The waterless toilet that turns human waste into energy | Virginia Gardiner | TEDxBrixton
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Virginia Gardiner asks us to rethink the toilet.‘There is no such thing as sinkers and floaters’, she says talking us through her amazing innovation in sanitation. The benefits to those living in developing regions, without proper sanitation, are obvious. The benefits to those in the West seemed less so, but Virginia assures us that we'll be seeing Loowatt in music festival fields very soon. Virginia has worked in design, engineering, management, entrepreneurship, fundraising and journalism. After studying literature and engineering at Stanford  University, and covering design for publications including The New York Times and Metropolis, she began to value the social importance of products and systems we live with, and to recognize certain everyday realities, such as the flush toilet, as wasteful. She founded Loowatt Ltd. in 2009 after developing the toilet and system concept during her masters’ degree at the Royal College of Art in 2008. Obama's anti-energy policy killing jobs
Obama promised to make electricity rates "skyrocket" in 2008. He has kept that promise. The result is the destruction of an entire industry that provides thousands of jobs and cheap electricity. This is just one of many job killing policies of Obama's jobs focus. Obama seems to be doing everything in his power to increase the price of gasoline, oil and all forms of energy in America. Can we afford four more years of economic suicide? Before his election Obama promised his plan would make electricity rates 'skyrocket'. Since he took office the price of oil has skyrocketed 117% and gasoline has increased 67%. While talking big on energy independence Obama's real energy agenda is pushed by his tyrannical EPA. It is economic suicide to use a disproved theory of global warming as an excuse to minimize energy production of our own US resources. The EPA is waging a war on oil. West Virginia has had to sue the EPA over coal killing regulations. In speaking of the lawsuit Gov. Manchin said "Over the past year and a half, we have been fighting President Obama's administration's attempts to destroy our coal industry and way of life in West Virginia". He went on to say that the EPA has "usurped the authority of the state and the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection to oversee and regulate important aspects of our environment, like water quality," and "These actions by U.S. EPA are threatening not only to end surface coal mining in West Virginia but to affect all forms of mining in the state." A report put out by by the minority on the US Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works entitled EPA'S ANTI-INDUSTRIAL POLICY: "THREATENING JOBS AND AMERICA'S MANUFACTURING BASE" stated that: "The evidence is clear: these rules threaten the economic viability of America's manufacturing base and hundreds of thousands of well-paying jobs. Moreover, these rules will bring little, if any, public health or environmental benefits. As Americans suffer through a jobless recovery, EPA is pursuing policies that exacerbate our economic problems and do not improve the environment." Further on it points out that by the EPA's own estimate these rules will have an environmental effect so minuscule as to be immeasurable. 'One might expect that these costs would at least be offset with meaningful environmental benefits. Yet EPA's own analysis shows that's not the case. In estimating the impacts on global temperatures of the agency's mobile source rule, EPA concluded: "Based on the reanalysis the results for projected atmospheric CO2 concentrations are estimated to be reduced by an average of 2.9 ppm (previously 3.0 ppm), global mean temperature is estimated to be reduced by 0.006 to 0.0015 °C by 2100."' [emphasis added] And yet these rules and regulations would kill tens of thousands of jobs in construction, steel plants, coal industry, oil production, gasoline refineries. It would cause the loss of coal plants, cement plants, and has already cost tens of thousands of jobs in the oil industry on the gulf coast. An ally of the EPA action, The Sierra Club, brags that it has stopped 100 new coal plants since 2001. "Stopping one hundred coal plants is a huge milestone in our fight to end global warming, but the coal industry is still pushing forward with plans for dozens of new plants in places, like Michigan and Kansas, and pouring money into slick advertising campaigns and lobbying efforts," said Nilles. "As we celebrate this amazing milestone, we must redouble our efforts to stop new plants and replace the existing coal plants with clean energy." ~ Sierra Club press release. The Sierra Club is a powerful Washington lobbyist spending $1,580,000 on lobbying in the last three years according to OpenSecrets. Environmental groups as an industry have spent $14,746,646 on lobbying in 2010, $22,458,950 in 2009 and $17,953,057 in 2008 for a total in the last three years of over $55 MILLION!

Trump Administration Admits 1,400+ More People Will Die Each Year Following Coal Plant Deregulation
https://democracynow.org - President Trump rallied supporters Tuesday night in West Virginia to announce a massive rollback of Obama-era environmental regulations on coal-fired power plants and carbon dioxide emissions that contribute to climate change. Trump’s “Affordable Clean Energy” proposal would allow individual states to decide whether to curb emissions. The Environmental Protection Agency’s own data shows the plan could cause up to 1,400 more premature deaths a year by 2030. The Washington Post reports the deregulation would also lead to the release of at least 12 times more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere over the next decade. The current head of the EPA, Andrew Wheeler, is a former coal industry lobbyist. We speak with Mary Anne Hitt, director of the Sierra Club Beyond Coal Campaign. Coal River Wind
Coal River Mountain is one of the last mountains left intact in the beautiful Coal River Valley of West Virginia. However, Massey Energy has plans to mine 6,000+ acres of the mountain - or almost 10 square miles. Fortunately, there is an alternative to mountaintop removal mining on Coal River Mountain wind power. This is a unique opportunity to move our nation and the state of West Virginia toward the production of clean energy, and to preserve our nations mountains for generations to come.

Trump in WV Today Promoting End of Clean Power Plan
President Trump will be in West Virginia today to promote a rollback of former President Obama's Clean Power Plan. The president wants to give states broad authority to determine how to restrict carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions from coal-fired power plants. The plan would also let states relax pollution rules for power plants that need upgrades. The president has already vowed to pull the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Agreement and is pushing to revive the coal industry.

Rick Perry Fails Basic Economic Point To Pander To Coal Workers - The Ring of Fire
During a speech Thursday to coal workers in West Virginia, Secretary of Energy Rick Perry attempted to explain away the decline in coal sales across the globe.  According to Perry, the problem isn’t that people don’t want coal, it’s that coal workers aren’t giving them enough coal.  Perry told the crowd that demand follows supply, which proves that he has no idea how economics works. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins discusses this.    Link – http://www.rawstory.com/2017/07/must-have-taken-econ-at-trump-u-internet-roasts-rick-perrys-latest-economically-illiterate-statement/ Rick Perry, the current Secretary of Energy and the former Governor of Texas and former twice failed Republican party presidential candidate, he gave a speech earlier this week to a bunch of coal miners at a coal plant in West Virginia where he gave them a bit of an economics lesson. In fact, Perry himself called it an, "Economics lesson." Perry said, "Supply and demand, you create the supply and then the demand will follow." Now, I don't know how many people watching this are economics experts, economics professors, or just people who understand what economics is, but for anybody who understands even the slightest little bit of economics you know damn well that it doesn't go supply first then demand. It's demand and supply. Rick Perry thinks, again, Secretary of Energy for the United States, thinks that if coal companies, coal workers, coal miners, coal plants, if you just produce even more coal people are going to want it. In reality, and I don't think Rick Perry understands this because he's never been known as a beacon of intellectualism, coal demand across the planet is dropping. That's why coal companies for the last few years have been filing bankruptcy left and right. Nobody wants their product anymore. People are moving on to cheaper forms of energy, cleaner forms of energy. Basically, any other kind of energy that's not coal. Supply was never the problem. Demand was, Rick. You have to understand that. You can't go tell a bunch of coal workers who are already afraid of losing their job in a dying industry that if you just work a little harder your industry's going to be just fine. You're lying to them and you're selling them bogus economic points that are not true. What you should've said was, "That as Secretary of Energy here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to come up with a plan that's going to save your job. Not your job in the coal company, but the fact that you have a job. We're going to reinvest in renewable energy infrastructure and I'm going to get each and every one of you trained to go work in that new industry. You're still going to have a job, you're just going to be doing something different and we're going to make sure we get you the training you need to do this new job, get America on a different form of energy, everybody wins." Except the coal company CEOs and that's the only people that Rick Perry cares about. To kind of go a little further on his little supply first then try to find the demand later, I don't know if Rick Perry's heard of things like new Coke, Pepsi AM. Do you have to have the demand before you make the supply, Rick. That really is day one economic stuff there. You have to understand that. You can't go out and tell people you're going to give them an economics lesson, which is literally what you said, and then make it up as you go along. If you're not in a position where you understand the issue, do not try to teach it to other people. In fact, don't make promises in general that your administration can't keep. The coal industry itself has admitted nothing can be done to bring those coal jobs back. They understand that their industry is dying. They understand that global demand is dropping and there's nothing they can do to change it. It's just a matter of time before they all close. The only thing we can do to soften the blow for these workers is to get them into jobs training programs that the government needs to fund to create renewable energy. The US could be a world leader on that issue if only we had an administration that understood basic economics. Ring of Fire needs your help! Woman Dragged Out of Hearing for Calling Out Big Energy Donations
A candidate for the West Virginia House of Delegates was dragged out of a hearing after listing the donations received by state lawmakers from fossil fuel companies. She was testifying on a bill on oil and gas drilling rules. Lissa Lucas was criticizing a proposed bill, HB 4268, which would allow oil and gas companies to drill on private land with the consent of just 75 percent of the landowners. Energy companies are currently required to have 100 percent approval from landowners before they can extract gas and minerals from land. West Virginia Finally Gets Some Justice, Don Blankenship Indicted
"Right now, the criminal indictment of former Massey Energy CEO Don Blankenship — charged with responsibility for the deaths of 29 coal miners in an April 2010 mine explosion — is not available to the public. The families of the explosion’s victims, and the parties to the lawsuit, are not allowed to speak to the press. Court personnel are banned from making any statements to the media about what’s going on with the case. All of those restrictions were placed by U.S. District Judge Irene Berger, who issued the sweeping gag order shortly after Blankenship’s indictment. But five prominent news organizations are challenging Judge Berger’s decision in court, saying the gag order unreasonably prevents the news media from reporting on a case too important to be ignored." West Virginia Joins China's Win-Win Cooperation
When you think of the state of West Virginia, what first comes to mind? Appalachia? Coal country? The capitol of the US heroin epidemic? But did you also know West Virginia just landed an $83.7 billion dollar deal with a Chinese energy giant during President Trump’s visit to Asia? $83.7 billion dollars is more than the state’s entire GDP. The contracts, which span over a 20 year period, are investments in power generation, chemical manufacturing and a hub for liquefied natural gas. This is a huge deal and has implications well beyond West Virginia. This could be the beginning of a wave of high-end investments in US infrastructure, a priority most Americans share, regardless of political affiliation. So why haven’t you heard about this? Why hasn’t the mainstream media brought you this story? Not only are these deals a great example of the potential for US-China win-win cooperation, but their being buried by the mainstream media betrays which paradigm they wish to keep you, the viewer in. ---------- Subscribe to LaRouchePAC Live: http://lpac.co/youtube Subscribe to LaRouchePAC Videos: http://lpac.co/youtube-vid Subscribe to LaRouchePAC Science: http://lpac.co/youtube-sci Get active, become an organizer: http://lpac.co/action Receive daily email updates from LaRouchePAC: http://lpac.co/daily Donate to LaRouchePAC: http://lpac.co/donate-yt Keep connected at: https://larouchepac.com/ https://www.facebook.com/LaRouchePAC https://soundcloud.com/larouche-pac https://twitter.com/larouchepac ==========

Clinton Caught Flip Flopping On Coal
At a town hall event in March, Hillary Clinton said she was going to put coal companies out of business. Now she is in West Virginia, and has walked that statement back. John Iadarola and Jimmy Dore, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. “In March, speaking about renewable energy at a CNN town hall, Hillary Clinton described herself as “the only candidate” with “a policy about how to bring economic opportunity using clean renewable energy as the key into coal country. Because we’re going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business, right? … And we’re going to make it clear that we don’t want to forget those people.” “Those people” didn’t forget her either, or her words about putting them “out of business,” in part because Republicans had made much of her comment at the time. And on Monday, one of “those people” confronted her at a small roundtable event in Williamson, W.Va., in the heart of coal country. His name was Bo Copley, who described himself as an unemployed coal worker. Accompanied by his wife and a photograph of the couple’s children, he had a pointed question for Clinton: “How you could say you are going to put a lot of coal miners out of jobs and then come in here and tell us how you’re going to be our friend?” he asked, according to the Associated Press. Copley was variously described as “teared up,” “choked up” and “emotional” as he spoke.” Read more here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/05/03/unemployed-w-va-coal-worker-confronts-clinton-over-comment-about-putting-coal-out-of-business/ Hosts: John Iadarola, Jimmy Dore Cast: John Iadarola, Jimmy Dore *** The Largest Online News Show in the World. Historic Union Hill Community Threatened by Atlantic Coast Pipeline
Buckingham County, VA – Earlier this month, activists kayaked the James River along the planned route of Dominion Energy’s Atlantic Coast Pipeline (ACP). The pipeline route goes from West Virginia to North Carolina with plans to connect it to the Transco line, also in Union Hill, where the two will intersect and connect to export facilities. Dominion plans to build a large compressor station for the pipeline in Union Hill, a historic Black community founded by descendants of freed slaves in unincorporated Buckingham County near the Cumberland State Forest, west of Richmond. Local residents see the pipeline company’s disregard for their community as part of an established history of environmental racism in Virginia. November SURPRISE Obama to Bankrupt Coal Industry Energy to SKYROCKET!!!
November SURPRISE Obama to Bankrupt Coal Industry Welcome Bankruptcy! Virginia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana - Vote OBAMA for NO MORE COAL! Obama's Words: Let me sort of describe my overall policy. What Ive said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody elses out there. I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year. So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; its just that it will bankrupt them because theyre going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas thats being emitted. That will also generate billions of dollars that we can invest in solar, wind, biodiesel and other alternative energy approaches. The only thing Ive said with respect to coal, I havent been some coal booster. What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as a ideological matter as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it. So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can. Its just that it will bankrupt them. Obama sat with The Chronicle editorial board Jan. 17 for the interview. In his wide-ranging session with the paper, the Democratic senator from Illinois spoke about his energy plan and an "aggressive" cap-and-trade policy, and spoke about coal technology. "So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can. It's just that it will bankrupt them, because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted," he said. In the same interview, the senator said that "if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it." Obama is a dangerous FAR LEFT LIBERAL who will take our country in a way different direction than we have ever seen. Along with Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid, they will plow through anything they want to impose on the American people. They will also be able to elect Liberal judges who will interpret the constitution in a different way than how it was meant. We need judges who interpret the constitution, and not try to ammend it, as Barack Obama proposed in a 2001 Audio on NPR Radio. Where he stated he wanted the Supreme court to change the constitution to be able to redistribute wealth which was not done for the civil rights struggle. What the heck??!!!
