30,000 Toys "R" Us Workers Losing Their Jobs

Оценок: 452 | Просмотров: 3489
30,000 Toys "R" Us workers across the country are losing their jobs. This is what happens when you have a system that allows private equity firms to destroy profitable businesses and throw workers out on the streets with no severance.

They demand their workers to push their credit card scam or their hours are cut. They claimed the credit cards helped the store while every thing inside the stores was breaking down. Did it help the stores???

Wht happened to the futuristic view of automation freeing up ppl to not have to work? I see ppl trashing Amazon. I can only tell you as a disabled elderly person Amazon is a life saver for me. I try not to use them but there are times I have no choice. But I live in a failed circumstance of a life. God knows wht would happen to me if I did not have my children. Life in the united states is precarious and not secure. The lady whose husband has health problems. She has lost everything.

Imagine how big of a hero Trump would look like if he stepped in and ordered a bailout for TRU because of how shady financial practices put the company down. Americans love TRU. Remember those Carrier jobs that he saved? Yeah, it didn't last a year, they were all laid off. He's all talk when it comes to actually helping workers.
Django Fett (5 дней назад)
I learned the real scoop on what happened to ToysRUs from Dan Rather. It was all just shady financial practices that put the company down. Even though TRU is just a corporate brand retail chain, I still have a strong nostalgia for the chain because my parents took me there to pick out a toy a couple times a month and it was a huge deal for me. BUMMER!!! Its very sad to see how it affects the employees.

There should also be a discussion about how being able to order anything online is closing brick and mortar stores across the board, regardless of the companies sales. Our society is changing drastically, because of technology, and only now are people coming face-to-face with the ramifications of this.

Matrix Man (5 дней назад)
Alex Sikar In a perfect world, thats how its supposed to work. However beuaracrats dont have to give a shit if it gets a return or not because its stolen money and they get paid anyway. Private individuals and entrepreneurs earn their money, and therefore must provide value and produce a return or else they dont get paid. Econ 101.
Alex Sikar (5 дней назад)
Matrix Man Basically. The bailouts were essentially an attempt at bipartisanship that saved many Boomers, then was turned around as being purely Socialist. The governments job is to essentially supposed to be to take in tax money, and reinvest it into the economy in a way that WE, the taxpayers, get the largest return for our dollar.
Matrix Man (5 дней назад)
Alex Sikar The boomers shouldnt a have left all that money with Wall St. The crash already happened, the bailouts tried but failed to make it less bad
Alex Sikar (5 дней назад)
Matrix Man You're right, and then the thousands of "Boomers" who rely on the investments associated with them would lose everything too. That "bailout" was all that really prevented a real economic crash after Bush.

CLewey44 (5 дней назад)
This is a result of sending good paying, blue-collar jobs overseas to get a 'cheaper' product here. The problem there is nobody goes to these specialty stores due to not being able to afford it. When factory workers were making 45-65K a year, things were better than when those exact workers started working at a grocery store, fast-food restaurant and cell phone store to make ends meet. People feel insecure in their jobs, they don't spend, therefore the economy goes unstimulated.
President Donald J Trump (5 дней назад)

I imagine you already know that I am much more socialistic in my economic theory than capitalistic. And yet I am not so opposed to capitalism that I have failed to see its relative merits. It started out with a noble and high motive, to block the trade monopolies of nobles, but like most human systems it falls victim to the very thing it was revolting against. So today capitalism has outlived its usefulness. It has brought about a system that takes necessities from the masses to give luxuries to the classes. — Martin Luther King, Jr.

Toys R Us is a labour and real estate intensive retailer. They mostly sell environmentally destructive plastic from Asia. Imagine if these workers got jobs in a green technology factory or infrastructure redevelopment locally that produced something useful rather than needlessly hawking petroleum crap made in a foreign country.
Namen3 (12 часов назад)
Coldern Ice I would figure out an alternative. I would make whatever I needed. Recycling, repurposing, 3D printing, wood carving. Of course getting jerked around and losing a steady job is never a cake walk. The bigger picture is this microcosm featured is a part of the change need to create space for a healthy economy.
Coldern Ice (4 дня назад)
Who are you to pass judgement on working people, who have nothing to do with the manufacturing of plastic products ? These people are facing emotional and financial ruin. Love to see how YOU get by without something manufactured. You pretentious asshole.
alan alan (5 дней назад)
Namen3 that's good thinking, unfortunately most green tech is being developed in silicon valley or in other first world country's, we don't really fund much r&d on that sort of thing in murica,

Isn't this why unemployment insurance exists? The premise is that something is rotten if this can happen, but an actual problem is not expressed nor any solutions proposed. It just has sob stories from people that have not saved adequately and sad music. The people losing their jobs should focus on how they can make an economic contribution elsewhere. They are capable enough to hold down a job. If they have grounds, then sue, the executives and the financiers.

Capitalism!!!! This is what happens when we have right wingers run the government. President Obama or Bernie Sanders would have put a stop to this! Capitalism is running a muck in America.
sharon anderson (4 дня назад)
Karen Schumer Obama would not have. You think this happened over nite? This started under Obama's watch. Or shall we bring up wells Fargo as an example of Obama doing nothing.
Skullman8942 (4 дня назад)
@Karen Schumer Well, their effort is usually useless as they are both pawns for the donor class (Republicans and Corporatist Democrats) sure just because their not as evil makes them fine... wrong evil is still evil. Both need to be removed so progressives can take their place, they actually fight for the people's needs. Although its true Republicans try to stop anything and deem everything even remotely left communist or socialist. Heck, they call the corporatist Democrats socialists when they're actually right wing. Republicans don't care what anyone who isn't as far right as them does or thinks they will oppose it without a thought the good, bad and the ugly. Republicans are like mentally challenged infants and Corporatist Democrats are just vile criminals who know how to fuck people over. Corporatist Dems make it seem as If they care for you when they don't and Republicans don't even try to be human beings. They're all vile criminals but one side is arguably insane.
Karen Schumer (4 дня назад)
Republicans try to stop all the good things that democrats try to do!
Skullman8942 (5 дней назад)
Karen Schumer Obama a neoliberal corporatist is just as bad as the Republicans. Bernie and the real democrats that follow his ideas are sure to fix this eventually. Obama is just status quo. The Republicans and corporatist Democrats work for the donors not the people.

Why are they talking about Bain Capital all of a sudden?? I thought that was managed by Mit Ronmey is it not? Oh, I see the connection much better now. KKR is owned by mostly republican investors. KKR stands for Koberg Kravitz Roberts, who almost sunk Reynolds tomacco back in the 90s. Mit Ronmey is NO good!!!!!

David Jarman (6 дней назад)
Cmon... I feel sympathy sure, but toy sales are plummeting... its not the 90s anymore. Apps and gaming are what kids these days are brought up on, which is a sad truth but they're just not buying toys like they were. Compare it to how Netflix and other streaming services have killed the Blockbuster Video store market. What you can do is blame Toys R Us for not keeping up with the times and evolving though.

So sad. Toys R' Us is a shame to America. The upper level at customer service got ruthlessly greedy and cold. My heart breaks everytime I go into a store to hunt for my marvel legends. I feel weird even spending money infront of someone who I know is financially distressed. God bless these wonderful hard workers, many of them go out of their way to help with a heartwarming smile. Thank you TRU store employees!

I feel for these workers, I really do. Retail is hell, and corporate offices always do their best to maintain that status quo. We're going to have waves of people losing their jobs in manufacturing soon, too, thanks to these tariffs (hopefully I won't be one of 'em). I'll be amazed if it doesn't turn out that this is the start of another big recession.

BERNIE 2020!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Meshell A (6 дней назад)
Really, Bernie- THIS is NOT a private equity firms fault! If we're honest, Toys R US is Bankrupt due to your GIMMIE-FREEBIES Generation. Who literally are choosing to NOT have relationships much less children!? Hellooo, GIVE ME Freebies Gen is therefore *NOT* shopping at TOY-STORE'S because they have no children!! Smh.. WE, for the 1st time, have an ENTIRE Generation that 1st *has NO desire to have a family, much less a husband, wife/children* .. This is just 1 more deceptive video by Bernie! Seriously, if no one's having kid's *&* these Millenials & Boomers have switched to (what is easy for THEM)! They are more likely to shopp online @Amazon! *WHAT DID YOU THINK WOULD HAPPEN WHEN THEIR AREN'T A GENERATION OF BABIES (LIKE IN OUR PAST)* ?!? I shopped at this store & many other's, when my children were little. Now people just aren't willing to do that & they wonder why they are losing job's? Really? STOP SHOPPING ONLINE! My daughter, like many her age are simply waiting until much later in life to have a *planned family* .. Bernie's being deceptive here (surprise) & before you guy's jump down my throat because you can't handle hearing an opposing opinion? Please think when was the last time you shopped at Toys R Us? How about your local Mall? Exactly. Amazon- 2-Day Shipping is easy, you never even have to leave YOUR HOME! Give me a break. You (my daughter included) created this issue by not choosing to have children. It's not a private equity firm's fault, they simply do not have a profitable business & since they don't give free stuff away. Surprise, they now have to shut their doors & yes, people will lose their job's. I personally wish the best for these employees. If you wnat to help, have kid's & shop local (shopping local is very important to job's & your community) or don't complain...
Coldern Ice (4 дня назад)
Meshell A I'm not jumping on you for your differing opinion , I'm jumping on you because you're full of beans . I don't have kids, however I spend a lot of bucks for my relatives kids, and we hit the stores at holiday time and birthdays. Lame excuse, to attack Bernie- boy , is your agenda.
ghenulo (5 дней назад)
LOL! Who in their right mind would have children? I'd get castrated first.
Meshell A (6 дней назад)
Midwest slotgeeks Oh appologies, I thought I said this several times? Millennials, the one's statistically staying at home much longer than the generation prior to them. Are choosing to not get married, to not have a family until much later on in life. I'd go out on a limb & guess that said children's parent's are most likely Gen X'rs or older, not Millennials. Again my original point was when you have a great deal of one generation not having children until much later on in life (than previous gens) I was suggesting that could play a role as to why Toys R US is shutting down. It's not their fault, it's more of a byproduct of the economic uncertainty that they have directly experienced (that is why I assume they've delayed families).. Hopefully, I have answered your question & I will look more into what you keep saying about the 400 million "in profit".. It appears we may just disagree on this one? I appreciate your comment, again will look more into this!
Midwest slotgeeks (6 дней назад)
Meshell A who’s not having children again your avoiding the part of 400 million dollar profit. Working in childcare there are plenty of kids plenty
Meshell A (6 дней назад)
Midwest slotgeeks Oh, so it has nothing to do with the fact people simply aren't having children (therefore, no need to shop for toys & baby clothes)!! Look, I get it, this generation to an extent grew up with such economic uncertainty in the last 10 year's. Which *has* halted their desire to want/have a family... In the long run, it maybe a wise decision but again when a very large swath of any generation isn't having children like we did a generation back. It makes sense as to why this & many other store's have completely failed! BTW, what's with your & other's visceral "arguments" & calling me crazy? I simply I hold a different view but it doesn't mean there's anything wrong/"crazy" with anyone *(p.s. isn't that what they call a micro-agression, or to demean mental illnesses)? No, I'm not crazy, I'm just don't get why people resort to name calling, like how old are you? I question everything, after this last election & everyone should have the ability, with out being attacked for it. Regardless, I hope you & everyone else have a good evening!

Nah Toys R Us is actually not doing well. Thats why they have to shut down so many locations BERNIE. Thats probably hard to understand for someone who has never worked a free market job. Also many of those workers laid off (not all clearly based on this) are temporary workers that are not going to be retained over the summer slow season. Don’t blame the private equity companies because this would have happened anyways. Toy sales are down across the industry due to Amazon.

You can help by calling your senator or local representatives and telling them to support pro-union legislation for workers. If he doesn't listen to you threaten him by saying "You won't have my vote this upcoming election". That will make him nervous because he doesn't want to get voted out of office and lose his corporate pack money, he receives from big donors. We need publicly financed elections and get money out of politics because if we continue the route that we are currently on millions will lose their jobs and the politicians will continue getting richer.

You probably tend to ignore a lot of what people say. It's a side effect of people with some smarts and big egos. I have $10 that says you always want to get the last word, so feel free.

Christopher Gillman You still have failed to provide any data to support any of your claims, so I think you're actually the one with nothing to contribute.

So finish high school or whatever you're on, get some life experience and understand why base level facts are not enough unless you know where to apply them. Too much reluctance to learn means you're done and have nothing more to contribute. Are you sure that's how you want it? It's really not that hard if you're not lazy.

Christopher Gillman Google actually does help you know everything-- it's the most convenient way to get access to the data which, thankfully, we both agree is important. It is not easy to analyze data correctly. It requires training and experience. High School statistic courses don't cover it. So rather than trust my own, nonexistent skills, or your claims of skills which you provide no evidence for, I'll trust what actual experts say. Which, by the way, you are not, as far as I know. You criticize me for providing only on set of data, but provide no data yourself. Why should I trust you? You can't act like you know more or have more evidence or have done better analysis if you provide no data to support your arguments. For example: You say the unemployment decline is due to Obama. I agree with you, but you don't bother to point out that he passed X policy which did Y and therefore caused Z( Where Z is a decline in unemployment). You say " it's standard practice for a corporation to list many jobs that don't exist" but don't provide any examples or cite any source. We just have to trust that you've "looked into it." Your comment on ideology is a bit confusing. You said it would bring about a desired result, but then you say "We'll always be divided as long as there are people willing to shut others down before they listen. If you think you're always right, chances are you rarely truly are." That is what ideology is. It is assuming a set of maxims are now and forever true. For example, the ideology of libertarianism is, simplified a bit: "A free marketplace will always produce a better result than a regulated marketplace." That shuts down any discussion of X regulation that might produce a better result; It forces all discussion to revolve around a general maxim, and most people are not trained in the philosophy and political science necessary to properly discuss a maxim like that.It also assumes that you are always right; e.g. that markets are always good; when ideologies rarely fit all cases well. I use libertarianism here because it's easier to simplify than Marxism, not to indicate a preference for either. Talking about the facts can orient your position towards a solution; for example, X policy by Obama reduced unemployment, therefore we should maintain it, or X policy by Obama increased unemployment, so we should eliminate it. We have to know the "surface facts" to evaluate its effectiveness, although I agree that experts have to look a bit deeper.

Capitalism breeds gross inequality and master-slave relationships. We need Worker Cooperatives in this country. The workers should make the decisions, vote for their board of directors and supervisors. And each worker earns a share of the profits. https://institute.coop/

Ymr Idealistically, and on the surface, and in the definition liberals do, but how much positive change have we gotten lately from those in office, really? They always manage to fall short of the goal, unless they are voting on something like increasing the military spending. And conservatives want to change all the New Deal stuff that has been working and has been around now for all of their lives, and that most of them and their families depend upon---because they keep voting for changing it in voting for their 'conservative' politicians who want to change it, do away with it.

First line from Wikipedia: 'Neoliberalism or neo-liberalism refers primarily to the 20th-century resurgence of 19th-century ideas associated with laissez-faire economic liberalism. Those ideas include economic liberalization policies such as privatization, austerity, deregulation, free trade and reductions in government spending in order to increase the role of the private sector in the economy and society.' Mainly the economic policy that started with Reagan and unfortunately continues today.

People don't have kids because they can't afford them. Our country continues to outsource jobs and keep everyone under a mountain of debt. Rents are high and people still struggle to pay their medical bills. Sorry you fucked up your life and are now stuck in a black hole of fucking misery with kids you can't afford to take care of and I'm sure you have weight issues as well because you can't afford to eat healthy. If you were happy with your fucked up life you wouldn't be talking this shit and attacking someone for no reason. But you came on the wrong thread and you encountered my ass. HUGE MISTAKE. You don't understand basic economics. Educate yourself and grow the fuck up you hideous bitch.

Surprise that will cause them to go bankrupt, nothing is free & Yes, you need customers. imagine that... People a real having issue's using critical thinking. Bernie is also being deceptive in this sad video. Using people's emotions (TO MANIPULATE YOU), His Not explaining the problem correctly. So frustrating.

D N not really dude they’re going out of business because nearly everyone buys toys on Amazon now. That being said there will always be a market for some toy shops to bring kids in for fun, but I don’t think the massive TRU stores are a sustainable business model anymore.

Fuck. Just start your own worker owned toy store. Quit waiting for corporations or the government to take care of you.
