It has also been shown to increase focus, improve sleep, reduce stress and anxiety, and make you more empathetic of others. You only need 5 – 10 minutes for these effects, And it can be done anywhere… #4. Eat lots of protein and fibrous carbs at the same time Protein has been shown to greatly reduce cravings and help people naturally decrease their calories by up to 441 per day. Drink apple cider vinegar throughout your day Vinegar increases the fullness you feel from your meals and causes people to eat 200-275 fewer calories throughout their day. We're at the height of summer and therefore, swimsuit season and I know you are all eager to look your best while on the beach~ But in order to lose any weight, the first thing you need to do is stabilize your blood sugar! Earlier in the year, I posted two videos on this subject. The first one was about lifestyle factors that you need to modify for optimal glucose control and the second was about foods to eat that will help you with your goal. If you've not watched them, go back and do that first before considering supplementation, as modifying those things may be sufficient to help you get to your goal. If you're already eating well and have changed your habits yet you still feel that you're hungry, tired, irritable and generally struggling with an unstable blood sugar, then you may want to consider using supplements to help move you along. In today's video, I discuss the top 7 supplements for balancing blood sugar which in turn will help control your appetite and cravings and help you lose weight. So there are two questions here: WHY was I so addicted to sugar, despite my natural genetic tendency to crave the opposite type of foods (salty and fatty)? HOW did I finally “kill” the addiction and stop all my sugar cravings? Why I Craved Sugar When your body is under stress - either emotional and/or physical - various “stress” hormones and chemicals become imbalanced. This includes cortisol, adrenal hormones, serotonin and dopamine to name a few. Two things that help rebalance these chemicals and that’s caffeine and sugar. What’s interesting is that these two substances temporarily improve this problem … but hours later cause an even bigger crash and imbalance, which continually fuels the addiction and cravings. And your body craves and prefers sugar, more than caffeine (coffee, tea, “energy” drinks, etc.) because it increases insulin levels -- which is the OPPOSITE of what you want. Anyway, so my point here was that my STRESS was causing me to craving sugar, to help rebalance everything. The second problem is that all of this sugar caused an increase in Candida yeast in my body. This growth is primarily found in your gut - it’s different than when women get a “yeast infection”. What’s interesting is that the Candida yeast feeds off sugar. So what happens is that you eat sugar and high carb foods (sugar, breads, dairy, fruit, etc.) The Candida in your gut eats all the sugar Hours later YOU are craving more sugar again, to continue to feed the Candida It’s a never ending cycle. The Solution So what you first need to do is KILL the Candida yeast in your gut. You need to eliminate all foods that have yeast. This means breads, beer, peanuts, aged cheeses, etc. This reduces any more yeast from coming into your body. Then you need to reduce and eliminate eating sugar to STOP FEEDING the existing yeast - this includes packaged foods, high carbohydrates, dairy, fruit, etc. … anything with sugar. Finally, you need to add in GOOD bacteria into your gut and you can do this by taking probiotic, acidophilus pills. Yes, I know … there are lots of limitations here on what you can or can’t eat. However, the end result is that your skin will improve, you’ll have more energy and crave less sugar. Unfortunately, the main “challenge” here is that it takes time to see results, so you must be patient. For me, it took many months. However, if you want to speed up the results, still enjoy some of your favorite “sugar” foods occasionally and still kill your sugar cravings - then you can take some specific herbs and minerals that are proven to work by optimizing your blood sugar levels, improving insulin sensitivity and ending almost all sugar cravings. This includes supplements such as Chromium, vanadyl sulfate, alpha lipoic acid, cinnamon extract, berberine, selenium and few others. Then you’re hungry again and you crave more sugar. Cortisol The more stress you have in your life, the higher the production of the stress hormone, cortisol. When cortisol is high, the body naturally craves sugar, since the release of insulin helps lower cortisol in the body. This is why when stress levels are high, most people crave high glycemic refined carbohydrates for an instant rush of sugar. How to balance insulin and cortisol hormones to reduce food cravings: #1. Focus on eating the right types of food: Follow a diet higher in fat, protein, and fiber, and lower in high glycemic, refined carbohydrates. The combination equals higher levels of feeling full and keeps your blood sugar balanced, thus reducing cravings between meals. #2. Timing of food: Consuming a high protein meal as your first meal of the day, is key to reducing food cravings and keeping you feeling full throughout the day. #3. Workout Working out can improve insulin sensitivity and helps manage the stress in your life. #4. Meditation Living a high stressed life means cortisol levels will remain elevated, causing more sugar cravings. If you’re new to meditation, start with 5 minutes. #5. Sleep A bad night’s sleep means cravings are definitely increased the next day. #6. Hunger craving hacks Even if you follow all these tips to reduce hunger, sometimes the cravings still show up on occasion. Hunger craving hack #1: If you’re having a craving earlier in the day, have a coconut oil coffee or a coconut oil black or green tea. The combination of the caffeine and the healthy fat in the coconut oil will help stop the cravings. Just don’t go overboard with this as too much caffeine will have a negative effect on sleep and cortisol. If your craving is later at night, try a soothing hot herbal tea with a spoonful of almond butter. Hunger craving hack #2: I’ve been doing some research on the amino acid glutamine, and it’s effect of providing energy for the brain. This may reduce the cravings and addiction to sweets. So first off, let's take a look at… What is insulin? Insulin is a hormone that's produced by the pancreas, that helps turn sugars from carbohydrates to energy. What's even better, is that greater insulin sensitivity is going to lead to higher T levels in men. Now what are some signs that a person might have poor insulin sensitivity? Higher insulin levels can cause weight gain, higher insulin levels can cause aging, higher insulin levels can cause reduced T, higher insulin levels increases cravings for junk foods, and also leads to blood pressure issues. With all of this in mind, for anyone who feels as though they're one of those people who is constantly riding the blood sugar roller coaster, with blood sugar all over the place, depending on what you eat, when you eat, and you get hangry and get crazy when they don't have food, For everyone who needs help with blood sugar control and needs to increase their insulin sensitivity naturally, and for the good people out there who don't want to go take drugs to achieve this, I've got 3 natural compounds to use today to simply, and quickly increase insulin sensitivity naturally and get control over those cravings once again. Sugar cravings - http://www.livebrightandhealthy.com - Frequent sugar cravings can be more intense than regular hunger. It is the bodies over-riding need for high carb, sweet foods. This craving can become all consuming till you give in and eat that doughnut. Sugar cravings have been researched extensively. When we eat refined carbohydrates like bread, cakes or biscuits, the carbohydrates in the food are broken down very quickly, leading to a flood of sugar into the blood. This is quickly absorbed into the body leaving you feeling hungry again and craving sugar. This brings on sugar addiction and adds to weight loss woes. Expand on this (pun unintended!) and think global and you have a rise in obesity world wide. Sugar addiction is like drug addiction. It influences the same chemicals in the brain, serotonin and dopamine. So if sugar addiction is like drug addiction, then the symptoms of sugar withdrawal are like drug withdrawal symptoms too. There is the moodiness, jittery behavior, anxiety and shakiness of drug withdrawal symptoms. So if you want to give sugar detox a try, best to ease into it, by cutting back slowly on desserts, sugar and high carb foods. By replacing high carb foods with low carb, low glycemic index foods, your body will be weaned of its sugar dependency slowly. Emotional eating is another problem linked to sugar cravings. Emotional upsets and other stressful situations create a need to reward ourselves with an indulgent treat "just to make us feel better". Here are a couple of ideas in managing this. One would be to exercise. Exercise controls sugar cravings and reduces stress. Try yoga or going for long walks. But if you must have a sweet treat, then try to go for something with a low glycemic index. Make up a dessert which uses low carb, low glycemic ingredients like coconut flour and coconut sugar. Try coconut oil, as it is an energy booster that will crank up your metabolism as well. Refined carbohydrates which cause sugar cravings have a high glycemic index. So avoid those. Eat foods like sweet potatoes, coconut sugar and stevia which are just a few examples of low GI foods that are naturally sweet and won't cause a sugar craving or spikes in blood sugar levels. Combined with gluten-free low carb flours like coconut flour and almond meal, we can create delicious desserts which will satisfy our sweet tooth without creating a craving for sugar. An ounce of dark chocolate a day is another great treat to suppress carb cravings. Last but not least - make love! Skip dessert and get it on with your main squeeze.
