Does video gaming ruin people's lives? | Antonius van Rooij | TEDxGhent
League of Legends, World of Warcraft and Counter Strike are only three video games among hundreds but they all have one thing in common: once you get hooked it is hard to stop playing. But when does gaming behaviour become a serious problem? Does gaming „eat“ the soul of our children? In his talk Antonius van Rooij will explain the science behind video game addiction. Antonius van Rooij successfully defended his PhD on the same topic in 2011 and is currently employed as a senior researcher at the iMinds research group Media & ICT (MICT) at Ghent University. He is active in several Dutch and Flemish public health initiatives that aim to translate scientific information about the risks and benefits of gaming to the general public through websites, online self-tests, and streamed video. 7 Benefits of Drinking Carrot Juice - Digestion - Weight Loss - Recipe
Learn More About Organifi Green Juice: http://www.fitlife.tv/ogj2?wtm_source=google&wickedid=176050551314 Drew explains some of the many benefits of carrot juice. Simple easy juice first thing in the AM. To help with. Carrot Juice Promotes Healthy Digestion When you think about good digestion, you may only think about the comfort of having a good poop, no constipation, no bloating, no gas and so on, but healthy digestion is more important than that. Healthy digestion is necessary for the proper absorption of nutrients in your food. Drinking carrot juice stimulates the secretion of digestive juices so that your body can benefit from all the macro- and micro nutrients you consume. The fiber content also feeds your good bacteria, keeping the bad bacteria in check and in balance (it is still beneficial to take some probiotics to help aid healthy digestion: check out our amazing Biotic Balance Probiotic at our new store!). Carrot Juice Can Improve Your Eyesight You heard it as a child and it’s true: carrots are good for your eyes. The reason for that is that they contain lutein and beta-carotene, which keep your retina stay in healthy condition. Keeping your eyes healthy is especially important in today’s world where we spend our days glued to various screens – smart phones, laptops, computers, tablets, TVs, movie screens, video games, etc. – under artificial lights indoors. So drink up your carrot juice! Your eyes will be sure to thank you. Carrot Juice Regulates Your Blood Sugar If you are worried about the sweetness of carrot juice, don’t be. Carrot juice actually can regulate your blood sugar. It is loaded with carotenoids, which are plant-based pigments full of antioxidant properties. They lower your blood sugar and keep it at a normal level. Carrot Juice Can Help Your Skin Carrot juice is a powerful source of vitamin A, which protects damaged skin cells and keeps your skin hydrated. Say goodbye to wrinkles and lines, say hello to youthful and glowing skin. Carrot juice is also effective for psoriasis and other skin conditions. Carrot Juice Can Give You A Healthy Glow Besides providing you with youthful skin, carrot juice can also help your complexion glow. It can help your liver to detoxify your body, which helps make your skin look bright and clear. Carrot juice also gives your complexion a slight orange hue that can make you look suntanned even in the winter time. No, you will not turn orange like Garfield, simply bright and healthy. Carrot Juice May Prevent Cancer The carotenoids in carrot juice are loaded with antioxidant properties that can keep away cancer cells. It is associated with being effective against colon, bladder, cervix and larynx cancer. The Gerson Therapy that seems to be a powerful alternative treatment for cancer also uses a plentiful amount of carrot juice in the protocol. Carrot Juice Lowers Bad Cholesterol Carrot juice is full of potassium that is known for potentially lowering your bad cholesterol. It is also full of fiber that is incredibly healthy for your cardiovascular system. Now you see how powerful carrot juice can be? It is also yummy – I dare you to try it! How To Make Carrot Juice Just grab some carrots and juice them! Seriously! It’s THAT easy! Peel 3 – 5 carrots and run them through your juicer. Then drink it slowly. What Happens To Your Body And Brain If You Don't Get Sleep
Sleep expert Matthew Walker breaks down the many effects of sleep deprivation on your brain and body. Tech Insider tells you all you need to know about tech: gadgets, how-to's, gaming, science, digital culture, and more. Subscribe to our channel and visit us at: http://www.businessinsider.com/sai TI on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/techinsider TI on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tech_insider/ TI on Twitter: https://twitter.com/techinsider -------------------------------------------------- Following is the transcript of the video: Matthew Walker: My name is Matthew Walker, I am a professor of neuroscience and psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, and I am the author of the book "Why We Sleep." We certainly know that a lack of sleep will actually prevent your brain from being able to initially make new memories, so it's almost as though without sleep the memory inbox of the brain shuts down and you can't commit new experiences to memory. So those new incoming informational emails are just bounced, and you end up feeling as though you're amnesiac. You can't essentially make and create those new memories. We also know that a lack of sleep will lead to an increased development of a toxic protein in the brain that is called beta amyloid and that is associated with Alzheimer's disease because it is during deep sleep at night when a sewage system within the brain actually kicks in to high gear and it starts to wash away this toxic protein, beta amyloid. So if you're not getting enough sleep each and every night, more of that Alzheimer's-related protein will build up. The more protein that builds up, the greater your risk of going on to develop dementia in later life. What are the effects of sleep deprivation on the body? Well, there are many different effects. Firstly, we know that sleep deprivation affects the reproductive system. We know that men who are sleeping just five to six hours a night have a level of testosterone which is that of someone ten years their senior. So a lack of sleep will age you by almost a decade in terms of that aspect of virility and wellness. We also know that a lack of sleep impacts your immune system. So after just one night of four to five hours of sleep, there is a 70% reduction in critical anticancer-fighting immune cells called natural killer cells. And that's the reason that we know that short sleep duration predicts your risk for developing numerous forms of cancer. And that list currently includes cancer of the bowel, cancer of the prostate, as well as cancer of the breast. In fact, the link between a lack of sleep and cancer is now so strong that recently the World Health Organization decided to classify any form of nighttime shift work as a probable carcinogen. So in other words, jobs that may induce cancer because of a disruption of your sleep rate rhythms. We also know that a lack of sleep impacts your cardiovascular system because it is during deep sleep at night that you receive this most wonderful form of effectively blood pressure medication. Your heart rate drops, your blood pressure goes down. If you're not getting sufficient sleep, you're not getting that reboot of the cardiovascular system, so your blood pressure rises. You have, if you're getting six hours of sleep or less, a 200% increased risk of having a fatal heart attack or stroke in your lifetime. There is a global experiment that is performed on 1.6 billion people twice a year and it's called daylight saving time. And we know that in the spring, when we lose one hour of sleep, we see a subsequent 24% increase in heart attacks the following day. Another question, perhaps, is what is the recycle rate of a human being? How long can we actually last without sleep before we start to see declines in your brain function or even impairments within your body? And the answer seems to be about 16 hours of wakefulness. Once you get past 16 hours of being awake, that's when we start to see mental deterioration and physiological deterioration in the body. We know that after you've been awake for 19 or 20 hours, your mental capacity is so impaired that you would be as deficient as someone who was legally drunk behind the wheel of a car. So if you were to ask me what is the recycle rate of a human being, it does seem to be about 16 hours and we need about eight hours of sleep to repair the damage of wakefulness. Wakefulness essentially is low-level brain damage.

Do Vitamins Really Improve Health?

Video Games Could Be Used to Promote Health, Experts Say
www.dailyrx.com/gameplay-could-be-used-help-young-patients-understand-and-manage-conditions-according-editorial Video games often get a bad rap for violence and other negative effects, so you and your kids may be happy to learn some doctors believe video games can be beneficial. I'm Miranda Savioli with your latest health news. In an editorial article from Yale University, the authors focused on how the set up of some video games may help build skills through goal-oriented, rule-based play. These authors cited a game for young cancer patients where the player goes into the body to fight cancer. Researchers saw the game improved knowledge, self-efficacy and adherence to chemotherapy among players. The authors write that video games could be used to learn healthy behaviors that can translate into real life. Just make sure to monitor the video games your child plays to make sure they're age appropriate.

Can using your cell phone give you brain cancer?
Is using a cell phone harmful to your health? In the first of a two-parter, Risk Bites looks at the chances of your cell phone giving you brain cancer (spoiler alert: not a lot). Next time -- the more worrisome risk of your phone placing you in a life or death situation. Note: The video refers to the World Health Organization review of cell phones and potential to cause cancer that was released in 2011. 30 Frames Per Second is a Cancer to Gaming
Follow t̶h̶e̶ ̶s̶c̶h̶i̶z̶o̶p̶h̶r̶e̶n̶i̶c̶ ̶s̶t̶r̶a̶w̶m̶a̶n̶ Howler on his journey of discovery and wonder, as he looks back on history, and uses his analysis to frame discussion on the future of video games...! This particular topic is about an important underlying building block for video games; their performance. We hope you enjoy...! Most of the music tracks are high-quality video game rips provided by SiIvagunner. Did you rike them? Lots of random bits of footage were pulled from around Youtube as well, and while I had a list of credits at one point, I kind of ended up losing it over the months of this project. : P if you happen to find your footage was used in this video and you're none too happy about it for whatever reason, then PM or something and I'll sort it out. (P.S. While this is meant in good joking fun, I seriously don't approve of developers making PC ports or PC games with some kind of 30 fps cap or something, in cases where it would take minimal effort to do things the "right" way. Just maybe not enough to boycott it or anything assuming the game is otherwise solid.) P.S. I'm sorry that this video might be hard to watch, (for several reasons).

Why do we have to wear sunscreen? - Kevin P. Boyd
View full lesson: http://ed.ted.com/lessons/why-do-we-have-to-wear-sunscreen-kevin-p-boyd You already know that a trip to the beach can give you a nasty sunburn, but the nitty gritty of sun safety is actually much more complex. Wrinkle-causing UVA rays and burn-inducing UVB's can pose a serious risk to your health (and good looks). So what can you do? Kevin P. Boyd makes the case to slap on some physical or chemical SPF daily. Lesson by Kevin P. Boyd, animation by Andrew Foerster.

PE Interactive Video Game - Microsoft Imagine Cup, Spring 2012
Title of Project PE Interactive (video game) The Problem Children that undergo cancer treatment show decreased physical strength and endurance. This is coupled with increased fatigue and depression, when compared to peers without cancer. Play is essential for providing a healthy escape for children as well as allowing them to adapt to changes and express their feelings. This is significantly different for children affected by cancer. There is little research currently addressing this specific problem, but two things are known. Empowerment creates a fighting spirit that helps battle the disease and physical exercise improves cardio-respiratory fitness, mood and quality of life. Solution Design and create a video game that utilizes motion controlled technology to bridge specific physical exercise with empowerment, thus helping patients connect their physical progression with psychological cues and visualize overcoming their disease. This will be achieved by both by sensory feedback and by metaphors. For example the patient will see a character on screen getting stronger and overcoming obstacle (diseases) which the patient will then internalize. The in game character will be progressively getting stronger as the patient is progressively getting stronger in real life. The game will always have a win state and the patient can never lose. However, difficulty can be increased or lowered depending on the individual case of the patient. The game will be released on commercially available hardware (console). Some of the benefits from using this hardware include: Specifically used for games and instant recognition from children, allows up to four players, controllers can gather high fidelity data and numerous metrics, easy to acquire and purchase. Persuasive Speech: Video Games are More than Entertainment
A speech I had to give in Public Speaking. It was trying to persuade my class that video games are more than just a form of entertainment and I used different game examples to showcase this like DragonBox, Wii Sports, and That Dragon, Cancer. There was a phone call someone received mid speech so excuse the interruption and fact that this had to be under seven minutes so excuse the speed and lack of depth in the information.

Ten Benefits of Baking Soda For Stomach, Heartburn, AND Cancer
Ten Benefits of Baking Soda For Stomach, Heartburn, AND Cancer https://youtu.be/xSVZe9fo3IA Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, is widely used in baking. This is because it has leavening properties, meaning it causes the dough to rise by producing carbon dioxide. Aside from cooking, baking soda has a variety of additional household uses and health benefits. Here are ten benefits and uses of baking soda. 1. Treat Heartburn. Heartburn is also known as acid reflux. It is a painful, burning sensation, that rises in the upper region of your stomach and can spread up into your throat. It is caused by acid refluxing out of the stomach, and up your esophagus, the tube that connects your stomach to your mouth. A few common causes of reflux are overeating, stress and eating greasy or spicy foods. Baking soda can help treat heartburn by neutralizing stomach acid. Dissolve a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of cold water, and drink the mixture slowly. 2. Mouthwash. Mouthwash is a great addition to a good oral hygiene routine. It reaches corners of your mouth and crevices of your teeth, gums, and tongue that may be missed during brushing. Many use baking soda as a replacement for mouthwash. It can help freshen your breath and provides antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, 3. Soothe Canker Sores. Canker sores are small, painful ulcers that can form inside your mouth. Unlike cold sores, canker sores do not form on the lips and aren’t contagious. Research has found, that baking soda mouthwash is great for soothing pain caused by canker sores, 4. Whiten Your Teeth. Baking soda is a popular home remedy for whitening teeth. Many studies have found, that toothpaste containing baking soda is better for whitening teeth, and removing plaque than toothpaste without baking soda, 5. May Improve Exercise Performance. Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, is a popular supplement among athletes. Some studies show that baking soda can help you perform at your peak for longer, especially during anaerobic exercises like high-intensity training and sprinting. During high-intensity exercise, your muscle cells start producing lactic acid, which is responsible for the burning feeling you get during exercise. Lactic acid also lowers the pH inside your cells, which may cause your muscles to tire. Baking soda has a high pH, which may help delay fatigue, allowing you to exercise at your peak for longer, 6. Relieve Itchy Skin and Sunburns. A baking soda bath is often recommended to soothe itchy skin. These baths are especially effective at soothing itches from bug bites and bee stings. Additionally, baking soda may help soothe itching from sunburns. It seems more effective when combined with other ingredients, like cornstarch and oatmeal. To make a baking soda bath, add 1–2 cups of baking soda to a lukewarm bath. Make sure the affected area is soaked thoroughly. 7. May Treat Calluses. Calluses are hard, rough patches of skin, that are caused by longtime friction or pressure. Activities that typically cause calluses are frequent walking, gardening or sports. While calluses aren’t necessarily serious, they can cause pain and discomfort when applying pressure. 8. May Improve Certain Cancer Treatments. Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide. It is often treated with chemotherapy, which works by slowing or stopping the growth of cancer cells. Normally, cancer cells grow and divide at a rapid rate. Some research shows, that baking soda could help chemotherapy medicines work more effectively. Baking soda may make the environment for tumors less acidic, which benefits chemotherapy treatments, 10. May Whiten Your Laundry. Baking soda is an inexpensive way to whiten and clean your laundry. Baking soda is an alkali — a soluble salt that can help remove dirt and stains. When dissolved in water, an alkali such, as baking soda can interact with acids from stains and help remove them. Add half a cup of baking soda to your regular amount of laundry detergent. It also helps soften the water, which means you may need less detergent than usual. THANKS FOR WATCHING MY VIDEO. SUBSCRIBE MY CHANNEL FOR MRE VIDEOS.
