American Fast Food Took Over Kuwait And Made Its People Obese: VICE on HBO, Full Episode

12:50
Obesity is now the biggest health threat facing Kuwait — and the country's obsession with American fast food could be to blame. The very first McDonald's restaurant appeared in Kuwait on a U.S. military base set up to support the 1991 invasion of Iraq. Since then, the industry has rapidly expanded — there are now hundreds of U.S. fast food restaurants in Kuwait and as a result, the country has become one of the most obese nations on the planet. "The begining of fast food, I would say it is part of the Americanization of the culture here." Dr. Mohsen Bagnied, a professor at the American University of Kuwait told VICE News. Now, Kuwait has roughly double the percentage of diabetic adults than the U.S. The fast food industry isn't just operating in the Middle East. American Fast food brands populate more than 100 countries around the world, occupying six continents. And the global fast food industry is projected to be worth over $600 billion by 2019. VICE's Gianna Toboni travels to Kuwait to witness the health effects on a country deep in the throes of an unlikely obsession with U.S. fast food. Study: More sleep reduces type 2 diabetes risk in children

00:55
Children who receive more sleep at night may have a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the rate of newly diagnosed cases of diabetes in children increased by 1.8% each year between 2002 and 2012. Researchers at the Child Heart and Health Study in England conducted a study involving 4,525 children ages 9 to 10 years of age. The kids reported how much they slept and had blood samples taken to check their cholesterol, insulin and glucose levels. Most of the children slept an average of ten-and-a-half hours every night. The researchers found for each extra hour of sleep the kids got their risk factors for type 2 diabetes all went down. "The kids who slept the longest had lower measures of body fat; they had lower levels of insulin and blood sugar," said Dr. Roy Kim with Cleveland Clinic Children’s. "So they extrapolated from these findings and concluded that the more you sleep, the lower your risk for diabetes." Pedetrians say getting a good night's sleep is key to regulating a child's appetite, promoting proper growth and development, and lessening the affects from metabolic diseases. "Without adequate sleep, we’re less likely to be able to do our school work well, we may have less energy to exercise or participate in sports the next day," said Dr. Kim. "So, sleep is one of the core things that we have to get right in order to have healthy kids." Two important things doctors say parents can do to improve their child's sleep is to remove devices out of their room and make sure they avoid late-night snacking.

China is on track to have more obese children than any other country by 2025, according to the World Obesity Federation. The report says 48.5 million Chinese children are expected to be obese, with many suffering diseases like diabetes and heart failure. Can Drinking Diet Soda Make You Fat? Shocking Facts About Coke (Coca Cola)

05:03
Please Like, Share and Subscribe our channel. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We have a very beautiful tooth, but it was not like this before. In the 18th century, Britishers used to consume large quantities of Sugar and Sugar was considered a luxury luxury item. Because Sugar was called White Gold at that time and it was so precious and expensive that only rich people used to eat it. According to the Health Expert, one person should take about 50 grams of Sugar in one day but now our average is about 94 grams of Sugar, mostly through Sugar Drinks in our body. According to Coke's website, when they started, only 9 coke had been sold in the first day. And today approximately 1.9 billion coke is sold daily. This is approximately 7.5 million people, i.e. 25% of the world's population has a coke every day. According to estimates, half of America's population drink at least half a glass of soda every day of their life. Similarly, Indian people have also consumed large quantities of coke. But the question is whether coke or a drink like this is good for our health or not? First of all, it is important to know what happens inside the coke? Coke was started in the year 1891. Coke's secret formula only knows some 3 4 people. But you know that coke has sugar or any other sweeteners and is caffeine, color and phosphoric acid. The rest of the content is kept in the intelligence space. Now, according to estimates, those secrets are 7x, which contain a mixture of oils, orange, lemon, nutmeg, sage, coriander, neroli and some alcohol-derived oils. Neroli Orange Pads have oil. And it is also a part of cocaine. Cocaine has released illigen in the US 12 years ago. Now there is 39 grams of sugar in 355 millimeter coke. If you talk about McDonald's, then there is about 77 grams of sugar in its large coke. Due to this large drink, the rule of caps was created in New York, in which 7x was not included. And the rule applies to the restuarant that serves to drink more than half a liter. Now if you drink more coke then your teeth slowly start to rot. Because the acid content in the coke will destroy the enamel on your teeth. Your body needs 2000 calories and you can drink 150 calories by drinking 10 bottles of coke, but this will make you more exhausted. Together, the risk of heart-related diseases increases. Because it was used. In America, a healthier person drank 10 cans daily for 30 days. And ate anything along with it. But this increased their weight of 12.7 kg And his blood pressure went from 129/77 to 145/96. Apart from this, many people are facing health problems like diabetes and heart disease. According to a survey our agents begin to grow rapidly, and soon lose the tooth. We feel very hungry all the time because the taste of sweets increases hunger. And of course, weight increases. According to an article, a woman drank two liters of soda every day and did not drink water for 16 years. His addiction had to be hospitalized only at the age of 31. She was suffering from diseases such as arithimia, lack of filling spells and potassium. Now you can imagine that what can be done by drinking only coke. WHO's Department of Nutrition for Health Development said in 2015 that we have a total of less than 10% of total energy intake consuming sugar, it reduces the risk of overweight, obesity and tooth decay. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Music by : Fanfare for Space by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/...) Mobile Obesity Prevention System

02:00
Obesity is emerging as one of the greatest challenges of our time both in terms of disease and economic burden. The ever-expanding list of diseases (some 30 diseases) associated with obesity tends to threaten not just individual lives but health care systems in particular and global economy in general. Heavy price of a heavy problem-the cost of expanding waistlines: A few bone-chilling facts: From a country that spends the estimated $2 trillion annually on healthcare expenses, more than any other industrialized nation in the world: - Today 2/3 of US adults are overweight or obese and it costs them 190 billion US $ annually that is about 21% of the healthcare expenditure and by year 2030 this will be increased to 550 billion US $. - In US 1 in 3 children is at risk of preventable diseases such as diabetes and heart diseases due to childhood obesity. 75% of obese children make obese adults. This might be the first generation of American children to be less healthy than their parents. - Globally, by 2020, if the current epidemic continues unchecked, 9% of all preschoolers will be overweight or obese—nearly 60 million children - Worldwide, if nothing is done to reverse the epidemic, more than 1 billion adults are projected to be obese by 2030. - Scientists warn that the rising number of obese people in the world will affect the world's resources as much as another billion people would, causing "major threat" to food security. - WHO estimates that if no action is taken, globally death toll due to obesity will rise from 3 million to 5 million deaths per year. So this calls for an action! Why Mobile Obesity Prevention System is the need of time? 1-This system will have huge implications in saving health care costs as it would prevent healthy people from becoming patients for instance in US it takes an annual spending of 3,271 US$ for an obese as compared to 512 US$ for a non-obese person. 2-Healthier individuals make healthier nations. In terms of productivity in US health economists believe: -Obesity related Absenteeism costs: 6.4 billion US$ -Obesity related 'Presenteeism' costs: 30 billion US$ annually So, lower obesity rates alone, would produce productivity gain of 254 trillion US$. 3-And last but not least it will prevent the over loading of hospitals, health and welfare services by reducing the individual demand on the health care system. According to an estimate in US it avoids treatment expenditure of 60 billion US$. From Camel to Cadillac....the cost of the modern problem! My area of concern is the GCC countries where 40% of the population is obese and 4 out of 6 GCC countries rank amongst world's 10 fattest nations. Factors such as family history, sedentary lifestyle, urbanization, income and family diet patterns are associated with a high prevalence of overweight and obesity in the Middle East. Two types of costs are associated with the treatment of obesity and obesity-related conditions: -Direct costs -Indirect costs Owing to this, health care delivery in GCC countries will cost about 60 billion US $ by year 2025 increasing five folds from today. The World Health Organization estimates that around 58% of type 2 diabetes, 21% of heart disease and between 8% and 42% of certain cancers are attributable to excess body fat. According to an estimate Cardiovascular diseases alone will become an enormous cost burden (by 2025 it will be doubled from today's 12% of total health expenditure) not to mention Diabetes known as the dark side of the Gulf economic boom. The countries of the Co-operation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) include those currently ranked 2, 3, 5, 7 and 8 for diabetes prevalence among the 216 countries for which data are available. Having the highest mobile penetration rate in the world, the GCC region makes a promising market that would actually benefit from a practical preventive solution that is Mobile Obesity Prevention System. Ultimately our target market will include all those nations across the globe, who has declared 'war on obesity'! Why I need to be heard? From board rooms to slogans chanted in presidential campaigns, From Research & Development offices to well-chronicled articles, Enough has been 'said' about the cliche': Prevention of obesity! It's the challenge of our individual and collective future to finally act and practically prevent obesity! Think like an investor... The surest way to cut health costs...to increase Productivity is... To prevent obesity! And Mobile Obesity Prevention System will make you do that! Dare to make the right choice.....for the decisions we make today shall influence the lives of our generations to come.... Join the cause....! Thank you.

Children seen as the key to turning the US obesity clock back

Thirty-five percent of adult Americans are currently termed obese and medical experts have forecast... euronews, the most watched news channel in Europe Subscribe for your daily dose of international news, curated and explained:http://eurone.ws/10ZCK4a Euronews is available in 13 other languages: http://eurone.ws/17moBCU http://www.euronews.com/2013/07/10/children-seen-as-the-key-to-turning-the-us-obesity-clock-back Thirty-five percent of adult Americans are currently termed obese and medical experts have forecast this figure will rise to a staggering 50 percent by the year 2030. Since becoming First Lady, Michelle Obama has made fighting the fat one of her causes. Yesterday she hosted a " Kids Dinner" at the White House promoting healthy eating among children in which her husband made an unscheduled appearance. "Keep it up," said the president. "You guys are going to set a good example for everybody all across the country because you are eating healthy and you are out there, active and playing sports and you are in the playground and doing all those things." Medical costs for treating obesity-related diseases are expected to rise by $48 billion (37 billion euros) to $66 billion (51 billion euros) per year if the obesity rate continues at the current pace. Nutritionists and medical experts such as Dr. Andrea Hulse-Johnson from Montgomery Family Medicine Associates say the way forward is to educate children and stop them adopting the bad eating habits of their parents. "The risks of childhood obesity, if we do not address them as a nation, are an increased risk for the chronic conditions including diabetes, including hypertension and heart disease. These are the big ones in our country," said Dr. Hulse-Johnson. She added: "I do believe that these chronic conditions starting earlier in life set a person up for not only long-term use of medications and the need to manage them medically, but a shortened lifespan." Fear for a Fat Future - Obesity

04:11
ObesityObesity is now a global epidemic, affecting more people worldwide than malnutrition -- and researchers at the University of Exeter in the South West of England believe that it's an epidemic caused by inactivity. Over the last 15 years scientists at the University have studied activity levels in over a thousand children. They found that repeated health warnings have had little or no effect. Children today still aren't taking enough exercise to combat obesity. Despite fears about junk food diets, most children aren't taking on more calories than they used to. They just aren't doing enough to burn off those calories, as television watching and computer games take the place of sports and active play. Surveys held in the US show that, between 1980 and 1994, obesity trebled in adolescents and doubled in children. Children who start life obese are statistically far more likely to become obese adults, falling victim to a range of diseases including coronary heart disease, high blood pressure and, as researchers at the nearby University of Bristol have established, the increasing threat of diabetes.

When Fat Pride Becomes Dangerous

05:06
Thought I'd mention. When it comes to criticising these people, I am not talking about the one legged woman, as I do believe that she is the only one who actually deserves to have a body positivity movement dedicated to people in her situation. I think it's important to point out people who are - whether unintentional or not - contributing to a growing obesity crisis. Lose weight, exercise daily and eat healthily, and the benefits will follow. Yes, you can be unhealthy and be skinny but you will definitely risk future health problems when your body is caked with thick fat. Me, Peach Balie and Bendietrees do a weekly exercise livestream for an hour every week, where we obviously exercise and lose weight! Please join us! You might be thinking 'Otter, weren't you being a bit harsh, calling them fat fucks?' Yeah, I would never say this to just any fat person, however I would say it to the faces of people who promote fat acceptance and fat pride and here's my explanation: I can dislike a person who is promoting obesity, an unhealthy lifestyle that’ll lead to heart attacks, diabetes, high blood pressure, early death, gout, heart disease, high cholesterol, some types of cancer (cancers of the colon, breast, prostate, and uterus), arthritis, respiratory problems (such as sleep apnea and asthma) , blount disease (deformity of the lower legs), gallstones (An accumulation of bile that hardens in the gallbladder forms gallstones. These may be painful and require surgery), fatty liver (which can cause inflammation, scarring and permanent liver damage), pseudotumor cerebri, polycystic ovary syndrome, depression and even infertility. I can dislike someone who thinks that being fat is something one should be proud of, despite the evidence that points to the fact that being fat isn’t healthy and good for any human body. Yes, having a bit of fat on your body is fine and has some benefits, but not as much as what fat acceptance activists have. You can be proud of a great picture you drew in art class. You can be proud of winning a medal in a race. You can be proud of finishing that charity run. You can be proud of winning an award for something you did. You can’t be proud of shovelling boatloads of crap into your mouth, wrapping crap around your arteries and making it difficult to walk around and live your life. Being fat is not a good thing, and the people that are fat are most likely fat because they’re lazy and have little to no willpower to get off the sofa and exercise to save their lives and, if they have kids, their lives too. This kind of dangerous ignorance will only make people think that being obese is okay and thus contribute to the obesity crisis that is plaguing my country and the US, Mexico and many other countries. Obesity, being fat, is not something that should be accepted but these people want it to be. Oh, yeah I dislike these people very much. So I found this video on my facebook timeline, and it was the cringiest thing I have ever seen. Sure, it's great to be confident in your own body, but don't ever suggest that being fat is in any way a good lifestyle choice. -------------------SOURCES USED/OR TO PONDER OVER YOURSELF-------- www.healthable.org/what-are-the-side-effects-of-being-overweight/ http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-25708278 http://www.surgeongeneral.gov/news/testimony/obesity07162003.htm http://www.theguardian.com/society/2015/may/05/obesity-crisis-projections-uk-2030-men-women http://www.cdc.gov/healthyweight/effects/index.html http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Obesity/Pages/Treatment.aspx --------------------------MUSIC--------------------------------- OUTRO MUSIC! Global diabetes numbers at all-time high

01:44
A new study says that 347 million adults worldwide have disease, double the number affected by it 1980. The estimated number of diabetics is far higher than a previous projection, which put the number closer to 285 million. Of the 347 million with diabetes, 138 million live in China and India, with another 36 million in the United States and Russia. Gulf Cooperation Council states make up six of the 12 countries with the highest incidence of the disease worldwide.   Al Jazeera's Nazanin Sadri takes a look at its increasing prevalance here in Qatar. At Al Jazeera English, we focus on people and events that affect people's lives. We bring topics to light that often go under-reported, listening to all sides of the story and giving a 'voice to the voiceless.' Diabetes, the New Epidemic - Dr Paolo Pozzilli

30-50% of people are affected by obesity or pre-diabetes. How can we stop this growing medical and social problem? http://www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and-events/diabetes-the-new-epidemic Worldwide prevalence of type 2 diabetes is rapidly increasing with the numbers projected to rise to 366 million in 2030. Risk of diabetes is even larger, since 30-50% of people are affected by obesity or pre-diabetes which may eventually progress to diabetes and/or risk of cardiovascular diseases. This can be reversible and early intervention (weight loss, exercise programmes or pharmacological) can reduce risk, but adherence and costs are an issue. Less conventional approaches such as increasing taxes on unhealthy food, financial incentives or peer-monitoring have also been proposed and Government, private institutions and media should all collaborate to fight this epidemic. http://www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and-events/diabetes-the-new-epidemic Gresham College has been giving free public lectures since 1597. This tradition continues today with all of our five or so public lectures a week being made available for free download from our website. Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes

56:04
May 9, 2007 Dr. Mitchell Lazar University of Pennsylvania Dr. Lazar discusses the increasing prevalence of diabetes and obesity. Currently, approximately 18 million people in the United States (6.2% of the population) have diabetes. The rate is even higher among the elderly, Hispanics, Native Americans, and African Americans. Diabetes currently costs the nation $132 billion a year. The Centers for Disease Control has projected that one out of three children born in the United States in the year 2000 will develop diabetes in his/her lifetime. Most of the increase in diabetes is related to an increase in obesity; 58 million people in the U.S. are now considered obese. Both diabetes and obesity are complex diseases tied to genetic and environmental factors. Environmental factors include increased access to low-cost, high-caloric foods, as well as decreased physical activity. These environmental—and genetic—factors have devastating effects on metabolic pathways controlling body fat, blood sugar, and cardiovascular health. Basic and translational research has begun to shed light on the ways by which metabolic pathways are influenced by genes and environment. And we are on the verge of major breakthroughs in recognizing the gene--environment interactions that underlie obesity.

American Medical Association Votes Obesity Declared a Disease

05:25
American Medical Association Votes Obesity Declared a Disease http://healthnewswires.com/american-medical-association-votes-obesity-declared-a-disease/ In June 2013, the American Medical Association voted to recognize obesity as a disease. Currently over 78 million adults and 12 million children in the U.S. are considered obese. Obesity increases the chances of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, gout and hundreds of other health conditions. In addition, billions, maybe even trillions, of dollars are spent on obesity-related health care each year. A person is considered obese if they have a Body Mass Index, or BMI, of 30 or above. A person is considered overweight if their BMI is between 25 and 30, normal weight is a BMI of 25 or below. Many people think obesity is caused just by eating too many calories and not exercising enough. While these lifestyle choices are significant in the cause of obesity, they are only two of several possible reasons. In addition to diet and exercise, genetics, medication, and hormone imbalance all play a role in determining a person's weight. People can take proactive steps to treat obesity, much of it can be done without medicine, drugs or costly procedures. Losing weight is directly connected to improved blood pressure, lower cholesterol, decreased risk of diabetes and lower incidence of cancer and other deadly diseases. Anyone who is obese should get clearance from a medical professional before starting any diet or exercise plan. Most weight loss plans will focus on a change to a healthy diet and inclusion of an effective exercise plan. Weight loss diets should include specific foods to control the production of leptin, the most important fat burning hormone in the body. Exercise programs should be progressive and focus on 20 to 30 minutes of effective exercise each day.

Victoria Mackechnie - Kids in the Kitchen

02:02
It is estimated that there are over 300,000 overweight and obese children in Ireland. The projections are that by 2015, over one third of Irish children will be overweight or obese. Furthermore, Irish children suffer from a record number of dietary conditions, with a high rate of coeliac disease, osteoporosis and diabetes. By giving children the skills to produce appetising, nutritious dishes, Kids in the Kitchen is attempting to tackle this growing epidemic. Victoria Mackechnie left the world of finance and wealth management behind her in November 2008 to establish Kids in the Kitchen. Passionate about childrens cookery, she set up the business to give primary and secondary school children the practical skills and nutritional understanding to make tasty, healthy meals for themselves. She provides the ingredients and equipment for the children to cook different dishes under her supervision. They bring home their meals and recipes to share with their families. With courses already running successfully in schools, Victoria wants to expand her courses to school children in underprivileged areas throughout the country. Victoria believes cooking is something children enjoy just as much as eating the finished product sometimes even more! I want to show children that good quality healthy ingredients, cooked well, are delicious. This is an invaluable life skill from which all boys and girls can benefit hugely. www.kidsinthekitchen.ie

What Causes Obesity

00:57
The UK is the 'fattest' country in Europe. The number of obese adults is forecast to rise by 73% over the next 20 years from to 26 million people, resulting in more than a million extra cases of type 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancer. Obesity is also no longer a condition that just affects older people, although the likelihood does increase with age, and increasing numbers of young people have been diagnosed with obesity. http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes-and-obesity.html

Majority of Americans will have diabetes or pre-diabetes by 2020

01:15
"UnitedHealth Group, the largest U.S. health insurer by sales, says half of all American adults will have diabetes or suffer from pre-diabetic conditions by 2020. According to a study released by the company, the disease will reportedly cost the nation almost $3.4 trillion, over 60% of which is paid for by the U.S. government. The number of Americans with high blood sugar will increase 44% to 135 million, up from 93.8 million, in the next 10 years. The study found that 12% of around 235 million American adults are diabetic while 28% are prediabetic. However, prediabetics can lower their chances of getting the full-blown disease by losing weight. Simon Steves, executive VP for the company's Center for Health Reform said, ""There is nothing inevitable. Even quite modest changes, like losing 5% of body weight, have the potential of producing decreases. If we don't take obesity seriously, we risk our children living shorter lives than we parents have lived."""

Obesity is a condition where a person has accumulated so much body fat that it might have a negative effect on their health. If a person's bodyweight is at least 20% higher than it should be, he or she is considered obese. If your Body Mass Index (BMI) is between 25 and 29.9 you are considered overweight. If your BMI is 30 or over you are considered obese. | What is obesity? - Mia Nacamulli | Obesity Will Kill You| Obesity Is Ridiculously Deadly| Extreme Obesity | Junk Food Addict Marla Is Eating Herself To Death| Why do people become obese? People can become obese for many different reasons. Lets look at some of the most common ones: These days people are eating much more food than in previous generations. This used to be the case just in developed nations - however, the trend has spread worldwide. Despite billions of dollars being spent on public awareness campaigns that attempt to encourage people to eat healthily, the majority of us continue to overeat. In 1980 14% of the adult population of the USA was obese; by 2000 the figure reached 31% (The Obesity Society). 2) Leading a sedentary lifestyle With the arrival of televisions, computers, video games, remote controls, washing machines, dish washers and other modern convenience devices, people are commonly are leading a much more sedentary lifestyle compared to their parents and grandparents. Some decades ago shopping consisted of walking down the road to the high street where one could find the grocers, bakers, banks, etc. As large out-of-town supermarkets and shopping malls started to appear, people moved from using their feet to driving their cars to get their provisions. In some countries, such as the USA, dependence on the car has become so strong that many people will drive even if their destination is only half-a-mile away. 3) Not sleeping enough Research has suggested that if you do not sleep enough your risk of becoming obese doubles. Research was carried out at Warwick Medical School at the University of Warwick. The risk applies to both adults and children. Professor Francesco Cappuccio and team reviewed evidence in over 28,000 children and 15,000 adults. Their evidence clearly showed that sleep deprivation significantly increased obesity risk in both groups. 4) Endocrine disruptors, such as some foods that interfere with lipid metabolism. A team from the University of Barcelona (UB) led by Dr Juan Carlos Laguna published a study in the journal Hepatology that provides clues to the molecular mechanism through which fructose (a type of sugar) in beverages may alter lipid energy metabolism and cause fatty liver and metabolic syndrome. Fructose is mainly metabolized in the liver, the target organ of the metabolic alterations caused by the consumption of this sugar. In this study, rats receiving fructose-containing beverages presented a pathology similar to metabolic syndrome, which in the short term causes lipid accumulation (hypertriglyceridemia) and fatty liver, and eventually leads to hypertension, resistance to insulin, diabetes and obesity. 5) Lower rates of smoking (smoking suppresses appetite) According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) "Not everyone gains weight when they stop smoking. Among people who do, the average weight gain is between 6 and 8 pounds. Roughly 10 percent of people who stop smoking gain a large amount of weight - 30 pounds or more." 6) Medications that make patients put on weight According to an article in Annals of Pharmacotherapy, some medications cause weight gain. "Clinically significant weight gain is associated with some commonly prescribed medicines. There is wide interindividual variation in response and variation of the degree of weight gain within drug classes. Where possible, alternative therapy should be selected, especially for individuals predisposed to overweight and obesity." (The Annals of Pharmacotherapy: Vol. 39, No. 12, pp. 2046-2054. DOI 10.1345/aph.1G33) 7) Is obesity self-perpetuating? The longer a person is overweight, the harder it becomes for them to lose weight. Many have wondered whether obesity itself becomes a permanent state, i.e. does obesity promote obesity?. Researchers from the University of Michigan and the National Council of Science and Technology (COINCET) in Argentina, reported in the Journal of Clinical Investigation that in animal experiments, obesity seems to become a self-perpetuating state. They found that the “normal” body weight of mice that become obese starts going up; their bodies’ perception of normal weight becomes a heavier than before, regardless of whether they are made to go on diets which had made them lose weight. 8) Obesity gene A faulty gene, called FTO, makes 1 in every 6 people overeat, a team of scientists from University College London reported in the Journal of Clinical Investigation (July 2013 issue). Lead researcher, Racher Batterham,

High risk of Diabetes among South Asians starts from Birth

02:30
South Asians are known to suffer from substantially higher rates of both diabetes and heart disease. A New research from the South Asian Birth Cohort study (START), published on of Diabetes in the International Journal of Obesity, suggests that risks of developing Type 2 diabetes for South Asians begins immediately at birth. The research is significant because it suggests South Asian pregnant women should be considered high risk for gestational diabetes and routinely screened in pregnancy. South Asian women who minimize their risk of gestational diabetes and avoid excessive weight gain in pregnancy can prevent diabetes in their own children. Prevention may be an important way to break the transmission of Diabetes among generations. South Asian mothers, who are smaller in stature than their white counterparts give birth to significantly smaller babies, those newborns has more adipose or fat tissue, termed the "thin-fat" phenotype and a higher waist circumference. The high amount of fat tissue is clearly influenced by South Asian ethnicity, the mother's body fat and high blood sugar levels. The research re-emphasizes the importance of diabetes prevention efforts in South Asians from very early childhood onwards, in order to reduce the eventual burden of diabetes and cardiovascular disease in South Asian adults. The START study researchers have now recruited an additional 1,000 South Asian mothers and their babies in the Greater Toronto region for further study. They are also involved in a collaborative study in Bangalore, India where they will compare rural and urban groups, which will then be compared to Canadian urban South Asians. Researchers also intend to examine how growth in the first year of life may influence future risk of elevated glucose and other cardiovascular risk factors. Public Health England (PHE) forecasts that 63 per cent of men in their fifties will be obese by 2034, and 38 per cent of women of the same age will also be overweight. Consequenses of Childhood Obesity - Solutions To Childhood Obesity. ETTFIT.US http://ettfit.us/lets-end-childhood-obesity/ The consequences of obesity in children have long-lasting effects that stretch into adolescence and well into adulthood. Research shows that overweight children are more likely to become obese adults. Children who continue to be overweight into adulthood can develop life-threatening problems. Primary physical consequences of obesity include cardiac disorders such as heart disease and hypertension, endocrine disorders, diabetes, respiratory disorders such as asthma and sleep apnea, and skin problems Let’s End The Trend The trend in obesity is tragic. And while most admit the trend is only gaining in momentum, everyone agrees there is a solution; lifestyle change. How will this end the upward trend of obesity where other initiatives have failed? Without ETTFIT’s intervention, current projections show that in 25 years, an unbelievable 86% of the population will be obese or overweight and the increases in lifestyle diseases like type-II diabetes and heart disease will follow. That is not just statistics, it is a plague projected to shave up to ten years off the life-expectancy of Americans. But with this business model, we’re already seeing the impact of thousands of coaches reaching into their communities to get people healthy. Success stories pour in every day – and it is just the beginning! ETTFIT is taking dramatic action with this breakthrough business model. We are convinced that a program that rewards people financially for helping each other get healthy is compelling enough that as it reaches critical mass, it will actually be THE solution. In fact, it is our belief that this sort of entrepreneurial financial incentive is the ONLY solution that can affect dramatic acceptance of the lifestyle change required to turn this trend around. Let’s end the trend of obesity by rewarding the people who do the best job of inspiring others to get healthy and fit!
