Amazon Worker Told to Take Ibuprofen After Breaking Foot

Оценок: 358 | Просмотров: 3074
Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon, says he is "very proud" of the working conditions at Amazon. Maybe he should listen to the story of this former Amazon worker who, after breaking her foot on the job, was told to take ibuprofen and finish her shift or go home with unpaid time.

I'm so glad I deleted my Amazon account. I use to have it for everything (books, wares, etc), but after hearing all the horror stories from Amazon, and what they do to their workers, I just didn't feel comfortable supporting a business with unethical/immoral practices. There are cut throat businesses, and then there's Amazon.
StealieSteve (2 дня назад)
Not ONE Amazon warehouse in the USA is union. This is the problem. Bezos is a predatory capitalist and makes 28 grand every 10 seconds. That is the average warehouse workers yearly take home as a Amazon warehouse employee. Bezos is the enemy.

All corporations and even many smaller businesses only see the financial impact of the decisions they make. I used to work for BP in Australia and called in sick about 2 hrs prior to shift(had woken up sick but wasn't when I went to bed prior) and even after telling the manager that I had thrown up and had diarrhoea , he still begged me to come in. My shift would have me be the only one on site for half the shift (night) and the only one handling our hot food and making coffees. Now I would much prefer that staff stay home and not handle my food when sick like that....I did not go to work, i told him it would be illegal for me to do so and he reluctantly relented. His main issue was that he had no spare staff to cover my shift as head office don't allow enough wage budget and as manager he had to come in and do it for no extra pay as he is on salary. If a business is not profitable without treating staff like this then close it, most likely is that they don't consider $4 billion profit enough.
Primalxbeast (3 дня назад)
That's just scary that they tell people not to call 911 because minutes can be the difference between life and death, but they were going to let her leave without consequence and she was whining about not getting paid for the rest of the day? I've had plenty of jobs where you weren't allowed to take time off even without pay regardless of how sick you were. She could apply for workman's comp or something latter after she had proof of the injury but most hourly jobs aren't going to pay you for the entire day just for showing up.

That's either not a real nurse or someone who's so terrible at her job that she's not even interested in CYA for the company. I'm a paramedic. Nurses laugh at our level of education most of the time. What nurse wouldn't know to warn someone about the possibility of an allergic reaction to Ibuprofen?

They also BREAK and don't complain about it. My daughter's dad DIED on Sep-11 for this crap while we watched it f'n happen and he was never the GREED monster the killers were allegedly so hacked off at. And I"m really sick of everyone doing my job. You're not a paramedic or doctor and can't give medical advice just bc you looked it up online. A person could have an allergic reaction to Ibuprofen if you don't know to ask if they're allergic to related OTC medications; like aspirin and other NSAIDs. They could've had their asses sued for millions of dollars if the bone had severed a vessel or nerve. Just bc it's rare doesn't mean it's nonexistent.

So I'm kinda forced to work at Amazon since there aren't any other jobs nearby that pay 16 an hour that I can walk to, but what I really want to do is help the people I work with to fuck over Amazon. Thing is anytime there is union talk someone gets "let go".
Karin Maaka (3 дня назад)
I have a story too: woman at my amazon warehouse had a pick cart fall on top of her as she was walking up the stairs and she could no longer work. Amazon refused to give her worker's comp and she fought it, but I am pretty sure she did not win

I agree with the underlining message of the video but in this case, in particular, is walking a fine line IMO. She says at 1:50 " I've never had such a negative influence on my own health until I worked there." She is overweight. Being overweight causes a litany of problems, having more weight on your feet can increase the risk of breaking a bone. I'm not trying to hate of the women, i myself am about 40 pounds overweight but i acknowledge that that is my fault. Is Amazon at fault for the poor working conditions? Yes. Does the sole responsibility lie on Amazon for her breaking her foot while working? I'm unsure. I empathize with this women and wish the best for her. I just think we should have chosen a better story to make a video about.

Working for amazon probably sucks but any job on your feet on cement now days sucks more then in the 70s. Heres the problem. Our foot ware sucks big time now. You could buy. Your Niki memory foam crap shoes for 300 bucks all you want but your getting ripped off. Can we fix the real problems. We have to work some of us have to work like this and it hurts. www.healthline.com/health/plantar-fasciitis

I had a similar experience working as a stocker at Walmart. I stretched out the ligaments on the top of my foot. I was interrogated first. Then finally taken to a walk in. They didn’t drop me off at the door. They dropped me off as far from the door as possible. They lady that carried me left before I could walk inside. Where I was put in a wheel chair and put in a cast. They let me go for not working in a cast.

Just a reminder, there's an international strike of Amazon on the 10th. Dont make any transactions with Amazon or their subsidiaries like Whole Foods or Zappos on that day if you can.

I have worked on my feet all my life the one time i didn't i got big and fat. I worked for a place that never gives raises. Standing in one place from 8 to 12 hours a day twisting and bending till you walk bent over from your lower back has been ground to crap. Working in steel was as bad you get paid more but planters seem to effect all who work on hard surfaces. Our shose have no arch support making more problems. In the old days we had arch support in our shose but now military take you if your flat footed that was left out in foot ware. Its the corpret world we live in we pay more get less. And its really screwing with our health. Happy cow day.

Walking 12 to 15 miles is a lot, but also good exercise, no? Sounds like her injury went misdiagnosed (understandably so due to the circumstances) and she's trying to leverage fame from it. It's hard to understand how someone breaks a bone from just walking.
Karin Maaka (3 дня назад)
12 to 15 miles on CONCRETE is awful for you. It adds too much stress to your feet and you need really, really good shoes to insulate yourself from the shock. If you are just standing it's not as bad, I work at Amazon and I mainly stand. However if you are a picker, which means lots of walking and never really stopping at all except for a short 30 min break in the day. This will fuck up your feet, it's not the same as walking on the ground, where the soil/grass absorbs the shock. I am not overweight and I'm in good shape and they had me pick for 1 month straight during the holiday season (60 hours a week nonstop walking). I was literally limping the last week or so, barely able to walk. I'm in my fucking 20s and LIMPING. This kind of work is hard even for a normal, young, fit person to do. This woman looks overweight so she is adding even more stress to her feet and can actually get broken bones from it, I totally believe it.

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the Corporate states of America, and to the Republicans for which it stands, one nation under debt, easily divisible, with freedom and justice for Oil.
I want to not to order from Amazon but I also don't like spreading my credit card info everywhere. Amazon is a one stop shop for many things you can't find elsewhere. And other sites like it probably aren't any better concerning employees.

I have to buy expensive converse shoes and replace them every 6 months just to deal with walking on concrete that much. I just trashed really nice converse that I spent $80 on, because they were completely worn out. God help you if you are poor and can't afford decent shoes, people get fucked up feet at my job because they can't afford nikes or converse every few months. Amazon gives you a discount on shoes but it's barely anything.

I just want to tell ppl - DO NOT WORK FOR CORPORATIONS. Learn a trade/skill if you don't have one and work for yourself. Also, stop buying their crap whenever possible. By even working for them, you are condoning their practices - here and overseas where they profit off of sweatshops, child labor and slavery. We all still have spending power.. don't let the "benefits" suck you in. I worked a job for 20 yrs and during the recession - all my benefits were taken away... corporations only give you a FALSE sense of security. Not to mention, BP and SHELL are prepping for 5 deg C increase by 2050 (they know what I know as a geologist). Don't waste what time you have left, do something you LOVE. Take the leap. Peace!

I wasn't at all shocked to find out it is a woman this happened to. This is very common for people to doubt women's injuries/pain etc and assume they are psychosomatic (remnants of archaic ideas about hysteria). Ie - I went to the ER with a busted collar bone and saw my male gym teacher there for a broken pinky toe. Guess who they assumed was more legitimately hurt? They kept telling me at the ER that I probably just bruised it. Nope, it was a clean break. I went to the doctors for gallbladder pain and the doc told me it was probably just heartburn. I ended up at the ER that night. I had tendonitis from work and my boss didn't believe me, even with the workman's comp claim and letters explaining I must rest my wrist. We still live in a very sexist society.

Karin Maaka that really sucks! I could never work at a place like that. I was subcontracting for two years for a corporate trumpet and that was miserable (the prick started acting like I owed him my soul for $400 of work a month on average). Was real liberating to stop returning his calls. Plus his business went under after, haha! That's what he gets for trying to act like he owns ppl. I hope you can carve out a new path for yourself. Corporatists are our enemies. Amazon will definitely get no business from me anymore!

To top it off, Bezos does business with the CIA and Washington Post posts propaganda helpful to their agenda. CIA has been funneling millions or billions into Syria terrorists and millions into Venezuelan right-wingers trying to destabilize it and create a coup.
Gen. Snoball (4 дня назад)
The WP actually slammed Bezos for his business practices. He has no control over the editorial staff. Having staff beholden to a corporate billionaire would discredit their unbiased and nonpartisan stance immediately. Although right-wingers would disagree with me wholeheartedly, the WP tries to stay neutral in all matters.
