknowledge Make sure that when you speak to someone you always show that you are listening to them by saying things like, I understand, ok, I see, etc. You could also nod your head in agreement and to show that you acknowledge. This will help the person to see that you are interested in the conversation. Posture It's important to maintain a straight posture while sitting and standing. This shows confidence. For example you shouldn't fold your arms or cross your legs while sitting. It shows that there is a barrier between you and the speaker. Voice Your voice is your best friend. One should use a polite tone to avoid sounding sarcastic or rude. Even if you use the nicest words but your tone is negative then you have lost the battle already. These are a few tips to use non verbal communication to your best and make it work for you.

A conductor doesn’t speak to his orchestra; he uses body language in an extreme manner to ensure that the strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion and keyboards understand when and how they have to play. Therefore, non-verbal communication is useful in these things, as it allows people to get in touch with one another and to understand the piece, speech and music more deeply. The ways of communicating are vital in the world and Tacconi is keen to raise awareness of this to those around her. Alan Alda doesn't want you to take "pro tips" from anyone—not even Alan Alda. When it comes to his area of expertise—public speaking and empathetic communication—there are no hacks or shortcuts; if you want to be a world-class public speaker, you have to earn those stripes through the process of deeply understanding what it is to talk, listen, and connect. Alda calls tips intellectual abstractions; it's akin to the difference between information and knowledge, between parroting a few words in French and speaking the actual language. But, when pushed by yours truly at Big Think, Alda does give up the goods (willingly—we promise no Alan Aldas were harmed in the making of this video). His best tip to become a better communicator is what he calls the three rules of three. What I would prefer is a process that transforms you so the tips take place automatically. I mean for instance, very often a tip is given: “When you're speaking to a crowd, vary the pace of your speech, vary the volume.” Well, those are two good things, but if they happen mechanically it gets to be kind of boring. Some people are encouraged when they're coached: “At this point leave where you're standing and walk over there and take a pause.” Well, maybe that makes sense in terms of how it's written; at the end of that paragraph you want to make a space before the next paragraph, but it doesn't necessarily make sense in terms of how you're talking and relating to the people you're talking with. That—relating to them—should be the source of a pause, the source of moving, because it comes out of the thought process I'm going through and it comes out of the thought process I sense you're going through. Have you understood that last part? So now I'm thinking, if you have what's the next thing that I can tack onto that that will mean something to you? And if you haven't, should I clarify it a little more? So there's a dynamic relationship between us that leads to a change in pace, to a change in volume and that kind of thing. A tip is just an intellectualization of that, which might be okay to give somebody once they've got the grounding in the ability to connect, but it ought to come out of the connection. It shouldn't be a checkbox that you tick off. So I really don’t like tips. If I'm pressed really hard there are three tips that I do kind of follow. Probably it's a good idea to follow these tips after you get used to being connected to somebody, but there are three things that I like to do, I call it the three rules of three. So the first rule is, I try only to say three important things when I talk to people. No more than three. If it's one thing that's maybe even better, but usually there's a lot to say. When I make notes on what I want to talk about, if I see I'm going on past three to four and five I start eliminating them or seeing if I can fold them into the other things. Because three things are really all I can remember and I don't work from notes when I talk to people and I advise other people not to. I never read it because reading just excommunicates you; it's not communication it's excommunication, in my view. So I can't remember more than three things, and I don't think they can remember more than three things, so what's the point of telling them stuff they're not going to remember? So I stick to three. That's rule number one of the rule of three things. The second rule is, if I have a difficult thing to understand, if there's something I think is not going to be that easy to get, I try to say it in three different ways because I think if you come in from different angles you have a better chance of getting a three-dimensional view of this difficult idea, so I try to say it three different ways. And the third tip, which I always forget, is that if I have a difficult thing that's hard to get, I try to say it three times through the talk, so that the first time you hear it you start to get used to it, the second time it's familiar and the third time you say, “Oh yeah, right. Okay.”

Teaching effective communication skills is largely ignored in society. Although we are taught to read and write, the many other ways we communicate are ignored or glossed over. Use of body language, hands, facial expressions, and tone of voice are all part of effective communication. Learning to pair all the ways we communicate honestly and openly from a young age will help children develop mutual respect toward one another and authority figures. And, ahem, most adults I know could stand to review (or learn) these principles. This charming book written by Joy Wilt and illustrated by Hergie (Ernie Hergenroeder) is from the "Ready-Set-Grow Series". I grew up with these books and was thrilled when I found this one at a thrift store. I couldn't wait to produce this video!

Let's look at some body language tips for presentations and public speaking. Non verbal communication and body language play a big role in how you come across and should be a key part how to do a killer presentation. Body Language Tips: 1. Make eye contact and smile. Be sure your eye contact is very direct. Also, smile while you connect to keep your eye contact warm. 2. Post and gestured. Be sure to not do anything like shuffle your feet, sway, etc. Just stand comfortably with your feet about shoulder width apart. Be sure to gesture from a position called a loose steeple. Keep your hands loosely clasped at about your waist and gesture naturally from there. 3. Pause and nod after key ideas. This will add emphasis and get people nodding along with you. Nodding during pauses is contagious. Try it. And from there, we'll look at some things you should do to do well and some things you shouldn't do, okay? So let's get started. So what happens in Part 1 of the IELTS? Well, first of all, the speaking Part 1 of the IELTS is for both those taking the General IELTS exam and the Academic. So whether you're taking the Academic or the General IELTS, it's the same test with the same questions. Okay. It lasts between four to five minutes. It's made up of first an introduction. So the examiner is going to introduce himself or herself. Then, you will introduce yourself. So for example, "Hi. My name is Emma. Nice to meet you." Okay, so there's an introduction. And then, the examiner is going to ask you some questions about yourself. So these questions aren't that difficult. Usually, they're about where you're from. So for example what city you were born in, where you grew up. They might be about work. So usually, the examiner, after introducing himself or herself, they will talk to you about two of these topics. Okay?" Now, the way they mark this part of the IELTS is they're looking specifically for pronunciation, okay? So can they understand what you're saying? Do you pronounce things well? They're going to be looking at fluency. So what's "fluency"? Well, do you go, "Uh, um, uh, uh" a lot during the test? Or do you speak very clearly, in a very nice rhythmic way? Do you use organizers or transitions? "First of all, secondly, finally." Do you use words like this? "Another reason." Or do you have problems speaking at a normal rate? So they look at that in fluency." Then, they mark you also on vocabulary. Do you use words like "good, bad" a lot? Those are very low-level words. Or do you use high level words that really show off your vocabulary?" The final thing you're marked on is grammar and accuracy. If you're very nervous, and you don't make eye-contact, and you look at the floor the whole time, you're not going to do well on the IELTS even if your English is pretty good. So it's very important to present yourself with confidence, okay? You want to go into that test and know you're going to do well. If you think you're going to do well, you're going to do a lot better. Okay? If you think you're going to do badly, you're probably going to do badly. So think you're going to do well, and be confident. Okay? Another important thing is be friendly. Okay. You want to smile. Body language is actually very important in the IELTS. You want to make eye-contact, okay? So don't look at your feet. Don't look at your hands. Look at the examiner. But you don't have to stare at them, okay? Just look at them when you talk.

Was to be provided as hyperlinks in Video lessons that were planned to be uploaded and sent in CDs to the Distance Education students. Don't know what happened to the ambitious plan. Anyways- the poor camera quality, the pathetic editing and the non trained teacher will all tell you why the plan failed if it did.
