9 Signs You Have An Unhealthy Gut

04:37
If we are serious about maintaining a healthy body and mind, we would be wise to pay attention to the health of our gut. Our gastrointestinal tract is an architectural wonder. Good bacteria flourishes within the twists and turns of the colon, and is tasked with many functions. Some are responsible for giving a boost to our immune system, convert food into energy, eliminate waste and toxins. So our gut is under a lot of pressure to perform well. But when bad bacteria storms in, a gut imbalance will occur. Suddenly hormones are off balance, which can leave us vulnerable to a wide range of health issues. Most of us don’t know there’s a fight between good and evil bacteria until a state of war has been declared in our rumbling intestinal tract. In fact, a gut imbalance has been linked to hormonal imbalances, autoimmune diseases and more. In today’s video we’ll examine 9 warning signs that can alert us of a battle brewing. 1. Lack of Energy Sleepless nights are one sign. If digestion is having trouble, your metabolism will be slowed down. Therefore, the chemical breakdown of food for energy production isn’t going as planned. Bad gut bacteria can rob your body from the nutrients it needs. And some toxins that should be eliminated are scampering into other areas of your body and they are up to no good. 2. Digestive Issues Some signals are obvious: bloating, gas, diarrhea are a few warning signs. Your good gut bacteria are struggling mightily to break down food. Some gas is normal, but excessive gas that causes bloating and burping are signaling there’s trouble below. Acid reflux, IBS, and colitis are other problems that are a direct result of an invasion of bad bacteria. 3. Complexion Problems Once those bad bacteria are wreaking havoc, gut inflammations can trigger inflammations elsewhere – especially on the face. If you notice a flair up of acne, rosacea, eczema or psoriasis, it may be time to neutralize your gut. 4. Vitamin and Mineral Deficiencies To squeeze every precious nutrient and mineral from food, the gut needs to be functioning properly. Your cells depend upon them for growth, energy and repair. 5. Autoimmune Diseases A malfunctioning gut has been significantly linked to autoimmune diseases which include lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn’s disease. 6. Onset of Diabetes An unhealthy gut can also trigger the onset of Type 2 diabetes. Patients with this disease have high levels of bad bacteria in their gut. 7. Mood Issues Anytime bad bacteria are in control, you can be sure toxins will be produced. And they can disrupt the normal production of the happy hormone – serotonin – and other neurotransmitters that can elevate your mood. Instead, you are bombarded with mood swings, stress, anxiety and depression. 8. Difficulty Sleeping Deep within your gut are warehouses that stash and regulate serotonin. Without this hormone to induce and regulate sleep, you will experience a restless night of tossing and turning. 9. Stubborn Weight Those who are obese or carrying around too much weight have a different ratio of intestinal bacteria from those who maintain a healthy weight. A body that’s not properly digesting and absorbing fat will find some place to store it. Tips to build and maintain a healthy gut: Eat less sugar, which contributes to the growth of bad gut bacteria; Chew food slowly, thoroughly; Stay hydrated; Undergo a gentle detoxification monthly to eliminate toxins; Consume more probiotic foods (or supplements) to restore the balance of gut bacteria; Disclaimer: The materials and the information contained on Natural Cures channel are provided for general and educational purposes only and do not constitute any legal, medical or other professional advice on any subject matter. How To Lower Blood Sugar Immediately

05:00
You can find Sensolin here: https://www.truthnutra.com/sensolin-yt In the next 60 seconds I'm going to show how to lower blood sugar immediately and naturally increase insulin sensitivity. So first off, let's take a look at… What is insulin? Insulin is a hormone that's produced by the pancreas, that helps turn sugars from carbohydrates to energy. It also allows the body to store glucose for future use. The muscles and liver store the sugars as glycogen, which causes muscle cells to expand. Likewise, fat cells store the sugar as triglycerides and may expand as well. Now, what is insulin sensitivity, and insulin resistance. Insulin sensitivity is how receptive the body is to the insulin it produces. When the body is properly sensitive to insulin, it uses that insulin produced and effectively removes it from the bloodstream, making energy and storing glucose for later. A healthy body is sensitive to insulin, which means it needs to make less insulin to stay healthy. Better yet, being more insulin sensitive allows the body to utilize carbohydrates properly for more energy, building muscle, and will also help the body store less fat. What's even better, is that greater insulin sensitivity is going to lead to higher T levels in men. Now what are some signs that a person might have poor insulin sensitivity? Or have developed insulin resistance? Higher insulin levels can cause weight gain, higher insulin levels can cause aging, higher insulin levels can cause reduced T, higher insulin levels increases cravings for junk foods, and also leads to blood pressure issues. With all of this in mind, for anyone who feels as though they're one of those people who is constantly riding the blood sugar roller coaster, with blood sugar all over the place, depending on what you eat, when you eat, and you get hangry and get crazy when they don't have food, For everyone who needs help with blood sugar control and needs to increase their insulin sensitivity naturally, and for the good people out there who don't want to go take drugs to achieve this, I've got 3 natural compounds to use today to simply, and quickly increase insulin sensitivity naturally and get control over those cravings once again. Now the first thing is what's known as berberine. Now berberine is an alkaloid extract taken from various plants and it's been used in traditional chinese medicine for centuries. Some of the benefits of berberine include, anti-inflammatory and antidiabetic effects, improved intestinal health, improved cholesterol numbers, increased exercise performance, and decreased blood pressure. Now the recommended dosage for berberine is between 500-1500mg/day. It's also recommended to take this dosage split between 2-3 times throughout the day. Now next up, we have cinnamon ceylon oil. Cinnamon is commonly used as a spice but it's also known for its numerous biological effects on the body. The best type of cinnamon is ceylon because it has lower coumarin content. Cinnamon has a ton of benefits, including reducing the rate at which glucose enters the body, improved glucose usage in cells, lower fasting blood sugar, and improved cholesterol levels. Now the recommended dosage for daily cinnamon intake is between 1-6g per day. And the third compound, the third natural ingredient that you can consume on a daily basis is actually what's known as chromium. Chromium is an essential mineral that's consumed through your diet. It's found in plant products and grains. The benefits of chromium include, a regulation of glucose metabolism, improved insulin sensitivity, it is used to treat glucose intolerance in type 2 diabetes, leads to a great reduction in appetite, improved symptoms of depression, and a noticeable increase in libido with the right amount of chromium. Now the daily recommended dosage of chromium is between 800-1000 mcg. At this point, some of y'all are probably wondering: where do we get all these things? One option is to search around on Amazon and try to find them, but we did at Truth Nutra is that we put together a supplement known as Sensolin (hold up sensolin bottle). Sensolin is specifically designed with these three ingredients at the exact clinical dosages shown in human studies to actually work, to actually help regulate blood glucose and to help with insulin sensitivity. Now we put them all in here, it's a very simple supplement. And it actually works. 5 Amazing Foods You Can Eat When You Have Gastroparesis

03:01
Gastroparesis, commonly known as delayed emptying of the stomach, usually affects people who have diabetes. Damage to the vagus nerve that regulates the movement of the stomach muscles is responsible for this condition. Poor stomach motility slows down emptying of the stomach and affects digestion. Feeling full after eating small amount of food, abdominal pain and bloating, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting are common symptoms of gastroparesis. Dietary changes help in minimizing the symptoms of gastroparesis. High fiber diet, though considered essential for diabetics without gastroparesis for blood sugar management, is not recommended for gastroparesis patients. Instead they should eat foods that are easily digestible and can move through the stomach with ease. 1. Juice Juice is well tolerated by people with gastroparesis. Drink vegetable juice and juices of fruits such as apple, pineapple, prune, cranberry and grape. However, citrus juices should be avoided. Juices can easily pass through the stomach and help in meeting the body’s demand for vitamins and minerals. 2. Soup If you are suffering from severe nausea and vomiting, sip small amounts of bouillon-like soup broth throughout the day. Take about two ounces of the soup every 30 to 60 minutes. The soup helps in restoring the hydration and electrolyte balance of the body. 3. Milk And Dairy Low fat milk and dairy are usually well-tolerated by people with gastroparesis. Fat-free or low fat milk, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese and buttermilk are good sources of protein. However, whole fat milk, cream, cream cheese and yogurt with fruits and nuts should be avoided. 4. Animal Protein People with gastroparesis can take ground meat, fish and eggs. Avoid the fatty portions of the meat. However, animal protein is more suitable for breakfast and lunch. Do not take more than two ounces of animal protein for dinner. This helps in improving the fasting blood sugar level in diabetics with gastroparesis. 5. Vegetables In case of mild gastroparesis, low-fiber vegetables can be added to the diet. Finely shredded raw carrot, peeled and deseeded cucumber, and well-cooked, soft and pureed carrots, cauliflower, beets, squash, sweet potato and peas can be eaten when the symptoms of gastroparesis are mild. 9 Home Remedies for Natural Colon Cleansing

05:16
The colon is a very important organ in the digestive system. Its job is to take the water, salt, vitamins, and nutrients out of food that cannot be digested, break down food that was not digested in the small intestine, and remove solid waste from the body. Before starting any colon cleansing treatment, ask your doctor for instructions, especially if you are taking any medications or suffering from any health condition. 1. Water The best thing you can do for colon cleansing is drink a lot of water. It is important to drink at least 10 to 12 glasses of water a day. This will help your body flush out the harmful toxins and waste in a natural way. Drinking a lot of water will also help the natural peristaltic action, helping the food move through the digestive system. Also, water is important to keep your body well hydrated. Together with water you can drink fresh fruit and vegetable juices. 2. Apple Juice Another great thing for colon cleansing is fresh apple juice. If you drink apple juice all the time, it can help bowel movements, break down toxins, and boost the health of the liver and the digestive system. 3. Lemon Juice Lemons are good for the digestive system because they have antioxidant properties and are full of vitamin C. For this reason, lemon juice is great for colon cleansing. Mix the juice of one lemon, a pinch of sea salt, and a little honey in a glass of lukewarm water. Drink this mixture in the morning on an empty stomach. This will give you more energy, better bowel movement, and better skin condition. 4. Raw Vegetable Juice For colon cleansing, it is important to keep away from processed and cooked foods for one or two days. Instead of eating solid foods, drink fresh vegetable juice a few times a day. Green vegetables are good because they have chlorophyll, which helps force toxins out of the body. They also have vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and enzymes which will keep your body healthy, and give you energy. You can also drink herbal teas. 5. Fiber-rich Foods Eating foods that are full of fiber will also help cleanse the colon of bad toxins. Fiber will keep the stool soft and help bowel movement, which helps the body force out waste products. Foods that are full of fiber will also get rid of any kind of intestinal problem. You can add a lot of fiber to your diet by eating fresh fruits like raspberries, pears, and apples, and fresh vegetables like artichokes, peas, and broccoli. There is also a lot of fiber in cereals, whole grains, nuts, beans and seeds. 6. Yogurt Eating fresh yogurt all the time is a good way to keep the colon healthy. Because yogurt is a probiotic food, it can bring good bacteria into the gut and help digestion. It can also fight inflammatory bowel disease. This is especially true of yogurts that have live and active cultures. 7. Flaxseed Because flaxseed is full of omega- 3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and natural fibers, adding it to your diet is a great way to cleanse your colon. Flaxseed will take in the water and then swell in the colon, and help force out toxins and mucus as the waste passes through. It can also block cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. 8. Aloe Vera Aloe vera is known for killing toxins and acts as a laxative. This makes it a great colon cleanser. Aloe vera gel can also treat other health problems, like headaches, skin infection, diarrhea, gastric pain, and constipation. Add the juice of one lemon to fresh aloe vera gel and put the mixture in the blender to make a few ounces of smooth juice. Drink it a few times a day for a few days. 9. Ginger Ginger is a common ingredient that can lessen bloating, help the colon work properly, and keep it free from waste and bad toxins. It helps digestion by making the digestive juices flow. You can use ginger in any form, such as grated, as a juice, or as cut up pieces for colon cleansing. All It Takes Is One Boiled Egg to Control Sugar in The Blood

02:22
The blood sugar levels in your body rise after every time you eat something, especially if you are a Type 2 diabetic or insulin resistant. It is not easy to learn how to get your blood sugar levels under control. It can take a newly diagnosed patient several months to figure out what they can and cannot eat. While figuring this out, a patient with Type 2 diabetes will likely have some spikes in their sugar levels. Having high blood sugar is important to take seriously, as it can cause some serious health issues. If you have high blood sugar for too long, it can cause you to be more at risk for heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, vision issues and nervous system problems. Luckily, there are many foods that you can consume which will help you to control your blood sugar levels naturally, without medication. One such remedy only contains three ingredients to keep your blood sugar stabilized. You will need: - Apple Cider Vinegar. - Water. - Hard-boiled egg. Hard-boiled eggs are a great snack if you have diabetes because it is so high in protein. The protein in the egg helps you to feel full without causing your blood sugar to rise quickly. Protein slows down your digestive system and your body s absorption of glucose. This is extremely beneficial to people with diabetes. Apple cider vinegar makes your body more sensitive to insulin and helps your body from raising your blood sugar quickly. This is especially true after eating food that is high in starch. There was one study done in particular that showed positive results with Type 2 diabetics when they took apple cider vinegar before eating a meal high in glucose. How to do it: - Boil an egg in the afternoon, and peel it. - Pierce the egg a 2-3 times using a toothpick. - Put the egg in a mason jar and pour just enough vinegar over it so that it is completely covered. - Close the jar and let it soak overnight in your refrigerator. - The next morning, drink a glass of warm water and eat your egg. - Repeat this every day. Soon, you will notice that your blood sugar levels have improved and are more stabilized. If you like the video, give it a thumbs up and share it with your friends! A hard workout/exercise can make you more insulin sensitive for up to 48 hours. 06:56 The average person with type 1 diabetes is on high dose insulin and eating as many carbs as they want. 07:16 Dr. Stanislaw uses Dexcom blood sugar monitor, which she feels is the most accurate sensor. 11:05 Rather than a subcutaneous insulin shot, Dr. Stanislaw injects intramuscularly. 13:09 Insulin is the pickup truck for glucose. 14:15 There are insulin receptors on muscle cells, liver cells and fat. The brain, like many other cells, does not need insulin in order to take on glucose. 14:42 Without insulin, blood glucose levels would become dangerously high. 15:31 Injected insulin is a slow response. 17:15 The more protein and fat you have with your meal, the slower your digestion. If your injected insulin hits and your food hasn't digested, you blood sugar tanks and you could pass out and die. 18:23 Dr. Stanislaw's general recommendation for her type 1 diabetes patients: Low carb and whole food. It takes you off the blood sugar rollercoaster. 18:36 No insulin means that blood sugar levels spike, causing massive damage throughout the body: 19:07 Diabetic ketoacidosis (not ketosis) can kill you. 20:59 You always need a certain level of insulin in your body. You can pass out and die if you have no insulin and you can pass out and die if you have too much insulin. 22:52 Exercise and insulin requirements: Exercise makes you more insulin sensitive. A fit person who exercises will need less insulin. 23:40 The glucose cell receptors are called GLUT4 (glucose transporter 4). Insulin carries glucose. It connects to a GLUT4 receptor on cell, which opens the cell and allows glucose in. When you exercise, the concentration of GLUT4 receptors is upregulated for 24 to 48 hours after, making you super insulin sensitive. During exercise, some of the GLUT4s don't need insulin and will take in glucose without insulin. 24:43 If you have more muscle mass in general, you have more GLUT4 all the time. Weight lifting increases insulin sensitivity. It is more effective at this than cardio. Muscles are glucose hungry. 25:45 Dr. Stanislaw makes sure that her insulin levels are low before she starts to exercise. You don't need to eat every time you exercise. Exercise makes the insulin more powerful and acts as though you just gave yourself a shot of insulin. 28:34 HIIT spikes adrenaline. Cortisol tells your liver, a major glycogen store, to break glycogen into glucose. Your bloodstream is then flooded with glucose. 33:01 To stay insulin sensitive, we should work out no less than every other day. 32:59 Fewer than 25 percent of America's 3 million type 1 diabetics have decent blood sugar levels. Seventy-five percent of Americans with type 1 diabetes is on high dose insulin and eating as many carbs as they want. 34:18 If you get sick, even before you start showing symptoms, your insulin sensitivity crashes. 36:27 Poor sleep causes inflammation and stress. 38:45 Yoga and meditation affects insulin. You must love yourself into healing. 40:12 The four pillars are the foundation for your wellbeing: mindset (emotional health, spirituality, connection, and love for yourself), sleep, exercise and food.

Eating White Rice Increases Risk of Diabetes

03:57
This is the VOA Special English Health Report, from http://voaspecialenglish.com | http://facebook.com/voalearningenglish Rice is an important part of many people's diets. Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health in Massachusetts have released a report about rice. It shows that eating white rice increases the risk of Type Two diabetes. However, eating brown rice reduces the risk of the disease. The World Health Organization says more than two hundred twenty million people worldwide have diabetes. Type Two diabetes results when the body cannot effectively use the sugar it produces. More than thirty-nine thousand men and one hundred fifty-seven thousand women took part in the study. They were asked about their diet and day-to-day activities, as well as any pre-existing diseases. The study found that the people who ate five or more servings of white rice per week had a seventeen percent increased risk of developing Type Two diabetes. But those who ate two or more servings of brown rice a week had an eleven percent reduced risk of getting the disease. Brown rice is the grain in its natural form. White rice results after it has been refined. This involves removing the outer cover, including the husk, bran and germ. Only the inner white kernel is left. White rice is often enriched to replace some nutrients lost during the refining process. Qi Sun is the lead writer of the report. He says the outer parts of brown rice slow down the work of the body's digestive enzymes on the starch in the rice. This means that the release of sugar into the bloodstream is slower after eating brown rice compared to white rice.A diet of foods that quickly release sugar into the bloodstream has been linked with a greater risk of Type Two diabetes. The exact reason for this is not known. Doctor Sun says less refined grains have more nutritional value than refined grains. He says replacing white rice with whole grains like whole wheat or barley could result in a thirty-six percent lower chance of developing Type Two diabetes. He says people should replace white rice and other refined carbohydrates with whole grains whenever possible. However, brown rice does not last as long as white rice because of the oil-rich layer of bran. This makes it less usable in poor communities. The International Rice Research Institute is working to develop kinds of white rice whose starch is released more slowly. And that's the VOA Special English Health Report. Fibre Helps Control Blood Sugar And Diabetes

11:32
http://benjaminschiltz.com benjamin.schiltz@gmail.com FIBRE Fibre is good for the control of blood sugar. This is just a short presentation to give some information about fibre and how it helps diabetics. There are two ways to spell the word; fibre and fiber and doesn't matter because they have the same meaning. Fibre is the part of plants that our bodies cannot digest. There are two types of fibre: soluble and insoluble. Foods such as vegetables, fruits, legumes and whole grains contain fibre. Animal foods such as meats and eggs have no fibre. What is the difference between soluble and insoluble fibre? Soluble fibre is the soft fibre that helps control blood glucose (sugar) and reduces cholesterol. It also helps in managing diarrhea. Soluble fibre is present in oat bran, oatmeal, legumes (dried beans and lentils) and fruits such as apples and strawberries. Insoluble fibre is the bulky fibre that helps to prevent constipation. It also helps to prevent some types of cancers. It is present in wheat bran, whole grain breads and cereals, fruits and vegetables. Many foods contain both soluble and insoluble fibre. Why is fibre good for me? Fibre is important for your overall health. Some of its benefits include: Controlling blood glucose (sugar) Managing blood pressure Reducing blood cholesterol Increasing the feeling of being full Controling weight Regulating bowel movement Benefit for those with diabetes Soluble fibre in oat bran, legumes (dried beans of all kinds, peas and lentils), and pectin (from fruit, such as apples) and forms in root vegetables (such as carrots) is considered especially helpful for people with either form of diabetes. Soluble fibre may help control blood sugar by delaying gastric (stomach) emptying, retarding the entry of glucose into the bloodstream and lessening the postprandial (post-meal) rise in blood sugar. It may lessen insulin requirements in those with type 1 diabetes. Because fibre slows the digestion of foods, it can help blunt the sudden spikes in blood glucose (sugar) that may occur after a low-fibre meal. Such blood sugar peaks stimulate the pancreas to pump out more insulin. Some researchers believe that a lifetime of blood glucose (sugar) spikes could contribute to type 2 diabetes, which typically strikes after the age of 40, and more than doubles the risk of stroke and heart disease. The cholesterol-lowering effect of soluble fibres may also help those with diabetes by reducing heart disease risks. How much fibre do I need? For adults the Canadian Diabetes Association recommends 25 to 50 grams of fibre every day. Children between the ages of three and 18 need a gradual increase of fibre in their diets, usually calculated by using the child’s age and adding five grams. People of all ages should eat a variety of foods to obtain a mixture of both soluble and insoluble fibre. How can I get enough? Good foods with at least two grams of fibre per serving can claim to be a “source” of fibre. Better foods with at least four grams of fibre per serving can claim to be a “good source” of fibre. Best foods with at least six grams of fibre per serving can claim to be a “very good” or “excellent” source of fibre. Here are some tips to increase your fibre intake: Eat the skins and seeds of vegetables and fruit Choose “whole grain” bread, pasta, cereal, crackers and rice Use whole grain flour in your homemade baked goods Add barley, beans and lentils to soups and salads Use canned beans, chickpeas in salads or in place of meat a few times every week Add ground flax seeds to yogurt, cereal or homemade baked goods Add a small handful of almonds or other nuts to a salad Note: Increase the amount of fibre slowly and drink plenty of fluids to avoid discomfort and gas. Natural Herbs For Diabetes - Top 5 Natural Herbs For Diabetes

04:19
These top 5 natural herbs for diabetes have shown some promise in lowering blood sugar, boosting insulin sensitivity, reducing high blood pressure and cholesterol, and more. 1. Gymnema Sylvestre This plant’s Hindi name translates as “sugar destroyer,” and the plant is said to reduce the ability to detect sweetness. It’s regarded as one of the most powerful herbs for blood-sugar control. It may work by boosting the activity of enzymes that help cells use glucose or by stimulating the production of insulin. Though it hasn’t been studied extensively, it’s not known to cause serious side effects. 2. Bitter Melon The aptly named bitter melon is thought to help cells use glucose more effectively and block sugar absorption in the intestine. When Philippine researchers had men and women take bitter melon in capsule form for three months, they had slight, but consistently, lower blood sugar than those taking a placebo. Gastrointestinal problems are possible side effects. 3. Prickly Pear Cactus The ripe fruit of this cactus has been shown in some small studies to lower blood sugarlevels. You may be able to find the fruit in your grocery store, but if not, look for it as a juice or powder at health food stores. Researchers speculate that the fruit may possibly lower blood sugar because it contains components that work similarly to insulin. The fruit is also high in fiber. 4. Bilberry This relative of the blueberry contains powerful antioxidants in its fruit and leaves. These antioxidants, called anthocyanidins, seem to help prevent damage to tiny blood vessels that can result in nerve pain and retinopathy (damage to the eye’s retina). Animal studies have also suggested that bilberry may lower blood sugar. 5. Ginseng Known for its immune-boosting and disease-fighting benefits, this Chinese herb has several positive diabetes studies behind it. Researchers have found that ginseng slows carbohydrate absorption; increases cells’ ability to use glucose; and increases insulin secretion from the pancreas. A team from the University of Toronto has repeatedly demonstrated that ginseng capsules lower blood glucose 15 to 20 percent compared to placebo pills.

→ 3 Things You Didn’t Know Can Cause Poor Blood Flow & Circulation

06:04
How I quickly improved my dad’s blood flow and circulation in only 30 days - NO drugs or diets! ►►http://drsam.co/yt/30DaysSolution ======================================= 3 Things You Didn’t Know Can Cause Poor Blood Flow & Circulation ======================================= So today I’m going to quickly discuss 3, little-known causes of poor blood flow and circulation. 1 -- Binge Drinking Studies have shown that drinking a glass of alcohol (distilled spirits, wine, or beer) a day can help the heart function better. It also helps maintain balance and the right proportions of fat in the blood and helps lower your chances of developing blood clots and blocked arteries. However, science also reveals that more than two drinks of alcohol a day can harm the heart. How?... Large amounts of alcohol can affect how the heart works. If the heart isn’t pumping blood throughout your body effectively, other organs may suffer from lack of oxygen or nutrients. If the person drinking has clogged blood vessels, the heart has to work even harder. Studies1 on middle-aged and older people resulted in linking binge drinking to a higher risk of cardiovascular diseases like stroke, sudden cardiac death, and heart attack. Binge drinking may also lead to hardening of your arteries, which further increases your risk of cardiovascular disease. Obviously, binge drinking should be avoided in order to have a healthy blood circulation. Typically, binge drinking happens in groups. So try to limit the time you spend with your friends who tend to be binge drinkers. 2 -- Sitting For Too Long, Especially With Bad Posture While a brief period of sitting here and there is natural, long periods of sitting day-in and day-out can seriously impact your health and shorten your life. Excessive sitting is bad for your back and is one of the causes of poor circulation. Unfortunately, most of us are sitting even more than ever because of computers. And with prolonged sitting, comes negative damages to your organs The Heart – In a sitting position, blood flow slows down and muscles don’t burn enough fat, which permits fatty acids to clog in the heart much faster. The Pancreas – The body’s ability to properly respond to insulin is badly affected by just one day of prolonged sitting. This leads the pancreas to produce more insulin, and this cause low energy, fat again and diabetes. Colon Cancer – Excessive sitting may increase your risk of colon, breast, and endometrial cancers. So, how can you avoid sitting for too long? Set an alarm on your computer, watch or phone and stand up every 30-60 minutes. Move around, stretch, grab a glass of water or do something physical. If possible, go outside for a quick 10 minute walk. Instead of sitting and talking on your cell phone, walk around. There are no cords, so you have no limits. 3 -- High Intake Of Salt A high intake of sodium is a more common cause of poor circulation. For clarity, I’m referring to regular table salt or salt found in most packaged foods. Not so much with more “natural” salts such as Himalayan or Celtic Sea Salt Sodium is a mineral and electrolyte that’s crucial for your body to function well. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention2, around 90% of sodium you get comes from salt. Sodium assists in controlling blood volume and blood pressure. However, your circulatory health may suffer if you get too much of it. A high sodium diet is linked to hypertension. According to the CDC, if sodium rises, blood pressure rises too. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2010 recommends you limit salt intake to less than 2,300 milligrams/day. You should not consume more than 1,500 milligrams daily if you’re over the age of 50, African-American, or have health conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, or chronic kidney disease. Processed foods and restaurant foods are full of salt. Don’t eat these foods and you’ll be able to avoid the majority of your salt intake. You can also add in potassium rich foods or supplements, to counteract and balance the sodium intake. Can Diabetic Retinopathy Be Reversed?

05:26
The reversal of blindness due to hypertension and diabetes with Dr. Kempner’s rice and fruit diet demonstrates the power of diet to exceed the benefits of the best modern medicine and surgery has to offer. Subscribe to Dr. Greger’s free nutrition newsletter at https://www.nutritionfacts.org/subscribe and get a free recipe from his new HOW NOT TO DIE COOKBOOK. (All proceeds Dr. Greger receives from the sales of his books, DVDs, and speaking engagements go to support the 501c3 nonprofit that runs NutritionFacts.org.) I documented the extraordinary Kempner story previously in Kempner Rice Diet: Whipping Us Into Shape (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/Kempner-Rice-Diet-Whipping-Us-Into-Shape) and Drugs and the Demise of the Rice Diet (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/drugs-and-the-demise-of-the-rice-diet/). The reason I keep coming back to this is not to suggest people should go on such a diet (it is too extreme and potentially dangerous to do without strict medical supervision), but to show the power of dietary change to yield tremendous healing effects. The best way to prevent diabetic blindness is to prevent or reverse the diabetes in the first place. Diabetes and Okra - a case study by Jogindra Kohli 8 14 2015

05:20
I was discouraged by everyone including my wife who is a physician regarding this recipe. The reason was the argument that it is so simple then why it is not used by anyone and how come the Diabetes drug industry is flourishing world wide. Even on internet at one place it showed it is not proven as there is no control study. I think we have become so used to the system that we are afraid to try even simple things unless someone advises us and charges us a lot of money for the advice. So I decided to take matter in my own hand and started to try it. It worked so well for me that I feel others should try it and spread the word so it can help everyone. I have been using it for two weeks and are already seeing the effect as I measure my blood sugar many times a day. I stopped my insulin but I am taking other medicines prescribed by the doctor but will gradually wean them out or reduce them as it is warranted. I did find a writeup supporting Okra with details, but it is so easy to try with no side effect that one should try oneself. here is the write up I found that goes in details of how it works. Okra is fast gaining a reputation as a so-called 'superfood' for people with or at risk of diabetes or cancer. Commonly referred to as ladyfingers, or by its biological names Abelmoschus esculentus and Hibiscus esculentus, okra is known to have a positive effect on blood sugar control, among many other health benefits. What is okra? Okra is a tall-growing vegetable that traces its origin from ancient Ethiopia (Abyssinia) through to Eastern Mediterranean, India, the Americas and the Caribbean. Parts of the plant (immature okra pods) are widely used vegetables in tropical countries and are typically used for making soups, stews or as a fried/boiled vegetable. These tender pods are very low in calories, providing just 30 calories per 100 g, and contain no saturated fats or cholesterol. They are also rich in nutrients, completely non-toxic, and have no adverse side effects. How can it help treat diabetes? Evidence of okra having anti-diabetic properties has increased in recent years, with multiple Vitro (laboratory) and Vivo (animal) studies confirming okra as a potent blood glucose-lowering (or anti-diabetic) food. In one study, published 2011 in the Journal of Pharmacy & BioAllied Sciences, researchers in India found that diabetic mice fed dried and ground okra peels and seeds experienced a reduction in their blood glucose levels, while others showed a gradual decrease in blood glucose following regular feeding of okra extract for about ten days. Outside of scientific research, many people with diabetes have reported decreasing blood sugar levels after soaking cut-up okra pieces in water overnight and then drinking the juice in the morning, while in Turkey roasted okra seeds have been used as a traditional diabetes medicine for generations. What's behind this effect? The superior insoluble fibre contained in okra is believed to help stabilise blood glucose by slowing the rate at which sugar is absorbed from the intestinal tract. Other health benefits Because okra is a rich source of dietary fibre, important vitamins and minerals, and powerful antioxidants, the vegetable is known to be beneficial for health in a number of ways. These include: • Preventing and improving constipation • Lowering cholesterol • Reducing the risk of some forms of cancer, especially colorectal cancer • Improving energy levels and improving symptoms of depression • Helping to treat sore throat, irritable bowel, ulcers and lung inflammation

When ever I feed him fruits specially berries he gets a really bad diaper rash. Now, I'm wondering, is the rash from the berries or are the fruits pulling the acids from his body?” 1:43:57 – Virginie - I just found you and actually agree with all your mind. I come to ask for help because I have a friend in a wheelchair (lower body) for 10 years. He had had serious motorcycle accident and his spinal cord is pinched from (what the doctors say). Therefore it can hardly have children. It is a lovely and considerate boy who does not deserve what happens to him. I come to you to see if you can help? Thank you.

Diabetes, often referred to by doctors as diabetes mellitus, describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. It can be controlled by eating some selected foods. In this video, we’ll share 10 best foods to eat that control diabetics, that are supported by science. But, before we begin, please consider taking a moment to subscribe us. You’ll get amazing healthy nutrition tips from us every day. 10 best foods for diabetics 1.Garlic Garlic is a delicious herb with impressive health benefits. Several studies have shown it can reduce inflammation, blood sugar and LDL cholesterol in people with type 2 diabetes. One clove of raw garlic contains only 4 calories and 1 gram of carbs. 2.broccoli It has more vitamin C per 100 grams than an orange, plus it is high in the antioxidant beta-carotene, which the body uses to make vitamin A. This dark green vegetable has vitamin A power promotes healthy vision, teeth, bones, and skin. It is also rich in folate and fiber, all with minimal calories and carbs. 3. Yogurt Yogurt might help prevent type 2 diabetes. In studying the diets of thousands of adults with and without diabetes, investigators found those who ate at least 55 grams (about 2 ounces) of yogurt a day were 12 percent less likely to develop type 2. The researchers theorized that probiotic bacteria in yogurt lowers cholesterol and produces certain vitamins that prevent diabetes. 4. Apples Apples appears to offer protection against diabetes. The Harvard School of Public Health examined the diets of 200,000 people and found that those who reported eating five or more apples a week had a 23 percent lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared with subjects who did not eat any apples. A medium-size apple contains 3 grams of fiber, which includes both soluble and insoluble fiber. 5. Oatmeal It is loaded with soluble fibre which, when mixed with water, forms a paste. Just as it sticks to your bowl, it also forms a gummy barrier between the digestive enzymes in your stomach and the starch molecules in your meal. So it takes longer for your body to convert the carbs you’ve eaten into blood sugar. 6.Nuts Nuts are one of the healthiest food choices you can make. Most nuts contain at least one or more of these heart-healthy substances: unsaturated fats, omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, vitamin E, plant sterols, and L-arginine, which makes artery walls more flexible and less prone to blood clots. 7. Beans Beans are high in fiber and a good source of protein, but now there are even more reasons to include them in a diabetic diet. Researchers found that eating about a cup of legumes daily resulted in better blood sugar control (for both blood glucose and A1C) and lower blood pressure. 8. Fatty Fish Fatty fish is one of the healthiest foods on the planet. Salmon, sardines, herring, anchovies and mackerel are great sources of the omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA, which have major benefits for heart health. Getting enough of these fats on a regular basis is especially important for diabetics, who have an increased risk of heart disease and stroke 9. Avocados Avocados are known for their heart-healthy monounsaturated fat content. When substituting these fats for saturated fat, they can improve cholesterol levels, decreasing your risk of heart disease, according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. 10. Chia Seeds Chia seeds are a wonderful food for people with diabetes. They're extremely high in fiber, yet low in digestible carbs. In fact, 11 of the 12 grams of carbs in a 28-gram (1-oz) serving of chia seeds are fiber, which doesn't raise blood sugar. The viscous fiber in chia seeds can actually lower your blood sugar levels by slowing down the rate at which food moves through your gut and is absorbed. 5 Best Foods to Control Diabetes

5 Best Foods to Control Diabetes. When you have diabetes it becomes very difficult to figure out what to eat. The main goal is to keep blood sugar levels well-controlled. However, it's also important to eat foods that help prevent diabetes complications like heart disease. The 5 best foods for diabetics, both type 1 and type 2 are: 1. Leafy Greens Leafy green vegetables are extremely nutritious and low in calories. They're also very low in digestible carbs, which raise your blood sugar levels. Spinach, kale and other leafy greens are good sources of several vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C. In one study, increasing vitamin C intake reduced inflammatory markers and fasting blood sugar levels for people with type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure. In addition, leafy greens are good sources of the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin. These antioxidants protect your eyes from macular degeneration and cataracts, which are common diabetes complications. 2. Broccoli Broccoli is one of the most nutritious vegetables around. A half cup of cooked broccoli contains only 27 calories and 3 grams of digestible carbs, along with important nutrients like vitamin C and magnesium. Studies in diabetics have found that broccoli may help lower insulin levels and protect cells from harmful free radicals produced during metabolism. What's more, broccoli is another good source of lutein and zeaxanthin. These important antioxidants help prevent eye diseases. 3. Fatty Fish Fatty fish is one of the healthiest foods on the planet. Salmon, sardines, herring, anchovies and mackerel are great sources of the omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA, which have major benefits for heart health. Getting enough of these fats on a regular basis is especially important for diabetics, who have an increased risk of heart disease and stroke. DHA and EPA protect the cells that line your blood vessels, reduce markers of inflammation and improve the way your arteries function after eating. A number of observational studies suggest that people who eat fatty fish regularly have a lower risk of heart failure and are less likely to die from heart disease. In studies, older men and women who consumed fatty fish 5 - 7 days per week for 8 weeks had significant reductions in triglycerides and inflammatory markers. Fish is also a great source of high-quality protein, which helps you feel full and increases your metabolic rate. 4. Chia seeds may help you achieve a healthy weight because fiber reduces hunger and makes you feel full. In addition, fiber can decrease the amount of calories you absorb from other foods eaten at the same meal. Additionally, chia seeds have been shown to reduce blood pressure and inflammatory markers. 5. Flaxseeds Flaxseeds are an incredibly healthy food. A portion of their insoluble fiber is made up of lignans, which can decrease heart disease risk and improve blood sugar control. In one study, people with type 2 diabetes who took flaxseed lignans for 12 weeks had a significant improvement in haemoglobin. Another study suggested that flaxseeds may lower the risk of strokes and potentially reduce the dosage of medication needed to prevent blood clots. Flaxseeds are very high in viscous fiber, which improves gut health, insulin sensitivity and feelings of fullness. Your body can't absorb whole flaxseeds, so purchase ground seeds or grind them yourself. It's also important to keep flaxseeds tightly covered in the refrigerator to prevent them from going rancid. Eat 2 Tablespoons of Coconut Oil Daily for These Amazing Health Benefits!

04:29
Eat 2 Tablespoons of Coconut Oil Daily for These Amazing Health Benefits! The health benefits of coconut oil keep coming to light. From using it to prevent balding hair to using it as toothpaste and a facial scrub, the applications for coconut oil are never-ending. While it can work wonders as a beauty product, the benefits to eating just two tablespoons a day will have you running to the store to stock your cabinets with it, if you haven’t already! Here are five great reasons why coconut oil should be your new best friend: 1. Coconut Oil Can Help You Lose Weight While most people are in a caloric deficit state when trying to lose weight, the foods that they’re eating still matter, even if they stay within their calorie limit. Coconut oil is a great healthy fat option to aid in weight loss. Yes, coconut oil is a fat. But it’s a good fat. It consists almost entirely of medium-chain fatty acids that give your metabolism a boost. Coconut oil is also more thermogenic than many other foods, so eating it can increase energy expenditure and help you burn more calories. Maintaining healthy organs is key to losing weight right. Coconut oil helps to protect your liver, allowing your thyroid to function at a higher level. Whether you’re just kicking off you’re weight loss journey or you’re mid-way through it, you’ll want to incorporate coconut oil into your daily routine. 2. Coconut Oil is Pro-Health and Anti-Everything Bad! Coconut oil not only tops the list of anti-inflammatory foods. Its health benefits go much further: Anti-bacterial – stops harmful bacteria and infections dead in their tracks Anti-carcinogenic – boosts immunity and keeps cancer cells from spreading Anti-fungal – destroys fungus and yeast that lead to infections Anti-inflammatory – repairs tissue while suppressing inflammation Anti-microbial – fights infection and inactivates harmful microbes Anti-oxidant – protects against damage from free radicals Anti-retroviral/parasitic/protozoa/viral – rids the body of lice, and parasites such as tapeworms; kills infection in the gut, destroys viruses that cause influenza, herpes, measles, hepatitis and more Just two tablespoons a day of this superfood can help protect you from disease and infection, and keep your body healthy and happy! 3. Coconut Oil Stabilizes Blood Sugar and Insulin Levels Although it is a fat, coconut oil can indirectly help control blood sugar and insulin levels. It helps glucose enter your cells, slowing and reducing insulin levels in the blood. The healthy fat in coconut oil slows the digestive process to allow for a steady stream of energy from your food. Other vegetable oils such as soybean, corn and canola oils are made up of long-chain fatty acids which can actually decrease the cells’ ability to absorb blood sugar, and aggravate diabetes or insulin resistance. This is why doctors typically recommend a low-fat diet for diabetics. Coconut oil, consisting of medium-chain fatty acids, is the exception. 4. Coconut Oil Lowers Your Risk of Heart Disease Populations that consume coconut oil have been found to be some of the most heart-healthy. A study done on people in Papua New Guinea (who thrive on coconut oil and other coconut foods) found no signs of stroke or heart attack in the study’s participants, while a study done on Polynesians, who consume over 60% of their total calories from coconut, also showed participants to be in great health, with no evidence of heart disease. Unlike polyunsaturated fatty acid oils, coconut oil does not cause arterial damage. Instead, it helps to lower risk of heart disease and other heart problems. 5. Coconut Oil Kills Candida Fungus If you haven’t heard of Candida, you can read about it here. It’s a fungus that spreads throughout the blood stream and shows itself in many different forms, and it is estimated that one out of three Americans is affected by it. There are a variety of causes, from birth control or stress to a diet high in sugar. Candida can be the reason a person is unable to sleep, unable to lose weight or unable to reduce their stress level. Coconut oil helps to fight the rampid fungus and stop it before it spreads! https://youtu.be/bvDy9vU6SWQ

Hi Friends, Watch►Diabetes Drinks | Natural Homemade Drinks For Kill Diabetes Permanently: https://goo.gl/UnZvu8 Diabetes is a very common disease or disorder of metabolism. It is a complex group of diseases triggered by various causes. People with diabetes have high blood glucose, also known as high blood sugar or hyperglycemia. The digestive tract breaks down carbohydrates or sugar and starches found in many foods into glucose, a form of sugar that enters the bloodstream. With the help of the hormone insulin the bodies absorbs glucose and utilizes it for producing energy. Diabetes develops when the body is unable to produce enough insulin or use insulin effectively. Insulin is made in the pancreas, an organ located behind the stomach. The Pancreas contains clusters of cells called islets; the beta cells within the islets make insulin and release it to the blood. Green tea has been used as a medicine for thousands of years, originating in China but widely used throughout Asia this beverage has a multitude of uses from lowering blood pressure to preventing cancer. The reason that green tea has more health benefits attached to it than black tea is (apparently) due to the processing. Black tea is processed in a way that allows for fermentation whereas green tea’s processing avoids the fermentation process. Here’s a list of some of its amazing benefits — benefits that you may not have been aware of. Some of these benefits are still being debated, so please do your own research if you want to use green tea for medicinal purposes. 1. Weight Loss. Green tea increases the metabolism. Green tea apparently helps regulate glucose levels slowing the rise of blood sugar after eating. This can prevent high insulin spikes and resulting fat storage. 3. Heart Disease. Scientists think, green tea works on the lining of blood vessels, helping keep them stay relaxed and better able to withstand changes in blood pressure. It may also protect against the formation of clots, which are the primary cause of heart attacks. 4. Esophageal Cancer. It can reduce the risk of esophageal cancer, but it is also widely thought to kill cancer cells in general without damaging the healthy tissue around them. 5. Cholesterol. Green tea reduces bad cholesterol in the blood and improves the ratio of good cholesterol to bad cholesterol. 6. Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. It is said to delay the deterioration caused by Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Studies carried out on mice showed that green tea protected brain cells from dying and restored damaged brain cells. 7. Tooth Decay. Studies suggests that the chemical antioxidant “catechin” in tea can destroy bacteria and viruses that cause throat infections, dental caries and other dental conditions 8. Blood Pressure. Regular consumption of green tea is thought to reduce the risk of high blood pressure. 9. Depression. Theanine is an amino acid naturally found in tea leaves. In some studies green tea has been shown to inhibit the spread of many diseases. 11. Skincare. What Are Slow Calories? | The New Discovery!? for Weight Loss from Japan

02:33
What Are Slow Calories? | The New Discovery for Weight Loss from Japan As you may know, Japan has the lowest obesity rate among developed countries. How do we consistently rank so well while the rest of the developed world struggles with obesity? Well, part of the reason why we have a low obesity rate is because we eat foods with slow calories. So, what are slow calories? Recently, the newly established Association of Slow Calorie Research for Health has promoted the importance of “slow calories.” Slow calories refer to food that slows the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates in your intestines. In fact, quick digestion of food increases your risk for diabetes and weight gain. In the past, people believed that the faster you digested your food, the better. Yet, recent studies show that quick digestion and absorption of carbohydrates causes your insulin to spike, which can lead to weight gain. So, what foods have slow calories and what are some other tricks that we make foods slow calories? 1. Foods with Slow Calories Colored carbs, such as brown rice or brown bread, contain fiber which slows down digestion. When you have a choice, always opt for colored carbs. 2. 1) Vegetables 2) Protein 3) Carbs Eating order matters. When you eat carbs at the beginning of a meal, you cause your insulin to spike. Always eat your vegetables first, protein second, and carbs last. By doing so, your carbs are covered by vegetable fibers. Since they are coated in vegetable fibers, your body digests and absorbs your carbs slower. Now, I’m not saying you should finish all your vegetables before moving onto protein and carbs. You can just repeat this cycle as you eat. The most important thing is to eat some vegetables before eating other food. If there is soup, you should enjoy it a little bit before you eat your vegetables. 3. Chew More When you eat too fast, you tend to eat more because it takes time for your brain to recognize that you’re full. By chewing more, you can prevent overeating. In Japan, we are taught to chew 30 times per bite at school. It’s very hard to chew that many times (and I’ve never been able to do so), but at least try to chew more.

Religions prescribe periods of fasting. Ancient Greeks did it for mental clarity. In the last 50 years there has been a strong move against fasting. 03:06 Nothing Wrong with Fasting: Dr. Fung investigated fasting and found that fasting had a great many benefits. Periodic fasting allows your body to burn off fat. Dr. Fung uses it with all of his overweight patients. Blood sugar medications need to be monitored closely once implementing fasting, or blood sugar could go too low.05:25 Hypoglycemia: If you are taking blood sugar meds, you may become hypoglycemic. 09:42 Muscle Loss and Fasting: Starvation mode and muscle loss are two of the many myths. Hypoglycemia is not a big concern unless you are taking blood sugar meds. As you fast, you will consume glycogen. 16:53 Hormones of Fasting: Fasting increases growth hormone. It increases noradrenaline. These are counter regulatory hormones, which counter the effect of insulin. Insulin lowers blood glucose. 22:04 Three Day a Week Fast: Dr. Fung does 24 hour fasts. 26:32 Anti-Aging Benefits: Skin is protein, so skin may alter with intermittent fasting. During the process of fasting, you get rid of old cells as part of renovation. 28:44 Autophagy: mTOR is a major regulator of autophagy. Protein turns off autophagy. mTOR is a nutrient sensor, sensing protein. 33:37 Salt and Fasting: One reason why Dr. Fung’s patients use bone broth during a fast is for salt intake. 35:49 Kidney Function: 37:07 Hormone Impacts: The main hormone affected by fasting is insulin. 42:17 Cortisol and Fasting: Cortisol does rise with fasting. It is part of the counter regulatory hormones. 43:14 Noradrenaline & Fasting 48:09 Calories: Calories have nothing to do with weight loss. Fasting is about changing your hormones. 49:50 Nutrient Changes in the 1950s: There was little obesity. People ate cookies, white bread and ice cream. You ate within a 10 hour window. 54:51 Bullet Proof Coffee/Fat Fasting: Many of the benefits of fasting come from reducing insulin. Pure fat has almost no insulin effect. 56:26 Ketogenic Diet: Intermittent fasting and ketogenic diet are along the same spectrum, close cousins. The ultra-low carb ketogenic diet lowers insulin. Low carb diet delivers 71% of the insulin lowering of fasting. 01:00:39 Dr. Fung’s Morning Routine: 01:03:45 Dr. Fung’s Favorite Nutrient: 01:07:54 Dr. Fung’s Elevator Pitch: We need to teach people about the therapeutic value of fasting. It has the potential to change the entire health system of the world. Most of what we do is treat diabetes, high blood pressure and all of the downstream issues. All of this can be taken care of for free. We need to spread the knowledge of how to do it.

The Healthiest Fruit in The World, “Kills” Cancer Cells, Viruses and Slows Aging Please SUBSCRIBE : http://bit.ly/2e9Su11 Multiple studies have confirmed that Aronia is an incredibly healthy fruit, which cleanses the body from heavy metals and harmful substances, and thus prevents cancer. It has strong anticancer activity since a large percentage “kills” malignant tumor cells of the breast, liver, brain, lung, and colon. This excellent antioxidant prevents free radicals and their damage to healthy body cells and blood plasma. Therefore, it decelerates aging and prevents various chronic diseases. Aronia originates from North America, and it was brought to Europe. In North America, it has been used as medicine and food. After the Chernobyl explosion, its berries have been used to relieve radiation effects, and they have provided amazing results. Since it effectively eliminates heavy metals from the body, aronia may prevent their entrance through vaccines, as well as the popular “chemtrails”. The ORAC and TEAC standards indicate that it has the highest antioxidant activity of all the berry fruits and nuts. Aronia is abundant in flavonoids, antioxidants, folic acid, trace minerals, and vitamins B, C and E. It is rich in anthocyanin antioxidants, which boost the immune system, slow down aging, and lower the cancer risk. Due to its high levels of vitamins C and E, and antioxidants, it has potent antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. Furthermore, it prevents heart diseases, reduces high blood pressure and cholesterol, and supports the production of good cholesterol. Additionally, aronia beneficially affects the stomach, and stimulates the thyroid, and is especially useful in the case of hypothyroidism. Also, this fruit helps digestion, soothes pain in the gut and spasms, treats diarrhea, and alleviates the inflammation of the intestinal lining. It helps in the case of gallstones, treats gallbladder inflammation, and supports the function of the liver. It is often included in many weight loss products, as it helps to maintain healthy body weight. But is all fiber created equal? There is soluble fiber, like oatmeal, and insoluble fiber, like the cellulose in veggies. In classic western form, we are told that if you want to lose weight, lower cholesterol, or reduce the risk of diabetes, eat more soluble fiber, such as "heart-healthy" Cheerios. On the other hand, if you are constipated, feeling toxic, overeating, or at risk of colon cancer, we are told to eat more insoluble fiber in the form of vegetable roughage to boost intestinal bulk. While everyone agrees that both are necessary, and that each plays a unique role in maintaining optimal health, we are being told to emphasize one fiber over another based on symptoms, rather than the indisputable logic of nature. Join me as I help you simplify and clarify your fiber needs, and set a nutritional course based on nature's intelligence. ________________________________________________________________________ Let's Review There are two types of fiber: soluble and insoluble. Neither of them is digestible by humans and, thus, they offer no real nutritional value. However, both kinds of fiber perform certain functions in the intestinal tract that makes them absolutely necessary for optimal health. Soluble Fiber Soluble fiber is soluble in water. It becomes slimy and lubricating in the gut when it mixes with water in the digestive system. Think of psyllium or Metamucil. Food Sources Soluble fiber is found in oat bran, barley, nuts, seeds, beans, lentils, peas and some fruits and veggies. Function • Binds with fatty acids and bile in the gut, which are generally attached to bad cholesterol and toxins earmarked for the toilet. • Becomes gel-like in the gut and slows the absorptions of fats and sugars into the blood stream. Benefits • Lowers total cholesterol and LDL or bad cholesterol, thereby reducing the risk of heart disease. • Regulates or slows the blood sugar release from the gut for people with diabetes. Risks • Too much soluble fiber can dehydrate the gut. Have you ever added water to psyllium in a glass? Being a soluble fiber, it will attract water and expand quickly in the glass. If too much soluble fiber is taken, it may pull water away from the gut wall, drying it out. • The expansive effect of soluble fiber can also overly distend the gut. This could cause chronic constipation, a distended bowel, and sluggish absorption of certain nutrients such as sugars and fats into the blood stream. Insoluble Fiber Insoluble fiber does not mix with water and generally moves through the gut intact, acting as bulk and scrubbing the intestinal wall. Think of vegetable roughage. Food Sources Insoluble fiber is found in wheat bran, fruits, veggies, and whole grains. Function • Insoluble fiber tends to speed up the passage of food through the stomach and intestines, adding needed bulk to the stool. • It is also in charge of maintaining the proper pH of the gut, which regulates the balance of good bacteria in the gut. Benefits • Promotes regular bowel movement and prevents constipation • Removes toxic waste through the colon in less time. • Scrubs the villi of the intestines. • Helps prevent colon cancer by keeping an optimal pH in the intestines to prevent microbes from producing cancerous and toxic substances. Risks • Too much insoluble fiber can irritate the gut as excess roughage can inflame a sensitive digestive system. A Symbiotic Relationship While most nutritionists give soluble fibers most of the credit for cardiovascular support, blood sugar regulation and lowering cholesterol, much of these benefits would not exist without the aid of insoluble fibers. Insoluble fibers in the form of cellulose escort the toxins into the toilet. If only soluble fibers existed, toxins might be bound to soluble fibers in the gut with no way out, lingering in the gut and eventually being re-absorbed back into the bloodstream and liver. Experts at the National Academy of Sciences are recommending that these two terms, "soluble" and "insoluble," be phased out with regard to fiber, as their benefits are so intertwined that their exact roles in the gut are still unclear.
