Using Games in the Classroom

02:32
Every game has potential for learning! Consider the educational value in some of the more popular, entertainment-focused games that your students (and you!) already enjoy at home. Of course, not all games are school-appropriate, but you can approach any game from an educational perspective. Think of games as experiences rather than instruction -- as field trips, not textbooks. It's a perspective that's as valuable for students as it is for teachers. 5 killer ESL games

03:46
5 killer games for an ESL classroom. Created by Network ESL to assist teachers in their classrooms. Network ESL has been placing teachers in China since 2002. We are the largest supplier of ESL jobs and take pride in our full support program. We believe that buy creating lesson plans and ensuring that our teachers get all the support they need we can assist them in making the most of their class. NETWORK ESL has been established in China for 13 years now and was formed with one main goal in mind: to offer teachers already in China and those that are thinking of teaching in China a comprehensive and complete service so as to ensure that the benefits and provisions outlined in teaching contracts are actually provided to the teacher whilst at the same time offer a comprehensive support network throughout our teachers' entire stay. By providing this, it was envisaged that we would achieve two things: 1. An improvement in the quality and effectiveness of oral English teaching in China, thereby accelerating the learning and English-speaking ability of students at our client schools. 2. An assurance that teachers, after being offered a support system in China ranging from lesson planning, travel assistance, and advice to guidance with everyday living, would thoroughly enjoy the experience and, thus, have fond memories of their Chinese friends and China in general. We are proud to state that we believe we have met these objectives. We remain committed to our present and future teachers and to improving the extent and quality of the services offered by The Network to ensure that all who come across The Network will have an enjoyable and rewarding experience in China.

Teaching Ethics with Games - Introduction

03:33
From Tabletop Games to the Classroom - a series of videos presented by the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics and the Derek Bok Center for Teaching & Learning, this series of videos explores ways in which we can use game design principles to create fun and effective learning experiences for our students. Games are fun and people spend lots of time of effort playing them. Is there anything that we can learn, as teachers, from games to improve our classroom activities and homework assignments? This video introduces our series and answers the question: Why games? what kind of educational benefits can game design principles offer? In this video: Tomer Perry, Research Associate, Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics, Harvard University Noelle Lopez, Learning Lab Fellow, Derek Bok Center for Teaching & Learning, Harvard University Music: From the Free Music Archive "Deep Window" by Citofono http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Citofono/

Teacher Sam English Camp Games. Days of the week, Activities. ESL games and lesson plans.

02:00
Join this Facebook group: ฝรั่งสอนภาษาอังกฤษให้คนไทย Farang teaches English to Thai people https://www.facebook.com/groups/FarangSamEnglish/ Teacher Sam's English Camp Games เกมส์ภาษาอังกฤษของครูแซมที่ค่ายภาษาอังกฤษ. Today's topic is "Days of the week" (Class of 19 students). หัวข้อของวันนี้คือ "วันของสัปดาห์" Kids love to race each other. In this game they practice speaking about activities and practice listening for days of the week. 1. Split the class into two teams. Give 7 students from each team a coloured ball. Each colour means a day of the week. Yellow = Monday, Pink = Tuesday, Green = Wednesday, Orange = Thursday Blue = Friday, Purple = Saturday, Red = Sunday. 2. The teacher asks one student "What day do you (say any activity)?" e.g. "What day do you go swimming?" 3. All students with balls must listen carefully. The student says any day at random. e.g. "Monday" 4. One student from each team with a yellow ball (for Monday) must quickly run around the circle in a clockwise direction until they get back to their chair. 5. First student back to their chair gets 1 point. 6. The winning teams is the one with the most points after a set time or first to 10 points wins. 7. After a student has run around they should give their ball to a student that doesn't have a ball, so that they can take part in the game. Game 2 1. Write on the board, the days of the week with activities next to them e.g Monday - Swimming, Tuesday - Fishing, Wednesday - English class.... 2. The teacher say "Today I am (choose an activity from the board)" e.g. "Today I am going fishing" 3. Student must quickly check on the board, what day do I go "fishing". In this case Tuesday. So one student from each team with pink balls (for Tuesday) runs around the circle and the first student back to their chair gets 1 point. ***Alternatively instead of running, students could throw the ball into a basket in the middle of the circle. They can throw the ball as many times as they need but must always throw from their chair. First student to get the ball in the basket gets 1 point. How to teach Kids | from a Prague kindergarten, part 1 | English for Children

19:53
How to manage 15+ Czech five year old kids in your classroom, if you only speak English? It´s easy, no worries. You need a clear and structured lesson plan, you need to be a leader and you need to show a big warm smile. Use body language too and you will succeed. Children love to be surprised, entertained, they love physical activities and once you do all of it, you can introduce and drill any language you like, even comparatives.

Make Up Your Number ESL kids game - English Language Games

02:41
Find this game and many more in my book "ESL Games for Kids - Proven Ideas for Teaching English Through Listening Exercises, Fun Activities and Games" http://amzn.to/1b2HblS DAY 7 - Spread out the numbers 0 to 9 on the floor (use big foam numbers if you can or if not just writing the numbers on a piece of paper will do just fine) Then give one of the numbers to a kid and tell them to go make a certain number that you call out. For. Ex. If a kid has #1 then you could tell them to go make #13 and the'd have to find the 3 and put the 1 in front of it. Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/englishlanguagegames Twitter: http://www.twitter/ESLchildren Website: http://www.EnglishLanguageGames.ORG Are you an ESL teacher looking for some fun English language games to use in your ESL beginners class? I was too a few years ago and I was all on my own so I started creating English teaching materials that would make learning English FUN and exciting Hi! My name is Karlee Demierre but my kids know me as "Teacher Karlee"! I'm Canadian but for the past 3 years I have been living in the cute tropical beach town of Trujillo, Honduras. In 2012, My husband and I miraculously created an English Language school in 2 weeks ...which I like to refer to it as "The Gongshow" (Read the story on my site: http://www.englishlanguagegames.org/english-language-games/dream-come-true/ ) I've now been teaching English as a Second Language full time for a year at my school and absolutely love it! I teach 2 year old kids all the way up to adults, from the very basics to beginner to intermediate. This all began because I had been teaching an ESL beginners class to kids in Trujillo, Honduras for 2 years. Most ESL children's classes have between 4 to 20 kids... well I threw myself in a classroom of 30 to 40 "untamed" pre-school and kindergarden kids! (just to prove my sanity... I even volunteered!!) With no curriculum, no lesson plans, no previous experience and no guidance, I was on my own diving into this fun adventure called teaching English as a Second Language! The best part was that during this "adventure of mine", I discovered that teaching kids was truly my life's passion! A few years ago, I started to search online to get some ideas and I soon discovered that there wasn't much available that would keep these kids engaged, encourage them to participate in class and overall really learn English. So I started creating English language games and other English teaching materials that would engage my kids, accelerate their learning and really make learning English FUN for them! My mission is that these English language games will spark participation and ignite learning in your ESL beginners class. My goal is to give you some English teaching materials that will make it easy for you to teach ESL children and make it FUN for the kids to learn English! So I'm setting out to share my JOY with the world and I hope these English teaching materials and other ideas I share will help bring more LAUGHTER and PARTICIPATION to your ESL children's class and all the kids you LOVE! ... keep PLAYING and LEARNING! Teacher Karlee :-)

The Prepositions Class Game -- How To teach Prepositions

12:14
An exciting game using simple, everyday objects to help students practice using prepositions of location in English. How to play: Make sure students have adequate knowledge of the items used (0:21) as well as the prepositions used (1:21). Place a table and a chair at the front of the classroom and leave plenty of space for movement around them. Select one student from each team (A and B). Have the student from team A stand near the table and the student from team B stand near the chair. Put the objects listed at the start of the video in front of the students on the floor so they can reach them easily. Have the two students listen to the voice recording (e.g. “The ball is on the chair. The ball is under the table.”) and let them compete to see who can be the first to put the object in the correct place according to the instructions. The team whose instruction is read first will have the advantage, but this changes every round. Award one point for correctly placing the object according to the instructions and one bonus point to the faster of the two students to place the object correctly. If only one student places the object correctly, give him or her 2 points. No points are awarded for incorrect placements. Continue until all the students in the class have had a turn and/or all 13 rounds have been completed.
