Scotty Kilmer I wished you lived in the Bahamas. The mechanics here only take your money and piss you off. You're one of the rare gems.

Good video scottty I would not advise anybody to put wheel locking nuts on as a garage once tightened them up with the air tool to 150+ lbs and it broke the delicate locking nut key when i tried to undo them and had to order a new locking nut key abroad to get it off. Glad it did not happen at the roadside in the middle of nowhere I have my car garaged at home and don't go anywhere dodgy so i don't need them.

A good torch is essential along with spare fan belt in boot, side jack, spare tyre, extendable wheel brace, bottled water etc.

Scotty, many people would say as a beginner you should be using a torque wrench for wheel tightening and other critical areas. Would you agree(you haven't mentioned it in your video)? And I think something like wheels is very basic. Or might hand tight be ok for wheels, brakes and other such areas?

I stopped buying SnapOn for 3 reasons. They don't always warranty everything. People like to steal nicer tools. There are cheaper tools that are just as good as the over priced ones.

How was the low pro jack only $20 more than the little one? The low pros are like $140. Here in Canada I bought a jack set with that little kind of jack and wheel chocks and jack stands for under $50

Was cutting down a 70 ft. tree in backyard, it bent the fence post. Was easier to use the bent post as a breaker bar, instead of trying to perfectly straighten it The only use for 12 point sockets are using them to remove stripped nuts

You can also rent specialty tools from auto parts stores. Need a steering wheel puller? Go rent it then return it, that's not something anyone needs to keep around unless they work on cars all the time.

I did a "rev up your engines" once at a stoplight. popo pulled me over says "what's eating you, REVerend?" <-- not actually a priest LOL. another good thing to buy is a "stripped bolt" remover socket set. afaik, only harbor freight has em, they're bullet proof, pretty much get any bolt out. used em on a 4.6L main cap on the aluminum bolts on the side. those bolts strip like it's their business

I know this video is 3 years old now but its amazing how time can change ones opinion. In one of your newer videos you just made recently you literally recommend people to buy this new 90$ code reader for your cell phone, when in this video you told people not to buy cell phone code readers lol
Scotty Kilmer (6 месяцев назад)
+KyleProGamer times have changed, and so have the code readers. Before they were crap, but they have come a long way in a few years. I’m constantly evolving my videos to keep up with the current technology, thanks for noticing👍

smart mechanics drive toyota/honda.. I would never go to a mechanic who drives a trash american or german himself.

True. I remember an awesome mechanic back in the day. Wondered what kind of hot rod he drove himself. "Honda Accord" was his reply as he pointed his finger to the car parked out back.

3:15 how do the cheap Bluetooth OBDii readers damage your car? What is the possible damage from them? I have used one, and aside from it dropping communication often, it has worked for short periods of time. And I am not speaking praise for these cheap things by any means, I am just asking because if they really can do damage I will stop using it. I just need to know how they can damage a car, it just doesn't seem possible with the low voltages they use.
Viking (6 месяцев назад)
It won't damaged your car.

I like Duralast tools, great warranty for their tools, I have a 180 tool set, a 3 1/2 ton jack, and a newer breaker bar. I broke my previous breaker bar after I got done changing out a flat tire, I left my breaker bar on the back bumper, I made a sharp turn and I heard a loud clang, after I did a tool inventory, I noticed my breaker bar was missing, so I texted my mom to let her know that my breaker bar fell off, I got it back, but the little ball that secures the socket on popped off, so I went to Autozone and got a new one for free.
Emmers Ebon Hawk (8 месяцев назад)
2:15  lot easier to lift and not push down to break the nuts loose. Always do like hearing what Scotty says. I agree no need for expensive tools when the cheaper tools at the autoparts store are just as good.

If you haven't heard of BlueDriver everyone, check it out. It's a bluetooth scan tool that isn't a POS. Cost me about $100. The application is free to download. You can do everything from scanning to reading freeze frame and live data. It's worth a look if you're in the market for a scan tool and trust me it's well worth the money. Owned it for about a year now. Nice for turning off that pesky P0420 (cat converter) code on my ol' subie :P. Which reminds me, have to go fix that..eventually.

When you've had your car or truck or motorcycle dead and then fixed it, it feels so good to hear Scotty say "Rev up your engines."
Rick Tobin (1 год назад)
I don't know Scotty the Carly is very good BMW specific codes it is I/O and can give you dealer lvl historical data. It is wifi and after you buy the app and adapter you are only able n it for $110 the dealer will charge you 90 bucks just to clear a code. I recommend highly the Carly obd2 adapter even let me turn off my seatbelt gong if I have something heavy in my front seat. AuTo fold my mirrors allow my DVD screen to work while driving for my passenger. Change my blinker to 5 vs 3 on a soft signal. Adjust my auto wipers. And get a full report on the driving habits my car has endured ie 18% of trips under 5k 40% of trips over 20k 30% of trips over 80k 17%of trips over 100k also let me disable the auto stop start.

I bought each of my three younger sons the big assortment of tools from Harbor Freight. If you watch the sale sheets you can get one for $159.00. After four or five years, I now have one in the back of the Chevy to fix any road problems--mine or others. Helped a guy fix his semi on the side of the road late one night--boy, was he glad to see me. I also have two really excellent door stops. However, under the heading "hope springs eternal" my middle son actually YouTubed a pretty difficult car fix and saved his college buddy a thousand+ dollar repair by borrowing back his doorstop tool set and actually getting some grease under his fingernails. Woo-hoo. For my part, I gave his buddy a copy of "The Auto Trader" and told him to start looking now before his p.o.s. had a chance to break down again. Seriously, I have saved myself and my boys thousands of dollars in mechanical and towing charges by simply figuring out car problems and watching every YouTube video on how to manage a fix. Being modern day trailer trash, I work in the sun, dirt, bugs and neighbor's evil looks so I have a finely tuned sense of reality. No engine pulls or open heart transmission surgery going on but replacing the odd starter or alternator swap--I'm your man.
