In todays episode I talk to one of the best experts within the field of Vitamin D. Michael F. Holick is an American endocrinologist, specializing in the field of vitamin D, such as the identification of both calcidiol, the major circulating form of vitamin D, and calcitriol, the active form of vitamin D. His work has been the basis for diagnostic tests and therapies for vitamin D-related diseases. He is a professor of medicine at the Boston University Medical Center and editor-in-chief of the journal Clinical Laboratory. Holick made discoveries in the field of vitamin D that have led to novel therapies for metabolic bone diseases, hypocalcemic disorders, and psoriasis. He is author of more than 400 publications about the biochemistry, physiology, metabolism and photobiology of vitamin D and the pathophysiology of vitamin D deficiency. He is also the author of the book The Vitamin D solution . He has also been involved with an incredible app about how much you need to be in the sun. 7 Warning Signs Of Vitamin D Deficiency You Should Know!
7 Warning Signs Of Vitamin D Deficiency You Should Know! Vitamin D deficiency is incredibly common in the US, but many Americans mistakenly believe they aren't at risk because they consume vitamin-D-fortified foods (such as milk). There are very few foods that actually have therapeutic levels of vitamin D naturally and even fortified foods do not contain enough vitamin D to support your health needs. Despite its name, vitamin D is not a regular vitamin. It's actually a steroid hormone that you are designed to obtain primarily through sun exposure, not via your diet. Two- thirds of African-American Men May Be at High Risk for Cardiovascular Disease
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A new University of Florida study finds that 65 percent of African-American men over age 40 are at high risk of having a heart attack or stroke within the next 10 years. That percentage represents a substantial increase over time, from 53.5 percent in 1999. The findings appear today in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. “Not only has this population shown a rise in risk, a significant majority of this group is at high risk for a 10-year major cardiovascular event. This is quite worrisome,” said lead investigator Arch G. Mainous III, Ph.D., chair of the department of health services research, management and policy in the UF College of Public Health and Health Professions, part of UF Health. The cardiovascular disease risk for most other population groups the team examined remained constant over time and actually decreased for two. Among white women, the prevalence of high cardiovascular disease risk fell from 9.6 percent to 5.8 percent, and among African-American women, the prevalence dropped from 15 percent to 10.6 percent. The study didn’t examine the reasons why African-American men’s cardiovascular disease risk factors have risen over time, but several elements may play a role, said co-author Ki Park, M.D., a clinical assistant professor of medicine in interventional cardiology at the UF College of Medicine and the Malcom Randall Veterans Affairs Medical Center. These may include inadequate prevention measures aimed at racial subgroups, psychosocial elements and a lack of access to routine health care. Mainous says the findings underscore the importance of prevention efforts targeted to African-American men, such as lowering their blood pressure and making lifestyle changes. Using tools that calculate heart disease risk scores can help identify people who could benefit from early interventions.

Yoghurt reduces the risk of a heart attack by up to 30% | Breaking News US/Australia

Sunshine is Superior to Vitamin D Supplements
A study out of the University of Edinburgh and presented at the International Investigative Dermatological Conference in May of 2013 reported that sunlight on skin lowers blood pressure by increasing the release of nitric oxide. They exposed 24 people to a tanning lamp for two 20 minute sessions where in one group the UV light was blocked and in the other it was not. Results showed that only in those people getting the UV light was there a drop in blood pressure. Other reported benefits of sunlight include treating seasonal affective disorder, lowering melatonin production, protection vs melanoma, healing psoriasis and atopic dermatitis, and helping in scleroderma and multiple sclerosis. Keep in mind that burns increase the risk for squamous and basal cell skin cancers. Just the right dose is what we need! For more information please visit www.doctorsaputo.com

What it is, how it's absorbed and metabolized, it's health benefits, and some recommendations about supplementation. Because of the importance of calcium, especially in growing children and older adults at risk of osteoporosis, many professional organizations recommend supplementing vitamin D intake. It's worth noting that the darker your skin, the more sun exposure you need to generate adequate levels of vitamin D. For example, a caucasian individual of northern European descent generates more vitamin D than an african american individual in the same amount of time. Below are the recommended daily allowances. Please consult your primary care physician to make sure you have appropriate levels of vitamin D. In the US, vitamin D levels can safely be consumed up to 2000 IU/day. Myth of Vitamin D Deficiency AND Sodium, Potassium & Cardiovascular Disease
Wondering why so many people are being diagnosed with vitamin D deficiency? One reason is that the threshold for deficiency has been lowered – a lot. While many people continue to blame our epidemic of hypertension on salt, studies continue to show that while salt restriction can be beneficial for a few, it is not a good idea for most.

How Much Space Will We Really Need If We Stand Together?
According to the most recent United Nations estimates, there’s currently 7.6 billion people in the world. These people are spread across the globe throughout 195 countries, with a majority of them living in China, India, the United States, Indonesia, and Brazil. But what if we could gather them all up in one place, what area would we cover? And what else can we do with 7.6 billion human beings? If we stacked them on top of each other, could we reach the moon? Well, stay tuned because we’re about to answers these questions and tons more! TIMESTAMPS What if everyone stood together 1:11 What if everyone jumped together 3:07 What kind of building would fit us all in 3:42 What if we all relocated to New York 4:22 What if all the people that’d ever lived got together 5:30 What if we all got in line around the Equator 6:10 What if we all got on top of each other 6:59 Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music SUMMARY -With 7.6 billion of us, that adds up to 190 billion square inches, which equals 47 square miles. We’d fit into just three-fourths of Liechtenstein, a tiny country in Europe that’s roughly the size of Washington, D.C. -If all 7.6 billion of us crammed into a single space decide to jump at once, our combined weight (some 800 billion pounds) could actually move the Earth. -If we wanted to move the entire human race into one building and live together, we’d have to build a 42-billion-cubic-foot structure that reaches 3,511 feet into the air. It would be 29% taller than the Burj Khalifa, the tallest skyscraper in the world. -Approximately 590 million people can fit in Manhattan, 1.4 billion in Brooklyn, 2.89 billion in Queens, 1.3 billion in the Bronx, and 1.51 billion in Staten Island. -Scientists estimate that roughly 108 billion people have walked this Earth at some point or another, and just 7% of them are alive right now. We’d need about 4,169 square miles of space, so they could reasonably fit inside Jamaica, Qatar, Kuwait, the Gambia, or even Connecticut. -Our planet has an equatorial circumference of about 24,900 miles. Our line would be about 1 million, 394 thousand, 400 miles long, which means we could wrap around the entire Earth 56 times. -With 7.6 billion people standing on top of each other’s shoulders, we’d only need 286 million people to reach the moon, a distance of 238,855 miles. But our epic human tower would be 6.4 million miles high, which would get us one-fifth of the way to Mars. Vitamin D not flu shots
Another influenza season is beginning, and the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will strongly urge Americans to get a flu shot. In fact, the CDC mounts a well-orchestrated campaign each season to generate interest and demand for flu shots. But a recent study published in the October issue of the Archives of Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine found that vaccinating young children against the flu appeared to have no impact on flu-related hospitalizations or doctor visits during two recent flu seasons. At first glance, the data did suggest that children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years derived some protection from vaccination in these years. But after adjusting for potentially relevant variables, the researchers concluded that "significant influenza vaccine effectiveness could not be demonstrated for any season, age, or setting" examined. Additionally, a Group Health study found that flu shots do not protect elderly people against developing pneumonia -- the primary cause of death resulting as a complication of the flu. Others have questioned whether there is any mortality benefit with influenza vaccination. Vaccination coverage among the elderly increased from 15 percent in 1980 to 65 percent now, but there has been no decrease in deaths from influenza or pneumonia. There is some evidence that flu shots cause Alzheimers disease, most likely as a result of combining mercury with aluminum and formaldehyde. Mercury in vaccines has also been implicated as a cause of autism. Three other serious adverse reactions to the flu vaccine are joint inflammation and arthritis, anaphylactic shock (and other life-threatening allergic reactions), and Guillain-Barré syndrome, a paralytic autoimmune disease. One credible hypothesis that explains the seasonal nature of flu is that influenza is a vitamin D deficiency disease. Vitamin D levels in your blood fall to their lowest point during flu seasons. Unable to be protected by the bodys own antibiotics (antimicrobial peptides) that are released by vitamin D, a person with a low vitamin D blood level is more vulnerable to contracting colds, influenza, and other respiratory infections. Studies show that children with rickets, a vitamin D-deficient skeletal disorder, suffer from frequent respiratory infections, and children exposed to sunlight are less likely to get a cold. The increased number of deaths that occur in winter, largely from pneumonia and cardiovascular diseases, are most likely due to vitamin D deficiency. Unfortunately, now, for the first time, flu vaccination is also being pushed for virtually all children -- not just those under 5. This is a huge change. Previously, flu vaccine was recommended only for youngsters under 5, who can become dangerously ill from influenza. This year, the government is recommending that children from age 6 months to 18 years be vaccinated, expanding inoculations to 30 million more school-age children. The government argues that while older children seldom get as sick as the younger ones, it's a bigger population that catches flu at higher rates, so the change should cut missed school, and parents' missed work when they catch the illness from their children. Of course, this policy ignores the fact that a systematic review of 51 studies involving 260,000 children age 6 to 23 months found no evidence that the flu vaccine is any more effective than a placebo. How To Naturally Cleanse And Purify Your Lungs For Better Lifestyle
It goes without saying that the lungs are a very important organ. Without them, you couldn’t breathe, and without breath, you cease to exist. They’re a part of the respiratory system, working with other organs and tissues to help you breathe, and every single cell in the body needs oxygen to live. The lungs are what move oxygen into the bloodstream where it’s carried throughout the body when you inhale. When you exhale, the waste, in the form of carbon dioxide, is removed. Here are 5 Ways you can cleanse and purify your lungs 1.Deep Breathing Exercises Practicing deep breathing exercises helps to strengthen your lungs, just like a workout in the gym helps to keep your body fit. It’s one of the simplest things you can do, but also one of the most beneficial. Deep breathing is simply slowly inhaling while consciously expanding the belly. You allow your ribs to expand followed by your upper chest. Once you’ve taken a full inhale, you’ll exhale as completely as you possibly can by allowing your chest to fall, and then contracting your ribs.  Repeat this 5-10 times, with the goal to practice once or twice every day. 2.Eliminate Household Toxins The average household has been estimated to contain about 62 toxic chemicals, which includes chemicals that are part of cleansers, detergents, bleaches, things like chemically-scented air fresheners, as well as a wide range of cosmetics and personal care products. These toxins are all harmful to your lungs, and your overall health. Your first step is to look for chemical-free alternatives to eliminate as many as you can. 3.Improve Your Indoor Air by Adding Plants You also might want to consider investing in an air purifier to remove allergens and other irritants from the air in your home in addition to indoor plants. Plants not only bring life to any living space, many can help remove toxins as well Plants like peace lily, snake plant, English ivy can freshen up your home by removing harmful toxins from the air. 4.Get Your Vitamin-D Research has shown that those with higher levels of vitamin D have better lung functioning. The experts believe that the vitamin helps to lower inflammation, which in turn boosts lung health. So be sure to get outside in the sun for 15 minutes a day in order for your skin to produce its own vitamin D naturally – there’s a reason it’s called the sunshine vitamin. 5.Invest in a Himalayan Salt Inhaler Salt inhalation therapy has been around for centuries, used to boost lung capacity and overall respiratory strength. Research in the 19th century discovered that breathing the air in salt mines could reduce respiratory problems and irritation caused by air pollution. Salt is a natural cleansing expectorant and can help to reduce excess mucus and a stuffy nose too. In this case, potassium prevents osteoporosis and, most importantly, lowers your blood pressure. -Avocados are high in antioxidants, especially carotenoids called lutein and zeaxanthin, which protect our eyes against harmful blue light. -The ability of avocados to give that extra bit of protection from cancer comes from the carotenoids and monounsaturated fat they contain, both of which make their own contribution to the impressive reduction of cancer. -Avocados are rich in fiber, which is essential for making those unwanted pounds disappear. Fiber is incredibly filling and digests slowly. -Thanks to vitamins C and E avocados help to maintain the skin's elasticity and firmness. Powerful Medicine: Vitamin D by Lucinda Messer ND
Official book trailer for Powerful Medicine: Vitamin D by Lucinda Messer ND - http://www.powerfulmedicine-vitd.com Genre: Health Publisher: Dog Ear Publishing (2010) ISBN: 978-160844-327-7 Price: 16.95 - paperback / 9.99 e-book Available: Worldwide through bookstores, BarnesAndNoble.com and Amazon.com. http://www.powerfulmedicine-vitd.com Did you know that vitamin D deficiency is indirectly responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths worldwide? According to author and Naturopathic Doctor Lucinda Messer, the lack of sunshine, whether it's due to higher latitudes, cloudy days, polluted air, or because our skin is soaked in sunscreen or covered in clothing, is a major reason we have epidemic cases of cancer and auto-immune diseases all over the world. Messer says, "Vitamin D is the cheapest, most cost effective health insurance you could ever purchase." In her eye-opening book Powerful Medicine: Vitamin D, Shedding Light on a Worldwide Health Crisis, Messer not only explains the catastrophic effects of vitamin D deficiency, but she details the powerful effects that ensue when optimal levels are achieved in the body. For example, activated vitamin D can: halt tumor growth, reduce tumor size, improve heart health, improve insulin production, improve mental health and provide protection from the common cold, viruses and much, much more. Messer's book is poised to be a crucial wake-up call for people who assume they have sufficient vitamin D blood levels. "In my 15 years of clinical practice, I have rarely seen any patient with a baseline serum level of vitamin D over 30 ng/ml. This means is there is not enough activated vitamin D available in their blood to fight off viruses, microbes, cancer cells and to arm them against auto-immunity, leaving them defenseless to attack and at risk for succumbing to numerous diseases." Read Powerful Medicine today and learn how become powerfully healthy. About Dog Ear Publishing: Dog Ear Publishing offers completely customized self-publishing services for independent authors.
