Dr.Campbell has spent the last 40 years at the forefront of nutrition research. His major research project the China Project is the largest nutrition study ever conducted. Here he shares his ideas to revolutionize our nation's health.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
50k p/y Household Effective income impact before basic housing expenses. Tax Rate(10%) + healthcare premium(12-25k) 34% for individuals, 60% for families! We’re already paying for this, one way or another! HR 676 MFA!
We need to get the word out and save alot of people dying at the hands of a healthcare system which is supposed to be saving them. For us developing countries who have health systems which are heavily dependent on donor aid (over 90%), we are screwed!!!!
Quite frankly, right now - the government should do the same thing it does to emission regulations. Everybody gets 5 years to clean up their act. Afterwards, we're shutting down all the hospitals leaving one per county for emergency medicine. The rest will be turned into gyms! THIS VIDEO IS FREE! Unless you are in a jungle someplace there's no reason to show up at a hospital in 5 years with any of those diseases!
Went vegan on August 24, 2017 and haven't looked back. Down almost 80 pounds and haven't 'dieted' one day! I eat beans, veggies, fruit and complex carbohydrates when I'm hungry. The change in me was so drastic, that my 'meat and potatoes' husband decided to try it on January 1, 2018. He's still vegan and plans on being so, (as do I) for the rest of our lives. My husband's A1C dropped from 7.5 to 6 in less than 6 months! Just stop and think about that! Anyone that understands A1C will tell you that this is drastic!
This gentleman and Dr. Esselstyn's work has added years to my husband's and my life! Dr. Campbell's story about his mother in law lets me know what a good heart he and his family have. LOVE him and Dr. Esselstyn!
Why does he say there are no vitamins in animal products? What about vitamin A in butter, etc.? B vitamins in meat and egg yolks, such as thiamine in pork, and B12. I'm all for plant-based diets, but it seems to me inaccurate to say animal products contain no vitamins.
Super interesting. But is there any mention of what else the rats were eating? It’s pretty important to know if the rats being fed a high protein diet were also eating high carbohydrates like a meal mixed with protein plus corn. That would completely change the findings because the increase could be due to something like corn - one of the most genetically modified foods on our planet.
Just read Dr. Campbell's newer book " Whole-Rethinking the science of nutrition". I read " The China Study" in 2010, was totally convinced, and have been following WFPB diet since , my health has been turned around for the best ( from took 8 Rx drugs to now taking none- not even Tylenol ) . I cannot praise Dr. Campbell enough for his brilliance , integrity and compassion for the goodness of mankind. If people don't take heed to follow his ideas and reasons to adapt to " plant based whole food, " after listening to this lecture, they are not serious about their health , and have to endure all the ill consequences of the SAD ( Standard American Diet) like millions of people around the world even with the best health insurance.
Of course prescription drugs are a leading cause of death, they'll lead to Chronic Kidney Disease and eventually Renal Failure which is seen in many people who've taken lots of medication throughout their lives.
Wow I'm so happy to heard that , always I'm eating fresh and natural , I Been meet a lot people around the world with a lot sick problem like cancer diabetes and etc a help them with natural medicine and all them now the have a new life and new star fresh to eating good , so if any one have any problems left me know I will love to help you ,have a blessing day God bless you
This makes sense. However, where is the money in it? There is a lot of money selling vitamin A supplements or making rice produce it via DNA manipulation. But there is not a lot of money selling a carrot- The best option amongst the three I mentioned. This is unfortunately the price you pay for a capitalist world where money is more important than millions of lives lost slowly.
GO KETO FOLKS. PLENTY OF GOOD FATS WITH PROTEIN FOR REPAIR. DON`T END UP LOOKING LIKE A STICK INSECT LIVING ON LETTUCE, CABBAGE LEAVES AND GM GRAINS COVERED IN WEED KILLER PESTICIDES AND HERBICIDES. STOP EATING JUNK FOODS AND GET OF YOUR ARSES.
amazing talk!!!! everyone should watch and educate themselves on this topic!! ever since I sent whole food plant-based, I've never felt better. this way of lifestyle is perfect for people who love to eat, like me!!!
Over 15% of US GDP is healthcare. It's a huge industry. The easiest way to corrupt someone is with money. I wouldn't expect this industry to be without its own level of corruption. Doing your own research into the subject of nutritional health rather than depending on mainstream healthcare is the best way to start preventative healthcare.
My grandma is vegan for a 40 years by now. She is 84 and she has never ever had any health problems. She doesn't even wear glasses. She's more active and vigorous than most of my friends (and I'm 21).
It's an amazing thing how we can use our diet to maintain a healthy and happy lifestyle. Good luck to all of you!
And greetings from Poland :)
On the topic of cancer, could it be that substituting plant for animal foods simply increases the amount of phytonutrients consumed which is what is really reducing the incidence of cancer (and not different types of protein per se).
I am alive and well today because of his science. His information has helped me thrive and overcome 2 heart attacks and 2 different types of cancer. The Holistic Holiday at Sea is coming up in a month and you have a chance to spend 8 days with him eating wonderful, healthy food, listening to the most successful lifestyle medicine doctors in the world. See you there? Dr. Flora Mason Van Orden, certificate in Plant Based Nutrition from eCornell and Nutrition in Clinical Practice, from George Washington University Medical Center.
The most recent comments are certainly supportive of Campbell, as they should be, due to the fact that he has over three decades of professional experience in the field of biochemistry and nutrition.... Way more than any youtube commenter unquestionably haha.
Genetic Research....has made GMO's (genetically modified organism) which is in almost everything you eat from the grocery store. All dairy products are bad.. Factory farmed animals are given antibiotic shots (because they live in filth), hormone shots (to make them grow fatter...faster), and are fed GMO grain. This all goes into you, when you drink milk, eat cheese, ice cream, etc. Eat and drink only organic, from animals that are grass fed, without all those shots. Find organic almonds, or other nuts, and learn how, from youtube, to make your own organic almond milk, or other nut milk. Silk is a brand of almond milk and other dairy products, but their in bed with Monsanto, along with a few other major organic brands. Do your homework on organic brands! If you switch to eating and drinking nothing but pure organics, your whole life will turn around! Study up on three major words...organics, GMO's, and Monsanto....and you'll be ahead of a lot of people, who aren't paying attention to what's in regular grocery store food, while their getting fat, and sick!
Today, it's even bad to eat plants! Today, you have to buy organic plants to get good nutrition, because if you eat just regular plants, your getting tons of chemicals that have been sprayed on those plants. Study up on the organic companies that aren't in bed with Monsanto, and eat organic plants, without tons of herbicides, pesticides, etc. Or grow your own organics, and you'll see a difference in your health!
Dr. Campbell, I struggled with anorexia nervosa for thirty years, absolutely terrified of gaining weight. All I had to do was look around and see what eating did to people...but I learned from your research in The China Study that my fears were unfounded. I read the book, quite by accident, right as I was coming out of the inpatient unit of an eating disorders program. It has saved my life. Then, when Forks Over Knives came out, I bought ten copies and distributed them to everyone I care about. I am spreading your knowledge...thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are truly my hero. 💕
I would like to first apologize to Dr. Campbell, for the simple fact that I nearly skipped over this video based entirely on the title. Thinking that this was just a lecture based on an opinion on improving the healthcare system, I was pleasantly surprised to see a healthy, elderly man sharing his facts about how the right diet can improve my own health significantly. A healthcare system that currently does not stress or display these facts enough, does not allow the communities to know the health benefits proper nutrition can provide. For instance, Dr. Campbell's statement about how eating whole plant-based foods can help prevent and cure diseases, was astounding to me. His intent of showing his audience the benefits of changing their diets to more nutritional ones, definitely shows beneficence. By encouraging a diet that shows significant results in treating illnesses, Dr. Campbell makes a strong case for me to make the switch.
After have becoming Plant Based from a listening to doctors like this Man, I am starting to become concerned about the health of My Parents. As a Christian, I have been raised to believe that God put animals on this planet for us to slaughter and eat, but I believe that is a load of BS that my parents pull up at the dinner table to justify their habits. My mom is on multiple medications and my father is Pre-Diabetic. Whenever I talk to them with such confidence about being able to completely restore their health on a plant based diet, they look and basically laugh at me like I am crazy, but it is not my wish to see them get worse or possibly suffer serious health issues because of their uneducated mind- sets. I'd really like it if someone who is older, could offer advice on how I can help my parents transition to this diet in a compassionate and informative fashion. I love them to death, I want to see them thrive.
You are what you eat. Animals today are NOT the animals of even 50 years ago. God did not creat Gowth Hormones pesticides, OR force grass eaters like cows to eat man made feed with ground up animal parts in it. No wonder too many are all on tons of meds! Have they watched Forks Over Knives or any WFPB videos? Many get the point when they see them!
As a super, hardcore follower of Jesus, I, too, came across this argument about God putting animals on the planet for us to eat (and the whole Leviticus chapter...). But what I always come back with is: before the Fall, there was no death (including animals!) so God never INTENDED us to eat meat. In fact, He said, "I have given you every seed bearing plant..." and never said, "and animals to eat". It was only AFTER the fall, when Adam brought death upon us all (including animals) that we turned to animal slaughter and eating dead flesh. Food for thought. :-)
Remind them of the diet Daniel in the Bible had. Also, food production was a lot different several hundred years ago than it is today. I am a devout Christian as well, and I am totally sold on the WFPB diet. Love it. Sometimes it can be challenging to help out parents. I understand that totally. Just offer your love and grace. I also would suggest offering to come over and spend the day cooking for them and make some wfpb meals.
Here's my critic. I love him by the way his work and the research of others convinced me to go vegan. 80-10-10 doesn't let you eat other filling nuttiest dense foods. Nuts, seeds, beans, fatty fruits like avocados, etcetera can all be part of a healthy diet. Obviously you don't eat a cup of nuts like you would oats. But I put a TB in my oats every morning with 2 prices of fruit, cocoa, vanilla, and a TB of chia seeds. These fatty foods keep you filling full and have lots of nutrients you can't get from food that are mostly carbs. My macros tend to be 60% carbs, 30% fat, and 10% protein. I haven't found any long term 80-10-10 diet studies and my diet works best for me. From what I've learned through reading studies and long as you're eating whole plant food and not too many calories you're fine.
I just watched other TEDx presentation by Dr. Sarah Hallberg, and she says basically the opposite of what he says about fats, and her patients are being cured of diabetes and other diseases. Go figure!
Putting that aside, I would like to throw up in the air, one question, or more, for those who say that we should not eat animals or what comes from them. And I am surprised that I have not heard or read this question, or argument, that I think totally debunks all theories about vegetable diet being the right one. Here is one of the questions: what would happen to all of the animals population on the Planet, and consequently to us, if we stopped sacrificing them on behalf of our survival? To me, the answer is very clear: they would become the hunters and WE the hunted. It could very well be the end of the species (OUR). We all now that WE have exterminated several species from the face of the earth but, unlike animals, we think and, sometimes we have common sense and stop doing absurd things. I challenge anyone who can prove that animals will stop and think, before eating us all, if we don't kill them in self defense, to protect our lives... and once dead, what better thing to do, other than eating them to sustain our body? I don't see any other solution, because with over 6 billion of us in the planet we are having hard time feeding everybody, can you imagine if eliminate animals from our diet?
I do believe, however, that cow's milk can do more harm than good. And there may be some other animal parts or products that could do the same, but, completely eliminating animals from our diet is insane.
+Joao Coelho The two diets (low-fat vegan vs. LCHF) don't seem to be complete opposites -- they both agree that processed foods are a major contributor to people's poor health, and that fresh vegetables are a great addition for nutrients. Where they differ is about the value of meat, dairy and fat in general.
It's not inconceivable that two (or more) drastically different approaches could show great benefits in different ways -- reducing insulin resistance through fat elimination, or reducing insulin rises through carbohydrate restriction -- the problem of diabetes and obesity primarily lie with problems related to the hormone insulin.
Others like fasting, or caloric restriction, or greatly raising the amount of exercise may also show benefits over a number of months or a year. What we don't have is long-term data about these specific diets -- whether people got healthier and stayed healthier, and whether people were able to sustain these types of diets. Some of these health guru diet scientists have completely changed their ways of thinking -- from low-fat to embracing fat, or from eating meat to going vegan. Whether meat protein, or excessive protein feeds cancer is up for debate -- some say glucose feeds cancer, and restricting glucose levels in the blood starves the cancer cells of the ability to grow. Others say exercise creates processes that shrinks cancers. All of these theories could be true, at least in part.
Dr. Campbell is entitled to his opinion, and so is Sarah Hallberg.
+Joao Coelho haha I am rolling over here. Small brain I have. Your probably right. I guess I belong on the short bus with you then. You should practice reading your sentences because I don't even think you understand your own question. How about you ask yourself this question : If we continue to have children and no one opens up a slaughter house for humans. What would happen then? By the way. How about you record yourself hunting with your bare teeth and hands and tell me how that goes for you since we are "meant to eat meat" or as most say "our ancestors before us have been doing it for thousands of years and blah blah blah. Stop allowing others to think for you and do your own research. We are the only species that consumes another species milk. If that's not weird than I don't know what is. Oh I do Walking down the street and seeing a Cow eat a Cat. SMH and I have the small brain.
+Joao Coelho But we DO NOT sacrifice ALL the animals on the planet for our survival. Are we sacrificing giraffes, hippos, elephants, antelopes, skunks, raccoons, eagles, seagulls, dogs, tigers, etc? No, we sacrifice a HANDFUL of species after we BREED those animals. We are artificially creating life in order to create a food supply. If we stopped breeding those animals, they would not exist to possibly rise up against us. But I would enjoy watching such a fictional movie...kind of like the animated one where wildebeest tried to rise up against lions so they would no longer be prey. That movie was called THE WILD, I believe--Keifer Sutherland was one of the voice actors.
+Joao Coelho You may be surprised that you have never heard your question before, but I have heard it one too many times ever since becoming vegan. I ask you to simply look back in history, when humans were not mass producing animals for food. What happened then? Also, look at places like Africa, where millions of animals live and die each year. There is a balance to the ecosystem. The 65 billion animals raised for slaughter every year would not be born if they were not being produced for meat. So no need to fear cows would suddenly become carnivores. But your question proves something quite fundamental--we are NOT carnivores nor even ominvores, because those animals do not fear prey animals the way we do. I see people freak out when a raccoon crosses their path, or if they get too close to a beaver, or swim near a fish in a lake. And good luck trying to get some people to even approach a tame horse. We are not the grand hunters we think we are. Humans are delusional.
+Vanessa Voxx Yeah, you can't exactly poison humans and see how fast cancer grows and reverses Lol. But there are hundreds of studies, Dr. Michael Greger, Dr. Neil Barnard, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyen, there are many more!
Read the Book People! See the facts and move on. NO one is making you change your.. diet, he is trying to help you get and maintain health. I do not understand why junk food addicts are so closed minded. He is a good person trying to help America! If you do not want to be helped, move on. Allow those that are sick and in need of help, get it.
There is only ONE reason to be a vegan - you don't want to use animals for food. Fine, no problem.
But once you start claiming that eating an egg from a free-range chicken once a month, or a piece of fish once a month, or putting milk in your coffee, or having a slice of cheese once a month, is going to kill you, then you are just a nut job loony.
Hello, i think you're right, eating minimal amounts of animal products isn't going to kill anyone. But, however, who, in the context of this Ted Talk, suggested that having an egg once a month is going to kill you? Prof Campbell didn;t say that, and as i know from his books, he clearly states somewhere exactly this: that if you eat extremely small amounts of animal protein there is no problem. I think you didn;t listen carefully to the talk-he gives precise numbers, he talks about 20% animal protein. Well, an egg a month doesn't account to 20% animal protein. You just are trying to discredit him but your approach is ridiculous. The problem with animal protein is that we eat it in EXCESS. Of course an egg a month wouldn't be a problem, but who eats only an egg a month if he eats eggs? Or only a piece of meat A MONTH? Or drinks only a glass of milk a month? I think very few people do that, if they exist, i don;t know anyone. The problem is if you eat an egg, or maybe a couple of eggs+lots of milk+lots of meat DAILY for DECADES...only in this case science HAS PROVED that your risk of chronic or deadly disease increases very much. Do you have solid arguments that this shouldn;t be the case? Do you hionestly think that simply coming with this "an egg a month" theory counts of an argument to that? Well in this case you should think more about who is the "nut job loony", no offense, but it is ridiculous.
When I changed to plant-baeed, 80-10-10, I recovered from a disease not listed by Dr. Campbell, that is, the disease of multi-joint (2 knees, 2 hips, confirmed by x-ray) osteoarhtritis. I was barely able to walk and needed all those joints replaced. Without any joint replacements, now I have no pain on ambulation and walk most of the day with no ill effects--this change started from reading Dr. Campbell's first book, The China Study! I idolize the man and feel a great deal of sadness about all the pain I endured all the years of omst of my life.
Amazing..all the critics here. Look at our country people. I am 47 and can tell you that obesity is a f'in epidemic. Hmmm, what could it be? Heart attack is up, Cancer is up...Hmmm, I wonder. I guess it was something in the water huh? Bunch of dumbasses who don't want to recognize truth when they see it. A billion people on the Pacific rim cannot be wrong.
COSTING MILLIONS OF $...THIS CON MAN SPENDS 27 YEARS OVER FEEDING COWS THERE OWN MILK THEN BLAMES CASIEN FOR CAUSING LIVER CANCER IN THE COWS AND STATES IT HAS TO BE CASIEN BECAUSE AFTER 12 YRS WE TRIED SOY AND WHEAT PROTEIN AND THAT DIDN’T CAUSE IT SO IT MUST BE THE CASIEN… HOW STUPID IS THAT STATEMENT. AND THERE ARE PEOPLE BELOW PRAISING THIS GUY ?????????????????????????
+Eric K Your an idiot Bill Clinton use the Vegan diet to repair his health issues now that he is healthy he is going back to the junk foods he loves burgers & fries because he knows when his heart disease returns he can go back on a vegan diet and repair it again.... Mark Hyman says that if you eat meat it should be a very small amount from his website below, so even he says animal products should be less consumed then fruit and veggies.... People are fat because they have no idea how to eat correctly, and the protein myth well that has been blown out of the water 10 years ago do your research properly and don't just pick what you like....
Eat meat or animal products as a condiment, not a main course. Read The Third Plate by Dan Barber to understand how shifts in our eating habits could save the environment and ourselves. Vegetables should take center stage and meat should be a side dish.
+Eric K I think you are wrong about Bill Clinton he was nearly dead from eating animal products and change his diet to a real plant based diet and reversed his heart disease... Learn to listen or read before making comments that make you look like an idiot...
of course there is fat vegans they don't eat properly, junk food is not real food..... Why would I want to eat a hens period only sickos like you eat the menstrual cycle from another animal.....
+George LFC Eat one egg from a small farm with free-range chickens. I dare you. And there are plenty of unhealthy vegans, ranging from the obese, to Bill Clinton, who looked like he had one foot in the grave.
+Eric K I do its you meat eaters that have the BS health claims.... the quicker you understand this the healthier you will be..... I am sorry if I come across a bit angry but you have to see it from my point of view too.... animals are suffering unimaginable pain when they don't have to, they can not talk for themselves so its up to us to give them a voice we are suppose to be the intelligent species we are suppose to be the passionate benign being and yet we allow our stomachs and greed to rule over us....
+Matthew Curran I said proteins are dissolved into amino acids and not amino acids are disolved in the body. amino acids are the legos and proteins the stuff you build frim the legos. makes sense to dissolve the stuff someone else build to be able to build what you want. doesn't make sense to destroy the legos though.
+Tanner Herzman calf liver? creepy person you're. You were brainwashed into thinking you're a lion huh? you're not. You're a monkey and monkeys eat plants! And even lions don't eat as much "CREEPY" as you seem to eat. Go die of cancer. And the sooner the better.
+Tanner Herzman Something you might not be aware of: B12 is not "from meat". It actually is from the bacteria that grows in soil and in your gut, and in your poo. Animals who are allowed to graze will get it from eating bits of soil while they graze (and animals also often ingest bits of poo too). People also use to be able to get it from eating vegetables because there was bits of soil on them. However, since agriculture started to using herbicides and pesticides to grow our vegetables, this did 2 things: it kills the bacteria in the soil, and it required us to peel and wash our produce to reduce the herbicides/pesticide residue we injest. So now, with modern agriculture, we are no longer getting our B12 from our produce. A very small percentage of food-animals are allowed to graze. Most never see the light of day, and are fed a prescribed diet of corn/soy and yes vitamins such as B12. So you can eat the food that takes the B12 supplements. Or you can skip the middle-animal and just take the supplements.
"After 50 years of nutritional biochemical research, Campbell views casein as one of the most relevant chemical carcinogens ever identified. He’s critical of the Komen Foundation for ignoring the research and expanding its marketing income by putting pink ribbons on yogurt containers.”
+golfinguna Sadly you will continue to be a part of the horror for cows and probably get all kinds of chronic diseases, one possibly being clogged arteries with no blood flow to your heart or brain. Your poor health will be a burden to others even people that don't know you because of your cost to the health care system, but you are too selfish to get this. Very selfish indeed. The first thing a cardiologist tells patients with heart disease is to cut out high-fat foods and exercise, but you go right ahead and be in denial. I hope if you are lucky enough to survive a chronic disease in time to change that you remember your hateful attitude here. And start to get the connection to what you are doing to your health, the planet, and the innocent animals that did nothing to deserve this and your part in the horror. Talk about karma.
Hmmm, the genius that drinks cow's milk meant for a baby cow is calling me dumb. You do know a giraffe's milk is meant for a baby giraffe right? As well as a dog's milk is meant for a puppy, cat's milk for a kitten, etc. This isn't over your head, is it? All babies deserve that milk from their mother. You are an adult correct? You do not need milk now you are no longer an infant and in case you didn't know milk is a growth food loaded with hormones meant for that baby of that species to grow and you have no right to steal milk from a mother cow that was meant for her baby which they had to remove and or kill so you could consume their milk.
Go ahead and compare yourself to a lion please, while you are at it tell me how you hunted down that gazelle with your bare hands and tore apart his flesh with your teeth and ate his intestines, eyes, and brains as well. Then tell me how you digested that animal in your long intestines and compare it to a lion's intestinal tract. Biologically there is no way you can compare yourself to a meat-eating species and you know this. I have heard it all but the real issues are the innocent victims (humans and animals), our planet, and global warming.
I would say you have a right to "choose but I can't. How it affects others is a very serious issue, you can "choose" to have heart disease, diabetes, cancer, obesity, and mental issues all day from the hormones you ingest that you never needed, I do not wish this on anyone but you can choose that but how it affects others is criminal. One day it will be illegal and it will be looked back as shameful as many things were in the past like slavery or killing any being. I don't mean to be intentionally harsh here but it upsets me because your choices aka addictions are comparable to a drunk driver that kills someone in a car accident, walks away, still sick and addicted but still hurting others.
This is a great information. Very good illustrated. It is time to understand that plant based food is the solution! Solution for health, for Mother Earth, and for all people to get food, not only the rich ones.
Thanks for doing this work! Just tell this is not enough, but now here is evidence, lots of research and science!!
Hopefully will this help people to abandon LCHF, low carb, high fat diets!
if you say plant-based, what would you think of my diet. For about six years, I've been living entirely on fluid milk products, skim milk and cream. Many's the day when I've drunk two gallons of skim milk. I find that my weight stays very healthy on this diet and I feel good because milk is very easy to digest and use.
Many cultures around the world have used natural Herbs and foods not only to maintain health, but also cure illnesses. Chinese medicine is one example. Western medicine was born out of battle field needs, combined with scientific thought. Now we finally see Western medicine starting to look into food and nutrition to cure illnesses.
The first book about nutrition that I read was The China Study. I became vegan while reading it. As a guy I would not have stopped eating meat even if forced, but the facts in the book were too compelling.
If you meant debunked by the likes of Denise Minger, then she was way off the mark - she isn't a scientist (and it showed, on close inspection of her analysis). Campbell has also never ever called himself "vegan". The works of clinician-researchers Walter Kempner, Neal Barnard, Dean Ornish, Caldwell Esselstyn, John McDougall etc. and many others now have done incredible, long standing refusal of forms of chronic lifestyle disease with plant based means.
I don't know if you had a bad experience then on plant eating - I'm sorry if you did. You said ex-vegetarian, and "vegetarian" can have big health problems, if that might mean dairy, eggs, oils etc. You might have been vulnerable to some bad advice in the area, and again I'm sorry if that happened.
If you run up against some resistance while making this dietary change, John, just have the naysayers read pages 104 thru 107, of, "The China Study".
Another good resource for convincing people of the value of this dietary change, is Dr. Esselstyn's extended interview from the "Vegsourrce" documentary, "Processed People".
my diet has been in the past (and now) mostly wholefood vegan food. Im overweight and feel okay. Not great. I started experimenting adding more protein with eggs chiken beef. Eggs made me feel horrible. The rest was fine. Im still fat. Now im wondering If I really should give paleo a try. Its not like what Im doing is working. Right now im doing the harvard pyramid pretty much. I can't portion control. Cravings are very strong. Rice, beans, protein with sauteed spinach =not filling. I eat at least 2-3 plates of that to feel at ease somewhat. I think rice, pasta, bread an beans are problematic foods for me. They dont satiate BEFORE I go over calorie limits. I feel quite lost really. And upset.
hi @tedoymisojos...don't know if you will see this comment after 3 years. you may want to chek if you're pre-diabetic or already diabetic as i know that uncontrolled insulin drives up cravings and you will be unable to control it. if you know what's going on, then you can give a vegan/wholefood, plant-based diet a try and be smarter and more strategic about it. Dr. Greger's nutritionfacts youtube channel will be your friend, as well as the resources written by Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. McDougall and plenty of others.
Thought of reaching out to you as I was prediabetic and came from a family of diabetics and we do love our food. the mood swings were also terrible...like you'd ba "hangry" all the time. but since i went vegan, not anymore...and i'm no longer prediabetic.
You need to eat much more! So many people start eating a plant-based diet and fail. They say "oh i tried it but it didn't work for me", and it's because they don't eat anywhere near enough of the right foods. Due to fibre and water, there's much more volume to plant food than dead animals, so you need to eat a lot more to get the same amount of calories (you probably know that already, apologies if you do).
The reason you're not full is because you aren't eating enough calories. DO NOT RESTRICT CALORIES. Stick to 80-10-10 ratios and eat as much as you want. most of your calories are coming from carbs so any excess will not turn into fat, but will contribute to a better metabolism, which is key to burning fat/loosing weight. This is called dietary thermogenesis, please look it up!
People need to get out of the mentality that restricting calories leads to weight loss. This is true, but it isn't sustainable long term, people end up binging on fatty foods eventually because they need the calories. A HEALTHY METABOLISM IS KEY TO LOSING WEIGHT IN A HEALTHY AND SUSTAINABLE WAY.
Please try this before giving up and doing the paleo thing, which is not healthy long term (look at the long term paleo eaters and then compare them with whole food plant-based diet advocates). Aim for at least 2500 calories per day from whole plant foods, aim for more if you're active (high calorie fruits like dates and bananas may help). It helps to keep watching videos and reading material by T.Colin Campbel, John McDougall, Neil Barnard etc and subscribe to their facebook pages to stay on the right track, otherwise it can be easy to fall back into the bad habits of an unhealthy society.
"in 30 years" ... if the energy crisis and the climate crisis and the financial crisis is not solved, then there is no health crisis in "in 30 years" ... simply because there ain't enough people left to have a health crisis ... however I would suggest to fix the health crisis first, because it's the most easy to fix (just up your carbs at least to 80% and down your fats and protein to max 20%) and then people are strong enough to fix the other crisis-es
Feldenkrais with Alfons the great thing is that eating vegan whole foods plant-based also helps significantly with the climate crisis, and energy crisis (eating lower on the food chain is FAR more efficient for most foods). So one behaviour change helps with all of these things. So simple, yet so powerful!
Isolated, denatured casein protein was used. Of course it was! It's the easiest way to show that animal protein causes cancer if you leave out the antagonistically active (cancer-preventing) whey-part of milk.
Every scientist can set up an experiment to back up a hypothesis, however a hypothesis can only be proven to be right if it can't be proven wrong by faithful science.
I've been eating an 80/10/10 Raw til 4 Vegan diet for 3 weeks & I feel so good I can't imagine going back. My friends & family keep asking "Don't you miss meat & cheese & eggs?" & "well, you can cheat a couple times a week, right?" ....and I can honestly say NOPE. I don't miss feeling physically sluggish & mentally foggy. My body looks tighter & leaner, my house is cleaner & more organized, I'm excited to work out, I don't crave alcohol at all, & I'm satiated at night when I go to sleep. I feel like I've been given my life back.
this is awesome! I'm experiencing the same after switching to a whole foods plant based 4 months ago. I was addicted to cheese and didn't think I'd be able to pull this off. Well, cheese does not even cross my mind anymore and I don't remember ever feeling this great, not even as a child! I can't think of one reason why I would go back to my old ways. Oh, and side effect of my new absolutely amazing food? My cholesterol went from 245 to 184. Triglycerides from 165 to 95. :-)
So very profound that in a nation that spends our taxes under the pretense of protecting us, the food system, compilation of dietary guidelines, and Farm Bill expenditures, do nothing of the sort. A nation based on consuming damaging products for sheer GDP, is a nation that ultimately consumes itself to death. A fascinating all be it eerie juxtaposition that our killing of animals in agony and pain, as every single slaughtered animal experiences, ends up our own misery and pain.. The media claiming other nations do not uphold journalistic freedom, never allow these issues over the airways. We are victims of our own corporate media screening. USDA should NOT be allowed to both promote animal ag while setting dietary guidelines. That IS why health has been compromised.
hey freelee:) i love your vids!!
i wonder if you could help me understand something that T.collin campell says about meat and plantfood: (Resolving the Health Care Crisis: T. Colin Campbel at TEDxEast-at 4:20). he say that animal food dont make vitamins? is this true? love from J:)
Oh snap! T. Colin Campbell just quoted the 801010 Diet, a book by Doug Graham. I'm gonna have to pick that back up and finish it... ok so he didn't QUOTE it, but I am surprised to see him use that terminology of that caloronutrient ratio. Confirms my suspicions, time to go full vegan.
Congratulations, your an educated idiot. Tell him what he wins, Johnny.

A clear conscience is usually the sign of a bad memory.
In 1975, I switched to the Paleo Diet, "to get bigger & stronger"; ten months ago, at age 50, I almost died from Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure, Kidney Stones, Type II Diabetes, Gout and Prostate Issues. I switched to VEGAN (no oil, no salt,) and have completely reversed or cured ALL of the above Diseases and Issues.

Why you're repeating, that evolution never stop, I know this all along.
Grains have phytochemicals, which reduce absorption of minerals, and lectins, which can cause damage to intestine. Question does species is fully adapted to certain food is irrelevant, because species can't fully adapt. Almost all people react to gluten, but in different degree.
I really think the whole idea that "We never evolved to eat X, therefore Y" is totally pointless today. We have modern health science to show the effects grains have on the body. Sure, some people react poorly to gluten, but the track record for these foods are quite strong. Of course, most of ones diet should not be grains, you need variety.
Again, Evolution and adaptation never grinded to a halt. The benefits we gain from starchs and grains may not have benefited our ancestors. Grains in my opinion are really overblown by some, they are just the fused fruit/seed of a grass plant, nothing else really. Do you really think we as a species really have to adapt to every single food we eat? How would that even be possible for a generalist species such as our selves.
