10 Warning Signs Your Pet Is Crying for Help

10:03
In case you love your pets and want to take good care of them and keep them healthy, pay attention to even the slightest changes in their behavior and take necessary measures immediately. For the sake of your pets and to protect them, keep an eye out for these 10 warning signs your pet needs help. There's a cough-like sound you might hear from time to time in smaller breeds of dogs and cats. This is called reverse sneezing, and it can indicate a slight throat irritation. It typically goes away on its own as well. But persistent coughing or reverse sneezing that lasts for more than 2 weeks is never a normal thing. It may be related to heart or lung disease, heartworm, bronchitis, pneumonia, or a tracheal collapse. Although a distended abdomen could simply be a sign that your pet has eaten too much, it can also indicate a digestive disorder, peritonitis, hormonal imbalance, or even internal bleeding. A swollen belly in dogs can also be a symptom of an extremely dangerous condition called Gastric-Volvulus. If left untreated, this problem can turn out fatal for a dog within hours. Chocolate is highly toxic for pets, usually resulting in theobromine poisoning. If you think your pet might’ve gotten into some chocolate, take it to the vet immediately. Dogs occasionally lick strange surfaces if they’re having some gastrointestinal issues. Licking behavior in cats is often provoked by mental health issues like boredom, anxiety, or OCD. If your cat or dog urinates too little or has troubles with the process, it may be suffering from bladder stones or a urinary tract infection. These problems are extremely painful and potentially life-threatening. If you notice your pet constantly scratching its ears to the point that the hair is coming off, take it to the vet right away. Laboratory testing will pinpoint if it’s parasites, hormonal issues, or some sort of yeast or fungal infection. Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS Coughing 0:53 Vomiting 2:02 A swollen belly 3:02 Lethargy 4:26 Abnormal restlessness 4:46 Unexplained weight loss 5:31 Excessive licking 6:21 Urinating more or less frequently 7:13 Hair loss or itching 8:22 Lack of appetite 8:54 SUMMARY -Kennel cough can be more serious for puppies, kittens, and breeds with pushed-in faces because their face shape may cause additional breathing difficulties. -Vomiting can stem from gastrointestinal illnesses, pancreatitis, kidney disease, or parasitic infections. Blood in the vomit is a major red flag that could indicate your pet has gulped down a sharp object that’s irritating its stomach. -Undiagnosed abnormal swelling in the stomach could potentially be life-threatening as it puts additional pressure on the chest cavity and makes it hard for your dog or cat to breathe. -Weakness or lethargy in dogs and cats usually accompanies all kinds of infections and serious diseases like diabetes, hypoglycemia, and anemia. -If your dog or cat is being anxious or looks scared for no reason and is constantly pacing, shaking, or whining, this can point to a range of health issues including mange, rabies, Cushing's disease, or heart problems. -If your dog or cat has lost 10% of its normal body weight, it could be a sign of a serious issue, such as a metabolic disorder, kidney or liver problems, neuromuscular disease, or cancer. -The most common reason why your cat or dog is excessively cleaning the same spot could be from pain or itching caused by fleas or an allergy. -If your pet is peeing more frequently than it used to, it can be a sign of diabetes. -If your cat or dog starts losing hair on or around its ears, this can be a sign of fleas, ticks, ear mites, or mange. -If your pet hasn’t touched their food for more than 24 hours, it can be a sign of stress, pain, or fever. Science Explains How Much Sleep You Need Depending on Your Age

09:21
How to Get Enough Sleep for Your Age. People usually think that 7–8 hours of sleep is enough, but that's not always the case. In fact, the number of hours you need to enjoy proper sleep depends and stay healthy depends on your age. Follow some simple rules to restore energy and get the most out of your recharge time. What happens when you experience a lack of sleep 1:09 If you constantly feel sleepy, are easily irritated, feel exhausted during the day, or often yawn, you most likely suffer from sleep deprivation. Not getting enough sleep also increases the risk of developing the following problems and diseases: exhaustion, depression, changes in hormone function, cardiovascular diseases, visual impairment, and diabetes. How much sleep is needed for your age 3:44 Scientists have established the connection between age and the required number of hours a person needs to have a good night’s sleep. Newborns 0–3 months old need about 14–17 hours of sleep daily. If you're the parent of a 1- or 2-year-old toddler, make sure they sleep for no less than 11–14 hours every day. Kids from 6 to 13 years old still need more sleep than adults: 9–11 hours. Young adults of 18–25 years old need less sleep: just 7–9 hours every day. The same can be said about adults between 26 and 64 years of age: 7–9 hours are enough for them to rest. Elderly people older than 65 sleep even less: 7–8 hours a day. Each person has individual needs, which may change these numbers. People who are sick, stressed, or, on the contrary, extremely active need more sleep to recharge. How to get enough sleep and feel refreshed every day 5:36 Fall asleep and wake up at the same time every day. A fixed schedule will regulate your body clock. Don't overeat, have tonic drinks before bed, and avoid cigarettes and alcohol. Create a cozy and comfortable atmosphere in your bedroom. The temperature in the room shouldn't be higher than 75ºF. A short walk in the fresh air before going to bed will help you fall asleep more quickly. Try not to use gadgets before going to bed, and turn off electrical appliances at night. Even if you aren't tired, you still need to go to bed at the same time every day. If you're lucky, you'll fall asleep after a short while. Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS Lack of sleep 1:09 Age and sleep 3:44 Sleep improvement 5:36 SUMMARY -Being sleep deprived negatively affects the quality of future bouts of sleep. Not getting enough sleep weakens your immune system and can have serious consequences. Your emotional state can also be affected by a lack of sleep. -Scientists have established the connection between age and the required number of hours a person needs to have a good night’s sleep. The older a person is, the smaller amount of sleep recovery they need. -Fall asleep and wake up at the same time every day. Don't overeat or have tonics at night. Choose a comfortable bed and quality bedding. Try not to use gadgets before going to bed, and turn off electrical appliances at night. Avoid naps if you have problems with sleep. BIPOLAR DISORDER vs BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER - Mental Health with Kati Morton

06:17
The differences between bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder can be hard to see sometimes. In today's video I talk about the differences, boiling it down to bipolar being more about episodic mood fluctuations and BPD being more consistent and pervasive. BPD, along with all other personality disorders, it must be deeply ingrained and affect our interpersonal relationships. It is also important to note that you can have BPD and bipolar disorder at the same time. The only caveat to that is that BPD must not be diagnosed while struggling with an untreated bipolar episode. The reason for that is so that we can tell where the symptoms are coming from and ensure a proper diagnosis. I know that there are still going to be questions about these diagnoses, but that's why we see professionals! You should not have your own DSM, that will only make things more unclear for you. It is important to see a mental health professional, be properly assessed and diagnosed. I hope you found this helpful! 8 Signs You're Suffering from Depression Without Knowing It

11:31
How to understand you're suffering from depression? How to get rid of depression which is a serious health condition that can’t be ignored? Depression is a serious matter that, unfortunately, doesn’t get talked about enough. Simply feeling a little sad can make us think that we're depressed, but that's not always the case…or is it? Let's find out what signs are hinting that you might actually be suffering from “the plague of the 21st century”. How to recognize depression? 0:54 The most common signs of depression are the following: you constantly feel down and tired. Your self-esteem has hit rock bottom. You have concentration and memory problems and troubles sleeping. Your weight changes, it can go either way: you all of a sudden gain several pounds or your weight drops drastically. Nothing, including your favorite food, TV show, video game, or even meeing up with your besties, brings you pleasure. You experience mood swings, and you can suddenly become extremely short-tempered with a lack of basic tolerance. Your health deteriorates. It's really common for depressed people to suddenly start experiencing aches and pains, most frequently in the joints or back. If at least 3 to 4 signs hit home for you, it most likely means that you have some form of depression. Basically, the more signs you’re showing, the more depressed you are. How to make it better? 7:34 The first thing you have to do is go to the doctor. According to psychotherapist Sean Grover, there are steps you can take in three areas of your life to make your mental state better. The first thing to take care of is your body. Start doing 30-minute workouts at least 3 times a week, get at least 7 hours of sleep a night, and add more of your favorite foods to your diet, especially sugary ones. The second and equally important part is your mind. Try to explore the world around you as if you never have before. Finally, your spirit should also get a dose of treatment too. The best thing you can do here is meditation. Through it, you can learn to understand and listen to yourself on a deeper level. Music: High Tension by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Artist: http://audionautix.com/ TIMESTAMPS You constantly feel down and tired 0:54 Your self-esteem has hit rock bottom 1:44 You have concentration and memory problems 2:44 You have troubles sleeping 3:33 Your weight changes 4:19 Nothing brings you pleasure 5:05 You experience mood swings 5:52 Your health deteriorates 6:47 Steps you can take to make it better 7:34 How to prevent depression 9:38 SUMMARY -When you start feeling hopeless and don't wanna get out of bed for days, that's where it gets into dangerous territory. -You’ll constantly dwell on your past failures, and your mind will be flooded with memories of every stupid mistake you’ve ever made. -You start forgetting about important things and have trouble remembering names or other details. -You have no energy and feel like you could spend the whole day in bed. -Your weight can go either way too: you all of a sudden gain several pounds or your weight drops drastically. -You’re constantly bored, tired, and have no desire to do your life-long hobby or meet up with your best friend. -When you're depressed, you constantly feel sad, anxious, or irritated and you probably can’t even explain why. -Emotional outbursts and a constant feeling of hopelessness throw not only your weight out of whack but your overall health too. -Take good care of your body and mind. Try to explore the world around you as if you never have before. Your spirit should also get a dose of treatment too with meditation. -“Seasonal depression” can be treated with natural substances. Experts also recommend to start seeing a doctor earlier and doing it regularly. Do you have any methods of your own on how to fight depression? Tell us in the comments below! This suggestion, the result of recent ground-breaking research, is investigated in the two films that comprise A Mind To Crime. The Dangerous Few examines the surprising claim from the USA that it is possible to identify children as young as four year’s old as potential criminals. Often prone to violence and stealing, children who suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) have been found to have brain abnormalities consistent with those who turn to crime. Controversial treatments being developed are also revealed. Violent Minds, the second film, examines the brain abnormalities that affect different types of criminal, as well as investigating the links with drugs and the possibilities of brain damage inflicted before birth. Try Online Counseling: http://tryonlinetherapy.com/katimorton If you are struggling, consider an online counseling session with a licensed professional at BetterHelp. They offer a cost friendly alternative to traditional therapy. I hope you all find this helpful and gives you hope for finding the support you need at a price you can afford. Thank you to BetterHelp for sponsoring this video! Borderline Personality Disorder, Self-Harm and Eating Disorders. In this video I talk about their relationship. Many of the symptoms of BPD lead us to acting out in SH or ED. Many of you will find that you can associate with some of these symptoms, but remember that you must be properly diagnosed by a medical professional and exhibit at least 5 of the symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). If you have been diagnosed with BPD the best thing for you to do is to purchase a Dialectical Behavior Therapy workbook (I recommend a good one on my website in the Amazon books section at the bottom of all my pages) and also I recommend that you find and join a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBP) group in your area. These inner experiences often cause them to take impulsive actions and have chaotic relationships. Causes, incidence, and risk factors The causes of borderline personality disorder (BPD) are unknown. Genetic, family, and social factors are thought to play roles. Risk factors for BPD include: Abandonment in childhood or adolescence Disrupted family life Poor communication in the family Sexual abuse This personality disorder tends to occur more often in women and among hospitalized psychiatric patients. Symptoms People with BPD are often uncertain about their identity. As a result, their interests and values may change rapidly. People with BPD also tend to see things in terms of extremes, such as either all good or all bad. Their views of other people may change quickly. A person who is looked up to one day may be looked down on the next day. These suddenly shifting feelings often lead to intense and unstable relationships. Other symptoms of BPD include: Fear of being abandoned Feelings of emptiness and boredom Frequent displays of inappropriate anger Impulsiveness with money, substance abuse, sexual relationships, binge eating, or shoplifting Intolerance of being alone Repeated crises and acts of self-injury, such as wrist cutting or overdosing Signs and tests Like other personality disorders, BPD is diagnosed based on a psychological evaluation and the history and severity of the symptoms. Treatment Many types of individual talk therapy, such as dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), can successfully treat BPD. In addition, group therapy can help change self-destructive behaviors. In some cases, medications can help level mood swings and treat depression or other disorders that may occur with this condition. Expectations (prognosis) The outlook depends on how severe the condition is and whether the person is willing to accept help. With long-term talk therapy, the person will often gradually improve. 10 Founders of Famous Brands Who Don’t Usually Show Their Faces

08:23
Some founders of world-famous brand prefer to stay out of the spotlight and keep themselves a secret. We decided to unveil the mystery and show you the 10 founders of super famous brands producing things you sure use every now and then. Howard Schulz, founder of Starbucks, was inspired by the atmosphere of Italian espresso bars and it’s safe to say that he was the one who made the espresso-based beverages popular in the US. Now you can find a Starbucks almost anywhere in the world. Amancio started his business in the ’70s: He made nightgowns and bathrobes with his wife right in their living room. Once, their German partner declined a huge order and the spouses decided to sell clothes on their own. Later, the company was renamed to Inditex and opened new clothing stores: Massimo Dutti, Pull and Bear, Oysho, Zara Home, Uterqüe, Stradivarius, Lefties, and Bershka. In 2000, the famous Pandora charm bracelet was created: buyers were able to create jewelry of their own design by putting the charms they wanted on the bracelet. Since then, the company has been growing and the Enevoldsen family are one of the richest people in Denmark. In 1969, the musicians from The Doors were recording the album Morrison Hotel. At about the same time, they accidentally came across a diner named Hard Rock Cafe, and their album was exactly in this music style. They made a few pictures in this cafe and then put the photos on the back side of the album cover. A year later, 2 Englishmen called them — Isaac Tigrett and Peter Morton and asked them to let them open a cafe in London named Hard Rock Cafe. At the beginning of the 1930s, Ole Kirk opened a company that made ironing boards and ladders, but he soon started making wooden toys. The word “Lego” consists of 2 Danish words: “leg” (play) and “godt” (good). In 1933, Rene founded a company that made shirts for tennis, golf, and sailing. -Lego was founded by Ole Kirk Christiansen in early 1930s, and its name literally translates as “play good”. -Google was created by 2 students from Stanford University — Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Cara Delevingne on Depression

08:45
Emma Stone on Anxiety: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EqDJU-b4Wk Cara Delevingne's Powerful Life Advice on Overcoming Depression and Anxiety Cara Delevingne speaks about her battle with depression - Women in the World summit (October 2015). She quickly became one of the most coveted faces in fashion, but Cara Delevingne was grappling with hidden sorrows. Now, she has a new career and an important message for her fans. At just 23 years old, Delevingne has lived out many of her formative years in the spotlight. After being featured in a Burberry campaign in 2011, she became one of the most coveted faces in the fashion industry. She recently launched her film career, and regularly broadcasts snippets of her life to millions of social media followers. But when she sat down in a conversation with actor Rupert Everett at the Women in the World Summit on Friday, Delevingne was nervous. She began the conversation by peeling off her black stilettos. “Sorry, I had to take my shoes off, ’cause I’m bloody scared,” she said. Then she read a poem: Who am I? Who am I trying to be? Not myself. Anyone but myself. Living in a fantasy to bury the reality … Full to the brim with fake confidence. Delevingne wrote these words about a year ago when she was feeling deeply depressed. She told Everett that she has grappled with her mental health since she was a teenager, when she “wanted the world to swallow me up, and nothing seemed better to me than death.” At 17, Delevingne left school and decided to start modeling. It was an escape route that ultimately offered little solace. “The thing with models is you get used,” Delevingne said. “I saw a lot of misuse from photographers, perverse photographers, to young girls … Poor girls who don’t stand up for themselves because they feel like you should be used, because that’s what models do.” From an outsider’s perspective, Delevingne’s rise to fame was quick, glamorous, and sensational. She posed for everything from Burberry and Chanel, to Topshop and Mango. She also won millions of social media fans (four million on Twitter and 20.6 million on Instagram, to be exact) by being openly and gloriously weird. Often, Delevingne would post pictures of herself in what is now her signature pose: eyes crossed, tongue lolling. She appeared in public in animal onesies and beanies that read “Homies” in the style of the Hermes logo. With her bushy brows and eternal goofiness, Delevingne proved to be an irresistibly refreshing face on the fashion scene, normally so stuffy and aloof. Internally, however, Delevingne was struggling. She was exhausted and overworked. Perhaps as a direct consequence, she began to develop a condition called psoriasis, which caused welts to sprout up across her body. “At that time, I really wanted someone to stop me,” she said. “And no one did.” “Would you have listened to them?” Everett asked. “Yes!” Delevingne exclaimed. It was supermodel Kate Moss who ultimately advised Delevingne to slow things down. And so Delevingne took some time off to write, practice yoga, and relax. When she returned to work, she decided to switch tracks and pursue a passion that had been fomenting since she was a child: acting. Delevingne recently appeared in Paper Towns, an adaptation of the novel by Fault in Our Stars Author John Green. She has five more high-profile films coming out within the next year, including the highly-anticipated Suicide Squads with Jared Leto and Will Smith. But the transition from fashion to film was not an easy one. Delevingne told Everett that certain actors insisted on seeing her audition tapes prior to shooting because they did not believe she would be able to carry a scene. “When I got my first audition that I cared about, I cried my eyes out,” Delevingne said. “Because I never thought anyone would take me seriously.” Now that she is settled more comfortably into her career, Delevingne hopes to act as a source of support for the young women who look up to her. “I have so many messages just for young girls about how mental illness and depression is not something to be afraid of,” she said. “And also, women are great. They’re wonderful, wonderful creatures. Women are the bearers of life.” When fans tell her they want to be a model, Delevingne now suggests they “dream bigger. Go for president.” As the discussion wound down, Delevingne interjected with one last piece of advice. “Be comfortable in your own shoes,” she said, and then looked down at her bare feet with a grin. “Which apparently I’m not. Because you’re going to be in them for a while.”

The 5 Faces of Borderline Personality Disorder

12:46
How to deal with people that have a borderline personality disorder. And more inside information for people who struggle with BPD. From the abandoned child to the healthy adult and everything in between. The books I briefly showed you are the following ones: - Reinventing Your Life: by Jeffrey Young, Ph.D. and Janet Klosko, Ph.D. - Schema Therapy for Borderline Personality Disorder: by Hannie van Genderen & Arnoud Arntz The conversation took a long time to record. First, I recorded the red part. I was expressing myself while talking to a wall :) But the emotions are real, i'm not 'acting'. This is what I mean when i'm talking about 'looking at yourself objectively' (neutral) in my other videos. Later on you can watch yourself and analyze your own behavior. I hope everyone is doing well !! Love, Bas

Mental: A History of the Mad House

59:06
This documentary tells the fascinating and poignant story of the closure of Britain's mental asylums. In the post-war period, 150,000 people were hidden away in 120 of these vast Victorian institutions all across the country. Today, most mental patients, or service users as they are now called, live out in the community and the asylums have all but disappeared. Through powerful testimonies from patients, nurses and doctors, the film explores this seismic revolution and what it tells us about society's changing attitudes to mental illness over the last sixty years. --- This fascinating documentary – part of a BBC season on the subject – looks at Britain’s history of mental health care. From frontal lobotomies to care in the community, Mental: A History of the Madhouse tells the story of the closure of Britain’s mental asylums. They’re a grizzly reminder of a time when ‘out of sight, out of mind’ was the mantra for tackling the nation’s mental health issues. But as part of its season on mental health, the BBC has revisited Britain’s asylums to look at how we used to treat the issues that face up to one in four people. In the post-war period, 150,000 people were hidden away in these vast Victorian institutions. Institutions like High Royds Hospital, near Leeds, which forms the basis of this programme. High Royds with its Gothic clock tower and endless corridors, looks like the stuff of nightmares, built to keep out of sight those deemed to be out of their minds. But mental health care in the UK has changed, and today the asylums have all but disappeared as attitudes towards these issues have softened. Built around testimonies from patients, doctors and psychiatric nurses, the film explores the seismic shift in mental health care over the last sixty years. Mental: A History of the Madhouse tackles some heavyweight subject matter and is anything but light evening viewing. However, it does an admirable service to the issues at hand and offers an insightful exploration of a subject that is all too often ignored.
