Оценок: 33904 | Просмотров: 1635349
You don't have to practice perfect table manners at home, but you should have a basic grasp on dining etiquette so you know how to handle yourself at a formal dinner without embarrassing yourself. While sometimes manners and etiquette seem like "rules for rules' sake," at their core, manners are just about being mindful and considerate of other people. In this video, you'll learn the basic "must-know" table manners so you can get through a formal dinner without incident. Interesting. In Spain, keeping your free hand on your lap or under the table is seen as rude and ill-mannered. You’re supposed to rest your free hand on top of the table in a relaxed position. My parents would always tell my off at home for not doing it. I didn’t know it was a Spanish thing!

Ideally, a person would behave as nicely at home as at a formal dinner away from home. It is a lovely way of showing respect and appreciation.

Not bad ... however, there are a few quite significant differences in the etiquette of non-Americans. For example, the 'American method' of cutlery use is not acceptable anywhere but in the US. In Australia for example, that would be considered very ill-mannered (solely unless you have a physical handicap and must eat that way). Further, at a truly formal dinner, it's highly unlikely that you'd serve corn on the cob (outside the US); but if one actually did, you MUST include corn-forks. Corn is NOT a 'finger food'.

Just a question. In case you are a right handed and you have to eat on the American or the Continental Style, you have to switch the fork for the left hand and take the knife on the right hand or you have to leave the fork in the right hand (like in the informal dinner or eating at home)? Just to know, of course. I now few things about table manners and it is good to learn and practice more often.

I think...Napkin goes on the chair when temporarily leaving the table so as not to put near food. Seems more hygienic. Dirty napkin back on a table doesn’t seem polite. Just an opinion. Thanks great video.

Is it embarrassing if you made some mistakes when you honestly don't know these table manners? I think the ones who laugh at someone who made mistakes should be ashamed of themseves... Just a thoight. But, nice tips, BTW..

I tried this fork and knife method on an Indian delicacy called Aloo Paratha which is seved hot with cube of butter on top and few sauces and chutneys. The moment I asked the waiter to bring fork and knife he was like - Man are u nuts? You wanna eat paratha with fork and knife. I said yes and then enlightend him with my skills.

Btw when I’m using the American style can I cut all my food into small pieces and then start eating with my dominant hand or...?
iStoleYourAvocado • (1 месяц назад)
I always eat using the American style because the continental style is too difficult for me because I’m right handed And btw I thought I was eating in a wrong way because the rest of my family eats using continental style

Keep your head level and bring the fork or spoon to your mouth. This is to keep eyes contact with your fellow diners. Don't reach down with your head to eat!

Should do vid on who orders 1st at the table. Also diners shouldnt look at the food suspiciously as if they might be poisoned. Yes it happened. Ask for extra ice, then spend 5 mins fishing it out of the drink into another glass using fingers & fork spilling it all over the table. Then proceed to pick out bits and pieces of vegetables/herbs out of the dish and making a production out of it. I never went out to eat with these people again. Ugh.
JulieAnkha N. (2 месяца назад)
I've seen people with the worst table manners. Parents don't teach their kids anymore. They look like they've never used a fork or knife before. They have table manners of a 3 year old, as an adult. Im not kidding. Its like a knife and fork are foreigner to them. One of the worst was a guy who ordered b4 everyone, then dove in like he hadn't eaten in weeks. Didn't care about other diners.

Is it always right to take tableware from your left hand side? In China, we have very different manners. Maybe you can do a video on Chinese table etiquette?

When cutting meat, only cut pulling toward yourself. "Seesawing" back and forth as shown will jiggle items on the table. it is also considerate not to close your plate or allow it to be removed until all diners are finished, so one person doesn't appear to be straggling behind. Good stuff!
