Ex Drug Rep -- Manipulating Doctors

09:58
Be My Friend - http://www.myspace.com/psychtruth Ex-Pharma Sales Reps talks about manipulating doctors to sell more drugs. In this video Gwen discusses some of the tactics used by some pharmaceutical sales reps to get doctors to prescribe their drugs. This included tactics like minimizing harmful side effects to doctors, presenting statistics in a slanted way, accusing anyone that speaks out against psychiatric drugs as being a Scientologist, psychological profiling of doctors to best know how to convince them to prescribe your drugs, etc. Gwen Olsen spent fifteen years as a pharmaceutical sales rep working for such healthcare giants as Johnson & Johnson, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Abbott Laboratories. She enjoyed a successful, fast-paced career until several conscious-altering experiences began awakening her to the dangers lurking in every American medicine cabinet. Her most poignant lessons, however, came as both victim and survivor of life-threatening adverse drug reactions. After leaving pharmaceutical sales in 2000, Gwen worked in the natural foods industry first as an Account Manager for Nature's Way, and then as a Regional Sales Manager for Gaia Herbs. She is currently a writer, speaker, and natural health consultant. The United States health care system is killing Americans at an alarming rate, even though we spend over fifteen percent of the Gross National Product (GNP) on health care. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, our health care outcomes ranked only fifteenth among twenty-five industrialized nations worldwide. Adverse effects from prescription drugs have become the third-leading killer of Americans. Only heart disease and cancer claim more lives. We trust our doctors to inform us and our government to protect us from medical malfeasance that may put profits ahead of consumer health and safety. But the fine line walked by the FDA between the interests of the pharmaceutical manufacturers and the American public has continually been crossed. The result is the unleashing of an unprecedented number of lethal drugs on the U.S. market! Gwen Olsen learned firsthand the danger that lurks in every American's medicine cabinet, working in the pharmaceutical industry. But her most poignant education would come as a victim and, ultimately, as a survivor. Big Pharmaceutical Companies Don’t Want You to Watch This Video and Neither Does Your Grandma

08:52
Want to be a drug addict? If you live in the U.S. chances are you probably already are. The U.S. - land of the free, of MTV, and of legal drugs. This might just be what makes America great. A place where our doctors prescribe us pills we don’t need for conditions that don’t exist. It’s a win-win. Big Pharma gets bigger and richer and we get higher or just die. Subscribe To My Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoFWz1e3VXKOoJ-E5cep1Eg Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Thought.Monkey.Community/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thought.monkey/ Music: FloFilz - Tilezeit The story was different 50 years ago when Jon went down to his dentist’s office to get his wisdom teeth pulled and the doctor gave him aspirin as pain medication. This was a time when young men went to war and women worked their asses off at home to save the country from collapse. Now? We get high, play video games, watch YouTube, and complain when someone doesn’t call us the right gender. And these days if old Jonny boy goes to the dentist and wants some work done it’s dealers choice. Vicodin. Percocet. Codeine. You name it. Whatever company happens to be in bed with your doctor that day. And if you don’t have private insurance that pays for your drugs? No problem. Sign up for Medicaid. You’ll definitely be able to get free drugs through them. First what exactly is the pharmaceutical industry? To make a long story short it’s a business that creates drugs for use as medications. It’s important to note that it’s not a terrible industry. In fact they have made some very important discoveries like insulin which has saved millions of lives or the countless vaccines that have protected us from at one point, very common diseases like measles and hepatitis. The problem is not the idea of pharmaceuticals – drugs are neither good nor bad. They can either be helpful or dangerous depending on their use. The problem with big pharma is that it is literally killing people. And it’s making a profit doing so. And our government is basically encouraging it. You may ask yourself how an industry that it supposed to be providing us medication which is regulated by the Federal Drug Administration – an organization responsible for “protecting the public health by assuring the safety, efficacy and security of human…drugs,” is killing us. Let’s first look at the health statistics: • 99% of hydrocodone worldwide use is in the U.S – we know this drug more colloquially as Vicodin (which is just a company that makes hydrocodone). This is a drug that the FDA rates as less dangerous as marijuana but in 2011 caused nearly 100,000 emergency department visits. • The U.S. makes up 5% of the world’s population but consumes 80% of its opioid consumption • On average 40 deaths per day are linked to specifically prescription opioids and over 100,000 deaths per year linked with prescription drugs in general. This is far more deaths than what illegal street drugs cause. • Prescription drugs are now the 4th leading cause of death in the U.S. Ok. You get the point. Prescription drugs are dangerous and they are killing people. But now the question is why are people taking them if they’re so dangerous? The answer lies in the incredible reach of big Pharma. The pharmaceutical industry spends between 30 and 60 billion dollars a year on advertising their miracle drugs. You’ve all seen their ads – blue skies, beautiful couple, trees – having trouble sleeping? Bad knees? Buy our pill and feel like new. And then the 10 second list of possible side effects which always include “and in extreme cases, death.” The folks that regulate these advertisements have a budget of $9 million dollars. Do you really think a $9 million dollar budget is enough to regulate something that is more than 6,000 times that size. This is not a David vs. Goliath story. This is an ant vs. an elephant. Big pharma is also notorious for selling drugs that aren’t approved for certain symptoms – a practice called Off-Label Promotion. For example your doctor might prescribe you an antidepressant because she or he believes it will help your migraines. This practice is at times is legal and at others illegal. If illegal you will learn shortly that the fine usually is smaller than the profit these companies make. Big pharma might just consider it another tax of doing business. And yes it has in some cases caused death. There is also the idea that big Pharma creates new illnesses and solves them with their pills. Sounds like a conspiracy theory, right? But actually it makes a lot of sense and you’ve probably seen an ad that talks about some made up illness and a pill to fix it without thinking twice. For example restless leg syndrome. Is that really an illness?

US pharm industry creates diseases to cure them

03:59
From Russia Today: http://rt.com/news/us-pharm-industry-disorders-drug/ Published: 14 February, 2011, 11:31 US pharmaceutical companies get creative when it comes to disorders and drugs to treat almost anything, from canine depression to female sexual dysfunction. The American drug trade is a multi-billion-dollar business, and is only getting bigger. Meanwhile the industry has been accused of illegally pushing medicine onto the market, often endangering the lives of patients. In the US, the most common medication prescribed for dogs is to treat aggression and anxiety disorders. Pharmacists admit that Prozac works terrifically on dogs. Yes, there is such a thing as doggy Prozac, a beef-flavored version of the well-known "human" anti-depressant, government-approved and being proscribed by veterinarians for canines in crisis. "There is a significant population of dogs which is really suffering from separation anxiety," reveals veterinary behaviorist E'Lise Christensen, from NYC Vet Specialists. The drug company, one of the largest, is banking on that. They believe up to 17 per cent of US dogs are suffering from this mental affliction. It is an idea some would scoff at, and as Christensen says "I definitely understand being skeptical." "Companies are desperate to keep up their profit margin, and do things to keep the margin up, even though the number of new drugs that are important in the pipeline has diminished," argues Dr. Sidney Wolfe, director of Public Citizen's Health Research. It turns out those companies do not need doggy drugs in order for critics to make that case. Medical researchers have crunched the numbers and found the pharmaceutical industry now tops the defense industry as the number one defrauder of the US government. "That was a finding that I didn't expect. No one had really ever looked at it before and it shows you how out-of-control really the pharmaceutical industry really is," Dr. Sidney Wolfe said. In some cases it is criminally out of control, perhaps helping this industry go from selling US$40 billion to $234 billion a year in prescription drugs. Over the last two decades, companies have been cheating and endangering patients. Their biggest violations are overcharging the government by billions and illegally marketing their drugs to treat conditions for which they have not proven safe or effective. One of the largest criminal penalties ever levied against an American corporation involved the drugs giant Pfizer. The illegal practices included essentially hiring positions despite the buzz about the drug, telling their colleagues to prescribe it for a condition it was not approved for. And when it comes to the drug companies, disease-pushers may not be an unfair way of describing them, as well as drug pushers -- that is what one filmmaker found when tracing a newly-minted disorder. "Female sexual dysfunction itself is something the pharm industry really pushed for and had a hand in creating," believes Liz Canner, filmmaker of Orgasm Inc. That is the conclusion Canner came to after following the process of a drug company developing female Viagra. She says only a small number of women need it, but the company has other plans. "Their marketing and the amount of money they're pouring into it really says they're trying to sell this to the whole population," insists Liz Canner. And with commercials for prescription drugs airing on TV in the US, companies are in a position to do just that. With billions being made and not much to lose, critics say even in the case of crime, for this industry nothing is likely to change. "Unless people go to jail unless the fines are much larger than they have been the companies will find that it's cheaper to cheat" Dr. Sidney Wolfe said. Companies that stop short of nothing to find some-syndrome, someone or something new to medicate. Conspiracy to Drug America? - Is Big Pharma Making Us Mentally Ill?

04:09
Pill Popping America - Is Big Pharma Making Us Mentally Ill? With ever growing numbers of Americans being diagnosed with mental illness and drug companies making massive profits for medicating the population for these supposed diseases and disorders, some important questions should be asked: Are so many of us truly mentally ill? - If the answer is yes, what is causing this upsurge in disorders? If the answer is no, why are so many people being diagnosed and placed on brain altering psychotropic drugs? - What are the long-term effects of these powerful chemicals on our individual and societal health? Should drug companies be allowed to market powerful drugs to the general public without a thorough discussion of the risks of consumption? What are your thoughts on mental illness in America, the pharmaceutical industry, the prevalent marketing of psychotropic drugs, and the effects of these drugs on health? Leave a comment below!

Bernie Sanders' Thoughts on Drug Company Fraud and High Cost of Medicine in America

07:13
On May 23, 2012, Senator Bernie Sanders criticized the exorbitant prices Americans pay for prescription drugs and the enormous amount of fraud that takes place within the pharmaceutical industry. Link: http://www.sanders.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/sanders-crack-down-on-pharmaceutical-fraud Abbott Labs, which agreed last month to pay $1.6 billion for illegally marketing the anti-seizure drug Depakote. The New York Times said the company also agreed to plead guilty to one misdemeanor charge for violating the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act for misbranding. Abbott Labs agreed to pay $421 million in 2010, along with two smaller companies, to settle charges that they deliberately spiked drug costs by up to 10 times the actual cost in order to boost reimbursements from Medicare and Medicaid. Pfizer, which paid $49 million to settle charges that a subsidiary defrauded the Medicaid program by overcharging for the cholesterol-lowering drug Lipitor. A division of Pfizer pleaded guilty to two felonies and agreed to pay $430 million to settle charges that it fraudulently promoted the drug Neurontin for a string of unapproved uses. GlaxoSmithKline, which in 2011 reached an "agreement in principle" to pay $3 billion to conclude the company's most significant ongoing federal government investigations into illegal sales and marketing practices for a diabetes drug that was severely restricted last year after it was linked to heart risks. Merck, which in 2009 reached a $670 million settlement for fraud on patients and Medicare/Medicaid involving a conspiracy with hospitals to give the elderly cheaper drugs but charging them for the more expensive product prescribed by the patients' doctors. Merck last year pleaded guilty to a criminal misdemeanor charge and paid a $950 million settlement for illegally promoting Vioxx for rheumatoid arthritis before that use was approved. Vioxx was linked to thousands of heart attacks and sudden cardiac deaths before it was pulled from the market in 2004. Johnson & Johnson last year illegally marketed Risperdal, an anti-psychotic medication, to nursing home patients, and paid over $2 billion in fines, a mere 6.3 percent of sales from the drug. www.ouramazingworld.org FB.com/ouramazingworldd Twitter.com/OAWoww

United States leads world in taking psychotropic drugs

03:36
The United States has a passion for pills, being the world's biggest users of psychotropic drugs, consuming 60 per cent of them. And pharmaceutical firms are keen to keep cashing in on the multibillion-dollar market, even if it costs people's health. America is regarded as a country with a prodigious appetite for consumption. Today, a widespread fondness for pharmaceuticals has turned the US into a nation of pill-poppers. With over $14 billion in annual sales, antipsychotics remain the top-selling therapeutic class of prescription drugs in the US. Dr. Harriet Fraad believes Big Pharma has manufactured a climate of insanity by manipulating and even creating illness for capital gain. "One of the things that drives Big Pharma is to find a diagnosis that is very vague, so that everybody can fall into that," she told RT. "Everybody is sad sometimes. There are good reasons. The point is to market pharmaceuticals. And the advertising strategy is to have vague diagnosis and then find wiggle room so that they apply to everyone." The US is the only Western country that allows direct-to-consumer advertising of prescription drugs. For example, an ad for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder warns that untreated patients will likely end up divorced. Another commercial promises to make you happier, but side-effects may include dry mouth, insomnia, sexual dysfunction, diarrhea, nausea and sleepiness." Critics also say Big Pharma uses its financial muscle to ply doctors with gifts, cash kick-backs and research funding in exchange for endorsing or prescribing the latest and most lucrative drugs. Harriet Fraad says there is a whole network of doctors hustling these drugs. "If a patient comes in with a knee injury and says, 'I'm so sad.' Oh, are you depressed? Hey write a prescription! They're given out like M&Ms." Last year, prescription drug abuse became the number one cause of accidental death, with more than 30,000 Americans overdosing. For instance, Seroquel, medication for bi-polar disorder, generated $4.4 billion in sales last year.Listing all its side-effects requires 49 seconds of air-time. The number of children consuming antipsychotic medication has doubled in the past decade. Millions of American adolescents are taking drugs like Adderall, doled out by doctors to treat hyperactivity. Author of Surviving America's Depression Epidemic, psychologist Bruce Levine, told RT that, "All these drugs are very similar to illicit or illegal drugs, except they're more dangerous. Marijuana is a little safer. But kids have no choice." Pfizer, America's most profitable multinational pharmaceutical company makes anti-depressants not only for people, but also for animals. In 2009, the pharmaceutical giant paid $2.3 billion to settle civil and criminal allegations over illegally marketing one of its drugs. It was the largest healthcare fraud settlement and criminal fine in US history. That being said, the fine amounted to less than three weeks of Pfizer's drug sales. "The money is so huge that the fines are immaterial. They're not thinking about the social effects of what they're doing. They're thinking about the profits they accrue," says psychotherapist Harriet Fraad. The pharmaceutical industry remains the most profitable business in the US. More success and financial gain for the companies will always remain possible as long as more Americans are encouraged to take drugs.

US Pharma Market Worth $475 Billion by 2020

01:01
The expansion of the insured population, prompted by the introduction of Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), will play a key role in driving US pharmaceutical market revenue up by a third by the end of the decade, says research and consulting firm GlobalData in market report, "CountryFocus: Healthcare, Regulatory and Reimbursement Landscape - US" Read more - http://marketinforesearch.com/medical-health-care-other-c-5_339_24/countryfocus-healthcare-regulatory-and-reimbursement-landscape-us-p-18896.html The report forecasts the country's pharmaceutical market value to climb from $359 billion in 2012 to $476 billion in 2020, increasing by 33% over the eight year period. With the PPACA (commonly known as Obamacare) extending health insurance to 32 million more Americans by 2016, patient pools and the demand for drug therapy are expected to increase significantly, driving up healthcare expenditure and pharmaceutical revenue as a result. Like many other countries around the world, the US is expected to experience growth in its elderly population, climbing from a 19% share of all Americans in 2012 to more than 22% by 2020. The expansion of the 60 and over age demographic is another factor that will inevitably drive the US pharmaceuticals industry, owing to the corresponding increase in healthcare demand. GlobalData also expects growth within the US medical devices industry in the near future, with the industry forecast to grow from $139 billion in 2012 to $206 billion in 2020, climbing at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 5.0%. The US medical equipment industry is one of the largest and most stable in the healthcare industry, accounting for 50% of the global market and consuming approximately 40% of its output. customercare@marketinforesearch.com

Pharmaceutical Company Cuts Outlook Due to Patent Expirations and Strong Dollar

00:48
Pfizer's (PFE) new drugs pipeline gave their first quarter earnings a boost on Tuesday. The company beat estimates posting profits of $2.4B or $0.51 per share. Revenue was down on last year's numbers, coming in at $10.86 billion. The pharmaceuticals giant was hurt by the strong dollar and a wave of patent expirations. Pfizer cut its full year outlook for 2015 and lowered revenue forecasts to to $46.5 billion. The company saw a 44% increase in global vaccine revenue and agreed to buy injectable drugs maker Hospira for $16 billion back in February. Pfizer stock is up around 11 percent this year. Bharat Book Presents: The Pharmaceutical Market China

00:56
For More Information Kindly Visit On: http://www.bharatbook.com/market-research-reports/healthcare-market-research-report/the-pharmaceutical-market-china.html Lowering drug prices remains a top priority for health authorities. The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) implemented two rounds of drug price reductions in 2011, one in March and the other in September. Most of the drugs reduced were manufactured by multinationals, which had previously not been subject to pricing controls. In terms of regulatory developments, the SFDA started to inspect overseas manufacturing facilities in November 2011, as the agency seeks to align its practices with international standards. In July 2011, the MoH revealed that it may introduce mandatory licensing policy to secure cheaper drugs for HIV/AIDS patients, as part of the country's universal health coverage programme. The highly fragmented drug distribution industry in China continued to see consolidation in 2011. This is part of the government's 12th Five-Year Plan 2011-2015, to strengthen the national drug distribution industry by actively supporting acquisitions, mergers and reorganisations. There were a number of competitive strategies completed in the second half of 2011: GPHG acquired Qingdao Likang Pharmaceutical Company and Shandong Hua Wei; Pfizer signed a drug distribution agreement with Jointown; Alliance Boots signed a letter of intent to acquire a stake in Nanjing Pharmaceutical; and Shanghai Pharmaceutical Group strengthened its drug distribution in Northern China through a large capital expenditure. Espicom projects that the Chinese pharmaceutical market will grow by a moderate double-digit figure between 2012 and 2017. China will be the largest pharmaceutical market in the Asia Pacific region, overtaking Japan in 2016. China will represent over a third of the Asia Pacific region's total pharmaceutical market in 2017. A number of Chinese pharmaceutical manufacturers have witnessed massive growth in recent years and have expanded their operations both domestically and abroad. The top 10 local pharmaceutical manufacturers, including China Pharmaceutical Group, Harbin Pharmaceutical Group, North China Pharmaceutical and Shanghai Pharmaceuticals, had collective revenue of around US$10.0 billion in 2010. Type 2 Diabetes Drug Market 2022

00:48
Complete report is available @ http://www.rnrmarketresearch.com/pharmapoint-type-2-diabetes-global-drug-forecast-and-market-analysis-to-2022-event-driven-update-market-report.html . This report focuses on type 2 diabetes pharmaceuticals in seven major markets (US, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK, and Japan) and three emerging markets (China, India and Brazil). These 10 markets will be referred to as the global market. The global type 2 diabetes pharmaceutical market in the 2012 base year was $28.1 billion, including both branded and generic drugs. Branded products alone accounted for $19.2 billion across the 10 markets. At 58% of the overall type 2 diabetes market, the US is clearly the dominant market, totaling $16.4 billion in branded and generic pharmaceutical sales. This is due to the much higher prices of pharmaceuticals in this country and due to the high diagnosed prevalence. The next-largest individual market is Japan, at 9% of the worldwide type 2 diabetes market, totaling $2.5 billion. The 5EU countries make up 18%, while emerging markets, including India, China and Brazil together, account for 15% of the total market. Over the forecast period, emerging markets will grow in size most rapidly, due to a dramatic increase in the prevalence and diagnosis of type 2 diabetes, which are attributed to increased life expectancy and lifestyle changes that have occurred through rapid economic growth. Uptake of branded drugs will also increase in these markets due to fast growth of the middle class. Sales in the US will grow by about 9% per year over the forecast period. The European and Japanese markets will also increase steadily; however, cost constraints in Europe and the slow regulatory process in Japan will slightly limit growth in these regions.

Sheller, P.C. in $1.4B & $2.3B Whistleblower Settlements

02:14
UPDATE: Sheller, P.C. has now been the law firm of record coordinating with the U.S. Department of Justice in reaching more than $6.4 billion in whistleblower settlements in the last seven years. For this video: 2009 has seen two historic pharmaceutical settlements: a $1.4 billion settlement involving Eli Lilly's Zyprexa in January and Pfizer's $2.3 billion settlement earlier this month. Both times, the Philadelphia-based Sheller, P.C. law firm's unique makeup has been central in aiding the U.S. government recoup record numbers of dollars for federal and state governments, taxpayers and whistleblowers. In the Pfizer matter, lawyer Stephen Sheller represented Ronald Rainero, a Pfizer employee-turned-whistleblower who experienced first-hand the pressure to promote Zyvox, a powerful antibiotic, off-label. The company promoted Zyvox as superior to similar drugs, even though the FDA sent a warning letter to Pfizer in 2005 about these very claims. Off-label promotion helped push Zyvox sales to more than $1 billion - all the while bilking the government and putting the public's health at risk. Rainero blew the whistle, working in concert with the U.S. Attorney's office in Boston and Sheller lawyers. "Our firm is uniquely qualified to handle these qui tam cases," states Sheller who himself brings four decades of civil litigation experience successfully battling automotive, tobacco, pharmaceutical and other corporate giants. "Whistleblowers know that they can trust us," says Sheller. "That's one reason we have helped recoup $3.7 Billion for the government in just nine months. From our standpoint this is the work firms should be doing. And," he added "we're not finished yet." For more information, visit www.Sheller.com.

Emerging Issues for Pharma R&D: A Practical Approach for Pediatric Drug Programs

57:41
Pediatric patients are not simply small adults. Children differ from adults in both disease pathophysiology and pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics (PK/PD). Maturation of metabolic capacity and renal function can impact drug clearance. In addition, changes in body composition can alter volumes of distribution, and changes in GI function can affect drug absorption. Yet historically, 80 percent of medicines used in children had little to no data guiding prescribers on proper use. The pharmaceutical industry has numerous reasons not to develop pediatric drugs. Often, pediatric indications are not particularly profitable, and pediatrics in the US market represents only about seven percent of drug sales. From a practical perspective, pediatric development tends to be a low priority for product development teams who are focused on gaining regulatory approval for adults. To address this market failure, regulatory legislation for drug development in pediatric patients was passed worldwide over the past decade. The number of drugs tested in and labeled for children has increased dramatically as a result. Despite this progress, pediatric drug developers still face numerous hurdles: heterogeneous patient populations, limited numbers of patients, and practical/ethical challenges with performing clinical studies in this vulnerable population. In this webinar, Dr. Barry Mangum from Paidion Research and Dr. JF Marier from Certara discussed how pediatric considerations fit into the overall drug development program. They will also made recommendations for addressing issues from both a practical and scientific perspective. Anonymized case studies were presented with a review of historical issues with a focus on solutions for today (i.e. licensed comparators differences in US and EU, importation issues, and endpoint selection).

Aswath Damodaran: "The Value of Stories in Business" | Talks at Google

01:31:29
The world of investing/finance is divided into two camps. In one, you have the number-crunchers, who believe that the only things that matter are the numbers and that imagination/creativity are dangerous distractions. In the other, you have the storytellers, who build on the stories they tell about companies and how these stories will bring untold wealth. Each side believes it has a monopoly on the truth and looks with contempt at the other. Prof. Damodaran contends that stories matter, but only if they are connected with numbers. And numbers are empty, unless they are connected with narratives. In this talk, he looks at the process by which one might build narratives, check them against reality and convert them into valuations. Uber and Ferrari examples are used to illustrate the process.
