Excision of upper and lower xanthelasma

Although the books always say that lipids and cholesterol should be checked in patients with xanthelasmas, I think that I have yet to detect anyone who has markedly abnormal levels. Incorporating the upper lid excision into a blepharoplasty gives a nice result. There are some xanthogranulomatous diseases (e.g. Erdheim-Chester) that are associated with xanthelasmas, and I always keep that in mind in any patient with a xanthelasma. Usually the lesions associated with xanthogranulomatous disease look a little different than the typical xanthelasma. Xanthelasma removal treatment by CO2 laser

03:12
Xanthelasma (white spots around the eyes), a common cosmetic issue of generally after 4th decade of life. It is often associated with high circulating blood cholesterol levels or disorders of lipid metabolism. Hence if you have any evidence of xanthelasma, we advise you to seek the help of your doctor. Interestingly these are more common in females than in males. Conventionally this is removed surgically by eye specialists, but results are variable. We at Renew Skin and Health Clinic have oculoplastic surgeons to remove this too, but for smaller lesions, we prefer CO2 laser vaporisation of Xanthelasma. The client in the video is a 45 yrs old lady who had extensive lesions on both upper and lower eyelids and underwent a staged procedure. In the first stage, we vaporised one lesion from R upper eyelid and this time (6 weeks later) the identical one from the left upper eyelid.

Removing Xanthelasma on the Upper and Lower Eyelids

This patient has Xanthelasma Palpebrarum (Xanthelasma, for short). It is the most common type of xanthoma, occurs on the upper and/or lower eyelids, and are described as soft, chamois colored or yellowish orange bumps. They tend to increase in number, can get larger over time, and are permanent unless they are surgically removed as you see here. It can be seen in people with high cholesterol levels, so when someone has such growths, we usually make sure that their cholesterol levels are normal and under control. Here I do what is called a "pinch excision". Eyelid skin is the thinnest skin on the entire body, and after local anesthesia, as long as there is some laxity in the skin, the areas to be removed can be grasped and lifted up with forceps and clipped off with very sharp scissors, as you see here. Then the edges are closed with suture. In fact, sometimes the areas are not sutured closed, but allowed to "heal secondarily" and the cosmetic result is often excellent. Unfortunately, complete removal of the lesions does not guarantee that a person won't develop new ones in the future. In this case, this lovely patient of mine has had removal of xanthomas by me in the past, quite a few years ago. She has had news ones come up, and returned for another removal session, and was so nice to allow me to record the surgery! Thank you for watching!! This problem does not cause pain or itching, but it may impede vision if the bump grows large enough. Plus, it can be a signal of future coronary artery disease. A 2013 study published in BioMed Research International reports that a good number of cases of xanthelasma palpebrarum are combined with smoking, central obesity, hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia, which are the major risk factors for coronary artery disease. As the affected area is normally very close to the eyes, surgery is not a recommended treatment. Plus, surgery can lead to scarring, which can be as upsetting as the appearance of the bump itself. Laser treatment is another possibility, but also carries the risk of scarring. It is important to find out the cause of your xanthelasma and plan the treatment accordingly. For instance, if the cause is high cholesterol in the blood, you need to take steps to reduce your cholesterol level. In the meantime, these home remedies can help minimize the appearance of or even remove the bumps. Here are the top 10 ways to get rid of cholesterol deposits around your eyes.

However, it’s typically a sign that you’re at a higher risk for heart disease, a heart attack or stroke. Why & Who And this is because people who get these “cholesterol deposits”, typically have high levels of cholesterol and an imbalance your lipid levels. These bad cholesterols cause blockage in some oil glands underneath the skin and results in hard little “pimples” (Xanthelasma), which cannot be squeezed. Additionally, elevated liver enzymes or liver disease, cause an increase in cholesterol leading to Xanthelasma. How To Fix & Treat It Unfortunately, these cholesterol deposits usually won’t go away on their own and typically will GROW over time. One way to fix it is to go to your doctor and have them removed with topical medicine, laser or surgery. Unfortunately, they can cause side-effects such as scars and skin color changes. However, this doesn’t prevent FUTURE growth or regrowth, especially due to your genetics and having high cholesterol levels. I mention this because as stated earlier, my aunt’s husband used to have Xanthelasma and even though we improved his diet, it didn’t fix this problem initially. And taking cholesterol lowering drugs actually made things even worse due to the liver stress and toxicity. What Did Work So, here’s how we finally got rid of the Xanthelasma. Before doing anything medical, I wanted to FIRST see if we can decrease the size of these cholesterol deposits. This way, there will be less potential for scarring. I made sure his diet was healthier. I removed all alcohol because of the liver stress and reduced any processed foods and sugars. He was already walking 2-3x weekly, but I had him increase it to daily walks I increased his water intake, which basically meant going from only 1-2 glasses to 4-6 cups daily. I had him take high dosages of specific herbs and vitamins to lower his cholesterol and bad lipids. While also cleansing and detoxing his liver. After 6 months, the size of these deposits were about ½ the size, which was great. But, they never got smaller. He then went to his dermatologist and used laser to remove what was left. Since they were smaller, there was no scarring. And because of his cleaner diet and continued use of supplements, his cholesterol is lower and has remained in a healthy range. Another important benefit is that his liver is healthier as well. And the best part is that these cholesterol deposits have NEVER come back and it’s been over 6 years. Home Remedies for Cholesterol Deposits Around the Eyes

Home remedies for cholesterol deposits around the eyes Do you have yellowish grains around the eyes, especially near the upper eyelids of the inner corners of your eyes? That is a condition known in the field of medicine as xanthelasma. The lumps may appear as if they are filled with pus or any other type of yellow dirt, but they are actually cholesterol deposits. Xantelasma is not something that could endanger your health, but it can surely ruin your appearance. However, it is important to keep in mind that the presence of these embarrassing lumps usually indicates high levels of LDL (low density lipoprotein) or bad cholesterol within you. There are also cases where it is caused by genetic factors, problems with the liver, diabetes and a handful of other medical conditions. The good news is that xanthelasma is a cosmetic problem that can be treated surgically. A procedure that involves the use of lasers is also an option. However, both solutions to those unsightly growths around your eyes may have certain risks, such as scars. In addition, the cost of these procedures may not fit the average pocket. Fortunately, there are many home remedies that have proven to be effective for many people suffering from xanthelasma. Before you review them, it is a good idea to opt for a low cholesterol diet to help reduce your body's cholesterol levels. This has worked for many of those with xanthelasma. So, without further ado, there are some tips to get rid of those unattractive cholesterol deposits: Garlic One of the most popular and undoubtedly effective home remedies for xanthelasma is garlic. Just peel a clove of spicy grass. Cut it in half and begin to rub gently on pimple-like growths. You may feel a slight burning sensation, but that is normal. Repeat for a few days. Onions Like garlic, onions are very good at making those blister-like growths disappear. Chop half an onion and squeeze the juice with a piece of cheesecloth. Sprinkle some salt on the juice and let it sit for a few hours. Before hitting the sack, apply the juice on the trouble spots. Wash yourself in the morning. Banana peel Leaving small pieces of banana peel in the growths during the night produces impressive results after a few days. Simply cut small squares of banana peel. With the fleshy parts down, secure them in place with small strips of tape or bandage. Delete the next day. Beaver oil Another effective home remedy for xanthelasma is castor oil. However, many say it works better in the potholes that have just formed. As soon as you notice some yellowish formations around the eyes, look for a bottle of castor oil. Use a cotton swab to paint the product in those horrible formations. Apple cider vinegar No list of home remedies for various beauty problems would seem complete without the apple cider vinegar in it. Dip very small cotton balls in apple cider vinegar. Squeeze the excess and secure them over the yellow bumps with small strips of adhesive tape or bandage. After a couple of hours, remove it and rinse it. Eat foods that lower cholesterol As mentioned above, it is a good idea to switch to a diet that is not high in cholesterol to help reduce your body's cholesterol levels, which can help the xanthelasma go away on its own. Be sure to include many foods that lower cholesterol in the diet. Most of them are full of fiber that helps eliminate cholesterol in food. Many of these foods also contain vitamin C, antioxidants and healthy fats that effectively reduce bad cholesterol. These are some good examples of foods that lower cholesterol: Oats Leafy greens like spinach Vegetables Avocados Citric fruits Fatty fish like salmon Olive oil Red wine Green Tea

Multiple milia under the eyes

05:14
This young, beautiful woman has many milia under her eyes. These are very difficult to remove on your own skin, because they can't really be squeezed out without first nicking the surface of the skin first. Also, the skin under the eyes is very thin and its difficult to squeeze the area with your own fingers. You will see it's not that easy to use an extractor - it's important to push against the orbital bone, away from the eye socket to successfully extract these stubborn bumps! A milium (single for milia) is a small superficial cyst formed in the top layer of the skin called the epidermis. They appear as tiny, pearly-white bumps just under the surface of the skin. They contain keratin (skin protein) and are harmless. They are often seen on the face, in particular on the delicate skin around the eyes. They can be prevented or minimized with exfoliating like chemical peels, microdermabrasion or topical retinoids. However, they are sometimes difficult to remove without a physician’s help, since they cannot simply be squeezed out. Often, the surface of the skin has to be pierced first with a lancet, a sharp pointed blade, or a needle, in order to successfully remove the milium. Often a comedone extractor is used to express the milium. Thank you for watching! Subscribe to my Dermatology educational channel, Dr Pimple Popper University! Extracting a Milia on the Edge of the Eye

04:04
This young woman had a single milium at her left inner canthus of her eye. She had tried to pinch and squeeze it out numerous times, but this is nearly impossible, since milia are superficial cysts just under the skin surface. Although the skin in this area is very thin, it is also very mobile so it is particularly difficult to squeeze a cyst out even if you nick the surface beforehand. This is why I often use very sharp, serrated tissue scissors to remove milia in this location. This instrument can grab tissue that is thin and mobile much easier than a sharp blade, and a comedone extractor can't be used because I can't put pressure on the eye in this area. This area should heal up very well, and no scar should remain after this milium removal Thank you so much for watching! Cholesterol deposits in the eyes: Symptoms and treatment

09:04
Cholesterol deposits in the eyes: Symptoms and treatment Cholesterol can deposit around the eyes to form fatty, yellowish lumps. Though they are usually harmless, these deposits sometimes signal a serious underlying condition. Natural fats, including cholesterol, can form growths around the eyelids. One of these growths is called a xanthelasma (zan-the-laz-mah). Several growths together are called xanthelasmata. A xanthelasma may have no cause. However, it can sometimes indicate high cholesterol, hypothyroidism, or a liver condition. In this video, we look at the symptoms, causes, diagnosis, and treatment of cholesterol deposits on the eyes.

How To Remove All Milia Permanently In 2 Weeks! Remove Whiteheads Under Eyes At Home

02:56
Milia seeds are small white-coloured fat granule growing on the skin, particularly in area surrounding the eyes. They look like white sesame seeds! They are not pleasant looking. Here, I share with you a way to remove. One effective way to remove milia seeds is by using glycerin. By rubbing glycerin on the milia seeds can dissolve the oil around the milia seeds and bring about the removal of milia seeds. Milia seeds can be removed in 1 – 2 weeks while bigger ones need 1- 2 months to clear. After washing face every night, rub some glycerin on the milia seeds. Use index finger to slowly and gently massage. Do it consistently everyday and you can see the milia seeds gradually shrink. After a short time they dry up. Now you can remove them by gentle rubbing. A few cautions to remember regarding the use of glycerin: Glycerin needs to dilute: Do not apply too concentrated glycerin directly on the skin, because highly concentrated glycerin can irritate the skin and dehydrate it excessively. Therefore before using high concentration glycerin need to dilute it with clean water. Glycerin dosage: Correct use of glycerin can remove milia seeds on your face but improper use can lead to more milia seeds cropping up. Remember not to apply too much at one time. Excessive amount applied on the skin can block the pores and lead to more milia seeds to appear, especially for people with oily skin. SLIDE 12 Need to observe hygiene: Keeping the skin clean is highly important in order to succeed. Need to clean the dirt and oil from the face immediately after they appear and do it daily to keep the skin clean at all time. This will prevent the milia seeds from reappearing. Glycerin is to be used at night Glycerin must not be used during day time. This is because it is light-sensitive. During day time it will react with the sunlight and cause the skin to become dark in the applied area. This is no such worry if it is used at night. Need to know air humidity. Glycerin has powerful water-absorption ability. If the environment is very dry, glycerin can dehydrate the skin causing skin-dryness. In countries with dry climate, particularly during winter season, glycerin is not recommended. Choose gel based eye cream which can be easily absorbed by the skin, which will not stimulate granules to grow. Milia seeds are often caused by overly rich creams Reduce or abstain from the use of eye-shadow powder, glitters or other similar powder-based cosmetic products. Lets watch this video and learn how to get rid of milia naturally fast at home! It is easy to reduce white bumps under eyes and face at home. 6 SIGNS THAT YOU MAY HAVE HIGH CHOLESTEROL

05:02
Why is it so important to keep cholesterol at the normal levels and how to maintain it within the health limits? Cholesterol is a vital, fat-like substance that is contained in each cell of our body, as well as in our blood. Most of the cholesterol is produced by the liver, and the rest is procured through food. Please subscribe, click the bell and watch this video until the end to know the complete information. Cholesterol has extremely important reasons for our body and functions: it participates in the construction of cell membranes and in the formation of sexes and adrenal hormones; without cholesterol, the body can not synthesize vitamin D, which is indispensable to healthy bones, nor produces bile acid, without which fat in the body cannot be processed properly. When an excess of cholesterol accumulates in the body, it can not be broken down and this increases the risks to our health. The main danger is the onset of atherosclerosis, which in turn is the cause of most cardiovascular diseases such as a heart attack for example. The causes of increased levels of cholesterol in the blood are different: hereditary predisposition, chronic liver disease thyroid gland and diabetes. A sure way to maintain a normal cholesterol level is regular testing. Specialists recommend except for total, to monitor still poor (LDL) and good (HDL) cholesterol, as well as triglycerides. It is known that 20 years is the age in which the first examination for determining the values of cholesterol should be done. Revealed in time, increased cholesterol can be overcome and can not lead to serious health problems later. Here are 6 signs that you may have high cholesterol. 1. yellow growths on your eyelids. Did you know that yellowish eyelid can be a sign of high cholesterol? Take a good look at the eyelids, if you notice yellow spots, make a doctor’s appointment, check your cholesterol levels and your heart’s health. Also, do you notice painless yellow growths of the upper and lower eyelids? This phenomenon is called “xanthelasma” and it is a clear indication that you have high blood cholesterol levels. 2. gray-colored ring around your cornea. Often this is a sign of aging, so it should not be a cause for worry. But if you are far from retired, the gray circle around the iris may indicate high cholesterol and blood fat, which very often means a risk of heart attack or stroke. This gray colored ring or lacquer is actually composed of cholesterol that collects in the deeper parts of your cornea. 3. tingling sensation in the hands and feet. The tingling sensation of the hands and feet may indicate a problem in your body. This should be taken seriously because these symptoms can be caused by serious health problems. If the blood vessels are blocked by cholesterol, it is likely that you will feel tingling in your hands and feet, because your peripheral nerves are not getting do enough blood oxygen and nutrients for their proper functioning. 4. pain in the neck and back of the head. Because cholesterol levels that are too high can cause some of your blood vessels to block, it’s very possible that your circulation is obstructed. Such can leave your neck sensitive and deteriorate from time to time. The shoulder can also be felt in the same way. Medical practitioners say that high blood cholesterol levels can also make you have a headache, especially in the back of your head. 5. rapid or pounding beating of the heart. When a person says that she has heart palpitations, she thinks of the inner feeling that her heart beats something different from the usual one. Or, it simply has the awareness of the heartbeat. Most of the time, heart palpitations are harmless and they are often experienced after exercise or engaging in the intense physical activity. Sometimes they are due to anxiety, stress, and the intake of certain drugs. Palpitations may also indicate problems with the cardiovascular system, but and high cholesterol levels are one of them. Clogging the blood vessels due to cholesterol can lead to an accelerated operation of your heart. 6. unhealthy diet and lifestyle. If you eat plenty of fatty foods and avoid fruits and vegetables that contain a lot of fiber if you are a smoker and if you drink alcohol in excessive amounts, if you are overweight and do not exercise regularly, then there is a great chance that your cholesterol level is already high. But sometimes high cholesterol depends on our genes. About 1 in 500 people have a specific genetic mutation that leads to the accumulation of cholesterol in their blood. These people suffer from high cholesterol regardless of their lifestyle. if you suspect that you may have high cholesterol then please start eating a healthy diet and get levels checked out at the hospital. ilia, also called milk spots, are little white or yellowish bumps that commonly appear around and under the eyes. They can also appear on the nose, cheeks, forehead and chest. Basically, milia are keratin-filled cysts that are considered unsightly but harmless. They are quite common in newborn babies (often disappear within a few weeks), but can affect people of all ages. In adults, the condition may persist for months, even years. The problem occurs when the skin cannot remove dead skin cells, thereby causing clogged pores. It can be caused by factors like use of heavy, pore-clogging skin care products, sun damage, blistering injuries, and long-term use of steroid creams. Though milia cysts are generally neither itchy nor painful, they tend to mar your beauty. Some simple, natural home remedies can help you get rid of them. Here are the top 10 home remedies for milia. 1. Facial Sauna A facial sauna is useful in treating milia and unclogging pores as it helps loosen and remove dead skin cells and debris. Soak a clean towel in hot water and wring out the excess water. Place the towel on your face for a few minutes and then remove it. Repeat a couple of times. Do this daily for about a week or a little more. Alternatively, you can steam your face for 10 to 15 minutes daily until the condition clears. You can apply apple cider vinegar or castor oil after this steam treatment. 2. Honey Honey helps treat milia due to its antioxidant and humectant properties (retains moisture and avoids dryness). It also can be combined with other ingredients to make a facial scrub to exfoliate your skin and reduce milia. Simply spread honey, preferably raw honey, on your face. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then rinse it off. Do this daily until you see improvement. Alternatively, mix two tablespoons of honey and one tablespoon of jojoba oil. Apply it on your face and wash it off after 15 to 20 minutes. Repeat daily or three or four times a week until you see improvement. You can also add one tablespoon of granulated sugar and three tablespoons of oatmeal to the above mixture to make a facial scrub. Use it to gently scrub your skin for several minutes and then rinse it off. Repeat once or twice a week, until the bumps are gone. 3. Sandalwood and Rose Water A combination of sandalwood and rose water helps get rid of excess oil and removes dead skin cells, thereby reducing milia as well. Mix two tablespoons of sandalwood powder with sufficient rose water to make a smooth paste. Spread this paste evenly on your skin and leave it on for about 15 minutes. Wash it off with cool water and then pat dry your face. Do this daily for a few weeks. 4. Pomegranate Peel Powder Using roasted pomegranate peel powder is another popular home remedy for milia due to its antioxidant and exfoliating properties. Being rich in vitamin C, it is also good for your skin. It will also help soothe acne and pimples. Roast some pomegranate peels until they become dark brown and brittle, and then crush them into a powder. Add a little lemon juice or rose water to two tablespoons of the powder to make a paste. Gently rub it on your face. Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing it off. Follow this remedy a few times a week until the bumps disappear. 5. Castor Oil Castor oil has natural healing and antibacterial properties and also helps control oil production, thereby curing a number of skin problems including acne and milia. Simply apply one-half teaspoon of castor oil on your face and leave it on until it is completely absorbed in the skin. Do this daily for several months. You can also use a mixture of equal parts of castor oil and olive oil in the same way. Alternatively, you can apply a paste of one teaspoon of castor oil and enough baking soda on the affected area. Leave it on for a few hours and then wash it off. Repeat daily for about two weeks. 6. Sugar Scrub Using a simple sugar scrub can prove highly beneficial in getting rid of milia as it exfoliates the skin. Furthermore, this recipe includes lemon juice and olive oil that make your skin softer and brighter. Squeeze out the juice from one-quarter to one-half piece of lemon and mix it with two tablespoons of granulated sugar and one teaspoon of olive oil. Gently scrub this mixture onto your skin for a few minutes. Leave it on for 20 minutes and then rinse it off. Do this twice a week for a few months.
