Warning Signs You Are Vitamin D Deficient

03:10
Did you know that Vitamin-D isn’t actually a vitamin? It’s a steroid hormone that our bodies produce when we get enough sunshine. We can also get it from certain food sources or from supplements. Whatever it is, getting enough Vitamin-D is vital. Vitamin-D deficiency has been linked to heart disease, breast, colon and prostate-cancer, depression, weight-gain and more. While doctors can’t say for sure that a lack of Vitamin-D causes these conditions, it has been proven that people with higher levels of Vitamin-D have a lower risk of these diseases. In addition to lowering your risk of illness, Vitamin-D plays some very specific roles in the body such as: • Contributing to the formation and preservation of strong and healthy bones • Boosting the immune-system and fighting infection • Helping the muscles function • Helping circulation and heart health Certain categories of people are more at risk of developing Vitamin-D deficiency than others. If you fall into one or more of the following categories, you should get your Vitamin-D levels checked. You’re Over 50 – as we age, our skin doesn’t make as much Vitamin-D from the sun. Our kidneys also convert less Vitamin-D into the form our bodies need it in. You Have Dark Skin – because skin pigment acts as a natural sunscreen, the darker your skin, the more sun exposure you need. It’s estimated that African Americans need as much as 10-times the sun exposure of those with pale skin, to meet Vitamin D needs. You’re Overweight or Obese – Vitamin D is fat-soluble, meaning the more body fat you have, the more Vitamin-D you’ll need. You have Digestive Issues – if you suffer from digestive problems that affect your intestines ability to absorb Vitamin-D from your food, then you may be deficient.  Type of Climate – naturally, if you live in a climate with little or no sun, then your body won’t be able to make all the Vitamin-D it needs from sunshine. Still worried you might be Vitamin-D deficient? Here are some signs you should be watching out for: 1.Depression or Anxiety Low levels of Vitamin-D have been linked with depression and anxiety. The bottom line is, if you’re struggling with low moods or cognitive problems, then it can be a sign you’re lacking in Vitamin D. 2.Achy, Weak or Broken Bones When it comes to bone health, the two most important nutrients are calcium and Vitamin D. If you’re constantly getting achy bones (known as osteomalacia), fractures or breaks, then a Vitamin D deficiency might be to blame. 3.Problems Sleeping If you can’t nod off despite following a perfect night time routine, filling your bedroom with plants to help you sleep and employing a whole host of natural sleep remedies, then it might be that you’re lacking in the sunshine vitamin. Low Vitamin D levels can seriously mess up your sleeping pattern and cause sleep disorders like insomnia, sleep apnea, REM related apnea, unexplained awakenings and inappropriate body movements during sleep. 4.Frequent Infections Since Vitamin D plays a vital role in a well-functioning immune system, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that frequent infections (cause by poor immunity) signal a lack of Vitamin D. German researchers have found that Vitamin D increases your immune function by up to 5 times, while boosting your ability to fight off infections and viruses. Dr. Ronald Krauss on LDL Cholesterol, Particle Size, Heart Disease & Atherogenic Dyslipidemia

01:21:18
Dr. Ronald Krauss, M.D. is the director of atherosclerosis research at Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute, Adjunct Professor at UCSF and UC Berkeley. Dr. Krauss is really one of the pioneering scientists that changed the way we all think about cholesterol. He developed an assay that allows the quantification of low-density lipoprotein particle size and concentration (known to the wider world mostly as just "LDL cholesterol") based on a technique which determines the size of the particle based on physics...meaning the speed at which it flies through the air. This test which has not yet been fully adopted into all clinical practice in the manner that the total LDL cholesterol test has is known as the "ion mobility" test. In this episode, Rhonda and Ron discuss what HDL and LDL cholesterol are, what they do in the body, critical distinctions between the particle sizes of LDL and HDL, and how they play a role in heart disease. We talk about what small, dense LDL particles are, how they form, what effect eating saturated fat versus refined carbohydrates have on LDL particle size and heart disease risk and more generally what the main risk factors for heart disease are. Ron also talks about the good, bad and the ugly of LDL-lowering drugs known as statins, what the characteristics are of atherogenic dyslipidemia, riffs on the manner in which inflammatory cell wall components of bacteria, such as lipopolysaccharide, may interact with cholesterol to make it more harmful, and the effects of sugars on lipid production, and so much more. ▶︎ Get the show notes and transcript! https://www.foundmyfitness.com/episodes/ronald-krauss ▶︎ Join my weekly newsletter: http://www.foundmyfitness.com/?sendme=nutrigenomics ▶︎ Crowdfund more videos: http://www.patreon.com/foundmyfitness ▶︎ Subscribe on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=foundmyfitness ▶︎ Subscribe to the podcast: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/foundmyfitness/id818198322 ▶︎ Twitter: http://twitter.com/foundmyfitness ▶︎ Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/foundmyfitness ▶︎ Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/foundmyfitness

Bone Density Formula - by Wayne Garland

Osteoporosis is epidemic in our society. Everyone thinks you need Calcium, but without key minerals like Magnesium, Boron and Strontium, Vitamin D and Vitamin K, Calcium is not used by the body. Instead it collects in our arteries. Can you guess where the term, "hardening of the arteries" comes from? Vitamin D: What does Vitamin D do? RejuvMedical.com

04:22
Ahhhh....the feeling you get while spending a few days on the beach. Is it the sand in your toes...the warm water and salty breeze...or is it the chemical reaction that takes place under your skin when your Vitamin D is activated into a powerhouse biologically influential hormone called D3? It is the production of Vitamin D made in your skin with direct sun exposure. Here is a list of signs and symptoms of Vitamin D deficiency to reveal why it is so vital to your health and optimal body function. Signs of low Vitamin D levels Symptoms of low Vitamin D levels Fatigue Joint and Bone pain Muscle Spasm Weakness Uncontrolled weight gain High blood pressure Restless Sleep Poor concentration and Memory Depressed mood Headaches Bowel problem(diarrhea, constipation or both) Bladder problems(urgency, frequency or both Depression and S.A.D. Fibromyalgia Parkinson's Disease Alzheimer's Disease Arthritis Gout Tendonitis and Bursitis Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis Gum Disease and tooth loss Obesity Diabetes Heart Disease Metabolic Syndrome Autoimmune Disease(MS, SLE) Cancer (Breast, Prostate, Colon, Skin) So, why all the recent hype with this Vitamin? First of all, it is actually not a Vitamin, it is really a hormone. This means it has a direct influence on the function of almost every cell in our bodies. Its chemical structure is very similar to other hormones like testosterone or estrogen as they are produced from the same starting molecule. The scary thing is that most of us living above the 30th parallel have levels that are actually not optimized to prevent and treat disease states. You'd have to spend most of your day in a speedo laying in direct sunlight in your front yard and unfortunately your levels would still not be optimized. Studies show that the optimal level in your blood to prevent chronic disease and optimize function is around 60-70. Many of my patients see me with pain, fatigue and arthritis problems and their levels have never been checked, or they say they were told by their doctor that their results are within the "normal" range. The problem with this is that a blood level is normal if between 30 and 100. Normal is NOT OPTIMAL! If your level is 35 then you may be told you don't need any Vitamin D. By the way, my level mid-summer level was 38 last year and I spent a lot of time in a swim suite (not a speedo) at the lake. That level may be in the "normal" range, but according to the latest research it is a long way from being OPTIMAL. Keep in mind that too much of a good thing is not always better. It is very important to keep your levels in an OPTMAL range. Not too low and not too high. Once you are started on Vitamin D it is important recheck your blood levels over a few months to target the range needed for top performance. If you knew that you could do something that would decrease your weight, blood pressure and diabetes risk, decrease your risk of cancer (prostate, breast and colon), decrease pain, arthritis and risk of osteoporosis, increase your energy and mood and increase your quality of sleep, it would be silly not to take advantage of that fountain of youth. Yet only a small fraction of us take full advantage of the powers of Vitamin D. Mary, a patient of ours at Rejuv, came to see me for treatment of her arthritic and painful knees. Over the years of dealing with pain and orthopedic concerns we have discovered that we do our patients a disservice if we don't address the other important issues that contribute to the pain and arthritis we are only treating a fraction of what is ailing us. We checked a Vitamin D level on her and it was 32. It was in the "normal" range, but not optimized to deal with her decreasing bone density, arthritis and overall lack of energy and fatigue. We treated her knee arthritis with Prolotherapy and started her on the appropriate dose of Vitamin D based on her lab value. Two months later, her levels where 56 and she had a returned energy and zeal and was enjoying life again without pain or fatigue. It is important that we treat our bodies as well or better than we would our car. If your tank is running low or your joints and body don't seem to be performing optimally, get your "fluid" levels checked and optimized to restore your vitality and prolong your engines life. You can always exchange your car for a younger model, but you only have one body. Obtain an ideal body weight, eat well and be informed on the latest discoveries in the current medical literature. http://www.rejuvmedical.com/pages/vitamin-D

Study Shows Link Between Vitamin D Levels and Prostate Cancer

00:46
Researchers at Northwestern University found in a recent study, low levels of vitamin D may be a good indicator of more aggressive forms of prostate cancer. Vitamin D levels are already known to be a biomarker for bone density and making other diseases more aggressive, which researchers said makes the finding less than surprising. The researchers also said their study's results could shed light on disparities in prostate cancer rates and aggression, specifically in black men, who in some locations are as much as 150 percent more likely to have vitamin D deficiency than white men. http://www.upi.com/Health_News/2016/03/01/Low-vitamin-D-linked-to-more-aggressive-prostate-cancer/7481456862173/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

10 Medical Tests Every Women Should Undergo After 40 Years

05:40
Are you turning 40 and stepping into the next milestone of your life ? Then keep aside everything else and have these ten most important medical tests done. Yes, these tests are extremely important for women as they turn 40, as it is well said that prevention is better than cure. The pre-menopause phase of life for women is extremely crucial as they start putting on weight, undergo hormonal changes and have a lot of other health problems too. This is the age when women are prone to suffer from several diseases. Right from their physical appearance to other health issues related to the heart, bones and eyes seem to undergo a change. During the pre-menopause stage the body's oestrogen levels decrease and women tend to have an extreme change in their menstrual cycle. Sometimes it gets heavier, sometimes lighter and comes with a lot of pain. This makes one irritated. Also, the metabolism slows down during this period of transition. Women start putting on weight. So the best way to prevent health issues post menopause is to undergo certain essential medical tests. Here is a list of 10 important health tests for women that they have to undergo post 40 years. Take a look. 1. Pap Smear: This is one of the simplest tests which most of us ignore. Pap smear test is a must for women once they turn 40 as this helps to prevent any risk of cervical cancer. It is good if women start off with this test after 30. This is a must do medical test for women post 40 years that can be done once in two-three years. 2. Thyroid Functioning: One of the most common health issues faced by women today is the thyroid problem. Few have hypothyroidism and few have hyperthyroidism. Pain in the legs, hands and joints along with swelling in the legs are a few of the common symptoms of thyroid problem. 3. Mammogram: Several reports published in medical journals show that the number of women suffering from breast cancer is on the rise, especially for those above 40 years. So one of the best ways to prevent breast cancer is to take up a simple mammogram examination. 4. Bone Density: As one starts ageing, bones start degenerating. It is best to undergo a preventive bone density check-up post 40 years. This helps to prevent any kind of fracture and break in the bones. 5. Heart: It is seen that the risk of heart diseases increases with age; hence, once you turn 40, a regular check-up and screening for heart rate and related problems is necessary. This helps in preventing sudden death due to cardiac arrest. 6. Ovarian Cancer: Ovarian cancer is mostly common among women post menopause. Hence, to prevent the risk of ovarian cancer it is best to undergo a check-up before one reaches the menopause age. 7. Vitamin D: Deficiency in Vitamin D leads to bone loss and also the risk of developing osteoporosis. As women turn 40, they require more of Vitamin D to help absorb the calcium and prevent any loss of bones. Hence, it is necessary to get the level of Vitamin D tested. 8. Diabetes: Women after 40 are more prone to get diabetes, especially Type 2. The body cannot produce enough insulin to maintain the glucose level. Hence, it is essential to get tested and prevent diabetes before it strikes. 9. Blood Pressure: Women post menopause are at a risk of developing high blood pressure. So before one reaches menopause, it is better to control it. So once a woman turns 40, she needs to keep a tab on the blood pressure and go for regular check-ups. 10. Eye: As one starts ageing, the vision starts getting affected. The vision starts getting blurred and the eyes become dry. One might also develop cataracts or glaucoma. Hence, it is important to get the eyes checked once one turns 40. Video URL : https://youtu.be/r6NG35ntAp8

They don't want you to know these secrets about Vitamin D | Important facts about Vitamin D

04:19
In this video we have shown some facts about vitamin D which is sometimes called the “sunshine vitamin” because it's produced in your skin in response to sunlight, is an important nutrient that our body needs and even if we are eating healthily the daily requirements of vitamin D is not met because most foods unless they are fortified, are poor sources of vitamin D. In this video we have shown you some facts about Vitamin D which is available for free in almost all around the world. Vitamin D has multiple roles to play in the body. Not only it maintain the health of bones and teeth but also support the health of the immune system, brain, lung function and cardiovascular health and nervous system . It also regulates insulin levels and aids diabetes. It is estimated that sensible sun exposure on bare skin for 5-10 minutes 2-3 times per week allows most people to produce sufficient vitamin D, but vitamin D breaks down quite quickly, meaning that stores can run low, especially in winter. Sufficient levels of vitamin D are crucial for calcium absorption in your intestines. Without sufficient vitamin D, your body cannot absorb calcium. Applying sunscreen on the body don’t allow you to absorb vitamin D. the healing rays do not come across even if you are sitting in your car with windows closed or even in a glass room. You can only get through the direct exposure to the sunlight only. Deficiency of vitamin D can cause Rickets and Osteoporosis. Sufficient vitamin D in the body prevents many types of cancers like prostate cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, depression, colon cancer and schizophrenia etc. Proper sunlight exposure and a healthy diet rich in calcium including milk and milk products, whole grain cereals and pulses, fruits and vegetables etc can only improve your bone density and prevents you from developing many other chronic diseases. This video will not only help you understand the benefits of sunlight but will also tell you about why should you not apply sunscreens unnecessarily and why is the sunshine vitamin is really important for our immune system.

Health Spot light: Vit D3

03:31
According to Dr. Oz on his website here are the benefits of vit D3 Maintains Your Calcium Balance Maintenance of blood calcium levels within a narrow range is vital for normal functioning of the nervous system, as well as for bone growth, and maintenance of bone density. Vitamin D is essential for the efficient utilization of calcium by the body.1 Aids Your Cell Differentiation Cellular differentiation results in the specialization of cells for specific functions in your body. In general, differentiation of cells leads to a decrease in proliferation. While cellular proliferation is essential for growth and wound healing, uncontrolled proliferation of cells with certain mutations may lead to diseases like cancer. The active form of vitamin D, inhibits proliferation and stimulates the differentiation of cells.1 Boosts Your Immunity Active vitamin D is a potent immune system modulator. There is plenty of scientific evidence that vitamin D has several different effects on immune system function that may enhance your immunity and inhibit the development of autoimmunity.8 Has a Role in Insulin Secretion The active form of vitamin D plays a role in insulin secretion under conditions of increased insulin demand.9 Limited data in humans suggests that insufficient vitamin D levels may have an adverse effect on insulin secretion and glucose tolerance in type 2 diabetes.10-12 More studies are needed on the role of vitamin D and diabetes. Blood Pressure Regulation Adequate vitamin D levels may be important for decreasing the risk of high blood pressure.13-15 Again, more studies on vitamin D and hypertension are necessary. Vitamin D and Diseases According to the National Institutes of Health, vitamin D may play a role in the following diseases.

PREVENT BREAST CANCER By EATING These HEALTHY FOODS Regularly. Reduce Risk of Getting BREAST CANCER

10:36
Foods to eat and foods to avoid to fight breast cancer http://bit.ly/2h0QU5u! While there is no one single food or diet that can prevent or cause breast cancer http://bit.ly/2xi2qiS, diet is an area in which individual choices can make a real difference. Breast cancer is a complex disease with many contributing factors. Some of these factors, such as age, family history, genetics, and gender, cannot be controlled. However, there are factors that individuals can control, which include smoking, not exercising, being overweight, and their diet. Some researchers maintain that diet could be responsible for 30 to 40 percent of all cancers. Top foods to eat to fight breast cancer http://bit.ly/2itXEMW Breast cancer can start in different places, grow in different ways, and require different kinds of treatment. Just as certain cancers respond better to certain treatments, certain cancers respond well to specific foods. The following foods are considered part of a healthful diet in general, and they may help to prevent the development or progression of breast cancer: http://bit.ly/2yDisYQ a wide variety of colorful fruits and vegetables foods rich in fiber, such as whole grains, beans, and legumes low-fat milk and dairy products soybean-based products foods rich in vitamin D foods, particularly spices, with anti-inflammatory properties A study of more than 91,000 women found that following a diet comprising mainly plants could cut the risk of developing breast cancer by 15 percent. The Ida & Joseph Friend Cancer Center recommend between 8 and 10 servings of fruits and vegetables per day. Along with their other benefits, fruits and vegetables are rich in flavonoids and carotenoids http://bit.ly/2xZUx1f, which are linked to a host of medical benefits. Studies have found the following fruits and vegetables to be good for preventing breast cancer: http://bit.ly/2l7I5es dark, green, leafy vegetables peppers tomatoes eggplant citrus fruit carrots broccoli kale onions apples pears peaches strawberries Dietary fiber Although research into dietary fiber and its effect on breast cancer is currently inconclusive, several studies suggest that it can help protect against the disease. Because fiber supports the digestive system and regular elimination of waste, it helps the body to get rid of toxins and limits the damage they can do. Whole grains and legumes also contain antioxidants, which can help to prevent many diseases. Eating more fiber-rich legumes, such as lentils, has also been associated with a reduced risk of breast cancer. The Ida & Joseph Friend Cancer Center recommend 30 to 45 grams of fiber per day. Good fat Fat might seem an unlikely candidate for a list of good foods for breast cancer prevention, but polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats have been called the "good fats." They are found in olive oil, avocados, seeds, and nuts. Additionally, omega-3 fatty acids, found in cold water fish such as salmon and herring, have been linked to a reduced risk of breast cancer. Many experts recommend a diet in which around 20 to 30 percent of daily calories are from fat, with no more than 8 percent of total calories from saturated fat. Soy Extensive research over the past 25 years has identified soy as an extremely healthful food source, rich in protein, healthy fat, vitamins, and minerals, but low in carbohydrates. In addition to reducing the risk of breast cancer, soy is also reported to reduce low-density lipoprotein, or "bad cholesterol," and lower the risk of heart disease. Soy is found in foods such as: tofu tempeh edamame soy milk soy nuts Benefits of these foods Some studies have found that the health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids found in some fish might be due to its ability to reduce inflammation, a possible contributing factor for breast cancer. Researchers suggest that fiber contributes to the prevention of breast cancer by helping the body eliminate estrogen. Many breast cancer treatments are designed to keep estrogen from interacting with breast cancer cells, so eating a high-fiber diet can support this process and accelerate the elimination of estrogen. Beta-carotene, found in vegetables including carrots, has been associated with a lower risk of breast cancer. Scientists speculate that this may be because it interferes with the growth process of cancer cells. List of foods to avoid and why As scientists continue to explore the impact of different foods on the risk of breast cancer, people are generally advised to cut down on alcohol, added sugar, fat, and red meat. Alcohol Studies have identified a link between regular alcohol consumption and an increased risk of breast cancer. Breastcancer.org report that alcohol may increase estrogen levels and cause damage to DNA cells. They also note that women who drink three alcoholic beverages per week increase their risk of developing breast cancer by 15 percent. The risk goes up by around 10 percent with each additional drink per day.

No, The Sun Doesn’t Cause Skin Cancer! - How To Prevent Cancer With Sunshine

13:38
In this video, you'll learn why vitamin D from the sun is vital for your health and how it can prevent more cancer. Download this free e-book and learn how to boost your vitamin D levels to prevent cancer. https://goo.gl/DLWeFe Summary of video: Vitamin d benefits Vitamin D levels from sun exposure lower the risk of several diseases, such as cancer. Sun exposure helps build and maintain bone density and reduces fractures. Humans also need sunlight to control their biological clocks. Sunlight also makes you feel better. Sunlight consists of a mixture of electromagnetic radiation energy of various wavelengths. Ultraviolet, or UV, radiation, consists of UVA, UVB, and UVC. UVC never reach earth or human skin. UVA is able to penetrate deeper into the layers of your skin than UVB rays. UVB is the only form of UV radiation that stimulates the production of vitamin D. UVB rays hit the skin’s surface and creates Vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 is still inactive until both the liver and kidneys build 25-vitamin D.   When the sun is at its highest point in the sky, the UV levels are more intense. In the morning or afternoon, the sun’s radiation is weaker and make it harder to generate vitamin D. The sun’s radiation is most intense at the equator. Vit d deficiency There are several reasons we can become vitamin d deficient these include: Age Staying indoors Wearing too much clothes Too much clouds Polluttion Place with long winters Skin color The way to know your vitamin D level is to ask for a 25-hydroxy vitamin D test also called a 25(OH) D test. This test measures the circulating form of vitamin D that the liver generates before the kidneys activate it. The unit of measurement used for vitamin D is nanograms per milliliter. Aim to have a 25-vitamin D level of at least 30 nanograms per milliliter or even better 40-50. Sun exposure for vitamin d Our most abundant source of vitamin D is the sun. Most of us need only a few minutes a day of sun exposure during the summer months to have healthy vitamin D levels. The goal is not to get tanned. You should only get enough sun exposure to maintain healthy 25-vitamin D levels. If you live in a place where you can't get enough sunshine, then there are other ways to get vitamin D.It’s almost impossible to obtain an adequate amount of vitamin D from your diet. Therefore the only other sensible way to get vitamin D other than the sun is through supplements. There are two types of vitamin D used in fortified foods and supplements, Vitamin D3 and D2. Vitamin D2 is as effective as D3 at raising vitamin D levels. Skin cancer sun The pharmaceutical industry started our fear of the sun. Aggressive “educational” campaigns funded by the cosmeceutical industry created an anti-sunshine hysteria. They convinced everyone that no amount of unprotected sun was safe. The campaigns made people fearful of the sun, and their sales soared. Sunscreens There is little evidence that sunscreen prevents most types of skin cancer.Until recently, most sunscreens blocked only UVB radiation and not UVA rays. The sunscreens enabled people to stay unprotected against UVA rays for unlimited periods of time.  That raised the risk of melanoma in the United States and other Western cultures. When you wear sunscreens, you can't generate any vitamin D. Instead of using sunscreen wear more clothes to protect your skin. Or stay in the shade. The most common sunscreens on the market contain chemical filters. Oxybenzone in sunscreens can cause allergic skin reactions. You have a decreased risk of developing colon, prostate, and breast cancer if you maintain adequate vitamin D levels. There is no credible scientific evidence that moderate sun exposure causes melanomas. Regular, moderate amount of unprotected sun exposure is necessary for good health. People who get regular, moderate sun exposure are less likely to get melanoma than those who don’t get enough sunshine. If you avoid getting sunburned, the benefits of sun exposure will far outweigh the cons. Eggs are a very good source of inexpensive, high quality protein. More than half the protein of an egg is found in the egg white along with vitamin B2 and lower amounts of fat and cholesterol than the yolk. The whites are rich sources of selenium, vitamin D, B6, B12 and minerals such as zinc, iron and copper. Egg white is the clear liquid contained within an egg. In chickens it is formed from the layers of secretions of the anterior section of the hen's oviduct during the passage of the egg. It forms around fertilized or unfertilized egg yolks. Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid): 7% of the RDA. Selenium: 22% of the RDA. Eggs also contain small amounts of almost every vitamin and mineral required by the human body, including calcium, iron, potassium, zinc, manganese, vitamin E, folate and many more Eggs are a perfect protein source because they contain all the essential amino acids our bodies need in the right amounts. They're a natural source of key nutrients including omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins A, E and B12, antioxidants and choline. Eggs are laid by female animals of many different species, including birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, and fish, and have been eaten by humans for thousands of years. Hemoglobin or haemoglobin; abbreviated Hb or Hgb, is the iron-containing oxygen-transport metalloprotein in the red blood cells of all vertebrates as well as the tissues of some invertebrates. Liver disease can be inherited (genetic) or caused by a variety of factors that damage the liver, such as viruses and alcohol use. Obesity is also associated with liver damage. Over time, damage to the liver results in scarring (cirrhosis), which can lead to liver failure, a life-threatening condition. Protein is found throughout the body—in muscle, bone, skin, hair, and virtually every other body part or tissue. It makes up the enzymes that power many chemical reactions and the hemoglobin that carries oxygen in your blood. The human brain is the center of the central nervous system in humans as well as the primary control center for the peripheral nervous system. The brain controls "lower" or involuntary activities such as heartbeat, respiration, and digestion - these are known as autonomic An antioxidant is a molecule that inhibits the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that can produce free radicals, leading to chain reactions that may damage cells. Antioxidants such as thiols or ascorbic acid (vitamin C) terminate these chain reactions. Anatomical terminology. Eyes are organs of the visual system. They provide organisms with vision, the ability to receive and process visual detail, as well as enabling several photo response functions that are independent of vision. Eyes detect light and convert it into electro-chemical impulses in neurons. Is Milk Good for Our Bones?

03:53
The galactose in milk may explain why milk consumption is associated with significantly higher risk of hip fractures, cancer, and premature death. Subscribe to Dr. Greger’s free nutrition newsletter at https://www.nutritionfacts.org/subscribe and get a free recipe from his new HOW NOT TO DIE COOKBOOK. (All proceeds Dr. Greger receives from the sales of his books, DVDs, and speaking engagements go to support the 501c3 nonprofit that runs NutritionFacts.org.) What can we do for our bones, then? Weight-bearing exercise such as jumping, weight-lifting, and walking with a weighted vest or backpack may help, along with getting enough calcium (Alkaline Diets, Animal Protein, & Calcium Loss http://nutritionfacts.org/video/alkaline-diets-animal-protein-and-calcium-loss/) and vitamin D (Resolving the Vitamin D-Bate http://nutritionfacts.org/video/resolving-the-vitamin-d-bate/). Eating beans (Phytates for the Prevention of Osteoporosis http://nutritionfacts.org/video/phytates-for-the-prevention-of-osteoporosis/) and avoiding phosphate additives (Phosphate Additives in Meat Purge and Cola http://nutritionfacts.org/video/phosphate-additives-in-meat-purge-and-cola/) may also help. Maybe the galactose angle can help explain the findings on prostate cancer (Prostate Cancer and Organic Milk vs. Almond Milk http://nutritionfacts.org/video/prostate-cancer-and-organic-milk-vs-almond-milk/) and Parkinson’s disease (Preventing Parkinson’s Disease With Diet http://nutritionfacts.org/video/preventing-parkinsons-disease-with-diet/). Galactose is a milk sugar. There’s also concern about milk proteins (see my casomorphin http://nutritionfacts.org/topics/casomorphin/ series) and fats (The Saturated Fat Studies: Buttering Up the Public http://nutritionfacts.org/video/the-saturated-fat-studies-buttering-up-the-public/ and Trans Fat in Meat and Dairy http://nutritionfacts.org/video/trans-fat-in-meat-and-dairy/) as well as the hormones (Dairy Estrogen and Male Fertility http://nutritionfacts.org/video/dairy-estrogen-and-male-infertility, Estrogen in Meat, Dairy, and Eggs http://nutritionfacts.org/video/Estrogen-in-Meat-Dairy-and-Eggs/ and Why Do Vegan Women Have 5x Fewer Twins? http://nutritionfacts.org/video/Why-Do-Vegan-Women-Have-5x-Fewer-Twins?). Do Traditional Vitamin D Pills Work?

09:51
http://www.buybiod.com Announcer: Coming up on this edition of Your Health Matters possibly the most amazing medical discovery of this century, a miracle ingredient, now known to be critical to almost every aspect of your health as you age. It's been shown to help ensure a healthy immune system and strong bones, maintain optimal brain, heart, breast, prostate and even colon health. In fact, maintaining an adequate daily level of this powerful natural nutrient is essential to life. You don't want to miss this important program. Now, let's join the host of Your Health Matters, Dr. Lisa Pavoni, a dual board certified physician and expert in preventative medicine in healing. Dr. Pavoni is a researcher, lecturer and family medicine doctor at one of the world's most respected hospitals. She has appeared on over 100 TV programs including Good Morning America, Martha Stewart and as a repeat guest on Oprah. Her mission is to provide you with the latest science, news and information for optimal health and vitality because your health matters. Dr. Pavoni: Welcome to our show. Today we're talking about vitamin D deficiency, now considered to be of epidemic proportions in the U.S. with vast consequences. In fact, researchers have indicated being low in vitamin D may put you at risk for everything from bone disorders to a weak immune system, joint and muscle pain, low energy and moodiness, sleep disorders, low blood sugar and weight gain and possibly more serious colon, breast, prostate or heart health issues. As a medical doctor, I know the importance of vitamin D. Many physicians now prescribe heavy doses of traditional vitamin D pills to their patients, yet the problem of vitamin D deficiency still persists. To help explain this paradox, I'd like to welcome Kris Kile, a nutritional science researcher and author of Vitamin D Deficiency -- A Growing Epidemic, an expert in vitamin D and the human body. Welcome, Kris. Kris Kile: Thank you for having me on the show. Dr. Pavoni: So tell us more about your background, Kris. How did you first become interested in vitamin D and the human body? Kris Kile: My understanding of vitamin D in the human body really began with my personal journey to improve my own health. Ten years ago my mother died. She seemed in excellent health one day and then before you know it she was diagnosed with an illness and we quickly lost her. It felt so needless, so preventable and it really scared me. Dr. Pavoni: You know that's terrible, Kris. What happened next? Kris Kile: Well, I started to research colon health, which is why my mother passed. And that medical research led to not just information about colon health, but also hearth health, brain health, breast health, prostate health. And they all pointed to doing one thing for optimal health and that was getting enough vitamin D daily. Dr. Pavoni: Okay, so what conclusions have you come to? Kris Kile: The bottom line is I absolutely believe that the number one health issue facing America today is vitamin D deficiency. It's not just me saying that. A lot of medical researchers are saying it as well. Dr. Pavoni: And I see more and more about vitamin D in medical journals every day. Kris Kile: Well, now there are thousands, thousands of studies showing the importance of vitamin D in almost all aspects of our health. Yet even with D sales in the U.S. doubling from 2008 -- 2009, it's still estimated that 90 percent of Americans are still vitamin D deficient. Dr. Pavoni: So in simple terms, Kris, please explain for our audience why getting enough vitamin D is so important. Kris Kile: In 2009, medical researchers found that after studying 28,000 adults -- that is a big study -- those with vitamin D deficiency were almost twice as likely to die. Dr. Pavoni: Maybe one of the reasons so many doctors are now beginning to regularly test all their patients for vitamin D deficiency. Kris Kile: Yes, low vitamin D truly is of epidemic proportions in the U.S. Dr. Pavoni: Well, we now know that adequate D levels are absolutely essential for key measures of health including immune health maintaining blood sugar and proper brain function, bone density, joint heart, colon, breast and prostate health, fighting inflammation and for overall general health and well being...

Higher Vitamin D Can Improve Premature Babies' Health

new research suggests that Higher doses of vitamin D can improve the bone health of premature babies. Premature and preterm infants are already routinely given vitamin D to help prevent weak bones and other conditions. But with varying Dosages, many infants still develop bone-related health problems. researching if there is an optimal dose for protecting bone health, scientists at the University of Nebraska Medical Center looked at changes in vitamin D in the blood of 32 premature babies over the course of four weeks. 8 Secrets to Boost Testosterone for Men and Women

30:41
For more information on testosterone boosters: https://draxe.com/natural-testosterone-boosters/ In this episode of Ancient Medicine Today, Jordan Rubin and I are talking about secrets — herbs, supplements, essential oils, etc. — to help boost testosterone in both men and women. You’re probably most familiar with testosterone as being the sex hormone responsible for defining “manhood.” And, yes, it does. However, proper levels of this key hormone are also necessary to stimulate sexual desire, increase libido, heighten arousal and ensure sexual satisfaction for both men and women. It’s also necessary to maintaining the following: A healthy pain response Sufficient levels of red blood cells Regular sleep patterns Optimal bone density Muscle mass And high energy levels As men and women age, their T-levels naturally decline but this can accelerate faster than normal by the typical American lifestyle: Chronic stress Insufficient nutrition Imbalanced microflora Low vitamin D levels Weight gain Inadequate exercise Prescription drugs (especially statins) All of these risk factors deplete the normal immune response, lead to obesity and diabetes, tax the body and decrease metabolism. This, my friends, is the recipe for low T-levels and most people are stuck on the gerbil wheel desperate for a ticket to get off of the ride. *This content is strictly the opinion of Dr. Josh Axe, and is for informational and educational purposes only. Vitamin D Pills: Is More Better?

04:12
http://www.vitamindcouponcodes.com Vitamin D Pills: Is More Better? Vitamin D is a vitamin that is responsible for enhancing our body's ability to intestinally absorb calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphate and zinc found in our diets.Vitamin D was originally discovered in an effort to find the dietary substance lacking in certain diseases. In 1922, when it was first discovered, and the first few decades that followed it, vitamin D was associated with healthier bones and only bones. Vitamin D deficiency led to rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults, but it was originally found to have little indication that it played any active part in other diseases. Recent studies done over the past decades, however, have offered us new insight as to what vitamin D can do to give us a sound body. Now it is known that vitamin D plays a role in conditions including cancer, heart disease and autoimmune diseases, all systems that have the vitamin D receptor. Because of these discoveries, and evidence that higher daily intake may be beneficial to improve bone mineral density and bolster the immune system, some experts are calling for substantial increases in the recommended daily intake of the vitamin. Correlative data have since been quite convincing as to the effects of vitamin D when it comes to preventing certain types of cancer. One such study was a meta-analysis done in 2008, which was published in the Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, showed a trend towards lesser incidence of breast cancer among women with a daily intake of vitamin D of at least 400 IU. Studies have also shown that the potential for reducing the risk of other specific malignancies may be substantial as well. It has been estimated that if you increase your vitamin D intake by at least an additional 1,000 units of vitamin D per day, you can reduce your risk of developing colon cancer by as much as 50%. Another relatively new realm of vitamin D research is its role in autoimmune diseases. A landmark birth-cohort study of type 1 diabetes looked at mothers in a region of northern Finland who gave birth in 1966 and followed the children through 1997. Of 10,366 children studied, 81 were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Regular vitamin D supplementation with 2,000 IU daily during infancy was found to substantially decrease the risk of developing diabetes (RR=0.22 [95% CI, 0.05-0.89]) compared with children who had lower intake of vitamin D. Furthermore, children who were suspected of having rickets in their first year of life were three times as likely to develop diabetes compared to those with no suspicion of rickets. As it turns out, more units of vitamin D is certainly better. Some researchers have suggested daily vitamin D intake to go as much as 3000 to 5000 IU, and the number is rising with each new research study extolling the many virtues of vitamin D. The nutritional supplement market can certainly offer such products that can provide this amount of vitamin D, like our PLATINUM Series Vitamin D3, which offers 5000 IU with each pill. Vitamin D: The Sunshine Vitamin

Try Passion 4 Life at http://www.P4LNutrition.com or call: 888-954-7231 (30 day money back guarantee!) Hi, today I would like to talk to you about Vitamin D. My name is Charles Van Kessler. I’m a nutritional researcher. Vitamin D deficiency is a major problem in the United States. But many Americans are not aware that they may be lacking this important nutrient. Although word is beginning to leak out, even among the traditional medical community testing for Vitamin D, it will not skyrocket like cholesterol because there is no expensive drug to push. It is essential to understand that in order to know how much Vitamin D you should be taking you should get your blood level checked. Unfortunately very few doctors do blood test for Vitamin D. You can’t rely on the media to expose the issue. If and when they do it will be too late for most of you and you might have suffered decreased bone density in an increased risk of many other different diseases including certain cancers. There are two kinds of Vitamin D that the body can use; one is the anti-aging miracle, that makes waves in medical journals around the world, the other is a cheap ineffective and was deemed nearly worthless buddy the esteemed journal of clinical endocrinology and metabolism. Vitamin D is often crammed into hard to swallow pills and tablets because they are dirt cheap to produce. Vitamin D3 however is as premium as it gets. In fact scientists at the Creighton University of South Carolina prove with a controllable double-blind study that revealed that Vitamin D3 is 300% more effective than D2. It’s the Vitamin D3 that is much more powerful and that’s the kind that’s being used in these head turning studies. Vitamin D3 can help you protect your body from the ravages of aging. The journal of clinical investigation reports that Vitamin D3 may play a pivotal role in helping to keep your blood pressure healthy. The archives of internal medicine revealed the strong connection between D3 in cardiovascular health. When you buy vitamin please always buy natural, all food based liquid vitamin and minerals and make sure that always has a minimum offered 1000 units of D3. Vitamin D3 can make your life worth living. It’s probably the most important ingredient for health and well-being. Vitamin D sufficiency along with proper diet and exercise is known as one of the most important factors in disease prevention and human health. Some of the associated Vitamin D deficiency symptoms are bone pain and muscle pain, allergies, Alzheimer's, cancer of the breast, colon prostate, severe depression, hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, Parkinsons, learning and behavior disorders and others. So how important is it to find a good liquid product with adequate Vitamin D3. Try Passion 4 Life at httpw://ww.P4LNutrition.com or call: 888-954-7231 (30 day money back guarantee!)

What You Should Know about Breast Cancer Prevention

04:40
Gaynor explains how to prevent breast cancer and the major warning signs of breast cancer. Mitchell Gaynor: I think the first thing people should know about breast cancer prevention is that it's never too late and people ask me all the time, they'll say "Dr. Gaynor, isn't it too late for me, I've smoked two packs a day for the last 30 years" or they'll say "Dr. Gaynor, isn't it too late for me, everybody in my family had breast cancer or lung cancer" or "Dr. Gaynor, isn't it too late for me, I've been 50 pounds overweight for most of my adult life and I've had all the bad habits, consumed all the processed food, too much sugar, isn't it too late?" The answer is very clearly, even if you've had breast cancer, it's never too late, the reason that it's never too late is because you still have an immune system, you still have a detoxification system and you can do a lot of thing to support both of those body systems. So a lot of what integrated oncology really looks at, how do you support your detoxification system, what is the detoxification system. That's the part of your body, that's the enzymes found in most abundantly in your liver, but in almost every organ system, your lung, your gut, your intestine all have detoxifying enzymes that break down a lot of the cancer causing chemicals that are ubiquitous in our environment that we're all exposed to and there was a fascinating study done by Kathy Helzlsouer at Johns Hopkins University that was published also in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute and she examined women with and without breast cancer. What she found was interesting, she looked for one of the most common detoxifying enzymes called GSD or glutathione S-transferase. What the study found was is that women with the lowest levels of GST were four times as likely to develop breast cancer as women with the higher levels. Now one of the important things from this and many other studies and we can measure detoxifying enzyme levels and there's a lot of genetic variability into how people detoxify. So for instance people who detoxify in their lung, cigarette smoke more slowly they've been found in some studies to have an elevated risk of lung cancer. There are a number of nutrients that have been found to increase detoxifying enzyme levels and it's amazing to me because a lot of people think when you talk about gene therapy that that's something that's a hundred years away and maybe it's some distance promise. The fact of the matter is every person is doing gene therapy, every time he or she eats okay. So all the nutrients you're putting in your body for better or for worse are doing things at the level of your DNA. So to get back to the detoxification story, vitamins A, vitamin C and Vitamin E, the three most common antioxidant vitamins, they do a lot of things besides protecting your body against free radicals. For instance there's an area of the DNA called the ARE or antioxidant responsive element, the antioxidant vitamins bind to the ARE and this area is very close the area that codes for all the detoxifying enzymes in your body. So they bind to it and up regulate or increase the production of these detoxifying enzymes. That's critically important, but those antioxidant vitamins that maybe one of their most important roles but there are a lot of other nutrients that increase detoxifying enzymes and people need to know about these. This is the kind of wisdom that can help people, the nutrients in garlic helps increase detoxification. There's a nutrient in broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, the cruciferous vegetables called sulforaphane, that's one of the most powerful inducers of detoxifying enzymes. There's a nutrient in turmeric which increases-- turmeric is what gives curry it's yellow color, induces detoxifying enzymes and by the same token, there's a lot of beneficial things people can do for their immune systems. Mango Fruit With Many Health Benefits

04:07
Mango Fruit With Many Health Benefits Mangos taste so good that people forget they are also healthy! Discover how the “king of fruits” can help you, plus why monkeys eat mango seeds and a few mango cautions and concerns. Health Benefits 1. Prevents Cancer: Research has shown antioxidant compounds in mango fruit have been found to protect against colon, breast, leukemia and prostate cancers. These compounds include quercetin, isoquercitrin, astragalin, fisetin, gallic acid and methylgallat, as well as the abundant enzymes. 2. Lowers Cholesterol: The high levels of fiber, pectin and vitamin C help to lower serum cholesterol levels, specifically Low-Density Lipoprotein (the bad stuff). 3. Clears the Skin: Can be used both internally and externally for the skin. Mangos help clear clogged pores and eliminate pimples. 4. Improves Eye Health: One cup of sliced mangoes supplies 25 percent of the needed daily value of vitamin A, which promotes good eyesight and prevents night blindness and dry eyes. 5. Alkalizes the Whole Body: The tartaric acid, malic acid, and a trace of citric acid found in the fruit help to maintain the alkali reserve of the body. 6. May Help with Diabetes: Mango leaves help normalize insulin levels in the blood. The traditional home remedy involves boiling leaves in water, soaking through the night and then consuming the filtered decoction in the morning. Mango fruit also has a relatively low glycemic index (41-60) so moderate quantities will not spike your sugar levels. 7. Promotes Healthy Sex: Mangos are a great source of vitamin E. Even though the popular connection between sex drive and vitamin E was originally created by a mistaken generalization on rat studies, further research has shown balanced proper amounts (from whole foods) does help. 8. Improves Digestion: Papayas are not the only fruit that contain enzymes for breaking down protein. There are several fruits, including mangoes, which have this healthful quality. The fiber in mangos also helps digestion and elimination. 9. Helps Fight Heat Stroke: Juicing the fruit from green mango and mixing with water and a sweetener helps to cool down the body and prevent harm from overheating. The kidneys then become overloaded with the toxins from this process. 10. "Hello, I'm Dr. Erik Hensel with Active Edge Chiropractic and Functional Medicine. This week;s tip is about optimizing your Vitamin D levels. This time of year, which is now mid-winter here in Columbus, Ohio, we can't synthesize Vitamin D through our skin in the sunlight. It's very important that we get this vital nutrient through supplementation and diet this time of year. What that means is we need to supplement about 4,000 IUs of Vitamin D every day, which is what your body goes through on a daily basis. Vitamin D is very important for immune system health, bone growth, and also very important for pregnant women, too, as they do not pass the supplement along through their breast milk. It's very important to get this in your prenatal vitamin. That is your health tip for the week." http://columbuschiropractors.com

Published in The Lancet, the study concluded that, with almost half of adults over the age of 50 using vitamin D supplements, continuing widespread use of these supplements in healthy adults is needless.
