The main reason that people tend to have fat arms is loss of collagen, which happens over a period of time as a person grows older. Out of all the hormones, the growth hormone tends to be the single most critical factor that is responsible for lose arm fat. In adults, the growth hormone controls factors such as fat burning, tightening muscles, protein synthesis, energy. The major causes for flabby arms is lower levels of growth hormone and high cortisol levels. In the second part of this video, Dr. Berg talks about how to get rid of flabby arms. To lose arm fat and avoid loose skin one must lower cortisol levels and raise the growth hormone. Lower cortisol levels can be achieved by low intensity exercises (walking), sleeping, avoid stress, potassium foods, avoid sugar. Higher growth hormone can be achieved by high intensity exercises, sleeping, proteins, avoid sugar. Loose skin normally stems from a loss of collagen, which occurs when the adrenal glands become stress. This is common during and after menopause, primarily because the adrenal glands act as a back up gland for the ovaries. The buffer for cortisol is GH (Growth Hormone) and as GH drops, there is nothing left to counter the bad effects of cortisol. LOWER CORTISOL 1. Low intensity exercise 2. Increase sleep 3. Support adrenal gland 4. Avoid stress 5. Increase potassium 6. Increase B vitamins 7. Avoid sugar RAISE GROWTH HORMONE 1. High intensity exercise 2. Increase sleep 3. Increase some protein (not more than 6 ounces per meal) 4. Intermittent fasting - only 3 meals per day - no snacks 5. Decrease Cortisol and insulin 6. At one point, John Allaire was so morbidly obese he wore 8XL shirts and had to be weighed on a commercial scale at a fish market, as standard scales would not hold his weight. But after joining a fitness programme and dropping from 540 pounds to a lean 230 lbs, the 27-year-old was left with severe excess skin. John underwent skin removal surgery in March which saw the bulk of the loose skin on his torso and arms removed – but will require further surgery in the future to remove the skin on his lower body. Start by scrubbing the lemons with a pinch of baking soda and rinse them off to remove any bacteria or pesticides. Add some baking soda to the 8 cups of warm water and put your now clean shiny lemons in it. Let them sit there for about an hour so that they can soak in the baking soda. Once that’s done, wash the parsley, cut it and the lemons up, and throw the two in the water. Don't remove the peel from the lemons, it has its own important nutrients too! Let the water come to a boil, and then leave it on low heat for about 3 hours. After that, turn off the heat and let it cool. If you've done everything right, half of the water should evaporate. Strain your soupy concoction, put it in a glass bottle or jar, and keep it in the fridge overnight. Drink 2 ounces of it first thing in the morning, wait for about 30 minutes, and then enjoy some breakfast! Let’s get into it: Reason #1. You May Be Losing Inches and Not Pounds Right Now We expect scale weight loss to be perfectly linear and a steady progression all the way to our goals. Like we are happily skiing down a mountain all the way down to our perfect weight. Weight loss is not like that… Scale weight loss often looks more like Driving an ATV through Jurassic park. Lots of peaks, valleys, and a little bit of craziness around every turn… This is exactly why you need to weight AND measure yourself. Gaining muscle can also throw off the scale as it’s heavier than fat mass, but steady inches lost, especially in the abdominal area, is one the most reliable indicators of weight loss progress. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10951540 The most important measurement you can track is your stomach, but also tracking progress on the arms, thighs, hips and butt is a great idea. Reason #2. You’re Eating Too Much 90% of the time the main culprit to a weight loss plateau is simply an overconsumption of calories https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18583464 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18025815 It doesn’t matter if your gluten free, dairy free, or clothes free, if you’re eating too many calories you’re going to gain weight… The solution is to diligently track your calories for a week, remain in a calorie deficit, and see if the scale or your inches move. It’s important to remember that big reason for why an overconsumption of calories happens is because Reason #3. Reason #5 Stress High cortisol levels has been linked to stubborn belly fat and if you’re dealing with a lot of stress right now, this can definitely slow down progress. The best proven ways to minimize cortisol levels is sleep more, meditate, and go on a daily 30-minute walks. Reason #6. Your Hormones Need a Break Have you been dieting for what seems like, forever?? Being in a calorie deficit technically means that you’re starving yourself. This process of losing weight can cause hormones like leptin and testosterone to drop. The prolonged drop on these hormones can make weight loss more difficult. The solution is to go on a diet break. Eat a little more food (yes even some bad things), get some more sleep, and take a break from the dieting obsessively for 3-7 days. Throw away the scale and just focus on how you feel. This will help these hormones normalize and should help things get back on track when you start dieting again. Reason #7. Deficiencies and System Malfunctions If you feel like you’ve truly done everything we just talked about and you’re still not losing any weight, it’s time to go get some blood work done. Think about getting blood work as taking a look under your cars hood. Things like micronutrient deficiencies, thyroid issues, and other system issues are really only revealed by blood work and can cause weight loss problems. Sooooo take a peak and still feel stuck! When the body enters the advanced stages of adrenal fatigue it enters what we call a catabolic state. The body is trying to conserve energy, and what better way than to break down the current muscles in order to generate energy for the brain and the rest of the body. At this time, usually, the body is trying to slow down the G.I. tract as well. So the assimilation of food tends to be problematic, and food sensitivity can become quite prominent. Over time what people realize and experience is this is a gradual loss of weight; the muscles under the arms can become flabby, the weight in addition to loss or slow losing weight can also experience flaciddity, that means it's losing the collagen integrity of the muscles, so you will find that doing push ups will be a little bit more and more difficult, and sometimes even taking a breath, a deep breath will be problematic; because without the proper muscle mass the expansion of the chest cage can be compromised.
