How To Replace Treadmill Rear Belt Roller (Noisy Worn Bearings)
The bearings on the rear roller of my Sole F85 treadmill started making scary knocking, chirping noises. They were obviously worn out after a couple thousand miles of running. My treadmill was still under warranty for parts, so I called Sole, and they sent me a new roller. In this video, I show you how to remove the old roller and install the new one. If your treadmill is not under warranty, this video will still might be helpful. You can remove the roller, replace the bearings, re-install the roller and adjust the belt. The bearings on this roller are labelled "6203Z". Doing a google search, I found a bunch of places selling these bearings. Most pains are caused by dysfunction at joints above or below the site of the pain. In the case of the knee, you have to look up to the hip or down to the ankle for the real cause of the pain. Patellofemoral exercises are usually the focus of treatment for knee pain. They even are considered the best workout for knee pain. That's a mistake. There's more to getting rid of knee soreness than just working on that VMO. Knee pain on squats is common when there are tracking issues in the kneecap. Most often, weak hips (glute medius exactly) cause the femur to track incorrectly. You want to do exercises for knee pain that strengthen your glutes. I show you the easiest and best way to do this so you can start fixing your knee discomfort and soreness starting now. Knee Exercises to Strengthen Muscles around the Patella to Avoid Knee Pain
Health & Fitness Expert, Aliesa George http://www.centerworks.com This video shows you a quick and easy exercise you can practice almost anywhere to help strengthen the muscles around the knee cap and learn how to stabilize the knee joint to avoid locking the knee. http://www.Centerworks.com/blog I like to call this the Kneecap Dance, but in technical terms the Knee cap is called the Patella, so this is actually a Patella tracking exercise that has the added benefit of helping to strengthen the quadriceps and stabilize the knee. Executed correctly, you'll be improving the muscle control and support for your knee joint and learning how not to jam the kneecap back and cause pain or locked knees. Ok, are you ready? Id encourage you to either wear shorts to get started, or roll your pant legs up so that you can see your knees. Sit down on the floor, or a mat, and since our focus isn't on posture today...if you want to sit with your back against a wall so you only have to pay attention to your knees and not worry about your core and back muscles working to help you sit tall... I'm fine with that. Extend both legs straight out in front of you. If you're feeling a hamstring stretch there's another muscle that needs some attention to help your knees feel better! If you want to take a bit of the stretch off, sit up on a phone book, or maybe on a footstool or in a chair. Its important that you have straight, but unlocked knees to practice this knee exercise. Alright, to start I like to put my fingers on my kneecap and just gently wiggle it around. You want to be sure that you can identify the difference between when it is relaxed, and when it is lifted. If its relaxed and has some wiggle room, you're in a good starting position. Take your hands and stroke upwards along the inside and outside of the thigh, starting along the sides of the knee, and lifting to about mid-thigh. This action uses your hands to cue the muscles of the quadriceps along the front and sides of the thigh to lift the kneecap. If you're watching your knee while this is happening, you want to look and notice that your knee cap is lifting up as the quadriceps muscle fires. Lift, hold for several seconds, then release and watch the knee cap slide back to its resting, relaxed position. Now that you've got your knee cap moving - here's the challenge: Place one hand under each knee or both hands under one knee if you're practicing with one leg at a time. Now do your knee cap lifting exercise. Did you feel your leg press back into your hands as your kneecap lifted? If your answer is yes! You are locking your knee as you straighten your leg, which places more pressure and potential pain on the knee joint. So keep your hand behind your knee until you can move your kneecaps and keep the leg bones straight and still. If you can lift your kneecaps and your leg doesn't move. Congratulations, you've figured out how to do the exercise correctly. That's it! Its a simple knee exercise that you really can do just about anywhere. How To Replace Worn Treadmill Roller Bearings - Treadmill Repair
The bearings on my treadmill went bad and were making horrible scary noises. But my treadmill was still under warranty, so they sent me a brand new rear roller. I replaced the old roller with the new one. On the treadmills I had owned, it has always been the rear roller bearings that have gone bad. Looking at my current treadmill, a Sole F85, the front roller is larger and has larger bearings. So I think that is why they don't fail as fast as the rear roller bearings. But since I had the old roller with the worn bearings, I decided to have some fun and make a new video. So in this video, I show you how to replace the bearings on your treadmill. Afterall, when the warranty expires, you are the warranty. I bought the blind hole bearing puller I use in the video at Harbor Freight, but you can rent them cheaper at many places including auto parts stores. The bearings that were on the roller were labelled 6203Z, and the brand name was TMT. I searched for bearings and found many made in China bearings for cheap, but I had also read many poor reviews for bearings made in China. I found some Nachi (made in Japan) bearings on eBay for less than $6 each and ordered those. The model number on these is 6203ZZE. The Nachi bearings had many great reviews and are supposed to be good quality bearings. I am not an expert on bearings, but I think you want to get "deep groove ball bearing" type bearings for a treadmill. And also bearings that are sealed to keep dirt from getting in them. How to Strengthen Your Knees

Exercise can keep your knees healthy by strengthening the muscles surrounding the joints. Warning Always consult a physician before attempting any exercise plan. Step 1: Strengthen quadriceps Do quadriceps exercises. Strong quads make for strong knees. Sit in a chair, back straight, and place a rolled towel under your knees. Step 2: Lift leg to horizontal position Slowly lift one leg until it is horizontal to the ground, hold it for three seconds, and then slowly return the leg to the beginning position. Repeat with your opposite leg, working up to three sets of 12 to 15 repetitions. Tip Joint supplements like glucosamine can help keep your joints supple. Step 3: Perform quad leg lifts Perform quad leg lifts by lying flat on your back on the floor. Bend one knee to a 90-degree angle. Step 4: Lift straight leg Lift the straight leg slowly until it is parallel with the bent knee, hold it for three seconds, then slowly return it to the floor. Perform this 10 times, and then repeat with your opposite leg, working up to 10 repetitions. Tip Do not exercise the same muscle groups two days in a row. Step 5: Perform quad squats Perform 12 to 15 quad squats by slowly squatting, keeping your knees at a wider than 90 degree angle. Hold the position for one second, and then slowly return to a standing position. Step 6: Strengthen hamstrings Do hamstring exercises, which will help strengthen your knees. While on your stomach, place your left foot on your right heel. Step 7: Lift right heel Slowly lift your right heel up while resisting with your left foot. Hold the position for 10 seconds and return to the beginning position. Complete 10 repetitions; then repeat with your other leg. Did You Know? Female athletes are up to eight times more likely to suffer knee injuries than male athletes, possibly due to the different ways in which they react to fatigue.

DIY Gym Cable Machine - Full Build Log - Part 4of4
DIY Home Gym Adjustable Pulley Cable Machine Build Log Part 4 of 4 - Paint, Assembly & Demonstration Here's a video log of how I built my own adjustable cable machine for my home gym. These are widely available online but I couldn't find the one for me: - Very expensive - £475 was the cheapest retail machine I could find with a rotating and height adjustable pulley. - Size - You'll see in the video that my home gym is not the biggest! All of the retail machines I found we're totally floor standing and as such had large footprints to prevent them from tipping over. They would've taken up far too much space in my gym. - Capacity - All the adjustable retail units that I could find used weight stacks and the cheapest maxed out at around 70KG which is fine for most exercises but could easily be exceeded for lat work and there didn't seem to be any way to increase the maximum weight capacity. My design uses 1" bars to hold the weights so it can take standard home gym weight plates which you've probably already got and can be bought for next to nothing on ebay. As such it also has finer increments for weight adjustments which make it ideal for light weight rehab work. I'd like others to have a go at building one of these (or two for a crossover!) for their own home gyms. I had intended for the videos to be a full tutorial for anyone to have a go but realistically I think a maker would need to have some basic/intermediate DIY/fabrication experience, as although I've made sure to include all of the important steps, I can't possibly cover 100%. Also, for the significant cost savings to be viable, you'd need to already have a well stocked set of tools as you see me use in the video. That being said, I would invite anyone to give it a go! If you're going to build this then you will need to use the DWG file so you can take precise measurements and prints as and when you need them throughout the build. Basic Materials List: 40x40x2mm Mild steel welded box section for the main frame 50x50x2mm Mild steel welded box section for the weight plate mount and pulley mount 3mm Thick mild steel sheet for the base and all other plate pieces you see 1" 14AWG Mild steel tube for the weight plates M10 Part-threaded bolts, nuts, washers, rod etc Steel sleeves, M10 internal, 15mm external 95mm Pulleys, M10 hole. Pack of 10 from Ebay Hong Kong seller Plastic coated wire rope, 5mm overall diameter 8mm detent pin to secure the pulley assembly to its various heights on the frame Split pins to secure the pulley assembly hinge pin 5mm Wire rope clamps and carabiner 40mmx40mm Box section plastic end caps 2mm Plastic sheet to sleeve the weight and pulley assemblies Etch primer and gloss black top coat (approx 800ml of each) 4mm Thick mild steel spacer washers used to space pulleys from the frame according to the designs With the exception of the main steel order, all other parts were from ebay. Total material cost £196.92 I'll provide more details on all of the above if needed.

Knee Pain with Lunges (HERE’S YOUR SOLUTION!)
Train without pain and see faster results with ATHLEAN-X http://athleanx.com/x/less-pain-equals-more-gains Knee pain is one of the most common side effects when doing lunges. In fact, leg workouts are compromised most often by discomfort in the knees when doing the very leg exercises that are supposed to be helping in the first place. In this video, I show you how to correct one of the most common sources of knee joint pain in your leg workout, the forward lunge. The forward lunge is particularly harsh on the knee for a variety of reasons. First, with the foot beginning the exercise in an open chain position, there is less stability provided at the knee joint itself. An open chain leg exercise is one in which the working foot is not in contact with the ground or a similar stabile surface. As you can see in the initial phase of the lunge, your foot is in the air. Combine this with the fact that the knee is in a partially flexed position and you realize that there are increased eccentric loads being placed on both the quads and the tendons of the knee. When your foot finally makes contact with the ground, the ground reaction forces are directed up through the leg and borne by the already eccentrically stretched knee. For someone that is suffering from patellofemoral knee pain, this can feel like a sharp knife being driven into the knee joint. The next thing you want to consider is that the direction of the lunge, being forward, is placing a natural vector of the force anteriorly. This acts to drive more load into the anterior structures of the kneecap and puts additional strain on the patellar tendon and patella underneath. In a reverse lunge however, the knee on the working leg is supported from the very beginning of the exercise. With the foot placed in a closed chain position, you don’t have to worry about the shock factor that occurs when the foot strikes the ground as in the anterior lunge. The force is actually directed more vertical and back which helps to load the hip and the quad better, making this an even better exercise for helping to build bigger quads. Finally, with the hip slightly more flexed than in an anterior lunge, you help to put the rectus femoris on slack which eases some of the strain being borne across the patellar tendon in the knee. This helps to alleviate some of the knee pain commonly found when doing the regular lunge. As you can see, you don’t have to stop lunging all together if you get knee pain when doing lunges. You just have to alter the direction in which you’re lunging. It’s these kinds of modifications that make the difference between training and just working out. It can also be caused by weakness, tendonitis, or bursitis. In more severe cases, you might have injured your meniscus or ligaments. This video will show you some great stretches to keep the pressure from tight muscles off your knee joint. The first stretch is bending the knee, or knee flexion stretch. You can use a belt or dog leash to help you slide your foot towards you. You can do this 10 to 15 times with a little pause at the end stretch. Next you want to move your kneecap, or patella around. This is important because your patella is attached to your quadriceps tendon and your patellar tendon. When those are tight, it is hard to bend your knee. Your leg needs to be straight and relaxed. You can push the patella up and down, superior and inferior, and side-to-side, medial and lateral. You can do this for 2 to 3 minutes. Now you are going to stretch your calf muscle, or gastrocnemius muscle. Keep your leg straight, and take the belt or leash and place it on the ball of your foot. Relax your leg and then pull your foot towards you. Hold the stretch for 30 seconds, 3 times. Next is a hamstring stretch. There are many ways to stretch them, and you can check out the hamstring stretches video for other ways to stretch them. The most important part of this stretch is to keep your back straight. Many people try to curl their backs to be able to touch their toes. Your hamstrings are attached to what is called the ischial tuberosity, or your butt bone. So if you bend at your back, you are not going to get a good hamstring stretch. Try to bend at your hips. The last stretch will be on your stomach, or in prone. This will stretch your quadriceps muscle. Take a belt or dog leash and wrap around your foot/ankle. Take the strap and gently pull your foot towards your buttocks until you feel a stretch. Hold for 30 seconds and do it 3 times. How to Squat with Knee Pain - SQUAT FIX!! (Knee Pain No More!)

By activating the psoas you can stabilize the lumbar spine, establish the proper curve in this area and sit back deeper into the squat. By sitting deeper and backwards more you take the anterior pressure off of the knee that you would get by forgetting to do this. Have any type of knee pain at all (whether caused by patellar tendonitis, meniscal tears, etc) and this anterior driven force makes your problems that much greater. If you have knee pain at all, and have stayed away from squatting during your leg workouts then make sure you give this tip a try. Worst Leg Exercise Ever (WORSE THAN LEG EXTENSIONS!)
Stop beating up your body and start training like an athlete here http://athleanx.com/x/smart-workouts-backed-by-science When it comes to leg exercises, there are quite a few that can be labeled as pretty bad (when it comes to the risk reward of doing them). That said, only one of them can be crowned the worst leg exercise ever. The one featured in this leg workout video is even worse than leg extensions. The sissy squat (named after the legs of Sisyphus from Greek mythology) is hands down the worst thing you can do for your knees and patellar tendons. While this leg exercise can in fact help you to build bigger quads, it will also help to shred your patellar tendons like lettuce if you let it. The problem with the sissy squat is not that it places your knees over your toes (I go on to explain why that myth isn't exactly true) but because of what happens to the line of force through the knee as you do it. You can see that in a properly executed high bar squat, the knees will actually have to travel beyond the toes if you are to go down far enough. Keeping your knees behind your toes is an artificial way of doing squats and not conducive to proper biomechanics of the knees. Looking at the sissy squats again, it becomes quickly apparent why this leg exercise is the worst ever. It sends a great amount of force down through the kneecap and patellar tendon and removes the glutes and hamstrings from doing the job they prefer to do - supporting the quads during the squat. It's leg exercises like this that can lead to more harm than good. Again, can they produce results? Sure but they do so at the expense of the health of your legs and knees. For that reason, I cannot recommend this leg exercise in good conscience to my athletes or my viewers. Knee Exercises for Pain Free Leg Workouts (NO MORE PAIN!)
Build ripped, athletic legs without knee pain with this workout… http://athleanx.com/x/build-ripped-athletic-legs-without-joint-pain Performing leg workouts and leg exercises can be difficult when dealing with knee pain. In this video, I show you two very big reasons why this happens, and most importantly, what leg exercises you should start doing to eliminate the knee pain and build stronger legs. I put on my physical therapist hat for you to explain the nuances of each exercise and what it means for you depending on your particular source of knee pain. To start, you have to consider the type of knee pain you are dealing with. There are 4 very common sources of knee pain when working out. The first comes from the common osteoarthritis. This is the degeneration of the surfaces of the cartilage in the knee joint that often results in the bone on bone condition that can be painful during knee exercises and leg workouts. In general, exercise that cause you to drop down too low can be a problem for those that have this condition. The second common source of knee pain is patellar tendonitis or patellofemoral syndrome. This particular type of pain will cause knee dominant exercises that displace the tibia forward as you perform the movement to be very problematic. With this type of knee pain, you need to fill your leg workouts with exercises that keep your shin more vertical as you perform them. Likewise, having a torn ACL that has not been repaired successfully or not at all, will cause your knee to be unstable and susceptible to pain when performing certain leg exercises. When the ACL is not intact, your tibia will translate forward on your femur causing the knee to be unstable during leg exercises that cause the shin to tilt when performing them. As you’ll see in the video, this includes exercises like ass to grass squats and forward lunges. Finally, if your knee pain is coming from a torn meniscus, you will also want to be sure to control the depth of your leg exercises. Causing too much flexion at the knee (particularly under load) will cause a meniscus to become much more susceptible to being pinched and painful. You must select exercises that control the depth of your knee bend if you want to keep your leg workouts pain free. You can select from exercises such as reverse lunges, step ups or the bulgarian split squat as long as you step out far enough when setting up to perform it. Knee pain is a very common problem for those that work out. It becomes especially problematic when the pain you have in your knees prevents you from being able to do your leg workouts in the first place. This just leads to more weakness in your legs and knees which leads to more problems down the road. STABILUS Shows How to Replace your Vehicle's Lift Support
In this video, we will demonstrate, how to determine if you have a lift support beginning to fail. Lift Supports are a vital part of your vehicle when it comes to keeping your Car's Engine Hood, Lift Gate or Trunk open. However, over time your cars Original Equipment Manufacturer's lift support may begin to lose its strength or even fail. Stabilus replacement Lift Supports are designed to meet or surpass your original equipment manufacturer's specifications. You can easily tell if your lift support is not functioning properly if the door that the lift support is holding starts to slowly close after opening, or does not hold open the door at all. The replacement of the Lift Support rates a 2 on our scale of ease of installation. While this video will cover many of the essential steps in replacing a Lift Support, it is not a substitute for reading the instructions that are included with your Stabilus replacement Lift Support. Now, let's begin replacing your old lift support with your new Stabilus Lift Support. Remember to seek the assistance of someone to hold the lid open before you begin. Do not use a pole or rod to prop the lid open. Before removing old lift supports, examine any hardware provided to determine which components must be reused. Use the camera on your cell phone to take a picture of the mounting of the old lift supports, on both sides. Remove the old Lift Support one side at a time, once again with the help of someone Holding the lid open. Some lift supports are connected to the vehicle with a Plastic ball socket. To replace this type of Lift Support, Take a small screwdriver and pry back the spring while tightly pulling the old Lift Support away. Be careful not to detach the spring clip from the vehicle. Clean the mounting area of the Lift support with a shop rag. Now, Securely install your new Stabilus replacement Lift Support, once again one side at a time, using any of the old mounting hardware only as needed. The new lift support must be installed in the same position as the old Lift Support unless the instructions included with your Stabilus Lift Support recommends otherwise. Attach the new Stabilus Lift Support by pushing the socket into the mount until it snaps into place. Some Lift Supports are mounted using eyelets with bolts or retaining clips. Follow the same procedures in replacing the lift supports. With your new lift support installed, give it a test. It should open and close the lid with little effort. How to Squat with Patellar Tendonitis (NO MORE PAIN!)

In this video, I show you how to squat with a chronic or acute case of patellar tendonitis that is giving you stabbing, sharp pain in your knees every time you bend them to perform another rep. The issue that is going on here is that your tendons in your knees are reluctant to allow the muscles in the legs (mostly the glutes, hamstrings and then the quads) from handling the load of the squat. Most often this is due to a lack of confidence in the strength of these muscles to handle the load that you have on the bar (particularly in the bottom half of the squat). This can also be aggravated even more by a chronic reliance on the tendons to support the weight rather than letting the muscles lift the weight. This is particularly true when you tend to squat by bending the knees first rather than hinging at the hips. You teach your body faulty biomechanics that cause the knees to become too reliant on their tendons to handle the weights. The first step in breaking this cycle is to relearn the squat from the ground up, and as seen here, perform a variation of the squat that allows you to achieve better form with minimal effort. Enter the box squat. The key difference between the box squat and the regular squat (regardless of whether it is a high bar or low bar squat we are talking about) is that the box provides a safety net for your legs which allows you to delegate the load from the tendons to the muscles that should be handling this in the first place. The other benefit of the box is that it provides you with a bottom point for determining parallel without having to guess on each and every rep. Most of the time, those that squat without a box or bench are going to cut short the depth with each subsequent rep (especially as fatigue sets in). Not on the box squat. Here you have the tactile cue of the bench to ensure that you are getting low enough to establish a brief contact of your butt to the bench. The depth you are looking for is one that allows your butt to reach fully parallel. While there is some disagreement as to where this position is. The easiest way to think about it is when the crease in your upper thigh and hip is on the same level as your kneecap. When this happens, you have squatted to parallel and do not need to go any further to see gains. Training hard is required if you want to see muscle gains in your legs or anywhere else for that matter. That said, if you are trying to do this while combatting the pain that is present in your knees, hips, and other joints it is going to be that much more difficult to load up the bar.
