Passionate believers in whole food plant based diets, no chemicals, minimal pharmaceutical drugs, no GMO's. Fighting to stop climate change and extinction.
Dr. Fuhrman, I think you are a great person that helps many others. There's nothing better than being able to make a living doing just that, thank you! I concur and follow a good deal of what you preach. I'm not big on going for specific foods because of studies about them but I do go for categories, such as what you mentioned with nuts and seeds. You convinced me and I will at them to my limited food selection. I choose almonds and walnuts which can be readily found at good prices. I will add more, but as long as they have no added ingredients and don't have parts removed which contain significant nutrients. In addition, I will change my diet for regular bean consumption. I do make pinto beans. The mashed pinto beans I cook sometimes have an unpleasant texture to me which I must add picante sauce to be palatable. I want to switch to tomatoes, instead, which has no sodium.
Regardless of what I do, the whole food plant based diet I eat as described by the Starch Solution is a fine base. Thanks, again!
Fuhrman did not have a stroke in his 20s,which may be why is looks younger. Starches do improve digestion but so do SOME raw fruits but no much for raw vegetables ,as they can and often do cause digestive problems. Its not speculation about the longevity of Asians... its widely available data. Have you ever read the China Study which is the most comprehensive study of diet ever done. The Asians did eat other things but their diet was about 90% rice. That shows the proven benefit of starches. So NO the Asian diet and longevity is not speculation.....it a matter of record......READ "The China Study".
Joel Fuhrman was born in 1953, and he looks younger today than Mcdougal did 10 years ago. Raw fruits and veggies and herbs increase digestive capability... and starches do not increase digestion, they are just "easier" to deal with when you cook them while having an already weak digestive capability, and starchy foods dilute the digestive potential to a worse state...
It is pure speculation to ASSUME that the Asians lived the longest in the world, and it is also pure speculation to ASSUME that starch is the ONLY thing that Asians used to try to maintain their level of health; Asians were already observed to included *herbs* and *veggies* and drank *tea* and did *exercise* and *ate in moderation*... and it is observed that Asians STILL died earlier than your average raw vegan because raw fruits and veggies and herbs increased digestive capability greater than many Asian diets...
Side note: Bruce Lee ate a lot of starch yet died from an easily curable disease in his 30's...
McDougall was born in 1947 so I think he is older than Fuhrman who was an athlete in his youth. McDougall also had a stroke in his 20s but I agree he is looking old these days. The reason why people dont do better on the nutritarian diet is digestion. Starches like rice and potatoes are very easy to digest and many of the foods Fuhrman recommends are hard on the digestive system.Since the digestive system is so important to the body's health its easy to see why the starch diet is healthier. The history of the starch diet is not speculation....its what people have eaten for centuries especially in China,Japan,Asia, and the green zones where people are the healthiest and live the longest....often without the benefit of medical care.
But that is speculation with no observed data. And claims and speculation about ancient history is not observed data either. The effects of the nutritarian diet and the starch based diet has been observed throughout history, and people had better results with the nutritarian diet. Also notice how both Fuhrman and Mcdougal are roughly the same age range yet Mcdougal looks and sounds older and less healthy than Fuhrman.
Very good information but it would have been nice if the words were not trown over you as a bucket of water..
The information is very hard to process due to no time in between words and ideas to keep the thougts in good order and try to keep up in understanding all worthfull knowledge.
At 30 minutes I really needed a break to give my brain some rest.
Probably an idea next time to talk a little slower for people that have less hurried brains 🙁
Besides that I really appreciate the talk.
This is half truth information yes vegetable s do make you perform better but the big culprit is sugar not meat as the cause of cancer...look up sugar companies paying off Harvard university to change there paper to demonize meat industry....wen did cancer start to sky rocket ? About the same time in the 50s wen sugar cane was easier to process and started using pesticides on vegetables and fruit...there is no proof that meat causes cancer you cant use classification of meat eaters ? Thi sis all bulshit
Many of them do get sick and die prematurely. You better listen to this guy Lambrinos. He is right. Who are you listening to? Your "gut" instinct? Your fast food restaurant? Meat and dairy producers? yeah.
Excellent presentation. I believe that Dr Fuhrman is one of the foremost nutrition researchers and practicing medical doctors alive today. Every one of his books contains page after page of the specific cited clinical studies from which he forms his nutritional approach. His book "Eat to Live" Contains 45 pages of cited clinical studies.
I have read many of those studies. It is my observation that Dr Fuhrman makes no guess, and never jumps to conclusions based upon a single study, or a poorly designed study. Rather, Dr Fuhrman forms his opinions based on the most robust studies available -- the medical studies with Hard End Points. Hard endpoints are broad based studies that look at the long term consequences of foods which increase or decrease the risk of death. Increase or decrease the long term risk of cancer. Increase or decrease over the long term the risk of serious heart disease.
The result is not Dr Fuhrman's off the cuff opinion. The result is not the findings of cherry picked poorly designed studies.Rather the result is the most robust health formula based upon the most robust studies known to medical science.
Dr Fuhrman is a rare talent among nutritional researchers and medical doctors. He knows the sound research forward and backward. He is dedicated to staying abreast of the current research.
I am happy to be able to have this brilliant knowledge made available to me.
Thank you so much.
start a people movement against food producers and GMO criminals! Mass sue them! If we do not get rid of all the shit they put in our food, what use is to change your diet when everything is full of poison!! In my country witch is north european, a broccoli last about max a week in the fridge. In, lets say, south east asia, it is as green as ever after more than two weeks!! you veggie fanatics out there tell me that broccoli is safe and sound! And this example is the same for many more foods!
When the common person hears a diagnosis of cancer, they have been brainwashed by almost every aspect of society to automatically enter a state of emotional collapse. The disease has been intentionally placed on this high (and very expensive) pedestal by the establishment, out of reach of the layman. We have been conditioned to be powerless against this sickness. The problem is that the current paradigm is, "you get sick, and come to us...Big Brother Pharma...and we will sell you hope." People will pay top dollar for hope. We have the strangest codependent relationship with the medical industry, and I fail to understand exactly why we still insist on suckling from their poison teats, instead of curing ourselves.
+Josh Spiv After telling a family member that diet can protect the body from heart disease and cancer. He responded, " it's the luck of the draw." I said, " no it isn't. It's the food." Well since then several family members have passed away, some suddenly and others slowly and miserably--all eating the worst SAD diet possible.
Victim culture. Yep. The way I see it, people are mostly weak-minded sheep, who hold deep subconscious fears of going against the flock. We're conditioned from birth to be this way, and I'm so relieved that I was able to break free.
Yup. The sad thing is, though, most do not want to hear it. There is so much nutrition misinformation in the general population it's sickening. People with whom I work are all overweight and many suffer from past heart attacks, pre-diabetes, high blood pressure etc. No one cares about their health. We live in a victim culture where everything is someone elses' fault. Cancer? Government hiding cures from us. Diabetes? Big pharma conspiracy. Obese? Love yourself and attack anyone who is pro-skinny. Heart disease? Eh, it just happens cuz genetics! Absolute madness.
I know this stuff most people do ...he doesn't tell you how to grow an organic backbone / you have to have a supportive tribe believe me..or it is a constant uphill battle. What's needed is a modern monastery behind giant walls ...organic gardens, vineyards and orchards. With a mote around it so the agri-chemical industrial monsters don't get to you.
I have been on a WFPB diet for about 10 months and am down to a 20.5 BMI, a BP of 112 over 65, etc., because of Dr. Fuhrman, Dr. Pam Popper, and the others who are at the forefront of promoting a proper, healthful diet. Let us all be WFPB evangelists and take this ecologically sound crusade of good health to the masses.
Most people want to keep their bad habits. Our society loves our steak houses and fancy bakeries. We worship Starbucks Coffee with their sugary drinks. Hopefully one day this will change. Even Walmart now sells fruits and vegetables😊
Before I started my BP was around 125/80, and total cholesterol was around 170. Within a few months BP was 115/70, and cholesterol was 150. After about two years they seem to have stabilized where they are now. I really originally tried this way of eating because of the very uncomfortable heartburn (burning throat) and other indigestion, and asthma attacks (maybe from the acid going into the lungs). These subsided completely after a few months and were much better in a few weeks. Now of course, I see the other great side effects of it. I feel great with the energy and health of my high school days.
Yea Dr. Fuhrman! Thanks for your reminding me about plain good old veggies and fruits to take care of my health. Tomorrow I will be eating a nutritarian diet, and from now on!! So glad I caught you on Utube!!! You were my first veg doctor book that I bought 20 years ago but I slipped around all this time. Back to your basics!!! Love you and your life saving message!
This is awesome - I have lost 100 lbs following Dr. Fuhrman's nutritarian guidelines, and I have never been healthier. I made a video about everything I learned in this weight loss journey, I hope you enjoy it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZUVFdepNFw&feature=youtu.be
I can see why you find McDougall easier to understand: he doesn't use complicated technical terms like 'liver' or reference any medical papers. And he has patronizing pictures of cows to illustrate his points.
I like Fuhrman and think that most of what he says makes sense as far as diet and health, but it bothers me how shamelessly he and many other internet doctors talk about getting rid of all diseases and getting to perfect health in weeks or months. This makes him less credible to me, not more.
And what was that at the very beginning where he says to disregard everything he is saying? Was that supposed to be funny?
He says you can never get sick? Baloney
justgivemethetruth.. I've been eating this way for almost 8 years and I have literally not been sick once. Not even once. The funny thing is because I am slender now(lost 100 pounds) family and friends are concerned. I feel nothing short of amazing and wish I could help spread this truth but so many are unwilling to listen due to deeply programmed belief systems.
This information should be required study in Junior High to make our population healthier and lower healthcare costs. It is so insane that we allow people to poison Americans. Thank you for this information. I am a 4th stage cancer patient in a nursing home.
Living Graves~By George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950)
We are the living graves of murdered beasts,
Slaughtered to satisfy our appetites.
We never pause to wonder at our feasts,
If animals, like men, can possibly have rights.
We pray on Sundays that we may have light,
To guide our footsteps on the path we tread.
We’re sick of War, we do not want to fight –
The thought of it now fills our hearts with dread,
And yet – we gorge ourselves upon the dead.
Like carrion crows, we live and feed on meat,
Regardless of the suffering and pain
We cause by doing so, if thus we treat
Defenseless animals for sport or gain,
How can we hope in this world to attain
The PEACE we say we are so anxious for.
We pray for it, o’er hecatombs of slain,
To God, while outraging the moral law.
Thus cruelty begets its offspring – WAR.
“What we leave behind—our legacy—is how we affected others. And for most of us, no other choice has a greater impact on the legacy of help— or harm— we leave behind, than our daily food choices. Day after day, and year after year, our lives can be seen as the culmination of thousands of instances in which, equally assured of nourishment and health, we had the opportunity to choose kindness and mercy toward other animals, or to choose violence and death for them. For billions of people, the question of eating animals really comes down to this basic question: am I someone who, when able to freely choose, would rather harm animals, or help them? When able to choose, do I choose kindness over violence, or violence over kindness? Our answer is our legacy.”
Sort of right but it's a multifactorial problem where the "dominant" factor is diet. There are so many carcinogens thesedays though, particularly excessive polyunsaturates lack of fibre from fruit and vegetables. Pritikin identified this way back in 1980. Processed sugars are empty calories, to say they cause cancer, I doubt it...
His lectures are filled with easy to follow healthy eating guidelines. A true leader in sharing valuable life saving information. We learn something new each time we listen to his lectures on detailed studies. If you care for your health and want to avoid or even reverse damages caused by poor eating habits, follow his advice. HE CARES!!! Thanks Dr Fuhrman and be blessed.
He's wrong about the 50 calories extra a day making you fat and decreasing life expectancy. Your body will adapt to caloric intake. The problem is when you eat carbohydrates AND fat. Then you start storing extra weight because your body will use the easiest burned fuel which is carbs. Remove carbs from your diet and you will lose weight or maintain your body weight due to the beautiful thing that is your body. I'm sure you all know better than me so go ahead and listen to this guy talking without provided studies that can be reviewed. smh!
The way we think is 100% why there is dis-ease. We are electric/magnetic energy field vibrations. Totally. Thoughts are images. WE are NOT solid or physical, so therefore we are holograms. Whatever you imagine first resonates through your holographic body changing it. Energy travels constantly and fast. When I first read about this I was counseled to watch for any signs of stress to see what my thoughts were. When I would get flu symptoms, I would think that I must be thinking something negative. Whatever those thoughts were, I would immediately tell myself that "I am well. I am perfect. I feel good". I would say these words to myself to see how long it took for these symptoms to go away. The time got shorter and shorter the more I practiced. It took about 20 minutes for the flu symptoms to go away the first time. The energy flow through my body got faster and faster. The healthier I was, the faster I would go back to perfect.
Barbara Brennan, a physicist/healer, wrote the book "Hands of Light". She taught herself to see people as holograms. She could see the dis-ease/stress in people's bodies. She encouraged people to talk about all their stresses. The more they talked, the more relief they got, until finally the stress was gone. That means the dis-ease was gone.
We are not flesh and bone. At the quantum level we are 100% conscious light. This light creates us constantly. This is a conscious light that forms fractals. At the core of this existence are conscious waves of energy and light--electrical vibrations. When what is called a soul decides to create one of us from its imagination, its ideas, its purpose for us comes together exactly as what we are. This soul is the most highly motivated, accelerated, energized, potently concentrated, potentials unlimited, playful being in all of existence-- which is All That Is--or what people call God or the matrix or the unified field. The information that puts us together is greater than any computer's on earth.
I read the Seth books. Seth is a electrical/image being existing in another dimension. This is because I had a NDE as a child. I heard and felt energy beings around me. I knew that there was no death then. But since I was tortured for my insistence on knowing what I felt and heard, I became severely anti social. So in my 20's I started reading books about these energy beings and imagery healing. And placebos. And all kinds of religions. And quantum physics. When I found out that what is called the particle/wave duality is not a duality at all, all that I had read came together. We really are all one mind all saturated within a consciousness so intelligent that it creates unlimited dimensions. Brennan wrote that we are eternal, multidimensional, holographic, electromagnetic energy/light beings. There are many pictures in her book of what we look like out of these bodies.
I received this email recently from the site Ask a Mathematician, Ask a Physicist:
What are "actual pictures" of atoms actually pictures of?.
Actual pictures of atoms aren’t actually pictures at all.
There are a few good rules of thumb in physics. Among the best is:
light acts like you’d expect on scales well above its wavelength and
acts weird on scales below. In order to take a picture of a thing you
need light to bounce …
The only thing physicists have actually seen is basically a computer
image, not the real image, and second, they observe electric fields,
not the particle itself. They do not observe particles themselves;
they are able to observe only the field. However this alone does not
prove anything, but that the electric energy field exists and that’s
about it---no atoms, no photons, no electrons, no quarks. no nothing.
So no, particles do not exist. Particles exist only inside
mathematical abstractions and nothing more and nothing else. We don’t
know what actually exists in the real world, except that there are
energy fields---electric, magnetic and all other forms and all other
kinds of energy fields.
I forgot to add what exactly is visualized with all these microscopes
including STM--the scanning tunneling microscope. What is visualized
is the charge density of the electric field.
Basically you observe vibrations---electric vibrations.
You haven’t seen an atom either. You’ve seen an image you assume to be
an atom, but it is simply an instrument’s representation of the atom.
It is not the atom itself.
These techniques aren’t actually “visual” like microscopes we work
with in biology classes. Microscopes use lenses and light to help zoom
and focus on small objects. Electron microscopes, on the other hand,
use quantum scattering theory to construct the shape of small objects,
then the data is transferred to a computer to create a model. The
wavelengths of visible light ranges on the order of ~370nm to 750nm.
These are all MUCH larger than many particles of interest (and way too
large to view atoms, which are on the order of Angstroms–0.1nm).
Scientists need to be creative to be able to “see” atoms.
So, no, scanning tunneling microscopes and atomic force microscopes
did not prove the existence of atoms.
OK, I've been impressed with DOCTOR Fuhrman for years, but he gained new respect and admiration when I saw an interview with him in his garden, and found out that he built his own green house (including a cinder-block foundation) and clones and gives away fig trees and is, in general, and enthusiastic and generous gardener.
I love his enthusiasm. The man is wholly alive, and that's an attractive quality.
All good but I think the war on cancer first of all directly coincides with a war against corporate capitalist industrial society and the psychopatic power structure deliberately putting chemicals in our environment that set up the ideal bodily conditions for cancer to develop. And second if we don't overcome the near term existential threats humanity faces right now with the climate system, degrading biosphere and again an out of control ,clinically insane corporate elite driving us all into World War III and planetary omnicide. Fighting cancer almost sounds like a lost effort. Even so, this approach to cancer should be out there on every mainstream media channel. Instead of the deadly chemotherapy developments being propagated by a criminal multi trillion dollar pharmaceutical industry.
"These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. The information provided in this comment is not intended as a substitute for advice from your physician or other health care professional"
Sounds like a good argument but the thing is cancer is a relatively new disease so what changed people were eating meat oils and all these animal products and not getting cancer and then came along this new disease cancer what changed? You have to look for what the change was one change is America started putting supplements in foods such as iron who knows could be.
Tumours have been documented for hundreds of years, but the instance has become ridiculously high, along with the quantity of animal products we eat (and with other toxins and radiation that humans have implemented and released into our environment). Our ancestors didn't eat meat 3 times a day. Peasants have always eaten little meat and dairy and they made up the majority of the population. Gout, tumours and heart disease were the diseases of the rich: rich, show-off diets.
Cancer is a 'relatively new disease'? How 'new' is 'new'? One thousand six hundred years ago cancer was killing Egyptians. I guess you're pretty old then if you think cancer is a 'new' disease.
The word cancer came from a Greek words karkinos to describe carcinoma tumors by a physician Hippocrates (460–370 B.C), but he was not the first to discover this disease. Some of the earliest evidence of human bone cancer was found in mummies in ancient Egypt and in ancient manuscripts dates about 1600 B.C.
instead of nuts and seeds can you use avocado as a dressing? all the gurus have different points of view on everything, drives me crazy, been at this for 50 years and everyone contradicts each other ... this seems the purest but others say beans creates acidity and acidity creates a host for cancer.
Well, kinda I eat mostly low-fat whole plant-foods a large part raw during summer and spring anyway, though I stick with dr. Greger's daily dozen it's 90+% compatible with Fuhrman's nutritarian G-BOMBS.
I have been using Braggs Nutritional Yeast and read the label only to find that it was supplemented with all the B Vitamins including Folic Acid...just threw the brand new jar in the garbage and ordered on Amazon one that has no supplementation.
