Prohibition and legalization | Danica Noble | TEDxKamuela
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Danica provides a fact filled, passionate discussion about the pros and cons of legalization versus prohibition. She provides a very straight forward and composed look at the benefits of legalization of cannabis from the viewpoint of a married, female professional, non-user with a family. Her talk provides a great comparison between the prohibition of alcohol and the prohibition of cannabis. Danica Noble is the Washington Coordinator for the NORML Women of Washington and an antitrust attorney. She lives in Seattle, Washington. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

What to do on Eid day and Etiquettes of Celebrating Eid | Lailatul Jaiza the night of rewards.
What to do on Eid day and the night of rewards and Lailatul Jaiza & Etiquettes of Celebrating Eid By - Sheikh Muhammad Karim. Bismillahi Wal hamdolillahi Wassalatu Wassalamu Ala Rasoolil Kareem S A W My Dear Respect Elders, My Friends and my Brothers, Assalamu Alaykum W.W.W. Welcome to another Lesson from Dars al Yowm and in today’s lesson we are going to discuss in Brief the basic acts or actions for the Day of Eid al Fitr Now to begin with the Day of Eid is the first day of the 10th month of the Islamic calendar and the name of this Month is Shawwal. Shawwal is the first of the three months named as "Ashhur al-Hajj" (i.e. the months of Hajj). Although the major acts of Hajj are normally performed in the first ten days of Zulhijjah, yet the whole period starting from the first of Shawwal up to the 10th of Zulhijjah is held to be the period of Hajj because some acts of Hajj can be performed any time during this period. This day of Eid marks the end of the month of fasting or the month of the Quran the Month of Ramadan. The word Eid comes from the word ‘OUD meaning returning because Eid returns every year with joy and celebrations. The word Fitr basically means breaking of the fast example when we say iftaar or futoor so the name of this auspicious day is Eid al Fitr. We should wake up early on this day and try to perform Tahajjud Salaah along with other dhikr and azhkaar as this night is extremely important. The Prophet of S A W would not sleep in this in this night and he would stay awake through the whole night due to the rewards of this great night. This night is known as Laylatul Jaa iza the night of rewards, Almighty bestows his rewards on those who have spent the month of Ramadan abiding by the dictates of Shari''ah, and all their prayers in this night are accepted. Therefore, it is desirable to perform nafl prayers in this night. The Prophet, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, is reported to have said: Whoever stands up (in worship) in the nights preceding the two Eids expecting rewards from his Lord, his heart will not die when the other hearts will die. (Ibn Majah) To benefit from this opportunity, one should perform as much worship in this night as he can, and should pray for all his needs and desires we should read our Fajr in congregation in the Masjid and if we can we should remain in the masjid waiting for the Eid Salaah, whilst reciting Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar Laa ilaahaa IllAllahu wallahu Akbar Walillah hil Hamd We should if possible take a fresh bath or shower on this day and we should try to clean our Teeth with the Miswaak the Tooth stick which is strongly suggested by the Prophet s a w and it is a great Sunnah. We should dress in our best clothes and we should apply the best perfume that we have. We should pay the zakat al fitr before the Eid Salaah, this is different form he 2.5% zakat on our wealth and possessions. It is Wajib for every male to go for the Salatul Eid for every person upon whom Salaah is a Fard. The Time for the Salaah is from sunrise until Midday. The Salaah of Eid ul fitr should be delayed somewhat whilst the Salaah of the other Eid meaning Adha should be hastened. The best place to perform the Eid Salaah would be in an open area where everyone can get together in one place and pray outdoors. The only time when the Prophet of Allah s a w prayed his Eid Salaah in doors was when it was raining outside. Before leaving the house to go for the Eid Prayer we should eat something sweet preferably dates in odd numbers so either 1 or 3 or 5 and so on, remember this is Eid al Fitr the celebration of the fasting coming to an end so we should eat something showing that we are not fasting as Allah s w t has forbidden fasting on the 2 days of Eid meaning Eid al Fitr and Eid ul Adha and the 3 days of Tashreek the days following the Eid ul Adha. When we leave our homes we should take one route to the Prayer and a different route on the way back. We should be happy on the days of Eid and we should greet one another especially friends and family and neighbors, the best greeting as per the Sunna of Rasul Allah s a w is Tqabbal Allah minna wa minkum. Everything is an innovation although many of the Ulema are of the Opinion to say Eid Mubarak is not a bad thing or a negative thing and if someone greets you with Eid Mubarakl it is Wajib to respond with an equal or better greeting. One of the most important Sunnah of this Eid is to recite the Takbeer. The time for takbeer on Eid al-Fitr starts from the night before Eid until the imam enters to lead the Eid prayer. So from Maghrib Salaah to Eid salaah we should be reciting the Takbeer Allaahu akbar, Allaahu akbar, Allaahu akbar laa ilaaha ill-Allaah, wa Allaahu akbar, Allaah akbar, wa Lillaah il-hamd

The Founders of Classic Cocktails - Course 2 Lesson 06
In my mind, classic cocktails are defined as any cocktails invented 50+ years ago but is still being ordered today. A modern classic cocktail is 20+ years old and still being ordered today. Home Bartender Starter Kit: http://bit.ly/2DTOJcN Learn more at http://learn.awesomedrinks.com Vintage Cocktail Books: https://euvs-vintage-cocktail-books.cld.bz/ To understand classic cocktails is to understand cocktail creation. Those cocktail recipes that have lasted fifty years or more must have something special about them. What keeps people ordering them? The magic behind the creators and those that documented and spread the word (and knowledge) of the recipe! In this video we cover a few classic cocktail personalities that changed the history of cocktails. Jerry Thomas / 1830 – 1885 Harry Craddock / 1876 – 1963 Harry Johnson David Embury / 1886 – 1960 Donn Beach / 1907 – 1989 Victor “Trader Vic” Bergeron / 1902 – 1984 Gary “Gaz” Regan / Present Day Dale “King Cocktail” Degroff / 1948 – Present The historic personalities of the past have helped instill knowledge in our current generation of bartenders and classic cocktails. David Wonderich is one of those memorable personalities that has helped document and spread the truth behind cocktails. David is also responsible for uncovering some of the missing history on famous cocktails like the Harvey Wallbanger. He helps bartenders and historians understand how some cocktails were born and their significance in our culture. From the Tiki / Rum / Island perspective, we have folks like Jeff “Beachbum” Berry digging through archives and bartenders notes. Jeff Berry is responsible for uncovering many of the secrets to Donn Beach and Trader Vic’s success. Jeff Berry is building historically accurate accounts of the Zombie cocktail and other tiki drinks lost to history. Plus, Jeff Berry shook our hand after dinner at his restaurant Latitude 29 in New Orleans–any restaurant owner that stands at the exit to say goodbye to guests is okay in our book! Ada mentored Harry Craddock in creating the Hanky Panky cocktail. Harry MacElhone was part of the conception of the French 75, Monkey Gland and Bloody Mary. Hugo Ensslin published a 1917 book Recipes for Mixed Drinks (available here), the last book published before prohibition. Hugo’s recipe book included that of the Aviation, a very memorable cocktail recipe. ------ Support CMC: http://patreon.com/cmc Checkout our recipe E-Books: http://homecocktailmenu.com ABOUT Common Man Cocktails (CMC) Common Man Cocktails, inspired by Derrick Schommer's intimidation when opening a cocktail book, is designed to show viewers how to create some of the most common cocktails to advanced crazy cocktails and to look back at the classics of yesterday. The Progressive Era: Crash Course US History #27
You can directly support Crash Course at https://www.patreon.com/crashcourse Subscribe for as little as $0 to keep up with everything we're doing. Also, if you can afford to pay a little every month, it really helps keep the channel producing great content. In which John Green teaches you about the Progressive Era in the United States. In the late 19th and early 20th century in America, there was a sense that things could be improved upon. A sense that reforms should be enacted. A sense that progress should be made. As a result, we got the Progressive Era, which has very little to do with automobile insurance, but a little to do with automobiles. All this overlapped with the Gilded Age, and is a little confusing, but here we have it. Basically, people were trying to solve some of the social problems that came with the benefits of industrial capitalism. To oversimplify, there was a competition between the corporations' desire to keep wages low and workers' desire to have a decent life. Improving food safety, reducing child labor, and unions were all on the agenda in the Progressive Era. While progress was being made, and people were becoming more free, these gains were not equally distributed. Jim Crow laws were put in place in the south, and immigrant rights were restricted as well. So once again on Crash Course, things aren't so simple. History Lesson in Eugenics Part 1/2
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTW3tRn0-ag "During World War II the Nazis were not defeated. The German people were defeated. The Nazis just left and went underground." And it did not start with Hitler. -The elite of the world agreed with Hitler up until a certain time. Hitler made the cover of Time magazine several times. From the backlash of Hitler's failures; eugenics programs took a turn towards stealth through various means: alcohol, vaccinations, water and food supplies. -Prohibition in the United States, also known as The Noble Experiment, was the period from 1920 to 1933, during which the sale, manufacture, and transportation of alcohol for consumption were banned nationally as mandated in the Eighteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. This was hand in hand with what was occurring in Nazi Germany; Eugenicists in the States wanted the prohibition to keep the bloodlines pure. - After Germany was outright with their Eugenics program, the U.S.A. & Canada adopted a Eugenics program by stealth instead... realizing the effects of alcoholism... it was permitted to rot the masses indefinitely while making money after 1933. -Prior to this it was used as a weapon, carted in by the wagon full to native reserves in all of North America; knowing fully that the natives have little biological defense against the poison and it often led to their demise.

Tulsi Gabbard Introduces Bill to End Federal Marijuana Prohibition
Representative Tulsi Gabbard is teaming up with Rep. Tom Garrett (R) to end the federal prohibition of marijuana. They've introduced a bill that would delegate the sale and regulation of marijuana to states, and take it out of the hands of the federal government. This is a HUGE step in the right direction that—if codified—could catalyze a new wave of legalization across the country. Bipartisan Bill to End Prohibition Drops in Congress
The Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act of 2017 was introduced. If Jeff Sessions wanted us to tell Congress to change the federal position on Marijuana, this is how they would do it. But will they? A study released late last year said that Politicians only act on the will of the voters less than 10 percent of the time – but if you are a Big Donor, you get 70% of their dedication. In other words, they are not representing the People, but instead, they are representing all of those entities we always associate with Industry that Benefits from Marijuana being illegal. Big Pharma, Big Oil, Big This and Big That. Sean Spicer's Wife is a Lobbyist for Big Beer... So when you put those things together, you realize that they aren't threatening enforcement because they see it as a Public Health Threat, they see it as a Threat to their Big Donors. These shady shifty representatives of the Rich and Powerful are in CONSTANT COMMUNICATION with your so-called Representatives, and you can see their influence in the Press just by observing how Marijuana is written about by them. Marijuana Prohibition [FACTS for legalization!]
Made this in After effects cs5 2727 B.C., China begins using marijuana for Medicinal use. 1492, Christopher Columbus brings Marijuana Sativa to the new world. 1619, all settlers are required to grow Marijuana, for it is a high paying cash crop. 1795, Washington's primary crop at mount Vernan is cannabis. 1809, the Queen of Turkey gives the U.S. Marijuana as a gift. 1880, Turkish smoking parlors open up all over the northeast. 1891, Queen Victoria prescribes Marijuana to relieve menstrual cramps. 1908, Henry Ford's first Model T (his first car) is made with Hemp Plastic and runs on Hemp ethanol. 1937, Marijuana is banned in the U.S. 1942, the U.S. Military uses Marijuana as truth serum. 1965, 1 million Americans had smoked marijuana by now. 1972, 24 million. 1980's, the Reagan administration begins it's war on drugs. 1987, every 38 seconds someone was arrested for breaking the Marijuana Law. 1996, Proposition 215 passes in California, Medicinal Marijuana becomes legal. Now, Marijuana is America's NUMBER ONE cash crop, reeling in over $36 billion a year. Incase you didn't know, society has brainwashed all of you into thinking Marijuana is a drug, when it's not. Yes, it alters you. No, it's not a drug. Loratab, Xanax, Soma's, Aspirin, Tylenol, those are drugs, and drugs can KILL you. If you take more then 10 Tylenol, you are a goner. If you take more then 5 loratab, your a dumbass AND a goner. Incase you havn't noticed, Marijuana GROWS. Nothing is DONE to it. It simply grows, just like a tomato, and an apple. It grows. Have you ever heard of someone overdosing on it? No? I didn't think so. Let me, also, give you the scientific comparison of Marijuana to other things. Marijuana compared to a beer: One beer is equal to 35 grams smoked of Indica, or "Chronic" or "Funk" or "Kush" whatever you want to call it. 68 Grams of Sativa, or "regs" or "reggie" or "schwagg". You can go research that if you want too, because I have multiple times. Marijuana is also, not addicting at all. People simply enjoy it and repeat it, but I myself have recently discovered that it's not addicting. You see, I couldn't leave for a while, and I was smoking pot EVERYday 3-6 times a day, sometimes more. I quit cold turkey. I plan to start again here soon though, no worries. Anyways, enough about me, like I said, it's not addicting. It's more then 100 times healthier than a beer. It's also a lot safer then popping pills, AND smoking cigarettes. Marijuana does nothing harmful to your body, it's not like a cigarette. When you smoke it, nothing sticks to your lungs. I used to think that Resin did, but I researched it, and Resin, or the residue that marijuana smoke leaves behind, can't stick to our lungs because of what they are made of. It's not strong enough. Tar in cigarettes, however, is. Marijuana isn't a drug. If you think it is, you have successfully been brainwashed by the government, congratulations.

The Century: America's Time - 1920-1929: Boom To Bust
Part three of a 15-part series of documentaries produced by the American Broadcasting Company on the 20th century and the rise of the United States as a superpower. The 1920s ushered in an era of great social change, general prosperity, Prohibition and what historians refer to as "modernity." This episode examines these great cultural changes and their affects on the nation. The 1920s, in stark contrast to the Victorian era, "roared," as bathtub gin flowed and more and more Americans moved to urban areas. But the decade also saw limited prosperity for many, especially farmers, and the unrest and discord between the values of small town America and the rapid pace of science and technology. The optimism of the decade would end in the most severe economic depression in American history. Episode 3 presents some of the major events that shaped the decade including The Scopes Monkey Trial, Prohibition, the rise of leisure pastimes, and the impact of inventions such as the automobile, radio, movies and electricity. Free Market Solutions in Health: Prohibition or Harm Reduction?
Some public health campaigners consider good health to be irreconcilable with free market capitalism. They regard the pursuit of profit as a major cause of unhealthy consumption and view certain industries as ‘disease vectors’. Accordingly, they support political action which limits commercial speech and restricts product development. One consequence of this ‘neo-prohibitionist’ approach is that innovative products are banned under the precautionary principle. The sale of the two least hazardous recreational nicotine products - e-cigarettes and Swedish snus - cannot be sold in many countries despite growing evidence that they can play an important role in reducing smoking rates. Current proposals in Britain and the EU to regulate electronic cigarettes as medical products have highlighted the conflict between the neo-prohibitionists and the harm reductionists. Will such regulation do more harm than good? Does the Swedish model of tobacco control have more to offer than the Anglo-Saxon model? Or will safer nicotine products 're-normalise' smoking and undermine efforts to eradicate tobacco use? Speakers: Mark Littlewood (Chair) Clive Bates - former director of Action on Smoking and Health Christopher Snowdon - Director of Lifestyle Economics, IEA Katherine Devlin - President of the Electronic Cigarette Trade Association Rebecca Taylor - Liberal Democrat MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber Dr Axel Klein - Editor of 'Drugs and Alcohol Today'

Some call it the best single trick DVD every produced! Here's the deal: you borrow a normal beer or soda bottle from someone—anybody—at a bar, restaurant, party, or whatever. You grab a couple caps off the bar and give them to the participants to examine; one that will end up inside the bottle and one to cap the bottle with to keep the bottle secured. You hold the bottle in your hand, snap the cap on the bottom once, twice, and bang! It is inside. As simple as that! You immediately hand the bottle back to the person you were working with to be examined; you are totally and unequivocally clean. Believe it. It is that quick. Lighting fast. Prohibition can be done totally impromptu, completely surrounded, and it is totally visual! Seriously, watch the demo and see if you can catch it; they sure won't. They'll just sit there and look at you with their mouths wide open—totally "gob smacked" as the Scots say. "If you like wonderful, startling magic done with borrowed articles that looks super clean, Prohibition is for you! A bent cap penetrates the bottom of a capped beer bottle in a striking, visual way and everything is immediately handed out for examination. There is nothing to find! This video not only gives you every performing detail, but a scad of other ideas as well. I love doing it in the spectator's hands! Nothing is left to chance. Finally, you can watch Prohibition being performed live to see the kind of reactions it really gets. I highly - very highly - recommend this effect!" - Richard Osterlind Running Time: Approximately 50min

In which John Green teaches you about American women in the Progressive Era and, well, the progress they made. So the big deal is, of course, the right to vote women gained when the 19th amendment was passed and ratified. But women made a lot of other gains in the 30 years between 1890 and 1920. More women joined the workforce, they acquired lots of other legal rights related to property, and they also became key consumers in the industrial economy. Women also continued to play a vital role in reform movements. Sadly, they got Prohibition enacted in the US, but they did a lot of good stuff, too. The field of social work emerged as women like Jane Addams created settlement houses to assist immigrants in their integration into the United States. Women also began to work to make birth control widely available. You'll learn about famous reformers and activists like Alice Paul, Margaret Sanger, and Emma Goldman, among others.
