Your medication Divalproex Divalproex sodium is also known by the brand name: Depakote, Depakote ER and Depakote Sprinkle capsules. Divalproex sodium comes in 125, 250, and 500 mg tablets, 250 and 500mg extended release tablets, and 125mg sprinkle capsule. Divalproex sodium is most commonly used to treat seizures, bipolar problems, and prevent migraine headaches. No matter what your doctor has you taking it for, divalproex sodium is taken by mouth with or without food 1 to 4 times a day. If upset stomach occurs, take divalproex sodium with food. If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your normal dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. For best results take each dose at the same time each day. Extended-release tablets must be swallowed whole, do not split or break tablets. Divalproex Sprinkle capsules may be swallowed whole or the capsule may be opened and sprinkled on small amount (1 teaspoonful) of soft food like pudding, or applesauce. This is to be used immediately (do not store or chew). Some common side effects with divalproex sodium include headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, tiredness, weakness, tremor, dizziness, blurry eye sight, and loss of hunger. Some less common side effects include swelling of the arms or legs, high or low blood pressure, weight gain, and constipation. Do not take divalproex sodium if: you are pregnant, have liver problems or under the age of 2 years. This medication should not be abruptly discontinued because of the possibility of increasing seizure frequency. While taking divalproex sodium, remember it is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist if: • You have signs of an allergic reaction (rash, itching, swelling, tightness of the chest, etc.) • You have dark urine, are feeling tired, are not hungry, have an upset stomach, are throwing up, or have yellowing of the skin or eyes. • Are pregnant as this drug may cause very bad birth defects. If you are or become pregnant and take this drug for seizures or bipolar disorder, talk to your doctor to see if you need to keep taking this drug. All forms of divalproex sodium including the liquid needs to be stored at room temperature in a dry place away from children or pets.

Generalized anxiety disorder - Medical Definition and Pronunciation

02:01
Generalized anxiety disorder Generalized anxiety disorder: Abbreviated GAD. A condition characterized by 6 months or more of chronic, exaggerated worry and tension that is unfounded or much more severe than the normal anxiety most people experience. People with GAD usually expect the worst. They worry excessively about money, health, family, or work, even when there are no signs of trouble. They are unable to relax and often suffer from insomnia. Sometimes the source of the worry is hard to pinpoint. Simply the thought of getting through the day provokes anxiety. Many people with GAD also have physical symptoms, such as fatigue, trembling, muscle tension, headaches, irritability or hot flashes. People with GAD may feel lightheaded or out of breath. They also may feel nauseated or have to go to the bathroom frequently. Nearly 3% of the adult US population age 18 to 54 has GAD during the course of a given year. GAD most often strikes in childhood or adolescence, but can also begin in adulthood. It affects women more often than men, may run in families, and may also grow worse with stress. GAD often coexists with depression, substance abuse, and other anxiety disorders. Irritable bowel syndrome, often accompanies GAD. Treatment for GAD includes medications and cognitive-behavioral therapy. Placebo is as effective as drugs to prevent migranes in kids

05:23
According to an article published in the January issue of the journal, Pediatrics, placebo is as effective as drugs in preventing migraine headaches in children. Only two drugs, Topamax and trazadone, worked better than placebo, and the very minimal benefits were not worth the risks from side effects. The benefit of placebo was a reduction from six headaches per month to three. The two drugs reduced headaches by one additional headache per month. Drugs such as inderal (beta blocker) and Depakote were no better than placebo! So why are doctors not prescribing placebos for migraine headaches in kids? Would it be more ethical to use dangerous treatments? Hardly! There are many ways to deal with headaches in both kids and adults such as chiropractic, acupuncture, hypnotherapy, medication, yoga, tai chi, qigong, massage, psychotherapy, orthopedic medicine, and photonic stimulation (photonic stimulation). Dr. Len has used photonic stimulation to treat and prevent most all kinds of headaches very successfully. It has been unusual for him to not relieve a headache within 5 minutes (no not a misprint!) and to prevent further headaches using this plus other integrative strategies. VALPROATE ADVERSE EFFECTS : Anti epileptic drug PHARMACOLOGY

03:59
1. How to recollect the ADVERSE effects of VALPROATE ? 2. Mnemonics for ADVERSE effects of VALPROATE . Valproic acid affects chemicals in the body that may be involved in causing seizures. Valproic acid is used to treat various types of seizure disorders. Valproic acid is sometimes used together with other seizure medications. Valproic acid is also used to treat manic episodes related to bipolar disorder (manic depression), and to prevent migraine headaches. Valproic acid may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide. Do not use valproic acid to prevent migraine headaches if you are pregnant. If you take valproic acid for seizures or manic episodes: Do not start or stop taking the medicine during pregnancy without your doctor's advice. You should not use valproic acid if you have liver disease, a urea cycle disorder, or a genetic disorder such as Alpers' disease or Alpers-Huttenlocher syndrome (especially in a child younger than 2 years old). Valproic acid can cause liver failure that may be fatal, especially in children under age 2 and in people with liver problems caused by a genetic mitochondrial (MYE-toe-KON-dree-al) disorder. Call your doctor at once if the person taking this medicine has signs of liver or pancreas problems, such as: loss of appetite, upper stomach pain (that may spread to your back), ongoing nausea or vomiting, dark urine, swelling in the face, or jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes). You should not use valproic acid if you are allergic to it, or if you have: liver disease;a urea cycle disorder; ora genetic mitochondrial (MYE-toe-KON-dree-al) disorder such as Alpers' disease or Alpers-Huttenlocher syndrome, especially in a child younger than 2 years old. Valproic acid can cause liver failure that may be fatal, especially in children under age 2 and in people with liver problems caused by a genetic mitochondrial disorder. To make sure valproic acid is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have: liver problems caused by a genetic mitochondrial disorder;a history of depression, mental illness, or suicidal thoughts or actions;a family history of a urea cycle disorder or infant deaths with unknown cause; orHIV or CMV (cytomegalovirus) infection. Some young people have thoughts about suicide when first taking valproic acid. Your doctor will need to check your progress at regular visits while you are using this medicine. Your family or other caregivers should also be alert to changes in your mood or symptoms. Do not use valproic acid to prevent migraine headaches if you are pregnant. If you take valproic acid for seizures or manic episodes: This medicine can harm an unborn baby or cause birth defects, and may affect cognitive ability (reasoning, intelligence, problem-solving) later in the child's life. However, having a seizure during pregnancy could harm both the mother and the baby. Do not start or stop taking valproic acid during pregnancy without your doctor's advice. Use effective birth control while using valproic acid, and tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant. Tell your doctor if you start or stop using hormonal contraception that contains estrogen (birth control pills, injections, implants, skin patches, and vaginal rings). Estrogen can interact with valproic acid and make it less effective in preventing seizures. Seizure control is very important during pregnancy. The benefit of preventing seizures may outweigh any risks posed by taking valproic acid. There may be other seizure medications that can be more safely used during pregnancy

Reportagem acerca do Rivotril (Receita Perigosa - Record).mov

05:13

Veja por que em mais uma reportagem da série Receita Perigosa, do Jornal da Record.
