02:12
Vitamin D3 From Sunlight Will Prevent You From Cardiovascular Diseases Hello friends, As we know that Vitamin D is an important prohormone for optimal intestinal calcium absorption for mineralization of bone. Because the vitamin D receptor is present in multiple tissues, there has been interest in evaluating other potential functions of vitamin D, particularly, in cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Cross-sectional studies have reported that vitamin D deficiency is associated with increased risk of CVD, including hypertension, heart failure, and ischemic heart disease. Initial prospective studies have also demonstrated that vitamin D deficiency increases the risk of developing incident hypertension or sudden cardiac death in individuals with preexisting CVD. Very few prospective clinical studies have been conducted to examine the effect of vitamin D supplementation on cardiovascular outcomes. So watch this video to know more details.

7 Warning Signs Of Vitamin D Deficiency You Should Know!

03:15
7 Warning Signs Of Vitamin D Deficiency You Should Know! Vitamin D deficiency is incredibly common in the US, but many Americans mistakenly believe they aren't at risk because they consume vitamin-D-fortified foods (such as milk). There are very few foods that actually have therapeutic levels of vitamin D naturally and even fortified foods do not contain enough vitamin D to support your health needs. Despite its name, vitamin D is not a regular vitamin. It's actually a steroid hormone that you are designed to obtain primarily through sun exposure, not via your diet. What it is, how it's absorbed and metabolized, it's health benefits, and some recommendations about supplementation. Because of the importance of calcium, especially in growing children and older adults at risk of osteoporosis, many professional organizations recommend supplementing vitamin D intake. It's worth noting that the darker your skin, the more sun exposure you need to generate adequate levels of vitamin D. For example, a caucasian individual of northern European descent generates more vitamin D than an african american individual in the same amount of time. Below are the recommended daily allowances. Please consult your primary care physician to make sure you have appropriate levels of vitamin D. In the US, vitamin D levels can safely be consumed up to 2000 IU/day. Vitamin D, also known as Vitamin D2 D3 D4 or D5, cholecalciferol and is an important, essential nutrient. Sources of vitamin D include sunlight and light exposure as well as supplements. Myth of Vitamin D Deficiency AND Sodium, Potassium & Cardiovascular Disease

09:54
Wondering why so many people are being diagnosed with vitamin D deficiency? One reason is that the threshold for deficiency has been lowered – a lot. While many people continue to blame our epidemic of hypertension on salt, studies continue to show that while salt restriction can be beneficial for a few, it is not a good idea for most.

Vitamin D not flu shots

07:41
Another influenza season is beginning, and the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will strongly urge Americans to get a flu shot. In fact, the CDC mounts a well-orchestrated campaign each season to generate interest and demand for flu shots. But a recent study published in the October issue of the Archives of Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine found that vaccinating young children against the flu appeared to have no impact on flu-related hospitalizations or doctor visits during two recent flu seasons. At first glance, the data did suggest that children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years derived some protection from vaccination in these years. But after adjusting for potentially relevant variables, the researchers concluded that "significant influenza vaccine effectiveness could not be demonstrated for any season, age, or setting" examined. Additionally, a Group Health study found that flu shots do not protect elderly people against developing pneumonia -- the primary cause of death resulting as a complication of the flu. Others have questioned whether there is any mortality benefit with influenza vaccination. Vaccination coverage among the elderly increased from 15 percent in 1980 to 65 percent now, but there has been no decrease in deaths from influenza or pneumonia. There is some evidence that flu shots cause Alzheimers disease, most likely as a result of combining mercury with aluminum and formaldehyde. Mercury in vaccines has also been implicated as a cause of autism. Three other serious adverse reactions to the flu vaccine are joint inflammation and arthritis, anaphylactic shock (and other life-threatening allergic reactions), and Guillain-Barré syndrome, a paralytic autoimmune disease. One credible hypothesis that explains the seasonal nature of flu is that influenza is a vitamin D deficiency disease. Vitamin D levels in your blood fall to their lowest point during flu seasons. Unable to be protected by the bodys own antibiotics (antimicrobial peptides) that are released by vitamin D, a person with a low vitamin D blood level is more vulnerable to contracting colds, influenza, and other respiratory infections. Studies show that children with rickets, a vitamin D-deficient skeletal disorder, suffer from frequent respiratory infections, and children exposed to sunlight are less likely to get a cold. The increased number of deaths that occur in winter, largely from pneumonia and cardiovascular diseases, are most likely due to vitamin D deficiency. Unfortunately, now, for the first time, flu vaccination is also being pushed for virtually all children -- not just those under 5. This is a huge change. Previously, flu vaccine was recommended only for youngsters under 5, who can become dangerously ill from influenza. This year, the government is recommending that children from age 6 months to 18 years be vaccinated, expanding inoculations to 30 million more school-age children. The government argues that while older children seldom get as sick as the younger ones, it's a bigger population that catches flu at higher rates, so the change should cut missed school, and parents' missed work when they catch the illness from their children. Of course, this policy ignores the fact that a systematic review of 51 studies involving 260,000 children age 6 to 23 months found no evidence that the flu vaccine is any more effective than a placebo. Scottish researchers believe that one of the reasons sunlight feels so good is that it lowers your blood pressure. Scottish researchers believe that one of the reasons sunlight feels so good is that it lowers your blood pressure. With the help of 24 volunteers they were able to identify a compound that's released into blood vessels when UV A rays hit the skin. The substance is called nitric oxide and it helps get blood flowing. In the study, the participants were put into tanning beds twice -- once with the UVA rays at full force and once with them blocked, leaving only the heat generated by the bulbs. In each case they were in them long enough to mimic having been in the afternoon sun for a half an hour. After both trials their blood pressure was checked, and following the UVA test the subjects experienced a 5-point drop. Heat alone produced no changes in the readings. Of course, exposure to UVA rays is also linked to skin cancer, premature aging, and surface growths, but the study's authors feel these potential problems are secondary to their blood pressure lowering abilities. Said one of them, "We suspect that the benefits to heart health of sunlight will outweigh the risk of skin cancer."

Vitamin D- The Most Important vitamin to be taking? part 1

05:56
BodyByPT.com A few years ago, I wrote a two part article called Essential Supplements. As it turns out, there should have been a third part to the article, as it appears I missed one supplement. And to be honest I may have missed the most important one- the sunshine vitamin, vitamin D. The first thing you need to understand with vitamin D is that it is less of a vitamin and more of a hormone, an EXTREMELY important hormone- even though most people just view it as a prevention of rickets. Dr. Michael Holick, one of the world’s leading researchers on the subject, says rickets is just the tip of the iceberg. Low vitamin D has been related to the following: · Osteomalacia – which is basically the adult form of Ricket’s · Osteoporosis – Women who took vitamin D lost less bone as they got older. Unfortunately, once you have osteoporosis vitamin D won’t build the bone back. · Osteoarthritis – Bone health goes hand-in-hand with vitamin D · Cystic Fibrosis · Multiple Sclerosis · High Blood Pressure · Systemic Sclerosis aka CREST syndrome · Type-1 & 2 Diabetes · Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome- The majority of women with PCOS are D deficient. · If you are vitamin D deficient you have an increased risk of heart disease. If you have heart disease and low D you have an almost 100% chance of having a heart attack. · Muscle weakness · Depression- this is personal to me. When I was younger, every winter around February I just wanted to kill myself- literally. I was smiling on the outside but felt horrible on the inside. Once I started supplementing with vitamin D, I was able to ‘tolerate’ the winter months. And now I rarely ever get sick- I don’t think I’ve been sick for the past 5 years, and I’ve had clients experience the same thing. When I see tragedies like Robin Williams, I always wonder if low vitamin D was a factor. Last month research out of Michigan State University found that low levels of vitamin D in the blood appear to be associated with suicide attempts. · Cancer – It’s an interesting observation is that people who live south of 32 degrees latitude (approximately Atlanta), have lower cancer rates than those who live north. Also the rate of survival is greater south of Atlanta than north of it. There are many more conditions I could add to that list but I think you get the idea. Our bodies don’t function properly without adequate Vitamin D. It is of prime importance, and yet according to Scientific America magazine nearly ¾ of people in North America are vitamin D deficient- it’s even scarier if you have dark skin like myself, just 3% of blacks sampled in 2004 had sufficient levels! 3%! So how much do you need, and how should you get it? Stay tuned Monday for the exciting conclusion, I’ll discuss strategies for getting optimum levels of vitamin D. Not to hype it up but it may just be the most important newsletter I’ll ever write and you’ll ever read! So tune in if you want to live!

Dr. Greger's nutrition work can be found at NutritionFacts.org, which is now a 501(c)3 nonprofit charity. His latest two books are Bird Flu: A Virus of Our Own Hatching and Carbophobia: The Scary Truth Behind America's Low Carb Craze. Dr. Greger is a graduate of the Cornell University School of Agriculture and the Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Michael Greger talks about why a 40-year vegan dies of a heart attack and all about omega 3's and B12 nutrition and why these two nutrients are so important to all vegans and everyone else. Can vegans die from a heart attack? Yes, it has happened to this 40-year-old vegan, vegetarian since birth. Can vegans die of the same diseases that plague people on the Western standard diet of meat, dairy, and eggs? Sure! Dr. Michael Greger tells us why and how to prevent this. We can prevent many illnesses and diseases as a vegan. As a vegan, we are not full proof. In today's society because of washing our produce, chlorinating our water supply and soil being deficient we may need to supplement certain nutrients. Some amazing facts, documentation, stats and a whole lot of scientific information presented in this lecture. Informative. I never knew this until I saw the video. Amazing video! A must see for everyone, including vegans and vegetarians. Another important video from Dr. Rick Dina on fats https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGxcs9xmKDI

A DISCUSSION ON VITAMIN B12 AND THE RAW VEGAN DIET

15:00
FREE EBOOKLET http://www.sweetnaturalliving.com What is B12? How much do we need? Should we supplement with b12? What are the natural sources of this B12? Let's talk about this interesting nutrient in depth! First of all let's mention that the science on B12 is not conclusive. There's a lot of speculation involved. Even though I think we can use the scientific literature to our advantage, we must not forget the fact that all animals in nature know nothing about nutrition and seem to be doing fine. Trusting our instincts and following our senses must be first priority. We are frugivores as animals and our natural environment is the tropics. As soon as we move away from natural living, things tend to get complicated. B12 is produced by bacteria. These bacteria live everywhere! In the soil as well as in our bodies. If we were not so meticulous about washing our hands and produce, we might be more likely to ingest an adequate amount of B12. If our food was produced in rich, nutritious soil with plenty of microbial activity, instead of dead soils sprayed with pesticides and herbicides, there would probably be more B12 ON our food as well. We do have b12 producing bacteria in our intestinal tract, and if it was not for our general lack of health and/or constant eating of antibacterial foods like onion and garlic, it's possible that we would be able to uptake enough b12 from our own system. Yes, there is b12 in meat products, but that does not mean we should eat meat. Just like there's vitamin D in fish, but our natural source of that vitamin is sunlight. It's a myth that only vegans have B12 deficiencies. There's plenty of meat eating people with issues as well. How do we even know what the ideal b12 levels are like? Most people are eating too much meat and lots of fortified foods. Chances are that their b12 levels might be artificially high. We don't have any sound physiological norms to follow. Even though most vegans have "low" levels of b12, there are plenty of people living long lives with NO symptoms of deficiency whatsoever at very low levels of b12 in the blood. If you are experiencing symptoms of b12 deficiency or you think you might be deficient, it's possible to try out supplementation for a while to see what happens. This is very subjective at best, but chances are you're not going to experience any problems like toxicity since all B vitamins are water soluble and the body will flush out any excess. Personally I have experimented both with and without supplementation, and I still have not reached a definite conclusion. Health is nevertheless the key focus here, like always. By eating a diet of fresh, raw fruits and vegetables, grown in a healthy, organic soil we are optimizing our chances of "b12 contamination". By cultivating health in general we optimize our ability to uptake and use b12. By avoiding foods that damage our intestinal flora like garlic, onion and chili, as well as medical drugs and antibiotics, we might be able to uptake the b12 produced in our small intestine. By being in contact with our natural environment, the soil and plants, we increase our exposure to B12 producing bacteria. By avoiding stress we minimize the loss of b12 through metabolic processes. Essentially - creating health, both within our bodies and in our immediate environment, is key in optimizing our b12 situation. What Is Vitamin D? Why Is Vitamin D Necessary? Vitamin D Supplements And Foods

05:22
What Is Vitamin D? Why Is Vitamin D Necessary? Vitamin D Supplements And Foods. What Is Vitamin D? Vitamin D, often referred to as the “sunshine vitamin,” is actually a fat-soluble hormone that the body can synthesize naturally. There are several forms, including two that are important to humans: D2 and D3. Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) is synthesized by plants, and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is synthesized by humans when skin is exposed to ultraviolet-B (UVB) rays from sunlight. The active form of the vitamin is calcitriol, synthesized from either D2 or D3 in the kidneys. Vitamin D helps to maintain normal blood levels of calcium and phosphorus. Why Is Vitamin D Necessary? Vitamin D assists in the absorption of calcium and promotes bone mineralization, which may prevent or slow the progression of osteoporosis. It also helps to strengthen the immune system and protect against a number of serious diseases, including rickets and osteomalacia. Research suggests vitamin D may also provide protection from hypertension, psoriasis, several autoimmune diseases (including multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis), and reduce the incidence of fractured bones. In addition, growing evidence has demonstrated its important role in defending against cancer (studies link a deficiency of vitamin D to as many as 18 different cancers). What Are The Signs Of A Deficiency? Deficiencies of vitamin D are common, especially in industrialized countries in northern latitudes, where sun exposure is typically infrequent. Low levels of vitamin D may be indicated by porous bones, weak muscles and easy fracturing. How Much Vitamin D Should Adults Take? According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the daily Adequate Intake (AI) for adults is 5 mcg (200 IU) daily for males, female, and pregnant/lactating women under the age of 50. People 50 to 70 years old should get 10 mcg daily (400 IU) daily, and those over 70 should get 15 mcg daily (600 IU). Based on recent research, Dr. Weil recommends 2,000 IU of vitamin D per day. Look for supplements that provide D3 (cholecalciferol) rather than D2 (ergocalciferol). Anyone with vitamin D deficiencies should discuss intake levels with his or her physician. How Much Vitamin D Should Children Take? According to the NIH, AI for children from birth until 5 years of age should take 5 mcg per day (200 IU). What Are Some Vitamin D Foods? It isn’t easy to get enough vitamin D from your diet. While fortified vitamin D foods such as milk and cereals are available, most provide vitamin D2, a form which is much less well utilized by the body than D3. Good dietary sources include fortified foods, eggs, salmon, tuna, mackerel and sardines. Since sunlight causes our bodies to make vitamin D, daily exposure is helpful. A helpful rule: estimate the amount of time it would take for your skin to turn pink – or slightly, but noticeably darker – in the sun. Then reduce that time by 50 percent if you have fair skin, 25 percent for darker skin, and get that amount of exposure between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. two to three times per week. Are There Any Risks Associated With Too Much Vitamin D? No adverse effects have been seen with supplemental vitamin D intakes up to 10,000 IU daily. Exposing the face and hands to roughly 10 minutes of direct sunlight daily is also quite safe and a good way to boost vitamin D.
