Closer integration of airport and network operations
A SESAR trial on Target Time Management and Airport Operation plan – Network operation plan (AOP-NOP) integration was run in May 2016. The aim was to optimise network usage through better collaboration and more effective sharing of data between airports, air navigation service providers, airlines and the Network Manager. Four airports - Barcelona, Madrid, Alicante and Palma - and Flow Managers from three area control centres (ACCs) – Barcelona, Madrid and Palma - took part in the trial. Airlines did not play an active role but live data of interconnecting flights were used to validate the objectives. The trial was run in shadow mode, using the Network Manager Validation Platform (NMVP) Read more about the exercise: https://www.eurocontrol.int/news/closer-integration-airport-and-network-operations-brings-benefits-proof

How To Do Capacity Planning
Most IT organizations tend to manage system performance in a reactionary fashion, analyzing and correcting performance problems as users report them. When problems occur, hopefully system administrators have tools necessary to quickly analyze and remedy the situation. In a perfect world, administrators prepare in advance in order to avoid performance bottlenecks altogether, using capacity planning tools to predict in advance how servers should be configured to adequately handle future workloads. Watch as capacity planning expert Jon Hill explains the 3 crucial steps of successful capacity planning. Hill then performs real world demonstrations that detail each step using TeamQuest Performance Software. If you're in the capacity management arena or just want to know more on how to efficiently manage IT infrastructure performance; this video is a must see.

IBM Provides Intelligent Operations Center for Emergency Management
Information technology can’t stop the rain, but the intelligent collection and use of data can help governments and others plan proactively for disasters and mitigate their impact. Following the devastating Typhoon Haiyan (also known as Typhoon Yolanda), the Philippine Department of Science and Technology began working with IBM in 2013 to launch an integrated disaster management solution. The effort began with the IBM Intelligent Operations Center platform for disaster management and augmented with RadioConnect for Sametime technology from UnifiedEdge, and Touch Assisted Command and Control System software from Priority 5 Holdings. This means that the various systems supplying data on extreme weather and emergency management efforts now can be integrated into a dashboard that lets responders analyze the information and deploy the right resources at the right time — keeping the Philippines’ lifesaving disaster recovery efforts up and running. Take control of your flight plan
Aircraft which fly more direct routes use less fuel: this is good for the environment as there are fewer emissions. It saves airlines money, too. We at EUROCONTROL launched the Flight Efficiency Initiative (FEI) in 2013 so as to offer aircraft operators the most efficient routes on the day of operation. We scrutinize flight plans and find a quicker or more cost-effective route. The Network Manager can make re-routing proposals up to two hours before departure. In 2014, thanks to the FEI, we were able to save 32,644 minutes and 375,000 kilometers. Take part in the Flight Efficiency Initiative and discover our dynamic route generator: it’s user-friendly and free of charge. Studies in Activity Networks: A Guided Tour
2011 INFORMS Annual Meeting Charlotte, NC Studies in Activity Networks: A Guided Tour Welcome and Opening Plenary Salah E. Elmaghraby University Professor of Operations Research and Industrial Engineering North Carolina State University Activity Networks (ANs) is a model for the planning and (dynamic) control of projects. I shall present a historical perspective of studies of the model from its inception over 50 years ago, and the various issues with which the original model of CPM/PERT has been enriched. These include: portfolio selection, the management of resources (including funds), the acquisition and dispensation of resources, coping with uncertainty (the popular name is "risk management"), and the graphical representation of progress to satisfy certain managerial desires. Of the myriad of issues raised in the field of project management and control, I shall elaborate on three areas of my continued research: Assuming deterministic environment (Deterministic Activity Networks (DANs), can one resolve the "optimal crashing problem" under generalized precedence relations (GPRs)? How about the optimal scheduling of the activities subject to resource availabilities (the RCPSP under GPRs)? Still under the assumption of DANs, how to schedule the activities subject to limited resource availabilities (including how much to acquire of these resources in the first place) in order to achieve certain objectives. Assuming stochastic environment (Probabilistic Activity Networks (PANs), how to model, and cope with, uncertainty relative to specifying the start time of the various activities and the scheduling of the resources required for their execution. Salah E. Elmaghraby has been University Professor of Operations Research and Industrial Engineering at North Carolina State University since 1967. Previously, he was an Associate Professor at Yale University and Research Leader at the Western Electric Engineering Research Center in Princeton, NJ. He was a Visiting Professor at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY; the University of Alexandria, Egypt; the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium; University Lyon I, France; and the Nagoya Institute of Technology, Japan. In addition, he has twelve years of industrial experience, including eight abroad. Elmaghraby has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University Lyon I. He has written four books, edited/co-edited three books (including the Handbook of Operations Research), authored/co-authored eight book chapters, and authored/co-authored over 118 scientific papers. He is a registered PE, a Fellow of the IIE and INFORMS, and a member of APICS and NSPE. He received a BSME from Cairo University, an MSIE from Ohio State University, and a PhD from Cornell University.

Airport Operations Management in SESAR
This video is about the SESAR Airport Operations Plan (or AOP). The OAP will : - provide all airport stakeholders, including airlines, airport operators, air navigation service providers, ground handlers, and de-icing agents, with a common information source - be the principal means by which the integration of airports into the overall ATM network will be achieved. In order to further study the AOP and to move toward airport performance monitoring, EUROCONTROL and the SEAC airports consortium have provided specification requirements for a Fast-Time simulation model called CAST. CAST contains: - a complete airside and landside infrastructure - a high fidelity representation of the flow of passengers through the various processes within a terminal an accurate representation of the turnaround activities associated to an aircraft. This tool was developed by the Airport Research Centre in Aachen, German. More information at www.eurocontrol.int We are pleased to share with you some of videos and animations. √ Main influences on operations management: Globalisation | iitutor
https://www.iitutor.com Globalisation : The removal of barriers of trade between nations. National economies become integrated. There is an increase in the transfer of capital, labour, technology and financial resources. To be competitive in the market place businesses are expanding globally to attract more customers. It is the role of the Operations function to facilitate this expansion. Global consumers seek standardised products and global brands such as Nike, McDonalds, Apple. What must the operations function focus on in a global market? Product design to meet the needs of global consumers, Location of manufacturing facility, Quality management logistics, and Inventory management process. Supply chain management and the global web: Supply chain refers to the range of suppliers for a business. It also analyses the relationship between the business and supplier. A business need to establish a very reliable supply chain to operate effectively. Global web: The network of suppliers a business has chosen. This will be based on: cost, lowest risk, quality, and time. Example: Nike locates its manufacturing in South east Asia. Imitation and the supply chain: When deciding on a supply chain, the business must decide whether it will be an: Imitator or Innovator. Imitators tend to create products that are very similar to other brands but at a lower cost. Reverse engineering is often used by imitators. The business takes a competitor’s product and dissects it. They then try and make their own version of the product. The operations function will look to source materials from cheaper suppliers. Example: Sony Erickson. Innovators decide to create new products to lead the market. Innovators may improve an existing product OR create a completely new concept product. The operations function needs to shape the supply chain around innovation.

The time it takes to provision new servers makes it difficult to meet the demands of the business. From coordinating with the individual teams to interacting with the different management applications, it seems like the list just gets longer, and the process more involved, costing you and your business precious time that you don't really have. 2017 Audi Q5 - PRODUCTION
San José Chiapa, Mexico - CAR FACTORY Audi is further expanding its worldwide production network and thus continuing along its path of global growth. This Friday, the Audi Board of Management opened the company’s first automobile plant on the North American continent. Starting now, the brand with the Four Rings will produce the new generation of the Audi Q5* for the world market in San José Chiapa in Mexico’s federal state of Puebla. The plant has an annual production capacity of approximately 150,000 premium SUVs. By the end of the year, a total of 4,200 jobs will be created locally at Audi México. AUDI AG is the first premium automobile manufacturer with product facilities in Mexico. “The plant in Mexico is a milestone in the history of our company and an important step in our internationalization. It is one of the most modern factories on the American continent. With this facility, we have established an important site for the export of our automobiles to customers all over the world,” stated Prof. Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG. The country has twelve free-trade agreements with more than 50 countries and therefore offers ideal economic conditions. Mexico is a powerhouse for automobiles and automotive components. Together with his Board of Management colleagues Prof. Dr. Hubert Waltl (Production and Logistics and also Chairman of the Board of Audi México), Prof. h.c. Thomas Sigi (Human Resources) and Dr. Bernd Martens (Procurement), as well as the Governor of the State of Puebla Rafael Moreno Valle, and Mayor of San José Chiapa Josué Martínez Santos, Stadler gave the signal for the official start of production of the new Audi Q5. “For us, this plant is more than a financial investment of over one billion euros. Above all, it is a commitment to the site and to the people who, together with us, have managed this great achievement,” continued Stadler. “Our plant in Mexico is a prime example of the Audi Smart Factory. The facility is the first that we have put into operation completely virtually, that is, in a computer simulation,” stated Audi’s Board of Management Member for Production Waltl. We have optimized the entire process chain and put the plant into operation 30 percent faster than is usual.” That was a record in the automobile industry. Audi has applied state-of-the-art technology in the factory planning. The plant first took shape in great detail in virtual space, where factory planners from various sites were able to work on the plant structure simultaneously. As a result, Audi was able to set up a complete car plant with a press shop, body shop, paint shop and assembly line on an area of 400 hectares (988acres) in the record time of just three and a half years. Ultramodern plant equipment and highly efficient logistics allow an annual production volume of 150,000 Audi Q5 vehicles. Thanks to various water treatment methods and the application of new technologies in the paint shop, the plant will be free of wastewater. New equipment will significantly reduce water, gas and electricity consumption and facilitate resource-efficient production. A supplier park has been established immediately adjacent to the park. Seven suppliers and logistics providers have started operations there in time for the start of production of the Audi Q5. The JIS park (just in sequence) guarantees short distances from the suppliers’ buildings to the assembly line and allows punctual delivery of components for the premium SUV. At the start of production, Audi is sourcing more than 70 percent of the parts from the NAFTA region and plans to increase this proportion of localization over the long term. In total, more than 100 companies already supply parts for the Audi Q5 from sites in Mexico. In line with its social responsibility, the company also supports the people in the region. Audi México has so far taken more than 3,300 local employees on board. Audi prepares its employees for their future tasks with tailored training courses at a new training center. Approximately 5,300 training courses have already been carried out. In addition, Audi has provided advance training at its sites in Germany to more than 750 Mexican employees, who were assisted by experienced mentors. Audi México offers diverse entry possibilities to young talented people, such as the system of dual training with approximately 80 apprenticeships each year, the internship program, the EMA scholarship program (Estudiantes Mexicanos en Alemania) and the new Programa de Especialistas, a qualifications program for career starters and job applicants with initial career experience. interior New 2016 2018 line Plant manufacturing car factory "SUBSCRIBE NOW"
