Healthcare or Wealthcare? 24 Million to Lose Insurance Under GOP Plan While Rich Get Big Tax Breaks

13:24
http://democracynow.org - A startling new report from the Congressional Budget Office is projecting 24 million people will lose health insurance coverage by 2026 under the Republican plan to replace the Affordable Care Act. Fourteen million people would lose health insurance in the next year alone. While the White House rejected the CBO findings, Politico is reporting the White House’s own analysis predicts 26 million people will lose coverage under the bill over the next decade. According to the CBO, the bill would reduce the deficit by $337 billion, but one of the biggest beneficiaries of the Republican bill will be millionaires. A new study by the Tax Policy Center shows people in the top 0.1 percent would get a tax cut of about $207,000 under the plan. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi accused Republicans of attempting to push through the biggest transfer of wealth in the nation’s history. We speak to Elisabeth Benjamin, vice president of Health Initiatives at the Community Service Society of New York and co-founder of the Health Care for All New York campaign. How tax breaks help the rich

Trump and the GOP have proposed tax plans that will give massive tax breaks to the wealthy while it remains unclear if the middle class will get a tax benefit. Deductions give a greater proportion of tax breaks to people with higher incomes. The same charitable contribution from two different incomes will benefit the higher wage earner, because deductions give tax breaks in proportion with tax brackets. Other countries have eliminated certain tax deductions in favor of tax credits. Credits give breaks in proportion to the amount you give, not the amount you owe. There are two kinds of income in the US. We tax wage income at a higher rate than income earned in stocks and bonds. That means people who get their income from capital gains and stock market interest pay fewer taxes than the same income of someone who works for a paycheck.

The Progressive Income Tax: A Tale of Three Brothers

05:00
"The Progressive Income Tax" is one of those economic terms that gets bandied about, but few actually know what it means or how it works. This tale of three similar brothers with three different incomes (but one shared expense) helps explain the tax system under which we live. Adapted from an article by noted investor and economist, Kip Hagopian, and narrated by actress Carolyn Hennesy of "General Hospital" and "True Blood" fame, this animated story will change the way you think about how you pay your taxes.  Donate today to PragerU! http://l.prageru.com/2ylo1Yt Joining PragerU is free! They were raised in the same home, with the same parents, had the same IQ, same skills and same opportunities. Each was married and had two children. They were all carpenters making $25 per hour. While they were very similar in all these respects, they had different priorities. For example, Tom, chose to work 20 hours per week, while his brother, Dick worked 40 hours and Harry 60. It should also be noted that Harry's wife worked full time as an office manager for a salary of $50,000. Dick's wife sold real estate part time 10 hours a week and made $25,000 per year. Tom's wife did not work. Tom and Dick spent all of their family income. Since they paid into Social Security they figured, they didn't need to save for retirement. Harry and his wife, on the other hand, had, over many years, put away money each month and invested it in stocks and bonds. Here's how it worked out: Tom made $25,000 a year, Dick and his wife made $75,000 and Harry and his wife, $150,000. When a new housing development opened up in their community, the brothers decided to buy equally-priced homes on the same private street. One day the brothers decided to pool their funds for the purpose of improving their street. Concerned about crime and safety, and wanting a more attractive setting for their homes, the three families decided to install a security gate at the street's entrance; repave the street's surface; and enhance the lighting and landscaping. The work was done for a total cost of $30,000. Harry assumed they would divide the bill three ways, each brother paying $10,000. But Tom and Dick objected. "Why should we pay the same as you?" they said. "You make much more money than we do." Harry was puzzled. "What does that have to do with anything?" he asked. "My family makes more money because my wife and I work long hours, and because we have saved some of the money we've earned to make additional money from investments. Why should we be penalized for that?" "Harry, you can work and save all you like" Tom countered. "But my wife and I want to enjoy ourselves now, not 25 years from now." "Fine, Tom. Do what you want. It's a free country. But why should I have to pay for that? "I can't believe your being so... unbrotherly," Tom argued. "You have a lot of money and I don't. I thought you'd be more generous." At this point, Dick, the peacemaker in the family, entered the conversation. "I've got an idea," Dick said. "Our combined income is $250,000, and $30,000 is 12 percent of that amount. Why don't we each pay that percentage of our income? Under that formula, Tom would pay $3,000, I would pay $9,000, and Harry would pay $18,000." "I have a much better idea," said Tom. "And one that's fairer than what you're proposing." For the complete script, visit https://www.prageru.com/videos/progressive-income-tax-tale-three-brothers

Land of the trumps home of the poorly educated 25 Healthcare, the un-affordable plan and other taxes

Land of the trumps home of the poorly educated 25 Healthcare, the un-affordable plan Breaking news overnight! Republicans reveal their long-awaited replacement for Obamacare. House Republicans roll out a revamped health care plan, it is finally here, oh yes the Republican plan to replace Obamacare is public. This is the American Health Care Act. Estimates from the CBO (Congressional Budget Office), released on March 13th, 2017, indicate that by 2026 more than 24 million Americans will lose their health insurance coverage under the new AHCA (American Healthcare Act), also known as “Trumpcare”. This estimate is thought to be considerably higher than what was anticipated and a significant portion of those individuals losing coverage would be Americans currently enrolled in Medicaid. Most of those individuals would see their benefits cut in 2020, a much shorter timeline than the remainder of the individuals and families within that estimate put forth by the CBO. Insurance for older people would be more expensive under Trumpcare than Obamacare. Under Trumpcare, insurance carriers are permitted to charge older Americans five-times more per month than a younger person. Under Obamacare they are permitted to charge no more than three-times more (Medicare). cnn fox news trump speech donald trump msnbc

The GOP Fix for Obamacare: Rich Get Tax Breaks While Millions of Others Lose Healthcare

16:54
http://democracynow.org - House Republicans have unveiled long-awaited legislation to repeal much of the Affordable Care Act—also known as Obamacare—including its expansion of the Medicaid program for the poor. The proposal includes a large tax break for insurance companies that pay their CEOs over $500,000 per year. It also defunds Planned Parenthood and eliminates abortion coverage. The Republican proposal does retain Obamacare’s requirement that insurers cover people with pre-existing conditions. However, it scraps the revenue-generating mechanism that makes this possible: the individual mandate, which required all Americans to sign up for health insurance or pay a fee. President Donald Trump and fellow Republicans have repeatedly promised to repeal and replace Obamacare, but their efforts have faced internal divisions as well as sustained outcry from constituents at town hall meetings across the country. For more, we speak with John McDonough, professor at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He is the former executive director of Health Care for All in Massachusetts, which played a key role in the passage of the 2006 Massachusetts health reform law. FINALLY Senate GOP tax reform bill gets RID of Obamacare individual mandate, returning health freedo

05:12
Trump Breaking News Network - FINALLY: Senate GOP tax reform bill gets RID of Obamacare individual mandate, returning health freedom to Americans. Earlier this year the Republican-controlled Senate was responsible for killing off a full repeal-and-replacement of Obamacare, leading many to question whether the GOP was capable of leading and keeping key campaign promises. Now, however, Republican senators appear set to at least eliminate the very unpopular individual mandate, which forces all Americans to buy a product — health insurance — for the first time in U.S. history. As reported by CNBC: The proposed Republican tax reform bill will include repeal of Obamacare’s individual mandate requiring most Americans to have some form of health insurance or pay a tax penalty, GOP leaders said Tuesday. The decision means that Republicans, yet again in 2017, will attempt to gut a key element of the Affordable Care Act. “We’re optimistic that inserting individual mandate repeal would be helpful,” said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. on Tuesday afternoon after a lunch meeting with the Republican conference. Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., added, “I’m pleased the Senate Finance Committee has accepted my proposal to repeal the Obamacare individual mandate in the tax legislation.” “Repealing the mandate pays for more tax cuts for working families and protects them from being fined by the IRS for not being able to afford insurance that Obamacare made unaffordable in the first place,” Cotton continued. “I urge the House to include the mandate repeal in their tax legislation.” Other Republican leaders were also optimistic and said that getting rid of the onerous mandate, which many believe has led to sharp increases in health premiums, would be a huge money-saver for tens of millions of Americans at the lower end of the income spectrum. “We’re going to repeal the tax on poor Americans,” said Majority Whip John Cornyn, R-Texas, adding that most Americans who pay a penalty for not having health insurance — which is also a component of Obamacare — are lower income earners. Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., told The Washington Post that there were 50 Republicans in the chamber willing to support getting rid of the mandate. That’s enough for passage given that Vice President Mike Pence would cast the tie-breaking vote in favor of repeal. The deal to get rid of the individual mandate didn’t come completely free to taxpayers, however. Thune said there was an agreement to pass another measure known as Alexander-Murray, “which would restore key federal subsidy reimbursements to Obamacare insurers cut off last month by President Donald J. Trump, CNBC reported. Naturally, Democrats were dismissive and critical of the effort — not just because they gave us Obamacare in the first place without a single Republican vote, but because as the real party of big government, they see nothing wrong with imposing as many government-mandated costs on the American people as possible. (Related: Obamacare exchanges hit with over 50 percent fail rate; feds claim the worse the glitches, the bigger the success!) What’s more, Democrats are far less willing to support a little concept we like to call “health freedom” — in this case, the freedom for individuals themselves to decide whether or not they want to spend their money on health insurance, and in what amount. “They’re cutting taxes on the wealthy and taking health care from millions and raising premiums on millions of others all to reduce taxes on the rich,” said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-New York, in sounding like a broken record. In fact, the plan would save Americans vast sums of money rather than force them to spend vast sums of money on outsized health insurance they neither want nor can use, thanks to the onerous regulatory regime contained in their Affordable Care Act. Since Obamacare became the law of the land, health insurance premiums have skyrocketed, along with out-of-pocket deductibles and other expenses — two things that Obama and Democrats promised their law wouldn’t do. ----------------------------------------------------------- MAKE DONATIONS HERE http://trumpbreakingnewsnetwork.net/donation ----------------------------------------------------------- Source: https://www.naturalnews.com/2017-11-14-finally-senate-gop-tax-reform-bill-gets-rid-of-obamacare-individual-mandate-returning-health-freedom-to-americans.html Please subscribe and share on your social media. Why Are American Health Care Costs So High?

07:53
In which John discusses the complicated reasons why the United States spends so much more on health care than any other country in the world, and along the way reveals some surprising information, including that Americans spend more of their tax dollars on public health care than people in Canada, the UK, or Australia. Who's at fault? Insurance companies? Drug companies? Malpractice lawyers? Hospitals? Or is it more complicated than a simple blame game? (Hint: It's that one.) For a much more thorough examination of health care expenses in America, I recommend this series at The Incidental Economist: http://theincidentaleconomist.com/wordpress/what-makes-the-us-health-care-system-so-expensive-introduction/ The Commonwealth Fund's Study of Health Care Prices in the US: http://www.commonwealthfund.org/~/media/Files/Publications/Issue%20Brief/2012/May/1595_Squires_explaining_high_hlt_care_spending_intl_brief.pdf Some of the stats in this video also come from this New York Times story: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/02/health/colonoscopies-explain-why-us-leads-the-world-in-health-expenditures.html?pagewanted=all This is the first part in what will be a periodic series on health care costs and reforms leading up to the introduction of the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, in 2014.

Trumpcare: Billionaire Tax Cut Disguised As Healthcare Plan

07:08
The AHCA is going to kill thousands of Americans and bankrupt thousands more so the owner class can have an even bigger tax cut than they’re already going to get. Cenk Uygur and John Iadarola, hosts of The Young Turks, discuss. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. http://www.tytnetwork.com/join "Senate Republican leadership released a draft of its long-awaited healthcare bill Thursday, ending weeks of speculation and a secretive process that frustrated Democrats and even some Republicans. The legislation — called the Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017 — would roll back much of the Affordable Care Act, the healthcare law better known as Obamacare, including various tax provisions. It would also scale back funding that goes toward health coverage for low-income Americans and tax credits for middle-income earners who purchase their own health insurance, according to the draft released Thursday. The plan would also provide funding designed to help stabilize the Obamacare insurance markets in the near term and funnel money through programs to cut off access to funding for abortion providers.”* Read more here: http://www.businessinsider.com/senate-healthcare-bill-trumpcare-ahca-details-2017-6 Hosts: Cenk Uygur, John Iadarola Cast: Cenk Uygur, John Iadarola *** The Largest Online News Show in the World. Trump Tax Reform Explained

14:23
After failing to repeal and replace Obamacare, Trump is turning to tax reform. Ana Kasparian, Bren Mankiewicz, Michael Shure, the hosts of The Young Turks, show you what’s in his plan. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. Join TYT: https://goo.gl/v8E64M “INDIANAPOLIS — President Trump on Wednesday began a full-throttle push to slash taxes and salvage what is left of his foundering legislative agenda in Congress, proposing a politically challenging array of tax cuts for individuals and businesses that would constitute the most sweeping changes to the federal tax code in decades. Mr. Trump, smarting from the latest defeat this week of his efforts to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, cast his tax plan as an economic imperative and the fulfillment of a promise to his coalition of working-class supporters to deliver benefits in the form of lower taxes, better jobs and higher wages. But the president offered few details about how working people might benefit from a plan that has explicit and substantial rewards for wealthy people and corporations, including the elimination of taxes on large inheritances and deep reductions in the rates paid by businesses large and small. “This is a revolutionary change, and the biggest winners will be middle class workers as jobs start pouring into our country, as companies start competing for American labor, and as wages continue to grow,” Mr. Trump told hundreds of supporters in a nondescript building at the Indiana State Fair Grounds. “This will be the lowest top marginal income tax rate for small and midsize businesses in more than 80 years.” Read more here: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/27/us/politics/trump-tax-cut-plan-middle-class-deficit.html Hosts: Ana Kasparian, Bren Mankiewicz, Michael Shure Cast: Ana Kasparian, Bren Mankiewicz, Michael Shure *** The Largest Online News Show in the World. House tax writers weigh plan to suspend Obamacare insurer tax

02:19
House Republican tax writers are considering delaying Obamacare's health insurance tax for only limited markets next year, leaving out small businesses and possibly private Medicaid plans, according to sources on and off Capitol Hill. They would suspend it for all markets in 2019. Republicans on the Ways and Means Committee are worried that it will be difficult for the small businesses to send prospective savings from delaying the tax back to consumers. Industry sources, however, say it is possible. Excluding small business could pose a political problem: Insurance plans covering large companies, individuals in the Obamacare markets and Medicare Advantage plans would see a tax break, but insurers covering small business would not. The fate of the health insurance tax is being decided in negotiations over a year-end bill. Also in the mix is a two-year delay of Obamacare's medical device tax, loosening the restrictions on health savings accounts, and delay of the Cadillac tax. Negotiations are in the early stages, according to several sources, citing the threat of a government shutdown and the conference on the GOP's tax bill. “Members are working to deliver as much relief as possible from the health insurance tax — as soon as possible," a Ways and Means Committee spokesperson said. On the Senate side, the tax bill has pushed the Obamacare tax delays to the back burner. Senate Finance Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) said the panel hasn’t considered delay legislation yet. “But we’ll have to get into it, there’s no question,” he said.

Rep. In response to the GOP tax plan, which eliminate the individual health insurance mandate beginning in 2019, motions have been made in Connecticut to reinstate it at the state level. Rep. Sampson believes this is simply a tax on low-income citizens and individuals who are making a personal decision not to purchase a product.
