Why America is Only a Two Party System in 4 Minutes

Оценок: 175 | Просмотров: 9407
America is often referred to the land of freedom or of democracy. Is that really the case though? If it were, why do only two political parties with any influence exist? And why has that been the case for nearly the entire history of the U.S.? Watch and find out! If you enjoyed the video please give it a thumbs up and subscribe. There are literally dozens of variations on proportional representation in active use, and most every developed country in the world uses some form of PR in national and/or regional elections. Even some US municipalities use PR. The winner-take-all system is the abnormal one.

Looks like the confederate is doing a coup d'etat. The gilded parties of old was reckless for putting trump in office, it opened doors for any unqualified candidates to get a job in the government. Now is the time for a 3rd party ''The Millennial party" or "Generation X" If people could put together Anonymous they could put together a real political party for real issues that matter. The young people today have the knowledge & time to fix the future for a new golden age.

Lol two party system is the best thing for people who want a stable government. One party will always try to undermined the other, which causes the other party to be on its best behavior. That's why you will never see fascism, or any form of extremism in the US, because the opponent will fight to keep the status quo and will make sure to make everyone know to vote you out come November.

So basically, as you mention at 2:47, a 2-party system is inevitable because people aren't willing to risk letting someone they hate (or at least disagree with by a great margin) get into office. Sounds like pretty simple math. Which would you rather? Vote for the guy you agree with 100%, but who has a 10% shot at winning? Or the guy you only agree with maybe 50%, but he has a 60% shot at winning?

In this two party system, if you are not voting "FOR" a candidate, then you they get you to vote against the 'other' candidate. This is choosing the lesser of two evils. Also, don't throw your vote away by voting a third party or independent candidate (your candidate that 10% shot at winning). What if the guy you only agree with only 50% wins, or you going to protest the guy 50% of the time too? How are going vote for a guy then turn over appose him half the time? Who side are you really on? USA is the most diverse democracy in world, but with only two major parties. You don't think something is wrong with picture? The two parties are getting into bitter disputes over routine government procedures. They shut down the government over an operating budget. The Supreme Court nomination have become everything but routine. Need I say more...

What do you say to people who agree with both major party nominees equally? A lot of people are in this category. There are other countries with winner-take-all elections like the US that, unlike the US, actually have more than two parties represented. Those countries’ voters actually take the risk, voting for other parties’ candidates, just to get some alternative representation, albeit less than they’d get in a proportional system. American voters most of the time say they want better representation, but then they chicken out at the last moment, and vote to enable the system they claim they want to change.

DJFlare84 we have an electoral college system. Your individual vote does not matter when 300mil+ vote so....... Yeah voting for the guy who has a 10% chance of winning is just the same as pissing in a can.... When people are diviided as we are its comes down to just what it is a waste of time..... So lomg as the electoral college exist if you are the only guy on your block pissing in a can while everyone else is pissing in a toilet yup thats that

Democracy is mob rule and if we really lived in a republic, we wouldn't have a federal level at all.
Jared Wales (2 месяца назад)
That made no sense whatsoever. Did you flunk poli-sci? It sounds like you did.

We really need a three party system. I just couldn't get myself to vote for either Trump or Hilary so I voted for a third party candidate. People have told me that I threw away my vote but for me that was a protest vote and at least I voted. Like my Grandpa used to say if you don't vote then you have nothing to complain about

Natasha Romanof what anout the people who cant vote like Criminals ?
lizardon99 (7 месяцев назад)
Natasha Romanof you shouldnt have a three party system but a proportional system instead.

Over the years I've noticed that no matter the electoral system - the US electoral college, the Westminster Parliamentarian system (like the UK and Canada have) , or straight up Proportional Representation - there seems to be more wailing and gnashing of teeth when a conservative party wins. Up here in Canada, when the Conservative Party got into power, and retained power there were shouts of needing to change the system. but when the Liberals got in in 2015, the attitude was more of "It's okay man, we're good."

I'd say it's because the left supposedly represents progression, while the right (conservative) represents regression. This means that the left can say that the right wants to bring back things from the past, and will use examples such as slavery and genocide, while the right has no historical precedent for why the left is bad, so has to rely on the slippery slope fallacy. So even though both are misrepresenting the other, the left has the more believable "truth". (Plus, no-one wants to look back, because clearly we're smarter than our ancestors....) Honestly though, I think both sides lead to regression, based on the current evidence at least, and the centre is where progress actually happens, because it sees no reason to be hasty about making a decision on whether or not to do something, but instead seeks to run some tests and once it has enough data, it'll make its decision.

That's just because the majority of people are more left-leaning anyways. Not a result of the system.
Dave Greenlaw (1 год назад)
And BTW, I'm not trying to imply that this is what you're doing. Far from it. Besides, I've felt that for far too long now you guys have been in serious need of a genuinely legitimate third-party that can win electoral votes. Personally, I think that could work better if all the other states - or at least those with at least 4 electoral votes - went with the Congressional District method, like Maine and Nebraska use. Oh, and I did find somewhere online that showed how the candidates won by congressional district. Sorry to disappoint liberals, but Donald Trump would have still won...290 to 248.

We're not a democracy, we're a Republic.

Republic and democracy are two different answers to two different questions. We’re both. Deal with it, or move to one of the many authoritarian republics in the world.

voting women = welfare. Welfare = commie parasites on the rise. Females are natural socialists and Universal Suffrage has been beginning of decadence.

I was curious about it so I did a bit of research and figured I should make an educational video so others can learn about it too.
