14 early warning signs of cancer is growing in your body

04:00
#cancer #symptoms #signs cancer signs 14 early warning signs of cancer is growing in your body Here are signs that are commonly ignored: 1. Wheezing or shallow breathing If you ask lung cancer patients what the first thing they noticed was, the majority would say it was their difficulty with breathing, or trouble catching their breath. 2. Chronic coughing or pain in the chest area Chest pain, incessant coughing, and even pain that reaches down the arms are symptoms of leukemia and lung tumors. 3. Frequently having fevers or infections White blood cells help our body to fight off infections and foreign invaders. Leukemia is a type of blood cell cancer that begins in bone marrow and causes the body to produce abnormal white blood cells, which reduces the effectiveness of its ability to fight infections. 4. Trouble with swallowing If you have difficulty swallowing, you may want to get checked for preliminary esophageal or throat cancer. It is also associated with lung cancer as well. 5. Lymph nodes that are swollen or lumps on the skin of your neck, underarm, or groin Any drastic changes in your lymphatic system should be carefully observed. These changes could be warning signs of lymphatic cancer. 6. Over-bruising and excessive bleeding When platelets and red blood cells act abnormally, there becomes excessive bruising and bleeding. This symptom can be a sign of leukemia. 7. Constant fatigue Feeling weakness in your body, and constant fatigue are symptoms of several different kinds of cancer. You’ll need to examine these symptoms in conjunction with other ones as well. As a general rule, if you ever feel exhasuted to where you can barely move without any physical reason, see your doctor. 8. Bloating in the abdomen or localized weight gain Women with ovarian cancer reported having “inexplicable abdominal bloating.” They said this bloating and weight gain happened suddenly, and appeared, disappeared, and reappeared for a long time. 9. Loss of appetite and feeling full This symptom is a warning sign for ovarian cancer as well. A vast majority of women said they “just couldn’t eat,” even if it had been a while since their last meal. 10. Pain the pelvis or abdominal area Leukemia and ovarian cancer can cause abdominal and pelvic pain. 11. Bleeding from the rectum or blood in stool This is a symptom commonly found in those diagnosed with colon cancer. If you ever notice blood in your stool, it is advisable to schedule a visit to your physician. 12. Rapid and unexplained weight loss Rapidly losing weight is a warning sign of digestive and colon cancers. It is also a sign that cancer has infected the liver. It you lose your appetite and stop producing a normal amount of waste, see your doctor.. 13. Digestive pain or stomachache having stomach cramps or frequent upset stomach pain may indicate colon or stomach cancer. 14. A red, sore, or swollen breast These are signs of breast cancer and should be examined by a physician. 15. Changes to the nipple If the nipple starts to look flattened, inverted, or turned sideways, see your doctor about possible breast cancer. Women diagnosed with breast cancer say the first thing they noticed was the changes to their nipples. 16. Abnormally heavy or painful periods/Bleeding in between cycles Several women say this is the number one symptom of endometrial or uterine cancer. Request a transvaginal ultrasound if your menstrual cycle has any significant changes. 17. Puffiness in the face Lung cancer patients report noticing “puffiness, swelling, or redness” in the face. This happens because lung tumors tend to block blood vessels, which stops oxygenated blood from flowing to your neck and face. 18. A sore that doesn’t heal Get to know the various kinds of skin cancer. Melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma are three common types. Check your skin for odd growths or spots. 19. Changes in fingernails Liver cancer, skin cancer, and lung cancer all show warning signs through the finger nails. Black spots, or lines, whitening and thickening around the edges, and “clubbing” are all signs you should pay attention to. ====================================================== DISCLAIMER ON COMMENTS & ADVICE GIVEN: Please note that the below information is designed to provide general information on the topics presented. What is Thyroid Cancer? – Health Topics

04:27
Aru Panwar, MD — Head and Neck Oncologist, Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Learn more about Dr. Aru Panwar or find another provider on http://www.mhsdoctors.com. TRANSCRIPT: Thyroid cancer is one of the common type of cancers that are seen in the United States, amongst many cancers that we encounter. It is one of the ones that incidence is rising still. Fortunately, many of the thyroid cancers are well behaved cancers and I use that word very carefully because with appropriate treatment cure and long term productive life is very much in sight. So, we see a lot of patients who get identified with thyroid nodules. These are lumps that may form on the thyroid gland. Fortunately, a vast majority of those nodules are benign or noncancerous but some can be cancerous. In those circumstances we carefully choose which patients would require surgery and following surgery a minority of patients may require additional treatment a form of treatment called radioactive iodine which is a pill form of treatment but generally most of our patients tend to do very well. They live long productive healthy happy lives and that's our goal. So, the thyroid gland is a butterfly shaped organ that lives in the front part of the neck. It straddles the windpipe. It has two lobes. The right side on the left side. It produces hormones that regulate metabolism and hormones that interact with a wide variety of other organ systems disturbances of Thyroid hormones can occur even without nodules or without cancers. Those are often medically treated those conditions disturbances of Thyroid hormone can lead to a wide variety of symptoms which can really span from very innocuous or very trivial issues related to skin abnormalities, nail or hair abnormalities, to more serious conditions which relate to how the heart functions and how patients have mental clarity. And other similar things. Fortunately, most patients who have thyroid surgery, depending on the extent of the surgery, if they require Thyroid hormone replacement can be very well treated by way of pill form of hormone therapy. It is usually one pill that they take every morning. It is well tolerated. Labs can be checked periodically but not very often. Once the Thyroid hormone level has been in a fairly steady state then the lab checks may not be more frequently than six or 12 months. So patients generally do well with those medications. Most patients who receive a Thyroidectomy are brought into the hospital on the day of surgery they undergo surgery and then subsequently are observed for a few hours in a short stay area and subsequently they're able to go home the same day. We encourage them to get up out of bed and sit in a chair walk around normally. There are there is no requirement for bed rest. Patients do not usually have any restrictions in terms of their speech or in terms of swallowing. They can be on a normal diet afterwards. They usually don't require much in terms of pain medications. We've learned that most patients would have good pain control with medications such as Tylenol or ibuprofen and use of ice packs. So, most patients don't even require narcotic medications. They get back to their routine lives fairly quickly. We usually don't use any drain tubes; the incisions are closed with dissolving stitches and some superglue-like-material; patients can usually shower the next day. They don't have to apply any bandages and generally they bounce back pretty quickly. There are some minor precautions that we recommend. For example, just because if you have a neck incision and it's a little stiff and sore may be driving and turning quickly to look at the blindspot may not be easy to do. So, I usually tell my patients that they may exercise caution before the first week, in terms of driving. We usually advise them not to do any heavy lifting for two weeks. We expect and encourage them to return to their routine lives pretty quickly.

Oncogenes and proto oncogenes

13:12
This cancer biology lecture explains about the structure and function of oncogene and proto oncogene. This lecture also explains the transformation of proto oncogene into oncogene that ultimately leads to the development of cancer. The genes that code for the positive cell cycle regulators are called proto-oncogenes. Proto-oncogenes are normal genes that, when mutated in certain ways, become oncogenes: genes that cause a cell to become cancerous. There are several ways by which a proto-oncogene can be converted into an oncogene . Colin Champ - Cancer Prevention Through Diet

57:06
This lecture is part of the IHMC Evening Lecture series. https://www.ihmc.us/life/evening_lectures/ In this presentation, Dr. Champ discusses the evidence of the role diet plays in helping us reduce our risk of cancer - from over a hundred years ago to present day. He synthesizes this data to leave the listener with tangible dietary recommendations that are able to be both followed and enjoyed to help lower the risk of cancer. Colin Champ M.D. is an oncologist and assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center where he practices radiation oncology and integrative medicine, while researching the impact of diet and exercise on cancer incidence and treatment. His work has been published in many peer-reviewed journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine and Journal of Clinical Oncology. Recently, he founded the Cancer Prevention Project, to provide the public with recommendations to help prevent cancer with tangible lifestyle changes. He began viewing medicine and health with a critical eye during his studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and he continues to question current medical studies and recommendations for scientific backing. He has an uncanny ability to synthesize complex health topics to make them understandable and entertaining to the common reader and blogs for several online sources including his own website, colinchamp.com. He Is author of Misguided Medicine and Misguided Medicine: Second Edition. He has been invited to present his research around the world and has been featured in many media outlets including the Boston Globe, the National Cancer Institute, the Gupta Guide with Sanjay Gupta, and the American Society for Clinical Oncology.

What is cancer?

02:53
The doodle animated video forms part of a new set of e-learning modules (see http://www.e-lfh.org.uk/programmes/cancer-in-the-community) produced by The Royal Marsden School to provide an overview of the key issues in cancer care and to raise awareness of them. The four e-learning sessions in this programme cover the following topics: - Cancer Prevention and Screening - Cancer Diagnosis and Staging - Cancer Treatments - Living With and Beyond Cancer The materials have been written by clinical specialists and experts at The Royal Marsden School and will enable healthcare professionals of all grades, working in a range of community settings, to broaden their knowledge of key aspects of cancer care. This work was commissioned by Health Education England (HEE) and is available nationally. Key features include: • Videos and animation to enhance the learning and emphasise key areas • Quizzes to embed learning and track progress • 'Deeper dive' resources and workbook to enable learners to explore topics in more depth, and to record their own personal learning and reflection • Certificate upon completion This e-learning course will be relevant to all qualified and non-qualified community-based health and social care workers, including community matrons, nursing staff, allied health professionals (including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and dieticians) and support workers who meet patients with cancer. The modules are available on the e-learning for healthcare website (either on an open access basis or for registered users) or you can download the source files from the NHS eLearning Repository to use in your own Learning Management System or Virtual Learning Environment. Alternatively, if you are unable to download from these sources or would like further information, please contact the School: The Royal Marsden School The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust Telephone: 0207 808 2117 Email: school@rmh.nhs.uk www.royalmarsdenschool.ac.uk Background A number of national guidance and policy documents have highlighted a need to develop cancer services and education. Approximately 1.8 million people in England are currently living with a diagnosis of cancer; this number is increasing by over 3% each year and the total figure will rise to over three million by 2030 (DH Macmillan, 2013). Evidence shows that many cancer survivors have unmet needs particularly at the end of treatment, whilst others are struggling with consequences that could be either avoided or managed (Armes, 2009). The third annual report of the Improving Outcomes: A Strategy for Cancer (DH 2013) highlights that since 2011 some progress has been made in addressing these needs but that more needs to be done. One recommendation from the All Party Parliamentary Group on Cancer (APPGC) is that GPs and community staff need more education and support to help them identify cancer signs and symptoms (leading to earlier diagnosis); manage patient on treatment and be able to develop stratified care pathways to improve aftercare. Transcript There are an estimated 2.5 million people in the UK who have had a diagnosis of cancer. The lifetime risk of cancer has increased over time a recent study published by the researchers from Queen Mary University in London estimates one in two people who are between the ages of 18 and 65 will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lifetime. We are an aging society and this increase in the lifetime risk its predominantly driven by the demography of age. People are living longer and therefore they have higher chance of getting cancer other risk factors of cancer include smoking obesity and dietary habits. Cancer is not one disease it is a collection of diseases there are over 100 different types of cancer and many sub types. For example, leukaemia is the cancer of blood cells, lymphoma originates from lymphatic cells, and carcinomas originate in the organs of the body such as breast, lung or colon. There are billions of cells in our body and most of these cells are continually growing and dividing to replace old damaged cells in the body. Normal cell division is a highly complex and highly regulated process and it is controlled by regulate genes. When a cell loses its ability to follow the rules of normal cell division it grows out of control and may become cancerous. All tumours are not cancerous, some tumours are malignant and some tumours are benign. Cancer cells have the ability to invade and destroy adjacent organs and spread to other parts of the body. This spread of cancer from its original site is called Metastasis.

Researchers and physicians at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center are creating a tissue bank of tumor types. This is enabling them to discover specific genetic biomarkers for various tumors and types of cancer. This library of tumor types will help doctors diagnose and treat cancers on a molecular level. All 50 Secrets of the Sequence videos have an accompanying classroom-tested lesson that encourages students to further explore the video topics. Each lesson includes background information, state and national science standards, discussion questions and answers, teacher notes and an activity that will ensure a hands-on, "minds-on" experience. Bill Doyle: Treating cancer with electric fields

15:36
http://www.ted.com Surgery, chemotherapy and radiation are the best-known methods for treating cancer. At TEDMED, Bill Doyle presents a new approach, called Tumor Treating Fields, which uses electric fields to interrupt cancer cell division. Still in its infancy -- and approved for only certain types of cancer -- the treatment comes with one big benefit: quality of life. TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the "Sixth Sense" wearable tech, and "Lost" producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at http://www.ted.com/translate If you have questions or comments about this or other TED videos, please go to http://support.ted.com

The anatomy of a female breast A mature human female's breast consists of fat, connective tissue and thousands of lobules - tiny glands which produce milk. The milk of a breastfeeding mother goes through tiny ducts (tubes) and is delivered through the nipple. The breast, like any other part of the body, consists of billions of microscopic cells. These cells multiply in an orderly fashion - new cells are made to replace the ones that died. In cancer, the cells multiply uncontrollably, and there are too many cells, progressively more and more than there should be. Cancer that begins in the lactiferous duct (milk duct), known as ductal carcinoma, is the most common type. Cancer that begins in the lobules, known as lobular carcinoma, is much less common. Women who detect any of the following signs or symptoms should tell their doctor (NHS, UK): • A lump in a breast • A pain in the armpits or breast that does not seem to be related to the woman's menstrual period • Pitting or redness of the skin of the breast; like the skin of an orange • A rash around (or on) one of the nipples • A swelling (lump) in one of the armpits • An area of thickened tissue in a breast • One of the nipples has a discharge; sometimes it may contain blood • The nipple changes in appearance; it may become sunken or inverted • The size or the shape of the breast changes • The nipple-skin or breast-skin may have started to peel, scale or flake. • For further detail following link and topics may be visited: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/37136.php "breast cancer" "breast cancer symptoms" "breast cancer awareness month" "breast cancer awareness" "signs of breast cancer" "symptoms of breast cancer" "breast cancer ribbon" "triple negative breast cancer" "metastatic breast cancer" "breast cancer walk" "breast cancer stages" "breast cancer facts" "breast cancer treatment" "stage 4 breast cancer" "types of breast cancer" "breast cancer survival rate" "breast cancer signs" "breast cancer shirts"

Basal Cell Cancer Overview [Dermatology]

This video discusses the basal cell skin cancer and its different levels as well as treatment options. In fact, there's more basal-cell cancers than all the other cancers combined. Now while basal-cell cancers have a very low chance of spreading internally, spreading to other organs, what we call metastasizing, they are still cancers and they still need to be respected and dealt with promptly. Because basal-cell cancers will get more and more locally destructive, and wreak havoc on the area in which it's growing. So, basal-cell cancers are formed from chronic UV damage that accumulates over a lifetime. And once you've had one basal-cell cancer, you have an increased chance of having more types of skin cancer, so it's vitally important that you look yourself over every month to make sure that nothing is new, changing, growing or simply not healing. One of the biggest signs of a basal-cell cancer on your skin is a spot that you think is a pimple, but that pimple simply won't go away. In other words, all of us get pimples from time to time, but these guys heal within a week or two. If you have a pimple that lasts for 3, 4, 5 months, it's probably not a pimple, and you really need to see a dermatologist to figure out what is going on with that area..." Effective Breast Cancer Treatment Options Avoids Surgery Chemo

Breast Cancer Treatment Options Without Chemo or Surgery http://vci.org/breastcancer.htm "When you're first diagnosed, you have a lot of emotions that you go through. Initially, you're shocked, and then you think, "Why me?". And then, overall, you just confront the issue head on. I come from a hollistic background, I'm a chiropractor, so as a hollistic practitioner, you realize, people are getting healed, but there are some other methods out there that are working as well. My primary care physician, his only options were to Cut, Poison, and Burn, which is the traditional medical option, which is surgery, chemo, and radiation. When I looked for treatment options, I wanted something that was going to give me a good quality of life...I was very happy with the outcome. The staff and the facility here, you guys were wonderful. BREAST CANCER-TYPES AND PREVENTIONS.

05:58
Ways To Reduce Your Risk of Cancer

01:01
Here at the Irish Cancer Society our vision is to achieve a future without cancer. Did you know half of all cancers can be prevented? Here are some simple tips to reduce your risk: Do not smoke. Avoid second hand smoke. One in three of all cancers is related to smoking. Maintain a healthy weight and be physically active while eating a balanced diet. Avoid alcohol. Drinking alcohol can cause at least seven types of cancer. Be SunSmart as skin cancer is the most common cancer in Ireland and the most preventable. Finally, have regular check-ups and take part in organised screenings for bowel, breast and cervical cancers. They’re a good way of spotting signs that could be cancer or could lead to it. They improve your chance of beating it. If you’d like more information on our twelve tips for reducing your risk of cancer, or advice on any of these topics you can visit our website at www.cancer.ie/europeancode or call us at Freephone 1800 200 700. The European Code Against Cancer, developed by the International Agency for Research on Cancer and the European Commission 2014, aims to inform people about actions they can take for themselves or their families to reduce their risk of cancer. Cancer specialists and scientists from across Europe compiled the code based on the latest scientific evidence on cancer prevention. It consists of twelve recommendations that most people can follow without any special skills or advice. The more recommendations people follow, the lower their risk of cancer will be. I wanted to help him get deal with it, so I did a lot of research on reputable medical websites like these, I'll summarize some of what I learned about pancreas cancer in the next few moments. To start, it helps to take a moment to talk about what the pancreas is, where it is and what it does. The pancreas is an organ in your abdomen that lies horizontally behind the lower part of your stomach. It secretes enzymes and hormones that play an important role in digestion, and also help regulate your body's metabolism. Pancreas cancer usually starts in the cellular lining the ducts of the pancreas. Generally, pancreas cancer tends to be aggressive. It usually spreads very quickly, but symptoms don't present until it's in an advanced stage. For that reason, the prognosis is poor and treatment is, in the long run, ineffective. Researchers haven't determined yet exactly what triggers cancer to start. But once it begins, it follows the same pattern as other types of cancer. Cells develop mutations in their DNA. Cells grow abnormally and live beyond the time they should typically die and be replaced by new cells. These abnormal cells accumulate and eventually, they form a forms. Anyone can get pancreas cancer, but there's a higher risk among those who * Have chronic pancreatitis, which is a prolonged inflammation of the pancreas * Have diabetes * Have a personal or family history of pancreatic cancer * Smoke often * Are obese I hope this short video has helped you learn more about pancreas cancer. But remember, your doctor should be your only source for information of any kind related to your health. I've created some other short videos that briefly cover topics related to pancreas cancer, including one on symptoms. Links are below.
